hello !! i'm a long time lurker here at tumblr, but it's been a while since i posted/made any new sideblogs. you can call me anna ! i'm a girl obv, and also a minor [16-18] so pls don't be creepy !!
i recently got into diabolik lovers and watched the first season of the anime as well as gameplay of haunted dark bridal. if it's not obvious, my favourite character is kanato !! i haven't been very involved with the fandom yet but i see a lot of hate for him which is sad :(
more about this blog -- my main fandom is diabolik lovers !! i'm no artist and barely a writer, but i can make memes, headcanons, quotes and things like that !! as well as rambles and stuff about the series. i'm not interested in any characters other than yui and the sakamaki brothers, so if you expect content for anyone else from me i'm sorry to let you down.
i'll add some more stuff abt me below :}
fandoms ::
-- diabolik lovers [obv]
-- danganronpa
-- hetalia
-- doki doki literature club
-- yandere simulator
-- future diary
-- omori
-- higurashi when they cry
-- mystic messenger
-- shiki [second best vampire anime after DL imo]
hobbies ::
-- writing [kinda? procrastination is my worst enemy hhhhhhh]
-- cycling
-- learning abt history//geography
-- listening to music [brb js gonna look for a kanato playlist]
-- making fun of americans
-- baking
my fav music artists/bands ::
-- marina (and the diamonds)
-- melanie martinez
-- mitski
-- kikuo
-- lana del rey
-- abba
my fav authors ::
-- agatha christie
-- donna tartt
-- fyodor dostoevsky
my ranking of DL boys ::
-- kanato is obv number one, i rly love his more feminine design and i believe we need more characters that look like him in media. maybe bc my type is more feminine boys but idk. i love his personality asw he's batshit insane and needs immediate professional help. underrated
-- subaru is a surprising one for me, as i often forgot he existed while watching the anime but his route in hdb was rly cute and he's such a tsun tsun which is adorable
-- a few yrs ago reiji was EXACTLY my type and i still appreciate his character archetype quite a lot. he's also one of the meanest of the brothers i love that abt him (i would cry on the spot if he scolded me)
-- shu is pretty cute and i rly like his personality as well. he also has his weird moments like everyone else but i think he had the closest thing to a healthy relationship w yui so that's cool. he's also super relatable
-- laito was actually my second favourite before hdb, but holy fucking shit is his route messed up. the anime did NOT do a good job portraying how deranged this man is. i still like him but his constant horniness and raging misogyny [more so than the others] are huge turnoffs
-- ayato was always pretty low on the list, and after seeing his route my opinion didn't change much. i don't dislike anything in particular abt him, he's just not the type of character i usually like. i don't rly like him with yui either for that reason, so yeah
other ::
-- i rly wanna travel to a lot of places
-- i'm a huge planner when it comes to things, but when the time comes i never follow the plan i spent so much time on,,,
-- i love cats !!
-- i think i'm aroace but i might be biromantic
-- my fav type of weather is cold//rainy//snowy weather
-- my fav food is schnitzel and my fav dessert is crêpes [also my fav fruit is apples]
-- i love making ocs
DNI list ::
-- racists//xenophobes
-- misogynists
-- homophobes
-- pedos//other weirdos of that type
-- furries
-- incels
-- yandev supporters//apologists
-- kanato haters//yui haters
-- people younger than 13//older than 30
-- rhythm game fans
-- 4chan users
-- twitter users
that's it for now !! ty for reading this far <3

23 in 2023 Wrap-Up
So I made a list at the beginning of 2023, and did actually try to read most of the books on it! Results were mixed, but I did read a lot of books I'd been meaning to get to for some time, and made peace with many others. I won't be doing the same for this year because I genuinely don't have that many books I plan on reading. So here they all are:
Books that didn't come out this year:
Alecto the Ninth, Tamsyn Muir - I was very optimistic, but there was not in fact an official release date and there is not one now. I did read the new short story though, and it was very good!
Books I didn't start:
De Profundis, Oscar Wilde - Too stressed for something so soul-searching. Maybe this year?
Lord of the Flies, William Golding - I decided I wasn't going to put myself through this one again and let go of all my guilt about it.
War and Peace, Leo Tolstoy - Similarly, I finally came to terms with the fact that I'm not particularly interested in reading War and Peace right now.
Books I didn't finish:
Once & Future, A.R. Capetta & Cory McCarthy - Very YA, the humour was clearly targeted at a younger audience than me.
Cinnamon Toast and the End of the World, Janet E. Cameron - NOT in fact the lighthearted read its cover makes it out to be.
Beirut Hellfire Society, Rawi Hage - Not as interesting as the title.
The Personal Librarian, Marie Benedict & Victoria Christopher Murray - Might have the prose I liked least all year. The authors were telling everything, which made it very heavy-handed.
Station Eleven, Emily St. John Mandel - Too dark for me :) I regret starting this book. The prose was also a bit heavy-handed.
Books I finished that were Bad:
After the Victorians, A. N. Wilson - Written in 2005, and you can tell, because Wilson's opinions are stale as fuck. I can't really trust much of what he wrote because of that, though the chapter on crosswords was interesting.
Der Dunkle Schwarm, Marie Graßhoff - Dystopia with weak worldbuilding, and I found myself noticing plot holes, which isn't something I typically do.
Books I finished that were mediocre:
The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald - 200 pages of Nick feeling uncomfortable and also some commentary on the american dream that has become common knowledge in the intervening century. This book is for someone else.
Ships of the ‘45, John S. Gibson - Exactly what it says on the cover.
Company Town, Madeline Ashby - Interesting worldbuilding, dull mystery plot (why is it that so much interesting fantasy/sci fi gets saddled with the dullest of imaginable mystery plots?)
Books I finished that were good:
Blood Like Fate, Liselle Sambury - I liked this a bit less than the first book, but it was still interesting and unique YA sci fi! The romance was also well-written.
Legendborn, Tracy Deonn - Honestly I was mostly reading this for the (enjoyably) messy love triangle, and I would continue the series if it looked like my preferred pairing was going to become canon.
Worlds of Ink and Shadow, Lena Coakley - Wittier than I remember it being!
Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Truman Capote - Different, but just as good as the movie.
Love After the End, edited by Joshua Whitehead - An interesting short story collection. My thoughts were very much provoked.
The Sentence, Louise Erdrich - Literary fiction I found satisfactory upon reading that has somehow stuck with me over the last few months.
Books I finished that left me Changed:
Nona the Ninth, Tamsyn Muir - AAAAAHHH (highly recommend, this literally changed everything)
The Secret History, Donna Tartt - This book makes me think maybe I should be reading more thrillers? Or at the very least more dark academia, regardless of how cliche it seems for the rest of my personality.
Small Game Hunting at the Local Coward Gun Club, Megan Gail Coles - The best literary fiction I read this year.
In conclusion, go read The Locked Tomb.

best book I've read in 2023 - I mean, 2023 was the year I finally got around to reading both We Have Always Lived in the Castle and The Golden Compass, so. kinda no contest. but more recently-published books I enjoyed include Princess Floralinda and the Forty-Flight Tower, Hörrorstör, and Juniper and Thorn.
best sequel I've read in 2023 - I mean after I finished Golden Compass I tore right through Subtle Knife and Amber Spyglass, of course. But also Don't Fear the Reaper by Stephen Graham Jones! I love his character writingâ„¢ so much I would read a book about Jade and Letha watching paint dry. Gal was also a breakout star I love that smug little nerd I hope she's all up in book 3
new release I want to read - idk what's even come out recently. The Salt Grows Heavy, maybe?
most anticipated release - definitely System Collapse by Martha Wells. spare murderbot, ma'am?
biggest disappointment - I feel like I had a lot of disappointments this year but I also read a lot of books, so I'm bound to strike out sometimes. the #1 spot goes to The Three-Body Problem (I am...not the audience for this book.) I was also disappointed due to "love the premise so much on paper but the execution was...Not It for me" by Lone Women and Leech and regular-disappointed by the Alex Stern series. I wanted to like those first two especially soooo baaaddd ;;;-;;;
biggest surprise - I would tell you what it was but I'm gonna make @bellasbookclub read it this winter so NO PEEKING. suffice to say it is a girly classicâ„¢ (too obscure to be an actual classic) and I am not alone in reading it and being like wait what the fuck this is so delightful
new (to me) favorite author - not new at all even to me but until this year I had only read her short form stuff: Shirley Jackson. new (to me): Ava Reid, Mariana Enríquez
newest fictional crush - [redacted] from [redacted] but also Marak from The Hollow Kingdom was such an eminently fuckable little Ugly Guy. 10/10
newest favorite character - Merricat Blackwood! also kind of every single character in His Dark Materials tbh. I was reading that ~children's~ book like wow I hope lyra's parents fuck nasty and kill each other and I was so fed
book that made me cry - books almost NEVER make me cry but a) I did feel a lump in my throat a few times during Braiding Sweetgrass, and b) did I lie on the floor at 3 AM listening to Saturn and trying not to weep at the end of The Amber Spyglass? maybe a little
book that made you happy - [redacted,] Picnic at Hanging Rock, and Princess Floralinda all sparked joy. also Orphan Black: Classified Clone Files or whatever it’s called because of all its 3D elements—why yes I have always wanted fliers for Alison’s school board campaign and a physical copy of Delphine’s fucking. boarding pass to Frankfurt I’m laughing so hard
most beautiful book you bought this year - these finds from my local used bookstore! I fucking love "[X] Poem a Day" books. I also got a gorgeous copy of my beloved Perfume: the Story of a Murderer as part of my quest to acquire all the pretty editions
Tumblr media Tumblr media
books I really need to read by the end of the year - seriously like half the Bella's Book Club summer reclist because y'all fucking DELIVERED with those. but also The Wolf and the Woodsman, The City We Became, maybe The Secret History (I know I know. I've been dragging my feet about tumblr's beloved Donna Tartt for literal years but like I'll get to her eventually I promised @bettsfic I would)

Note
1. book you've reread the most times && 15. recommend and review a book && 19. most disliked popular books
book you've reread the most times
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows
I reread this book at least once a year. When I was still running shows it was my go to tech rehearsal book for the long wait between cues. I give copies to my friends on their birthdays with a note in the cover if they don't already have one. Every time I'm in an indie bookstore or used bookstore I buy another copy just in case I need to gift one to someone.
15. recommend and review a book
All Systems Red by Martha Wells (Book #1 in The Murderbot Diaries)
This is first in a series of sci-fi novellas (less than 200pgs each) about a robot/human construct calling itself Murderbot. It has hacked it governor module (long distance corporate behavioral control programming) and now spends most of its time watching soap operas and occasionally being forced to do it's job. When the humans it's protecting stumble across a dangerous conspiracy, life for Murderbot gets more interesting by the hour - which it immensely dislikes. Honestly this series has it all. Its extremely funny, yet manages to say something poignant about everything from late-stage capitalism, body autonomy, and sentience to friendship, media as a coping mechanism, and what it means to be human. It is a story about figuring out that you want to figure out who you are and what you want to do with your life. A story about how a TV show saved someone's life. It's both a warning about what the future could look like and a hope for what the people in that future could do to fix things. The first book hits the ground running and the series only gets better the more Wells adds to the world.
19. most disliked popular books
The Magicians by Lev Grossman and The Secret History by Donna Tartt
2 out 24 books I've not finished since I started tracking my reading in 2010. I literally couldn't listen to Quentin (? I think?) whine anymore after about half the first book and literally every character in Tartt's book made me want to punch them for not using even one brain cell. Also like I really gave these books a shot. I got halfwayish through The Magicians and over 200 pages into The Secret History.
