He relishes in the familiarity of it, the relaxed nature of them both. lightly he takes her hands in his, squeezing gently at her words   —   flashing what he knows is that trademark charming smile of his. tone joking, he teases “ i'm not sure you'd be able to, even if you wanted. ”

if kai wasn't there, she imagines she'd get there herself, one way or another. but in true odette fashion, she resigns when it gets tricky, and she passes the burden along. only now, they're not in a situation quite so heavy, and it's predictability feels more comforting than embittered.

  〝 i'm not going to take advantage of you, kai. 〞  cheeky, and shoulder to shoulder, odette somehow finds a way to get even closer.

liquored up, walls often loose their footing, a guarded woman becomes one not so. an apprehension dismissed in favour of familiarity … because it's an image reminiscent of the one from years ago. before they made that leap, before they crashed and burned. and it fuels her more than it deters.
