I once said that if I had to choose one song to act as the theme to my life, I would choose Rebel Rebel. Though it must have been a few years now since I first expressed that statement, it would still be the clear winner. David Bowie is an incredibly important artist to me, not only for his musical talents but also for his status as an androgynous icon. The glam rock movement as a whole had a huge impact on queer culture, so to speak, and David Bowie played a huge role in making androgyny a mainstream concept. This song means a lot to me, as a genderqueer kids who lives on the promise of the next gig and the next thrill, and I don’t think I’ll ever stop considering this one of the most important songs in my life.
