Dodge Viper-based Defender prop car from “Viper”

Set in the "near future" as envisioned in the early 1990s, "Viper" was about a federal task force based in fictional Metro City, California, that fought crime using an armored vehicle called the Defender that masqueraded as a Dodge Viper. The show first aired in early 1994 on NBC and continued in syndication between 1996 and 1999.

The Defender was designed by Chrysler, and built on a stretched 1993 Dodge Viper RT/10 chassis by Unique Movie Cars in Las Vegas. A 360-cubic-inch Chrysler V-8 replaced the Viper V-10, driving the rear wheels through a Chrysler 727 3-speed automatic transmission. The suspension, steering, and brakes are thought to be carryover Viper hardware, according to the auction listing.

The driver faces three round instruments, including a 180-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, and a fake crosshair sight, with three simulated screens off to the side showing static images of fictional vehicle diagnostics. The two seats are upholstered in gray leather, but the car lacks seat belts and climate control. You can get fresh air by removing the windows, though, which are attached by Velcro.

What if... Dodge gave the Viper its own sub series? Theoretically, it would feature a base V8 version, a track version of the V8, the supercar V-10 version as well as ACR versions, and lastly a controversial All Electric model. Shown here the V8 Viper would feature a modified exclusive Hemi some supercharged Hemis on the track rated versions. And would be offered in basic colors without the option of stripes to distinguish it from the other higher performance models. It would have a hood scoop but would not have the gills as in higher performance models as well. With this being the base model, it theoretically would offer an automatic as well as manual transmission; with the automatic having a manual shift mode using paddle shifting.

             Hollywood Boulevard was a buzz with police and onlookers. A girl was being pulled from a dumpster. The only saving grace was that it looked to be from an overdose, not a mugging or other. You tried to shake the image of her face as you walked to your spot. You often wished for a different life, but wishing didn’t pay the rent, nor did most jobs seen as acceptable by society. Better to be a hooker with a roof over her head than a homeless nothing dying in the trash.

             With the cops roaming around, it seemed like your Saturday would be slow. That was until a bright yellow Dodge Viper stopped alongside the sidewalk. No one was coming out of the car, and you didn’t see anyone walking up to it. Time to make your move.

             You removed your jacket and draped it over your bag, revealing your pink cropped tank and tiny black skirt. You walked slowly towards the car in your black thigh-high boots. The passenger window was rolled down when you peered inside.

             “Looking for a date, sugar?”

             The man in the driver’s seat looked frustrated at the steering column and stick shift. He sighed. “Just directions.”

             “Sure, for five bucks.”

             He looked up at you incredulously. “You can’t charge me for directions.”

             “Baby, I can do anything I want. I ain’t lost.” Standing up straight, you turned and leaned against the car.

             Another huff sounded from the man. “Fine.”

             You turned and looked into the window again. “Price jumped to ten.”

             He looked annoyed. “Get in.” He handed you a twenty-dollar bill. “Do you have change?”

             “For twenty I can show you tourist destinations and where the stars live.”

             “Just to the Baverse Hotel.”

             You listed the directions for him. With each squeal of the gears, it was increasingly apparent he didn’t know how to drive stick. “This is a hot car,” you gushed. Maybe if you played his ego he’d give you more than a twenty.

             “It’s a bit temperamental.”

             Staring at him for a moment, you finally asked, “If you can’t drive stick, why didn’t you get this car in an automatic?” He definitely looked like he could afford it. His hair was actually styled. His suit looked like it cost more than you’d ever see in a month. He even smelled expensive. Plus, he was staying at the Baverse.

             “It’s not mine.”

             Smirking, you lifted an eyebrow. “Stolen?”

             “Borrowed.” Another exasperated huff left him and the gears grinded again.

             “I think you left your transmission back there.” You pointed to the gear shift. “This is a standard H.”

             “A standard H,” he repeated. He pulled the car over once again. “Have you ever driven a Dodge Viper before?”

             You fricken wished. “No.”

             “You’re about to. Get out.”

             “You can’t be serious.”

             “It’s the only way I can get you off my coat.”

             Scrambling, you opened your door and switched places with the man. Goosebumps ran up your arms as you adjusted the seat and review mirror. Not exactly what you were planning on riding tonight, but you had no complaints. You turned and looked at the man. A different kind of tingle went through your body this time. Turning tricks, you learned to never really look at who you were with. It made it easier to get through. Having a car like this, you expected the man to be older. But he looked young, and much more handsome than what normally came your way.

             “I’m about to take you on the ride of your life. Are you ready?”

             Catching the word play, he rolled his eyes. “Go for it.”

             Not needing to be told twice, you brought the car to life and tested just how fast it could go.

             You felt his eyes on you as you expertly shifted gears to adjust the speed you wanted. “Where’d you learn to drive manual?”

             Slowing as a stop light you turned to look at him. “Grandfather. He was a firm believer if you could drive stick, you could drive anything.” Glancing back at the light to be sure it was still red, you brought your attention back to the man. His eyes were unlike any you’d seen before. They held a kind of power. “What was your first car?”

             “A town car.”

             Definitely unlike any client you’d had before. He’d probably never done a day of hard work or manual labor, especially as he couldn’t even drive a manual car.

             “So,” he continued. “What are you girls making these days?”

             “A hundred.” The car purred as you shifted back into gear when the light turned green.

             A low whistle sounded from the man. “A hundred a night.”

             “A hundred an hour.” You glanced at him when he made another sound of complaint.

             “You have your boot held up by a safety pin and you charge one hundred dollars an hour?”

             That made you chuckle. If only he knew you colored in the heel with black sharpie an hour before he picked you up. “Girl’s gotta eat.”

             He shook his head and sighed. “What’s your name?”

             “What do you want it to be?”

             His eyes burned into your side. Even from a side glance, you knew he was annoyed again. Giving a small laugh, you told him your name. The car paused at another light.

             The man repeated your name then made a low whistle sound. “A hundred an hour. Pretty stiff.”

             Another smirk crossed your face. You were still hoping to get more than a twenty out of him. You lifted your hand from the steering wheel and put it over his crotch, grabbing him. Your eyebrow lifted as you noted he had some size to him. “Well, not yet. But it’s got potential.”

             His incredulous face was back which made you smile. You removed your hand and continued on once the light changed again. The car pulled in front of his hotel.

             Both of you stepped out of the car. It was almost painful when the valet took the car keys from you. A car like that would never be driven by you again. You glanced up at the hotel. You’d never actually been this close to it and were a little stunned. It reminded you of the plaza Kevin stayed in in Home Alone 2. “So, this is it?”

             “This is it,” he confirmed. “Will you be okay to get back?”

             Lifting the twenty, you smiled at him. “Yeah, I‘ll just take a cab.”

             “Okay. Well, thank you for your help tonight.”

             “Sure.”

             As he turned towards the hotel entrance, you put your coat back on and sat down at the bus stop.

             “No taxis?”

             Startled, you weren’t expecting him to come back your way. “No, I like the bus.” You looked up at him. The power showed again in the intensity of his gaze.

             He looked a bit sheepish. “You really said a hundred an hour?”

             “Yeah,” you smiled.

             “Well, if you have no prior engagements, I’d be very pleased if you accompanied me into the hotel.”

             Your smile deepened. Hello rent money. “You got it.” Taking his hand as he helped you off the bench, you beamed, standing next to him ready to enter the hotel. “What’s your name?”

“Kihyun.”

“Kihyun, that’s my favorite name in the world.”

The skepticism was clear on his face. “You don’t say.”

“I’ll tell you what, Kihyun, this is destiny. We were meant to cross paths tonight.”

Before you could move another step however, he handed you his long trench you’d sat on in the car earlier.

             “Put this on.”

             You did as told, but looked at him confused. “Why?”

             “Let’s just say this isn’t an establishment that rents rooms by the hour.”

             What he said didn’t fully register until you stepped through the doorway. Your mouth fell slack and legs stopped moving. A giant chandelier hung from the center of the lobby. The walls were lined with gold trim. There wasn’t a carpeted floor in sight, but instead, marble tile. You couldn’t imagine using the bathroom in this place, let alone stay in it. Before turning tricks, the fanciest hotel you’d ever been in was a Marriot, and the Baverse made it look like a Motel 6. “Holy shit,” you finally breathed. You moved your attention from the hotel to the people inside. They looked like they’d stepped out of a Republican convention sponsored by Chanel.

             “It’s alright,” he whispered in your ear. He led you towards a counter and let go of your arm to talk to a clerk.

             Looking around again, you realized why he wanted you in the coat. It wasn’t that you wouldn’t fit in with these rich elites, but stand out as a cheap hooker. You pressed against the wall with one hand and brought the other to your hip, opening up the coat. Any looking your way could see your scantily-clad appearance.

             Kihyun was very friendly to the clerk, but you didn’t pay attention to what he said. You were waiting for his reaction to seeing you unhidden. When he turned to you, his eyes started with your face, down to your chest, hips, thighs, and back up to your eyes. Getting in the car right away, he didn’t have the chance to fully see what he was paying for. He had a skilled poker face however, and didn’t show any emotion as he wrapped an arm around your waist and led you to the elevator.

             Another couple was waiting. You again wanted them to see who it was Kihyun was taking home for the night. Lifting your leg up and pressing your foot against the wall, you leaned forward, pretending to examine your exposed thigh. “Oh no, honey. I’ve got a runner in my pantyhose.” The woman in the couple looked absolutely horrified. The man however was practically drooling. You grinned at them and let out a small chuckle. “I’m not wearing panty hose,” and dropped your foot.” Looking back at Kihyun, his face was an interesting mix of smug and annoyed. He knew you were playing a game and wasn’t going to let you win it.

             The elevator door opened and you were once again surprised. Not only did it have an attendant, but there was also a sofa inside. Excited, never having seen a sofa in an elevator, you ran inside and plopped down on it. “Well color me happy, there’s a seat in here for two!” You lifted your leg to again reveal your lack of attire.

             Kihyun looked apologetically to the couple who had been waiting. “First time in an elevator.”

             He stepped in but the couple chose to stay out and wait for another elevator. “Penthouse,” he instructed the attendant.

             When the door closed you laughed. “Sorry, couldn’t help myself.

             He gave you a stern look. “Try.”

             You stood up next to him as the elevator stopped. The attendant turned your direction and bellowed, “The penthouse,” then guided you both from the elevator.

             Grabbing his nametag, you winked at him. “Thanks for the ride, Hyungwon.” You walked towards the only door on the floor. When you realized Kihyun wasn’t next to you, you looked back to see him glaring at Hyungwon, who apparently had been staring at you. The other man quickly shuffled back into the elevator.

Kihyun made his way to the door with an electronic key in hand. “Have you been in a penthouse before?” With that he opened the door and allowed for you to step inside.

Your heart sank down in your stomach. This was not a hotel room, it was a fricken resort. Directly across from the entrance was a dining area. The table could seat 8 people. To the left was a bar. A bar! Then, there was enough space that there were some stairs leading down from the bar to what looked like a living room. To the right looked like what might be an office area, complete with a desk covered in files and papers. And this was just what you could see. Surely there had to be a bedroom and bathroom somewhere as well.

Taking in your expression, Kihyun gave you a proud smirk. “Impressed?” He then took your bag and coat.

Yes, but you wanted to wipe his smug little expression off his face. “You know, as a matter of fact, they do rent this room by the hour.”

His smile grew and he gave a small laugh. That’s when you noticed the balcony. “Wow,” you breathed as you walked out onto it. “I bet you could see the ocean from here.” Never had you seen the city look like this, like gems on black velvet.

“I’m sure you could.” Kihyun was standing in the doorway, watching you curiously.

He wanted to get down to business, which you were more than happy to oblige. You followed him back into the room. He sat down at the desk. You sat across from him on an ottoman. “So,” you prompted. He was paying. It was up to him to decide what he wanted. “What do you plan to do with me?”

He sighed and began straightening papers on his desk. “You know, I haven’t the slightest idea. I didn’t exactly plan this.”

“Do you always plan everything?”

“Everything,” he nodded.

“Yeah, can’t say I’m much a planner. I’m more spontaneous. Fly by the seat of my pants kinda girl. You know, living moment by moment.” You had to be in your profession.

The curious look was back on his face. The silence was strange to you. You wished he’d get to it already. “You know, we could start with you paying me. That might break the ice.”

“Of course.”

As he reached around for his wallet you got up and sat on his desk to be closer to him. After he handed you the money you rolled it and stuffed it inside your left boot. He looked a little uncomfortable. “You’re sitting on my fax.”

You quirked an eyebrow. “Well, that’s one I’ve never been on before.” You shifted your weight which allowed him to pull the papers from under your ass. When you settled back down, you unzipped your right boot and pulled out your collection of condoms. Listing the colors, flavors, and sizes you had available, Kihyun had that incredulous look once again.

“A buffet of safety.”

Shrugging you gave him a knowing look. “Gotta be a safety girl.”

He closed his eyes and exhaled. “Why don’t we just talk for a while.” He got up and walked away from you, clearly needing a little breathing room.

You sighed and put the condoms back in your boot. “Talking, sure. So, Kihyun, are you in L.A. for business or pleasure?”

“Business, I think.”

“Business, you think . . .” You got off the desk to follow him. “So let me guess . . . you’re a lawyer.”

He quirked an eyebrow. “What makes you say that?”

“You’ve got that sharp useless look about you.”

Kihyun’s eyes focused in on you, giving you that power stare and your knees felt weak.

Suddenly, a bell sounded. Both of you looked to the door. “What’s that?”

“Room service,” he answered.

“Ah. Well, might as well make myself useful.” You opened the door. The bell boy stepped in holding a tray.

“Room service, Mr. Yoo.” The bell boy then saw you and his cheeks turned pink. It took him a moment to collect himself. “Uh, where would you like it?”

Looking to Kihyun, you repeated, “Where would we like it?”

Kihyun was now sitting comfortably in one of the chairs in the living room area. He waved his hand. “At the bar.”

Likewise, you motioned to the bar and followed the bell boy. He set the tray down. He looked to Kihyun. “Would there be anything else, sir?”

“No.”

The bell boy nodded at Kihyun then looked at you expectantly. Was he serious?

“Fifty bucks, kid. Seventy if you expect him,” you motioned to Kihyun, “to watch.”

Kihyun laughed then got up, hurrying over to the two of you. He placed some bills in the bell boy’s hand. And thanked him while escorting him out.

Realization washed over you. “A tip. I didn’t even think he was waiting for a tip.”

Kihyun chuckled again. “It’s okay. I gave him enough to forget about it.” He began busying himself with whatever was on the tray.

You still felt embarrassed. Trying to distract yourself, you sat down on the small steps. “Mind if I take my boots off?”

“Not at all.”

Once your boots were off, he walked over with a champagne flute in his hand. He looked you over curiously. “Didn’t you tell that couple you weren’t wearing pantyhose?”

Looking at your legs you smiled up at him. “These are called stockings, and you couldn’t see them with my boots covering them.” You also removed them and stuffed them in your boot.

He offered you the glass and you accepted. The bottle of it also probably cost more than you’d ever see in a week. You took a sip and hummed. It was certainly the most delicious champagne you’d ever had.

Kihyun then presented a gold dish and lifted the lid. “Have a strawberry.”

You looked to the dish then him. “Why?”

“It brings out the flavor of the champagne.”

“Huh.” You took a sip of the liquid then bit into a strawberry. It was interesting for sure. You looked up to Kihyun, who was watching you, but not partaking in drinking or eating. “Aren’t you having any?”

He shook his head. “I don’t drink.”

This man increasingly made you more frustrated every second you spent with him. You put down the glass and strawberry you were munching. “Look, I appreciate this whole, seduction scene you’ve got going, but let me clue you in; I’m a sure thing. So can we please just get moving already.”

He had a wave of arrogance about him as he leaned against the bar. “Time seems to be an issue with you. Let’s fix that now.”

“Great, let’s get started.”

“How much for the whole night?”

“The . . . the whole night?”

He nodded, confidence resting in his brow.

You’d never given anyone the whole night. You didn’t like his smugness however. “You couldn’t afford it.” But as you said it, there was no doubt in your mind he could afford anything he wanted.

“Try me.”

Not giving too much thought, you came up with a price to cover rent for a bit. “Seven hundred.”

“Done.”

             Your mouth fell slack. God, what it must be like to just throw down money like that.

             He bent down and grabbed your flute and started walking toward another room. “Now we can relax for the evening.”

             Your head was still spinning with the fact that you just made $700 in one night. You almost felt dizzy as you followed him into the never-ending hotel suite. This room had a long sofa and TV.

Kihyun placed your glass on a side table. “I have to make some calls. Will you be okay entertaining yourself for a bit?” He handed you the remote for the TV.

You spotted the mini fridge and pointed to it. “May I?”

“Please,” he motioned. “Help yourself.”

With several snacks and tiny alcoholic beverages before you on the floor, you’d created a mini feast. Kihyun was heatedly speaking to someone in a language that wasn’t English, so you ignored him and became invested in a sitcom on TV.

When the background noise of his chatter grew quiet, you looked over to him. He was off the phone and watching you.

“I have a little carpet picnic over here. Would you like to join?”

He shook his head, so you went back to watching the show. Your concentration was soon lost though. You felt his eyes on you and saw him shift in your peripheral vision. Turning to look at him again, he had moved down closer to you on the couch.

             The intensity was back in his eyes, and it sent butterflies to your stomach. The confidence was strong as he looked at you, demanding to come satisfy him.

             Turning off the television, you walked into the other room to grab your collection of condoms and a pillow for your knees. It seemed impossible to look away from Kihyun’s eyes however. It was that power he had. It sent the butterflies back to your tummy.

             With your hips still in his grasp, Kihyun suddenly pulled you against him roughly. Both of you cried out as he did. Slowly, he pulled you forward, then again pushed you hard into him. Any chance you had in keeping control was out the window. Your nails dug slightly into his chest with each thrust.

             You allowed your eyes to close, enjoying the buildup he was creating.

             “Look at me,” he commanded.

             Your body shook as you obeyed his order, moaning loudly as he thrusted you against him harder still.

             Keeping one hand on your hip, he moved the other back to your clit, stroking it upward.

             “Fuuuck,” you screamed out. You squeezed at his chest and moved your hips harshly, making him groan as well. “Please, Kihyun.” You’d never begged a client unless they requested it, but without your usual dominance of the situation, what choice did you have.

             “What baby?”

             “Please. I need to go faster, please.”

             He saw the desperation in your face. “Okay,” he nodded. Giving you control once again, he moved his hand from your hip and grabbed your ass cheek. His other continued pleasuring your bud.

             You grinded against him quicker, though not as fast as when you started. Going slow as Kihyun wanted caused you to also want to savor and enjoy the ride.

             Both of your movements were getting sloppy as the need for release grew stronger. You were so close, and you could feel him tensing beneath you as well. Kihyun moved both his hands back to your hips and pulled you hard against him. The room echoed as you cried out together, cumming at the same time. You shook as the orgasm took over, making you clench against his length not of your own fruition. After a few moments of deep breathing then finally lifting off him, you fell to his side, the two of you panting.

             “I can see why you charge such a high rate.”

             That made you chuckle and he laughed softly with you.

             “Glad to hear you enjoyed yourself.”

             Kihyun got off the bed and looked to you. “I’m going to hop in the shower. You’re welcome to join me.”

             “Sure,” you nodded. “I’ll be there in a minute.” You were still catching your breath. And to be completely honest, your legs felt a little shaky, and you didn’t want him to see if you stumbled.

             He bounded to the bathroom. It was your every intention to join him. But, you hadn’t came like that before in a long time, maybe ever. Not even when giving yourself pleasure. The result had you feeling both content and suddenly very sleepy. Your eye lids felt so heavy. Before you knew it you fell into the calm blackness as sleep overwhelmed you.

Strength in numbers. Numbers required in moments of weakness and of fright. The scent of sweat and adrenaline was palpable . . acrid. Indecipherable to the common eye , automatic rifles quivered within nervous hands and pointer fingers hovered dangerously close and eager to triggers. Children. Even if they were over twenty , Sephiroth viewed the foot soldiers as children. None of them had made it to the ranks of the SOLDIER program , and the realized not how entirely disposable their lives were. They were not sent to defeat the prodigal soldier , yet they stood obedient , foolishly , and quivered at the sight of a hero turned enemy. Ten more.

Even twenty more men would have not mattered. Had he been capable of emotion , he would pitied them for they were pawns just as he had been. Masamune was freed with the eloquent extension of his arm , and breaths became strangled inside throats. It took , as he expected , a single anxious and untrained finger for chaos to erupt. Shinra's gunners exercised the only training they knew. To fire. Fire fast. Men groaned , men fell , and clip after clip emptied. In frenzy more men fell to the bullets of their partners , but suddenly it was every man for himself. If a bullet did not slay messy and painful , the masamune slashed to cleave life without pain . . except for the pain of fear in all the madness. Body was a blur of silver and black as he dashed in acircle , dodging bullets and deflecting the rest.

The bodies thudded. The limbs catapulted through the sky like crimson rockets. "PLEASE!" The last gunner was all spit and piss ; fear ripping the last control he held over his body until knees brought him to the ground. Masamune raised high , appearing to touch the moon , but it did not take that last life. It would have been kinder to cleave head from body , but no one thought the prodigal experiment to be kind. Snipers had been waiting. A smart tactic to deploy against anyone other than Sephiroth and cruel. Four guns fired simultaneously , and at thirty metres away he heard the bullets cutting through air. One was dodged , and it made a horrid show of ripping the fallen gunner's thigh. Sephiroth did not hear the scream as the second bullet was cleaved in half.

The switch in position had the third bullet falling off target completely , and the fourth he caused to explode inches before it reached his side. Heat kissed his skin , silver hairs were blown away from his face , and the kinetic energy from the explosion congested hearing. It masked a fifth bullet. Sephiroth pivoted on the heels of his boots with a force that would cause whiplash in any other being , but a sudden and swift force threw him off balance. He saw fire. Flames turning the intruder @axgmented to ash. It happened in a blink , and even a god was not fast enough. The bullet would have ripped through his throat. At her height , it took the woman through the flesh between breast and shoulder. The sniper , the bullet , the push , the sacrifice.

Sephiroth's mind switched from one thing to the next. He forced himself to think quick and act even quicker. The wetness of her blood marring his face went ignored as he caught her body before she hit the ground. Let her die. It matters not. Two seconds of agonizing thought , and he dropped her with some gentility to the ground. The snipers were fleeing ; he heard their agitated hearts. A vampiric bat on a prowl , Sephiroth's body seemed to be one with the air as he rose from the ground and exploded forth towards his targets. He did not stop at each vantage point to dispose of them , he cut off arms , legs, heads , torsos as he flew by in a half-moon circle.

Blood. Scream. Blood. Scream. Blood. Nothingness. Until they all fell. Masamune was slashed to dispose of the excess blood as he touched ground as gentle as an angel beside the woman who took the bullet for him. Why. Why. Viper eyes glared at the woman. In spite of hostility , he dropped to a single knee and wrapped a single arm beneath her. Bleeding , her body was pressed flush against his so that she did not fall as they took to the skies. High and far. Specs in the sky.

“You're right. Not usually this many together. Acting differently. As for blinding them... I got that covered. No sense letting them attack first. Just follow my lead. Pitch in as you see fit. Improvise, adapt, overcome. You might want to close your eyes tightly now... until you hear my sword slashing, and their screams..."

Eskel's deep voice returned to the raven haired Sorceress, viper eyes shifting off her and back on to the gathering Devourers... the Necrophages clearly ravenous and hungry as their namesake. He marked their positions and numbers in his mind, then, concentrating on the wick of the Zerrikanian Sun Bomb, he cast a mild Igni Sign and lit it up, before aiming and throwing the device into their midst, bringing up his now free casting hand. In the time he had waiting for it to explode, moving rapidly with his enhanced agility, he cast a powerful protective Quen Sign shield upon Yennefer and the horses, before raising his silver sword and charging the Necrophages. He heard them hissing and screeching, readying to lunge at and attack him, outright salivating, but before they could strike the flash bomb detonated in their midst. A blinding light filled much of the surrounding woods in an instant, his mutated eyes automatically filtering out the light by dilating... yet despite the mutations of the Necrophages, it seemed their own alterations were not the same in that regard.

They screamed out, recoiled and writhed at the sudden flash of a burning sun in the middle of a rain storm, briefly casting out even the magical darkness, rubbing at their eyes or clawing out blindly in his direction... wild strikes easy to dodge, while his silver sword flashed and got to work, separating flesh, muscle, and bone. Blood and limbs flew this way and that, arms, legs and heads as he danced among them, mixing in a powerful Aard Sign now and again between strikes, blasting bunches of them off their feet, slamming them into trees and the muddy ground. He drew his crossbow with silver tipped steel bolts as well, taking aim and firing into skulls, or pinning some against trees before finishing them off, rapidly reloading. Even so, they may have been blinded by the bomb, but they indeed had other enhanced senses to compensate, and before long started getting reorganized, focusing on attacking him with more team work, forcing him on the defensive, remaining dancing rapidly around them, picking his targets carefully while the Sorceress provided assistance from where she was.

Eskel returned to Yennefer with a slow shake of his head... though further pointed comments and exchanges between them were quickly silenced when her magical light burst apart into numerous shards, unnatural darkness descending around them in turn, along with an ominous silence. Well.. not entirely silent. His enchanted silver wolf head medallion hummed audibly and spasmed wildly, rattling against his armor... and a number of abominations ahead of them, lurking in the shadows, made themselves known. In a flash he instinctively bolted off Scorpion and was treading upon the damp, muddy forest soil, unsheathing his glinting silver sword and moving on foot ahead of her position, putting himself between their horses and the lurking monsters. Sizing them up, he focused his enhanced senses on them, scanning their surroundings... the darkness unable to hide them from him, magical source or not. He knew at once what they were... or at least what they seemed to be... but not exactly what had been done to them... the differences. They had been altered unnaturally, it was obvious, within and without. His mind raced rapidly, considering the matter and them, searching for answers from his past experiences with unnatural beings. In his free, casting hand, he drew a Zerrikanian Sun Bomb from his belt... but did not yet light its fuse up, the Witcher's viper eyes still steadily assessing his quarry, low, calm, methodical voice speaking aloud as much to himself as he was to the raven haired Sorceress, answering her trepid voice.

“Devourers. Species of Necrophages... good number of them too, from the smell and sound of it, lurking out there in the dark. Something different about them too. Don't smell or look right. Mutated. Would explain the effect on your spell. This darkness. Could be the handiwork of a brilliant, powerful, renegade Sorcerer I know of... one of the original Witcher creators, Idarran of Ulivo... seen a number of his grotesque creations set free, roaming the lands. All manner of nasty experiments and rituals done to them... makes them far more powerful in various ways, even magically. You'll want to keep back, and stick to a support role for now. Need to assess their strengths and weaknesses... figure out what exactly we're dealing with."

GTA Spano 

The GTA Spano is a supercar born in Spain in the company founded by Domingo Ochoa in 1994 and which resulted in this supercar presented to the world at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. At its heart beats a huge engine, a 7.9-liter block in a 10-cylinder vee configuration, the work of Ilmor Engineering and initially based on the Dodge Viper engine capable of developing a power of 925 hp and 1,288 Nm of torque in its last version aimed exclusively at the rear wheels. Compared to the first version, the engine modifications were not few, with a dry sump, forged crankshaft, titanium valves, redesigned combustion chambers and a good pair of turbos to force the engine to perform even higher. The transmission was carried out by the Italians from CIMA with a seven-speed automatic gearbox. The body was made of carbon fiber and Kevlar, while the chassis was made of carbon fiber, graphene, titanium and Kevlar to create a monocoque structure weighing 80 kg. Theoretical figures are 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 370 km/h. Although the production of the GTA Spano was going to be extended to 99 units, the manufacturer only managed to finish a total of 12 cars: ten from the first series (six with a naturally aspirated 8.3 engine and another four with the 8.4 biturbo block) and two from the the second 7.9 V10 biturbo. Of the two second-generation copies produced, one was also destroyed for the homologation process and the other, the only one left alive, is the one that appears in these images.

Try to find one for sale and you're looking at a countrywide search with a literal handful of results.

There have been, and still are, a lot of awesome wagons, but none like the CTS-V.

There's the B6 S4 Avant. The great 4.2L V8, manual and actually sold in the states. But all wheel drive.

There's the current RS 6 Avant and the E63 AMG Wagon. Also AWD and, of course, no manual.

The E61 M5 Touring which was a V10 wagon, but automatic only and not sold in the U.S.

And then the missed opportunity that was the Dodge Magnum. An SRT10 variant would have been the dream. Viper powertrain in a wagon? 🤤

They did it with the Ram.

This is one of those cars that's very easily predictable as a future collectors car.

Casting Call: Vector WX-3

Well, it’s been a long time since I’ve written one of these, and now, here comes the second installment of probably my favorite saga to date: the Vector Saga. Thanks to the current situation, the delivery of my car was delayed, but it’s here now, and here we are.

Remember the W8? That wedge-shaped car which I felt was more extreme than the already extreme Lamborghini Countach? It’ll need a worthy successor... and this’ll be it. This... is the Vector WX-3.

First, as usual, a bit of background. The Vector WX-3 was a prototype American sports car manufactured by a company known as Vector Motors, then known as Vector Aeromotive. The car was designed by Gerald “Jerry” Wiegert, founder of Vector Aeromotive. The car was officially known as the AWX-3, standing for Avtech Wiegert Experimental Model 3; the “3” signified that the WX-3 was the third model Vector had made, after the W2 and W8.

The WX-3 was intended to be the successor to the W8, conceived by Wiegert in 1992. The WX-3 was more extreme than the W8 was, featuring three engine configurations, allowing for some ludicrous power that would be even on par with modern hypercar standards.

The beating heart of the WX-3 was intended to be a 7.0L V8 with variable boost for the twin-turbochargers. Yes, this thing had variable boost, just like the W8. This allowed for settings between 600 BHP to a staggering 1,200 BHP, on par with many modern hypercars. The prototypes used the same highly-modified 6.0L Rodeck twin-turbo V8 as seen on the W8.

The car’s interior was also very similar to that of the W8’s, featuring a screen as opposed to analog gauges. The car also featured the same Sony CDX-A2001 ten-disc CD changer gracing the right side of the cockpit as the W8, as well as the same 3-speed Turbo-HydraMatic 425 automatic transmission mated to that beast of an engine; the transmission also had the same fighter aircraft throttle-like device. Vector employees had stated that while the prototypes used the three-across seating arrangement found on certain W8s, it would be more likely that the production WX-3 would use two bucket seats.

The car also featured the same scissor door setup as the W8.

Rear visibility on the WX-3 still wasn’t too great, although it was a marked improvement over the practically non-existent rear visibility of the W8. The rear of the car looks a lot more subdued compared to the front. As usual, it appears the location of the license plate holder was likely an afterthought.

The WX-3 also incorporates what I guess could be considered a very early version of active aero systems, featuring two movable flaps which lifted up when the car was braking, acting as an airbrake.

The WX-3 was first shown off at the 1992 Geneva Motor Show, although at first, strictly a design study, sans engine. The car was originally painted silver. After the car returned from Geneva, a related car joined it: the WX-3R.

The WX-3R was essentially the roadster version of the WX-3, with both sharing mechanical components and similar styling. However, the WX-3R featured dual bucket seats as opposed to the three-abreast seating of the WX-3 and was painted purple.

The WX-3 and WX-3R were then both displayed at the 1993 Geneva Motor Show, with the WX-3 having been repainted into aquamarine; this was done to promote another of Wiegert’s companies, Aquajet, a manufacturer of personal watercrafts, as the Aquajet logo featured aquamarine and purple as its primary colors. In fact, both the WX-3 and WX-3R appeared on the Aquajet website; however it appears the website is currently broken and will require an archival tool such as the Wayback Machine to access.

The WX-3 was intended to be put into production in 1993; however, problems began to surface. 

In 1993, as Wiegert was preparing for production of the WX-3, a rather shady Indonesian company with Bermudan ties named MegaTech forced a hostile takeover of Vector Aeromotive; this ultimately led to the firing of Wiegert from his own company. MegaTech then attempted to produce the WX-3, but Wiegert sued the company and copyrighted his own design, so MegaTech could not produce the WX-3. Ironically, this would also spell the end of the WX-3; only two were produced.

Wiegert eventually regained control of the company and has been working on a new car known as the WX-8 for numerous years now; in fact, it’s been so long we may as well call it developmental hell. The WX-3 and WX-3R also came back under Wiegert’s ownership. However, in order to fund development of the WX-8, Wiegert decided to auction off both the WX-3 and WX-3R at a Sotheby’s auction in 2019; both cars were ultimately auctioned off in mid-January 2019, with the WX-3 fetching $617,500 and the WX-3R fetching $500,000. Both are now in the hands of private collectors.

Prior to the auction, the WX-3 appeared in an episode of the Burke’s Law reboot and was also spotted at various car shows.

Okay, now that we’ve gotten all that out of the way, let’s get to the reason why you’re here.

This… is the Hot Wheels version of the Vector WX-3. Named the Vector “Avtech” WX-3 in the Hot Wheels lineup, this casting was first introduced in 1993 as a Vector employee exclusive, as shown above; the car was painted in the silver color that was originally on the actual car. Only 500 of this version was produced. This casting, like many other castings designed throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, was designed by Larry Wood.

A more common version, painted in the purple as seen on the real WX-3R, was released the same year. A version exists of the purple version with normal 5SP wheels.

The WX-3 has a plastic roof which is riveted onto the rear. No back window is present. This casting features notably very few tampos, apart from the Vector logo on the wing and the black semicircle on the door intended to represent the lower window. The side vents are noticeable open and one can peer through them.

For the record, there isn’t very much going on in the rear of this casting either. Just the rear mesh grill, taillamps and triangular exhaust pipes.

The WX-3 has one of the least releases of any supercar or hypercar concept made by Hot Wheels around this period, with only five known releases. The casting was retooled slightly in 1997, with the prominent side vents closed off. This would ironically be the casting’s last release to date, in the Super Show Cars 5-Pack in 1997 (a version exists with open side vents, shown below), alongside the Dodge Viper RT/10, Jaguar XJ220, Avus quattro and Zender Fact 4. A few other combinations of the 5-Pack exist but this is the only one containing the Vector.

As mentioned above, this casting has not been seen since 1997; it has not been featured in any edition of the Final Run Series, but is assumed to have been retired since the casting has not appeared in the mainline for over 20 years and is unlikely to return.

I hope this long writeup has given you a better idea on this turbocharged thrasher, and what is quite possibly my new favorite supercar from the ‘90s; step aside, Ferrari F50. As usual, I’d do something like this any day.
