This fiery pit originated in 1971 when Soviet geologists were drilling for natural gas. Their rig accidentally punctured a gas cavern, causing the ground to collapse into a massive crater about 70 meters wide and 20 meters deep. To prevent the spread of methane gas, the team decided to ignite the gas, expecting it to burn out within a few weeks. Contrary to their expectations, the gas has continued to burn for over 50 years, creating a constantly flaming crater that emits an otherworldly glow, visible for miles around. The Darvaza gas crater, with its perpetual flames, has become a popular tourist attraction and is often referred to as the "Door to Hell" due to its dramatic appearance and the intense heat radiating from it. Despite its eerie moniker, the site draws adventurous travelers and scientists alike, fascinated by this unique and accidental phenomenon.

Anyway, this country is already known for a very strange reason. Yes, this is the same country, where the door of hell is believed. No one has been able to solve the mystery of this constantly burning door.

Now if seen, the story of this pit made by humans is quite common. But Turkmenistan was previously part of the Soviet Union. In such a situation, in the early seventies, large reserves of natural gas were detected here.

31 for 31 2021 Day 8 Movie: The Beyond(1981) This movie is widely considered to be in the running for the Goat of Italian horror cinema, and for good reason. The make-up, the artistic direction, and a majority of the special effects were all very well done. It’s the kind of stuff that make my inner art nerd come out and squeal with delight! But as great as the art direction was, the plot incredibly hard to follow. Like half way through the movie, I turned to my wife and said “well, I have no idea what the fuck is going on!” To which she replied *snore* because she fell asleep! Lucio Fulci is a true master of horror, and from the standpoint of an art nerd you should absolutely experience the masters of Italian horror! But let’s be real, badly dubbed Italian horror movies aren’t for everybody, and that’s ok. I specifically chose to draw the final scene, because it really was haunting to watch Doc McCabe and Liza Merril descend into the depths of hell. Frankly, it’s Probably the most powerful imagery in the movie.
