24 - What’s one thing you’re proud of yourself for?

I guess it really says a lot about me that this question threw me in a complete loop for 3 days 😅 Not because I am terribly bad at stuff or completely boring. But compared to the truly amazing stuff some people do it’s just more little things... like completing hikes I really wasn't ready for, leaving home to start somewhere new every now and then, making my sister devour one of my favorite eggplant dishes (you have to know my sister to appreciate how truly amazing that is ^_^), being kind and supportive to people who objectively deserved to be shouted out of the room... rather than one big achievement.

But well, let's go with this: You know I work with a lot of STEM nerds. Which I love. Truly. But sometimes they don't really get how things they can do in their sleep are more challening to a humanities graduate like me. So I am quite proud that I managed to teach myself a few weird software solutions they LOVE but I absolutely DETEST. Few things frustrate me as much as technology not doing my bidding immediately. So I guess, in a way, it is quite an achievement that I persevered and am now at least halfway competent in LaTeX and a few other tools no one needs or has even heard of outside of academia ^_^

Hudson and Rex S03E02 - Manhunt

I can't really say that this episode lives up to the title. Not that it's bad, the title is just inaccurate. There's also a bit more Charlie backstory.

I believe the actor who plays Danny is the guy who will be in the new St. Pierre show.

How long has that guy been unconscious?

I'm trying to decide if sending Sarah to cozy up with the Danny's pregnant wife to get information is a dick move or not.

Sarah: *explains Onion routing* Joe: I'm surrounded by nerds. Jesse: Nerds unite!

I'm having a hard time believing that Rex's nose or ears didn't pick up that Danny was right behind Charlie and didn't alert him in time. Not to mention that Charlie was also on high alert. He should have heard him himself.

"Damn. This shit again."

"The dog goes in there". And then Rex takes a look and turns to Danny like, "Fuck no, it's dirty" lol

"These are terrible accommodations! I want to speak to your manager!"

"I can't even bark? This is fascism."

So grade 8 is apparently for 12-13year olds. We don't have the same system here, our 8th grade corresponds to the grade 13-14year olds would go to, because kindergarten is not counted among school years, and used to be non-compulsory at least when I was a kid (that's probably changed now).

Once more, Charlie has to give up his gun and handcuffs.

I mean, I don't want to throw too much shade on this show, because every cop show did the same thing and most of them ended up with the characters sounding off. Also, right before that, Charlie told her to get whatever she could about Danny from Lyn, so...

Some of what Jesse explains about the tech they were using to steal from people is factual, and the rest is garbage.

I'd forgotten how many times Danny had threatened to shoot Rex. I like him less now.

Danny: Where the hell is he? Rex: Look up, asshole.

"Who is that, friend of yours?" He shot at him, Charlie.

Charlie called someone else stubborn! Pot, meet kettle.

That's a good look. But I guess we need a tie with the suit in case we have to triage someone.

"You're gonna hand me over?" "It's tempting." "Wouldn't be the first time". The plot thickens. Or Charlie's backstory, anyway.

So Charlie and Danny had stolen something from a store at one time, they got blamed when I'm guessing there was another theft incident in the same store and the store owner had called the cops on them, Charlie had told his dad about it and that they hadn't stolen anything, his dad believed him and convinced the owner but he also told Danny's dad who was abusive. And Charlie didn't know the last part, and he never talked to Danny again. Having seen Charlie's dad now, I could see him asking Charlie to cut off ties with Danny. Anyway, it's pretty funny to think of Charlie as a troublemaker.

The most unrealistic part about all this is that people heard the gunshot with the music blasting.

Once again, Sarah arrives at the right time to be taken hostage.

Charlie's inner monologue: Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck-

Sometimes the show is telling us loudly that Sarah is the woman Charlie likes and others, like this one, they do it subtly. For the non-believers (not that it matters anymore), there is no reason for Sarah to be in this scene. Sarah just goes along with Lyn because Lyn is heavily pregnant. Lyn seems to be able to carry herself just fine and is, in fact, the one to drive them there. The reason they put Sarah in that scene is because Lyn is the woman Danny cares about and Sarah is the woman Charlie cares about. Note that Charlie would want to help Lyn or Danny anyway, so adding Sarah is just to show that parallel. And wisely, whoever wrote the script realized that to do so without having Sarah offer anything to the scene would put her in a damsel-in-distress position, so they have her disarm the bad guy after Rex's charge.

Guys, we really need a safeword for when someone is kidnapped.

RIP to the shot of Charlie and Sarah with their weapons drawn together. Why did no one think to hold the camera on them for a few seconds, why can't we have nice things?

"You okay?" "Yeah". He also wanted to say, "And you look so fucking hot with that shotgun," but he's a gentleman and this is a family show.

And a nice chase at the end to give Rex a proper takedown scene.

What would you need from the fans of How To Dance In Ohio for a ProShot to be streamed somewhere like Broadway HD or similar? Would it need to be a Kickstarter or a social media campaign? Is there anyone we can write to? Part of my reason for asking is selfish, since I would love to see the show, but this show is also historic and groundbreaking in a lot of different ways and I also think your amazing performances need to be preserved as a part of Broadway history.

I know this is probably a really sad time for you and the rest of the Ohio cast/creative team and even if a ProShot never happens and nothing ever comes of it, just know that you, all of you, touched more lives and hearts than you could possibly know just by being who you are.

Thanks so much for asking. This is something we have been discussing with the producers, because obviously we'd all love it to happen too.

Warning: incoming info-dump, albeit a grossly oversimplified one:

It would cost about $3M to produce a pro-shot. Here's an incomplete list of where that money would go:

-The regular costs of the venue itself--which, when you include rent, utilities, and staff salaries (security, bartenders, ushers, custodians, all the people who are just in charge of maintaining the Belasco), comes out to about $1K a minute.

-The labor of obtaining necessary permits for filming onsite.

-The labor of the film crew, including load-in, setup, and breakdown of equipment, and coordinating with stage management to make sure their shooting doesn't get in the way of backstage choreography, and making any adjustments accordingly

-The collaboration between the film crew and the in-house sound crew to make sure the audio is captured and balanced properly

-The labor of post-production: editing, color correction, sound adjustment, etc.

-There are also different contracts (and higher pay) for the actors, stage managers, stage crew, sound crew, lighting crew, and wardrobe crew, in addition to our current contracts wherein we're just doing the show as usual. This can get particularly complicated with the actors and stage managers, since our Broadway contracts are through Actors' Equity Association (the union for stage actors and stage managers) but the contract for having our work filmed and distributed in theaters or on streaming platforms is under SAG-AFTRA (the union for film actors).

This is not a complete list, but to give you some context: that's about what it would cost just to make the thing. The costs and logistics of actually distributing it is a different story altogether, and a lot of that would depend on strategizing around future productions and making sure the availability of the pro-shot wouldn't compromise, say, a national tour. I'm not a producer and don't have the numbers and the research, but what I'd love to see happen is, the pro-shot gets a limited theatrical release to coincide with a national tour, and then gets released to streaming platforms when the tour is wrapped. (Of course, as an elder millennial who's genetically incapable of not being financially stressed, I don't care where or how it's released as long as I get those residual checks lol.)

As to your question of crowdfunding: as far as I understand it (and I'm not an entertainment lawyer so I likely have very incomplete information, so don't take my word at total face value): in order to crowdfund for a pro-shot, the producers would likely need to establish a new business entity and it would have to be a nonprofit entity so it could legally solicit donations from the public. Broadway shows are commercially produced, and each iteration of the commercially-produced production has its own business entity. When the show was in workshops and in Syracuse, the business entity was "Amigos in Ohio, LLC." The Broadway entity is "Amigos on Broadway, LLC." The only difference it makes on my end is the name that shows up on my bank statement when I get my direct deposit every week, but the difference it makes from a producer perspective is much more significant and it has a big effect on how productions are legally and ethically allowed to be funded, and again I'm not an entertainment lawyer so explaining what those differences are is beyond me.

I will say, however, Ken Davenport has been a real innovator when it comes to how shows can be produced--in 2010, he launched what eventually became the first crowdfunded Broadway musical with the Godspell revival. I know very little about how all of that actually works, but I do think something like that would be a boon to the industry in the year of our dark Majestic Theater 2024. And it would also give the fans a way to connect with the material and the business on a deeper and more personal level.

Making this mostly for my discord as per usual, but some people have asked me where I get my files for edits. not tagging this with anything since the more people who know about these, the more they will be targeted for takedown...but i'd like other fans to enjoy them as much as i have, too.

Stills: [these are photographs taken during production rather than images pulled from footage, so they tend to be higher quality and have better lighting without the various filters]

Section of Randomess is amazing - free, no ads, great quality, easy to download, but does not update frequently.

Warner Brothers Media very well organized, search by episode, date, etc. all very official as they literally make the show. however these are intended for use in press releases, and you need to have a press account to download the files. still, you can look at all the previews.

MovieStillsDB updates very frequently, has the largest collection of images released by official sources spanning all the various international hbo media accounts. you do need an account to download, and credits, but the most "expensive" credit packages still come out to less than 10c per a photo.

Kinorium this kind of has everything in one place which is nice, but the quality is lower. i usually use it to find an image i like, then right click and 'search image in google' to find a higher resolution version. stills gallery [kinorium]

Cinematerial i think this is the sister site to moviestills, similarly you can browse everything but need credits to download, and they have the same pricing system. still it's pretty great because they have every variant of each poster including international ones, and they offer very high resolution copies.

Screencaps: images pulled ['captured'] from the episodes

there are probably dozens or even hundreds of sites with screencaps, but my favorites have been these two

Cap-That very thorough caps from every episode that can be viewed and downloaded individually in 4K, or downloaded in zips for each episode in standard HD.

and i do mean very thorough. each episode has on average four thousand images.

comparatively the zips from another site [lostintimegraphics] have about one thousand images per an episode.

what makes them "special" in addition to few ads (comparatively) is that they brighten the thumbnails on each page, a MUST to see wtf is going on in some parts, given how dark the show is.

when you click on the thumbnail and download the file, it is unfiltered/as appears in show, it just makes it easier to find the file you want instead of wading through a sea of black thumbnails.

So-Obsessed i think this is managed by a single person and i give them MAJOR props for that. they not only have 4k screencaps of HotD, but also every episode of Game of Thrones.

they are sorted by episode, there is no download a zip option, only individual files. they also have a stills gallery. there are no ads, which is wonderful.

the only reason i prefer cap-that is because they have 3x times the number of images for each page. despite both sites being comparably thorough, on so-obsessed there are 120 pages for episode two, and on cap-that there are 40.

you also can't right click/open in new tab/download images, you have to use their toolbar. it's well designed, just slower for me who is accustomed to the other method.

ok, am done. if you're wondering why the fuck anyone would want screencaps or stills, personally *i* like using them for edits to entertain me in the offseason, see here.

The only thing I want to say is that it's incredibly weird that it's Kim "Privacy" Taehyung. We know how much he values his privacy, we know how private he ALWAYS has been, he talked about being stalked, he thanked us for not bothering him after Hawaii etc. And now suddenly one day he's just out and about, strolling on the streets, without even a mask on or anything? His manager is supposedly there, and they are also not wearing a mask? Why would Hybe sue that person a year ago regarding this relationship if it was true? The first photographer went on tiktok I think and said their bodyguards asked the photographer to take pictures from a distance?? 1) I don't believe that for a minute because that's just weird for ANY celebrity and 2) even if it is true, then they were aware of the photographer? Which is even more weird. But like look me in the eye and name ONE celebrity who will be okay with stalkers taking pictures of them as long as it's from a ✨distance✨

I'm in the same time zone as France, the pictures dropped at yesterday evening - the sun was still up and yet on the pictures it's full on night. So supposedly it was taken a day before? Didn't he JUST land in France? Like Idk but everything is just weird with this. Mainly the part where he was always so protective of his privacy (rightfully so) and now nothing. Not even a mask.

Some things just aren't adding up. Almost as if they wanted to be seen 🤔 It all seems very convenient and staged right now, but I suppose we'll just have to wait for more info. This definitely doesn't strike me as normal Tae behaviour, he is indeed very lowkey and private.

The bodyguard saying he can take photos from a distance is very questionable. And also very convenient. And you're telling me no one else around spotted them? No one else managed to get a more HD picture? Even with all the bodyguards and managers around them attracting attention?

There apparently seems to be some discrepancies with the photos, but we really don't know anything for sure right now. I'm not denying the validity of them, but I'm not banking on them being the whole truth either.

Everything seems to be pointing in a very obvious direction, but I guess that's just me being delusional 🙃

How I Run/Stream The Sims 3 Without My Computer Blowing Up (Yet)

Hi, I had someone while I was streaming TS3 last night ask about my computer and begged me to post a response.

The main reason why my computer handles TS3 well is because I shopped for a laptop with the sole purpose of running it and TS2 in mind.

I did A LOT of research before buying. I have to give credit to r/SimsPlayer2765. Their responses on this Reddit post provide the foundation of what one should look for in a gaming laptop to run TS3:

I confess, the aestheic look and price of this laptop are what made it a winner over others. I love just as much as I did when I bought it two years ago, and it was worth the investment. Getting a quality computer is going to make all the difference, and I feel fortunate I was able to do that.

Now that I stream and do video editing, prioritizing upgrading the hard drive and RAM was important. I significantly upgraded my drive space and plan to upgrade my RAM in the near future.

I looked up SimsPlayer2765 to write this and they are still active on Reddit providing tech and software suggestions for quality TS3 gameplay! If you're reading this, I want to thank you for your dedication and sharing your knowledge with us less tech-savvy folk.

Make amends to who? And for what? And why? What exactly is it they are supposed to have done? It seems oddly specific

I do wonder why a completely different fan blog who also got hacked went very quiet and does exactly what the hackers asked me to do, produce content and reblog on his tags

I'm not getting paid to do anything for anyone, and I certainly won't be blackmailed into silence, but it does make me worry if someone else is in a very similar situation somehow

The only difference with me being it went awry because I refuse to be manipulated and participate in some bizarrely concocted scheme by some wannabe Gray Man social media tag manager

I just happened to know every single rumour that went around since December 2021, I even told the "scammer" that I'd be the star witness of the whole thing given all of the info I got told, they then proceeded to try and pump me for all I knew and then threaten me into silence

In my opinion it's dangerous for anyone to be associated with him online

Okay so I think I managed to watch the majority of the Banter panel (the livestream on the Vidcon YouTube channel had way too many ads but it got better for the last thirty minutes or so if anyone wants to watch it there in HD) I mostly watched it through a fan's livestream on Twitch lmao

My thoughts:

Sapnap and George need to go to therapy man (or "marriage counseling" as Karl said) It was interesting to hear the perspective of Larray, Skeppy, and Kreek in regards to SNF fighting (Larray was on George's side, Skeppy and Kreek were on Sapnap's side...Karl didn't really take a side he just relayed a fight from the airport and gave his perspective) It seems like Sapnap gets really sensitive at perceived slights from George and it escalates whenever George makes snarky replies back but George doesn't try to "de-eslcate" it as Sapnap said. I really hope they can actually work on this because hugging it out isn't a permanent solution but since this was a panel being livestreamed to an audience of thousands I understand they couldn't really get into it lol

Lot of Pixel Playground shout outs from Karl which I guess makes sense since Kreek was there. Its so crazy to me how popular that channel is and the growth it has had over just the two months since its first upload. It has double the amount of Banter subscribers.

I kinda felt bad for Kreek and Skeppy because they didn't really get to talk much it was mostly the Banter boys and Larray talking the whole time lol

All the zodiac sign talk was pretty funny though lol

I was surprised there weren't any audience questions but there were still at least a lot of audience participation with everyone shouting out video games, Sam & Colby, and their verdict on whether Sapnap or George were in the right about their fights (I think asking the audience to raise their hands about this was a misstep because its not like any of them have actually seen SNF fighting irl like the people on the panel) This is a case where I actually would like to know Dream's perspective on SNF and their fights because he knows the most besides Karl but I don't think he would ever get into it cause he wants to portray the Dream team as one big marketable plushie family and discussing how much they fight would hurt that image.

Most of the priests were Mac proper in the beginning and they didn't miss a thing though they missed it all so he's trying to think of how to say it he does manage to it's not with all this killings and stuff it's it's another method and they're actually quite angry with him afterwards then I want Gilligan get hit on the headband skipper songs

like it's definitely got enough capacity for growth/healing, its MP level is (finally!) high enough to do HD Spells (now that I actually started spending all the previous occupant's skill points, and expanding the ((COMPLETELY DORMANT!)) Skill Tree, because like seriously?? it was just sitting there completely untouched??! like he was unintentionally forcing himself to play Life as a soulslike, and he couldn't STAND soulslike games! all because he skipped through part of the tutorial too fast and just... didn't wanna start over! how tf he lasted 20+ years on just beginner-level abilities, sheer determination, and luck [and STILL managed to rack up THIS many skill points??!] is beyond me. buckwild, absolutely unhinged behavior. i honestly kinda wish I could still ask him about it lol), and to top it all off - i'll have MORE than enough mass/energy to work with (since he at least made sure to actually eat even when he was depressed, so thank Hephaestus for that)

Hestia felt nervous. Sure, she felt nervous at her last prom too, but not Going To Prom As A Girl nervous. With a date! Sure, she knew Sonia liked her, and they had great chemestry, from all those months they spent fighting crime with each other on the same team. Secret identities and all that junk. But what if it was a friendly date, or worse, a pity one?! Bad Hestia, focus on the mirror to avoid looking like a member of KISS, no matter how awesome Tyler says they are.

Now, she was wearing a blue prom dress, and putting on makeup. Sonia offered Hestia some space to put her makeup on, seeing as having your roommate/date could potentially worsen her already worsening nerves. Sonia told her she was going to change in Revna's dorm. Revna and Sonia had plans for their clothes if Revna didn't feel like a girl on the D-day, which happened to be the case. Hestia made a mental note of they/them for Revna when Sonia sent her a message.

After listening to some banging music to calm her nerves, because She was going to prom with Sonia Pines, oh my god, she's so cool, and she's just Hestia, I'm gonna mess this up-

Knock knock knocking on Hestia's door.

"You done?"

"Yeah."

Wow! She actually managed not to stutter! Maybe there is hope- oh god, Sonia is wearing a suit. Brain shortcircuiting, sapphic.exe stopped working. The only coherent thought in her mind is, Oh my god, my face is going to melt my makeup.

"Wow."

That wasn't her voice, was it? Wait...

"You look so pretty, I... wow."

If you could get high on euphoria, Hestia figures she was the biggest stoner in the world.

Sonia's suit was a dark purple, over a black shirt and a purple tie.

"It was my dad's. Grandpa kept it, asked if I could wear it to prom. I like to think dad would like that."

She offered a hand to Hestia.

The music was loud, Sonia winced and sent a quick message to Hestia to tell her she has to put headphones to deal with it. She waited for Hestia to nod to put them on. Sonia smiled, and took Hestia to the snack bar, to fill up on food. Sonia then put a soda can in her left pocket.

"Men and their pockets." Sonia said smiling at Hestia, who couldn't help but laugh, as she hd to get used to crappy pockets.

As the slow dance started, Sonia asked Hestia if she could put her hands on her waist, not before flipping off some transphobes.

They made their way outside.

"Is it as magical as people say it is in fiction?" asked Sonia, putting her soda can on her forehead to cool off.

"Way more akward."

"I don't mind being akward with you."

Welp. If Hestia had any doubts she was in love with Sonia, these doubts just got demolished like one of these hot dogs with mustard, pickles and onions Sonia likes.

Sonia put her hand on Hestia's. She got closer. It was happening. Oh my god.

Sonia looked as nervous as Hestia felt.

"Can I?..."

Hestia nods.

Their lips meet, and Hestia melts. So that's what kissing is supposed to feel like. Sure she enjoyed kissing her first girlfriend, but with Sonia, she was just girl, kissing her girlfriend-

"Girlfriends? As in the lover kind?" asked Sonia, nervously.

"As in the lover kind." said Hestia, before starting kissing Sonia again.

It's time for another Animatic Deep Dive!!

For those of you who haven't seen me do this before, I always like to do a massive post digging into my animatics after they get uploaded. This'll include a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff, HD stills, and a whooole lot of insight into shot choices and cinematic storytelling. All my rambling is under the 'keep reading' break!

Before I say anything, here's the link to the animatic, if you haven't watched it yet or want easier access to it while reading through this post:

I always love showing my shot sheets, and I'm really thankful for them because they manage to somehow keep me sane throughout the entire project. So here are some snip-its of that:

I also want to include my value sheet, because getting the lighting right for this project was very important to me. A bit of a fun fact: the backgrounds for the very first shot (top left) and the entire sequence where Serizawa goes outside are just barely the same value.

Now, the part where I share HD stills & go into shot composition will be meshed together here because it's a little more organized that way. One thing you should know about me is that I'm a sucker for cinematic storytelling. It's why I love doing parallel shots and other little things that help propel the story even further than just "he picks up his umbrella here."

One big example of this is the first & final shots of the video. They both feature Serizawa and his umbrella (which could honestly be considered a character in its own right for this animatic). But the umbrellas in these shots are not the same, and you also get a sense that neither is Serizawa. Where he's all alone and clutching to what's basically his lifeline during the first shot, in the final shot he's surrounded by people who love him and is able to leave his umbrella behind.

And going into a more glaring parallel, and my favorite personally, I want to talk about the two over-the-shoulder shots. They are literally mirror shots of each other, with everything including the framing. But they couldn't be more different, in order to show how much Serizawa has grown. Even the lyrics parallel each other. ("And I wandered through the house like a little boy lost at the mall" // "And I stood there like a businessman waiting for a train")

And while I'm talking about lyrics, one sequence that honestly broke my heart while working on this was the first time we hear that repeated question of "what do I do?"

This whole bit was meant to read like Serizawa was asking that question aloud. And well, if this sequence is his question, then the second time we hear those same words are certainly the answer. As if to say, "This. This is what you did."

Now. I'm a sucker for camera movement. I had a ton of it in my Royai animatic, and it was a lot of fun to figure out. But I really wanted this animatic to read as snapshots from life, like photographs on a wall. And well, photos don't have camera movements. But there is one scene in the entire animatic that does have a camera move, and it's the one where Serizawa gets dressed and the camera pans to reveal his past self staring back at him from the mirror. I think saving the one camera move for this scene really helped, because I wanted it to be as jarring as possible.

And just as a little note, because I had to include them somewhere in here, I was so happy with the two shots of Serizawa and the character I've lovingly dubbed Scaryzawa. I just really wanted to convey the fear that Serizawa had that he was reverting back to how he used to be, and I'm so glad that a lot of people enjoyed these shots as much as I did.

And now, there's one glaring scene that I've avoided talking about til now because it's my absolute favorite, and this whole section is gonna get pretty ramble-y. I'm talking about the scene where Serizawa finally goes outside. Just like I mentioned earlier, the animatic was mainly still shots, and any animation was extremely limited. But going into this scene, I knew I needed to make it special. And the best way, in my opinion, was to make it full of motion.

I just really think there's something beautiful about someone like Serizawa stepping outside and really being introduced to nature again, even if it's unintentional. I put this line in the shot sheet, and I think I've said it to a few people already, but I really enjoyed the idea of Serizawa looking up through the skeleton of his umbrella and seeing the view it never allowed him when it was intact. And trying to capture that beauty and emotion is extremely hard, and something I don't really think is possible in my style. But I'm still so happy with how those two shots turned out.

And connecting myself to this a little bit because I'm selfish...I actually finished these shots and the animatic as a whole on my birthday. It's the day before Serizawa's, and while my own birthday is always a time of reflection for me, I really enjoyed being able to to reflect on someone else's growth for their birthday. Even if he's just a fictional character, Serizawa is very important to me and a lot of other people. I think I really connect myself to fictional characters because it helps me rationalize my own growth and journey. So, all of that to say that this animatic also felt like a birthday gift to me.

ANYWAYS. Wow. This was long. The Royai deep dive was long, but this is long. Thank you if you managed to read this far, seriously. And thank you to everyone who has shown their love for this thing I spent the past month on. I don't think I'll ever get used to having people seriously enjoy the work I do.
