hey rin, a friend of mine enjoys composing music digitally and has a lot of respect for you as someone with more experience with that sort of thing. he has a hard time convincing the people around him to listen to the things he makes, in both the "finding an audience" way and "getting the people around him to give him their opinion on something he's working on way," and he wanted me to ask you if you could speak on your own experiences with those problems and how you've dealt with them. less related, he was also curious about your inspirations for the music that you make. i know this is a lot to cover, so if it would be easier for you to speak with him directly then please let me know
so I'll open by saying that, as far as people who can give good advice on this go, I'm probably not one of those. a lot of what I do only works because of some specific problems with my brain that are oddly adaptive to this sort of thing
that being said, this is a bit of the "tough love" kind of advice for surviving as an artist, so I'll make a second reblog for the second half of the question
this is either advice that will work or a ramble that will lead your friend to making his life unbearable, so look before you leap
-
The Easy Section, or "You've Gotta Be a Bit of a Tradie"
let's go over the business stuff quickly before I start rambling at length about the boring stuff
learn to love the work itself. "find a job you enjoy and you'll never work a day in your life" is garbage, but creative work really is the one area where you should double down on this. kick back and bump your own album on release day, thinking about how every second of it is something that didn't exist before you put it together. this is what's gonna keep you above water when the wind is dead
get on bandcamp. there is nowhere better for small musicians right now. bandcamp is basically the last remaining website with an effective suggestion algorithm that caters to people who want to actively engage with music and buy it
consider getting on instagram. in the majority of places you're likely to live if you're reading this, the local music scene is on instagram. probably don't use your personal instagram for this
consider getting on soundcloud. you won't make sales through soundcloud, because it's a streaming-focused site (more on that in a moment) with a focus on passive listening, but it's pretty decent for networking, especially with digital music production. soundcloud is linkedin for deadbeats
stay off spotify. streaming generally isn't worth the trouble these days unless you're playing concerts or are otherwise already established. if you aren't uttering the words "you can find me on..." more than once a month, it's probably not worth pursuing a spotify presence to end that sentence with
self-promote. if you have platforms, use them. find the subreddit for your genre and post yourself on the self-promo day. consider posting some bandcamp album codes when you do this, not just so you can get word of mouth, but because someone having an album in their collection means you effectively have a permanent zero-cost advertisement for your music which will only show itself to people who are verifiably looking at something similar. companies pay dizzying sums for ads that couldn't dream of being this targetted. this is a big reason why bandcamp is THE place to be for small musicians
cross-promote and collab. work with your friends. if you don't have musician friends, go make some and then help each other out. "independent" music is a misnomer
blind yourself to the metrics. do not look at engagement metrics. pay them no mind at all. don't look at them unless you're trying to see how effective a specific, deliberate course of action was and already know what you want to find
remember that strangers are unknowable. people do things for arbitrary reasons. if you don't have someone giving you written feedback, don't make any assumptions at all about why they did something. skipped tracks and minimum-price pwyws mean nothing at all
present your stuff in a way that gives it context. why should someone care about your stuff? give them a reason. carve out an hour to really work on a nice album cover, go the extra mile and include track-by-track narrative with your dungeon synth album, or just describe what you're expecting people to buy. I firmly believe that NOMAD/VIRTUE was successful in large part because of its presentation
gimmick. gimmick gimmick gimmick. discount codes are more fun than automatic discounts, free album codes are more fun than free albums, contests are more fun than giveaways, so on so forth. lacking any physical goodies to bundle in, you should still endeavour to give people Something To Do that makes them feel like they're really engaging with your music
zero expectations, zero overhead. do not rely on the whims of complete strangers to justify whether or not you end up in the red. if you ever find yourself saying something like "I can afford to pay for a session musician because I'll just make it back" you can't afford to pay for a session musician. you're probably never getting bailed out if you eat a loss, so try not to put yourself in a situation where you can eat a loss to begin with
someone else's expectations, someone else's overhead. if someone else is paying you to make this music for a soundtrack or something, if (and ONLY if) you have the money in your hand and know you have it, you're no longer gambling. at this point, you can start to look at expenses as investment
now onto the less fun stuff. here's where I ramble for like an hour at you.
-
if there's one thing I've really had hammered in over my decade-odd as a somewhat commercial artist (in all the disciplines I've worked with, which is most of them), it's that you have to be a bit of a bitch about it sometimes
that nagging fear in the back of your head that you're annoying? it's stopping you from doing what you need to do: annoy people
with that being said, this next section is kind of...
The Rough Section, or "You've Gotta Be a Little Hard-headed"
at the end of the day, you'll often find that you are your only advocate, and that means you kinda have to get your foot slammed in a few doors if that means holding them open. this also unfortunately means that you've gotta convince yourself you're pretty good. you don't have to think you're great, but confidence is a trade skill
the last opinion people see before the first time consciously engaging with your work (which here means "the thing that primes them for how they feel about it") is yours
which brings us to the first uncomfy rule
absolutely no cutting yourself down before anyone else even gets a swing
you can be modest if you want (you don't have to), but you absolutely cannot prime people to see the flaws in your work. if 50% of people are discerning enough to notice a flaw, why make that number 100%? what do you gain from that?
if something isn't as finished as you'd have liked it to be, but you've pushed it out the door anyway (which you will sometimes have to do), you absolutely cannot prime people to consider it unfinished
if the thing is still being worked on, there's nothing wrong with being forthcoming about that, but the fastest way to make someone think of something as "inferior product" when they otherwise would never have reached that conclusion is by telling them it is
and that, of course, leads us into a bit of an inversion of the previous rule
absolutely do not take the majority of your validation from strangers
doing this is bad for a million reasons, but I see the worst of this in visual arts, where artists double down on what gets them the most engagements and lay themselves at the mercy of complete strangers who have no actual investment in them
of course, it's normal to desire validation and approval from people you respect, but if you put yourself in a position where it's possible to enter a negative feedback loop that crystallises into you no longer making art from the default response of neutral apathy from strangers, it's not a matter of when: it's going to happen to you one day
so what's the move here? spend 8 years making music you don't release like you're in a compressed time chamber? probably not. I did it that way, but I didn't get much out of it, so you probably won't either
the actual answer is that you've gotta network. you need an inner circle. you need people with shared interests so that you can gas each other's stuff up
just like everyone else, you need your friends
you need to have friends who care about you, about what you're doing, and you need to care about them and what they're doing
this is because, while self-confidence is important...
the majority of your external validation as an artist should come from your friends and peers, not strangers
it's important to have artist friends, because then you can encourage each other in ways that are personally meaningful, but having your friends behind you, whether or not they're musicians, is so incredibly important
if you're motivated exclusively by success, however you're choosing to measure that, what you're actually doing is forming a nightmarish parasocial relationship with the concept of a crowd. not even a real crowd! a fictional group that materialises when you've created "the conditions for success"
there is no such thing as a truly independent artist. if your understanding of artistic success requires competition against others, you're going to lose that competition and then explode (unfortunately common)
finding your audience as an artist (and mind you, art is a social field) is very much a process of networking, but it feels gross to say it that way, so I'll just leave that at "if you want to be known by others, you need to be willing to know others"
anyway, this doesn't really terminate in a complete sentiment. I was just transcribing a train of though
if I were to boil this down to a shorter, snappier answer that I could read comfortably read out, it'd be...
TL;DR
the process of finding an audience is so much less about actually finding one than it is about learning to create happily whether or not you have an audience. developing an audience is the largely incidental byproduct of long-term creative efforts coupled with self-advocacy and interpersonal networking
if you want to be found by a scene, you have to participate in a scene, and if you want to participate in a scene, you need to be in the scene. so on so forth
as stupid as it might sound when I put it into words, the truth is that you can't build any kind of audience in isolation. someone has to find you somehow, and it's a lot easier to be found if you're actually somewhere that people might look

Drunk in love✨️✨️✨️
Pairing: Steve Rogers x female reader
Word count: around 700
Warning: none for now. Alcohol consumption. 18+ only . There will be smut in future. Minors do not interact! Fluff kinda (please let me know if I need to add more warnings.)
Summary: Drunk and giddy you admire yourself or is it just you?....
A/N : This is just some promo😘, maybe someday I will turn it into series☺️😚 cause I've idea of next chapter but not the energy to write 😅😅😅.
Main Masterlist
Series Masterlist(to be added)
As always reblogs, comments and feedback is VERY VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!!😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩
No beta read. All mistakes are my own!
(Moodboard made by me, pics only show the vibe not actual features of the reader ❤)
Beautiful as fuck. You giggled at your reflection as you gave yourself another once over. You'd fuck yourself. Yup totally .
You squish both your breasts together and pucker your lips in the form when kissing . You giggle again and wink at your reflection and make a sexy pose, arching your back . Damn you are adorable. You laugh again and with your first and middle finger you give a flying kiss to yourself. Sometimes a girl needs to feel Beautiful, you say out loud to no one and make your way back to the bar from where you stand. The hallway is empty , where you stand currently and you were confused as you were trying to find the bathroom and mayyyybe you were tipsy, a little. Duh ! a lot . You are giggling nonstop and feel like floating on cloud nine. You stumbled upon this mirror which extends from floor to ceiling , and just like anyone in your position would do , you needed to check yourself out. You lean on the mirror and kiss yourself and start walking back to your friends.
Steve looks up from the file he was holding . Sam did a great job but changes need to be made , overall it's pretty good .He exhales loudly and sighs , good. His gaze floats around the room and suddenly lands on your figure, giggling and making all those pretty poses, sexy and then adorable. His lips turn up slightly and then he's full on smiling at your little show . He finds himself checking you out, from your hair sticking to your forehead from sweat , your shiny eyes , your cute nose and your beautiful lips. He licks his own lips , and lets his gaze roam over your figure and stands up . He moves towards the door when you lean in to kiss the mirror. He blinks suddenly and smiles again . So adorable he thinks and then you are moving away
. He stares at the mirror long after you are gone and paints your picture in his mind again. So beautiful. He smiles again and shakes his head at himself over the thought of acting like a boy with a secret crush . He moves back to his chair. Granted, making the door as a two way mirror wasn't a good idea but nobody wandered in this area. It was his office where he ran business. His new club was doing well, it was new but he knew it would be a success like many other businesses of his. He settles back in his chair and his head hits the back of soft leather. His eyes fall shut and the images of you flashes in his head .
"Thought you got kidnapped " Mia sighs out loud when you approach her beside the counter where the bartender places two drinks ."Don't worry ! bub. Nobody can handle me , not even the kidnappers and they will be returning me within an hour if they ever took me " You pout and chuckle a little at your own silly joke. "Oh ! I don't know " she rolls her eyes and hands you another drink . "Cheers!" You both shout in unison and gulp down your drinks.

Helloy FT Fandom of Tumblr
Can help me with something. Please recommend Fairy Tail fanfics in the comments and reblogs. Any ship, no ship, self promo is ok. Just spread that love around. Thanks. I would like a positivity boost right now because I am going to throw a pillow otherwise. I also am looking for more things to read.
I'll start. My obsession is rewrite fics/dragon slayer centric with plenty of family feels, so that's most of my recs.
Obligatorily dropping my own AO3 @ here.
Tra'viin Tome'mir by GemmaRose. A series with a Sense8 style mindscape-sharing Dragon Slayers. I'm obsessed with this entire thing. I am not normal about it. It's everything I ever wanted with the dragon slayer dynamic in a ft rewrite-type fic.
Faeries, Dragons, and Demons this story has been disconned and orphanned, but I still believe it's the best rewrite of FT of all time.
How to Raise Your Dragon Slayers by PencilofAwesomeness because I go feral for this Papalogia AU and the kids being the best thing to ever happen to him and everyone who ever reads this. I would die for them
all i got is this pride by titaniaeli about Loke knowing the Dragon Slayers back when they were kids, a 5+1 about them not recognizing him before all remembering at once. This fic keeps me up at night I love it so mudsakdjal
The Fourth Of Jellal by dragonshost when I say the concept of this fic has me by the chokehold pls. Mystogan becomes Master against his every will and he ends up having to actually confront existing in the Fairy Tail guild hall. I never realized how much I craved Mystogan interactions with his Earthland family until now.
D for Dragon Slayers by Beastrage ahhh this crossover between One Piece and Fairy Tail??? It gets my mind reeling. Seeing these unhinged feral mongrels with their un-understandable powers just existing in the One Piece world and the way they all react to them... I so desperately want them to reunite. I will die if they don't. I will.

12, 18 & 28 please!
[send a number for me to talk about one of the following topics!] ||Accepting|| @lured-into-wonderland
12.) Promos
I think they're nice and a lot of the times people make really pretty graphics. I think it's cool! I respect people who go through the effort of making them or commissioning someone else to make them. It's cool to see the vision.
The thing is with me, I rarely ever do promos because I don't want to be perceived. I don't really care if I have a lot of followers or anything because i'm super shy and I can get easily overwhelmed if I have a lot of drafts to work on at once.
I like meeting new people and slowly making friends over time. I'm a slow hermit turtle. I do try to reblog promos when I see them!
-
18.) Shipping
As a general concept, I love shipping. I've read a lot of series in my time and I still read a lot. Shipping is just a fun part of reading media, but I can also read without expressly needing to ship.
Similarly, I do not need to ship on tumblr rp. I'm totally content with platonic content. I don't really ship all that often with a lot of my muses, anyways. I'm open to the idea of it, usually. It is usually best to interact with my muse for a bit first before asking me to possibly ship. That way, I can judge the chemistry between the muses.
Otherwise, tell me straight up before interacting and I'll keep it in mind as we interact and then I'll get back to you eventually to be like 'ye' or 'sorry, no thank you.' It also matters to me that I can at least trust the other person and be on friendly enough terms with them. I cannot ship with someone who I can't get along with.
I do like shipping, and it is fun... the dynamics between muses can be really enjoyable... but... I'm scared. I've heard of people who suddenly got blocked by their ship partners without warning and have seen how hurt they got over it. I couldn't really sympathize well with them until it happened to me. 3 people on here somewhat know how bad it was for me behind the scenes. The only people who really saw how badly I was taking it in full honesty, were people at work. It was bad.
That's all I'll say on that matter. I never wish this on anyone else, and I honestly don't know if I'm ready to risk having to go through that again. Does that mean I'm absolutely against shipping? No. I think if you asked me to ship Nun and Rav, I'd say yes. I think they have some chemistry that can be worked on, and you and I have always had pretty open communication with each other. I trust you to be honest with me and tell me if you had any issues.
-
28.) Your first muse
Hmmm I've talked about it before but I think most of the people who were around have left the RPC years ago. So, this might be news to some people.
Fun fact, my first ever muse on tumblr RPC is not Haru Miura back in 2016. She is my first official RP blog, but she isn't my first ever muse. My first muse was actually Shugarl Geripeta. I was rp'ing with a friend who wanted more people to interact with on tumblr bc iirc an ex-friend of hers tried to cancel her, resulting in most of her friends leaving. So I just had a main blog that also doubled as a Shugarl blog lol.
As for my first ever muse, I'm pretty sure her name was an OC named Kira Kim for the Prince of Te//nnis series on a proboards site keke.

i wasn't sure if you would read the tags i'd leave if i reblogged your reply to my ask so i decided to just send you another ask! ha! i'll bullet point them this time bc i have quite a few things to say:
1. you can definitely keep my asks public, i really don't mind :)
2. never have i ever been so excited to open an email, and that too first thing in the morning. seeing your reply, especially that little treat at the end (!!!!!!!!!), had me smiling and kicking my feet in bed. i'm, impossibly enough, even more excited for Emberclaw now.
3. having more than one narrative position in a book is certainly ambitious and one that i haven't encountered in any other book so far, but it grows on you, fast (at least it did on me), and can be an acquired taste to some who are willing to give it a chance. i think you might just be the first author who has changed my mind completely on first person narratives and i owe it to your flawless delivery, of course (i'm biased, i'll admit). also, "narrative positions" was exactly the word that wouldn't come to me in my fit of excitement while writing my last ask; it was a tiny brain-fart moment on my part when i said "pov choice" instead haha.
4. this is more of an aside really but it once took me 400 pages (of a 800+ pages) to get into a book, so imho, 50 pages isn't asking for much. fantasy novels tend to be a little demanding! also, it was my first proper foray into epic fantasy. i then went on to finish the series despite the really, really, really slow start. the slowest. i think a reader can tell when the wait will be worth it though, almost like a gut feeling.
5. multi-pov is another polarizing aspect of books, but then again, it can be enjoyed if done well. i once read a book with 14 povs and gave it 5 stars. it wasn't even a fantasy novel, but a contemporary one! in comparison, your book with its 4 povs is pretty tame, and i think, even the norm for epic/high fantasy novels. personally, i enjoy being in the head of different characters! especially when you've got a big cast of them. also, that surprise 5th pov toward the end took me quite by surprise!! jaw, meet floor.
6. i do have a GR account! and i certainly have plans on leaving well-deserved, glowing reviews on both the book and audio :) it's the least i can do!
7. this one is more of a suggestion to those who might find the narrative positioning a little jarring: listen to the audiobook instead; it warms you up to it much faster!
i think that just about covers it. again, i cannot say this enough, but Dragonfall would not be the story i fell absolutely in love with had you not made the narrative (ha!) choices you did. i hope more people come to appreciate and love it as much as i do, and are willing to give it the fair chance it deserves <3
much love 💖
I think I'd see the tags! I'm so out of practice with Tumblr, but I have enjoyed coming back to it as I feel in some ways I can be more authentic over here rather than the more traditional promo over on tiktok and insta. Not that I'm inauthentic elsewhere it's just...here you can be a bit more off the cuff, I think?
1. Whew!
2. Aww yay! Interacting with readers is honestly one of my favourite things. I'm so excited when I hear from someone who got what I was trying to do. Releasing art for public consumption can be excellent but also hard. Dragonfall is probably my most personal book, so it being marmite made me so self-conscious. I always think about that Don Marquis quote "Publishing a volume of verse is like dropping a rose petal down the Grand Canyon and waiting for the echo." It's nice when you get the echoes back. :-)
3. I was inspired to be experimental after reading The Fifth Season, which is a masterpiece. I've heard good things about The Spear Cuts Through Water which also does cool narrative position trickery, I think. I also really love framing devices of people looking back, like in Assassin's Apprentice by Hobb (my fave author, as evidenced by the dedication). I'm glad I could open you up to all the opportunities of first person! I taught a class on narrative positions when I was a creative writing lecturer so I'm just very passionate about how form can marry function, hah.
4. Yes, four (technically five) is tame compared to some! I did seven in Seven Mercies and whew, that was a lot, even though technically my co-writer and I mostly split it up. My next projects will be 2 and then 1 as a bit of a breather. It is harder to balance multi POV, but I love the "heteroglossia" potential of storytelling.
6. Thank you!
7. I wish I could listen to the audiobooks of my books! I get too self-conscious or want to edit. I can say that Philip and Rachel did amazing jobs from the samples I head, though, and I was super excited they hired a nonbinary voice actor for Arcady. This was also my first time having more than one voice actor, which was neat.
And yes, I hope so too. <3

i was gonna ask this in messages but tumblr absolutely nuked my sideblogs messaging tab AS i was sending them??? idk ANYWAY
well first of all- how do you get people interested? i was thinking of making an interest check form but have never made one before and was wondering what questions to put on it
oh rip your messaging tab. that sucks.
as for getting people interested: my form of interest check was a poll i did on my main (since i don't mind having people know what events/accounts i run.) it only had four options, all of them pretty general [link here!]
i had two yes's, participant and non-participant, to get an idea of how many people would actually make something, so that's a good thing to put on the form! obviously if the event your running is for a lesser known ship/duo/character, there's gonna be more no's and maybe's then definite yes's, but don't let that discourage you. I even had to tell myself "don't get caught up on the numbers, focus on the fun. focus on if I WANT to do this, not how much attention it will get." before making this event!
Another good question would maybe be the timing of the event? Especially now that we're in the latter months of the year. (Summer break is ending for any American still in school, the holiday season is getting closer, etc etc.) A lot of things are either gonna be giving people more time and other things giving them less time. This was probably a question i should've asked myself, in all honesty. Do try to make it happen at a time that's both good for you AND others. Don't be afraid to delay or push the event back a week, either. Life often gets pretty unpredictable
You could also ask for inputs on theme! Especially if your like me and suck at this stuff. Or you could be like fwhimmyweek #1, and just have daily themes based off the character(s) themselves.
I would also asks what type of art is most likely to be created, assuming you allow multiple types. Bigger events (think treebark week) are more likely to get more varied stuff (writing, stimboards, webweavings, etc) while smaller events like this one may only get art and a few fanfictions here and there
I would also leave an open response question, for any ideas or suggestions people have!
Actually getting people interested is the hard part. All i can say is promote the hell out of it, on here, in any discord server you can, with friends if you can too; but sometimes that only gets you so far. I saw an increase in followers and mentions of this event when it actually got going. (And it was, a little amusing to be honest, seeing mcytblrsource and other accounts in my reblogs post-event.) Sometimes just running it once will be what gets more attention.
(if you don't know what mcytblrsource is: they keep track of fandom events. i'm not sure what tags they check, but it's probably somewhere on their blog. Or they might allow asks. Getting them to see it, sooner or later, and tagging with #mcyt event could also work in your favor)
also! promotional images leading up to it! post your full event pfp and header, if they're both original pieces. my promo posts for the week before the event helped a little, and the header art is like the most popular post on this blog. so they both definitely did something.
that's all i can think of right now, hope it helps!
#let me know if you do run the event! either in asks or dms!#i'll make sure to promote the hell out of it#ask#mod doozy#sorry if that was too wordy!#if i have any more question ideas i'll add them in a reblog!#other event runners are free to chime in the notes as well#especially more experienced ones!

The Rose. Episode 3 - "Petals"
I like Rose now. Fae gave me a reason to talk about the only one I couldn't save.
A tumblr houseplant story from @briarborealisart
The info post is here
Episode one - "Thorns"
Episode two - "Maidoe"
Note - this is still a first draft, any feedback would be much appreciated. Especially for this one, this is a super interesting concept to explore, but my brain found it so difficult, and comments on if I got to the core of this would be appreciated. <3
---------
Rose waved faer tail. Fae did that. By faerself. Grown to the tallest heights in a place as tame as this. The same could not be said for the other houseplants.
Rose brushed the dirt off faer tail. "I think it's neat."
Puddles hummed. "It is neat"
Rose flicked faer ears." It took quite a lot of effort."
"I know"
"And it turned out quite nice"
"It did"
"I think its better than having lots of little flowers like Shamrock"
"Shamrock would disagree with you there"
Rose shook fair head. "I'm pretty sure the splendor of my flower would impress quite a few more pollinators in the wild. In this stale place? Are faer flowers better? Debatable. But the objective fact of the wild is that my flower is superior."
"Okay Rose"
Rose startled.
" What? No debates? Have you finally admitted defeat?"
Puddles rubbed the base of faer ears. "It's nothing major. I'm just... really tired."
Rose fluffed up fair ears. "Well there is a simple procedure-"
"Thank you Rose, but I don't - "
Rose tapped Puddles on the snout. "Shush shush. In the wild. signs of weakness grow into an insurmountable predicament. Take it from the bona-fide growth expert..." Rose gave puddles a once over, "You spend too much time daydreaming. But not to worry, the unveiled ignorance will reveal the best possible path -"
"Rose. I didn't ask"
"That's part of the problem. You don't see things until it's too late."
"Rose. Not now."
"Ah, but when? The answer is always now, for you could miss the solutions-"
Puddles stood. Rose blinked. Why did- didn't Puddles need assistance? Rose had plenty to offer, all faer points were valid. There should not be a problem. This was all fae had to offer.
Puddles rubbed fair muzzle. "I - I need some alone time. Okay?"
"I wouldn't reccomend it"
"Thankfully, I'm too tired to care"
Rose bristled. "Fine. But don't come later seeking the advice I am so graciously offering you-"
Puddles turned and left.
Rose stuttered.
Puddles could come at any time for advice.
Rose would never refuse giving advice.
Same with Puddles.
Rose flicked faer ears. No. Something was wrong.
---
[next episode - "wild"]
Having Rose be from the wild and thinking fae is superior, along with wanting to "be faerself with no filter" is just... so interesting to me.
These first three episodes are the ones I wrote at a two am writing session, and I stopped here.
There shall be more episodes on the way tho <3
Annnndddd.. quick question, I think it would be fun to do a "special plant themed tumblr-wholsomeness challenge" once the garden reaches five plants, something like a "send a nice message", maybe a "everyone do some self-care and buy a plant?" IDK, I like the idea of collective things.
if you don't mind the little self-promo: reblog this with one kind statement to "water" rose, let's spread some wonder to this convoluted place <3
And spread the word to anyone else who would like to add their houseplant to the garden, perhaps we can fill tumblr with houseplants.
#writeblr#the land of the fallen fairies#the tumblr houseplant series rose#the tumblr houseplant series#tumblr's houseplants#congrats tumblr#you got a garden now#full of plants with some sort of personal issues#very on brand

How do you become of the “big” writers in a fandom like TUA? It doesn’t seem like writing a lot gets me anywhere even if I do enjoy it
Luck. It's dumb luck.
My first advice is to not chase trying to be a "big writer". It genuinely is dumb luck. Focus on enjoying writing, enjoying/building the community around your fics/fandom, and try to not let yourself focus too much on those interaction stats. I know this is hard - we are all so addicted to that rush of dopamine and validation kudos and reblogs and comments give. We are all chasing it, it's part of why we share anything. But if you let that become your focus it sucks all the joy out of writing and then you have to take a break until you can get your head in a healthier spot about it and enjoy it again.
So, that disclaimer said, there are some things I think... help push luck in your favor, things I did to try and push community that translated to engagement. It's also about getting the right eyes on your fic, getting that one person to see and share it that starts a domino effect of more people seeing it (and maybe sharing it).
First is technical stuff. Get good at titles and summaries, summaries especially. You need people to want to click on your fic and to see what its about. I don't think I've talked about summaries before, and I'm not going to do it here outside of saying 1) Yes, I know they suck to write they're the worst and 2) that the goal of a summary is to let the reader know what to expect and to to pique their interest. It's the blurb on the back of the book when you're browsing, it's your shot to get someone to open it and give your story a try. Next, it's good you enjoy the writing process (that is the whole point!) because being technically good also helps keep people reading once they've opened your fic. People will read things they aren't necessarily interested in if it's well-written, and they will bail on things they like if it's too hard to read. But keep in mind that just being good isn't going to make you blow up in a fandom - some of the best fics I've read have had but a handful of kudos and comments on them.
The second is the social stuff. You have to find your crowd, your corner of the fandom, the people who will enjoy your fics. If you write Five but only Klaus stans are seeing your works, you're not going to go very far. Get good at tagging - on AO3 and when promo-ing on Tumblr. DO NOT take this as "put as many tags as possible so more people see it!". That's spam. Everyone hates spam. Don't be that person. Accurately tag your stuff so people know what your fic is. If it's what they want to read, they'll click on it - those are the people you are targeting, not every person in the fandom. Get comfortable self-reblogging posts when you post/update fics. If you're up for it, curate a community responding to comments on fics and encouraging asks on Tumblr (be careful with that and be ready to shut the inbox if people start being fucking weird - your mental health comes first).
After saying all that, my biggest point is to repeat that that "hitting it big" is dumb luck and fandom is fickle. TUA is in a lull between seasons right now and we all know the current struggle of artists and writers getting people to reblog things/interact further than a like/kudo. You're going to burn yourself out and stop having fun if your focus is on finding "fame" within the fandom, especially right now. I think the above stuff helped things take off for me, but I've been building my community for two years now and it was still luck at the end of the day. As you practice your writing skills, add to your library of fics, build your own community, things will get bigger organically.
#being a fic writer is a bit of a hustle if you let it#i hope this doesn't come across as me putting you down at all#but i also don't want anyone to quit writing and get discouraged if things don't take off - it's hard out here!#i also obviously chased interaction - i do the self promos and i encouraged people to come hang with me on tumblr#in my earlier author's notes especially#i think that's just human and an innate part of sharing things online - we are /sharing/ we want other people to see it!#and we want to know they enjoyed it when they saw it!#and it is genuinely a very quiet time in the fandom rn#fandom culture moves faster than it used to so people come when a season drops and then leave two weeks later for the next thing#which is sad - come stay! hang out!#outside of making your fic accessible via tagging and whatnot#finding a community i think is the biggest thing#not just for getting numbers on your fics#but just for having fun and throwing ideas around and whatnot#i found my people in the five corner of the fandom and through the Elliott's House discord#also kind of you to consider me a big writer in the fandom - i don't have a good sense for that sort of thing and where my place is#ask response#fandom#writing#long post

You are loved and appreciated! I enjoy your writing greatly and I hope you aren't too discouraged by the lack of interaction, a lot of the rp community falls into real life stuff or even just forgets to schedule their drafts at times <3 Much love, hope you're well!
I appreciate that. It just hurts when I put so much into a character, I build a whole world around him, and people aren't so much as interested in what's his favorite color or what he does for fun. Naturally, I feel discouraged. I don't mind waiting for drafts and I understand that people have a life outside of roleplaying, but when something that takes literally less than a minute is considered too much, and I'm made to feel guilty for wanting such a basic interaction, it makes me just want to delete this account. It's this kind of thing that makes rpers quit and then people wonder why there's no one left to rp with. Am I really asking too much for someone, even in anon, to come to my inbox and drop a pre-determined ask?
When I started rping here around three years ago, it was common for people to drop a random ask, to send in memes even if they might not get answered, and we reblogged each others promos. Encouraged each other and even built off of each others headcanons. Now, it feels more like no one remembers there is a person behind the muse. Just a generic cut-out that they could replace once they become 'problematic'. I don't even feel like my muse would be missed by most of the rpers who follow me. They'll just move on to the next 'Connor' or join another fandom.
It's actually kind of ironic that I roleplay a character so easily replaced in game, which is considered to be one of the most upsetting things about him. People saying how 'he could never be replaced', but it really shows how much closer to human nature that game got than what we're comfortable with understanding.
I'm sorry for the reply. I guess the simple answer is I'm not doing well, though I appreciate that you reached out. Thank you.

KNOWING YOUR PARTNER WELL CAN POTENTIALLY MAKE WRITING TOGETHER A LOT EASIER. REPOST, DO NOT REBLOG!
NAME: Vale !
PRONOUNS: he / she / they
PREFERENCE OF COMMUNICATION: I largely prefer discord and will give it out if asked, but I don't mind starting with tumblr IMs if that's more comfortable
NAME OF MUSE(s): Scara / Wanderer / Hiroshi is my main but I also have Lyney, Alhaitham, and Kinich. Mavuika is technically in ' testing ' as I'm waiting for more story to write her properly.
BEST EXPERIENCE: I really don't know tbh. Apart from meeting some long-term friends through rp I guess the only thing I can remember was being part of the DR fandom when the third season(s) were airing. I know that fandom has a negative reputation but it was genuinely great during this time. Seeing everyone's reactions to the weekly eps, theorycrafting, and being right about the twist by reading the lips of an animation ? It was so fun. I'd actually love to relive that kind of thing.
RP PET PEEVES / DEALBREAKERS: Lack of communication, especially because it's extremely difficult for me to reach out as is. Blogs where majority of it is smut and its not an nsfw sideblog. Blogs that rb their own promo several times a week. I've legit seen some where it was daily. I'm sure there's more but that's a solid three.
MUSE PREFERENCES: I don't think I have any ? So long as we can plot something fun out, I'm game for anything. Or does this mean muses that I prefer to write ? For me, I somehow always end up writing muses that have some kind of parental ( or lack thereof ) issues. It is 1000% NOT intentional. I just like complex little guys that are kinda broken and maybe can't be fixed. It makes their relationship with those they choose to be around all the better and more meaningful.
PLOTS OR MEMES: Both ! Though I do prefer plotting for brand new interactions just so I don't have to dance around how my muse should treat my partner's. Especially if they haven't interacted in canon.
LONG OR SHORT REPLIES: Long. No matter how short things start, I very quickly lose the ability to shut up. My partners don't need to match it of course, but I don't want to write four paras and get like 1.5 in return.
BEST TIME TO WRITE: Without fail it's when I need to get my ass in bed because I have work the next day. That's when my brain decides it suddenly has the juice to reply to a thread.
ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S): I was once told that me liking Scara made sense but idk what that meant. If I really had to say, I guess I'm most like Lyney. But not for any of the positive reasons lmao. His mental struggles and the way I've chosen to interpret and hc things are familiar to me even if they're different struggles.
TAGGED BY: @citrinitxs tyyyyy !!! TAGGING: anyone who wants to !

" I WANTED SOMETHING DIFFERENT, SOMETHING BETTER. "
DOSSIER. • MEMES. • PROMO. • WISHLIST. • VERSES. • HEADCANONS. ( under construction! )
#ALDCLDO is an independent writing/roleplay blog for cyberpunk 2077's PANAM PALMER. considering the nature of said game, sensitive & triggering material will be abundant here. panam has multiple verses & is available for multiple ships that will each take place in their own unique verse. duplicates, crossovers, ocs, multi-muse blogs are all welcomed, though blogs that are in no way related to rp will be blocked on sight, as well as minors. please read the rules that are below the cut!
i. as i am someone who prefers an enjoyable and easily navigable dashboard, i tend to follow selectively. if i come to the conclusion that following your blog will not accommodate this preference of mine after i do a once-over, then i won't. also, let it be known that i am not going to be using anyone just to increased my number of followers and i'd appreciate if you show me the same courtesy by not using me for that purpose, either. in other words, if i follow you, that means i would like to interact with you, and i hope you choosing to follow me means the same.
ii. i don't think this needs to be said, but still — while this is a hobby that i take pleasure in doing, i will not treat this as anything more, like some sort of obligation. i'll be sure to communicate with partners in cases where it may be generous to do so, like if i want to drop threads or ships, if i will be taking a hiatus, etc., but please understand that, as a human being, i'm subject to fluctuating, ever-changing moods and i've a life outside of this that includes responsibilities and other hobbies, all of which could impact my availability and activity. i will not tolerate impatience from anyone; as much as i appreciate people being interested, no one is entitled to my time.
iii. if you want to ship with me, you need not be shy! whether your muse ends up a romantic partner, business partner, friend, enemy or whatever, of panam's, i guarantee you that i will love it. exploring dynamics and relationships of any and all kinds is great fun for me. however, please bear in mind that i can and will refuse or drop anything that i don't see working or i feel no longer works.
iv. if you are a minor, have a laundry list of triggers and/or are easily squeamish, i recommend that you do not follow this blog. cyberpunk 2077 deals with a host of mature subjects and themes that will often be explicitly depicted in some way, shape or form here. you are responsible for your own well-being. additionally, i'm okay with writing smut but on the condition that i know you well enough and i'm comfortable with you.
v. i ask that if you want to cease being mutuals, you soft-block me. likewise, i'll be soft-blocking those that i no longer want to be mutuals with. please continue my answers to your messages in a separate post. kindly do not use this blog for resources; reblog everything from the source. i neither participate in nor condone drama, call-out culture, witch hunting, and vague posting.
vi. i'm iris! my pronouns are she/her and i am above the age of twenty-one. feel free to message me if you've got any questions or would just like to chat!

floraltempcst / ind. Aerith Gainsborough from FFVII
promo / lunafreya / komaeda / blog is a wip, please hang in there while we get sorted
About:

Completed Materials in the VII Universe:

Rules:
Basics: This blog is mutual only, selective, and not spoiler-free. I don’t typically tag spoilers, either, so please be mindful of this should you choose to follow. Blah blah standard rp etiquette stuff. Let’s not be terrible to one another. Non-RP Blogs: Are welcome to follow and interact with me, my muse, or any guest muses in the ask box. That said, please don’t reblog posts or threads unless otherwise specified. If you’re ever curious, don’t be scared to ask! Triggers: If it’s canon, it’ll likely be here at some point. I tag whatever I think to be default, but I will also tag upon request. Tags are formatted: “cw:trigger” so blacklist as needed. Shipping: I’m always open to discussing all kinds of ships, be they romantic, platonic, familial, or something else altogether. That said: please don’t use me or my muse solely for shipping fodder. I’ve had...experiences, and it’s discouraging to say the least. I’ll usually only ship where I feel there’s potential and chemistry. Ship Wars: For the love of all that is holy (heh) I have less than no desire to take part in the nightmare that is shipping discourse. I love Aerith, and Tifa, and Cloud, and Zack, and every combination thereof. Genuine, kind, and good-natured discussion is welcome - the uglier stuff that inevitably follows is not. We don't pit brilliant women against one another in this house. NSFW Content: I am well over 18. Adult content is permitted on this blog. However, I will only thread NSFW plots of any kind with muns and muses who are of age, and with whom I feel comfortable. Implied content will be tagged with “#lemon scented’ and more explicit content will be tagged with “#lemon” so please blacklist accordingly. Furthermore, I feel the need to firmly state that absolutely no romantic content will be threaded with muns who are under 18 or with whom I don’t feel comfortable, regardless of their muse. Crossovers: Are welcome and encouraged!! Provided I know at least a little something about the other fandom and characters, and/or you’re willing to help me up to speed. Formatting: I have a preferred format for replies, but it isn’t set in stone. If you have accessibility requirements, such as text size, please tell me and I’ll do my best to be accommodating. Hard Lines: For personal reasons, I will not write any of the following: yandere, cheating, anything in which my muse intentionally mistreats her loved one/s in a way that’s out of character, custody/certain family disputes, explicit depictions of domestic abuse (with precious few exemptions), explicit depictions of animal abuse. Thank you for understanding. New Interactions: If you’re wanting to interact with me and not sure where to start, the simple solution is just to scream in my DMs, or leave something in my inbox. Seriously, don’t ever feel unwelcome. Likewise, it’s always okay to continue inbox memes into new threads. I typically try to respond to things in a way that leaves room for further replies, so if that’s something you’re curious about, now you know. Once again: interactions are always welcome, even if I can be a little slow to respond. And that's it. I've tried to keep this list fairly brief and easy to follow, but if you have any further questions, I'll be only too happy to answer to the best of my ability.
more rules may be added or current ones altered if required. however, i'll make an announcement if/when such a thing occurs.

If you peep my profile don't mind my cranky dni. Roleplay tumblr community is dead (depending on your fandom anyway) and needs more life so 🫡
First up, if you're on desktop you'll want an extension like xKit Rewritten if you don't have it for general tumblr purposes already - it will let you trim your posts (you'll have to save the post you're replying to in drafts first, then you'll have to click
that icon to trim. People don't usually like post towers on their dash and in rp tumblr if you aren't trimming your post, then it will become a tower, because if you get something going it can easily reach 100+ reblogs between you and whomever you're playing with.
If you aren't on desktop, that's cool too; most people will understand and trim it for the both of you. Provided they can, anyway. I uh, dunno the logistics of mobileXmobile threads. There might be an extension for mobile?? I do not know!!!
Anyway, second, your blog -- many people make dedicated blogs for single characters; many people make multicharacter/multifandom blogs; many people use side-blogs be they branched off from their personal or another roleplay blog. It depends on your personal preference.
If you're using a side-blog branched off from your personal blog, though, make sure to note that on your personal blog (ie. "my roleplay blog is xyz") and your side-blog (ie. "i follow back from abc") so people will know who tf you are lol. Many roleplay blogs block personal blogs if there are no indications that the personal blog has a roleplay blog side.
Whether it's on your tumblr itself or a google docs or carrd or wherever, information that most people in the RPC in general look for includes
information about your character(s)
your rules (who you do/don't want interacting, your boundaries, what subject matter you are/aren't okay with, etc)
information about you (nickname, pronouns, age or age range (a lot of people block ageless and many adult roleplayers don't want to write with minors), but keep in mind basic internet safety lol)
Once you've got your roleplay blog all set up you might want to make a promo post to get yourself out there (just keeping in mind tumblr's grace period where a new blog's posts won't show up in the tags... I suggest doing tag checks (such as posting a nonsense post in a tag that's just your blog's url) and only dropping the promo once you're showing up). These can be a simple text post introducing you/your blog in the relevant tags (ie. 'fandom name rp', 'video game rp', 'anime rp', 'fantasy rp', etc) to some fancy-pants graphic thing.
(Speaking of fancy-pants graphics--some people use icons, some people don't. Some people do fancy formatting, some people don't. It's to personal taste, but there are elitists who won't roleplay with non-formatted or iconless roleplayers 🙄)
Also, follow people relevant to your fandom(s) or genre(s) 🤷 but like, obviously, I guess, lol.
Just keep in mind basic roleplay etiquette (ie. don't reblog roleplay threads you aren't part of, don't god mode, bluh bluh) and that the overall roleplay community has deadzones (especially if you're part of a subgroup that gets a lot of hate in your fandom(s) or whatever, ie. proship--but like even when I didn't broadcast that I was proship it was often like pulling teeth to get people to play with me loL).
It can take a while to get aaaaaanything started. Dropping an open roleplay post in the relevant tags every now and then can sometimes get a bite, but not always.
One of my formerly most active blogs didn't become active until like six months after I made it, lol ✌️😭 so my last word of advice is, be persistent, I guess??
Also I think that one proship roleplay finder blog pfprz or whatever I'm too lazy to check does reblog RP blog promos if you submit them to their blog so that's an option to get yourself out there, too.
Good luck 🫡
Roleplay tumblr, find me please and let me know how it works!!! I love role-playing and I would adore rping on tumblr, but I've never done that before!
