hi i really hope this doesn’t appear rude i promise this is genuine and i will believe what you and the other fanders with epilepsy have to say, i just keep thinking about something and i wanted to ask about it (and you don’t have to reply if you don’t want to, i thought i’d come to you because i thought about this after seeing your post on the 11 month mark of the episode, but it’s ok if you don’t feel like it.)

i agree that the thing with pof is terrible and a warning in the description will never be as good as one at the beginning of the video. but youtube videos can’t be edited, you have to delete them and post them again, which i don’t think thomas can afford to do with the whole deal he must have with advertisers. i thought he could put a safer version in the playlist instead and promote that one but, again, i dont know how that would work with the sponsors of the video that has already been posted, i don’t think it’s so simple, there must be like legal contracts and stuff involved. the only solution that comes to my mind is like.. uploading a short video with the warning and putting it in all the Sides playlists before POF, so when someone is watching them they get interrupted by that first, and i think the playlist is how the great majority of the people who will watch this video in the future will see it. i think that’s a reasonable thing to ask from them? otherwise i can’t see how it could be in thomas and the team’s control to do more about a warning on that specific video.

i do agree that they should acknowledge out loud their mistake and show proof of how they will avoid this in the future, like show that they are hiring a service to tell them when something might be risky, but that’s about the future, i genuinely don’t know what more they could do about the video that has been posted already. i think it would be a good focused uh request? demand? to ask them to post a video (with them warning, acknowledging the problem, linking to another video without the sequence and giving more info on what they plan to do next) and put it there in the playlist before POF. (also because having a focused/not vague request that many people repeat is what usually pressures ppl into getting things done, because at least i, as an outsider, reading the posts by fanders with epilepsy they feel a little vague, like i don’t know what they want Thomas to do, but that might be a me problem). so i wanted to know what you think.

Thank you for sending this ask, I don’t think you came across as dismissive, and if I come across as harsh in my response that is not directed at you, it’s directed at Thomas and those in the fandom who refuse to acknowledge he does anything wrong.

So, I’m going to be honest Anon, I don’t really understand how payment on YouTube works. When it comes to POF though, people were discussing the issues right from when the video was released. It took months to get even the warning they have, and that after being repeatedly dismissed by Joan on the issue. So whatever impact taking it down and putting it back up with a warning would have could have been minimized by listening to us earlier. I think you make some good suggestions for how Thomas may be able to fix things better than they have currently without losing any money, but I would also like to point out that the Patreon is doing very well and that that can help to offset any losses he would have from taking the video down temporarily and reuploading it with a proper warning. The IDEAL case scenario for me would be him adding a proper warning and being prepared to handle whatever financial loss comes with it because we have tried to educate him multiple times prior to even POF and the issues with POF were blatant enough that a warning should’ve been common sense. Second best case scenario would be him adopting something similar to one of your suggestions and editing the title of the video to direct people wherever necessary.

As far as making a safe version of the video goes, I’m not going to expect that (although I have every right to and would not be unreasonable to ask for it) because that would probably just mean remaking almost the entire video.

One thing I want from him no matter what though is a public apology showing that he actually understands what he did wrong and how he plans to fix it in the future.

And since this was in response to my latest post, I’m going to address something you didn’t ask, which is that that post was also largely directed at the fandom for not holding him accountable and outright denying that he has forgotten to warn more often than not. I’ve seen many posts acting as though epileptic danders are being irresponsible for watching the videos and that we shouldn’t be complaining. Or as if the warnings have always been there and we’re just making things up to attack Thomas. THAT was the main point of that post although I absolutely still want and need Thomas to fix and address everything.

So I watched Blade of the Immortal

Specifically the 2019 ONA release of this story by LIDENFILMS. This anime probably flew under literally everyone's radar because this anime was on Amazon of all places. I haven't read the original series or watched the original anime, but I have heard of its legacy. People seem to hold up Blade of the Immortal to high regards.

The 2019 adaption of Blade of the Immortal is certainly good. I wouldn't call it masterclass storytelling, but the anime can become very compelling to watch. Multiple characters go through some really cool development, especially for the main character, Rin. The actual immortal in the story plays a supporting role in the narrative most of the time, which was surprising.

Speaking of which, this story does some really unique stuff with the immortality trope that I haven't seen anywhere else. The animation is also really detailed. The advantage of animating an ONA is that you don't really need to adhere to the schedule of a television broadcast. There's some real complicated character designs that need to be animated here and it looks great.

HOWEVER, this is not an anime I can easily recommend despite how good it is. There's some hurdles you will need to be able to get over to watch this anime and it warns you at that start of each episode. For a little bit of context, this anime takes place in medievil Japan. I know enough about japanese history to know that being a woman in that era was not a good time.

There's plenty of rape and sexual assault in this anime. The good news is that this anime does not glorify it and is condemning it more than anything. It's used as a narrative tool and to shock you into understanding that medievil Japan is fucked up. This isn't like other anime/hentai where the offender just gets away with it and the women get treated like an object and it doesn't have an effect on the characters or narrative. I can praise this anime for not glorifying sexual assault like so much japanese media does, (Side note: This is a SERIOUS problem with Japan) but it is going to make you uncomfortable. In fact, it wants you to be uncomfortable, the anime clearly communicates that rape and sexual assault is terrible and you need to be okay with watching characters experience these horrifying scenarios.

The second hurdle is the gore in this anime. It's not just blood spraying everywhere, there's some very detailed depictions of very severe injuries. The brutality is used as a narrative tool of course, but I mean it when I say it's detailed. The animation really sells the impact of what's happening. I'd compare it to how Mortal Kombat depicts its violence, just without the bones shattering.

The third hurdle is whether or not you have epilepsy. The animation is great, but the animation direction has some red and white flashing going on. It's not super frequent, but it's enough to make me concerned about it.

If you can get past these hurdles then I'd recommend this anime for sure, however, this isn't a masterpiece. The biggest issue the anime has is the lightning fast pacing. You need to memorize the names and faces of characters because they will change their appearance without warning. Many characters have 0 introduction and will absolutely be relevant later on. The anime is not going to make sure you understand what's happening, so you might have to pause and take a minute to digest what is going on at times.

Also, the first 3 episodes actually suck. The 1st one is edgy as hell and the 2nd episode has very awkwardly timed comedy that does not contrast well with the 1st episode. (Side note: The comedy is usually timed well to break up the terrible shit the characters have to go through and some characters are clearly just trying to cope). 3rd episode brings back the edge, but the rest of the anime picks itself up and does great without stumbling too hard.

Sitting through it is worth it, the anime ends off on a really good note that wraps up everything very nicely. It's really cool to see an anime that actually has an ending that doesn't ruin anything. Seriously, the final episode has some incredible shit in it. Many characters have amazing developement as well (a couple dont, but they dont drag the story down at all). There's a lot of great things I can say about the characters that I won't elaborate on because this post is long enough already.

I do need to talk about Manji a little bit though. This anime isn't some kind of power fantasy, Manji is not overpowered in the slightest despite being immortal. My guy gets his ass kicked several times even if he ends up winning. I love that he isn't written to be the most powerful like most immortals would be. It's really interesting to see an immortal go through a lot of physical struggles instead of asserting their immortal dominance on the rest of the cast.

This is a real good anime and it's worth the watch, just, be aware of what you're getting into. Blade of the Immortal won't pull its punches and it's not going to be a casual watch. It gives you a lot to think about over its runtime. This anime will be in my head for a while.

S to Se: okay this is actually important and genetically encoded for (selenocysteine) because biological sulfur compounds tend to be in low oxidation states, so low valent Se (ie, selenols like thiols, selenides like sulfides, etc) is just Softer, Sloppier Sulfur. Its rare in the body but definitely used in some specialized proteins. Tellurium poisoning is a fate worse than death though.

Cl to Br: *deep breath* organobromides are more reactive oxidizers than the relatively stable C-Cl bond, most simple ones like benzyl bromide are world class lachrymators and carcinogens and bromoethylacetate is an old tear gas. Fun fact one time i accidentally made iodoacetone which does the same thing and suffered greatly. bromide salts are strong sedatives and we still don't totally know why but bromide salts were used as treatment for epilepsy and mania in the 1800s and "bromide" was slang for something to soothe a conversation, someone with "bromism" was slang for someone who was especially dull. Unfortunately bromide ions take a while to remediate out bc theyre Not Cl and Not I and therefore a lot of people died of bromide poisoning. Soon after we discovered barbiturates which are much more efficient at sedating you to death. Then we discovered benzodiazepines which dont kill you very easily, and now everyone is addicted to Xanax. If you think any higher oxidation state of a halide matters in the body then you can put on your clown shoes and walk on home.

Fun fact, p block hydrides beyond ammonia water and hydrohalic acids all smell vaguely the same, theyre all violently toxic and smell like rotten garlic. The smell receptors go "ah, yes, lots of electrons. Hydride. Strong reducing agent. no thanks." H2S is the most famous, most common, and probably least toxic, but phosphine, selenane, arsane, etc all smell like death (and the advertising is spot on!)

Ace, Sabo and Luffy with an S/O who has epilepsy

Ace

. You told him that you suffered from Epilepsy when you first met.

. He had a vague idea of what it was but that was it - however Ace made an effort to learn more about it for you.

. The first time you had a seizure he freaked out.

. His mind went completely blank on every single bit of information he had ever learned.

. Ace spent the first 20 seconds shouting for help before he remembered to cushion your head.

. Only he doesn't wear a shirt and he knew a hat wouldn't be sufficient.

. So he took off his shorts and used them as a makeshift pillow.

. When you are recovered you find him hovering nervously over you with the most worried expression, wearing nothing but his boxers.

. When you've fully recovered he insists that you go over it again with him, so he is ready for next time.

. But first you have to stop laughing and give him his shorts back.

Sabo

. Sabo has good general knowledge of first aid and has assisted with people having seizures before.

. He is reasonably confident that he knows how to handle any situation that presents itself.

. And to a degree he does.

. Except this is you so it puts 100 times more pressure on him because he has to make sure you're okay.

. When you do have a seizure he knows not to try and hold you down. He knows to protect your head and make sure nothing around you could cause you any more harm.

. He does this all with shaking hands.

. His fingers run up and down your arm, waiting for it to pass, slowly counting the seconds.

. When you wake up you'll be in the recovery position

. Sabo will be sitting beside you. He'll have a blanket, water, food, anything he thinks you might want or need to feel better.

Luffy

. Does not know what epilepsy is

. Does not know how to deal with it

. Though he tries to listen when you explain it to him he can see Usopp behind you, testing out a new catapult, and that takes a lot of his attention.

. So when you do have a seizure he has no idea what is happening.

. He doesn't realise what's happening at first and then he remembers you said something like this might happened but after that his mind is blank.

. He tries to stop you, to keep you still so you dont flap around and hurt yourself while he shouts for Chopper.

. When Chopper arrives he instantly gets Luffy to let you go. He tells the captain that what he was doing was wrong.

. Luffy wants to help but he doesn't want to hurt you anymore so he backs up to the wall.

. He watches and waits and tries not to worry because Chopper is there and he will fix it.

. When you recover he waits till Chopper gives him the okay, then he wraps his arms around you and doesn't let go for a solid ten minutes.

. Luffy will try his hardest to learn how to help you after this.

A/N: This is a Prequel, to my new story The MCU’s Daughter, inspired by Brie Larson’s album Finally Out of PE. Invisible Girl was merely the inspiration for this piece and if lyrics are seen it’s probably just me listening to the song about 100 times writing this and editing it.

Summary: Long before she was the MCU’s Daughter. Before they were the Internet’s Daughters. They were just teenage girls trying to fit into a new system, a new country and a new school. Before all the fame and success two teens first became friends and teammates.

“Happy Regionals Day!” Tegan said as she walked into the classroom.

“What do you mean Regionals Day?” I asked as Tegan sat down next to me.

“I mean every one of our classmates except for a few are at athletics regionals today. So it is just four of us in yr 8 and we get to be alone. No teachers!” Tegan said to me going up to the whiteboard and writing ‘class plans: nothing,’ on it.

“So do you want to watch movies or play games?” Alexandra asked sitting down in Miss G’s chair.

“I vote conspiracy videos,” I said.

“I vote you actually do some school work,” Miss G’s assistant said coming through the class door to grab her folders for the day.

“So if we do an hour of school work we can do whatever we like for the rest of the day?” I asked her.

“Yes.”

“Sweet,” Hamish said taking his seat.

“So it’s just you four in here everyone else is going to the other classes. Don’t rub it in. And maybe edit some videos,” she told us all.

“That last one counts as schoolwork. So we can watch raw footage and put it together and film a video of today and then we can watch videos and play weird games for the rest of the day,” Tegan suggested.

“And we can have meetings at the desk,” Alexandra added on.

“Sounds like a plan.”

Once we’d watched raw footage of us all in Wellington enjoying ourselves. With comments such as ‘we have to include that!’ and ‘no! No, we can’t include Miss G swearing at a wall! Can we?’ it passed the time till morning tea. And after that, we dissolved into playing games.

“OK! Hamish, bed, wed, behead, Saskia, Indy and Scarlett,” Alexandra asked.

“Uhhh… Kill Scarlett, Marry Saskia? And Bed Indy,” He said very scared.

“Why?” I asked him.

“Well, Scarlett’s horrible, Indy seems the most down for weird stuff and Saskia is the nicest,” Hamish said, “Now Tegan. Celebrities or people we know?”

“Celebrities, definitely,” Tegan responded.

“OK, Brie Larson, Scarlett Johanssen or Tom Holland?” Hamish asked.

“Kill Tom, Marry Brie and Fuck Scarlett. Because Tom is a twat, Brie is Brie and while Scarlett is a questionable person she is Natasha Romanoff and I mean,” Tegan responded almost too quickly, “Now, Alexandra, Celebrities or people we know?”

“People we know, I want a challenge,” She told Tegan.

“Hamish, Lachie and… Xavier.”

“Kill Xavier, Fuck Lachie and Marry Hamish, easy,” Alexandra told Tegan, “Simone, celebrity or people we know?”

“Celebrities.”

“The Marvel Chrises.”

“Fuck Hemsworth, kill Pratt and marry Evans,” I told her instantly.

“Well this is fun and all but I have to pop to the loo,” Tegan said closing her computer leaving the classroom

“Should we snoop?” I asked them.

“Yes,” Alexandra said, “And before you say anything else 2 against 1 Hamish.”

“Cool, what does she have in her emails?” I asked, “Who’s Donte?”

“I don’t know but let’s call him and find out.”

“Who are you guys?” I heard the familiar voice as I walked into the classroom.

“Hello Donte, my friends stole my computer and are skyping you,” I said walking toward the computer.

“That’s odd, you have friends?” He asked me back.

“Yes, I do. I’ll let them talk though I have some songs to work on,” I said waving to him.

“So…” Simone started as they asked him a thousand questions.

I sat down at the big computer with its piano keyboard and started trying to recall the keys for Shout Out To My Ex, that we were recording after lunch and tried to start singing.

“This is a shout out to my ex Heard he in love with some other chick Yeah yeah, that hurt me, I’ll admit Forget that boy, I’m over it I hope she gettin’ better sex Hope she ain’t fakin’ it like I did, babe Took four long years to call it quits Forget that boy, I’m over it,” I sang to myself in the corner.

“Guess I should say thank you For the “hate yous” and the tattoos Oh, baby, I’m cool by the way Ain’t sure I loved you anyway Go ‘head, babe, I'ma live my life, my life, yeah,” Alexandra joined in from across the room.

Ive had epilepsy since my first year of life and have had it for 19 years of life. I had a brain sugery to rid of it but it didnt because it came back after 2 years. Now I had my 2nd surgery of an implant of a VNS therapy machine. It works better. People would call me supportive hard working and fun but also slow and super dependent on others. Cuz of my epilepsy. So I cant work on my own like i would like too. Every new pwrson i meet i need to pull aside and tell them my situation and they would need to put up with, after I explain it they would leave and i would never see or hear from them again. My hobbies include liking things like movies and anime and reading and writing. I like to have fun but thanks to my seizures and some other things I cant be active as i'd like to be so Im always inside and watching things.A few years ago I found out that i no longer qualify for SSI income help from the government cuz I looked that i was getting better when really Im still bad. Even though no one can seen the kind of new seizures i have doesnt I dont have them. I still do every day Im fighting with epilepsy and seizures and way more things then just this. So just because you dont know my full story of like doesnt mean you me and wat my family had to suffer through cause of me and all they did to help me feel normal even when i know im will never be normal and always be sick for the rest of my life. Im trying to find a way to make a fundraiser anything or something for any kind of disability people that have the help they got or have had their rights taken away just cause they 'look' perfectly healthy to have a place to speak a place to be them and have a place to for them to have a chance to get the help that they need to servive. If you take away a disabled person power to speak then your talking away their power to live and 'you' (the SSI government) is taking away their will to live and are letting them die without a care. For them or for their friends and family. So If you any kind of disabled whether its mentally physically or physiologically. Please help me in spreading the word and help us have a voice against the government eho have people that are perfectly healthy and who dont have to go through the struggle of 'not be normal' but rather being freaks weridos and not being smart just we're disabled. #passiton #disability #help.

The grand Budapest hotel - good, great visuals. I enjoyed it.

The greatest showman - wonderful music, actual circus parts were good, the rest was boring. Its really short, and I felt it focused to much on the drama in pt barnums life, too much focus on a silly fuax love triangle, not enough on the acts themselves. I went in hoping to see the acts interact and actually be presented as the forefront. The beginning showed this magnificent scene with the acts, with this wonderful musical number that made me tear up. But then, it was just about Barnum and his kids being boring most of the time. The songs and musical scenes though? Absolutely wonderful, magnificent, stunning, and entertaining. Zendayas and Zac efrons characters duets? Beautiful, I loved the song and choreography. I just feel like the emphasis should have been on the circus itself. Hugh jackman. Needs. To. Do. More. Musicals.

Jumanji: out of the jungle - hilarious omg I laughed my ass off!

Jurassic world: THE HUBRIS OF MAN! THE INDO RAPTOR! BLUE! They made... An indoraptor. Not just any raptor, oh no, that's not enough for the hubris of man, its an indoraptor. What's an indoraptor you may ask? Well it's when you mix a raptor, with the indominous rex DNA. But Cotie, didn't the indominous rex already have raptor DNA? Wasnt that the whole thing that it was a t-rex with raptor DNA? Yes, yes it was. But this one is different, it's smaller, it's smarter, it made to obey commands like a war machine, it's the I N D O R A P T O R! So it's just a super powered velociraptor? Yes, yes it is. So what makes it special? THE HUBRIS BEHIND IT!

Incredibles 2: awesome! I loved it! Those flashing scenes really were no joke though. I don't have epilepsy, but damn those scenes were hard to look at. But I absolutely love the fact that edna babysat jack jack for a night, and gave him a super babysuit. I hope we get to see more of the other superheroes helping out the incredibles!

Hotel Transylvania 3: it was a good movie. Its the only Adam Sandler movie series I can stand, but it was a decent movie. I like the introduction of the van helsing family, and the whole premise. Plus I love the message that its possible to fall in love again.

Ant-man: "in like the Flynn" niiiiiiiiice Tangled ref! "ANT-THONY!!!!" Ok that was a fun and hilarious movie. I fucking love the three wombats, especially Luis omg. Also I love Scott lang relationship with his daughter and that he was the driving force behind his motivation. Also not gonna lie, I kinda watched this one so I could go see Ant-man and the Wasp, but I liked this one too.

A Wrinkle in Time: FUCK ITUNES NOT WANTING TO WORK DURING THIS MOVIE! ok but Chris Pine as a Dad? Awesome. "Happy anniversary, if only you'd dissapear too" wow, these high school preps are viscous. Also I love the little kid calling out grown ups for being pieces of shits. Also this movie was adorable and heart felt and I loved the mix of fantasy and science that made it a science fantasy movie omg.

Lara croft: tomb raider: ok but the girl who kicked Lara crofts butt in the beginning has me gay as Fuck man. "OPEN IT! OPEN IT! OPEN IT!" OK calm down Nicolas cage.

Guardians of the Galaxy volume 2: omg that was indeed another real marvel movie I had just seen. I can't believe the stooges are a space family that just, does stupid things. I love them all.

We gonna start some parralels; a wrinkle in time - a movie about two siblings trying to find their dad who has been lost for 4 years. They get him back through the power of love; Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - a daughter finds some adverturing stuff to lead her to her father who had been missing for 7 years. Tries to get him back by killing men. Doesn't, and then kills more men; Gaurdians of the Galaxy volume 2: a boy finds his father after 34 years, but turns out he is a huge fucking jerk, also finds that Mary poppins was his dad after all, but then both Mary poppins and jerk dad died, with varying degrees of mourning from Boy.

Spider-man homecoming: omg so many second hand embarrassment scenes but it was so good! I laughed my ass off at the ending omg tony no. But also, that awkward moment when ur dates dad threatens your life and he actually meant it...

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Dude. Duuuuuuude that end credit scene. Duuuuuuuuuuuuuude. That movie was just as hilarious as the first ant-man movie omg! It was fun and incredibal and I'm so happy the 3 combats were there. I was losing my shit over the baba yaga stuff!

Avengers age of ultron (semi live blogged): god, I'm 9 minutes in and I hate this movie... 13 minutes in an ur telling me this could've been avoided if marvel hadnt turned two Romani (from what I remember of mutant canon) characters into, not only human expirements instead of mutants, but voluntary hydra agents. -sighhhh-... 20 minutes in and why, why Tony, just... Tell the team, why do we gotta have lazy 'i dont wanna communicate' writing bullshit...Jarrrrrviiiiissssss my boy T.T... Did they really just try to make dissimising female characters and using their achievements as a sort of 'my horse is bigger than yours' as quality character writing? God this Bruce/Nat romance is so forced... Oh no, Ultron fucking appeared, why does he sound like a bad Tony stark impression? Ultron is fucking annoying... Fuck man, the plot with the twins have arrived, and I hate it... -mentions Wakanda- thanks for reminding of a better movie I could be watching... God, the acting is either way too dry, or way too ham... Wow... Clint is... The most mature person in the movie... Wow, the scene where Nat reveals she is infertile, is worse than I thought it would be, and I knew it would be awful... Hour and a half in, still bad... Though ultron is now acting like a c h i l d... Oh no, now we creating Ultron 2.0 this time its Jarvis... Please discuss it with the team, pleeeease... Annnnnnnd U didn't... Fuck... I'm so tired, 1 hour and 31 minutes and the team is fighting... Thor coming in for the jarvis Saaaave! Yassss vision with the worthy of the hammer! Okay the battle scene with ultron was pretty cool. Still dont like the movie over all.

Captain America civil war: not as much fighting as advertised. Too much 'we arent going to sit down and communicate' trope. Honestly I was too bored and tired to really actually pay attention to closely... All I got from it is the russos need to learn what a get along shirt is and be better film makers.

Avengers Infinty War: wtf, what the fuck, was that. That was some fuck right there. You are telling me thanos was really able to get the soul stone like That? And the mind stone like That? And all that other bull shit? Y'all Russo better be ready to have thanos ass kick in the next avengers movie. But damn that was some shit that happened.

Deadpool 2016: I loved every bit of the movie omg, it was everything I hoped for out of a deadpool movie.

King Arthur the one with kiera knightly: That uh, sure was a King Arthur movie? Way less weird than King Arthur Legend of the sword. Merlin didnt cast magic, and arthur was a Roman, but guinevere is a kick ass archer, soooo acceptable...

Deadpool 2: THAT WAS FUCKIN HILARIOUS I LOVE DEADPOOL SO MUCH! god I love this movie, I would die for dominoe.

The Nutcracker, four realms: such a cute af movie omggggggggggggg. I loved Captain Phillip the nutcracker soldier and the gold highlight they put on his lips 💓

Solo, a star wars story: Not bad, but not great, it kept on plot really well, not memorable but I won’t knock it. I still say the actor playing Han Solo looks photoshopped and not real.

Ghost stories (2018): awful... It was slow and boring, and I didnt like it... I rented it through itunes and it glitched part of the way through and I stopped being able to see the picture. Even after I got it working again I still didnt like it... Though I did like the message of "dont be a bystander", but the whole this was boriiiiiinnnnnnnggggggggggg.

Wreck it Ralph: okay, technically I caught the beginning like 4 or 5 years ago, but I finally actually watched it and it wasnt bad. Will go see the sequel.

Ralph breaks the internet: WAYYYYYY better than the emoji movie, also, I really loved the princesses scene, the bright colors, and following Venelope through the internet... Also.... Ralph........ Mission impossible, fallout: I liked it. It's an action movie. Saw it for my birthday, kinda interested in the other mission impossible movies now. I appreciate the advance tech and the obviously stupid impossible shit.

Oceans 8: Listen, i have never been interested in the Oceans franchise, i dont want to see crusty men steal things, but lads, im gay. Extremely gay, just, shamelessly gay.

The Breadwinner: holy shit that was a good movie.

Secret of the Kells: eh, it was a good movie. Not my favorite, but it was good. I mostly just like the animation.

Mune: Guardian of the Moon: dat was a cute movie, and also i loved Munes Design, he is a little fawn

Operation Finale: Wow, that was an amazing film, absolutely superb. Not at all like the trailers. Seriously, what is it and trailers where everything has to either be an high stakes action movie or a romantic comedy? but this film, spectacular.

The House With A Clock In Its Walls: A Neat little movie. Corny, but i liked it. like, its a kids movie in the same way A Wrinkle In Time is, but this one was little less disney-fied in the way that they needed to have this overarching lesson of empowerment, and more “this is a kids movie to enjoy, like Halloweentown”

Bad times at the El Royale: neat movie, somewhat engaging, kept losing focus at the slow parts... Liked the Chapter title cards... Can't remember who that "important person" was supposed to be.... I think I may have missed it...

Outlaw king: I liked it! Way better than Braveheart! Also.... Cpine was not that naked.... Butt....

Erramentari, the blacksmith and the devil: based on Basque folklore which I know nothing of, but it looked neat. It's also originally in basque but netflix has the English dub over. AND HOLY SWEET JESUS I KNOW THIS MOVIE IS SUPPOSED TO BE SCARY BUT THE VOICE OVERS ARE SO FUCKING FUNNNNNNNNYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!

Dragon heart: I didnt like it, there were better movies I could have seen, I'm not gonna reach for this one again...

The Black Klansman: Damn, I might very well be speechless. That was a Fantastic Movie, came at you like a bag of Bricks, and the ending when it went straight from a cross burning to the 2017 neo nazi rallies, to trumps “good people on both sides” speech, to everything that happened in 2017. The movie did NOT fuck around with anything. God Bless.

What we do in the Shadows: that was an enjoyable movie. I didn't quite like the reality show format but it was funny!

Overlord: That was a great movie! it had decently fast pacing, which is good that it was only an hour and forty-eight minutes long... They Plot-Ex-Machina’d alot of the movie, like the wounded soldier feeling fine for the main firefight, then remembering he was supposed to be wounded all of a sudden. I watched it with a friend who saw one character, turned to me and said “He’s cute, i hope he doesnt die” one (1) second before a landmine went off. Also, Ghouls created by science rather by supernatural means.

For the Love of Spock: -cries like a big baby-

Next Gen: screams of anti-tech ideals... Also.... Damn...... They are channeling the "addiction to iPhones" angle man, like, villianous angle...

Small Foot: Not bad, At least it was a Short movie, or at least it didnt feel like it was dragging on. The Songs were great though, I actually liked them and at least they were written for the movie and not like, a song that already existed...

The Spy who Dumped Me: I rented it through iTunes and it gave some Ukrainian nuts swangin in my face...

The Nun: it was okay, but let maurice theirult be a lesson; u see some creepy haunted shit, you grab a cross and you walk away. You dont go back to play hero, cuz then you get possessed.

Kin: there is a line in the movie that says "you got a decade of bad decisions under your belt" and I feel like that sums of this movies plot points...

Crazy Rich Asians: that was so gooooood! I don't normally go for romcoms, but ppl had been praising the film, and I actually liked it. I'm glad I saw the majong scene explain before I actually watched the scene, because it felt a shit ton more powerful.

Spider-Man, Into the Spiderverse: AMAZING! INCREDIBLE! the animation was TOP NOTCH, like, omg!

A simple favor: I didnt like it... It tried to be both a thriller and what seemed like a parody of a thriller.

Predator, 2018: I kinda liked it, it was a mindless action movie, and the ending left it open for a badass sequal. I havent seen the other predator movies so I have no idea if this is in faith for the series, but im guessing yes.

The Martian: It was cool and chill, I liked it, also Mark Watney cussing out a government agency via a hundred thousand dollar communications outlet is.... Mood.

47 meters down: 2hrs of one woman having an absolute panic attack and being right to worry about sketchy diving boats.

2036 Origin Unknown: kinda what I feel like 2001 a space Oddessey wouldve been like if I had actually watched that movie... Oh shit the Borg!

2001 A Space Oddessey: Have I ever told y'all that I dont like Kubrick or his movies? His movies are the epitome of that pretentious art school boi style that just does too much and tries to pretend it's more than it is and sweet merciful god why is this one 2 and a half hours long! I'm 40 minutes in and I have a head ache from the over ise of classical music and boring slow pace of the movie. 2001 a space Oddessey is 2 and a half hours long and only has 1 hr of actual relevant film... The other 1 1/2 is just unending, weirdly colored space shots, two color inversion shots of planets and eyes, theremin and flute noises, and classical music set to nothingness

RAMPAGE: a 30ft alligator showed up about an hour and 10minutes into the movie and the first reaction was "well that sucks" and it killed me on sight. The movie is awesome! In am so glad I picked this as my last movie of 2018.

why is everyone who’s newly diagnosed with ADHD act like it its the worst thing to ever happen to them and they have a very woe is me attitude about it, i saw some people even equating it to actual physical disabilities. and as someone with both ADHD and a physical disability. fuck off? i was hospitalized recently and it reminded me just how NIGHTMARISH that shit can be. I was seatbelted to a chair for hours on end unable to move or do anything but watch 5 different tv channels while they weaned me off my epilepsy medication and EEG’s HURT the whole process of getting them , the probes on your head is painful

I know im probably not living past the age of 50 because of the ammount of pills i take or one day im just going to hit my head a little too hard and never wake up. i’ve accepted that. its why im always in a rush to finish my stories while im fuckign alive.

I understand you have a long list of these questions, but figured I'd get in line. I want to adopt a retired greyhound racer. What health problems do you see with them? I've also heard they are especially sensitive to anesthesia due to their low body fat. Do you have a protocol you find is particularly safe for them? The rescues have too many conflicting answers. One even claims they never should be put under anesthesia ever, even for dentals, because they "just die!" Which is ridiculous.

Oh vetlings, I have a lot to sayabout Greyhounds.

I adore these dogs, and am glad to workwith them, but don’t specifically condone organised greyhound racing.Most of these dogs like to run, I would have no problem with themrunning around a track casually for fun, but once prize-money isinvolved it becomes too tempting to push limits, to cheat, to cutcorners, to overbreed, and this leads to poor welfare outcomes fortoo many dogs.

Please note the disclaimer that theseposts are about the breed from a veterinary viewpoint as seenin clinical practice, i.e. the problems we are faced with. It’s notthe be-all and end-all of the breed and is not to make a judgementabout whether the breed is right for you. If you are asking for anopinion about these animals in a veterinary setting, that is what youwill get. It’s not going to be all sunshine and cupcakes, and isnot intended as a personal insult against your favorite breed. Thisis general advice for what is common, often with a scientificconsensus but sometimes based on personal experiences, and is not aguarantee of what your dog is going to encounter in their life.

Also please note that this will be a Long Post.

General conditions of Greyhounds

Whatever theirhistory all greyhounds have a few things in common. Most of themstruggle to sit, they tend to either stand or lie down. Their paintolerance is interesting, walking in with a broken bone but screamingat a tiny needle prick. They like to feel someone touching theirhead. There are also a few conditions common to them, regardless oftheir lifestyle or upbringing. They are one of the very few breedsthat I think it’s not an exaggeration to say you benefit from seeinga vet with experience in this breed. We have a lot to get through, soI’ll try to keep the basics fairly short.

Bloat,(Gastric Dilatation Volvulus) is more common in the big males, butcan occur in any greyhound due to their deep chest. Delicate, pickyeaters seem less at risk.

Greyhoundsare generally very athletic, but they can and do develop Dilated Cardiomyopathy. While theyhave generally reached a reasonable age before developing thiscondition,

Pannuscan affect any greyhound, and this chronic eye condition is generallymade worse by UV light exposure. Once diagnosed it’s not too hard tocontrol with medication but it is a long term condition. This is themost likely reason you would see a greyhound wearing doggy sunglassesor ‘Doggles’.

Greyhoundscan also get Progressive Retinal Atrophy,which may manifest as 'night blindness’ first, though this seems tobe less common lately.

Greyhounds,perhaps surprisingly for all the raw food they seem to get whenracing, have generally poor Dental Health. Despite being bigdogs that are generally pretty tolerant, most of them don’t like tochew. They’re delicate chewers and won’t necessarily gnaw a bone.

Speaking of bones,these dogs get Osteosarcoma (Bone cancer) fairly readily. Thiscancer has a biphasic age pattern. Basically it usually occurs indogs around 2 years of age, and dogs around 8-10 years of age. It’sall kinds of bad, every time and there’s not much else to say aboutit, other than the life expectancy is short. I’ve talked about itpreviously.

Of purely cosmeticconcern, greyhounds also commonly develop pattern baldness.Typically the affected areas are the thighs and ventral neck, andthere are a few possible reasons for this. It might be genetic, itmight be nutritional or stress related, or it might be due to bloodvessel compression under due to large muscle groups underneath theskin. This generally bothers the owners more than the dog.

Greyhounds oftenhave thin skin, and while this doesn’t necessarily bother thedogs most of the time it certainly bothers me as the surgeon! Some ofthese poor dogs will seem to tear themselves open with any littlescrape, so be careful of the suture materials you choose. They areprone to pressure sores with poor bandage care too.

And associatedwith their thin skin, some of these dogs develop “Happy Tail,”which is basically a chronic injury on the tail tip which wont healbecause the blessed dog insists on wagging it against solid objectsall the time, despite thepain and injury. They can’t help it. They’re too happy, hence thename of the wound. This takes creative bandaging or the occasionalpartial amputation to fix.

Conditionsassociated with Racing

Mostgreyhounds are reared for the race track and it’s not until laterthat they’re identified as being 'unsuitable’ for the track. Somegreyhounds will be 'retired’ early, before they ever get to run, butmany will be retired either with injuries or because they just don’twin. Greyhounds that have been retired due to injury are notnecessarily lame, they may have healed well enough to do normal dogactivities, just not enough to win races.

Track legis probably the most common 'racetrack injury’ we see. It’s basicallya swelling on the inside of the tibia below the knee, caused by thegreyhound continually hitting its hind leg with a front leg as itruns around the track in the same direction all the time. They’reusually not painful, and generally go away when the greyhound is notrestricted to always running in a very large circle.

Cornsare hard thickenings in the bottom on a footpad, either secondary totrauma, foreign objects (grit) or papilomas. They start out small butgrow with time, and are painful. It’s like having a stone in yourshoe all the timeand many greyhounds will become footsore because of it. Affectedgreyhounds are often reluctant to walk on harder surfaces, andanti-inflammatories doesn’t seem to make much difference. We treatthem by paring them out and waiting patiently.

Gritin foot padscan cause corns, and can cause similar lameness to corns, but willshow up on Xrays if you use high enough detail. These are fragmentsof sand or other foreign objects that have become embedded in thefoot pads while running. Greyhounds are particularly lame with thisinjury and often don’t respond fully to anti-inflammatories. Theyneed surgery to remove these pieces of grit, and the surgery canresult in corns.

A Fracturedhock, carpus or metacarpal/metatarsal might be a racing careerending injury, but not necessarily a life ending one. Depending onthe extent of the fracture the greyhound may have no lameness with awalk or light run, or may end up with a completely fused joint.Generally these dogs are only retired to pet homes if they can stillget themselves around pain free.

A Split Webbingis an injury to the web of skin between toes. When this skin tearsit’s nearly impossible to get it to heal if both layers are torn, sothe recommended technique is to split it all the way to the base ofthe toes and remove the webbing. This doesn’t seem to bother the dogsat all, and prevents it from re-tearing over and over again as itheals.

Maxillary Fractures are a rare injury of long-nosed dogs who are also klutzes and tripover, slamming their nose into a fence or the ground. This upwardsforce can fracture the upper jaw, just in front of the canine teeth.These fractures may be non displaced, causing little more than ablood nose and needing pain relief and soft food for a few weeks, orthey may be loose and need wiring. They are fairly uncommon overall,but it seems to be greyhounds that get them most.

Associatedwith racing greyhound husbandry, Neosporainfection from raw, infected beef consumption (and similar Toxoplasmafrom kangaroo or sheep) is more common in greyhounds due to theirhigh prevalence of raw meat being fed. It may present as anythingfrom back pain to blindness, and you can lose whole litters to theseparasites.

There are a number of odd AssortedSports therapy things thatgreyhounds might be subjected to, from particular lineaments beingused, ultrasound therapy, chiropractic treatment or 'seeing themuscle men’, some of the 'treatments’ racing greyhounds are exposedto seem more like hope and witchcraft than medicine. These dogs mayalso have been supplemented with all sorts of things during theirracing days, including iron and B12 as the most common supplements.You don’t necessarily know what a dog has or hasn’t been given in itsracing days, but most will be little consequence, if any, after a fewmonths.

Racing greyhounds are also known for afew particular metabolic weirdnesses. Exercise associatedheart conditions, exercise associated epilepsy, water diabetes (likea temporary diabetes insipidus), rhabdomyolysis and acidosis are themost well known.

Anaesthesia

Now, this is aninteresting difference. Greyhounds area bit different when it comes to anaesthetics. Most vet students willeasily recall that barbituate anaesthetics aren’t recommended insighthounds due to their proportionally low body fat (and very youngor very fat dogs for the same reasons), but greyhounds also seem tohave a different liver metabolism that makes handling this class ofdrugs more difficult. Fortunately there are many other options thesedays.

Thewhole 'they die under anaesthesia’ thing is…sort of true. If youput them under anaesthetic when they’re under 24 hours off the racetrack then they tend to…well… die. But when these dog’s have beenat rest for at least 24 hours there doesn’t seem to be a particularincrease risk of death specifically.

Thesedogs are prone to both hypothermia and hyperthermia underanaesthetic, and in life in general.

Theyare prone to rapid wake ups from anaesthesia, which is not fun whenyou have a 30kg dog thrashing about and freaking out. For this reasonhigher premed doses seem to help if you’re using an alfaxaloneprotocol, medetomedine/butorphanol works well for sedation and weusually use xylazine/ketamine/atropine for orthopaedics. I will notbe posting dose rates on this blog, but rest assured greyhounds areperfectly able to have an anaesthetic. They’ve got to get theirdental disease treated somehow!

Compared to other breeds

Generallygreyhounds are considered pretty healthy. They’re not free ofproblems, but their common problems are differentto common problems in other breeds. Greyhounds have one of the lowestincidences of hip dysplasia in purebred dogs, and rarely develop thesame common structural issues we see in other breeds.

Theirblood results are often a little different. A greyhound in racingcondition will have a higher PCV, and a pet greyhound may keep thisin their retired life. They often have a lower platelet count, byaround 20-25% or so, and may have a relatively low T4. A low T4 canbe normal for a greyhound, and hypothyroidism shouldn’t be diagnosedwithout a TSH level.

Theyare, in general a little more prone to being clingy or developingseparation anxiety. This is generally because most of these dogs areraised in big groups in a kennel situation, and may not get to betruly 'alone’ until they’re in a pet home. Some dogs just need a fewweeks of being spoiled with TLC to adjust, some dogs need somepharmaceutical assistance for a while. Some dogs only really relax ifthey have a companion, but it depends on the individual.

Sothatis the greyhound breed from a veterinary viewpoint in a nutshell.Some of these points are brief because I only want to give you anoverview, but I do recommend vet students spend some time in agreyhound practice, even if you don’t want to work with them or theracing industry, because the musculoskeletal exam of a greyhound isso much more thorough and I understood hocks and carpi much better ingreyhounds than I ever did in horses.
