BACKGROUND

tl;dr : guy who's a supporting character in his own story suffers a minor existential crisis in deciding between (a) wanting to do his own thing and (b) fulfilling the role he was quite literally created to play. unfortunately, he's made this everyone else's problem.

this is subject to change if needed to fit with e2, but i imagined the yoon family to run a silicon mining business that skyrocketed in no small part due to eunseok's father marrying into a family that manufactures semiconductors.

eunseok's father . . . now there's a real schemer. everything he did was designed to gain control of the family company, and eunseok was no exception. eunseok has grown up acutely aware of this, and is completely normal and unaffected as a result.

eunseok wasn't always a menace!! eunseok always had a predilection for mischief, but genuinely tried to be the perfect heir as a child — though he soon realized that nothing he did really mattered. if he did everything he was supposed to do, fine. that was the minimum expectation. if he acted out, the consequences would just be swept away like the trouble never happened. yoon eunseok had a very particular role to fulfill, you see, and something like proper parenting wasn't going to get in the way of eunseok's father's plan to take over the family company.

and so a monster was born.

2013 (+ 2016) : invited to the club to terrorize the other initiates. wish i was joking about this one. driven to succeed because (a) he plays to win and this is the sort of environment he thrives in, unfortunately, and (b) as a fuck you to the other initiates in his class. interestingly, the actual benefits of being in the king's club are at most a tertiary motivation to eunseok — i guess one of the weaknesses of never concocting your own schemes is that you aren't great at long-term planning. throws notorious parties. kinda notorious, period — there are rumors that he'll hook up with anyone tall and beautiful, regardless of gender (this is true); that he races mclarens on the weekends (this is false); and that he bribed (true), slept with (false), and physically threatened (technically false) his way to the top end of the class. endlessly ambitious and seemingly insatiable, you might be wondering: what's the point, if eunseok's whole deal is that he'll trot obediently back to daddy's side when the man calls?

well, i'm not saying that it's the painful crash at the end. but i'm not not saying that, either. i don't think eunseok really knows, himself.

2024 : the pawn is put in play; the dog is leashed. placed as an evp somewhere, then named coo upon his father's ascension to ceo/chairman/whatever. appears to have chilled out dramatically, but time will tell whether this is maturity, resignation, or mere suppression. :)))))))

PERSONALITY

entj. waffles between chaotic neutral and chaotic evil.

character inspo/parallels include roman roy, sylvain gautier, dorian gray, the cuntier end of taemin's solo discography (stream eternal out aug 19!!!!), the weeknd's trilogy album, nero, and lestat de lioncourt. also my uni roommate's various finance-bro exes. lmao.

all of this to say: think of the most annoying guy you know. think of a shark in the water. think of a poorly-trained bloodhound let off the leash. think of blood, generally — something slick and thrumming and visceral. if eunseok wants something, he will take it, because honestly? eight times out of ten, the taking is what he really wants, in the end.

he's no master manipulator . . . moreso a cudgel lol. does very little plotting for how often he seems to be Making Moves(tm). how things never really come back to bite him should be studied in a lab, or maybe made into a hbs case study, but he's smarter than most people give him credit for, particularly in actual business management (unironically i think he would thrive as a logistics guy), but he cares little for mind games and saving face and also likes baiting fights for fun so. yeah.

thinks everyone playing nice is a hypocrite and a dummy! comes across as super arrogant but like in his mind . . . he's just being honest? like, yeah. he's rich. he wins a lot. by virtue of him winning, someone else, e.g., you, are a loser. life is short so why are we wasting time pretending otherwise?

ooough i wanna punch eunseok just reading this back. ironically i'd still absolutely go to the club with him because despite it all you know our boy is good fun. also you'll probably leave with an insane story. but i digress.

WANTED CONNECTIONS

these r. rough but! i'm really very open to brainstorming!!

a childhood friend — someone who witnessed eunseok's various metamorphoses and who is probably the only person, other than eunseok's father, who was unsurprised when eunseok fell in line after graduation. i'm flexible re: the exact contours of the relationship (ride or dies for life! drifted apart! bitter enemies), but i like the idea of someone knowing eunseok better than he knows himself.

2024 : if yr muse is involved with electronics: i present to u the (pending) heir of korea's largest semiconductor manufacturer. mwah ok.

2016 : love, hate, whatever — the point is that eunseok is used to evoking strong reactions. your muse, however, doesn't seem to care at all, nonreactive to flirtation and fury, and that really doesn't sit well with eunseok. tensions are high; maybe this volatility comes to a head.

2016 : alternately, maybe an initiate who has gotten the idea of gaining eunseok's approval into their head (get well soon!). get ready to have your time supremely wasted, buddy.

2016 : another envelope-pusher. yeah, the king's club parties, but you two party, making recklessness a game.

2016 (+2024, maybe!) : the person whose door eunseok finds himself stumbling to when the party's over. in the haze between intoxication and sobriety, you get to see a eunseok that even eunseok doesn't get to see — one that voices insecurities and worries. it's a weird sense of trust, and not even one necessarily tied to fondness (though it could be!). it could also be fun, i think, if they didn't keep in touch but for eunseok drunk-dialing your muse. that'll make the reunion exciting, eh!!

friends. enemies. flings. i don't necessarily know that eunseok's capable of holding down a relationship but i think it could be funny to see him try. in 2024 his family's probably trying to set him up with someone, so that could be something, maybe?

Solas - Wolf, because he's the. He's the Dread Wolf.

Varric - American badger. Badgers usually live in burrows, and are short and stocky! Chose American badgers for their shorter faces.

Cassandra - Nearly entirely inspired by Karelian Bear Dogs, because I think a hunting dog is a good fit for someone from a family of dragon hunters

Cullen - A German Shepherd or Malinois type dog. Breeds often used as guard and police dogs

Leliana - Red fox, for obvious reasons (she's a redhead and sneaky. like foxes)

Josephine - Deer, I used marsh deer as a main inspo tho. Friend suggested a bird and that would've really fit but birds aren't always the most expressive, sadly. Why's she a deer? Vibes.

Dorian - Caracal, because caracals look fancy and like warm environments. He's my favorite to draw can you tell.

Sera - A lynx of sorts. Honestly this one was just vibes too

Cole - Jackrabbit. Because they're lanky and have unnerving stares. Also I think the ridiculous ears would match his hat. :)

Iron Bull - I think this is obvious. Kinda wanted to do something else just as a bit but bulls really do just fit him!

Blackwall - Markhor. At first I wanted a bear but bears are a bit too round and bulky to fit him, and I also wanted his beard in there naturally.

Vivienne - Melanistic serval. Again, just vibes. Was also considering a leopard, since they're also regal, but I wanted her headpiece shape in there.

and lastly, Felix - Dobermann mix of sorts. This is also just vibes but it's also because the thingies on his dads hood remind me of cropped dobermann ears.

(Hukka is of course a wolf as well. it wouldn't be right to make him any other animal)

Whatever happens now, I’m envisioning an Imogen glamour bard multi class timeline and vibing to it so hard rn. Like, what a turn? How does she go from hating crowds to enthralling them? Skirting the sidelines to being the mechanical center of attention? Sounds crazy fun, especially with the fey theming already swirling around with feytouched in the mix.

Not to mention the mechanical benefits too. Bardic inspo is a great resource that could stretch sorcery points farther in a day by giving imogen another bonus action option (of course she has that from telekinesis and can get more points with sorcerer levels, but it’s pretty wild how broad the benefits are). Given how RP heavy the campaign has been so far, glamour bard’s other features could really shine too.

Now I’ve talked myself into wanting a glamour bard in the party…

Glamour bards are a lot of fun! I DM for one.

I agree that it would be a pretty sharp turn for her, although bards don't have to be the center of attention! That's how a lot of people play it, and it's how I've played it before, but if you think about it, Dorian can be quite awkward or uncomfortable with attention and Imogen already is both extremely charismatic but has difficulty in crowds. I kind of like Glamour for that reason because the flavor fits well with like, smoke and mirrors and disappearing into a role that isn't really you (as well as the obvious fey-touched synergy).

My heart is absolutely not set on it. I think there's a very strong possibility Imogen's story ends up being about embracing her strange powers and learning to control them (which, to be honest, is a throughline with this whole party) in which case a multiclass doesn't make sense, and I also don't know if Laura wants to position herself as a secondary healer a third time (which, given that she seems to really like DPS and arcane utility casting, is valid). But if we're just talking possible multiclasses in general, a bard dip for Imogen is really fun.

Other things going on - 

Gif Sets - I have like sooo much gameplay footage I need to work through but it’s slow going and I am lack inspo in that department. I am working through stuff but right now my plan is some Solas, Cullen, Dorian (cuz I love him) and just romance scene stuff I still have to get through. I am testing out some Solas Character Swaps at some point this weekend as well so we can see how that goes... maybe I will have some more CS gifs too.

Writing - So in spite of posting like..nothing. I have been writing a lot. I am working on the first chapter of Solas & Fenora’s fic (which was going to be just a prompt fill but it got away from me), the first chapter of the fic that chronicles Cullen & Maeve falling in love and I am working my way through edits of a few of the 14DALovers prompts expanding them and making them fit more with Maeve’s actual story arch. One has almost doubled in length so far so they are definitely going to be worth the reread...

The Extra Life Team - Yes I am still thinking of this, I haven’t had the time in the week to really sit and start to write down plans and well, plan. I am hoping by the end of the month to have a more solid idea other than “let's do this shit!” 

I know my blog can be oddly set up with gaps in content and I am sorry... my life is just well.. chaotic at times. I have a lot on my plate and often this side is the last thing I get to. I am full-time caregiver to my son, we both have various health issues and I still have things like dishes, laundry, just general life things that take lots of spoons (if you know what I mean) and I try to save some for fandom stuff but I can’t always do that. Particularly this time a year with illnesses around every corner. The very mild winter has wreaked havoc on my whole family. I appreciate everyone who stayed with the gaps in content, my crippling depression and everything else. I wish I had the means to do some manner of giveaway but I am hoping in the future to do so.

Aseri’s overall inspiration is weightlifter Pimsiri Sirikaew, but her face is inspired by a mix with actor Mario Maurer. Other body inspos are another weightlifter, Cao Lei, as well as body builder Nicole Wilkins

CHARACTER DISSECTION

#1 - stream of consciousness/para

Daphne’s numbness is blithe, her lips meeting as silk around the ice cold glass of vodka. She is tremulous without it. Yet elsewhere, amidst a cloud of soulless uncertainty, wintry swans cast snow from fledgling feathers upon a stage that was hers by right. Adeline guided Lindsey with hands fluttering with inspiration, pushing her to leap just a little higher, and the sight settled as heavy, sodden dust in Daphne’s heart. Princess Aurora had been stolen from her twice now, first by her own protege, and now by some dark little nobody.

At least when Katerina had taken the part, Daphne could comfort herself that, perhaps, she had only possessed those skills because of Daphne’s own tutelage.

It was a part that had always eluded her, Aurora. She had danced a gossamer Swan Princess, brought life to Giselle’s soft limbs, she had lived and died as Juliet. Downtrodden in a hushed and sussurrous haze, she scowled once more at the stage. In days gone by, she had been everything. The heralding stars were a map of her movements, and each symphony cupped her sculpted body as though it had been written for her. It was how the world was meant to be.

She had always supposed it came of being a twin. Lucille, just a few minutes older than Daphne, had always been in competition. Always pushed themselves to beat their mirror image. It could have torn them apart, had they not competed at such different things; Daphne was the prettiest, she was the best dancer, she was the most famous. But Lucille was the most studious, the most clever, she was lauded by some as a genius in her field of physics. It was how their mother had liked it, pushing each girl to her limits.

Daphne hadn’t told her mother yet, that she was to be Carabosse. She was already dizzied by her premonition, of that disapproving sniff. “Well,” she would say, eyes lingering on Daphne’s calves as though they might be the culprits of her failure, “At least it’s a named part. Oh, darling, did you hear, Lucille had her study on the movement of space-time published by the AAAS?”

She’d told Lucille, anyway, and had received warm indulgences and sympathy. They were so different, and it allowed them to be best friends. Lucille was her only friend, really. She’d thought, once, that Katerina had been a good friend, but she had usurped her, and friends didn’t do that. Katerina had been just like the rest of them, pretty and young and ready to submit her skin to their punishing art form. Daphne had hated the smugness she felt when, at rehearsals, Katerina had once in a while stumbled. Not least of all because whenever anyone else required assistance, it diverted the attention away from Daphne’s desultory grace.

So preoccupied was she with thoughts of harpy-mothers and dead proteges, she quite missed the first attempt on her attention. Adeline was attempting to summon her for a little one-on-one session, and Daphne rose with all the regality she could muster. Walking forth in somber echo, she fancied she felt the sympathetic eyes of the young dancers around her, and it made her seethe. To them, she had once been a perfect cadence. Now, too many of them pitied her. Opalescent light means little without a prism with which to prehend, and in their pitying gaze she withered. Did they know about the drinking? Did everyone? Or did they only see the breath of a crow’s foot blossoming beside her eyes, a grim memento mori that no quantity of expensive lotions could erase?

Ascending to the stage, she brushed past Lindsey. She wasn’t sure if Lindsey even noticed, really, but Daphne was electrically aware of the youthful plumpness of her skin, glowing pink with exertion. Lindsey was insulting in her youth, insolent in her grace. Only years of practiced malice kept Daphne’s expression smooth and expectant, and the spotlights onstage were a salve. There was very little that couldn’t be fixed with a little attention.

“Well,” she trilled with a voice that was both melodic and yet utterly lacking in heart, “Let’s not stand around waiting for the grass to grow!”

#2 - a life in bullet points

Daphne and her twin were both enrolled in pre-ballet classes by their mother, who insisted they try their hand at everything in order to find their strengths. Lucille hated it, but Daphne had a natural talent and soon became absorbed in the world of ballet. She attended a ballet academy from the age of 11; she’d wanted to train in Russia but it was financially impossible, so she went to London instead.

She became the best not through natural talent, but through grueling work. Her academic work suffered because of it, but she danced tirelessly and strove always towards perfection.

For most of her life, Daphne has considered herself to be perfectly in control. She never succumbed to an eating disorder, as so many ballerinas did, because she knew how many calories she burned through dance and ate enough to maintain a slim, muscular physique without suffering. She considers herself to be in control of her drinking, too, because she thinks that she could stop, if she wanted to– - it’s just that she doesn’t care to.

Having been such a workhorse her whole life, Daphne never made many friends. At first it was a matter of having no time to socialise, and then her peers began to notice that when she was present, there was a certain insincerity about her that tended to rub them up the wrong way. Her smile was wide enough, but her words were hollow. People, to her, were either talented, and therefore a threat, or untalented, and therefore not worth wasting her breath on.

Being relegated to playing Carabosse was, naturally, a blow to her. Daphne has made it her life’s mission to become a ballerina, and she worked damn hard for it, and now at only 33 she’s being passed over for younger dancers. She’s always been a jealous person, but this blow is pushing her right to the edge.

CONNECTING THE DOTS

KATERINA SANTOS was the first person in a long time that Daphne would call a friend. At first their relationship was purely professional: Katerina valued the lessons that Daphne could give, and Daphne enjoyed the powerful feeling of respect. At home, she was always the little sister– - needy and attention seeking, it was up to Lucille to watch over her. With Katerina, Daphne took on that role herself and found that it suited her. If she was less proud, she might even consider teaching once her ballerina days are over. Over time the bond between the two women grew, and they shared a great deal. Daphne really thought she did love Katerina, until the cast list was released and Katerina had what was rightfully hers. Betrayed and usurped by someone that was supposed to care for her, any friendship she felt towards Katerina withered immediately.

DORIAN ARMSTRONG is not someone that Daphne ever wanted to like. Most of her drinking is done at home, but she’s aware that the first sign of alcoholism is drinking alone. To that end, she often drops in at McMahon’s after rehearsals for a few drinks, and so she often sees Dorian. Though convinced he judges her for her habits, she remains cordial on the outside as she couldn’t bear the humiliation of being barred from the pub. It only occurred to her after many weeks of drinking there that he’s also a delivery man, often bringing special costume pieces and props in during the day. He always seems to be there on the periphery, and his constancy is something that Daphne appreciates. Perhaps it’s because any time spent with him tends to be spent under the influence, she finds that she can relax a little around him.

I have sadly not had enough time to post on the mockblog I made! I had great plans, but the last few days have been hectic and I wanted to get in before acceptances. I do have my inspo tag on my blog, but for now that’s all I’ve got to offer!
