Captain America & Superman
You know how when Marvel is compared to DC people say that Captain America and Superman are synonymous? Or Iron Man and Batman are? I would like to propose that we switch those. I don't think Captain America and Superman are good comparisons.
Argument number 1 : Captain America is a team player, Superman is not. One of Superman character flaws, something he has to overcome, is that he thinks he can or should protect the world alone. He can lift it alone, and so he should. He struggles with control because when things are outside of his control he feels responsible when they go wrong. He feels he should be able to protect everything, because he has the power, but as only one man he often fails in the scope of it. He may be able to solve every problem, but he can't see every problem. One of the first thing any adaption of the Justice League origin story has to overcome is Superman trying to fight the bad guy alone. Captain America is the literal opposite of that. He is the most team player team player, and when he can take a mission with a team he does. He doesn't shy away or panic at not being able to control every problem or fix every problem, he acts calmly under pressure. He works on teams.
Argument number 2 : Superman is the team leader, Captain America is not. Superman, at least later on in stories (And I don't mean like later editions, but just later on in the stories, like after justice league formations), is genuinely the leader of the Justice League. He calls people together, he addresses issues. Batman is nominally the leader as well, as in he calls attention to problems and offers solutions, but it's Superman who often makes the final calls. Captain American can not be said to often make the final call. He can call orders in combat, and maybe lead missions, but it's either Shield or his fellow Avengers who call missions. In fact, most of the Avengers can be the leader at different times, depending on the situation. Captain American and Iron Man are the leaders of the Avengers in equal measure.
Argument number 3 : Superman's No-kill rule, and Captain America's willingness to kill. I think this relates to Superman's feelings that only Superman can keep Superman in check. And he's not wrong, which means if Superman doesn't have hard morals, then he doesn't get to be Superman. Captain America doesn't have those issues. Captain America was taught combat in war, and made his morals there too. He has mercy, don't forget that, but he also doesn't see killing as the be all end all of morality.
Counter Argument number 1 : Both Superman and Captain America deal with the narrative question of "Are they necessary?" And the conclusion is that they aren't. Superman can retire, so can Captain America. They aren't necessary for the world to go on. But they have inspired people who often carry on their legacy. Superman has inspired plenty of the Justice League to be better heroes, and plenty of Super-boys who came after. Captain America also inspired heroes, and plenty of people who try to take up the mantel after he's gone. And their success depend on how much they understand themselves and what they stand for, and overcome who Superman and Captain America were.
Counter Argument number 2 : Clark Kent and Steve Rogers are very similar. Both are small town guys who view themselves as Clark Kent and Steve Rogers first, and Superman and Captain America second. I think their civilian identities are good comparisons.
Secondary Arguments 1 : I think Iron Man and Superman have more similar narratives. Both have these sense that their skills and powers are dangerous and they need to be their own moral compass. Both are scared of their own powers in a way. Stark is scared of his tech being misused and also running from his weapons dealer past. I've already explained Superman's fear. I know that Iron Man isn't exactly no-kill but he's one of the guys who I could see having that rule.
Secondary Arguments 2 : I think Batman and Captain America have similar fighting styles and approaches to missions. I don't think they'd agree or have similar narratives but I think they'd fight side by side well.
Closing thoughts : I love all four of these characters and I think all have incredibly intricate and interesting narratives, and so I think comparing them also leads to interesting discussions. Ultimately I think that their worlds are different to find exact comparisons, but it's still a fun draw to make. What are your thoughts?

No Context Comics: A Look at 3 Books I Don't Read from the Week of October 2nd
Welcome to a new edition of Urbane Turtle’s regular column, No Context Comics! Here, I review 3 new comics from series I don’t read. How do they work in a vacuum? How do the creators engage or fail to engage new readers? This week, I look at Free Agents #4 from Image, Marvel’s Ultraman x Avengers #2, and DC’s Plastic Man No More #2! Free Agents #4 Image. Kurt Busiek & Fabian Nicieza, Writers.…

Pinned; @ Reveseke
Request status: open, albeit real slow lol.
Fanfiction & reader insert writer, writing for enby/gq, men, ftm & men/boy-aligneds folk.
I do not consent to having my writing be reposted onto other public platforms such as fanfiction.com, AO3, Wattpad and such.
—
Credits; icon art by astrolavas on picrew (@/astrolavas on Tumblr as well) // Flags in icon: genderqueer & a-spec. // Editing & layout/icon mask: done by me.
—
Anons; 🕷️,
-
BYF/I
- I don't write for women and aligned, I don't write female characters in a romantic sense either on this blog.
- I don't write smutt, but I may write suggestive content.
- I do write gore & heavier themes, thus interact at your own risk and please heed any and all warnings. I cannot curate your own experiences on the media, you should be able to do that yourself. :)
- I am an adult (18).
——
The fandom list I work with primarily; marvel (spiderverse, BH6, avengers), Ninjago, dreamzzz, Lego monkie kid, HTTYD/HTTYD:RTTE, COD franchise, BNHA, Cobra Kai, Criminal minds, Voltron, Z nation, Transformers, DC (Flash, The legend of tomorrow, Young justice.), My Bloody Valentine, webtoons (SBG, the croaking, the Adam, the city of blank, and not even bones.)
You're more than free to request for other fandoms as well, just send me an ask asking about a certain fandom and I'll take a look into it before answering ya on whether or not I'll take the request. :)
My masterlist of every thing I've written as of now!
—
General boundaries of writing;
I don't mind whump or gore requests, I can write horror just fine including body horror and these are generally something that might pop around on my blog as well. I can also write dark fiction to an extent but I'll decide what I'll add from the request suggestions; say obsessive characters, stalking, murder, and such. Main & general character death is also on the table if interested. I can do suggestive content, but that's about it.
I can write about disabilities and neurodiverse readers.
I don't write smut or NSFW here (see me on @reveitful for that.), I don't write for female characters romantically as of now or female readers. I won't write about animal cruelty, child abuse, abusive relationships, S/A, or pedophilic or consangamory content.
——
When requesting or generally sending asks please refrain from using fonts (on and off platform.), Colored text, and especially the <s> small text. I'm not going to take a headache to read one, I'm going to delete it instead. I'm low vision and fonts and colored text make me nauseated and are generally eyestrainy and hard to read for me.
When requesting please don't be afraid to describe the reader if there's specific things about them you want to see when I write, add pronouns in the mix if there are specific ones you want me to use for the reader. Don't be afraid to describe the setting and what you want to see in the first place in the fic, this only helps me as vague requests are harder to make. AUs and such are welcomed here.
Please take note that I'm allowed to decline a request if I see it fit to be done.
~~~
About writer; Called Koiri or Benne. Uses he/it as auxiliary pronouns, full set is xe/shy/sie. Genderqueer transboy and sapphillean aroace tendencies.
(xe/xem/xer/xers/xerself, sie/sien/sier/siers/sienself & Shy/shym/shyr/shyrs/shyself.)
I'm dyslexic, I'm neurodivergent on the general level, and I'm a heavily suspected undiagnosed inatenttive ADHD case lol. My grammar may be shit, I'm not a native/first language english speaker, I'm Finnish.
My interests are in medical & splatterpunk horror, whump, taxidermy, and vulture culture.
「 GET TO KNOW YOUR RP PARTNER! 」
( repost, please don’t reblog )
「BASICS」
▐ NAME: perseus (percy) ▐ PRONOUNS: any ▐ SEXUALITY: girls! ▐ TAKEN OR SINGLE: single ▐ FIVE FACTS:
i really love animals! in my life i've owned cats, dogs, turtles, lizards (bearded dragons and skinks), snakes, hedgehogs, hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, fish, frogs, snails, tarantulas, ducks, chickens, lovebirds, and parakeets. currently i own several dogs, two cats, a turtle, three ball pythons, a boa constrictor, and a brazilian rainbow boa. ask me about them if you want to see 8 billion pictures.
throughout my childhood and adult life i've lived in five different states, all up and down the east coast! despite this though i have never visited a state outside of the east united states.
archery is a big hobby of mine, even if i don't have nearly as much time to do it right now. i started out using a child's fiberglass compound when i was a kid, but grew out of it within a couple years and now use a wooden recurve bow. it's for this reason that actors holding bows incorrectly in movies makes me go on unhinged rants, sorry anyone who's friends with me.
i'm a big dnd player! i started out playing with friends i met in the rp scene (shoutout to mod mimosa you a real one) and now have a dedicated in-person group with my friends who play weekly or bi-weekly. and despite always saying dnd we actually play mostly pathfinder, mostly 1st edition but we've been dipping our toes into 2e recently. pls ask me about my characters i would die for them.
i'm like. a huge nerd, traditionally speaking. i am a fountain of useful or useless information about comic books and stars wars. i've been following both marvel and dc comics since i was in middle school, and in high school i added star wars to my list of nerd obsessions. the batfam and young avengers are beloved to me, and my favorite star wars characters are ezra bridger, ahsoka tano, and cal kestis!
「EXPERIENCE」
▐ HOW LONG (YEARS/MONTHS): 13-ish years? give or take? maybe a little longer even, i'm not 100% sure ▐ PLATFORMS USED: mostly tumblr, but i started out forum rp'ing on a super old website. i've dabbled a little in discord rp'ing but it didn't really stick ▐ BEST EXPERIENCE: oh geeze uhhh. it's really hard to pick when you've been at it so long. tbh tho if anyone was in aod at the time and remembers, the gnome wars really stuck in my head. i don't think i'd ever had so much fun roleplaying before, it gave me such great and super fond memories
「MUSE PREFERENCES」
▐ MALE/FEMALE/OTHER: i tend to have mostly male muses, but when i do muse a female character i cherish her a lot ▐ FAVORITE FACECLAIM: i've never really needed one before. if i'm doing a mun post i just kind of scroll through my icons and pick a sacrifice ▐ FLUFF, ANGST, OR SMUT: i'm not one for smut at all, but i do very much enjoy angst. fluff is also good but i'm a sucker for angst in general
▐ PLOTS OR MEMES: plots! memes are nice but they can burn me out if i do too many of them. that's why i tend to only participate in meme day once every couple of weeks or so ▐ LONG OR SHORT REPLIES: long replies bc i'm apparently not capable of controlling myself or my writing. i like short replies too but it seems no matter what i do they turn into long replies eventually ▐ BEST TIME TO WRITE: at night in my room, with a show (a lot of times from the muse i'm writing for) playing in the bg for white noise ▐ ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSES: sometimes yes sometimes no. i definitely feel like i have a type, but also a lot of times i wildly veer off from it so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it really depends
I already made a post mildly critical of how the Justice League International had very few international members, so now let's do something similar for Marvel and The Avengers. Don't take this too seriously, it's just a mild criticism I want to write down. I don't hate the groups I'll mention, but I have something I want to say:
I do not hate the West Coast Avengers. I haven't read them, but their members seem good. That being said, I must say: It feels like it's a bit of a waste. Because ultimately, we're still dealing with America. And while Marvel does have more international superhero representation than DC (in my opinion, at least), it feels like we could have had some version of the Avengers not based america. And maybe my slight anti-americanism is sneaking in here and making me biased, but I just wanted to write this down before I forget. Please don't be too upset with me. Because they seem like a fine team, I just needed to articulate this thought. And they were an easy target to explain how we could have gotten a non-american avengers spin-off book.
Edit: I'm paranoid people will still misunderstand, so one more clarification. I do not hate the West Coast Avengers. I hate how everything is typically localized to America amongst the big superhero companies.
AU: Earth–129916 | Cast
Earth–129916 is a universe that I have been writing for a few months for a series of stories that I will publish in AO3. The stories will be published first in my native language (Spanish); later, I will translate them into English.
This universe mixes concepts from comics, movies and series. Above all, from the following canonical universes:
Earth–616
Earth–20051 (Marvel Adventures Comics)
Earth–199999 (MCU)
Earth–12041 (Avengers Assemble)
You can see all my posts from this universe (including my face claims/fancast for each character ▬some of them match MCU actors/actresses and others don't; It should also be noted that I've chosen to give other roles to some MCU actors/actresses instead of their original roles▬) in this tag: «my au: earth 129916».
Looking at my bookshelf and remembering all the books I loved at different points in my life.
In elementary school, I was big into the Young Jedi Knights series and the original DnD (not forgotten realms) novels. Dsd always read them first then would tell me which words not to saw and which parts to not think to hard about (sex scenes in particular, which like, I followed instructions and glossed over them then only realized what they were when I was in like middle school). Also really liked the Pip and Flinx story even if the concepts and world building were a bit too convoluted for my little mind to understand. Also a big fan of Aquamarine and Indigo.
I devoured just about every book given to me and wasn't known to hate any book until I had to read Bridge to Terebithia. I rage quit that book so hard I had an autistic meltdown. The backup book was The Giver and I discovered the second book I ever hated lol. Just not a fan of the author's style as I would later learn when reading her books. And that's okay.
In middle school, I tore through the Wheel of Time books (which easily get over 1k pages depending on edition). I was a big Horse Girl, and religiously kept up with some Horse Girl series (I no longer have them nor remember the names). I was also a Dolphin girl and there was a similar situation there as well
I was also in a lunch-hour bookclub at the school library where we would read some of the new releases in the publishing world. Some were good and I enjoyed them, but not enough to make me buy them or keep up with thenrest of the series if it was a stand alone (I didn't even know Rangers Apprentice was getting more books- i blinked and there were 20 of them). I *did* keep up with The 5 Ancestors because the plot had a choke hold on me and got me really interested in learning on my own about that time period in Chinese history.
Artemis Fowl was my big Beloved series. A delight to read. Lost Colony was/is my favorite in the series and its signed ❤. Also enjoyed a one off called Cryptic Hunters (at least I hoped it stayed a one off). The Frog Princess series was a favourite for its world building and concepts, but I kinda fell off when one day I saw it had expanded past the initial 3 books wherin the 3rd really wrapped everything up neatly. I was also really into X-Men comics at the time (House of M had just happened). New Excalibur was my favourite from then. Talia my beloved......
And of course, bionicle books my beloved..... I forget the exact circumstances, but at one point, I was reading in class (oops lol, my teacher at this point could trust me to learn and retain the material on my own time) and the characters happened to start talking about some property of electricity that was exactly what my teacher was teaching us about...... That was a weird moment.
Middle school was also the year I became brave enough to read Jurassic Park (and lost world) (don't look at me i was a weenie as a kid) and that remains, to this day, my favourite book ever.
High school was my manga era. My Naruto, Fruits Basket, FMA, and Bleach collections have sadly been lost to time, but most of my CLAMP books were from then since Tokyopop was still a mega prominent company in America. Among my other favourites, I still have the code geass manga (the show without mecha), Demon Diary (hear me out.....), Hetalia, and Descendants of Darkness.
Also got more into Marvel comics then, esp the first run of Young Avengers and Children's Crusade. I wouldn't get into DC until uhhhhhhhh 2013???? Roughly??? Maybe 2014.... Anyways, my favorite book-books from that era were either school assigned ones I loved (Great Gatsby....) or not so well written self published on Amazon dark gay supernatural books...
I discovered fanfiction in 8th grade via bionicle and that was that....... I read so much naruto, bleach, and Hetalia fanfiction specifically in high school. The fics i enjoyed then I would prolly not enjoy now lol (a lot of high school aus but I was also..... in high school.... and not in my 30s). There were some genres of fic i loved starting out, then hated for the longest time, now love again (OCs........ give me your OCs, your isekais, your dimension hopping......). The internal (and external) misogyny in myself was pretty bad in high school and early college. Letting go of that was the best thing I ever did. I am cringe but free.
Idk why i decided to suddenly drop a diary entry on here. As I typed, I would remember old things I had forgotten and added them in. Perhaps its because I have a memory disorder now, that I cherish knowing this more than ever. Dont mind me, I hope I find this again in a year or 2 or 3 and get to remember again :)
Hello! I'm Juno (she/her) and i'm the mod of the account. Everything is queued to once a day!
Submit and Ask are open!!
FAQ under cut!!
Can I submit in an edit/post to edit?
Yes! Make sure to send the original post as well! Or a link is also good! I will credit you as your tumblr user unless you specifiy otherwise
Why dont you make an edit about (insert blorbo)???
I dont wanna
Actual answer, I'm just one little girl (26) and i'm obviously gonna have favorites. And I also don't know every character in the Marvel universe/know them well enough to make posts. You are free to send in whatever posts you want! I try to be fair, but obv the characters I know better are going to be shown more. I try not to double dip until a lot of characters are covered. Inwould make every post about Eyeboy if I could
Can I send/request an edit of (an Avenger/an Inhuman/a Spiderperson/someone not fully an X-Men)?
Yeah!!! I probably draw the line at MCU-specific posts, since I'd rather stick to the comicsverse. But please roast Black Bolt in my askbox it's all I want in life
Can I send in posts about recent comics? Like things that happened after Krakoa?
Give it a week buffer from when the actual comic is released, and not just leaks. I don't know whats happening post-Krakoa
How do you make your posts?
I'm going to be so honest, it's Tweetgen for any tweets, and then picsart for anything else
Can I send a post/edit about a headcanon/ship?
Sure!! As long as they arent weird. please dont be weird.
Can I send a post that's NSFW?
Sure! Any potentially triggering topics are tagged, and things that are on the line are fine! As a general rule, if the comics can show it, it's okay to make a post about.
Who are your favorite Marvel characters?
Thank you so much for asking, my top 5 are Akihiro, Monet St Croix, Illyana Rasputina, Kurt Wagner, and Exodus. From DC, it's Rac Shade, Roy Harper, Garth, the Riddler, and the Penguin SPECIFICALLY from Gotham.
How do you come up with usernames?
I say teehee funny and choose
Can I use your edits for rp purposes? Like moodboards/musings/etc?
Yes!! I just ask that you add credit if it isn't being directly reposted from me
What episode of Cerebro are you on?
The David Alleyne episode!
Feel free to send me any asks you have!
🦁 my favorite ships
From @theeclipse
//Are these my favorite ships from fandoms or favorite ships for my OCs? I can kinda do both since I have the time.
OC Ships (These are just some or else I'd be talking for HOURS):
JohnnieXLucifer: Johnnie is actually an OC inspired by the song The Devil Went Down to Georgia. I think it's a really perfect pair to have her accidentally fall for the man who tried to make a deal for her soul. It's very much an enemies to lovers situation.
RoxyXBen Reilly: This one was full of angst because I used to have a verse where Roxy dated a Peter Parker who passed away. Seeing Ben was like getting a second chance but also a completely clean slate because Ben was a completely different person.
DarrenxMayday Parker: A longggg time ago I had a partner who played Mayday. She was probably the first person I ever got to use Darren with and they were just so cute together. Just two kids in love with family members who knew each other from crime fighting.
Normal Fandom Ships
Marvel Shame Column:
Stucky: As a Cap 2 Groupie, I will not be explaining myself.
SamBucky: As a Sam Wilson groupie, I will not be explaining myself.
Black Hill: I should be able to explain this one. Yet I can't. They're coworkers. It's just too good.
Shuriri: A new one that is just very very cute. I hope we get some more content for this in the comics or something. I'll take table scraps at this point.
Amerikate: This one is much bigger in the comics and we'll likely NEVER see it in the movies. .
Carhodey: Another comic one that I think is tasty and deserves a little hintage in the movies. Not likely but a girl can dream.
Thororo: *screams* That is all.
Claire Temple and Matt Murdock: I do not know why this has no ship name. There was tension here and I guess I'm the only one who saw it that way.
DC:
WonderBat: The cartoons really seal the deal on this one for me. There's something about Diana being the one constantly trying to break past his broody boy shell that scratches an itch in my brain.
Harlivy: Sometimes healing is dating that hottie that has similar hobbies as you (doing crime in Gotham) and that's beautiful. A wonderful ship truly. So nice to see something that started off as a crackship in the fandom bloom into fully canon.
Star Wars:
FinnxRey: I wanted this. I wanted this so hard. And I got...NOTHING
FinnPoe: We all wanted this. Everyone liked this. And here we are. We were fools.
Weird Fandom Ships (Under Read More because I talk for a longggg time.)
Disney Ships
TianaXMulan: No I cannot explain. In like 2009 there was this massive community of people on YouTube who would edit Disney princess characters together like they were in love with all sorts of music and whatever. I honestly think this foundation of YouTube edits is what transitioned into all those Rise of the Tangled Brave Dragons edits that plagued the 2010s. Anyway there were a LOT with Tiana and Mulan and it just felt right.
TianaXSteve Rogers: Similar vein of Disney content but later. After the 2012 Avengers movie came out the Disney Youtube editors were shipping these cartoons with the live action Avengers. Hilarious but I genuinely think they would've had good chemistry. When I started rping as Tiana on Tumblr I did have some really good threads with a Steve Rogers rper who I don't think is active anymore.
TianaXCharlotte La Bouff: I promise these are not all Tiana ships but the Tiana ships are the ones I remember so vividly in my fandom life. This one is so good and honestly I'm fine with them in a throuple that has Naveen in it too. I think Tiana just deserves all the love she can get her hands on.
OUAT Ships
Swan Queen: I stg I was robbed. All OUAT ever did was piss me off and spit in my salad. You wanna talk about enemies to lovers you COWARDS? COPARENTING POTENTIAL? ABC WHEN I FIND YO- I have only once exception to my love of this ship and that one is below.
SwanFire: listen JUST please. I'll never forgive ABC for this one. Neil was the most interesting original character and they just fridge my man like that. There was so much potential for forgiveness and growth with these two. And they just REFUSE to let good men win.
how are dc characters and superhero groups incorporated into this roleplay if it's marvel based?
hi there x right now, the only official teams/groups are the avengers and shield. if you'll notice, we it's not just dc groups that are being excluded. we also currently don't have the fantastic four, x-men, etc. as active groups in our roleplay at the moment. members are welcome to bring characters from a variety of source materials, but plot drops will be mostly based on mcu. full disclosure, the mods are more well-versed in marvel and the mcu. we decided to allow dc characters as that was a question that kept coming up. we want to include dc characters as much as we can with the knowledge we, as mods, have and encourage anyone who has dc muses to join. having said that, we want to maintain a sense of continuity for the world of the roleplay, so we are a little selective and careful. marvel is our personal niche and that's what the majority of things will be based on. we're trying to do our best to be as inclusive to dc characters and plots as we can. ♡ edited to say that we do have some dc muses in play that I'm sure would like the plot with you if you bring more characters in.
tl;dr - DC (and other source material) characters are totally welcome, plot drops and settings are currently just marvel-based. avengers and shield are currently the only superhero organizations/groups we have in play.
What You Need to Know about Namor and Talokan
I haven't done a comics-explainer post in awhile. Thought maybe now would be good. Except this isn't just about comics now, it's also about some real world mythology.
In the comics, Namor was one of Marvel's oldest superheroes. He was created in 1939, the same year as Superman. You may know that most of Marvel's biggest superheroes were created by Stan Lee. But Lee's best-known work happened after World War II, during the 1960s. So unlike DC, Marvel doesn't really have that many "Golden Age" superheroes.
Though some of the Marvel Golden Age characters have been retconned and reimagined in newer stories, only three really have been consistently popular since their original publication: Captain America, Namor and the Human Torch.
So Namor is important, not just because he is a powerful character in the comics, but because he was integral in Marvel's early publishing success in the real world. (Marvel, like many other comics publishers, struggled to stay in business during the 1950s because of a crackdown on comics as a "bad influence" on young people.) He's one of these three that kept the company in business.
He is, of course, also important for in-story reasons. Notably, Namor is considered Marvel's first mutant. That is, he was the first mutant character to have stories published about him by Marvel. Though he wasn't revealed to be a mutant until the 60s, he had books about him dating since the 30s, if that makes sense. (This was confusing to me as a kid because we knew there were older mutants inside the comic book continuity, nor the first to utter the word "mutant" but the first mutant superhero in our real-world chronology, if that makes sense.) I mention this because it will probably come up that he is the "first mutant" in press, as the world is dying for the X-Men to be introduced into the MCU.
It would make perfect sense if Namor is included in "The Mutants" or other mutant-related MCU projects. He is known to be part of the X-Men team in the crossover event "A v X", when the X-Men fought the Avengers. (I'm not going to get into the specifics there regarding the Phoenix force, but just known he was Team X.)
Inside the books, Namor is both Human/Mutant and Atlantean. Atlantis is the fictional world under the sea. In comics, his father is a human (with a mutant gene) and his mother is a princess of Atlantis. Thus he has both the powers of Atlanteans and human mutants. Because one set of superpowers isn't enough!
It seems, from the trailer, that in the film Namor will still be half-human but rather that his mother was human and his father was from Talokan.
In Mexica/Aztec traditions, Tlālōcān is a paradise ruled by the rain god Tlaloc. The name "Atlantis" has been removed for the film, as "Wakanda Forever" is trying to root this fictional world in Mesoamerican traditions, not Greek ones. As a mythology nerd, I will point out that Tlaloc is the name the Aztecs/Mexica used for the rain god but the Mayans used the name Chaac. There seems to be some picking and choosing with names because "K'uk'ulkan" is referenced in the trailer and that is the Mayan name for the god the Aztecs would have called Quetzalcoatl, which is the opposite choice.
In any case, it is not "Atlantis" in the film and it is also Talokan with a k not a c, which seems to give some distinction between the mythical place and underwater kingdom of the film.
The war cry used by the kingdom in the film translates to "Talokan rises" and is their version of "Wakanda forever".
But back to Namor himself. What are his powers? We don't really know exactly what he can do in the film, but in the comics, he's super strong and durable--something he gets from the non-human side of his family. He's over 100 years old but still looks good in tiny swim shorts. (Edit update: Tenoch Huerta said in a press conference that the film version of Namor is over 500 years old. This lines up with the speculation that the old timey scenes we see in the trailer are of the Spanish conquest of "the New World." So we may see his people forced into the sea to survive.)
His mutant abilities are related to the wings on his ankles, that give him the ability to fly. They also seem to have amplified his non-human powers, making him stronger and more durable than the regular undersea dwellers in the comics.
In the trailers, we see him easily deflecting attacks, suggesting he is as durable as the comics (where he can just stand there while people shoot at him with guns). He can also fly via the wings on his feet. Most notably, we see him using an ability to control water.
In the comics, Namor stole his hydrokinetic powers from the Spider-man villain Hydro-man. But it makes more sense to simply give him these in the film, as possibly mutant abilities. It is more impressive than feet wings (though those are adorable).
Namor is often an antagonist but also often a hero. This comes from his differing perspective from land-dwelling humans. Like, he did come out of the water to fight Hitler, for example. And he will help with alien attacks that might destroy the entire planet, but he is often at odds with humanity itself. (And to be fair, we do pollute his ocean and kill his people so maybe we deserve it.)
Namor and T'Challa are rivals in the comics, though they are also both teammates on the Illuminati at times (yes, those guys that Wanda killed in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.) And, it should be noted, he has a particularly history with the Fantastic Four as well. It was the Human Torch (Johnny Storm, the second hero to carry this moniker) who helped him regain his memories and restore his powers in the 1960s. He is also often portrayed as in love with Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, putting him at odds with Reed Richards, her husband.
Many hope that Namor in "Wakanda Forever" will help set up both the X-Men and the Fantastic Four in the MCU.
"Namor" is pronounced "Nay-mor" in the comics. In the film it will be pronounced that way and also "Nah-mor" (meaning "no amor" or no love), an intentional commentary about the way Latinx people often have their names mispronounced by the masses.
⭐️10 Characters, 10 Fandoms, 10 Tags⭐️
I was tagged by @just-an-enby-lemon which I can't see on the actual post which I blame tumbr but I was curious to see who I prioritize! The order I do these characters in probably isn't listed in the most to least favorite but they will be top 10 characters!
1. Percy Jackson- The Lightning Thief
YES I am the simpleton who likes main characters but in my defense they were made to be liked!!! This is not my fault. I loved his humor and the way he cared for his friends and the series is still my favorite book series!!!
2. Asagiri Gen- Dr. Stone
YOU GUYS! I'm so obsessed with this man I bought a figure!!! I'm a sucker for people who seem suspicious but are good people and Gen is just so cool! I love him literally using psychological tactics so they can save the day! The manga has ended and I'm devastated but the new anime season is coming this January so I'm looking forward to that!!! (I have soooo many Gen pics I've saved that I had to look through)
3. Reigen Arataka- Mob Psycho 100
THIS MAN IS SO GOOD. HE'S BEEN MY FAVORITE EVER SINCE HE DID HIS STUPID "HYPNOSIS PUNCH"!!! WHAT A LEGEND. Honestly he's such a dad and collects espers like currency as he BS's his way through life. I love him so much and I wrote a fic for this fandom and he is definitely in it because I love him. It's almost done too! Had a 5k writing session and now I just have to edit this monster and I'm done!!!
4. Suzuki Iruma- Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun
THIS MANGA IS SO UNDERRATED AND IT IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE ONE!!! I have a hard time picking my favorite character in this manga so main character it is. He's a good boy and I love him learning how to have dreams. I don't like the anime as much as the manga, but I highly reccomend both!!! Season 3 is coming this October and I'm soooo ready!!!!
5. Sung Hyunjae- The S-Classes that I Raised
GUYS. THIS MAN IS SO GOOD. Not like in a moral sense but I love him. I loved him even before he was handsome through art because the novel gives him so much great content. He's literally so gay for the main character I was genuinely confused if the author was going to have them end up together. He's such a little shit but he's funny and that's all I need from him. Also can confirm that he's pretty, which is also a plus.
6. Howard Link- D.Grayman
This was a huge battle between Allen and LINK but Link has slowly crept into my heart and taken it hostage. He's a complicated character who you can't tell is going to side with at times, but he does his best even if his decisions are wrong and he trusts the wrong people. Also. He's pretty. I'm a sucker for pretty people i'll be truthful here.
7. Hulk- Avengers Earth's Mighest Heroes
A lot of people haven't seen this version of the animated avengers show, and that's devastating! Usually Spider-Man is my favorite Marvel character overall but this show really put my love for the Hulk on max. The entire show was a gem, but I loved the interactions Bruce and Hulk had in this show. They had a deal. Hulk would be out, and Hulk would do good. He wanted freedom but he was used to not getting it and had trouble trusting people. HULK WASN'T JUST MUSCLE. He had his own thoughts and feelings. Anyways watch this show.
8. Billy Batson(Captain Marvel)- DC
I didn't really choose a specific place for where Billy is my favorite character, but he is for sure my favorite! Second place is Dick Grayson because he's Damian's dad BUT ANYWAY. I loved his bright view on the world and the way he kept to his morals. They've changed him a bit from that first impression, but it'll always be my favorite. I also loved the Shazam movie so I guess I'm not too picky lol. He's a good kid and I think he should just not be found out by the Justice League and they can just be confused as Batman tries to figure out why Captain Marvel thinks it's fine to talk like a 10/14 year old.
9. Phoenix Wright- Ace Attorney
I have never actually played this game but I watched a playthrough through the first one and just got the rest of my knowledge from fanfic lol. But he's a fun quirky guy who means well and I like that about him! Also he's totally in love with Miles Edgeworth so they should really just get married.
10. Kozume Kenma- Haikyu
I love this anime to bits and this man had my heart from the start. Suga is number two but Kenma is the ultimate favorite. My best friend painted me a haikyu poster with him as the center and I love it to bits. I love his friendship with Hinata and I just think he's neat!
This was a lot of fun but I started blanking around for favorite characters around number 8 whoops!!! I either went for pretty obscure or well known so there isn't any in between whoops! I can't tag many people bc I have no courage so here is some (you don't have to if you don't want to!) @irumaismybaby @alyss-spazz-penedo @humangerbil @mostlyinconvenient
Do you not like Marvel? No judgement either way, but if you don't like Marvel...you are not alone. It's so hard finding ANYONE who dislikes it. To me it's just nonsense action garbage. Yes, I've watched Iron Man, Spiderman (Tom Holland edition), even gave Avengers a shot. No. Just...ugh. DC does characterization better (the comics at least). Batman superiority. 🦇
I like the Marvel comics enough (though I am more of a DC fan). It's just that I am really really tired of the MCU.
