Nico

Name: Nico (short for Nicolaus)

Sculpt: Miyadoll Baby Mocha Bluebell (cream white)

Provenance: Purchased on Miyadoll website

Nico is very interested in the natural world and likes animals, birds and insects of all types.  If there’s a strange animal in the classroom, it’s quite possible that either Nico brought it in, or it followed him.  He’s also a tender-hearted little tike: when he found out what his favourite Japanese hamburgers were made of, he cried and refused to eat them for months, until his mother persuaded him that they came from “happy cows who didn’t feel pain when they died.”(Shh... he hasn’t realised what his new, leather, shoes are made of, yet. ^_^;)  (*based on a true story from my childhood XD;;)

Nico’s image colours are light blue and lemon yellow.  He’s good friends with his kindergarten classmate Peter, who is always eager to drag bring him along on new adventures.  Nico isn’t terribly keen on adventures, but neither does he want Peter to find more trouble than he has to (or for trouble to find him), so he usually tags along to try and hold him back from his more risky endeavours... (like the one time they saw a suspicious man outside the kindergarten gates and Peter decided that it was a good idea to tail him back to his supposed “hideout” instead of telling a teacher....O:)  They do make a good team: Peter is a dreamer and trail-blazer at heart, whilst Nico provides a well-advised dose of caution and self-preservation. XD

My thoughts: I’d been thinking for a while that Peter, my Volks Yo-SD Puff, needed another little boy to be his adventuring buddy. My two other Yo-SDs are little girls, and not really the adventurous type.  So I looked and looked but nothing felt “right”, until I saw that Miyadoll was offering her Bluebell sculpt (which I had liked on first sight, months before) with a Baby Mocha body option, for a limited time.  ^^  As with all my Yo-SD purchases thus far, I decided to buy pretty much on impulse.  

By the by, Nico is my first white-skinned doll; my first full doll who is non-Volks; and also my first double-jointed doll, and I have to say that I’m enjoying him very much. ^-^  I was apprehensive at first since I couldn’t find any reviews of the Baby Mocha, and very few of Miyadoll in general (I have a semi-review of the Baby Mocha body here, if you’re interested).  It’s been fun playing with the double joints - it reminds me of when I received my very first doll, an oldskin Volks MSD Hewitt, in 2004, and first began learning to pose him. ^-^  Good times!

name/柊Shu model/CROBI E Line BrokenTori milkwhite limited birthday/2017.10.1 eye/瞳屋製14mm meeting/DollismPlusTokyo2017 ドリズム限定で白Toriヘッドが来ると聞いて、買えたらいいなーと朝から整理券を頂き並んで購入。45番の整理券でまさかのギロチンが38番でほぼ先頭で入場して、1番の札でやってきた子。DOLKのスタッフさんにも「Toriくんですね？(笑)」と言われるくらいにはToriの人でした。当初はメイクがBrokenで馴染まないならgeneralメイクをしてもらうために里帰りしたらいいかーと思っていた��、意外と馴染んだのでこのまま。双子の関係を崩さずに入れるため、良のドッペルゲンガーみたいな存在。世界軸の違うところにいる同じ子。Tori三体合わせて秀優良と等級なんだけど、双子ではない、ということで漢字は変更しました。 memo/良と同じようで違う子。うちにふらっと異次元からやってきたちょっとたち位置が難しいところ。うちのTori三体のなかで一番気弱で一番おとなしい。まだお兄ちゃんたちがこわい(笑)これからどうやって関係を作っていくか、楽しみな子です。

LK-23(えるけーにーさん/KDF LITCHI)

お迎え　2017年1月5日 LutsのSteel Heart bodyにときめいてポチってしまった美少年。 Brown Skinにボディメイクをしています。 調子乗ってボディメイクを頼みましたが、ちょっとでも動かすと剥げます。 ガシガシ動かしたい派の私はしないほうがいいようです……。 また、ヘッドはLITCHIなので公式サイトだと女の子になっているのですが、 メイクをKAFIERのものにしてもらっています。 これを基本メイクの料金のまましていただけるんだから、Lutsさん優しい。 そしてとにかく美しい。ほんとLutsの虜です……。 以下、妄想たっぷりの設定。 ボディのこともあり、人造人間という設定です。 そのため、LK-23は個体識別番号。 いつか愛称として人のような名前を得られるといいな、と思っています。 最初は人間としての名前もつけようと思ったのですが、浮かびませんでした。 だからきっと、まだ彼は造られたばかりの子で、これから少しずつ人になっていこうとしているのかな、とか思っています。

Shiina

I will be writing up a profile afresh for each of my dolls, along with an updated headshot.  Alongside, I think I’ll also repost pictures of my older dolls from the archives... so look forward to those! ^-^  Let’s start with my “number one”, Shiina:

Name: Shiina Chihiro (椎名千尋)

Sculpt: Volks MSD Hewitt 1st (oldskin)

Arrived: March 2004

Provenance: Ordered from Volks via Domuya in December 2003

Shiina is a reserved boy who keeps to himself and likes his privacy - so he would doubtless be dismayed to find out that, despite his best efforts, he's a rather well-known figure in the school community where the Small Wonder crew is set. XD Many of the younger students and even his peers would describe him as "mature", "mysterious", or "cool".... even though he isn't really any of those things.   Fun facts about him: he has a massive sweet tooth, and is actually really good with little kids. Shiina was separated from his parents at a young age and sent to live with his grandmother, where he was given a strict and formal upbringing in a large and lonely house.  He did begin to open up with a friend at his previous school, but then he was sent away to the Small Wonder boarding school where he now lives, in relative peace until a certain someone appeared... 

My thoughts: Shiina will always be special to me.  I first learnt about Super Dollfies from a friend named Djinn, but I was not interested in owning one myself until I laid eyes on a Volks website photo of MSD Hyuui sometime in 2003... Despite how grainy and low-res that photo was, he just drew me in.  The sculpt is special and stands out to me even now, fifteen years on.  I don’t really have doll goals, but I do dream on and off of having an oldskin Hewitt girl... someone like the inimitable Carsha from the now-defunct Japanese website *tears (still one of the most beautiful dolls I think I’ve ever seen).  Looking at him now, with the distance of time, I think Shiina carries many aspects of my own personality, perhaps because he was my first doll. :)

Laurie

Name: Laurie

Sculpt: Volks Yo-SD Anne Sweet Dream

Provenance: Purchased new on Yahoo! Japan Auctions

Laurie is enrolled in the Small Wonder kindergarten division, where Shiina helps out as part of the school’s extra-curricular program (which suits him fine since he has a soft spot for small children, unexpectedly enough).  Laurie is usually shy and on the quiet side, but now that she’s warmed up to Shiina, she enjoys telling him all about her day whenever they meet. ^-^ She likes Shiina-niichan, her friends Peter, Sui and all her classmates, red, pink, pastel colours, and having her hair in pigtails.  She dislikes loud noises and rough people.

My thoughts:  Yo-SD Anne Sweet Dream was many "firsts" for me: my first doll outside my beloved MSD size bracket; my first and only sleeping sculpt (I'd never fancied owning one since they had always struck me as very pretty in photos, but somehow lacking in personality); and my first and only doll for whom I took box-opening pictures. XD I was a little concerned at first that she might end up being nothing more than a foil for Shiina (that is, existing merely to show another side of his character), but I quickly became very fond of her in her own right. She's also the doll I chose to bring with me when I visited Tenshi no Sato in 2007, which is a special memory for sure~

Noel

Name: Noel Zhang

Sculpt: Volks MSD Enn (oldskin), heavily sanded, on pureskin body

Arrived: July 2005

Provenance: Blank head obtained on Yahoo! Japan Auctions

Noel transfers to the school in order to join its well-known boys’ football (soccer) team, and quickly earns a place as a regular member.   Although self-assured and well-liked, Noel can’t completely let his guard down around his schoolmates, because…. “he” is actually a girl. XD   She blends in well with boys because she grew up playing football and hanging out with her brothers and kids from the neighbourhood.   Confident in her skill and also crazy about football in general, Noel was adamant about wanting to join the team even if she had to masquerade as a boy to do it.  Her father indulged her as he’s always done, since she’s the only girl in the family ^^;, and while her mother was initially against the charade, she eventually agreed since it seemed fairly harmless (for now, at least).  

My thoughts: I had looked at the Enn sculpt on and off since its first release, considering if it fit my crew, but it never felt quite right. Then I spotted a blank, already modified head on Y!JA. I guess it "called" to me and also I figured I had nothing to lose. XD; I'm so glad she turned out well!   Noel is the “coolest” of my crew, to my mind… which is strange, since she’s a she, no?   I actually did her face-up myself (I’m still amazed I managed that), and Djinn kindly and expertly painted her eyelid crease and eyeliner.  Although I did try to make her face-up boyish-looking, she is also very fetching in girls’ clothes - I’ll have to dig up some old pictures…

meeting/I・Doll Tokyo49　Migidollブースにて。良の里帰りを検討していて、幼以下のサイズをもう一体増やそうと考えていて、実は違う子に飛ぶ予定がこの子に一目惚れをして購入。この子のほうが私好みだったが正��。幼サイズが並ぶ中で、小さいのにすらっとしてずいぶんと余裕顔の男の子がいるな、が第一印象。下がり眉なのに口角あがっててにこっとしてるのはツボだった。口角の上がり具合もちょうどいい感じ。一つ問題なのは服難民の恐れ。ぼちぼち探したいところ。名前の由来は、良にすごく似た感じの子で、また良と同じく一目惚れして買った子なので、平野沼の入り口の成実から。あれはしげちゃんですが、うちはなるちゃんです。

memo/うちの末っ子。お兄ちゃんお姉ちゃんを尊敬してて、まっすぐな子。きらきらした瞳で兄姉の話をする。見た目は3歳児だけど中身は結構大人かもしれない。一人称はぼく。あのねあのね！って目を輝かせて来たら要注意(笑)

meeting/DOLK東京店頭にて。ずっと憧れていたAランスが入荷したと聞いたのが前日。仕事で行けず今回も見送りかと思いきや、残っていてくれたのが彼。Lanceは絶対Aと決めてた（あまり根拠はない）顔を見てすごく綺麗で、そのままこの子くださいして連れてきて、仕事なのに強行深夜撮影してきてお披露目写真を撮ったくらいにはたぶん好きだった（自覚なし）名前は梅雨時期なのとランと読める字にしたかったから。あおいを葵にしなかったのは関ケ原、大坂の陣で西軍派だからという単純な戦国脳から。

memo/我が家の次男。次男にして長男の睦が放棄してしまったイケメン担当。綺麗めイケメン。最近のCROBIにしてはすごくメイクの薄い子でアイシャドウとリップくらいしか写らないが、そのあたりがすごくうちの子らしいと思ってる。きりっと眉がチャームポイント。への字の口元の癖に結構にやっとしてる。オーナー氏は無自覚でだいぶ溺愛してたらしい（最近気が付いた）系統が違うような顔をしているが、兄とも弟妹ともいい関係を気づいてる。睦のことは「にいさん」と呼ぶらしい。18歳で睦の一つ下。女装は受け付けない。涼やかな顔してさらっとイケメンだけどきっと毒舌家(笑)

meeting/ヤフオクにて。ずっと回転していたので気にはなっていたけど、眠り目かあ、どうしようか、としばらく悩みつつも、その時のドルパでお目当てもなかったので思い切って落札。ボディとウィッグだけだったので良の服を着せてそのままドルパ遠征に連れて行き、いろいろ探してきた記憶があります。奇しくもデフォなのかグリーンのアイが入ってましたがすぐに交換。良のために買ったアイを使っています。名前は双子合わせて優良。優しい子になってほしいとかは後づけ。

memo/良と双子。双子の妹だけど実際は優が実権を握っている気がする。ふわっとしているようで結構強気。横顔がなんとなくLance似なので時々きれいなかっこいい顔をする大人な彼女。優は男の子になれない、うちの唯一の純粋な女の子。私かわいいって絶対自分で思ってる。寝ているはずがすごく生き生きしてる強者。

meeting/2015年2月ごろ、ドールに興味を持ってちょろっと検索したところ出てきたSD17坂本龍馬。デフォがあまりに好みで、でも限定だからもう手に入らないと知って、実物だけでも！と窓に見に行ったり、東西旅しつつ中古を探し歩いて、やっと私の手の届く範囲で待っててくれた子。まんだらけ秋葉原コンプレックスにて購入。厚かましくも値切ろうとした記憶がある…(笑)買うかどうか3週間くらい悩んで、その日はZionくんかLanceがいたらいいなーくらいで秋葉原に行った気がするんだけど、結局ほしい子を買うまで増えるから、打ち止めの意味も込めて購入した気がします（打ち止まってない）名前は陸奥守吉行から。むっちゃんと呼びたくて睦。呼べたためしがない。

memo/我が家の長男。19歳設定。長男のくせにのんびりとマイペース、最近はちょっとおっさんも入ってきてる、ボケ担当にな��かねないお兄さん。でもやるときはやるらしく、時々しゃきっとしてる。弟妹大好きで顔をゆがませてることが多い。あちこちから坂本さんのイメージが変わったと言われた彼は今もマイペースに自分のキャラを作り続けています。坂本ヘッドかっこいいよ！という私ですが、デフォはめったにやりません。うちに来た当日にデフォの格好したら頭もボディも色移りしたからです…(袴は色止めしました）この子はあちこちからご縁を引っ張ってくるので出雲の神様が住んでるんだと思ってる（実際には出会う→出雲大社にいく→購入の順番なんだけど）左薬指のリングはオーナー製。実はイヤーカフでお揃いで持ってたんだけど、オーナーが先になくしてる。

meeting/DOLK東京店頭にて。ふらっと鎌倉桜撮影帰りに秋葉原に寄り、坂本さんが無理なら他も見てみたい、検討したことのない海外子を見てみたいと初めて行ったのがきっかけ。お店のスタッフさんに、「小さめで、目が大きくてかわいい男の子がほしいんです」と言ったら「ちょうど入荷したんです」と奥から出てきた子がTori。一度見て、うーんちょっと違うなーと思って他をふらふらしてたんだけど、やっぱりあの子だ！ということで戻って。そしてその日は3体入荷で、始めに見た子ではなくて、3体並んだ真ん中の子を購入して連れ帰った記憶があります。もともとのアイはブラウン16ｍｍ。名前は推しから勝手に拝借。平野くんのコスでもしてもらうつもりが、それはまだ一度しかできていない事実。

memo/我が家の初子。一番小さい子だけど一番偉い子。そして負けず嫌い。実はうちに来てから、私と毎日顔を合わせている唯一のドール。一人称は「ぼく」ひらがなでしかしゃべれない。お兄ちゃんたちが大好き。兄たちのことは「～にいちゃん」双子の妹の優は「ゆうちゃん」妹なのか弟なのかわからない愛は「めご」と呼んでる。かわいい担当の子なのに、「ぼくはかっこいいんだもん」のかっこよくなりたいお年頃。設定上の年齢は元気いっぱいの5歳児。中身はたぶん誰よりも大人。

Tatsue

Name: Hisagi Tatsue

Sculpt: Volks SDC Ren, on an MSD boy body

Arrived: August 2006

Provenance: Purchased online from Volks in May 2006.  

Tatsue is fourth generation Japanese of Scandinavian ethnic descent.  His great-grandfather settled in Japan with his wife in order to devote himself to the Japanese art he loved, and was eventually adopted into his teacher/ master’s family (in Small Wonder’s world, it was difficult to obtain citizenship in those days by any other means).  Despite being an anomaly in the field, the family has worked hard and made a name for itself, something of which the current 3rd-generation patriarch is fiercely proud. Unfortunately for Tatsue, he has an eye disorder which makes it difficult, if not impossible, to continue in the family tradition, which is as disappointing to him as it is to his father.  He’s a sweet-natured and gentle child who really wishes he could better live up to his family’s expectations.   When he first comes to Small Wonder, he rarely meets people’s eyes, even in conversation, as he’s very self-conscious about his odd-looking eyes, so it’s hard for him to make friends, at first.  Gradually, Noel notices his disability and begins to befriend him and draw him into the wider community, which helps him to grow as a person and begin experimenting with new forms of art. Tatsue likes traditional arts and crafts, especially tactile items like pottery, and is nervous in poorly-lit places, where he can be virtually blind.  

My thoughts: As you can tell, my dolls’ back-stories just became more and more fantastical with Noel, and then Tatsue. XD; But fret not, for we’re in Yo-SD territory from here on, and my Yo-SD’s have personalities but no real backstories (as yet).  Tatsue truly took me by surprise, since I wasn’t attracted to the default “image” of SDC Ren at all, sweet though she is.  I still can’t remember where or how the idea of putting Ren on an MSD boy body came to me. @_@  But I’m glad it was a good fit!  The delicacy and refinement of the Ren sculpt (compared to my other MSD’s) has definitely fed into Tatsue’s eventual character design. ^-^

Sui

Name: Sui (翠) (short for...?)

Sculpt: Volks Yo-SD Kanon 1st ver.

Arrived: June 2008

Provenance: Purchased un-used from Ayase on Den of Angels

One of Laurie and Peter’s classmates in Small Wonder’s kindergarten division and a thoughtful girl who keep her words to a minimum.  She tends to be very cautious around strangers, and will keep her distance and quietly assess someone she’s meeting for the first time, before slowly deciding whether to get more comfortable around them.  (She hasn’t met most of the MSD’s yet, so I’m not sure what she thinks of them....)  She lets her guard down and gets a bit dorky when presented with her favorite thing (books), though. XD;

Besides books, Sui likes her family, Laurie and mildly-sweet tidbits like Japanese wagashi, rather than anything too sugary or rich.   Her image colour is dusty purple/ lavender and she usually wears her hair in a (slightly messy) ponytail.

My thoughts: I recall going through a drawn-out period of name-less-ness with regard to Noel (my MSD Enn), too, but nothing like what this little one has had to experience. XD  I guess that’s what happens when you wait ten years to “bond” with a doll and find her her name...   She has been a difficult one to pin down, and not just name-wise.  I honestly expected a sweet princess in lace and frills, and instead I got a serious little thinker with a messy ponytail...!! @_@  But I can’t complain, since I’m glad she’s finally filling out as a character.  :) 

By the by, one of my other hobbies besides dolls is book-binding, and I intend to make her a little hardcover book modelled on an old, cloth-bound copy of Hans Christian Andersen's fairytales which entertained me as a child.  I also want to make her a little detective’s outfit, I think she would look super cute in it!

Peter

Name: Peter

Sculpt: Volks Yo-SD Puff

Arrived: 27th February 2008

Provenance: Purchased on Y!JA in February 2008

Peter is Laurie’s classmate at the Small Wonder kindergarten.  He’s a good-natured and lovable little tike who likes going on grand outdoor adventures (usually within the limits of the kindergarten compound XD), and his current obsession is fishing… even though he’s never actually fished before. :x  He used to never be without his teddy Mr Ted, but since Nico arrived he’s become Mr Ted’s caretaker of sorts.  Peter’s ambition is to be the Red Ranger when he grows up. (^_^);  His previous ambition was to be a giraffe, and his next ambition will probably be a Gundam pilot...  He is a little boy with big dreams, for sure.

My thoughts: This is my most favourite photo of Peter ever. XD  He continues the trend I began with Laurie, which is that my Yo-SD’s don’t have family names or background stories.  :x  This used to worry me because I thought it meant that I wasn’t “bonding” with them as well as my MSD’s.  ^_^;  Now, however, I think that their lack of family names and formative events just reflects the fact that they are still toddlers.  As such, their personalities and consciousness of “self” are still being shaped... Family names and circumstances just don’t matter as much to little ones as friends, food, curious new things, and what’s happening in the “now”.   I couldn’t stand the Papi/ Puff sculpt when it was first released (I still remember Djinn’s well-concealed horror when I said I was buying one XD;), but it grew on me!  Peter quickly established himself as a redheaded rapscallion (the second coming of Micchi, except... not as shrewd XD;), and he’s a nice comedic counterpoint to quiet Laurie and too-serious Sui, who is up next...
