The League Sheds Spotlight on Complicated History of Great American Pastime
We all know the names Josh Gibson, Satchel Paige, Hank Aaron and Jackie Robinson. But, did you know they are all products of The League? #theleague #documentary
One of my fondest memories growing up in Missouri was looking forward to a program run by Anheuser Busch for young baseball fans.  If a student received  ‘Straight A’s,”  the reward was a season pass to the St. Louis Cardinals season. It was a great incentive to do well in school, but for a die hard baseball fan like myself it meant everything!  I got to see Mel Gray, Lou Brock, Ozzie Smith, Bob…

I know I'm a few days late for Halloween, but here's a video with some important implications for the Skeleton War
Tumblr media
So, we've all seen this gif. It turns out, there's much misinformation about the origins of it. In the same vein as Kevin Perjurer's deep dive into the Disney Channel Jingle, or hbomberguy's exposé on the Roblox OOF, another intrepid YouTube researcher has done the legwork and found the real story.

Desperate Souls, Dark City and the Legend of Midnight Cowboy
Tumblr media
The strength of Nancy Buirski’s DESPERATE SOULS, DARK CITY AND THE LEGEND OF MIDNIGHT COWBOY (2022, TCM) is its evocation of a particular moment in time that was instrumental in creating John Schlesinger’s first U.S. film and providing it with a receptive audience. Buirski combines new interviews with cast members, critics, historians and Schlessinger’s nephew with archival recordings of Schlesinger, Dustin Hoffman (who wasn’t available during filming), screenwriter Waldo Salt and original author James Leo Herlihy, footage from related films, news feeds from the late 1960s and the Schlesinger family’s home movies. She covers a lot, from the film’s production to the anti-war movement, life in New York as it faced bankruptcy, the city’s counterculture and even the decline of the Western. That may seem like too much for a 101-minute movie, but her combination of images, spoken word and period music is so adept the film reaches the level of poetry. Watching the final images of MIDNIGHT COWBOY (1969) slowly dissolve into footage of wounded soldiers in Viet Nam says more about the film’s reflection of its times than could mere words. Salt’s daughter Jennifer, who also played Voight’s lost love in the film is particularly articulate in describing what the film meant to her as a budding resistance member and the daughter of a blacklisted writer. Voight manages to reflect on the era without descending into his usual right-wing pontificating and is at times quite moving. And Brenda Vaccaro is…well, she’s just Brenda Vaccaro, funny and perceptive. One of my favorite moments among many was her description of the party scene, for which Schlesinger opened the doors to any members of the Warhol Factory and other cultural rebels who wanted to show up. She mentions a girl with green hair and a green monkey who was emphatically herself and then says it scared her, delivered with the kind of quirky, good-humored intimacy that lies behind her best work.

There are times when I like to reimagine characters who existed in history because why not. Basing them from actual existing portraits or references to the best of my ability, so yes.
Happy birthday, Alexander the Great!
It's often said that his birthday happens around the days of July 19-21 but I most often celebrate it on the 20th and the 21st. Yes, I celebrate his birthday because that's what humble retainers do for their king.

Memories of last November at Barbican; a generous and inspiring talk by Beate Hølmebakk of the architecture practice Manthey Kula, in association with The Architecture Foundation. Two of their projects have been nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award: The Chamber Pålsbu hydro-electric power station in 2009, and The Akkarvik roadside restroom in 2011.
Above : Manthey Kula - Ode to Osaka, 2015 in relation to Sverre Fehn. Manthey Kula was commissioned by The National Museum of Architecture to develop a concept for some kind of realization of Sverre Fehn’s un-built competition proposal of a breathing space for the Osaka World Fair in 1970. The installation is the result of a long design process where questions concerning the solution of the built piece and it’s relationship to the initial competition entry had to be addressed and sorted out: The questions concerned technical issues, matters of form and material, geometry, size and siting, and eventually that of exhibition content. The work on show is not Sverre Fehn’s project for the Osaka World fair, but a contemporary installation based on, and honoring his idea. It is a structure consisting of an airlock building and an inflated, moving space. All details are developed for the installation to be dismounted and re-erected.

Moonage Daydream is Moving, Electric Tribute to David Bowie
David Bowie was one of kind and never backed down from reinvention or fighting for his fellow artists. Moonage Daydream is a intensely, colorful tribute to a man who was unapologetically original #moonagedaydream #tiff22
During the heyday of MTV and music videos, David Bowie unapologetically inquired whey Black artists weren’t in rotation at the network, a sentiment echoed by many other artists including the late Rick James.  David Bowie never backed down from anything in his life or career and had no problem reinventing himself when the industry began to grow bored with him or his interest in his own image began…

I envisioned a Gabon Viper: like in the animal documentaries I used to watch. A thick bodied snake, long fangs. What are it scales? Tiny triangles every shade of brown.

Part one The Kalief Browder Documentary aired last night on Spike TV. This story is so important for ALL people to see. This young boy was brutally beaten by CO’s, kept in solitary confinement, starved, and wrongfully put in jail for a crime he didn’t commit all at the young age of 16 years old. This documentary shows images that people from the outside looking in need to see. We are “trusting” the judicial system and corrections officers to assure that these inmates are safe within their quarters but they are just as crooked as a lot of these police offers.  Make sure you tune is next Wednesday at 10:00pm eastern time for part two of the documentary.

The Problem is More Than Deep in Dongnan Chen's Documentary, Singing in the Wilderness
Dongnan Chen's Singing in the Wilderness is a #documenatary about the Miao Christian Choir. It's playing at the @VCFilmFestival later today and it's worth investigating! #LosAngeles - #Music #festivals
Playing at the LAAPFF 2022 at the Directors Guild of America on May 6, 2022 5:00 pm (buy tickets) Dongnan Chen‘s Singing in the Wilderness (旷野歌声) is a very sombre look at lives of those still living at Little Well Village in Yunnan Province, China. The Miao Christian Choir found fame when they appeared on national television back around 2003, and this documentary looks at what’s come from it, for…

Listen - A Documentary about the Human Relationship with Music
“LISTEN” is a documentary that explores the involvement of music in everyday life through four unique professions.
Through exploring these professions, the audience gains an insight into the importance of music with regard to our emotions, moods, personalities and individual differences.
The Idea for the documenatary stemmed from overlooking the study of music cognition. Music cognition is the study of what your brain is doing when you are learning, listening, playing, practicing and imagining music. In other words,it is the study of the human relationship with music.
I decided to approach the subject from a more understanding practical level and explore the relationship people have with music who know it the most. I decided the best possible people to interview for this style of documentary would be those who actually make their living from music, whether it is practising, educating, producing or playing.
From interviewing these four professional people I was able to cover all of the aspects of music cognition.
