Whats the most challenging part of writing in a 'modern wow' setting? Where do you draw inspiration from?
That is an excellent question! Long answer to this, so I do apologize...
I've been writing fanfiction for years, but writing for Trixany was a challenge because I wanted to parody (of course lol) modern influencer culture, which can have its toxic side. I actually strongly dislike some aspects of it. I write Trixany as a hungering character, desperate to fill a void by seeking all this attention and fame. That's her biggest flaw; wanting the fame so badly is her blindspot. The void inside her? That is the wound caused by the attack on Quel'thalas.
So! As for the biggest challenge in translating influencer culture into a Warcraft universe? I guess... suspending belief. You can use "comm" or "scrying orb" instead of the word "cellphone" or "television/screen." A lot of us roleplayers say something is of Goblin or Gnomish make if it seems sort of modern, as is already the pattern in Warcraft. That's how we fill in the blanks. That's easy. But how do you get people to go along with there being a celebrity gossip show, based in Dalaran? How do you convince readers that there are rival Warcraft girl bands that vibe like the Pussycat Dolls versus Destiny's Child? Without it seeming so ludicrous, you get thrown out of immersion and can't enjoy it?
I fall in love with these ideas, and then I NEED them, and they have to happen. So I have to streeetch and reach into the furthest extremes of the Warcraft storytelling spectrum. Maybe the wild-ass Goblin aesthetic is on the far end, and something most familiar to fantasy, with Human/Elf/Dwarf interactions, something Tolkien, is on the nearer end. Somewhere on the Goblin end, we have Kaja-Cola and that maybe feels like a modern company that would have a Fanta-esque girl band to promote its soda. Haris Pilton is barely, scarcely lore-abiding. But as an Elf, she probably falls in the middle? And I can draw a line safely from Warcraft Goblins to Haris (if she even really exists), to Trixany.
I find these Warcraft touchpoints and build them out. Haris Corp has become this huge, scary company with Goblin modernity and Elf sophistication beyond what Trixany can even imagine. So anything Trixany does as an influencer now seems normal by comparison, I hope. More believeable.
Usually, whatever makes me laugh really hard or that I become occasionally obsessed with in pop culture is my inspiration. I usually don't tell myself, 'No, that can't happen' when it comes to stories. IRL I may get nervous about trying something new, but when it comes to writing, which I love so badly, that's my moon shot. I will take the moon shot every time and imagine a way to make a cool idea with real potential happen, no matter what. Writing is one of our few spaces where we can set ourselves free and really be ourselves, so of course you have to try!
The Cody Rhodes post happened because I was following that, and I'm a WWE fan. I've been falling down a PubLIZity rabbit hole, so that might inspire something soon, too? If I can see it, I'm gonna try to reach it because that's exciting and you might make someone belly laugh, smile, brighten their day! Writing is so fun for me.
Oh, and I'll say my favorite modern-day Warcraft writing I've done on here was inspired by Lady Gaga's Marry the Night music video. If you read the Dalaran City Clinic post and play the YouTube video in there simultaneously, almost the entire post actually hits right in synch with the narration as a parody. I love Lady Gaga so much, and that music video is incredible. I really wanted to honor that and combine it with my Warcraft fangirl side.
Also, I just love Kael'thas showing up in that post as the nurse. It works so good; it cracks me up. That post just captures Trixany really well and how I translate modern-day pop culture into Warcraft writing. Guess the First Aid trainer in Legion Dalaran was the touch point on that one, lol!!
I usually have asks turned off, but I'm pleased you reached out. I seriously enjoy your writing too Nix, so that was cool of you! Nice ask.

So, I went to Bde Maka Ska, which is absolutely GORGEOUS. And I managed to find some places that weren’t overrun with people to take a few doll photos.
Gavi is way too photogenic, Lou just looks like a confused/curious puppy no matter what pose I put him in, and Nolan was as moody/introspective as ever.
And some of you who have been watching my photos might have noticed Nolan’s left eye is different. That’s no accident, his character has one eye that looks like that of a demon. Normally he uses magic to hide it and make his eye look normal, but when he’s tired or not around people, he drops the spell.

yet another tag meme
@ashfae didn’t joke about tagging me in everything forever, even if that means two games in one day, and as a professional procrastinator I had to answer to both of them on the same day.
Nickname: I don’t really have one. At home I’m Kaja or Kajeczka (which is a completely different name), at work I’m Ruda (Ginger), for my friends I’m Karola. For one of my friends I’m Fi, but only she can use it. I’m kinda sad no one calls me what my grandmother used to, Hajduczek (which is a very complicated thing to explain and no one is interested in that), but I guess that would stay just her thing.
Zodiac: Virgo
Height: 164 cm
Last thing I googled: Names of the wall paints I used in my room. I was talking with my friend about posters I have and told her all that shit (really, I have A LOT of stuff) hangs on the walls in two colours and additional piece of wallpaper. I had to show her a bit of that, she liked the colours and since she’s planning to renovate her bedroom a little, I looked for the name of the brand and colours I used.
Favorite song: At first I wanted to say it’s completely impossible to choose twenty, let alone one, and I refuse to answer this question, but then I sat for a while and thought about it, and I didn’t have much problem with choosing. It’s this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYJix_D1qjM
Let me put it this way: there’s not one person in Poland who doesn’t know it, it was composed in the 60′s, it’s still played in mainstream radio stations, I’ve heard it millions of times and I still can just sit and weep over it’s complete beauty. I should be resistant to that, but I’m not. I’m not going to translate the lyrics, because: 1. they were written first as a poem and that should be done by a professional, and 2. I don’t believe it can be translated with keeping even 50% of it’s artistry. It’s a happy song, about the autumn and the young love, and that’s sounds very banal, but gosh... Every word is perfect. And the performance! Czesław Niemen was and is and forever will be the pope of 20th-century Polish music, had the most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard, was extremely talented (he was a composer, lyricist, singer and multi-instrumentalist, seriously, he could play at least six completely different instruments), and his repertoire was very diversified, from big-beat, pop, rock, progressive rock, to even film scores and theatre music. One day I’m gonna snap and just flood your dashes with his songs, and then hack your computers so you’d have to listen to his music 24/7. Or I’m just going to make a huge playlist and post it every 15 minutes.
Number of followers: 139. Every time someone starts following me I’m completely shocked; I have no clue how it’s possible that so many of you want to see all that chaos that is my blog on your dash.
Amount of sleep: Around six hours.
Lucky number: I don’t believe in lucky numbers, but I’m a great fan of 11.
Song stuck in my head: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgkWs5p6Nk0
I fell into an abyss of Niemen’s music, I can’t get out and I hope you’ll stay with me there too.
Favourite Instrument: Piano. I really, really like clarinet and viola da gamba, but there’s nothing like a piano.
Dream Job: A writer. A published one. But because that’s very unlikely to happen, I would gladly work as an archivist in some very small, very quiet library/archive. I did that for two months as my student internship and... what’s the English term for it... I think description - that was the most fun I ever had at work. Reading hand-written letters created between 1862 and 1891 and trying to understand who wrote it, to whom was it written, where, when, what about... Wonderful, I could spend eternity doing that. (But not describing photos, this is the punishment that awaits bad archivists when they die and go to hell, I did that for a week or two and almost lost my mind).
Aesthetic: Pretentious bitch covered in dark or intense colours that probably doesn’t want to talk to you/pretentious but probably harmless doll who’s trying to pretend it’s the 50′s - basically wearing clothes that most people would maybe dare to put on if they were going to a wedding on Mondays at 9.00 a.m. Overdressed most of the time.
Favourite Author: This question is entirely not fair, I can’t decide! Ok, I’m gonna cheat a little bit: I’d say Charlotte Brontë for a novelist, and Charles Reznikoff for a poet.
Favourite Animal Noise: My cat’s meowing when she’s looking for me.
Random: I don’t have many nice or entertaining stories or facts to share, but every time someone visits me, I make my mother tell them how she smuggled silver nitrate to Turkey in the 70′s and almost got killed (and saw a man whose hair turned white in one night because of the stress and fear). It sounds awful, I know, but it’s so amazing I never get tired of listening about it. (That automatically reminds me how her parents sold 19th-or-18th-century furniture and a fucking Steinway, almost got robbed and what they did with the money from that sale, and it’s a completely different and very sad story, in my heart much sadder than my mother being in mortal danger, and I’m not ready to talk about it yet).
Writing in a foreign language is exhausting, it’s 10 p.m. and I don’t have the energy eat my supper, let alone think about tagging anyone, but please feel free to play if you want to and click those damn links if you even bothered to read all this mess, you will thank me later.

I'm sorry if this seems annoying or something, but will you make that Joe and Thomas Light doll or... anyways sorry once again I just think it would turn out interesting sorry
Hey! No need to apologize, friend.
The reason I’ve been so [RADIO SILENCE INTENSIFIES] about the Protomen dolls has been, simply put... there’s a lot of other dolls I’d like to get to first, whether because they’re simpler to make or because they’re closer to being Done.
First, I’m trying to finish a quick outfit for Kaja Googoo, the Jojo OC GI Joe hybrid that @dollsahoy sent me- I need to get something on his magnificent form so I can put him up on display.
marvelous.
I’ve also got two dolls I’m working on as projects for friends of mine- one an OC, and one a revamp of the official BTS Suga doll. they were both supposed to be Christmas presents. the OC is basically done- I want to redo her shirt and I need to ship her off to Australia. the BTS doll is taking a little longer because my perfectionism is getting the better of me. there are a lot of tiny parts to the outfit i’m making and I want to get them all just right.
i’m making a tiny Kelly-scale doll of Virgil/Anxiety from Sanders Sides for a friend of mine.
i’m turning a my scene doll into a curvy barbie, and I’m nearly done with that-- i’ve got to paint her boots, make some straps for her tank top, and make her a fishnet overshirt.
i’m turning a 16″ singing Elsa doll into Lady Maria Of The Astral Clocktower from Bloodborne (though I’m probably going to have to start over on her) and making a doll of Cultist Simulator Edith for my etsy store.
so I’d love to work on Light, Joe, Blues, and Megs, but that’s not happening right now.

As soon as I saw Doll Love Kaja, I thought I might recreate my vampire muse.
I just...saw him and thought, Martin. I mean, he's perfect for my vamp muse.
I was asking about bigger clothes and a bigger wig because Martin is a bit of an inept vampire, who is constantly thirsty and was dirt poor before being turned. So, naturally, he's very thin and his clothes are big on him. I also found a wig in a bigger size that I absolutely love that I might get, anyway. Probably a wig cap would keep it in place. I might even be able to glue it to the wig cap (since I'm not intending to sell it.) IDK. I'm nuts.
Also, I feel terrible because I practically begged for this doll, but I don't feel particularly bonded with Sylvie. After the original excitement of having her, it's worn down. I guess maybe since she doesn't have proper clothes or a wig. And I really hate the way she's strung, so I've got to fix that.
I dunno...is loss of thrill a thing among you guys? Like...do you feel disconnected from your dolls before they have wigs and clothes? Or are Sylvie and I not meant to be?

Omg Hi Haris
Trixany: So Haris, here she comes. Remember what we agreed.
Haris: Which is...
Trixany: Be mean to Mindy. She's dating Sharpen, and she's too perfect. No way Sharpen is getting married before I do!
Mindy: *walks into the coffee shop on perfect draenei goat feet*
Trixany: Mindy! Hiii!
Mindy: *waves eagerly, rushes in for a hug*
Mindy: *signs* This must be Haris! Yes!! I can't believe we're meeting!
Haris: Oh my old gods, aren't your feet cute!
Mindy: *signs excitedly* I always get that, haha! I love your outfit, great skirt!
Haris: Yours, too. That's thottbot.
Mindy: New catchphrase? *signs, grinning wide*
Trixany: ...
Mindy: *signs, turning to Trixany* So Trixany, how do you two know each other?
Trixany: Well, Haris and I were rivals for a long time. Then, she became my boss. She sorta tricked me into it. Contractually.
Mindy: Wow! Really?
Haris: *shrugs* That was SO thottbot of me, I know.
An hour later...
Mindy: Well I hate to leave, but Sharpen and I are going to dinner with my family. *signs, apologetic*
Trixany: What! Already?? Um. I mean... How nice for you.
Mindy: *signs earnestly* Haris, I will treasure this meeting for the rest of my life. And I promise I will try your Kaja-Cola cocktail recipe. I am so excited!
Haris: Oh, anything for a true fan! In fact-- *waggles hand at her until Mindy hands over her purse*
Mindy: *gasps as Haris autographs her handbag*
Haris: There! Now you have a priceless Haris Pilton original. On the house!
Trixany: *jaw drops*
Mindy: Oh wow! Oh my goodness!! *almost cries, hugs Haris like crazy*
Trixany: Buh-bye now.
Haris: Keep it thot. *fingerguns*
Mindy: *squeals, leaves the coffee shop*
Trixany: Haris. Seriously. What the fuck was that!
Haris: I liked her.
Trixany: And I liked you too, when we first met. You were SO fake nice to me, but then later you tried to ruin my social life! And my brand!! But Mindy gets the royal treatment? I told you to be mean to her!
Haris: Eh. Didn't feel like it.
Trixany: Unless that was fake-nice, just now? Pretty please?
Haris: No, I genuinely decided to be sincere. Guess I had my coffee this morning.
Trixany: WHAT??!
Haris: Don't feel bad, Trix. Everyone needs a rival. Someone who can spur you on and make you feel invincible. *stage winks* The thrill is irresistible.
Trixany: Did you just quote a Ken Ashcorp song??
Haris: Um, hello! Early 2000s media is cool again. Get in loser, we're going trending.
Haris: Anyway, don't worry Trix. I'll destroy someone else's brand tomorrow. *pinches Trixany's cheek*
Haris: Well, doll! Gotta go. Keep it thot--
Trixany: *sullen* Keep it thot, yeah.
Haris: SO thottbot of you. Toodles! *leaves*
Trixany: ...
Trixany: And she stuck me with the bill, look at that.
