Unpopular opinion but I wish shippers would start to realize that it is not the one and ultimate goal in a relationship to get married. And while this is true for any romantic relationship whatsoever, it's bugging me especially with queer ships because this way of thinking is dripping with heteronormativity.
There are a million different ways to live a good and committed relationship. Being married is just one of them. Not everyone wants that. You can be devoted and committed to each other without being married. It would be nice to see that in fandom more often.

There's something about reading really great writing that's so relaxing. You can just sit back and let the words wash over you, knowing that you can trust the writer.

A compilation of my favourite Perc’ahlia lines because I’m such a sucker for them:
“She is my heart and my judgement and the future that I have chosen.” (Percy)
“Darling, take the mask off.” (Vex)
“Every time I thought I would sink, I would see your face- your face, the first time I truly lost control, and you told me to take off the mask.“ (Percy)
“You're a good person and you're not broken anymore. All right? We're filling each other's gaps. We'll be the glue.“ (Vex)
“Never forget you’re my favourite.” (Percy)
“I’ve known a lot of people with money, and they are definitely not worth you.” (Percy)
“Nice shootin’, stud.” (Vex)
“You’ll have to amend that one name, just to be fair. It’s Lady Vex’ahlia. Lady Vex’ahlia, Baroness of the Third House of Whitestone and Grand Mistress of the Grey Hunt.” (Percy)
“My heart is someone else’s.” (Vex)
“I should have told you: it’s yours.” (Vex)
“There was a hole in my heart, and I truly believe the only reason I didn't perish from it was because you were holding my heart so tightly. I thank the gods I gave it to you. It is yours, forever and always.“ (Vex)
“I just scream, I scream.” (Vex)
“I need you here now, I need you here.” (Percy)
“You still have a little blood behind your ear.” (Vex)
“But I don’t want to be here if you’re not. Whitestone still needs you, darling. I still need you here.“ (Vex)
“You’re far too wonderful for an idiot.“ (Percy)
“He’s married, to me, and I will cut you.” (Vex)
“You have given me a future I had cheaply sold away.“ (Percy)
“You allowed me to be a part of the thing that you hold dearest. And I was so proud.“ (Vex)
“Vex, I heard you. It was the only thing I heard.” (Percy)
“Were you going to fight the Raven Queen for me?” (Vex)
“I promise to walk into the future with you. I promise to build a family with you. And I promise to always be here for an adventure with you.“ (Percy)

colin should 'suffer' for penelope
Tumblr media
aka: 5 short reasons why wanting colin to 'suffer' or 'grovel' or whatever other bullshit this fandom keeps pulling is stupid and makes no sense and should have been buried ages ago, how is this still a thing?
1: it sets a terrible and unhealthy dynamic between an endgame couple
especially considering Polin's motif is that of a mirror, if Colin is expected to grovel or suffer for Penelope's affection and forgiveness, it only stands to reason that Penelope then, too, would have to reciprocate. how Penelope treats Colin's ills is setting the precedent for how he's expected to handle her own against him, of which there are many. giving him the cold shoulder, holding what he said over his head and rubbing it in his face, potentially not even explaining why she's upset at him: these are not signs of a mature woman ready for a marriage to ANYONE
2: Colin's slights against Penelope are considerably less harmful than Penelope's against Colin's and it makes no narrative sense for her to be on her high horse about it
'he ruined her prospects' 'he talked about her behind her back' 'he laughed at her' (we don't even know if that one's true, frankly speaking)
but Penelope did the exact same to him and she did so first. Please remember that Penelope is the reason Colin and Marina broke up, and it was her express goal the entire time. Penelope humiliated Colin and Marina both by exposing them publicly (not to mention rubbed the salt into the wound for days afterward). Penelope didn't even think about Colin's feelings because she tried to confess her crush on him immediately after his engagement went poof. Penelope holding Colin accountable for what he said without herself recognizing the ways in which she's hurt him, too, makes her out to be a hella hypocrite
3: it's weirdly catholic on main?
love isn't about suffering points or penance or guilt and i'm tired of Christianity pervading every damn thing. sorry not sorry, some of us want an actually fulfilling love story
4: y'all are just mad Colin didn't love Penelope back from jump and it's a revenge fantasy
which, fine, that's what fanfic is for, but it's OOC, y'all are aware of that, right? because if he DID want her from the start, we all know that it wouldn't be Polin? why are you shipping a friends to lovers ship if you INSIST that the friends to lovers dynamic is less than? guess what? unreciprocated love is kind of part of the deal. you don't hold a grudge against your friend for not loving you back immediately. Colin shows he cares about Penelope in SO MANY WAYS that somehow are completely invalidated because it isn't meant to be romantic? imma say it: fuck you if you think that way. friendships are important and beautiful and deep and fulfilling with or without romance. Colin sticking his neck out for Penelope to help her family from Jack's scheme? an act of love. Colin sending Penelope letters after her father passed? act of love. Colin telling Penelope she's 'really very good' and holding her hand in appreciation of her coming to talk to him? act of love. if you think those acts of love mean nothing just because he isn't fucking her seven ways to sunday, maybe analyze your own viewpoint of relationships and ship Pen w/ some random stranger who makes heart eyes at her tits from jump
5: it makes Penelope an asshole to her own long term partner
dude, if a friend of mine insisted I crawl on hands and knees to determine whether they want me back in their lives, i don't want to be around that person? so many of these narratives make Penelope a straight up terrible person. if you want your partner to suffer? you probably don't actually like them very much, but Polin is narratively MEANT to be the couple that likes AND loves one another. be real, if your friend ghosted you for months, gave you the cold shoulder when you tried to talk again, treated you like shit (you can't argue that him 'suffering' isn't treating him like shit in some way shape or form) as you tried to apologize, and then you find out that she was the reason you and your ex broke up and she wrote straight up nasty things about your family for YEARS, you would want absolutely nothing to do with that friend. why should Colin be expected to be any different? do these two not deserve a lovely love story built on love and affection and trust and honesty? a healthy happy relationship in which they see one another and appreciate one another for all they are? no? so why do you ship them?
+1: it's oversaturated in this fandom
polin is a fantastic ship. how is THIS their main trope?
find a new fucking idea, PLEASE

9pm. Fips and Lawrence were in the living room, watching through some random horror movie. They suddenly heard little footsteps, making Fips pause the movie to look at the doorway. EIi was standing there, teary-eyed in his pyjamas, holding a pillow. Lawrence immediately became alarmed, and stood up, walking over to his son.
"Eli? What happened?" He asked, as Fips stood up after a few minutes to help comfort their young son, who looked like he was on the brink of a breakdown.
"I-I had a n-nightmare..." Eli sniffled, hugging his pillow tight to his chest "T-That you left me..." He hiccupped, barely getting the words out through sobs.
Lawrence and Fips exchanged looks, as Lawrence picked Eli up, making the small child immediately curl up and sob into his Father's chest. Fips was visibly concerned, as he began to gently stroke Eli's hair.
"don't worry, we would never leave you!" Lawrence reassured with a gentle tone, making sure Eli knew he wasn't mad or anything. Fips sighed and Eli kept sobbing, and the small mutters he did get out were pleads for his two Fathers to not abandon him. Lawrence and Fips kept trying to soothe and comfort him, until they heard quiet snoring.
Eli had fallen asleep in Lawrence's arms
Fips and Lawrence exchanged looks, chuckling softly. They walked up to Joshua and Eli's room, carefully not to wake either up, and set Eli back into bed. Eli, like an instinct, immediately hugged Joshua, who sleepily hugged back. Fips and Lawrence quietly exited the room, and sighed, before going back to the living room to resume their movie (Spoiler alert: they fell asleep halfway through and ended up just sleeping together on the couch)

mulder and diana literally have the most intense divorced energy anyone could ever have...they have the chemistry of two people who've been married for decades and maybe don't wanna be married anymore, maybe aren't married anymore, but once you're married you're grandfathered in. you're always married. haven't touched each other in years, go most days not even considering the other, but owe each other something, and aren't sure of what it is. diana lies and lies and lies to his face, and then dies to save him. she feels entitled to him, she knows what's best for him, what's his is theirs. always. she was there when he got it. she helped him build it. (she tells him herself: "don't forget that"). so much of what she does appears as she's trying to establish a claim over him, but she doesn't have to try. she just is. she's irreproachable. you don't talk about the wife. (and you don't talk to her, as scully and diana arguing is met only with mulder's impatient, "scully...scully...scully.")
any time she comes up in conversation, his friends are uncomfortable. i love the way byers goes "well....yeah?" when scully asks if he knows diana. he says it like he's surprised that scully didn't know about her. when scully won't stop pressing mulder about diana in one son, all three of the boys tense up. the camera keeps going to their reactions. (you don't talk about the wife. they were there. "i always wondered why they split up.")
scully says "special agent diana fowley" as though maybe if she had one more title to throw in, she would disappear. diana says "fox" like she has something to prove. mulder says "diana" like it communicates everything he doesn't say. and in a way, it does. the first time scully heard him call agent fowley "diana," she knew.

ask game questions prompting thoughts which basically boil down to "on every level except romantic and sexual Muro is in a relationship with Conficcare/a member of of Conficccare and Tesoros relationship" meaning that apart from sex and romantic attraction their relationships fulfill the ideas other ppl have about what constitutes life partners. The three of them are like a throuple but the sides with Muro on one end are QPRs.

The relationship categories have been updated again!!! Now it has, in addition to QPR and antagonistic/vs relationships, categories for nonbinary relationships!!!!
Saw this while starting to port over another fic and got super excited to see the NB/M, NB/F, NB/NB relationship options there, so I wanted to share.
There's also been a couple of additional warning categories added to the Archive Warnings. Glad to see the one for Suicide/Suicidal Ideation. Definitely gonna have to trawl through my fics to add that one in where applicable.
The Incest and/or Incestuous Relationship(s) one is one I'm both glad is there and concerned will get misused because some people can't seem to tell the difference between actual incest and stuff that gives off incest-vibes to them. Barry/Iris from the Flash isn't incest just because they were raised as foster siblings and while thankfully the fandom gets that... that does seem to be a rare thing.

My brain is just happily spinning around with the idea of Match and Thad as a hero-villain married couple.
Suicide Squad did multiple things right for Match and one of them is making him actually want to be a hero (which is perfect development because it references the 2009 DC Holiday Special. Seriously, I can go on about my boy Match).
Because really as a villain how can you look at one of your best friends after the euphoria of reuniting and thinking the other was still dead, find out he's trying to be a hero now, and not think, "Well, I can't not fuck him at this point."
The friends to sorta enemies to lovers pipeline would be filled with so much conflict and sweet sweet tension.

The most compelling part of my incredibly elaborate Alison Corruption Arc AU™/Alison Stranded in 1993 AU™ is definitely Alison just becoming an accepted part of Julian and Margot's marriage. The Cooper-y filling in a Fawcett sandwich.

so
i’m playing a knowledge cleric in my dnd campaign, and the religion we’re using is a really loose structure, half teacher half librarian kinda vibe (and yes i decided to play this character before the library school thing happened), but clerics are something a little extra than just a follower of a religion, right? like, you get your magic powers from your god, so i figure there’s something more happening there for whatever cleric you play
but me, i’m not one for pages and pages of backstory, i’ll figure things out while i’m playing but i mostly just give myself sketches and outlines to work off of, so i present my dm with ‘i had a dream that god told me to look for something, but i don’t remember what i’m supposed to be looking for, and i’m not even entirely sure it was god’
and that’s where we start the campaign, dude in his early forties with a fair amount of knowledge and a not-insubstantial understanding of people finally striking out into the world, and the first major event he runs into involves someone he trusted turning out to be a blood cultist, and he doesn’t really learn from that because surely that was just a one-off weird thing, like not every person you run into will be lying to you, that can’t happen
and it’s happened again and again and again - he finds someone who is scholarly, or helpful, or even of his faith, and he trusts that they’re genuine, or at least that they won’t harm him, and then he is betrayed and it’s getting worse and worse (bodies are starting to pile up around him and some of them are those he created, when he barely took the martial training offered at his temple, only accepting because any knowledge is knowledge worth having, but now death is at his fingertips), and he still wants to believe
the worst of it is that he’s been getting visions, and at first he believed they were from his god, because why wouldn’t he? who else could get inside his head this way? but he’s found that these visions (at minimum, some of them) are coming from a former brother of the cloth, someone who believes their god is lying to everyone and is willing to destroy the entire faith because of it, and he’s recruited so many people of my character’s faith that they can no longer be implicitly trusted, and they’re even being forced to attack and die for this man’s beliefs
so my character is finding that he can’t trust anything implicitly - his siblings of the cloth, the world they live in, even the thoughts in his head - and he still wants, so much, to believe in the inherent power of information, of knowledge, in knowing that even if it’s the worst pain you’ve ever known, knowing is still better than not knowing
and it’s so rewarding to play through faith in this way, to be presented again and again and again with the same choice, the same burden - do you trust this person? do you believe they are who they say they are? how many lies can you hear before you stop believing anything at all?
but lies can tell you the shape of the truth, and that’s all that my character can hold onto sometimes
#i've had a lot of feelings welling up in me about my little knowledge cleric dude#so it was about time i put them out there for other people i guess#just man faith is one of the most fascinating things to me and i love that i'm getting to play a character who's getting challenged#so many times and in so many ways in that regard#i mean it also feels weird because my character's dilemma is definitely the biggest one in terms of world-shattering events#so i'm kinda the driving force of the campaign most nights#and i'm not used to that? i'm very much a support character in real life hahaha#so it feels weird to be the center of attention so often#but i guess that's what i get for making a character whose motivation is a god's instructions#whereas my party members' roleplaying spurs are mostly family related things#trying to hunt down family heirlooms or confront an absent father#my character knows exactly where his family is and has a good guess what they're up to#he just.... doesn't fit in with them well#he expects to be told when someone gets married but doesn't expect an invitation to the wedding#that's the vibe i'm going for with his relationship to his family#anyway we had a session last night where my character was talking with a high-ranking member of his own faith#and he rolled a nat twenty on an insight check to see if this person was following the asshole that's plaguing him right now#and she was the most genuine person he could ever imagine meeting#so you know i'm feeling a little emotional about the whole thing#(happily we are in a spot where the god thing should hopefully be on the backburner for a couple of sessions)#(love getting to explore my stuff but again i'm ill-fitted to being the center of attention for a majority of our time hahaha)
