“Get Top on the phone” ☎️
I wondered why I was familiar with the line when I heard it on Doechii’s "Boom Bap". Hearing it inspired me to recollect the songs I’d heard it in. So, that’s what this is…
#1 THat Part - ScHoolboy Q feat. Kanye West (May 2016)
This had to be the song I first heard the line on. And at this point — I am only noticing the line as the line. Ye closes out the outro:
I'ma freestyle this motherfucker, who knew? // When I'm with my niggas, nigga, ScHoolboy Q // And uh, Top Dawg, call up Dawg // Get that nigga on the phone // Top Dawg on the phone // Ayy, ayy, ayy, ayy, ayy, ayy, ayy, ayy, Haa”
This made sense. ScHoolboy Q is a longtime artist with Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE). "Top" refers to Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith, CEO of TDE. In a clever way, Kanye’s shouting out Q and Top for being the dope individuals they are and for their proven success in the music industry. Only after gathering songs for this blog do I wonder if Ye’s drawing directly from the song the phrase was first featured on, #2 on this list…
#2 Kendrick Lamar - untitled 02 | 06.23.2014. (March 2016)
When I heard it here, I recognized it. And then I thought “of course”. And without feeling the need to verify, I posited for obvious reasons that it was the first recording of the line in a song.
In “untitled 02 | 06.23.2014.” Kendrick bookends the chorus with:
“Get God on the phone” // “Get Top on the phone”
Kendrick seems to lean into it as reverence to Top by likening him to God, for who he is to him. So I left it at that.
I later found a Genius annotation pointing to a now removed image Top Dawg tweeted where the phrase was written on the upcoming TDE releases next to Kendrick’s entry. When I look back, this should’ve meant more to me.
#3 Boom Bap - Doechii (August 2024)
I immediately thought the use of the phrase was so brillantly delivered, sonically thrilling, all of it. So, the significance..if i had to say: Doechii’s paying respect to Top and to Kendrick by sampling his line that carries the respect for Top; and then in the same breath, flipping it in her demand for respect (and attention, resources, etc.) from Top and whomever else because, even as one of the newest TDE-signees, she believes she’s the one-next up-etc.
So then, I searched the internet about it…
#4 THat Part - ScHoolboy Q (Black Hippy remix) (July 2016)
Less than 2 months after the original THat Part was released, Q drops the Black Hippy remix featuring these lines from Jay Rock:
“If you wanna fall through, get Top on the phone // He don't pick up then it ain't bool // Let you know it ain't good to stop”
Ohhhkay - #1, I actually forgot this song existed and had only heard it once or twice. #2, now I see the more of what it means, maybe for all mentions even. For Kanye – him getting on the TDE cal, a ScHoolboy Q record and shouting Top out for it.
The phrase encompasses a lot and much of what I initially thought, I’d say, still stands. At its core, I think is a request of clearance and activation of action, topped with obvious respect. “Get Top on the phone” because we need his blessing and his guidance.

🎶✨when u get this, list 5 songs u like to listen to, publish. then, send this ask to 10 of your favorite followers (positivity is cool)🎶✨
thank you for asking!
lowkey kinda difficult but let me think..
i’m also gonna give reasons cause it seems like the right thing to do.
i’m just a fan - teezo touchdown
i’ve been listening to teezo for quite a while now and while i love his latest/debut album this song just hits on really hot summer days and late-late nights. i love when songs are a little humorous on the surface-level but have a deeper meaning underneath, and the whole double-meaning of “fan” is lyrically exciting to me.
drew barrymore - sza
this song just makes me cry… a lot. the lyrics, the tone — really gotta give it a listen to get what i mean.
listen to my heart - boa <3
you know i already love boa and her discography and its so so soooo hard to narrow it to one song (dont wanna just make this a boa post, but oh boy i could) but the main reason why i chose this one in particular is because i really like the greatest ver. too (maybe even more from time-to-time) which really just shows how timeless it is.
stressed - doechii
if memory serves me right i knew about doechii back in 2020 but i only really started looking into her music after this colours performance of “stressed.” such a good and powerful song as well as her confidence and eloquence in what she says in all her songs is captivating.
ape - taeyong
just goes too hard.
#i have so many other song but ahhhh i think these ones are the best to share#i feel like these are song i can put on and most of my friends would enjoy yk?

Another Astro Observation ig tbh I really just wanna share my experiences and see if other placements have the same experiences I struggle interpreting astrology so relating it to my life and experiences helps also I'm gonna try to put songs that remind me of these placements
Recently someone called me arrogant and I was confused because I struggle with confidence I don't think I'm arrogant or come off that way. Then I looked more into astrology and realized why people may think this. I'm pluto, sun, and jupiter dominant I'm also a scorpio rising with jupiter in my 1st house. I think these placements come off as very confident. And tbh I think being self obsessed can be good to an extent because people are always trying to bring you down.
Songs:
Juice by Lizzo
Conceited by Flo Mili
Persuasive by Doechii
If You Seek Amy by Britney Spears
Cockiness by Rihanna
And that brings me to the next observation people ALWAYS try to bring pluto/scorpio placements down. This probably also applys to lilith placements too but yea Ex:
So as a scorpio rising I was bullied a lot when younger especially on my appearance and the way I presented myself. I also have pluto in the 2nd house and I notice people try to "take me down a notch" by insulting my appearance (1st house) and by doing this they think it will lower my self worth/confidence (2nd house).
More about pluto in the 2nd house. I noticed pluto and scorpio can represent what gets a reaction from people. With my pluto in the 2nd house I was thinking it could be my voice, lips, and fashion (2nd house ruled by Taurus, Taurus rules throat, vocal cords, and mouth). Sagittarius is also in my 2nd house and people always talk about my smile it used to be one of the things I'd get made fun of. All of the things I listed above would. I would get comments on my voice and my lips/smile being too big. It was almost like people hated seeing me express happiness? (maybe they were jealous? Because pluto can show jealousy) and if you think about it this is spot on for this placement.
Gimme More Slayyyter remix for this one
I have virgo lilith in the 11th house and my friendships never go well/last 😭. I recently had this experience where I was sitting at a table with a bunch of girls and they all decided they didn't like me and kicked me out the table. They claimed I was too loud 🤭 (my aries mercury is screaming!!!)
Another 11th house lilith situation: I had bad friends in middle school and a teacher told me they're bad and I should stop being friends with them because they'll get me in trouble and ofc I didn't wanna listen 💀...honestly there's so many especially when it comes to online friendships
Songs: All My Friends Are Fake by Tate McRae
Backstabber by Kesha
I have venus in my 5th house and as stated above I'm sun dominant and people always tell me I should do something that has to do with theater 😍
Song: Circus by Britney Spears
My sun is opposite my asc and I feel like people always see me differently than how I see myself or how I really am
Mars in the 9th house do yall get called outspoken too? 🤨 I'm very opinionated I'd be starting conversations about controversial topics with no shame! 😘 also are yall advocates? I feel like the sign can change what you advocate for mines in cancer and I'm a feminist 😋
Songs:
Truth Hurts by Lizzo
Woman by Diana Gordon
Bad Girls by M.I.A.
I Am by Jorja Smith
Last one my mom has lilith and chiron in her 1st house and people sexualize her all the time!!! Even at work and they'll bring up her sexuality...it's getting weird 😟 she always kept a bf when younger she'll literally be minding her business and a guy will come up and offer sex like huh? Definitely getting lilith vibes
Songs:
Sex Yeah by Marina
Got it like that by Jae Stephans
Cockiness again 😜
If You Seek Amy again 😭

AWWWWWW WHAT?
ty! Tysvm v////v
um so here's my 5 songs I like to listen to on my playlist atm
5.
I dunno, been listening to this song a lot lately for a character. Bella. That's who. Gorsh I need to post some more stuff about my own characters. But also I just love how the chorus hits.
It's a damn cold night Trying to figure out this life Won't you take me by the hand? Take me somewhere new I don't know who you are but I,
I'm with you...
4.
I like to imagine this as the song that opens my daydream like those older 2000s movies lmao. It's just different scenes of my characters getting up for another day of high school. Damn, what does Turmoil have to offer today for this group of teens?
You're just the girl all the boys want to dance with And I'm just the boy who's had too many chances
I'm sleeping on your folk's porch again, dreaming She said, she said, she said,
"Why don't you just drop dead?"
3.
Yes. I love this song. Great to listen to and imagine a montage of my characters being themselves. That's all.
I don't wanna be anonymous But, I don't wanna be you In a city full of promises Nothing rings true
2.
I was debating hard asf with this, Bitch I'm nice or Monaleo We not Humpin lmao. "Y'all be weak in the meat. Stand up."
"STAND UP."
Anyway, persuasive is a vibe so I think I listen to this more because I like playing it in the background while i'm doing my hair or chores and stuff :)
Anyway stream Doechii Feel it's the season I should let go And that's the reason I'ma buy more Feel it's the season I should fly solo
AHHHH I LOVE THIS SONG
once again, debating against this one or immature. TBH i feel like Immature sounds more interesting BUT I LOVE THE MUSIC VIDEO TO THIS SONG.
Ahhh! And I LOOOOOVE imaging Lillian, Meghan, and Savannah singing this in a music video very similar to the official one rofl.
Anyway, in the crossover AU, I think about with Turmoil bleeding into MTH, this is the song that plays as a montage after Boomian breaks up and Lillian goes around Townsville mentally getting over a particular blonde boy. I talk about Lillian a lot so you can probably guess who my favorite is in my daydreams 👀
and the line "never liked your momma so I guess she's blocked is definitely a shot at Him. 👀
I'ma put your shit in a cardboard box Changing my number and I'm changing the locks When you can't get in, know your heart gon' stop You may be crying, but boy, I'm not

I actually really wanna hear about the doja/Bruno comparison! Also I feel the same way about Bieber/Chris brown lol
Okay, so I was listening to Doja Cat earlier - and I've been trying to figure out why the "rapper" title for Doja Cat felt iffy for me to accept - and I realized now that she's a lot like Bruno Mars: They both enjoy the genres of rap and r&b (Doja, Bruno respectively) and the real joyfulness of performing in the genre is what shines through - and they often perform it well, so 🤷🏾♀️ But the truth of the matter is... especially Bruno - they are not specifically bringing anything different to the table and certain artists do the type of genre better than they do, and add something new ( (i.e. Janelle Monàe with the funk genre, and DOECHII with this Nicki Minaj inspo rap lol).
Hopefully this makes sense :P
(How do you feel with the Chris Brown and Justin Bieber thing? 👀)
