Ryan Adamczeski at The Advocate:
A Christian lifeguard is suing the city of Los Angeles for "severe emotional distress" after he was stationed near a Pride flag last year. Jeffery Little, who has worked for the city for 22 years, filed a lawsuit on Friday claiming he is being discriminated against for his evangelical faith by being made to stand in the same vicinity as the Progress Pride flag. Little alleges he was suspended from his role with the department’s background investigation unit last year after he took down three LGBTQ+ flags during Pride month. The Los Angeles county board of supervisors voted last year to require the rainbow banner be flown during the month of June at government buildings, which includes lifeguard stands. Little, who claimed the flags present a “direct conflict” with his religious beliefs, fought to be placed at stations that would not fly the flag, as they did not have the right flag poles to fly any banner.
Little arrived to his station at Dockweiler Beach on June 21, 2023 and found three nearby facilities displaying the flag, ordered by the lifeguard division's chief, according to the complaint. After he removed them, Little said he was given a "direct order" from the chief to ensure the flag was displayed throughout the month.
Little is accusing the department of “religious discrimination” and “retaliation," alleging that officials did not “substantively engage" with his objections and instead threatened "discipline and eventual termination for failure to raise the Progress Pride flag.” He is asking for damages based on "severe emotional distress" and a “standing exemption” from raising the flag. The lifeguard seemed particularly triggered by the turquoise and pink stripes on the original Pride flag designed by Gilbert Baker, which represent magic and sex, respectively. Those two stripes are, notably, not on the Progress Pride flag, the subject of Little's suit. Still, Little claimed that queer identity goes against the "purpose of the human person."
Evangelical Christian lifeguard Jeffrey Little got triggered by a Progress Pride Flag while being a lifeguard on at Will Rogers State Beach near LA. Cry me a river and boo freakin' hoo! Little is suing the city of Los Angeles, California as a result.🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

One of my favorite things about Wayward Guide is getting to watch Lauren and Nick play off of each other, especially since Nick doesn't really act in things much anymore. Ags and Aubrey just gel, and you can just see the absolute blast Nick and Lauren are having messing around. Their improvs are my favorite parts of the bloopers lol.

A California woman has been arrested after allegedly getting caught with over $450,000 worth of merchandise stolen from drug stores.
Claudia Cruz, 35, of Oakland, was booked into Alameda County Jail on charges of organized retail crime, possession of stolen property and conspiracy to commit a crime, revealed a statement from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) on Friday.
Investigations began in July, with officials from the CHP Golden Gate Division Organised Retail Crime Taskforce conducting a series of surveillance operations.
On August 15, investigators executed search warrants at an Oakland residence and two vehicles, where as well as seizing a “large quantity of stolen merchandise,” they learned “the suspect” was also leasing a storage facility.
Armed with another search warrant, the ORCTF investigators discovered even more stolen goods at the storage unit — bringing the total value of the items, mostly pilfered from drug stores, to a whopping $450,000.
The arrest comes one week after Governor Gavin Newsom’s office published a press release reporting “record progress” by the CHP in combatting retail theft.
The August 15 release said the ORCTF has made 884 arrests since January and seized nearly a quarter of a million stolen goods valued at more than $7.2 million.
This is also following the governor’s building on his Real Public Safety Plan by calling for legislation cracking down on property crime, with proposals including new penalties, increasing enforcement tools to “bolster existing law,” eliminating the sunset date for the organized retail crime statute, and increasing existing penalties.
The plan is part of Newsom’s efforts to clean up the Golden State, having directed cities and state agencies last month to take urgent action against people sleeping in public spaces, with California officials clearing away a homeless encampment at Dockweiler State Beach Thursday.

9 hour layoff in LAX left ample opportunity to take a Lyft out to playa vista library Metro Bike station and then ride along Ballona creek to the ocean and down to Manhattan Beach and back up to Dockweiler beach and then waited a long time for a Lyft back up. Metro Bike is a good bike share. Reasonably priced $1.75 per half hour. Needs some stations farther south than Dockweiler and a whole bunch at the airport somehow. @bikemetro https://www.instagram.com/p/CmVWTsErq-I/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hey TCB, where is our spin-off just about Ags, Aubrey, Cliff (hahaha he's not dead), Rita, Sybilus, and Riley attempting to accomplish absolutely any governing while having to function as a cohesive group? Hell I'd pay to watch that crew simply go over the minutes from the previous meeting.
(Thanks to @most-certainly-not-lennard for the typo correction lol)
