The Phantom of the Sea

“Done, Gran!” Michael called out, sitting on his white leather sofa with his ghost, Blobby.

“Coming with seconds!” Her voice echoed around the house. Michael dashed out, slamming the door behind him with all his might and started up the half-broken ladder. He was sure his gran was demented. Blobby followed, staring down at Gran. Mike started to skip steps as he neared the top. The navy-blue sky glittered with stars.

“Wow, wow, wow!” Blobby exclaimed. As his tiny eyes grew as big as football fields. He had never seen stars in his 4,000 years of being a friendly ghost. They stepped up the ladder and reached the top, that was infested with cats.

Entering the treehouse, the wooden door creaked open, revealing a hidden portal. They were stupefied. The door was left ajar.

“Blobby? What is this portal doing in my treehouse?” Mike mumbled, as an ‘I don’t know what to do – in a bad way’ look spread across his pale face.

“Maybe it’s a portal to a doughnut or pretzel dimension, where it rains chewy-doowie gum and blows salted caramel as wind!” Blobby whispered in delight.

Meanwhile, back in the house, a demagogue was lackadaisically sharing his prejudiced ideas with Gran. She slammed the door shut on him as a rabble of reporters covered the door.

Back with Mike, the boy and his ghost couldn’t wait for the portal expedition. He turned a dial on their ‘adventurer’ outfits and they got weapons, such as a bow and arrows and enchanted swords from the land of Smyths Toy Superstores in aisle nine.

They leaped into it, teleported to the inside of a submarine and zoomed off the land and into the sea at supersonic speeds. It appeared they were in a game! Their bows, arrows and enchanted swords became reality.

“Look at this, Blobby,” Mike shouted in a surprised manner.

“Cooooool,” Blobby seconded.

The ocean was majestic, magical, marvellous and magnificent (alliteration). He was hungry all of a sudden, so Mike was thinking of pizza and that’s what he got.

He told Blobby, “What we think of we…”

He was interrupted by a voice in the background shouting, “You have been transported to another world and can only escape by finding the golden heart scale and the black shark’s tooth. You have 29 hours, which is a whole day in this dimension. Now start your quest, soldiers!”

They started up the engine and set off. The sea had an abundance of animals. Long, short or giant, tiny and even smooth, wrinkly. It was amazing and stunning. They found two chests near some algae and opened them. They found a black shark. Mike distracted it as Blobby snagged the tooth. The shark was enraged and chased them for 21 hours straight.

“Look at the time!” Blobby screamed. “Only 8 hours left.”

They rushed to the second chest but it was gone! They turned around and the shark turned into an octopus.

“Use the bow,” Mike ordered.

Blobby aimed and shot him in the head. They demanded Jackery Flack, the evil octopus, fess up and join them on their quest.

Blobby asked Jackery Flack, “Where is the golden heart scale?”

Jackery Flack guided them to a sand stream in the water. There was a gold chest engraved with initials.

“Open it!” exclaimed Jackery Flack.

They approached with extreme caution to not get sucked up by the sand stream.

Suddenly a dunemaid appeared!

“Ge’ off me treasure you scums!” she remarked, with an evil glare in her eyes.

Jackery Flack held her tight whilst Michael grabbed the scale and entered the submarine.

“No!” the dunemaid called out.

“Well done, soldiers. You shall instantly be teleported back.”

“Bye, Jackery Flack,” they both shouted as they teleported through a vortex and back to the treehouse. They came back, both speechless. They went through a once in a lifetime adventure. They both discussed it over and over again and life was back to normal.
