> Drop the blade
You- are you serious?!
Sigh... you drop the blade on the floor and it clangs as it hits the concrete. The monster eyes the blade. Considering.
You step towards him and sit opposite the Monster. Unarmed.
<Renee Walker> If things turn to the worst then we have the blade behind us. I doubt that he'll do anything, though.
At least. I can assure you, there's no reasoning with him. He's a monster.
Just make sure to not forget it.

> Can we talk? Without me dropping the knife?
"No." It says and I am inclined to agree. Do not drop the blade.
<Renee Walker> Or just drop it.
<Renee Walker> You decide what happens. But I'm not too sure we should keep the blade. At least... for the moment.
She really doesn't know what she's saying.
<Renee Walker> I do. Maybe you're the one who doesn't know what they're saying.
<Renee Walker> Maybe we can descalate if we drop the blade. Talk to him.
Don't give up now, you're nearly there.

> Tighten your grip
Your hand wraps around the blade and you hold onto it tighter. You're still somewhat listening, it seems.
The monster eyes your blade. It's lips part and a laugh comes from it.
"Are you scared of me?" it asks, voice still stone cold.
Your body shifts as you eye her, hand still tight around the blade.
"I'm here for 'a reason'. Aren't I? And that knife is your only weapon. Not hiding anything else in those pockets are you?" it speaks. His gaze lifts to meet yours.
"Well? Come on then. Come close enough to use it," he finishes. It's quiet, then he adds, "or you can just drop it."
<Renee Walker> I don't like that first plan much. We should see what he thinks he's down here for. Gain more knowledge.
Let me tell you, dropping it is not the best plan. She's unarmed right now. If you hesitate for too long then it will be too late.
Finish this.

> I don't know what I'm going to do yet.
It doesn't respond.
<Renee Walker> Good. We can talk to him, see if... whoever this is is really telling us the truth about this.
There is no need to talk with it. Don't listen to that voice, it knows nothing.
"How about you drop the blade and I consider it," The Monster drawls.
I feel like I shouldn't have to say why dropping the blade is a bad idea. Don't you dare drop it.
<Renee Walker> Let's just talk to them and see what's going on, yeah?

> I was sent to kill you.
Well- don't tell it that!
Great. Now you've given away the only element we had - surprise.
"Suppose you really weren't kidding about killing me," The Monster says as he sits there, eyeing the knife.

> Take the blade
You take the blade from the table. It'd be quite difficult to slay the Monster otherwise.
You enter the basement, the door creaking open, and it reveals a set if stairs faintly illuminated by the room above. Some kind of light shines from the bottom.
The air feels damp and heavy. If the Monster really lives here then slaying him is probably doing it a favour.
There's no noise from below as you descend the steps. As you round the corner, you see it.
Sat on the floor of the basement is a male with blonde hair and hazel eyes with pale skin. Blafk wristbands extend past his elbow and beneath his shirt.
<Renee Walker> Could he really be a monster?
Don't be fooled.

> Did you say he?
Ah, did I? Well that's no matter. Slip of the tongue.
The Runner enters the cabin.
The interior of the cabin is bare. The air is stale and cold with the floors and walls being covered in a layer of dust.
The only thing of note is a table in the corner of the room and a dagger upon the table.
That dagger is your implement. You'll need to take it to do this right.

To my readers:
If your comment is long and rambling and full of quotes you enjoyed, I will love it.
If your comment is full of story related questions, I will love it.
If your comment is a single sentence, I will love it.
If your comment is a single emoji, or a string of them, I will love it.
If you comment, I will love it. It's that simple.

> Fine, fine, whatever, if it gets you to shut up I'll go.
Thank you.
Just one more thing, before you go on. A word of warning, if you will.
He will lie. It will cheat. It will do anything to get you off your mark and to get you to free it, let it out into the world to cause havoc and hurt people.
Don't listen to a word it says. Don't even think of trusting it.
Let your guard down for a moment and you're gone.
<Renee Walker> Are we really going to do this? Slaying something called bad if we don't know what's led them to that point. It might have been they didn't have a choice but to be this way.
Don't listen to that little voice. She doesn't know what she's talking about.

> 'I think we should get into what you mean by a 'monster'.'
No. No, we are not going to get into how it is a monster.
It is a monster and it is dangerous.
Just leave it at that. It is all you will need to do this correctly. It is the only piece of information you will need to know.

>'What do you mean by a monster?'
It is as simple as what I have said. A monster. There is a monster in that cabin and you will be the one to slay it.
There is no need to get into what a monster could be. What they might look like.
A monster is a monster is a monster. And a monster needs to be slain.
The less you know of what this monster could be, the better...

BTW i see these posts all the time like "ohhh i dont know what to comment on fics.." and every response is "keysmashes! or hearts!! anything works :3" and thats GREAT!! thats helpful!!
but: consider. if u genuinely like analyzing writing.. do u know ur just allowed to go through and quote your favorite parts and ramble abt what they mean to u and the author will LOSE IT WITH HYPE?
genuinely. i felt SO WEIRD the first time i did it.. but like. holy shit authors love it. its crack for authors. the first time i did it, it was on a fic that hadnt updated in half a year, give or take, and the author made 3 updates that month BECAUSE OF MY COMMENT.
LIKE. as an author every comment is INCREDIBLE!!! but also, dont feel like your comment has to be short or otherwise ur invasive or smth!! authors ADORE long comments more than ANYTHING.

in 2025 let’s bring back being enthusiastic on ao3. leave a comment on every chapter. leave kudos and, if necessary, leave “double kudos” in the comments. tags and notes on bookmarks. the whole nine yards. let’s show fanfic authors how much we love them.
