Hoo Boys x Reader Headcanons
You Leave Camp After Summer Ends
Percy Jackson would be very upset. He would definitely want to go with you. He would try to say that it was too dangerous for you to be on your own, despite knowing that you could absolutely handle yourself. He would insist that he needed to be there with you. He didn't want you to be caught off guard. He had to protect you. But really he just knew that he would fall apart without you for so long. He might even offer to transfer to your school just to mess something up there so bad that no one could go to school there, and you could come back to camp. He'd cry when you left. Percy would send you an Iris Message every chance he got. He wouldn't even look at another person. You're the only one for him.
Jason Grace wouldn't be happy, but he would understand that this was something you had to do. He was raised under incredibly strict rules. He's already used to being away from you for periods of time because he has to travel between camp half blood and camp Jupiter so often. But this is going to be a much more permanent thing. He stays strong in front of you, but once your gone, he feels hopeless. He doesn't want to be apart from you ever, especially not for ten months. He would fly down to visit you, even if taking you out to lunch during the school day is all either of you have time for. He'd make sure to check in on you every single day. He'd ask you about your day in excruciating detail. He's devoted to you. He would wait an eternity to be with you.
Leo Valdez would absolutely be upset. He found someone who would never leave him, and suddenly they're going to be gone for ten months. He'd beg you to take him with you. Even if you said no, he would take Festus and fly to wherever you are, desperate not to lose you. And he would be so sure not to inconvenience you. He has slept in the sewers and he would do it for the rest of his life if it meant he could be with the one he loves. He'd build you a car or a plane so you could come back to camp whenever you wanted. Leo could make a tracking device so if you ever needed him, he could be there in an instant. Anything to keep you as his.
Frank Zhang would be more focused on making sure you were okay. He would ask you if you needed him to help you move back to your hometown, no matter how far away it was. He'd buy you anything you needed. He'd always reassure you that if you needed help with any school work, he'd be there in a heartbeat. He'd talk to you about your day every chance he got. He would want to know about all of your friends and all of the people you disliked. Frank would definitely get lonely without you, but he would push through. He'd visit you any time you asked, but he would always be worried he was encroaching on a different part of your life that wasn't in his. He'd still be very glad that you wanted him there. As long as you were okay and happy, everything would be fine.

friends with benefits with leo valdez
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: leo valdez x gn!reader
tags: suggestive / implied smut, best friends to lovers, awkward leo & reader, angst to fluff, happy ending, wholesome fluff
Tumblr media
you were more than a friend for leo ever since the two of you first hooked up
but he felt like he had to keep his feelings for you to himself and play the part of the guy who you'll eventually mess around with and nothing more
after all, you had asked him after your first time together how he felt about you
"this doesn't mean anything, right? we're still just friends… with some added benefits now!"
leo could've sworn that he heard uncertainty in your voice, as if you were scared of his answer
he wasn't sure what you wanted to hear, if he should confess that he was head over heels for you or if he should pretend like he didn't care about you
he chose the latter, which caused those occasional hookups between you two to happen for more often since then
every time they happened, leo tried to keep you around afterwards; suggesting he cooks you something, that you two take a shower together or that you just talk a little
but no matter what he suggested, you always ran off afterwards
the only times leo got to be with you was when you were in his bed, but despite how close you were to him in that moment, you felt further away than ever before…
your relationship started to become less of a friendship and instead focused more on the benefits
and while leo certainly enjoyed those benefits, he just couldn't help but long for more
he'd do anything to go back to the way things were before, to have you back as a friend, not just someone to hook up with
eventually, he couldn't take it anymore
as you were collecting your clothes again after a session with leo, he gently grabbed your wrist and stopped you for a moment
"can you stay a little longer today? you always run off afterwards and i'd just like to be with you for a few more minutes…"
leo had this pained expression on his face and seeing him like this was breaking your heart
"i can't… i just… really need to…" but you couldn't come up with a good excuse
"you've been like this for weeks now. please, i want my best friend back…" leo's grip on your hand tightened and he slowly pulled you towards him
"we're not friends anymore…" you mumbled softly, not even thinking clearly as you said those words
"what's that supposed to mean?" leo was clearly hurt by your words, his brows narrowing as he looked at you. "am i just the guy you fuck now? why? why can't i be your friend anymore!?"
"because i love you, you idiot–!!" you snapped at leo and pulled your hand away. "but you don't see me like that…"
"you… love me?" leo still had to process what you just said.
"…i do. i said it, are you happy now? can i go now?" you couldn't stand being in the same room as him anymore. you knew you'd surely cry if you had to say another word or look at him again
"no…" leo still seemed to be in a trance-like state, slowly shaking his head. "no, you can't go. you expect me to just let you leave now?"
you were close to crying now, lowering your head and just trying to keep it together, as you pleaded with a shaky voice
"p-please… just let me–"
but before you could finish your sentence, leo had wrapped his arms around you, pulling you into a tight hug
"i've been in love with you for months! i thought if i told you, i'd ruin everything we had. but to think that you felt the same way all this time…"
leo quietly sobbed against your body, before beginning to laugh through his tears
he felt relieved. all this time, he thought his feelings were unrequited. but he was wrong. thank gods, he was wrong!
"you love me too…?" you couldn't hold back your tears either, smiling as you wrapped your arms around leo as well, as he nodded quietly
"i've always loved you…"

Note
I saw you were taking ‘Leo x reader’ requests so I thought I’d throw some ideas out there!!! :D (they’re random ideas I’ve been writing in my notes app so sorry they’re not too planned and specific…)
1.) (rivals-to-lovers) Fighting over music on the Argo II with him. Either over aux or they’re neighbors on the ship and he plays his music loud so reader does the same to drown it out… and then it turns into a little petty loud music battle.
2.) (???-to-lovers) Reader is cold so they go to his room for an extra blanket because he’s a human furnace so chances are he sleeps without one. He doesn’t have any but offers to cuddle with them. Others find out and snap a photo in the morning.
3.) Reader spends money on him (paying for food, buying something he was looking at, etc.) and Leo starts crying because he hasn’t had someone do that for him since his mom. With a fluff ending
4.) Like number 3 but with a surprise brithday party, maybe a confession at the end or maybe it’s already an established relationship?
5.) (friends-to-lovers) Percy and Leo are joking about who is more charming/attractive and the reader picks Leo. One of the others is like “Percy obviously, he’s everyone’s type, literally almost everyone has had a crush on him or found him attractive at first”. And the reader is like “Speak for yourself.” Everyone just looks over at them, even Leo is shocked lol. Maybe he gets flirty with them after and teases about it.
6.) Same as 6 but it’s some other camper making fun of him and the reader stands up for him. Maybe they fake date or something?
7.) Leo and reader are on counsler duty helping younger campers for arts and crafts. Reader makes him a friendship bracelet and he wears it all the time.
I know there’s a lot, but I just wanted to throw stuff out there for if you’re ever in a writing block, you don’t have to reply to this either any of the requests if they aren’t something you’re interested in! I just love your work (sersiouly your writing is so good omg) so I thought I’d brain dump ideas!!!

warnings: one sexual reference
pairing: leo valdez x fem! reader
Tumblr media
right side, left side, back, stomach, sitting up. no matter how you slept it was still insanely freezing in your cabin. you’re three blankets were not enough to radiate warmth through your body. you lie awake for gods know how long, staring at the ceiling, then back at the clock, a repeating cycle between the two. you take another look at the clock: 1:58 it reads
great, so you’ve been awake almost the whole night and now it’s yesterdays tomorrow. an idea, an idea, you scan your brain for a genius idea that will help you sleep the rest of the night. would another blanket do? no it won’t because five minutes after you’re still cold. turn up the heat? then it will be too hot and there’s a possibility your siblings will complain. you’re left with only one option: get a fourth blanket. you’ve run out of blankets, your three currently being used, however you know the perfect boy who would be glad to give you one of his, and it’s your human furnace of a best friend leo valdez
he had told you many times that he sleeps with only one singular blanket since he tends to overheat with any more than that amount. he had said however that if you ever needed an extra he would be happy to give up his one for the sake of your happiness
you remove the three blankets from your body, standing up and unfortunately embracing the cold of your cabin. you slide your slippers on and throw one of leo’s sweatshirts on- another thing he had offered to you one night at a campfire, you recall it almost vividly, and the faint scent of fire still lingers on it
you had began to make your way to cabin nine, the cold air of night almost worse than your cabin, but nonetheless you power through it. once arrived at your much anticipated destination you open the door slowly, the warmth of the cabin warming you up instantly; you don’t know what you would’ve done if leo wasn’t a child of hephaestus
you make your way to his bed just fine, having spent many mornings taking this path to wake him for breakfast. you stand on the side, watching him sleep so peacefully, you hated to wake him from his sleep, he never got much of it. perhaps it was creepy to be staring as he slept, your worries got the best of you though, you felt terrible waking up for a problem of your own
“perverted much?”
you swore you saw the underworld for a moment, a hand flies to your chest and you breathe heavily. you watch as leo sits up in his bed
“oh my gods” you take a large breath “I’m sorry, I don’t- jeez- uhm, could I use your blanket? It’s freezing in my cabin”
the moment the words fall from your mouth you realize he has no blanket. a frown forms on your lips almost instantly
“I threw my blanket in the closet for the summer, haven’t taken it out yet” there’s a long pause before he speaks again “you could sleep with me though?”
sleep with leo? only your fantasies were privileged enough to be granted that honor. just sleeping right? this can’t be that bad. just go to sleep, that’s it
you crush and best friend leo valdez is asking you to sleep with him? this can’t be right
“are you sure?” you ask
“of course” he moves over to make room for you to lay, you gladly do so, eager to get warm
It’s awkward for a moment. side by side you feel his warmth through his shirt, was there any way he could just simply give it to you? probably not, you’re only option was to get any closer if that was possible, you push away this thought though, he was your best friend not your boyfriend
for a while this was how it went, you assume he fell asleep shortly after you joined him. was it the heat? your sleepiness? were you possessed? you’re unsure how it happened but you find yourself cozying up to leo, a position much to couple-y for best friends. soon enough a warm arm is wrapped around your waist, sending you into a deep sleep
you would say this was the best night of your life. the many campers taking photos in the morning would agree

(Part 1) Part 2 - You Used to Avoid Me Too (Percy Jackson x Fem!Reader, Leo Valdez x Fem!Reader)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: in which y/n finds clarity in her time away from percy.
warnings: cursing, inappropriate humor, mention of the dead, toxic relationship, etc
genre: sadness turned into happiness ig???
word count: 912
-> heroes of olympus masterlist
✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒
y/n walked out of percy's cabin, not exactly sure what she was feeling. she was sad, but she was angry, but was she finally in a state of clarity? who knew? she looked around a couple of times, hoping no one heard the ruckus that had just occurred. tears fell from her eyes. she saw a shadowy figure stare at her for a brief minute before it disappeared.
✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒
"y/n! it's time for breakfast!" one of her cabinmates yelled.
"coming!" y/n yelled back, hoping that the cold water had washed away the redness in her eyes.
she began walking to the pavilion, but felt a strong urge to turn around when she saw him.
him with the dark hair and bright eyes walking happily to breakfast as if he hadn't destroyed whatever hope she had in him the night before.
y/n grabbed her breakfast and began walking down to her table, unfortunately having to pass percy on her way there.
"i heard so much noise from percy's cabin yesterday." one kid said.
"my boy got it on last night!" the other kid exclaimed, the table bursting out in laughter.
perfect timing y/n thought as she walked by, suddenly not feeling hungry anymore. she took the apple and walked out of the pavilion and to the lake.
✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒
you're not annabeth. you're not her.
those six words replayed in y/n's mind as tears began to fall from her eyes. why would someone even say such a thing?
she felt someone come sit beside her. not wanting to show her tear stained face, she quickly wiped her cheeks and put on a smile.
"i like your smile." the person said.
y/n turned to see leo. a wave of shock passed through her body, but she didn't show it.
"thank you." she smiled.
"but it doesn't hide your tomato eyes." he laughed.
y/n chuckled too.
"what're you doing out here?" he asked.
"just sitting. looking at the view." she responded.
"with a side of crying?"
"maybe."
"i heard you guys last night."
oh great y/n thought.
"we did not 'get it on-'" she started.
"i know. you guys were fighting. pretty badly, i'll add. i heard the glass and the yelling. i saw-"
y/n thought back to yesterday night and remembered there was some shadow walking around.
"you saw me." she sighed. "fuck."
"ing? i thought that's what didn't happen." he laughed.
"haha, very funny." she rolled her eyes.
"i heard the things he said." he started. "i don't think he's right."
"but isn't he? i wasn't what he was looking for and i was stupid enough to think i was."
"you can't change yourself to be what he misses. your job isn't to be the past, it's to be the present and the future."
"i don't even know. i'm so upset. he didn't even love me in the first place and for some reason, i feel like that's so much worse than falling out of love with me. i would've known he cared at one point. but now, i know he never ever did." she chuckled. it made more sense aloud. "and, i hope this doesn't sound mean, but why do you care? you used to avoid me too."
"yeah i did, but that didn't mean i wanted to." he answered.
"explain?"
"percy's my bro, so first, i just stayed away because he wanted me to. i never knew the real reason until he started saying a bunch of weird shit."
"like what?"
"stupid shit. like, 'y/n's hair is different' or 'y/n got a question wrong in math.' it was like he was subtly comparing you to annabeth, while trying to not completely give himself away. i lost respect for him first when he said you were only good during the nighttime, if you know what i mean. i think i lost a more respect for him when he said, and i quote, 'do you guys ever pretend someone is someone else? but then they're not like that person and it gets you pissed off?'"
y/n knew her tears were falling down her face again.
"then i was like, fuck this, i need to ask if y/n's alright. if he's saying all this, you must've been like a victim."
"mhm." she nodded. "i don't even know what i did wrong."
y/n buried her face into her hands as breathing became difficult.
"wait, hey-don't cry!" he panicked. "i mean, percy's stupid anyways. well i know i'm stupid, but he's like really stupid-" he started, trying to wipe away y/n's tears with his hands. "you didn't hear this from me, but he's obsessed with someone who's six feet under, maybe seven, she was kinda tall. it's like necrophilic at this point-"
y/n chuckled at that.
"if anything, he can take the gravestone and shove it up his ass." he smiled.
y/n gave him a weak smile as her tears slowly reduced.
"i'll see you around camp." leo said, getting up and reaching a hand out for her.
she took it, getting up.
"see you around leo." she smiled.
as they both went their seperate ways, y/n just couldn't stop smiling. she looked around as she walked back to the main area of the camp. she saw percy, sword fighting with jason. as she walked by, she locked eyes with percy.
"y/n!" he yelled "can we talk? please?"
"i would love to but i think you've got a gravestone shoved up your ass!" she yelled back.
✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒✧.⭒

Could it be possible if you could like, make a leo x m!reader whoes a child of kronos (treated like an outcast bc of his dad) who also has mutism???
(🧃🐛)
Leo Valdez x M!ChildOfKronos!Reader
(Thank you for the M!reader suggestion)
Being a son of Kronos wasn’t easy in Camp HalfBlood.
After the war, everyone always made sure to stay away from you, sometimes you’d even get jokes about your godly parent, you tried to ask for help a few times… but even Mr. D and Chiron were pretty against your existence.
You didn’t want to be seen as a monster, so you never really used your powers.
But they did see you as that anyways, not like you ever had the chance to speak to them and explain it yourself.
Not that it mattered.
You were sitting alone during lunch, since you had no siblings around. And you were fine with it, until someone sat in front of you.
You drifted your gaze towards whoever was sitting there (which wasn’t even allowed, by the way), and you were surprised by finding a curly haired boy in front of you. His chin was resting on his hand and a smirk was on his face.
“Hey there” he smiles at you “sitting all by yourself, handsome?”
‘As I should’ you thought to yourself, but you simply kept on eating, hoping he would go away.
But he didn’t. He just stayed there.
He was so gonna get in trouble.
“You’re cute, why are you so quiet?”
You blushes as you almost chocked on your food. Did he just say you were cute?
He laughed, and you thought that was cute too. That wasn’t a prank, right? That would be just cruel.
He hummed to himself “you could at least answer me…” he whines.
But you try to make him understand that you couldn’t and when he did get it, he started apologising profusely.
“Uff, so you weren’t rejecting me? Do I have a chance?”
You looked at him suspiciously, why would he want to have one in the first place?
“Pretty please?”
You looked around to find that no one else was looking at you, so you nodded shyly.
You spent the next few days with Leo and you were surprised by how empathetic he could be sometimes, as well as mechanical and objective.
For the first time in your life, you didn’t feel judged for your godly parent, and you were seen as you.
However, lately these days, you noticed how Leo was getting increasingly picked on as he spent more time with you, even by his friends.
They were trying to get him away from you and they wouldn’t dare to get closer if it meant being close to you.
That’s why you decided to distance yourself.
He was sweet, and cute, and caring… he didn’t deserve being treated like that just because of you.
So now, when Leo would get near you, you’d look away and ignore him.
Oh, but you should have known he was going to get annoying.
He was always around you, blathering stupid things such as ‘winning your heart back’.
It had to be fake… right?
So why were you crying?
Why was he hugging you tightly, promising to never let you get away like that again?
Why did he care so much?
Why did you care?
But you hugged him back.
“I can’t let the prettiest boy get away from me now, can’t I?” you snorted and he smiled, as it was his mission to make you laugh.
“I don’t care about what anyone else says, you’re… i think you’re great, way more than great. Let’s get to know each other, ok?”
You nodded and he felt accomplished, happy. He wanted to know you as you were, and he was liking it more than he thought he could. Just as you were.

Pairing(s): Leo Valdez x Reader
Tumblr media
•────•°•❀•°•───── ʙʀᴏᴋᴇɴ ─────•°•☁︎•°•────•
Aw fuck.
Leo may or may not have royally messed up. Like a ton.
He didn't even know how it happened, because one moment he's walking through Camp Halfblood with you, his best friend in the entire world, and the next, he overhears some bastards talking shit about you and he just...snaps.
"Ugh who'd you get on your team for capture? Can't believe Mr. D thought it would be a good idea to split up the cabins and 'mix and match'"
"Yeah it's honestly super dumb- I'm not complaining though, I've got Annabeth."
"You're just lucky- I got Y/N of all people- literally the most annoying person on camp- and honestly the most useless too."
At at the sound of that, Leo whipped his head to you, just in time to see your eyes wide, on the brink of brimming with tears before looking forwards, attempting to pretend you didn't hear anything.
But you had.
And Leo knew.
You were unclaimed, and you mostly kept to yourself until Leo found you tending to Festus while he was away one day- and surprisingly the metal dragon seemed completely at ease around you.
Leo was awestruck, and ever since then, you two had gotten extremely close, the son of Hephaestus even found himself longing to be in your presence whenever he was on quests.
You were quiet, but around him, you opened up more, you were funny, and kind, and you have a quick tongue too, always engaging in light banter with him that never ceased to be entertaining to either of you.
To him, you were perfect- because you were there. His first best friend technically wasn't his in the first place, given that Jason, Piper and Leo himself were all under Hera's unnerving control. Needless to say, the three of them were still close, but Leo couldn't shake the feeling that it wasn't genuine.
Along with the rest of the Argo II members, he felt more like a seventh wheel more than anything (if that was even possible) and deep down, the nagging thought that he was nothing but a burden always lingered.
Around you though, he felt like someone, like he was special - around you, he felt like Leo Valdez.
Maybe that's why he got so mad, he didn't even know he could get so mad- and the next thing he knows, a murderous scowl is painted on his face and he's lunging for the two other campers, fists ablaze.
But you were faster.
You, sweet angel you, saw what was coming the moment his palms tightened into fists, lunging forward to stop him, using your hands to stop him own.
In hindsight, you probably should've remembered his hands were on fire.
But even as pain seared your palms to the point tears where subconsciously running down your face, you swallowed, and stood firm.
"Leo, please." you beg weakly, and in an instant, his flames distinguish, and your blood now paints his first- horror overtaking his face as you stare into his eyes pleadingly. "They're not worth it."
Leo, in his guilt ridden frozen state, can only bring himself to look at you, and yet, he doesn't deserve it, your eyes wide and cheeks stained with tears- he can't believe he had done this to you.
He, of all people, had hurt his angel, his haven, his best friend.
But you didn't waver, when he buried his hands in his eyes, sobbing uncontrollably, you said nothing, engulfing him in your arms and pressing his face into the crook of your neck and he heaved, tears soaking into your shirt.
He was broken, but he knew, even if he didn't deserve it, you would be there to pick up his fragments, piece by piece, with your damaged hands, just so you two could be together again.

please, please, please~ Leo Valdez x Aphrodite reader
A/N: Guess who's back on the writing grind.... ME! Btw get ready for a yapfest just skip it.
Idk if anyone actually wants these cause my silly posts that take me two mintuets to read gets more interactions but whatever. I wanna try and make these look pretty but i dont know how so I'll have research cause it's killing me how ugly how ugly it is. Also I wanna say IM A MINOR I DO NOT WRITE SMUT! Thats just cause i got a smut request but i literally don't feel comfortable writing it or putting it online so sorry yall. Anyway here's your daily dose of Leo content cause he's bad boy supreme.
Warnings~ cringy and brainrot use, swearing
contents~ Leo's a loveable idiot that uses brainrot like his life depends on it.
word count~ 390
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~🤍~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Urm... what the sigma?" Is what your boyfriend said as you walked into bunker 9. You weren't sure what he meant when he said stuff like that but it was embarrassing. Ever since he'd figured out how to make phones that didn't alert monsters of your whereabouts he'd ranked his screen time up to 9 hours and kept saying odd terms.
"What does that meannnnn?" You ask quickly walking into the bunker before anyone could possibly see you, the prettiest and friendliest, child of Aphrodite hanging around bunker nine and in extension Leo. You weren't ashamed of him... no more worried about what would happen if he ended up calling it off. Piper was the only one who knew about this little thing going on because your other half siblings that someone would have to have bad taste and judgement to date him. However, all the sneaking around ended today when Leo expressed how it felt being kept like a secret.
"It means your the alpha skibdi rizzler of my heart." He said putting his little tinkering project down and wrapping his arms around your waist beaming at you with a twinkle in his brown eyes. Normal boyfriends would call their partner darling or baby but you didn't have normal you had Leo. Scrawny, mischievous Leo.
At first, you lean into his arms but then you notice all the oil on him and playfully shove him away as one of his dirty hands come up to cup your cheek. "Hey, watch the money maker, Valdez. If you ruin my outfit I will cry . And your weird terms still make zero sense." You say not being able to help the smile that came across your lips. Gods, he was cute covered in oil and when he was ruining it with his brainrot vocab.
Pouting, Leo moved back and grabbed a rag to clean himself off, he was so ready for today you were half expecting him to burst out singing 'for the first time in forever' like Anna in frozen. "Fine, fine. So... you ready to tell the world your dating the one and only Leo Valdez?" He asked in a cocky tone as he leaned on his workbench trying to hide the childlike excitement that you could tell was brewing under the service.
"mhm, just don't embarrass me mother fucker."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~🤍~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A/N~ Hope you liked this my requets are open and I'm working on getting the ones I got before I had a tiny mental breakdown. (I'm fine just geography.) So read them in and give me anything I could improve on. I think I'll write some to save for if I get like that again or go through writers block.

Leo Valdez x child of Poseidon reader
Percy is your older brother, you came to camp a month after the war with Kronos and in that time you and Percy got really close
so obviously you were devastated when he went missing
you and annabeth are frantically searching for him in between days of on and off crying
One day she goes searching and you see other people with her you run up thinking one might be percy
its not. Three new demigods are standing in front of you
the first is TALL like skyscraper tall with blonde hair and blue eyes
the second a girl with choppy brown hair and changing eyes standing next to…a child?
At first you didn’t see the third person because he was on his knees panting
he looked like he just ran a 5k
he looked up and holy crap
he has curly brown hair that’s soaked from the lake, with the most beautiful brown eyes youve ever seen
you blush and look towards annabeth who looks at you questioningly
“I’m guessing you didn’t find him” you say solemnly “ no, I’m sorry” you nodded and started to walk back to cabin 3
you can’t stop thinking about the boy you saw
on the other side of things when Leo first saw you all his cheesy pock up line evaporated
he was at a lost for words as a beautiful girl with h/c hair and e/c eyes stared down at him
her face looked like she’d been crying and he had the urge to comfort her but he didn’t even know her name
he turned to annabeth and said “ who was that” she answered saying “ that’s y/n, Percy’s little sister, she’s been a mess since he disappeared
fast forward to after the tour and the claiming to the camp fire
you see the boy from before sitting with Hephaestus cabin so he must have gotten claimed
he looks up at you and you look away
when you look back he is walking towards you
he stops and says “ hi I’m Leo, but you can call me Super Sozed McShizzle”
that made you laugh which was the first time you had laughed in months
The rest goes as follows
“I’m y/n”
“ I couldn’t help but notice that you look a little sad, wanna talk about it”
”not really” you say getting up
you walk back towards your cabin
you didn’t mean to be rude but you felt like you were gonna cry again and you didn’t want to do that in front of everybody
you get back to your cabin and cry yourself to sleep
the next morning a knock wakes you up
when you answer there’s no one there but a rose is on your doormat along with a note
dear y/n I know your bummed about Percy and a little birds told me you like flowers you I took a wild guess at your favorite. - secret admire
you were stunned that anyone would do something so nice for you but the only thing you could think about was that they were probably still there
as a joke you say “ for reference f/f if my favorite flower”
you smile at the joke you made and go back inside
in truth you did feel a lot better now knowing someone cared
also how did he know you liked flowers?
switch perspective
leo had the grin of a mad man on his face
He gave y/n a rose and learned what her favorite flower was He felt like he was making progress at trying to talk with her
in truth he had no idea if she liked flowers or not he just went with it
ok I’m running out of room I’ll post part 2 on my profile comment anything you want to see

The Curse of Oenone (Leo Valdez xFem!Oc)
A/N: It's sad bitch hours -Danny Words: 1,784 Series' Masterlist Previous Chapter // Next Chapter Listen to: 'Hey Girl' -by Stephen Sanchez
Tumblr media
XXV: You Can't Spell Drama Without A-R-A
"It's my fault," Leo sentences.
"No. No, this is Gaea's fault. It had nothing to do with you." The boy only sinks further on his chair, so Hazel insists. "Leo, listen to me. I won't allow you to take the blame. I couldn't bear that after—after Sammy..."
Nico is shaking from both, anger and sickness. "This is Ara's fault."
In different circumstances, Ara would've jumped at his throat, but this one time, he's absolutely correct.
"I told them to leave," she says hoarsely after all the screaming.
"Like Percy would ever do that," Nico's voice is weak but charged with resentment. "He has to carry you through every quest—"
Ara glares at him. "We came to save your miserable corpse and you almost died right after!"
"Because I had to run after you, you stupid—"
"Ara," Leo's voice sounds so different from his usual upbeat tone that it gets everyone's attention. "What were you thinking?"
Nico continues heatedly. "She tried to jump into Tartarus."
"What?" Piper asks with shock. "No, Ara wouldn't do that, that's insane and she's always telling us—"
Nico laughs dryly. "None of you know her. Annabeth and Percy tried to stop her but those who help Ara always meet tragic endings. Have you told them about Michael?"
Ara stares at him, refusing to react to what he's saying. Nico steps closer to her, his eyes darkening. He speaks in ancient Greek. "Revolting arae."
The girl grasps the neck of his jacket in a fit of rage. "You—!"
"That's enough!" Jason pulls them apart, thunder booming above them threateningly. "Ara, what is he talking about?"
She pushes Jason away. "I have a prophecy. I can tell you about it, but I don't need you to help me with it."
"Ara, that's a serious deal, what if it has to do with ours?" Hazel asks anxiously. "What if it has to do with Percy and Annabeth?"
Her voice quivers. "Please, focus on your quest."
"And how do you expect us to do that?" Leo asks angrily. "There is no way to contact your brother and Annabeth in Tartarus, without them this quest might go stale—and you were going to jump in like it's nothing?"
"Leo, they're not dead," Nico intervenes. "If they were, I could feel it."
"How can you be sure?" Leo demands. "If that pit really led to that place, how could you sense them so far away?"
He's agitated, and Ara knows it's not only because of Percy and Annabeth. He's freaking out thinking that it could've been her if Annabeth hadn't jumped in to save her at the last minute.
"We can't be one hundred percent sure," Hazel says. "But I think Nico is right. Percy and Annabeth are still alive... at least, so far."
"I packed well for the journey, and Annabeth took my bag," Ara looks down at her feet. "They can survive a whole week if we push their luck."
"Gods, Ara," Jason stares at her not believing what he's hearing. "You were going to jump in for real? What were you thinking? I thought we were past hiding things..."
Disappointing Jason almost feels like making her mother cry, which is weird and unexpected, she didn't know she cared this much about his opinion. Her throat tightens and Ara struggles to get the words out.
"Janus and Nemesis are talking to me all the time... Leo told me he'd used the fortune cookie, everything had fallen into place for me to act accordingly."
"Wait, you hear voices?" Frank asks in a curious voice.
"You're delusional," Nico states harshly. "I'm the only one who has been in Tartarus, and that place would've destroyed someone like you the moment you'd stepped into it. You would've had no chance of survival."
"Someone like me," Ara glares at him. "You mean weak?"
Nico's face twists with irritation. "I mean someone like you, Ara." He doesn't elaborate, but she doesn't want him to.
Frank dries his tears and speaks up. "Percy and Annabeth... what are their chances?"
Nico fidgets with the ring on his finger. "Percy is the most powerful demigod I've ever met. No offense to you guys, but it's true. If anybody can survive, he will, especially if he's got Annabeth at his side. They're going to find a way through Tartarus."
"To the Doors of Death, you mean," Jason says. "But you told us it's guarded by Gaea's most powerful forces. How could two demigods possibly—?"
"I don't know. But Percy told me to lead you guys to Epirus, to the mortal side of the doorway. He's planning on meeting us there. If we can survive the House of Hades, fight our way through Gaea's forces, then maybe we can work together with Percy and Annabeth and seal the Doors of Death from both sides."
"And get Percy and Annabeth back safely?" Leo inquires.
"Maybe."
"We can work with maybe," Ara assures them. "We'll get through."
"I don't like it when I have to agree with you," Nico makes a face, "and I don't know how they'll manage it, but Percy and Annabeth will find a way. They'll journey through Tartarus and find the Doors of Death. When they do, we have to be ready."
"Someone has to stay," Janus reminds her. "To close the doors, someone has to stay behind."
"It won't be easy," Hazel points out. "Gaea will throw everything she's got at us to keep us from reaching Epirus."
"What else is new?" Jason mutters.
"We've got no choice," Piper replies. "We have to seal the Doors of Death before we can stop the giants from raising Gaea. Otherwise her armies will never die. And we've got to hurry. The Romans are in New York. Soon, they'll be marching on Camp Half-Blood."
"We've got one month at best," Jason shifts his weight from one foot to the other. "Ephialtes said Gaea would awaken in exactly one month."
Determination ignites Leo's gaze. "We can do it. The Archimedes sphere can upgrade the ship, I'm going to study those ancient scrolls we got. There's got to be all kinds of new weapons I can make. We're going to hit Gaea's armies with a whole new arsenal of hurt. Ara, you can help with that, can't you?"
The way he asks it's like he's saying 'It's the least you can do.' Ara's ashamed of herself for doing everything wrong, so she just nods in a silent reply.
Jason pats Leo's shoulder. "Sounds like a plan, Admiral. You want to set the course?"
"Yeah." The boy turns to the control board. "Festus, raise the sails. We've got some friends to save."
Ara approaches Nico when everyone scatters and lowers her voice. "This isn't over, you pale snitch."
Nico's eyes sparkle like he's almost pleased to be threatened. "Can't wait."
Everyone leaves her and Leo alone. They're all upset, but they know Leo should be the first to show it. Ara walks up to the control board and helps Leo in silence, they've done this so many times both teens know which task is theirs and which one belongs to the other.
Leo speaks, but he doesn't look at her. "I'm going to inspect the statue, maybe there's a weapon hidden in it or something—Athena must've known, but now that Annabeth's missing... we'll have to do this the hard way."
It's not meant to be a complaint, and it doesn't even sound like one, but she can feel the walls she'd crashed through six months ago slowly building themselves back up. Ara leans both palms on the board to stop them from shaking.
"I've been trying to gather up the courage..." she mutters, eyes fixed on the monitors, "every day since we left New Rome, to tell you about my prophecy. It's gotten worse."
Both teens are staring at their hands, but they can read each other just by the sound of their voices and the fluidity of their movements.
"Aphrodite came to me in a dream before we landed on New Rome, and so many things happened since then... I never found a good moment to tell you."
"You think I'm angry about that?" He frowns. "What's hurting it's that you're not sorry for almost throwing yourself into Tartarus."
Ara's hands feel unbearably cold. "I can't be sorry when the alternative scares me more."
Leo tilts her face, forcing her to look at him. "Nemesis said you need more than a fortune cookie to fix your problem—what does she know that I don't?"
Ara stares at him. "She knows about my prophecy."
Tumblr media
"What does all of that mean?" He asks after hearing the lines.
Ara makes a face. "Percy's sword belonged to Hercules before it belonged to him. I prayed every night to get one as cool as his..." She pulls the compass out of her pocket and stares at it. "It feels so obvious now, how they made me believe it was my idea..."
"But that means you were fated to be a daughter of Olympus!" Leo submits kindly. "You worried it was above your skills, but it was always meant to be you."
"But the last lines," Ara shivers when she thinks about it. "By tearing earth into pieces..."
He tries to sound cheerful. "Maybe you'll blow Gaea up!"
"Or I could end the world," Ara squeezes the compass in her hand. "The truth is I no longer know what my prophecy is trying to tell me."
Leo sighs heavily. "When I opened that cookie..."
"You had no choice," Ara replies. "Nemesis told me Percy and Annabeth were the real sacrifices, I value them more than I value myself. When Janus came, I chose duty and sacrificed my family."
Leo's hand holds hers as if trying to will her empath touch to spit her anguish out to him. "You will have cause to reconsider your choices soon," he quotes, "that was the paper Nemesis gave you, right? This is the cause."
She nods. "And I'm reconsidering many things."
"But my sacrifice would've been you," Leo insists, almost pouting. "Why isn't the way I love you enough?"
Ara thinks about their curse. "We have unfinished business. Nemesis can't mess with us if the fates don't want her to."
His eyes soften. "I don't hate that thought."
Ara sighs. "You should know... something Hercules told me." Leo's fingers intertwine with hers. "He said I'd lose near the end. But he also said that I have room to become better in the meantime, even without the cape and Almighty, and that's what I'm aiming for."
Ara doesn't realize she's praying, but almost instantly, her body glows white as snow. Her eyes, for only a split second, are just like Annabeth and Lily's. This goddess is not fond of Ara, but she wants her to set things right. If she doesn't save her friends, there will be no mercy.
Leo scans her appearance curiously. "Who is that?"
"Hercules also said..." she continues, staring at her skin in surprise. "That the gods think I won't live long. Maybe I won't, but I'll go big under my terms... I think Athena likes that idea."

posting this here before ao3 because i just realized i can do whatever i want.
Learn Your Blades
Summary: A brief character study as to why Esperanza Valdez keeps on letting Hera in despite every other sign not to.
.x.
Hera comes to Esperanza with an offer she can’t refuse, a knife and a prophecy. She accepts without a second thought and hates herself for it. She’d do anything for Leo to be safe, but Esperanza hadn’t realized how far she’d go with this.
Hera places Leo in a fireplace and Esperanza screams and sobs and tells her that she’ll never come back to Esperanza’s house. The next day, Leo walks straight into the fireplace and walks out unharmed. She cries for an hour and lets Hera back in again. If she can make Leo immune to death itself then Esperanza would cry all her tears if it meant her son was safe.
To storm or fire, the world must fall. The words echo in Esperanza’s ears as she tries to get people to take her seriously, tries to build something outside the ranch and the dirt that the horses kick as they run. They echo as she fusses over Leo’s clothes and his drawings, echo as she works with grease and gears and tries not to scream.
Leo couldn’t die, but she imagines the other mother of the poor child that’d die in her son’s place and her heart aches. She’d never wish that on anyone, but Esperanza couldn’t live with it happening to her son.
So she lets Hera in, she lets her in after the snake, she lets her in after the knives. She lets her in and Esperanza never understands why.
Hera takes a liking to Esperanza or so she thinks when she finds five hundred dollars just enough to make up this month’s rent on her table wrapped in a peacock feather. She pays the rent and takes Leo out for ice cream.
“He must learn his blades early,” Hera says, and Esperanza listens. “He must learn to move on from suffering, he must learn to control his fire lest he burn himself out. If you want your son to live, dear thing, you must teach him how to be a Valdez.”
So she does. Esperanza teaches him how to build machines, gives him a secret language if he’s ever taken prisoner, and if she teaches him how to break out of locked rooms and how to open windows well that was her prerogative. Esperanza teaches him jokes that her grandfather told, teaches him how to ride a horse, although he’s horrible at it, teaches him how to lie to the world at large but never to her.
Esperanza teaches Leo all that Hera tells her and more. It’s like having a mother to guide her through her raising of Leo. Not that her mother wasn’t a mother, but Ximena Valdez would’ve not encouraged anything Esperanza was doing. To her mother, Esperanza had to return to the farm, take care of the books and wait for her mother to die with the patience of a saint waiting on her hand and foot. She thought Esperanza’s dreams were just dreams and that they should’ve given Leo away the moment he was born.
Leo did not fit in the perfect future everyone had envisioned for Esperanza, she wasn’t even sure he fit in Hephaestus’s future, but Leo fit in Hera’s future and that was enough for her to keep opening the door for her.

Tumblr media
You’ve settled into camp nicely over the last few weeks, and you don’t think you’ve ever been happier. You’ve been slowly getting less shocked when people are nice to you, when other people there want you to spar with them or sit with them at meals. A lot of kids from Aphrodite cabin have even come to you for makeup and fashion tips, raving about how obsessed they are with your whole look. You’ve been happy to introduce them to goth and alt fashion (with the appropriate music recommendations to go along with it, of course), and surprisingly, they’ve been happy to listen. You keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, waiting for something bad to happen, but it just… doesn’t. You’re starting to suspect that maybe things here aren’t too good to be true, maybe they’re just… good.
The horizon is clear for the first time in your life. Literally. With the weather magic surrounding the camp, there’s not a sunrise or sunset you’ve missed since you came here. Your favorite part of camp is how much time you get to spend with Leo, and his friends who are now your friends, too. Sneaking past the cleaning harpies to a bunker in the woods is a little harder than sneaking down a hall, but you’re both making it work. You’ve had to incorporate more orange t shirts and light weight clothes into your daily style, but even though you were sure you’d hate it, you don’t mind too much. Like so many other aspects about living at camp, it’s nicer in practice than you initially thought it would be. A lot nicer. You’re reluctant to admit it, but you actually love it here.
However, in spite of all the newly positive things happening in your life, there’s something that’s been bothering you, worming around in the back of your mind. Your memories are still gone, and there’s still a box under your bed taped shut, claiming to contain the bad ones. It warns you not to open it, and if it wasn’t written in your own handwriting, you’re sure your curiosity would have gotten the better of you by now. But even a warning from your past self can’t keep it at bay forever. You’re starting to wonder. You’re so happy now, happier than you’ve ever been, so what sitting inside that box could possibly be bad enough to ruin that? You’re not one to think in such a naive way, but after putting it off for as long as you can, your curiosity and impulsivity finally get the better of you.
As you carefully open the box, taking care not to rip it, you sit on the floor next to your bed. The rest of your cabin is empty as usual, so you don’t mind laying out the contents on the floor as you pick through it. Your hand shakes as you pull out memorabilia one by one, laying them around you to assess. There’s some drawings, a few pictures, and a letter addressed to you. It’s only when you take each item out that you’re suddenly overwhelmed with the deepest sadness and heartache you’ve ever experienced. All of your memories, everything in your past that you’ve been running from comes back to you. Your chest and arms and stomach all hurt with the pain coursing through you. Your breathing is heavy and out of control as you open the letter addressed to you. Tears blur your vision before falling down onto the worn paper.
“Hey, are- hey…” You hear Leo’s voice behind you change, suddenly flooded with concern once he hears you crying. Somewhere in the back of your mind, you remember that you had plans to meet up with him before sword fighting. You suppose you must have lost track of time. You don’t say anything, but you don’t need to yet. He runs right over to you, sitting next to you on the floor, and pulls you into his arms without a second thought. Sobs wrack through your body as he holds you close. Your hands shake, still clutching the letter, now adorned with little tear stains along the corner.
“Hey, it’s okay… it’s okay…” He says, rocking you in his arms and rubbing your back. “It’s okay, I got you.”
After a while, your sobs turn into sniffles, your breathing levels out, your heart ache eases. He holds you tight while you cry, and he’s so warm and reassuring. Once you feel a little better, you hand him the letter. Leo skims through it, his eyes darting over the flowy red handwriting. It’s from Eros, introducing himself as your real dad. Most of it’s pretty standard, he explains about being a demigod, and how that’s been the reason behind most of the hard things you’ve gone through. He tells you about the powers children of Eros usually have - including a heads up about the wings. After that, he tells you he knows about all the hardships you’ve experienced because of not knowing you’re a demigod.
I’ve sent this letter along with a magic box from Hermes. Anything you place within this box, you’ll forget about until you take it out again. I hope this can help you transition smoothly into life at camp, and make things a little easier for you until someone from camp half blood comes to pick you up.
That’s pretty much it, the rest is just Eros waxing poetic about love and sex. Leo folds up the letter, tucking it back in the envelope, and continuing to rub your back.
“It’s okay, it’s okay.” He presses a kiss to your hairline, and it’s quiet for a moment.
“You don’t have to deal with this all at once, you know. You can start with something small, take your time with it.”
You let out a shuddering sigh, and he can tell you’re starting to calm down.
“And you don’t have to be ready right now. Do you want to put some of this back?” His words sink in, and you nod, not trusting yourself to talk yet. “Yeah? Okay, let’s put this stuff back.”
Your hands shake as you tuck everything back in the box, just like you found it. With each item that goes back inside, you can feel yourself forgetting more and more. The pain subsides as you stare into space, your mind going blank for a moment as memories fall away beneath you. You look at the letter from your dad. He doesn’t mention anything that happened to you, he doesn’t go into detail about any of that. Leo’s words echo in your mind.
You can start with something small.
You stand up on shaky legs, and tuck the letter under your pillow. Fatigue wracks through your body, and you feel like the fragile calmness after the wake of a hurricane. You look at the corner of the envelope, and take a deep, shaky breath. In that moment, you give yourself permission to only think about it, to only read it again when you feel like you’re ready. Leo walks up behind you, and rests his hand on your waist.
“You okay?” His voice is soft when he asks, and you take a moment to consider.
“Yeah.” You state, breaking the silence. “I am.”
It’s the first time in a long time that you’ve been able to say that truthfully.
“Are you ready to go kick Will’s ass at archery practice?” He asks with a smile, getting a chuckle out of you. He brushes his thumbs across your cheeks a few times, wiping away the dark makeup streaking down from your eyes. You let out a chuckle.
“Yeah.” You nod. “I’m ready.”
He wraps his arm around you, and you leave your cabin. You walk toward the archery range, and take in a big, deep breath of camp air. It’s naturey and refreshing, and with every breath, you feel a little better. Your mind wanders back to the letter, but as you watch other campers and nature spirits meander around, laughing and joking together as they talk, it really sinks in. You’re safe now. You can take your time with stuff like this now, you can go at your own pace. There’s no rush, not anymore.

i just want everyone to know that this one is @shittygaypornmagazinedotcom 's fault, i just don't know how to say no to my spouse
He stared at the glinting bronze scales of the dragon. Objectively, he knew he wasn't going crazy. But he felt like he was.
A slight figure stood next to the dragon, patting its leg and yelling something up at it. Hazel had her hands over her mouth. She looked close to crying. Reyna looked livid, muttering curses under her breath. The crowd of Roman legionnaires had more or less dispersed, and Lavinia, as curious as ever, stayed behind. She turned to look at Frank, who was still staring at the small person near the dragon, and asked, "So that's the Leo guy who didn't really die?"
He nodded, numb. He was still very much confused. He'd seen his legion smack the living daylights out of Valdez, and his fingers were itching to do the same.
Finally, Leo turned and ran towards them, a grin on his face. A lump of emotions tossed and turned in Frank's chest, somersaulting and spinning. He couldn't name the feelings, but he knew they were there. He didn't know what to do with them.
As soon as Leo neared, Hazel threw herself at him, sobbing. She beat his chest weakly and cursed him. He smiled slightly and hugged her, whispering in her ear. She relented her grip on him, and Leo edged towards Reyna. Frank's fellow praetor didn't hesitate: she aimed a kick right at his crotch. While he yowled in pain, she grabbed him by the ear and started berating him in rapid Spanish.
"You have some nerve to just show up!" she shouted. "We've all been worried sick!"
"Okay, okay, okay!" he squeaked, squirming. She finally let go of him, and he stepped as far away from her as he could. "What is up with you people? I had just as rude a greeting as this back at Camp Half-Blood. I came to say hi, but I've also been sent to tell you something!"
Frank saw the urgent gleam in Leo's eyes as he said this. Whatever it was, it couldn't be good. Perhaps something to do with all the panic and frenzy surrounding the sun god of late? The lump in his chest grew.
Leo made eye contact with him and grinned. Frank felt funny.
"If I come next to you, Zhang, will you beat me up?" Leo posed the question jokingly, but saw the fear in his eyes. Was it because he thought Frank would seriously hurt him? Or maybe ...
Frank remembered Leo mentioning foster homes, many of them, jumping from one to the other in hopes of a home. Many were abusive. Leo hadn't really said this, but it had been implied. Frank could only imagine that this brought back memories of past beatings. As much as he wanted to slap him for the worry of the past months, was he really gonna stoop so low as to hit a boy who's only ever known abuse?
"Nah," Frank replied. "At least, not yet."
The look in the other boy's eyes eased and he skipped over next to Frank. He looked at him seriously and said, "I really do have a lot to tell you. It's been a crazy few months."
Fear gripped Frank suddenly. "Are — are you gonna go away again? We just got you back. We can't lose you again." I can't lose you again, he almost said.
Leo eyed him strangely. "Well, I'm not gonna stay here forever. I'll stay a while, though. I'm tired." He shot a look at Reyna. "Is that okay?"
All of Reyna's anger had evaporated, and she started to look incredibly guilty. "Of course you can," she reassured him hastily. She looked him up and down. "I didn't hurt you too badly, did I?"
Leo recognised the tone in her voice and grinned. "Oh, you've wounded me fatally! How shall I ever recover?" he claimed dramatically. Hazel laughed a little. Lavinia was still noting all the goings-on with a keen eye.
Reyna sighed at his dramatics. "I'm sorry, okay? We — we missed you, and we were really worried. You broke our hearts with that explosion, Valdez. We thought you really were a goner."
Leo rolled his eyes affectionately. "Apology accepted, especially since that's probably the only apology I'll ever get out of you in this lifetime. Who's this one?" he asked, looking at Lavinia.
"That's Lavinia," Hazel said.
"Want some gum?" Lavinia offered. Reyna looked ready to smack her own head repeatedly against a wall.
"Oh, sure," Leo said, taking some. He chewed it, smirking. "I like you."
"I like me, too," Lavinia replied. Leo laughed.
Frank didn't know what was happening to him. This intense ball of emotions was still rolling around inside him. He felt sick, he felt elated, he felt furious, he felt relieved. And he still wanted to punch Valdez.
"You said you have news to share?" Reyna said briskly. "Let's go to the Via Praetoria. We'll discuss everything there."
"Yes ma'am!" Leo said solemnly with a mock-salute. They started walking.
Leo fell back to walk beside Frank, who was still mulling things over. He shot him a grin. "You do want to smack me, don'tcha?"
"I both do and don't," Frank answered honestly. "I don't want to be just some other guy who hit you when you've just come back, but then again, I've lost my head worrying about you, so I feel like you deserve at least an itty-bitty slap."
Leo acknowledged this with a nod. "Then do it."
Frank shook his head. "No, no. I won't."
Leo held out his arm, waiting.
Finally, Frank couldn't help it. He pinched his forearm, just a little bit. Leo winced slightly and then burst out laughing. "Trust you to be the nicest one about it."
Frank didn't know what to say to that. He just smiled, reveling in the knowledge that Leo was back, Leo was alive and here, and walked on. The muddle of feelings only grew, but with Leo by his side, the confusion didn't feel so bad.

Nachos after the War: A Heroes of Olympus Outtake
I hope everyone is staying safe and well! I was recently going through my archives and came across this short snippet I wrote back in 2014, shortly after The Blood of Olympus came out. I had teased my fans that I might make the last book nothing but the seven main demigods sitting around eating nachos for five hundred pages. I was also well aware that fans would cry when they read Blood of Olympus (for many reasons) but especially because it went back to the three demigod POVs that started the series: Jason, Piper, Leo. “But no Peeeeercy? No Annnabeth? Waaaaaaa!” Yeah, yeah. That was intentional. It was kinda the point, that Percy and Annabeth had to step away from the spotlight and let other heroes do their part. Stepping back is often just as difficult as stepping up.
Anyway, I wrote this little scene where the seven demigods are together again after the war with Gaea is over, and they are in fact just sitting around eating nachos, chatting about how they feel about the issues I mentioned above. I never finished the scene, and I can’t promise you it fits in the ‘canon’ of stories that have come afterwards, but I figured you guys might enjoy it, especially in these stressful stay-at-home times.
Be good to each other. Stay well. Some day, we will be able to sit around the table together and eat nachos!
Nachos After the War
“Brace yourself,” Leo said. “These babies are dangerous.”
He set the nachos in the middle of the table. The platter was piled high with toasted tortilla chips, melted cheese and jalapeno slices.
The six other demigods leaned in to study their new quest.
“Why are they dangerous?” Frank asked. “Do they explode or something?”
Hazel frowned. “Leo, please tell me you didn’t use Gorgon blood for seasoning.”
“Nah, these are legit nachos. But the jalapenos are from the Demeter cabin’s garden. They grow them, like, superhot. Best I’ve ever had.”
Piper pulled a nacho from the pile. “Vegetarian?”
“Yeah, Beauty Queen. Broke my heart to use refried beans with no lard, but for you, I compromised. Now, for the real challenge . . .”
Leo whipped out a jar of green chili sauce. “Valdez High Octane Fuel. May result in severe burns.”
“Bring it on.” Percy rubbed his hands. “I love spicy.”
Annabeth elbowed him. “After drinking from the Phlegethon, you can still say that?”
“Well, I’m digging in.” Jason said. “Before they get cold.”
“Oh, that won’t happen.” Leo’s hand burst into flames. He seared the top of Nacho Mountain. “There you go. Toasted at your table.”
The demigods started pulling nachos off the pile and passing around the Valdez High Octane Fuel.
It was a nice afternoon at the dining pavilion. Most of the campers were off doing their late summer activities – archery classes, the climbing wall, canoeing around the lake. Over by the stables, Arion was munching on a pile of gold nuggets, fueling up after the trip from Camp Jupiter with Hazel and Frank.
“Is it weird that I miss the Argo II?” Jason wondered.
“Nah.” Percy popped a jalapeno slice in his mouth. “We had some good times on that ship. When we weren’t about to die, that is.”
“That was basically always,” Annabeth said.
Piper sighed, gazing out across Long Island Sound. “Yeah. Good times.”
Hazel threw a diamond at Leo. It bounced off his shirt. “I still can’t believe you let us think you were dead.”
“Okay, first of,” Leo said, “I was dead. Second, I came back as soon as I could. Ogygia is like . . . a long way away. I’m just glad it wasn’t centuries afterwards. And third, I did make nachos. That’s the best peace offering I could think of.”
“You sure you can’t stay?” Jason asked. “I mean, dude, everybody needs you here.”
“I appreciate it,” Leo said. “But Calypso kind of wants to see the world. And I kind of want to show it to her.”
Percy cleared his throat, like the jalapeno had gone down wrong. “So . . . where is she?”
“Festus took her to Manhattan for the afternoon. She figured it would be easier, giving me some time with you guys. Besides, she wants to see the city.”
Frank picked the cheese off his nachos. It was times like this he hated being lactose intolerant. “So where will you go next? Will you come out to visit Camp Jupiter? I know Reyna would like to see you.”
Leo laughed. “Last time I was there I blew up her Forum, but thanks. Maybe one of these days. I don’t know. We don’t have any plans. And I kind of like it that way.”
Percy noticed a dreamy, happy look on Leo’s face, like he’d just had a really good dream, wrapped in warm blankets in a comfortable bed. It made him happy for Valdez, but also a little sad.
“I felt so useless,” Percy said. “I mean . . . the final battles with the giants and Gaea. Anybody else feel like I wasn’t even there?”
“That was the whole point, Seaweed Brain.” Annabeth sipped her lemonade.
“For me to be useless?”
“No, your fatal flaw . . . my mom warned you about it. Kymopoleia warned you. You’ve been hearing about it for years. To save a friend, you’d lose the world. You can’t step back if a friend is in trouble.”
“Yeah. But . . .”
“Man,” Leo said. “I know it was harsh, but I had to pull that stunt – get Gaea off the ground, blow her up, risk my life. If I’d told you about . . .”
Percy sighed. “Okay. I would’ve tried to stop you. Or help you. Or something.”
“And that’s what Gaea would want – to have us crossing wires, messing each other up.” Leo pulled another tortilla chip from the pile. “Your big challenge was stepping back, not being the big hero. Letting me do what I needed to do.”
“Not very heroic,” Percy mumbled.
“Which is the whole point,” Piper agreed.
“It’s my struggle too,” said Annabeth. “My flaw is pride. I’ve been learning about that ever since the Argo II set sail. I think I can solve every problem. But I can’t. I needed Piper’s help. I needed to accept that other people need to act, take the risk, solve the problem when I can’t. Percy . . . we had our share of trouble.”
“Like fricking Tartarus, for instance,” he said.
“Yeah. But the end game – that was all Jason, Piper and Leo. Just the way it started. That’s how it had to finish. Us stepping back, letting it happen as it was meant to . . . that was our last big challenge.”
“Just saying it was kind of a letdown.”
Hazel smiled. “Someday, when they write this story, I bet the readers will say the same thing. The great Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase . . . their last challenge was to not be the ones who solved the challenge. But your struggle is being able to let go. Maybe the people who read your story . . . that will be their struggle, too. There’s always a time when you have to let go.”
Percy had to smile. “Hazel, you’ve come a long way since that day at the Caldecott Tunnel. Look at you now – centurion, sorceress, all-around kicker of butts.”
Hazel rolled her eyes. “Well, you’re still the scariest most powerful demigod I know, Jackson. I’m just saying . . . that’s why it was hard for you to not be the center of the fight. But it had to be that way. It doesn’t mean you won’t have other challenges in the future.”
“Oh, please,” Percy groaned. “Can I get through high school first? I need some R&R.”
“And some time with your girlfriend,” Annabeth added.
“And that.”
“Hey,” Frank said. “Did you see your mom? I remember when we were in Alaska, you were trying to call her.”
“Yeah, I did,” Percy said. “She . . . well, she knew I was okay. I’d sent her some letters via the wind spirits, then an Iris-message after the battle. But when I got home, man, I think she cracked some ribs she hugged me so hard. She’s doing all right, though. I mean, my mom is a tough lady. She’s finished her first novel.”
“Nice,” Jason said. “Uh . . . the novel’s not about you, is it?”
Percy frowned. “She won’t tell me. That kind of has me worried. And this little smile she gave my stepdad Paul . . . I dunno. She said she wants it to be a surprise.”
“Uh-oh,” Piper said. “Well, if she gets published and becomes a bestseller, I can give you some tips about dealing with a famous parent. It’s not all fun and games.”
Rick Riordan
Piper pulled a nacho from the pile. “Vegetarian?”
“Yeah, Beauty Queen. Broke my heart to use refried beans with no lard, but for you, I compromised. Now, for the real challenge . . .”
Leo whipped out a jar of green chili sauce. “Valdez High Octane Fuel. May result in severe burns.”

Leo Valdez: Sorry I’m So Lame
Pairing: Leo Valdez x fem!reader
Summary: Parties have never really been your scene, and so when Leo gets invited to one, your insecurities start to play tricks on your mind…
Warnings: insecure reader, Leo being amazing as per usual, anxiety, crying, definitely an introverted reader, kissing, major comfort
A/N: this is yet again completely self-indulgent and something I have been feeling lately, so I hope at least one of you can relate to this and realize that just because you don’t enjoy the “popular” thing to do, doesn’t mean you are “uncool.” Just enjoy your life and do what you love ❤️
Tumblr media
“Hey Leo! Wait up!” you hear from behind you.
You and Leo were walking from the dining hall back to his cabin after dinner. You had plans to watch the new marvel movie that had just dropped on Disney+, and you were extremely excited.
Nights like these were your absolute favorite. Staying in, eating ice cream, and escaping into another world. Doing this with Leo was the definition of your happy place. You two would just sit on the couch, crack jokes, discuss the movie, and fall asleep in each other’s arms. Who could ask for anything more?
And so after dinner, you grabbed Leo by the hand and started leading him back to Cabin Nine. You already had the movie all set up and the ice cream in the freezer. You even had the exact pair of sweatpants you wanted to wear all picked out before dinner. You were so excited to watch your favorite movie with your favorite person….
….until his name got called.
“What’s up Travis?” Leo said politely with his hand still connected to yours.
“The Hermes Cabin is throwing a little party tonight, and we were wondering if you guys wanted to join?” he asked, and your heart dropped a little.
“Oh, thanks for the offer, but we have movie plans,” Leo said with a smile. He looked at you when he said that, with nothing but joy in his eyes.
So why did you just get so anxious?
“Alright. That’s cool. Feel free to stop over if you change your mind!” Travis said, then jogged back into the dining hall.
Leo squeezed your hand and turned you around to head back towards your destination. You were still really excited to spend some much needed alone time with Leo, but your mood went down a bit after that interaction with Travis.
You and Leo walked back to his cabin in a comfortable silence, but your mind was anything but quiet.
Did Travis sound disappointed? Maybe Leo wants to go? Is this boring to him? Maybe we are missing out? He should do what he wants not what I want? Right? Just because I don’t enjoy parties doesn’t mean he can’t go. But what if I won’t want him to go? What if he finds people who are more fun to him? What if he leaves me for them? What if-
“Ladies first,” Leo said as you arrived to the Cabin door. You giggled as he held the door open for you as you walked into his, as he liked to call it, “man cave.”
“Since you paid for the movie I will be serving you ice cream, madame,” Leo said to you as he kissed your hand, imitating a prince. You blushed, looking down at your feet.
“I can get my own ice cream Leo” you said to him, but he shook his head firmly.
“Nope,” he said, and kissed your cheek. He then walked away from you and into the kitchen. “Go get settled. I have the blankets all ready,” he yelled sweetly, and you smiled at his attention to detail.
You made your way to the couch, sat down, pulled the blankets over your body, and finally relaxed after a stressful week. You seemed to have had almost double the work this week than ever before, and you were exhausted. So exhausted, that the relief of you finally relaxing made you completely forget about the party that was going on.
Until the Hermes Cabin started blasting music, and your anxious feelings returned.
The music was so loud you could practically hear every lyric. The beat pulsed through the cabin like a heartbeat and the ground almost vibrated from it.
With every beat of drum and string of guitar, your nerves crawled up your body more and more.
You worried that Leo wasn’t telling the truth and actually wanted to go to the party. He knew a good majority of the people there and he always got along with people quite easily. He was a very friendly person and easily likable. It’s not that you weren’t, you just needed to recharge your battery more often than him. He was always sweet to you about it and would give you alone time whenever you needed it, but as you and Leo got closer and closer, he became your battery. Time relaxing with him or eating with him or even just sleeping next to him was your version of a good time.
He always said he felt the same. That no night would compare to a night spent curled up with you. You wished your anxiety would just shut up and believe him.
He’s never lied to you before, but would this even be considered a lie? Maybe it was just a part of himself he didn’t want to show out of fear you would get left behind or swept away in the crowd? Leo would do anything to make you happy, you knew that, but was he happy?
“Alright, I got your favorite, chocolate fudge brownie,” Leo said to you as he set the ice cream bowls down on the coffee table. You jumped a little at his voice after being so lost in your own mind.
“Thanks Leo,” you said to him and gave him a weak smile. He sat down and smiled back, but he did a double take at the look in your eyes.
“Everything ok?” he asked, and you nodded quickly.
“Yeah. I’m good,” you said, but your voice cracked at at the end. There was no getting that past Leo.
“Love..,” he said to you as he scooted closer to you, “you can tell me if you’re upset. No secrets, remember?”
“I know. I just-” you began, but your voice cracked even harder and a tiny tear spilled from your eyes. You didn’t even realize you started crying until Leo sat down.
“It’s alright. Take your time,” Leo said, and reached his arm over the back of the couch to stroke your shoulder.
After a few seconds of you collecting yourself, you took a deep breath and continued.
“I’m sorry I’m so lame,” you said, and just the act of releasing those words from your mouth made you start to tear up again.
“Lame? Who told you you were lame?” Leo said, scooting impossibly closer now.
“No no no one called me that. I just uh..” you began, but your voice cracked a third time, and Leo took this as the message to pull you into his chest.
You cried into him for a minute or two, just letting your emotions out onto his chest. His hands glided up your back and through your hair, trying to comfort you as best he could. His body was naturally warmer than yours, and this always made you cuddle deeper into him. His warmth against your body always cleared your head and relaxed your muscles.
You sniffled one final time, and Leo pressed his lips to your temple.
“Please help me make you feel better,” he whispered against you, and you breathed his words in deeply.
“I just felt bad because that party seems fun and I don’t want to hold you back from what you enjoy. Parties aren’t really my thing and you’re always so sweet to hang out with me, but if you want to go to something like that please just go. I would hate to keep you here watching a movie with me on a Friday night while the rest of camp is all together. It just isn’t fair to you,” you said, and you felt him exhale on your skin.
“Y/N/N, do you really think I would want to go to some random party at the Hermes Cabin even if I wasn’t blessed to have you around?” he asked, and you pulled away from his embrace to look into his eyes. Leo smiled at your confused expression and wrinkled eyebrows.
“What?” you asked groggily, and he brought his hand into the hair at the nape of your neck.
“First of all, Travis barely talks to me. Second of all, that music is incredibly loud and obnoxious. I could excuse the volume if the music was actually good, but unfortunately that is not the case,” he said while laughing, and a smile started to come back to your face at his teasing tone.
“Third of all, parties have never been my thing either. I don’t like how many people are around me and how I have to be fake friendly for like three hours at minimum. That’s exhausting,” he said, and you were definitely laughing now.
How was he so good at this? He’s always been so good at this. The perfect way to make you feel better. The perfect man.
“Fourth of all, you’re not there, so there’s absolutely no reason for me to go anyway,” he said, and you shook your head.
“But-”
“Don’t even try to argue amore. The reason we work so well together is because we enjoy the same things. We like to sit around at the end of a long day and talk about movies with incredibly unrealistic plots. We like to sleep in and be lazy when we can, because we both work really hard. Like, incredibly hard. You’re the hardest working person I know,” he said, and his own eyes were now starting to fill with tears.
“And I love you. I love whatever we do together because you’re there. I love that you care so much about my happiness that you would sit in this cabin alone just so I can have fun, but I assure you, the only way I can be myself is with you,” he said, and a huge load was finally lifted off of your chest.
“And who has fun when they aren’t being themselves?” he said, and you smiled.
“Not me,” you said with a giggle, and he brought both hands to the sides of your face.
“Exactly. And besides, if I had any desire to go to a party like that, no matter how unlikely that case may be, I would tell you,” he said, and you smiled. Relieved.
“Thank you,” you said to him, and he kissed your nose.
“Of course my love. There is nothing to worry about,” he said, pressing his forehead next to yours.
You pulled him into a kiss by his shirt collar, and you felt him smile into it. You smiled as well, feeling his soft, plump lips against yours and the faint taste of chocolate on his tongue. He massaged your head with his fingers, and you laid your hands on his chest. You kissed each other lightly for a few seconds, loving the way your bodies moved into their natural rhythm. Just like they always have, and they always will.
You pulled away, blushing once more.
“I love you,” you said to him, and he blushed as well.
“I love you. So much,” he responded, and you pecked his lips one more time.
“Ok. Movie time,” you said to him, and he laughed. You laid your head on his chest, and he wrapped his arm around your body.
“Yes ma’am,” he said to you, and you laughed out of your nose.
He kissed the top of your head, unable to keep his lips off of you, before he finally pressed play and you both allowed yourselves to disappear into the movie.
You knew, deep in your heart, that Leo loved you for you. What better way was there to live?
