A tiny, mysterious, childlike character running around this big flashy building.

Seems too innocent for this particular world.

Pretty well received among the group who don't have any expectations for her.

Close to a famous overlord who rose up in the ranks.

She may be something special herself.

JJK 241 Thoughts

More Takaba and Kenjaku! I don’t know if Takaba’s possible death is a stepping stone (distraction) until others fight Kenjaku or if he’ll survive a while longer. I hate saying this because I very much hated his character in every scene he was in (sometimes you just hate a character idk), but now that he’s with someone where his god awful jokes can bounce off of, I’m kind of coming around to him 🥴 All the overpowered adult characters have been dropping like flies so I don’t have high hopes or anything

Apart from Takaba’s flashback, more about Kenjaku’s character too. Genuine insight that we’ve seen with them talking to Tengen or to Yuuji’s friend. I love seeing the strange people that they end up making a connection with (Tengen, Jin, Takaba), although it does make me want a Heian era flashback more and more,,,,

I’m absolutely biased because I find Kenjaku’s character interesting, but idk I’m having a good time reading these chapters, especially after how Tsumiki was handled and the highly technical shonen fight between Gojo and Sukuna. Maybe my standards are atrocious, but the chapters have all been entertaining since then

Did my weekly quick glance through the tags—not on tumblr—but I saw a lot of people say the panel below was because of Geto??? I’m genuinely curious as to why people think this because there’s zero reason for it to not be kenjaku’s past and/or just takaba’s technique. The only times it seemed Geto’s influence was shining through was when Gojo “woke” him up and that small scene at the end of Shibuya.

These panels are great though. It’s interesting to see how Kenjaku’s mind is potentially influenced by Takaba when Kenjaku has been a constant force when it comes to manipulation and influencing the mind (thinking of the Kamo clan leaders in particular here but really everyone). It’s continuing my nonstop surprise at how much chemistry they have as a comedic duo—although, much like Jin or Tengen, I can’t see this ending well for Takaba.

I hope Takaba gets to at least make Kenjaku laugh before they die! 😔 I felt a lot for his story which has been the case for most of the regular people turned modern sorcerers imo. Like with Higuruma or Hana, there’s a lot of heart to their backstories and motivations. It’s not like the past sorcerers don’t, but a lot of them are more focused on power and fighting. Other than Uro and Angel, I was never as interested in any in-depth backstories (still hoping we get more with them!)

Now I know that I'm invading my dash with Trigun stuff, but to all the TriStamp fans who need an extra dose of copium up until the season 1 finale, do I have a deal for you!

Trigun (1998): The not-exactly complete adaptation of the Trigun manga (and/or Trigun Maximum) in a wholesome emotional take of the spaghetti-western genre with a perfectly goofy but terrifying Vash the Stampede. The dub reigns supreme with tones and characterization, and even when the story is close to 60% filler, the pacing between the action (and Kuroneko) gave me time to enjoy the main cast and the environment no matter how brief the encounters are. And on a brief sidenote, Milly is best girl, Wolfwood is actually more than a kickass "priest", the Gung-Ho-Guns (aka. Eyes of Michael) are way more terrifying compared to TriStamp, and Nai/Knives actually gets some goddamn therapy whether he wants to or not.

Land of the Lustrous (Houseki no Kuni): Also produced by the same studio as TriStamp (Studio Orange) but 7 years ahead of its time, it follows the manga of the same name as a quiet apocalypse of the Mind, Body, and Soul; sentient jellyfish amalgamations who live in a near-endless ocean, ageless (and genderless) gemstones who fight for their own purpose in life, and ethereal spirits of the moon who live in cheap entertainment and glittering fancies...And extra fun fact, the jp VA for Phosphophyllite/Phos is the same VA as jp Vash, and their roles are just as similar in anime and manga even if it covers the first arc of Phos' journey. The dub is just as great, but that's just some food for thought. :)

Nier: Automata ver. 1.1a: Produced by A1 Studios, it makes a surprisingly nostalgic retelling of the action-slashing post-apocalyptic game with a interesting blend of homages to Yoko Taro's other titles (Nier/Replicant/Reincarnation & Drakengard 3) as well as changing the original storyline to tie in loose ends. And a great way to explain the 26 whole endings of the game is through cutesy little puppet shows and paper cutouts with a twist. It also gets updated around the same time as TriStamp, so it can also work as a palate cleanser as well!

Dorohedoro: If you want more gore and guts than what TriStamp (somewhat) watered down from the manga, and gives the fans a wholesome dose of found family/familial relationships, then Dorohedoro might be the thing for you! Produced by MAPPA (of Chainsaw Man), it follows the story of two worlds ravaged by magic smoke, demons, ghouls, and one lizard-headed goofball who eats gyoza like a blackhole and has a man living in his mouth like a reverse sock puppet. While I didn't cross-check the manga for its accuracy, the grittiness of the Hole versus the not-Hogwarts level of magical worldbuilding gives you a wacky and wonderful show with plenty of mysteries in every turn...Also Nikaido and Noi are best buff girls, Kaiman is a dangerous dork, and Ebisu deserves all the hugs and pats in the world.

Did Tokyo Ghoul rip off Dorohedoro?

When there are so many similarities the question arises.

**many spoilers ahead**

We have two gritty stories that feature humans and inhumans, part living amungst one another, part living in 'different worlds'.

Human are prey in both.

Humans are a food source for ghouls.

Humans are used by sorcerer's to practice their magic on.

The leading characters are **spoiler alert** hybrids **spoiler alert** and not natural ones, **spoiler** both had been subject to experimentation, it's a slow burn to truly learn what happenedand why.

We have tragic natural hybrids within both Tokyo Ghoul and Dorohedoro. Both adversaries. Both lost their mothers early to human mobs. Both have a dad just trying to live a peaceful existence.

The lead females who both work at cafes in human territory, **spoiler** they are both of the inhuman kind yet prefer humans, they see the grass as greener.

We are soon introduced to a super wealthy, open cannibal adversary who take us to a lavish, sort of glamorous but rather gross ball.

Both stories have the characters wear masks, everyone does socially, there are some characters wearing full body suits.

Human and ghouls are indistinguishable from one another on the outside. On the inside, a ghoul has an extra organ.

Human and sorcerer's are indistinguishable from one another on the outside. On the inside, a sorcerer's has a tumor and additional circulatory system.

Consuming from others is a means of amping up one's power. Where it's cannibalism in for the ghouls, it's taking hits of someone else's smoke for the sorcerer's. This is a major issue in both stories.

Just got to the very end of Dorohedoro, one of the best manga/coolest works of fiction ever created. It's been over for a couple of years now but I never wanted to rush through it. I once did a spoiler-free character introduction applicable to the first few chapters and the anime adaptation, but now that I’m caught up and it’s been over maybe I should do a full spoiler review of all major characters and entities?? If you’ve never read it I just cannot stress enough how lovable it is. It’s so, so gory and gruesome and violent and dark yet all the characters are totally silly
