Life Path Number 9: Mars, Jupiter, expansion, connection to the masses/foreign cultures, humanity, teacher & student Birth Number 7: mystery, intuition, healing, and wisdom. I discovered in an article, her stage name "Hemlocke" came from a name generator and she added the "e" at the end to pay homage to Lorde. Hemlock is a plant and tree used for medicinal purposes. Scorpio Sun & Venus: Her music is centered around processing her intense emotions dealing with awkward phases, growth, love & heartbreak, depression, and lack of control. She places those feelings on upbeat, quirky, synth-pop melodies, adding depth from a playful and humorous space in her music. Jupiter in Pisces: Connecting to music is also a spiritual & emotional release for her. The lyrics of her song "pos" verse, "I was made for the war, fix eternal scars, But here I am rockin' with my flimsy camisole". I associated these lyrics with her plutonian/martian nature. What's the origin of your blog title? I wanted to re-brand from my original url (beesquid) to something more be(e)fitting and after thinking on it for a minute, I realized I liked that sort of like...green ooze spooky slime stuff you see in a lot of horror but also wanted to keep some of my original name.

The 2025 Grammy Awards at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena was more than a night of music—it was a visual spectacle where artistry extended beyond the stage and onto the red carpet. Against the backdrop of tributes to first responders and victims of LA’s recent wildfires, celebrities balanced reverence with expression, delivering a mix of somber elegance and bold, statement-making fashion. The looks… A Night of Elegance and Tribute While black dominated the evening in a nod to the tributes, each star brought their own interpretation of the hue. Miley Cyrus commanded attention in a daring Saint Laurent leather dress with bold cut-outs, effortlessly marrying edge with sophistication. Olivia Rodrigo channeled vintage allure in a slinky halter-neck Versace gown, proving that old Hollywood glamour never fades. Meanwhile, Lady Gaga embraced drama and goth in a Samuel Lewis gown, a poignant tribute that underscored the evening’s solemn undertones. Playful and Light-hearted Ensembles Others chose to defy the evening’s somber tone with bold, playful ensembles. J Balvin brought effortless cool in a flowing silk Dior Men coat, striking a balance between luxury and laid-back ease. Billie Eilish, never one to shy away from eccentricity, put her own spin on classic tailoring, pairing a Prada suit with a sailor hat—an unexpected yet fitting nod to her signature quirky aesthetic. Feathers and Volume: A Fashion Statement Feathers emerged as a prominent theme, adding volume and drama to several ensembles. Sabrina Carpenter wowed in a custom JW Anderson gown adorned with elegant feather accents, striking a balance between modern sophistication and classic allure. Cardi B’s Roberto Cavalli couture mermaid gown shimmered with intricate beadwork and sequins, cascading into an autumnal plume that trailed gracefully to the floor. Ruffles and Tulle: A Nod to Couture Ruffles and cascading tulle also made a striking impression, with artists like Charli XCX and Chappell Roan embracing the dramatic trend. Charli XCX stunned in a custom Jean Paul Gaultier creation from the Spring/Summer 2025 runway, where intricate ruffle detailing added depth and movement. Meanwhile, Chappell Roan exuded vintage allure in an archival piece from Gaultier’s Spring 2003 couture collection, featuring cascading tulle that embodied timeless glamour. "I don't care about hits, SHUT UP!"
-A Doechii Artists Persona Commentary.
Today, I’m diving into Doechii’s lyric video breakdown of her latest mixtape, Denial Is a River, featured on Genius. After watching both the lyric explanation and the official music video, I was left deeply inspired and affirmed in my belief that she is a truly remarkable artist. Her humour, insight, and relatability shine through, making the experience refreshing and meaningful.
Here are the highlights from the video that resonated with me the most:
Time Stamp: 00:00 - 00:30 min.
"The source is in me, everything that I need is within myself and the glory of God to lead me in my pathway."
Doechii begins by grounding herself in her present moment while reflecting on her journey. Her acknowledgment of the divine—"The glory of God took me by surprise"—was both humorous and profound, sparking my curiosity about the spiritual side of her artistry.
This reminded me of something crucial: everything we need to feel whole already exists within us. Her statement encapsulates one of the most essential aspects of creating art—recognizing it as an authentic expression of self.
"I don't care about Hits, SHUT UP!"
Her scream during this part was a raw reflection of the constant inner turmoil many of us feel—the pressure to be seen, valued, and respected. Hearing her verbalize this felt cathartic.
Doechii’s unapologetic stance reminded me that the external markers of success shouldn’t define our creative endeavours. What truly matters is simply being: existing fully in the act of creation without the weight of external validation.
" I'm going to write my story and go on my journey as it is"
This resonated as both a reminder and a challenge. It’s an acceptance of the inherent value of one’s existence and its influence on the art we create. The goal isn’t fame or glory—it’s the transformative process of channelling chaos into a piece of art that reflects the beauty of existence.
"And I made the Mixtape!"
This is the truest reward, to do what it is that you intended and be able to see yourself in that creation.
To go in between the internal and external odd, that pressure one's soul to go against it's nature, and come out as a manifestation of the truth that lives within oneself.
Time stamp: 05:56 -06:01 min.
"You selling doesn't make you a great Artist. All I know is that I want to be a great Artist."
This line encapsulates her philosophy: it’s not about the numbers or commercial success. Being an artist is about self-discovery, representation, and evolving through creation.
Her perspective reframes artistry as an exploration of human imagination and intuition—a journey into the phenomenology of existence itself.
Final Thoughts Listening to Doechii articulate her process was a reminder to embrace my own journey as an artist. Her words are both grounding and liberating, affirming that true artistry lies in the act of creating—not in external measures of success.

"Whoopsie, made a oopsie"
Oopsie… I might have gone a bit deep there (LOL), but isn’t that the beauty of art? It inspires us to reflect, relate, and rediscover ourselves in unexpected ways.
What are your thoughts on Doechii’s insights?

Sound Off: 10 New Songs You Need to Hear Now It's impossible to be across all the new music out each Friday. Luckily, PAPER is here to help you out: each week, we round up 10 of our favorite new songs from artists — emerging and established — to soundtrack your life. From the surreal to the sublime, these songs cover every corner of the music world. The only criteria: they all have to absolutely rip.Isabella Lovestory — "Latina"This new single from rising Honduran musician Isabella Lovestory is witty but sneakily empowering, playing as, in her words, "a commentary on the tokenizing of Latinidad."100 gecs — "Dumbest Girl Alive"The opening track of 100 gecs' new album is a hard-shredding, brilliantly silly rock song, foregrounding 10,000 gecs' pivot to '90s-style rock.Related | Skrillex Interviews 100 gecs About the Future of MusicDoechii with Kodak Black — "What It Is (Block Boy)" Sampling the iconic "No Scrubs," Doechii links up with Kodak Black to show off her immaculate pipes and her incredible, overflowing charisma. Siena Liggins — "3 Bad" Up-and-coming hyperpop singer Siena Liggins returns with this playful, immediate new single, a breakup track that still has a brilliant sense of fun. Lana Del Rey — "The Grants" Lana unearths her family history on this gorgeous, moving ballad, the opener to her hugely-anticipated new album Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd.Related | Lana Del Rey's Album Campaign Is the Ultimate Ex RevengeTei Shi — "MONA LISA" Tei Shi’s radiant new single is ever-so elegant and brilliantly written, a deft pop song that’s sensitive in its outlook but never anything less than emphatic.Ryan Beatty — "Ribbons" The first single from Ryan Beatty’s new album Calico is a delicate, generous ballad, built around a word of powerful affirmation: "It’s brave to be nothing to no one at all."Snakehips with Tkay Maidza — "Show Me The Money" Snakehips links up with the incredible Tkay Maidza on this sinewy dance track, a change of pace for Maidza that shows off her talent for shape-shifting.Sabrina Carpenter — "Feather" This elegant kiss-off is unbothered and kind of bitchy, but it never lets its sense of snark overwhelm proceedings. It confirms that Sabrina Carpenter is, undeniably, the Best New Pop Star. Phoenix and Clairo — "After Midnight" Clairo’s delicate, dulcet vocal tone sounds perfect duetting with the wiry voice of Thomas Mars on this remix of Phoenix’s Alpha Zulu highlight.Photo courtesy of Isabella Lovestory https://www.papermag.com/sound-off-isabella-lovestory-2659614649.html

i feel like i’ve been so busy since the end of october but in a good way! so i spoke in a work conference, went to bodrum for a week, went away for work training last week and sat and passed a BCS exam (tech board things) and i’ve only just come back to work properly. just had a 1-2-1 that went really well! 5 months strong in this role and i’m slaying? feeling really affirmed and supported and i saw black panther on sunday! reconnected with my sisters recently so we’re trying to make an effort to see each other more the current plan is an arcade bar next month for my birthday anyways what have i been into
i’m on season 5 of true blood. she’s kind of losing me now feels a bit ridiculous idk. i don’t like bill and i think it’s ludicrous that he’s even framed as a love interest to sookie when alcide is literally RIGHT there
