There's a file called "sorrowroute" in DTWM with dialogues that aren't in the game. What was planned for this route ? Will its content be used for the happy ending ?

You spotted some of the leftover stuff! Yep, the story originally had two branches, Sorrow and Anger (or was it Fury?). Anger contained all of the things that are currently in the game. Sorrow was meant to contain the happy ending and one more bad ending. Certain things that are left in the sorrowroute texts have been edited as I write (for example, since I wrote that part of the game earlier on, I believe Dahlia refers to Owner as Observer instead?). So while I did modify it, yes, some of what is there will be used for the happy ending route.

You have the eeriest feeling whenever you see that little door ever since you moved into the pink palace but you ignore it and push on just doing your best to get comfortable in your new place.

Easier said than done though since strange things keep happening, first with estranged neighbors, lack of money and food, and now this little doll with button eyes that looks exactly like you appears on your doorstep. Well whatever, the doll is harmless enough and while that tiny door you've been ignoring is odd, you can ignore it.

It's so tantalizing though and you're confident that the weird key with a button on it just has to open it... And fortunately, or maybe unfortunately it does. The door opens almost and a tunnel is formed almost like it's alive but you've already gone through the trouble of finding the key so may as well go through the door. You crawl through the tunnel and one you reach the other side you're almost positive that you've gone insane. It's literally just your house... Wait what? You want to think it's your house but the slight aesthetic changes make you less and less certain by the second.

Walking around this place almost feels wrong, you're confident that someone lives here, but that someone isn't yourself and then you see him. It's friend! How relieving... No wait. Your friend doesn't have b..b..buttons. Aren't they lovely, he did them himself, he's your other friend silly. He's so glad you're here, he's been waiting for your sweetheart, this place wasn't the same without you. He even cooked one of your favorite meals for you which, with how your wallet is doing right now is such a gift you don't even question how he knew.

Ok so friend absolutely already stalks you so it's no surprise that your other friend does as well. He's just more sneaky about it and dare I say more diligent. Because by the time your curiosity gets the better of you and you venture through the door, he'll know everything about you, even the miniscule details. Anything to impress you, anything to keep you in awe, anything to make you stay.

He'll constantly lure you away with promises of treasures and treats and games to play and that he'll always love you. He always cooks your favorites and loves to surprise you with handmade gifts just for his sweetheart and of course he knows your size silly~

"Friend" always loves when you visit and always has something fun planned for you to do with him (even if that may include something a little more lewd) because he loves nothing more than spending time with you, you sustain him, and that's not a joke.

Call him dramatic if you want but he's always so serious when he casually mentions that he'll "die without you" and that he wishes he could "keep you forever" but why would you ever want to leave this place anyway.

Be warned though, you shouldn't dangle your freedom over him like a toy because he'll surely grasp it, he mentions it in passing but you can stay here forever if that's what you really want sweetheart.

"You do love it here with me, don't you sweetheart? What if you could stay."

It's almost not a question, almost but he waits to see how you react anyway and of course you agree without hesitation, because you do love it here, and why wouldn't you? It's such an intricate and delicate trap made just for you. So naturally you indulge in his request wondering what it would take for you to stay and you swear those button eyes turn pink.

He says it's easier to show you rather than tell you and presents you gift box. But you're hesitant because what could possibly be in that box that could keep you here with him? Nevertheless you open it, and immediately feel the atmosphere shift. He slinks behind you resting his hands on your shoulders as if to encourage you to follow through as if you agreed already which you definitely haven't.

"For you, my little doll. I'll make sure it's quick and painless of course and you can even pick whatever color you want, although I'd like honored if you chose black to match with me."

You feel like time had stood still. Is he actually discussing sewing buttons in your eyes so casually? Is he insane, why would you ever agree to do something like that?

Your silence says plenty and your other friend understands, it's a big decision so why don't you sleep on it sweetheart, you'll feel better in the morning.

Then... Suit Saeran is less dangerous than Ray?

Let's start off right at the gate and make something abundantly clear to everyone. Ray, Suit Saeran and Unknown are dangerous. But, I've got to warn you there's a major distinction between the threats you'll face when you're with one of them. I wouldn't say that one of them is more dangerous than the other because what's terrifying to someone might not be scary to another.

The threat level differs between them for a specific reason, and while someone might say that one is dangerous in comparison to another, I have to disagree strongly. You aren't safer with one because the other might value you in a different way. Case in point, people assume that Ray is safe because of his gentle facade. Not all of his niceties are for the sake of cruelty or evil, but it is manipulation, whether he's doing it on purpose or not.

Pointedly, one of the reasons why I coined the term Danger Ray in this fandom a few years ago is because of that misconception. Far too many people assume Ray is safe because he wants you safe. I love him the most out of all the Saerans', I'm biased when it comes down to his representation, but it's important to me that people are aware of his nature. How far he'll go to keep you with him.

It doesn't matter if his definition of your safety is keeping you like a prince/ss doll in a dollhouse, it's easy for people to disregard that because he smiles and treats you with a distinct warmth that you won't get from Suit Saeran or Unknown. Easy to ignore that when there's so much focus on his desire to be with you, and his struggle with his self-worth. Lean too far into that aspect and you'll miss the fact that—

He was the one who drugged V with no remorse in V's route. That wasn't Suit Saeran who did it. He did it. The game makes a point of letting you see that. He was more afraid of what Rika would do if he went too far than he was over what V felt. Sure, there's a part of him that hates pain and misery, but he's too consumed with elixir and a lot of cult programming to care.

Like, yes, my blog title is MarshmallowProtection because I think he's a cutiepie who needs to be protected, but let's be real if you told me to weigh my odds of not getting elixired right off the bat by deciding which one of them to be alone with? I'd probably go with Suit Saeran, believe it or not. That's not because Suit Saeran is less dangerous, I'm just well aware of what Ray is capable of.

Ray is infatuated with you and will not hesitate to correct you if he needs to. So, yes, Ray is dangerous because he won't stop to get the thing he wants the most. If you need to be corrected, you will be the one that's corrected.

Whether it be from taking you from the cafe to ensure you're with him forever, correcting you on Day 4 for not being able to play his game right, taking you away to play after Rika said it would be fine, or what have you. Ray can fix you, take you apart, and rebuild you and it's fine by him. As long as he can have you, he'll do whatever it takes to make it happen. That's why you need to be cautious of him.

The reason why Ray is dangerous is that he's deceptive. You don't see it coming if you're not looking for it.

But, if we're talking about Unknown, that's very different. What's the threat with Unknown, you may ask? Well, it's largely contrasted with what Ray wants. Unknown doesn't care for you. He doesn't love you. He just needs someone to be a little sheep and follow his orders like a lamb to the slaughter. He needs a willing fool to walk into a den of oh-so-very hungry lions and play the part.

You're his new eyes, he says so himself in the game and on the title screen. That's all you are to him. A prop... a tool... a pawn. You're fun to play with, but he doesn't need you like Ray does. He gets you like someone's shiny toy he stole and holds you up to make them cry as soon as they realize they're not getting it back. So, what value does that make you to him? He's not gentle. He's not kind.

He could use you for whatever he wanted and then throw you away.

The reason why Unknown is dangerous is because you mean nothing to him and he wouldn't care if you were thrown into the basement. He doesn't have a route for a reason. He's too far gone to care about any living thing. He just cares about revenge... which is why when he gets revenge in a Bad Ending, he'll get rid of Seven or V, and then himself. That's his entire life. Revenge and then nothing but the cold embrace of death.

He has no time to give a damn about what happens to you. Sure, we see him toy with you in the Christmas DLC, but that's just a part of a game. You're crushing the RFA... you're making Saeyoung and V look like monsters... you've given him a gift and he's going to reward you... well, he'll reward you until he gets bored, anyway. You don't mean the world to him. You're a plaything with purpose until he gets something better.

Ray and Unknown are different kinds of dangerous. You decide which one is worse for you on a personal level. Do you think it's scarier if the character you're with tells you upfront that you're going to be thrown away, or when a character is too deceptive for you to realize that you can't escape him no matter what? What's scarier? The awareness of what might happen or the lack, therefore?

So, that leaves us with Suit Saeran. What threat does he pose if I've only been able to tell you why Ray and Unknown are dangerous so far? He does pose a threat, but his threat is the miserable kind. The kind that destroys him and you in one false swoop. The kind of threat that seems scary for you until you realize what's actually going on in the moment.

What transgressions does he commit against you? The worst of his threats are verbal and physical domination. His bark is larger than his bite in most cases, screaming and shouting at you, using his size (if you're shorter than him) to intimidate you to lure you into feeling like there's no hope whatsoever to overpower him or fight back.

He keeps food away from you thinking that the more he takes away, the more likely you are to give up and realize that you're going to end up like Ray. You're going to die because Rika doesn't want you to be there anymore. Suit Saeran woke up because Ray was suffering in the basement for the crime of loving you, and he knew he had to go take care of that. He tried to snuff it out and break it so Rika couldn't destroy Ray completely or you.

Dominating you isn't about trying to destroy you for the sake of it. He isn't even fully aware of this fact, either. That's why he continues to act so back and forth when he's with you, afraid and angry when the things he's doing don't hurt you or break you. He's trying to prove the pain he suffered had a purpose.

The weak die. The strong live on. There's no other way to survive.

If that isn't true, he's become a monster for nothing.

He never had to be a monster to stop his demons from trying to kill him if that's the case. Because that's who he is, he became a barking dog to keep the larger dogs away. The scary thing about Suit Saeran is that he's afraid of himself and his anger. He doesn't know what he wants and this affects everything around him.

He wants to punish you and Ray for being in love because it caused the torture, and yet, he wants to know about you because if being vulnerable was this "bad", why would Ray risk everything for you? It isn't good to be tortured... to be beaten... and Ray knows that.

The pain he and Saeran have shared is nothing to laugh about. Why in the world would Ray risk everything for you? What is it about you?

His struggle during the route to figure you out is his entire arc. But, because the problem stems from his fear of being vulnerable and weak... you see him hurt himself and everyone around him because he's dazed and confused like an animal in a bear trap that's trying to shake it off before the humans come.

[Bad Ending 2 is a prime example of when this goes too far.]

By the time Suit Saeran realizes what he wants and needs, in the worst-case scenario, he's broken you in BE2 and there's no getting you back. The scariest thing about Suit Saeran isn't the fact that he can bite you or deny you food. It's the fact that his inability to have a chance to figure himself out in a safe environment becomes his (and your) very undoing.

His lack of awareness is the dangerous part. I don't think his torture methods are scary... I think what should scare everybody is the fact that if the right situation isn't triggered, he will break you and that'll break him. I'd call him cornered... and there's nothing scarier than a man who is cornered and might do anything. You have no way to be sure of what will happen to you. That's dangerous in its own way.

So, who is more dangerous out of the three?

All of them.

make what social media for dogs would look like. make a wall of funny stock photos. make a dictionary of words you keep forgetting. write some basic javascript and make your favorite pngs bounce around the screen. fuck dude keep an unpublished journal in html + css, that'd be awesome too. putting yourself online isn't smthn everyone wants to do, and you don't have to have anything public to exercise and develop deeper digital literacy :]

like especially when you are learning, in my experience you're not gonna immediately make smthn that you even necessarily feel is satisfyingly representative of you, so like. why make that the focus.

a lot of creative outlets and hobbies didn't click for me properly until i started coding, and like. i dunno. just try it. do stupid things that don't matter. i feel a lotta ppl start coding cuz they wanna make a really crazy cool vn or rpg or so on. and i think you should hold onto that ambition. but also remember like. you can have fun and toys too. fun and toys is kinda how you get to the level of making a full game.

Bouncing around between a few more things before deciding what to settle on.

I made it through about as much of Cypher as I could before I couldn't hold the entire puzzles in my head anymore, and that was enough. I really like the idea of it and probably would've done stuff out on paper when I was younger, and I love Matthew Brown's earlier puzzle games, but I just don't think this is for me at this point in my life.

CARS is short and weird and about what you'd expect from the same people who made stuff like Plug & Play. More of an interactive art piece than a game. The cars crave death. They must go in the hole.

I like the look of From Ashes, Bloom, and the animation of the creature is pretty satisfying, but when it comes down to it it's a tower defense game, and I don't like tower defense games.

It took me until this week to get around to trying Owlboy even though I think I got it in a bundle forever ago. It's pretty. I'll give it that much. There's not really anything wrong with the hour or so I played of it, but it really didn't do much to grab me. The epitome of "it's fine I guess", and I probably won't go back to it.

GwenBlade is a mess, to be polite. There are some interesting ideas in there, but it very much feels like a single person who had no idea how to make a game decided to make a game and learned as they went along. And if that's true they actually did a pretty good job, all things considered, but it's still kinda rough to play. I want it to be better than it is, because it comes so close sometimes, but it's not.

The main feeling I got from A Little to the Left was "hey, what if Unpacking was worse?" which wouldn't be hard to do while still being pretty good because Unpacking is amazing. The whole hour I spent with it I kept thinking "maybe I should play Unpacking again instead" though, which is not a good sign. It's not bad, and there's nothing fundamentally wrong with it, I'm just not really feeling it.

VOYAGER is almost a game, and I don't mean that in a negative way. It's more of a chill vibes toy where you nudge the orbit of your little space probe around to "discover" different planets, and mostly it just makes fun geometric curves by drawing out the orbits and plays good music at you, which works for me.

And Scarlet Nexus, another thing I got in a bundle a while ago, is way less polished than I expected from the trailers and stuff. I play more than enough VNs to be totally fine with VN-style storytelling and cutscenes, but the way they're presented just feels worse to me than a more typical VN presentation. The combat seems like it has potential though, and the premise behind the world and story could definitely be going somewhere interesting. We'll see eventually, I guess.

Between this and other stuff in recent posts that I've been trying out briefly to see what sticks, I think of the ones that weren't so short that I finished them in one sitting the ones I'll probably be spending more time with/hopefully finishing are, in no particular order, Scarlet Nexus, Wylde Flowers (which I think I've spent the most time with out of all of these and like the most), 9th Sentinel Sisters, Star Ocean: The Divine Force, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and maybe Ender Lilies.

Have a thought I had based on listening to Monster by Meg and Dia (funnily enough) and thinking about some of the horror games we got in the late 2010s like D.D.L.C and F.N.A.F World. I feel like I also have to give a spoiler warning for D.D.L.C so this is that spoiler warning! So, you know how those games I mentioned toyed with the idea of one or more characters being so sentient or self-aware that they actively interact with the player or even manipulate the game itself in some way? For example, when Monika literally learns how to manipulate the game code and at one point deletes Sayori, Yuri and Natsuki from the game files so she could have you all to herself because she wasn't given a romantic ending of her own originally. Oh, she also made Yuri and Sayori kill themselves (due to making Yuri a yandere and having Sayori's depression ramp up exponentially) along with making Natsuki become an unrecognizable glitched out mess before she deleted them too 🫢.

So, my thought is this concept being applied to a slasher film. I already know that you're thinking, and no I'm not talking about "self-aware" movies like S.cream, where the characters are actually only slightly more genre savvy than most horror movie characters, and the characters themselves aren't really THAT self-aware when you think about it. The characters in movies like S.cream still ACT like typical horror movie characters at the end of the day. They don't really gain any real sentience or self-awareness and they don't really interact with the audience or try to tamper with the movie in any way like what I'm referring to. S.cream stans please don't come for me, I literally had to look up the difference between true self-awareness and being genre savvy to make this point and I didn't mean to single it out specifically, it was the first film that came to mind when thinking about self-aware type horror movies. No, what I'm talking about is the victims or other characters of the movie having true self-awareness to know that they're the victims and they've been repeating their cycle of being killed over and over again due to the viewer repeatedly watching their favorite horror movie or horror franchise of choice; then doing things like breaking the fourth wall to try and convince the viewer to try and help them in some way (like turning the movie off, rewinding or forwarding to specific parts so the characters can try and "change the script" so to speak, etc.). So, in essence the characters of the film aren't only fighting for their lives against the actual person trying to kill them, but they also try to change the script and control the movie itself so it can work in their favor, along with begging and pleading for the viewer's help/sympathy/mercy to help them survive their encounters before their life clock runs out.

Also imagine the characters fully looking at you before they finally die and BLAMING YOU for their deaths, instead of the actual slasher that killed them because you either chose to do nothing in helping them and watched the movie as intended or there really was NOTHING you could do to help them no matter how much the characters changed things around. Like imagine how fucking freaky that would be. I know that this concept would be VERY difficult, and dare I say damn near IMPOSSIBLE, to fully adapt in a movie format or hell ANY format that's not a VN, or a video game, or even one of those "choose your own adventure" YouTube videos. But it's still a fun concept that I would have personally loved to see in a movie.

Digimon Cyber Sleuth ! (review ?)

(this post was made by a french girl who wants to improve her english by posting here, nice advice are always welcome).

I've always been a Pokémon fan, I've played most of the games and I never thaught about Digimon, even If I was obsessed with the anime (in it's horrible french translation) when I was under 10 (I'm 28 now T.T).

Jaden Animation made her video and I was like "Oh wait, there are video games about Digimon ?" (I thought It was just a toy thing, I don't know why).

I didn't do the same mistake as Jaden and started with Digimon Cyber Sleuth. First of all, I'm so glad it's on PC (steam) so I can watch my stream or be on discord at the same time ! I'm never motivated to turn on my switch or ps4 for some reason ^^'

The complet edition was 10€ so my broke ass was happy (I'm hopping my brother gift me the last pokémon for chrismas so he can complet the pokedex <o<)

I've only played 16h and I love it so much. I have a cold right now and I'm still at my desk paying even if everything hurts. But Digimon are weird. They have so many digivolution I can keep up @_@ also I'm sad there are no romance possible (the vn vibe was giving me hope...).
