DECEMBER
playlist 3.36
This is my 72'nd monthly playlist, created 6 years straight.
When they first began, there were a lot of rules about their creation. Such as: Only 14 tracks, no repeats. Each playlist contains two songs that follow each other from their respective album. An artist can only be featured once per playlist, same for an album. All of those rules have been bent over time, but what hasn't is the release schedule. Six playlists per set, two sets a year, four sets make a phase. Currently, we have reached the end of Phase 3.
After six years of this, I'd like to demystify the process. These playlists are something I do for myself. I don't expect a click or a save, I just want to put some stuff together and have time capsules of how I felt at a time. It's a good outlet for my music taste, my low level graphic design skills and my creativity. When you make a playlist, you're not making anything original, you're just giving a connected context to stuff you like, and showing how it connects to you. I like that a lot.
For the past 6 months or more, I've tossed around the idea of stopping making these. At the end of the day they are just a thing to fill the time. But now that I've reached the end of this set, I still feel energized, and I have new ideas for playlists I want to make. I currently have six 4.0 playlists that I'm working on simultaneously. If I go through with publishing them, I have to commit to two more years of these though. It should be a little daunting, but I genuinely feel no trepidation. I'm just in need of some new ideas. Some new inspiration. I need a change of scenery, or something like that. Something to give me a new perspective.
One thing not stated anywhere is that the 3.0 playlists from the first half of 2023 are the only six playlists that were collaborated on. I picked 13 songs, and then I played those songs for Tessa so she could add one song to the track list. There's also a lot of mirrored aspects to the 4.0 and the 4.3 playlists that released the past 6 months. Maybe some histrionic weirdo can figure those out.
One thing I plan to do at some point is to make YouTube cuts of the best playlists to exist in that 1-hour vaguely titled music playlist algorithm bubble. I like that niche, it suits my release style I think. I really wish people shared their favorite music more, there's a lot of shame in what people like, and the most people are usually willing to share is all the same stuff that they already know other people like.
There are a few of the playlists that are unfortunately not fully playable, because of songs getting pulled off streaming, especially ones that contain crucial Namie Amuro songs. Hopefully some of those playlists make the cut for the YouTube versions that way they can be in their true form with cut songs re-added to their runtime.
I don't have much else to add. It is currently 1:39 AM on December 6'th, 2024 and my eyes are heavy. I plan to keep expressing myself in my ways, and I hope to one day be seen for the human I am. If I say something, I mean it. If I let you around me, I value you. If you're reading this, I thank you. Phase 4 begins 1/1/2025.
