Sasuke and Sakura laying in bed one morning when her alarm starts blaring —they both flinch.

“Dear, I need you to move.” He’s practically draped over her, his arm laying heavily across her midsection.

“…call in sick.” Sasuke grunts.

Sakura tries to pry his arm off. He’s remains unmoving.

“You know I can’t.” She says softly, slight disappointment in her voice. Sasuke fakes a cough next to her neck.

“Your husband is sick and you would hate for your patients to catch what I have.”

“Tempting.” Sakura reassures. They both hear the sounds of Sarada making tea from the kitchen down the hall.

“Besides. I want to see Sarada off, she has a mission today.” Sakura answers, stretching her limbs underneath his hold.

“Hm.” Sasuke breathes against her neck once more, this time defeated.

“Don’t pout. Perhaps I can pull a few strings and be home after lunch.” Sakura finally pries her grumpy husband off of her.

“See that you do. Your husband may as well be dead.”

Sakura watches from above the bed as Sasuke settles himself in the space she’s just vacated. “…I’ll be out in a minute.” He mutters into her pillow. Her dramatic husband was cute sometimes.

ok mercury retrograde is a fic based on a really goofy premise called "what if i shit on all the canon pairings at once?" via the medium of gaalee fanfic. it's essentially a story told from all of the other konoha 12 POVs where everyone on earth is having relationship (or pining) problems except, apparently, gaara and lee, who (in the POV of non-overlapping people, so no one makes the connection) seem to have secret paramours that are perfect for them hooHA. some start pairs include sasusaku, naruhina, and inosai, and end pairs being sns, inosaku, kibahina, etc. shikatema and chokarui stick the landing but. i like them well enough xo

Intro Post: Eighth Fandom Remake

the names Ace, but a lot of people also call me Sans. my pronouns are she/it.

i'm full force in my Naruto era and i'm in the long haul about these weirdo ninjas so buckle up baybay. and i'm playing Kingdom Hearts for serious starting october 19th so thatll have me insane.

yes i'm a multishipper, yes i'm a polyshipper, and yes, i'm down to try anything at least once. yes, even that ship, you know, the one that makes bile build in the back of your throat.

i'm someone that attempts to be a neutral party, although i do have shifting biases of my own, i won't actively go out of my way to scour out haterisms or whatever to put on my blog. too much energy to be a hater on main and i don't have that kind of energy that's required for that dedication. i will reblog analysis of characters and ships from either end of the discussion if it floats across my dash though, i find analysis to be intriguing even though i can't do it myself very well.

Hello, could I trouble you for some sasusaku fic recommendations? I hope you have a good day!

of course :) i picked some of my all-time favourites, and i hope there's enough variety here to keep you satisfied!

go the converse by blue-plums -- this one is not really romantic, but regardless, it's probably the ss fic i come back to the most often. (i'd recommend reading even if you don't dig the pairing! as long as you enjoy both characters ofc) it's a modern college au, and as a bonus, the author integrates a lot of japanese cultural elements to help the characters translate pretty seamlessly. it aces what i love about sasuke and sakura's relationship, particularly for sasuke, and it's just sooo sweet and comforting. it's incomplete but you wouldn't really know it (i only noticed on my third read, haha) -- i think it leaves you with a nice sense of closure. all of this author's fics (on ao3 and ffn) are worth a read.

soft day by catflorist -- another author whose fics are all a must-read if you like ss. this one is your classic blank period fic executed to perfection, and i don't say that lightly. it's hitting all the beats of what i've always wanted to see between sasuke and sakura as they heal and reconcile. in progress.

abattoir by leech -- a oneshot of sasuke and sakura's blank period travels as you've never seen them before. the sakura of this fic is more damaged than canon, but not so much so that you can't recognize her. sasuke is incredibly in-character, like... surprisingly sweet while also doing All Of That. yeah, you kind of just have to read it to see. mind the tags

sunny. zero chance of rain by bby_rabbit -- this is a super fun slice of life fic, still in progress. sasusaku is one of few pairings -- you can check out the tags for the others -- but i'm obsessed with what we do get of them. it's a contrast to the other fics here in that they're already together, so it depicts more domestic struggles. and i really enjoy sasuke and sakura's individual characterizations! sakura, in particular, is a character people tend to write aspirationally, but while she's no less accomplished here, i love love love the emphasis on all her neuroses. the fic does flirt a little bit with sasuhina so keep that in mind, but like. read it!

we're in danger, sleeping with a friend by psallocappella -- this is a oneshot of the early stages of sasuke and sakura's relationship. light and pretty funny. featuring the usual team 7 shenanigans, lady katsuyu, and somehow, shikamaru. would also recommend this author's other work!

the simple fact of it is that i don't really find most mainstream sasusaku criticism meritorious or interesting let alone probing of the actual issues that are present. like for example why does everyone and their mother get to have a textual reaction to finding out about the truth of the uchiha massacre but sakura doesn't, despite the fact that sasuke repeatedly draws comparisons between her and his dead family bc he fears loving someone he will ultimately only lose. if anyone deserves to know that truth and react to it in the pages it would be sakura esp bc it would give even more credence to her resistance to condemning sasuke like almost everyone else. alternatively, why do people think post canon sasusaku is bad bc it's too blandly domestic and sasuke forgetting about their dates is misogynist to sakura, and not bc writing sasuke to be an absentee father in light of his having an emotionally estranged father and self sacrificial brother makes no sense and is never something he would subject his own child to. those are the kind of things i'm thinking about that most of these criticisms frankly don't even scratch the surface of

I'm glad that he has room in his heart for Sarada when he's visiting the village for 5 minutes but I really can't forgive him nor Naruto for being so absent in their domestic lives, hokage status or not, because it's really hard to coo over cute father-daughter bonding time when he's canonically never kissed his wife and she's so frustrated over his lack of warmth that she destroyed her house one time

Mind you Sasuke only came into Sarada's life after she hunted him down and wrestled him into it at 12 years old. He had 12 years to connect with his wife and daughter but he wasn't even there for their wedding day. He's been too busy fighting alongside Naruto out in the middle of nowhere to the point it makes me wonder why he decided to have a child in the first place, I mean-- yeah there's restoring the slaughtered Uchiha clan but in that case why did Kishimoto buckle down so hard on sasusaku? After all it's hard to restore a whole clan with one child

It's uncomfortable, I want to give him the benefit of the doubt and appreciate the little he gives but as it stands he's taken too long to become a father figure and isn't putting out enough love to the both of them, Sakura deserves more

I love the idea of the time Sasusaku got to just be domestic after Sarada was born. Sasuke got to be a stay-at-home dad, while Sakura worked at the hospital.

Sasuke sitting on their couch, Sarada asleep on his chest as he’s reading scroll about one thing or another. Sakura leaving for work and kissing him goodbye and running her hand gently over Sarada’s little head. Sasuke takes Sakura her lunch everyday so that he can see her and Sarada can visit her mommy at work.

After work, Sakura plays with Sarada and cuddles with Sasuke. For the first few years, they got some domestic bliss.

@sassykinzonline NaruHina and SasuSaku the romance are a perfect coupling because they teach us the values of forced marriages and the inherent abuse and negligence that come along with it. It has this beautiful theme of gas lighting, brain washing, guilt tripping and I see nothing wrong with it because a man and a woman entering into a canon relationship is way more important than mutual feelings/mutual consent. Who cares if one party is coerced into this relationship/marriage. So long as the brainwashed man is kissing the woman under the full moon, it's all romantic and cute and signs of a green flag in a relationship/marriage. Also, it doesn't matter/it's totally normal if the woman is more than willing to set her heels on fire, overcome with sexual desires for a man who doesn't feel the same. The main thing here is that the man must submit himself to the lustful desires of a woman who has no other reason to ''love'' him besides him being ''so hot''.

We must encourage more people into having children born out of a wedlock because they are more than likely to grow up in a healthy domestic environment and later go on to have equally healthy relationships with their future partners.

Look, all I'm saying is, NaruHina and SasuSaku are a picture perfect romantic pairing because they teach us core values of vanity, superficiality, co dependency and harassment. And these are the values to live by if you want a romantic and healthy man-woman relationship.

anyways lets talk about the actual real problem with boruto aka the massive retcon and plothole that is the heterosexual marriages.

in the original manga its already established that iruka + itachi serve as the platonic foundation of sasunaru: the imperfection of these important bonds highlight the necessity of both boys to each other. iruka tries to accept despite inhumanity and inability to contribute to strength. itachi emphasizes weakness and dehumanizes, but accepts regardless. this is the key significance in the confessions: they make explicit reference to unconditional observation of strength and humanity to each other. these imperfect platonic foundations serve as the lifeline that allows for further "perfect" love to be explored and understood.

so it doesnt make sense that in boruto with 0 explanation whatsoever (this is even accounting for the light novels), sasunaru becomes the "platform" for the relationship for the suddenly more important relationships with the wives. why? if you have an exclusively perfect relationship, youre not gonna look for another. moreover, ideas like "you acknowledged me more than anyone else" and "i cant lose you" and "you alone make me feel less alone" and "only you make my life worth living, only you bring me light" and "you are my prayer and my hope for the future" are randomly attributed to women who were explicitly told the opposite. in those same light novels, sasunaru becomes a relationship exclusively of conflict/desire for space and distance, but in the boruto manga they cant stay away from each other while scorning their wives.

total actual clusterfuck, the character assassination of sasuke and naruto by that point is entirely secondary and becomes borderline understandable when you consider key values and themes are totally abandoned to give way to these couplings.

Konoha is a stopover, an interim to his mission. He’s low on supplies, and it has been weeks since he last ate a proper meal. This is what Sasuke tells himself after he accepted Sakura’s offer to eat dinner in her place.

It’s not going so well from where he is sitting. Something’s burning, and he’s sure she has cut herself more than five times and sneakily heals them. He comes up to her, unafraid of the splattering oil. “Can I help?”

There’s a defiant pout, but she lets him take over as she observes from an arm’s length. Sasuke’s particularly grateful for Juugo’s tips on cooking; in half an hour, he managed an omelet, salad, grilled mackerel, and miso soup. Ah, and of course, he has to thank Sakura’s four-burner stove for the multitasking.

“Sorry, Sasuke-kun. You’re supposed to be resting.” Her voice is low, but he catches it all the same. She busies herself with the cutlery and plates while he places the food on the table.

They sit across each other. He notes the small bouquet of tsubaki (camellia) in the center, and before he could think it through, his hand moved the glass jar to the side.

“Ah, is it ugly? I’m trying to re-learn ikebana again from Ino, but with the hospital schedule- “

“It’s blocking my view.”

Tinge of red paints her cheeks. “Your view?”

“Hmm.” Her gaze is drifting everywhere, but he only looks at her. “Sakura, itadakimasu.”

Finally, her green eyes fall on him, creasing as she smiles. “Itadakimasu, Sasuke-kun!”

“Sakura?”

“Yes?”

“I wouldn’t mind doing this every day.”
