Well Mum let me look after myself last night!!!! She had to go to Zero and Mays prom and I was supposed to with Dad but he ended up having to go and save the Earth from Mum (at a different time) so I should have gone with Darcy but supposedly economics is happening so she was busy so I looked after myself!!!!! And I didn’t get hurt!!!!

Also mums asleep so currently she can’t really say yea or no!!!!

Does anyone know a way to get hold of dad very quickly???? Oh and does anybody know if I should make mum and dad farthers day cards or just dad because I don’t understand gender????

Author Spotlight: MeleeDamage

Ahoy there! Hope we’re all riding high on a wave of positivity (and Eurovision) after the weekend.

This week’s spotlight goes to someone who is perennially positive, although sometimes it’s just that she’s positive she wants to jump Bucky Barnes’ bones. Nominated by @hollyspacey, this week we’re shining a light on @meleedamage.

Here’s what she had to say:

01. What about Wintershock as a pairing appeals to you?  

Basically, all of it. I love these characters and from the first moment I read them paired up, I've been hooked.

I mean, have you seen them? They’re so soft and pretty. I just want to smoosh them together and write about it.

They're like two ships passing in the night and neither one's exactly sure how the hell they ended up there. It's probably the last place they expected to wind up but once they get close enough to each other, they realize that they're right where they're supposed to be. They’d have such great chemistry and I can picture them having so much fun together.

02. How did you first encounter the pairing?

I was watching an episode of Bojack Horseman and it mentioned ‘Dr Who erotic fanfiction.’ I'd read my share of erotica over the years but somehow it had never occurred to me that people would write sexy stories about pre-existing fictional characters...

I quickly found an Archive of Our Own and started digging around. The Dr Who stuff wasn't my bag but I'm pretty sure it's how I found @leftennant and @anniemar.

They were also writing Wintershock and once I found it, I felt compelled to start writing too.

03. Do you have any specific Wintershock headcanons?

They tease the shit out of each other constantly. Darcy teases Bucky about his age. Bucky teases Darcy about anything he thinks will get a rise out of her. It's all in good fun. The playfulness between them is my favourite - especially when there’s roughhousing. I can't get enough!!

04. Do you associate any particular songs with Wintershock? If so, which one?  

The Doors featured pretty prominently in Darcy Lewis' Day Off which was my very first Wintershock fic. I Wanna Be Your Dog by The Stooges probably sums up Bucky's side of things pretty well and I can totally picture Darcy singing along to He's A Rebel by The Crystals and thinking about Bucky (not because he’s a villain but because he’s a goddamned menace).

05. What Wintershock fic by someone else would you recommend to others to read? What about this fic appeals to you?

If You Feel Me Falling, Won't You Let Me Know by rubyrose is an absolute favourite of mine. It's like an old friend. I've read it a zillion times. It's got just enough pining and action and it hits me right in the feels every time I read it. I love everything about it and last summer, the author updated it with a disclaimer, basically apologizing for the inconsistent characterization and the quality of the writing. For real. I mean, that’s just the nature of the beast right there, isn’t it?!

06. What kind of Wintershock story would you love to read that hasn’t been written yet by you or others?  

I'm working on one where Bucky gets accidentally defrosted in Wakanda and I can't wait to finish it so that I can share it with everyone because it's super, super fun. I’ve also got a smoking hot OT3 in the works where Logan Howlett joins the party and I’ve got an update coming on Grand Theft Cheesecake (my most popular Wintershieldshock fic).

07. Out of the Wintershock stories you’ve written, which is your favourite, and why?  

I’m totally cheating with this answer but it’s my profile and I regret nothing.

Darcy Lewis' Day Off is my very first fanfic, so it'll always be a favourite. It's unfinished but not at a cliffhanger. I just don't have the heart to end it. The feedback I got on it from some of my very favourite authors as someone just starting out was simply incredible…

A Real Dick Move 2: Pornstache Boogaloo incorporates every prompt from the Darcyland April Fool's Smut Challenge which was very tricky but also super fun to write. I'm really happy with the way it turned out. It's wildly unpopular, which makes it another favourite. I like to root for the underdog.

As much as I love Wintershock, Wintershieldshock is my ot3 and the dynamic between Bucky and Darcy in What Happens in the Safe House, Stays in the Safe House makes it another favourite.

08. Quote a favourite extract from one of your stories. What is it that you like about it?

Chapter 24 of Darcy Lewis’ Day Off is pretty goddamned funny. I love the entire Bucky sniping during phone sex segment so much because it blends hotness and wrongness and hilariousness just right.

She gave in suddenly and completely, shuddering and moaning, overcome with euphoric release. It was warm and beautiful and even though they were miles apart, she felt closer to him than ever. “Jesus,” he gasped under his breath. “I’ll never get tired of hearin’ that. I wish I could wrap my arms around you and never let go.” “That’d make it pretty hard for you to shoot straight,” she said with a laugh. “I’m pretty sure I could figure somethin’ out,” he quipped. “Thanks for keepin’ me company, doll. I’ll be home soon.” “Alright,” Darcy sighed. “Give ‘em hell, Sarge.” Bucky ended the call and slipped his mobile into his pocket with a dreamy sigh. “Hey lover boy,” Steve’s voice sounded in his ear. “The next time you’re talking dirty to your girl, you might want to make sure you aren’t on an open comm.” Thor grumbled in agreement as the sky rumbled with thunder and Barton broke out into peals of hysterical laughter.

Author Spotlight: CinnaAtHeart

G’day drongos! This week’s spotlight is shining on an author from Down Under, who I’m sure is thrilled about my expert use of Aussie slang at the beginning there. Courtesy of @blooming-softly​, our light is focused on @cinnaatheart​.

Here’s what she had to say:

01. What about Wintershock as a pairing appeals to you?  

My love for this pairing really stems from the characters themselves. I’ve always been drawn to strong, intelligent female characters- back when I was writing HP/MCU stuff, I really gravitated towards Hermione Granger; I always loved how she wasn’t afraid to toe the line or break the law when it was needed (I mean, she kept a reporter in a jar once, come on). When I stumbled across the Darcyland fandom (and I mean that very literally- to me it seemed to have just popped up into existence on my radar), I found another character who I could really empathise and connect with, though it still took a while before I started writing her.

Bucky Barnes is a character that I am just entranced by- there’s something about the inherent tragedy of his story that really just pulled me in post CA:TWS, and once I sunk my teeth in I just found that I couldn’t let him go. Once I really got into the Darcyland fandom and decided to start writing Darcy-centric fics (prior to writing, I was very much a person who just flitted happily between pairings) that the Wintershock pairing really took off for me.

For whatever reason, I find that these two characters just really work together; Darcy is the tech-savvy intern, so entrenched in the 21st Century that I almost can’t imagine her anywhere else, and Bucky is a man trying desperately to make sense of a new world and come to terms with everything that’s been inflicted on him (and that he’s inflicted on others). They just… work.

Obviously, because it’s in essence a ‘crack pairing’, we’ve never seen their on-screen dynamics, but I’ve found over the years that that hardly matters when you have such fabulous writers to flesh them out and make their interactions so believable.

02. How did you first encounter the pairing?

Oh boy… my memory is really not the greatest, but if I had to really look back, it’s probably when I read the Marry, Fuck, Kill series by sevenfoxes. I think before then I was mostly reading Darcy/Steve fics, and her second fic in the series, The Lewis Rule, really prompted me to fall down that rabbit hole.

That said, it wasn’t really a conscious decision to write almost exclusively Wintershock fics, I swear. It kind of just… happened? I started writing a series of oneshots, and one of them- ‘The 11th’- really took off on Tumblr and AO3, and it was really only because of popular demand that I turned it into a full-blown fic (and thus, Be Near Me Now was born). From then on though, it seemed like the only pairing that really took my interest.

03. Do you have any specific Wintershock headcanons?

 Ahhahah oh God so many. In my head, I always think of Darcy as a computer whiz, and you can pry Science Nerd Bucky Barnes from my cold dead hands. Likewise, I always like to think of Bucky as a little hedonistic when it comes the the simple things- like smelling nice and feeling good and watching things he enjoys etc- and Darcy is more than happy to enable him (oh don’t you dare look back, just keep your eyes on me by suzukiblu is legit the best fic for that). Also Darcy likes to braid his hair, and Bucky likes to pretend that he’s disgruntled by it, but he’ll still keep them in his hair all day ^.^ Most of my HC’s are soft and fluffy…. Shame it doesn’t seem to come out all that much in my fics ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

04. Do you associate any particular songs with Wintershock? If so, which one? 

Mmm not really. I generally listen to music when I write, but I rarely hear songs that really resonate with me about a particular pairing. Mostly I just get songs that remind me of something I wrote because I listened to it on repeat ^.^

05. What Wintershock fic by someone else would you recommend to others to read? What about this fic appeals to you?

Oh boy. There are so many??? Hands down, you absolutely have to read In the End, She Appears, but cuddliestcactus. It’s incomplete, but oh man, what’s there is gold. And That Which you Seek by Wynn is WONDERFUL. They’re Wintershock classics, really, but oh God are they so good.

06. What kind of Wintershock story would you love to read that hasn’t been written yet by you or others?  

Okay so I’ve got two fics that I would love to see written by someone who is Not Me. One is an Anastasia AU, where Darcy is the lost Stark heiress (I just really love the Darcy is Tony’s family trope, okay... though here it would probs make more sense if she was his sister) and Bucky is the Gardener’s son-come-conman who helped Darcy escape Stane’s hostile takeover of Stark Industries when she was a child. Years later they meet again, though neither recognise the other but Bucky convinces her to come with him and Natasha to try and ‘convince’ Tony Stark that she’s his sister/daughter. Like, can someone please write this.

Alternately, I’d love a fic where Darcy is a criminal, and Bucky is a cop/detective/agent tasked with bringing her in.

I really like AU’s okay.

07. Out of the Wintershock stories you’ve written, which is your favourite, and why?  

Ahhhh oh God this is a tough one… but of pure Wintershock fics, I think it might actually be Drunk on the Gash of Sunset, which I’m working on right now. It’s a twist on the original fic Be Near Me Now, where Bucky ends up following Darcy into the 21st Century after her appearance in 1945. It’s a completely different fic in and of itself, but I’m really excited about where I’m taking it. The premise/plot for it is unlike any other Wintershock fics I’ve read, and I think my readers will be in for a wild ride :D

08. Quote a favourite extract from one of your stories. What is it that you like about it?

“I keep thinking,” he says slowly, impassive, “of how familiar you are. Like an echo… but I can’t remember from what.” He traces over her words again, more boldly this time, and Darcy sucks in a sharp breath, hand clenching in his grip. “These marks are so familiar,” he muses, gaze returning to her wrist, “and I keep wondering… what man in their right mind would ever want to leave you.”

“It was the wrong time,” she says softly, feeling impossibly sad, and the moment the words escape her mouth she knows it’s the wrong thing to say. His hand tightens, sucking in a breath of shock.

“The wrong… time?”

Darcy swallows and licks her lips nervously. She needs to tell him. “James-” she tries, but the words die in her throat at the bewildered look on his face.

“I… I remember you…” he breathes, staring up at her as though seeing her for the first time. Darcy tries to move away, but succeeds only in drawing attention back to her arm. He frowns. “The dreams,” he murmurs, and Darcy doesn’t understand but she can guess, and she tries to pull away with more force but James’ grip doesn’t falter. He looks up at her, studying her face, then back down at the words, pulling her wrist closer to his face.

“Why do I keep dreaming of you?” he asks. “Why do I see you in my dreams… with- with him?”

“Who?”

“Bucky,” he says darkly. “I see you with Bucky Barnes. And your words- they were red… like blood, I remember.”

Okay, so this is a long one, but in regards to the story it’s from (Be Near Me Now), it’s absolutely crucial to the story, and I love it. Not only because it marks the turning point of my first major completed story, but also because in terms of the storyline and character development. I love the angst of this section, and the way Bucky finally puts two and two together and works out what’s the deal between him and Darcy.
