One of us
Word count: 1,979
Pairing: none
Warnings: swearing, mentions of abuse
Summary: Illumi tries to rebel, leading right to you and the troupe. His shackles break, he tastes freedom for the first time.
Tumblr media
It was the most dangerous point this time of the year, the time when the troupe had to change their hideout.
You didn´t really have to but there have been incidents in the past that made you extra careful now, incidents that started the whole Zoldyck hatred in your group.
Well hatred would mean fear as well which wasn´t the case, they were more of a nuisance, a wasp that always came back to eat the cake even though you flicked it away so many times already.
Though you had to give it to them, they tried, always came back even though they knew they´d lose. Just like all the other times.
It was like a game of cat and mouse, hide and seek.
It would´ve been fun if it wasn´t so annoying.
You had to admit that it was kind of funny to see those old guys chase after you, with such a laughable ambition in their eyes. What were they even trying to achieve? Honestly, you were just trying to live your life and have some fun. As far as you were concerned you never interfered with anyone of them or their acquaintances if they had any.
Well, maybe they were just trying to stay relevant in the underground and took every job they could get even though they could never even hope to finish it.
Quite a sad fate but that was what you got when you just wouldn´t learn your lesson.
Being stubborn wasn´t always the key to being successful.
“Where are we going this time, captain?” you asked, peaking out your head from behind the boxes you were carrying.
“Oh! How about somewhere near a beach? I haven´t been on vacation in so long” Machi chimed in, a dreamy expression in her eyes.
“Wait actually, how about a vacation? I mean we don´t really have any jobs right now, why not take a day or two off?” you supported her statement.
Everyone seemed to agree with the idea but Chrollo was reluctant. “We should move somewhere safe first and make sure the Zoldycks are busy with something else. I´ll think about it then” he let you know.
After they killed one of you he became paranoid, even more than he already was.
And you couldn´t blame him.
Chrollo didn´t have it easy in the first place managing the spider, being able to stay hidden and without anyone bothering you.
“Alright. I´ll check the route” you said, making yourself useful and making sure nobody would follow you.
As you stepped out of the hideout and looked around everything was in the clear, you nodded at Phinks and Uvogin who were responsible for driving the trucks with all your belongings.
The two men helped carry the last boxes inside the trunks and then you all joined them in the cars.
Chrollo was on edge, you could tell, the way he stared outside the window so paranoid as if you´d get attacked the next second.
“We´re almost there, captain. I can´t sense anyone but us, it´s gonna be over soon” you tried to calm him down, he appreciated it, just nodding.
His jaw was still clenched, but that was just how he was, always looking out for others and disregarding himself in the process.
When you arrived it was a bit too quiet for your liking, the others were careful too.
“I´m going to check it out, you guys can start unpacking already” you said and walked around the property. This time you chose an abandoned hotel, the furniture was still in tact and Shalnark could work very well in the security and control room.
You decided to work on the basement together, making a nice playroom for Feitan.
The building was big enough so that there was something for everyone, the location was very well hidden too, so maybe you could stay here longer this time. You´d like that.
Carefully and observant you looked around and walked everywhere around the property, nobody else was here besides you, but you could feel something. It made you uneasy. And yet it wasn´t a threatening aura.
That was it. An aura.
Anyone who´d come to attack you would conceal it, so why…. Why was this person here? And more importantly: where were they?
You frowned, being even more careful now and not making it as obvious that you were looking around. Hell, you even laid against a brick wall as to show how much you didn´t know what was going on. You let your guard down in hopes of them doing it too.
But Illumi was even more careful. This was the most important mission in his life, the mission to gain his parents´ approval and love, failure was not an option.
No matter what you do, don´t mess with the spiders. They´re not worth the effort and work. That´s what they always told him. And he had believed them his whole life, not even questioning it once.
But rather than doing exactly that and becoming aware of the fact that he was stronger than his parents thought he could ever be, in a way that wasn´t self destructive, in a way that wasn´t manipulative, he decided to make this rule something twisted.
Illumi knew what sort of punishment waited for him for breaking that rule, after all his family were the only ones who were still able to actually hurt him.
However he saw it as a chance, if he broke the rule and succeeded in killing them that would only show them what a great assassin they made of him, he wondered if his parents would finally be proud of him then.
“You don´t have any ill intent, how can I help you?” you faced him, still not seeing him but you could sense his nen well enough.
Illumi stayed hidden for a bit, how could you detect him? That messed up his plan quite the bit, but he didn´t have time to let it get to him.
He watched you from afar again, watching you just stand there unguarded. It was naive and stupid but so calculated, he rather felt like prey in a trap now, not the other way around. You made him uneasy and that excited him.
Maybe it wouldn´t hurt to play this game of catch with you, after all there was no hurt in having fun in his job, was there? Perhaps he was just playing with fire, you had challenged him for something he couldn´t calculate, for something he wasn´t ready for. It was exciting beyond belief.
“Ah, there you are~” you grinned when Illumi finally revealed himself.
“It´s not wise to be out here on your own, not calling anyone for help when you know someone´s here to harm you” he coldly stated, though it wasn´t really cold, it was just… distant, uncaring. There was no emotion behind it at all and yet all of them were. Maybe you were delusional but you could swear that you saw deep grief in his eyes, an even deeper hatred and regret.
Still, you didn´t know him, you doubted the others did as well.
“Yeah well it´s kind of obligatory to face danger in my work, so what brings you here? Something personal or just a job?” you couldn´t deny the fact that you were curious. After all it was pretty easy figuring out that he was an assassin as well. That only made things more interesting though.
“A bit of both” he answered truthfully. Again. No emotion in it at all. And somehow that just drew you in all the more.
“I see, well… hate to rain on your parade but we´re not really the types of people who get taken out easily. Or at all for that matter. But since you seem like a nice guy I´ll let you go before you make any stupid decisions” you offered him, Illumi was trained that nobody could ever trace his true intentions but all that training might as well be useless. Your intuition was better than that.
“I´m afraid I can´t do that. If I leave now everything will be over. I´ve come too far already to give up now” he let you know. Leaving for him would mean admitting to his parents that he broke their rule, he didn´t want to be punished like that ever again. He wanted to be free of them. Free for good this time.
But you were right, this was stupid to begin with. He knew how dangerous the spider was, he knew he wasn´t strong enough on his own. He sighed, the first sign of humanity he showed ever since he appeared. “I won´t kill you. But I can´t return either… this is inconvenient” he shook his head, thinking. Just what was he supposed to do now?
“Tell you what, why don´t you join us? You look like you have some tragic past, fits the job description” you grinned a bit.
Inviting him was a stupid idea, you knew that. But you felt sorry for him somehow. He clearly didn´t have a place where he belonged and to you that was just sad. Because you knew that everyone had a place to belong to, no matter how fucked up and broken they were.
“Pardon? I´m afraid that´s the worst idea I´ve ever heard” he said, appalled. Human emotion detected!
“Bad ideas make for good stories, what do you have to lose?” you grinned, curious about his answer.
Illumi had to chuckle at that. “Nothing anymore actually. I would´ve said my family but I never had one to begin with” his eyes were so empty when he said that, it made you sad.
Though they also held that sorrowful look in them, that realization that he could never have a normal family, that he could never be truly happy and he shouldn´t care, he knew he shouldn´t but … he couldn´t help it. It wasn´t his fault. It was engraved in him from childhood.
“Well now you do! Welcome to the spider” you smiled and practically dragged him along into the hideout with you.
To say the rest was shocked would be an understatement. Alarmed would be more fitting. After all you just brought their enemy into the hideout. However even they had to admit after a while that Illumi was anything but an enemy. Sure at first he was quite awkward and didn´t know how to act around everyone. But that was the thing, he didn´t have to act anymore.
For the first time in his life he could be himself, for the first time he had a chance to figure out who the hell that even was.
He fit right in into the troupe, they were all outcasts in their own way, each had their weird quirks about them and that was just what made them unique and special, that wasn´t a bad thing like he had been taught. After a while he even opened up enough to laugh and joke around with everyone. Though his way of laughing was just smiling ever so slightly that you wouldn´t even notice it if you didn´t look hard enough.
But you did. And the others did too. You cared about Illumi, he was one of you now, everyone would want to read him and they were patient enough to wait for him to open up, he was a great addition to your little makeshift family. And he was funny. Illumi had a dark humor but when you got it, it was the funniest thing you´ve ever heard. It even had Chrollo chuckling. And for him that was the highest of expressions and the biggest compliment.
And when Illumi´s former family attacked he fought on his real family´s side. He fought for himself, to keep this freedom, this inner peace, this adventure and excitement he´s never known before.

Ging Freecss Character Analysis
Hisoka Analysis| Illumi Analysis| Killua Analysis| Chrollo Analysis
What’s up, y’all? I am back again with another analysis. Today, I will be talking about Ging Freecss and I am glad that this was requested by @dukinaxael. I’ve been wanting to talk about Ging for a while and now is my time to shine. PS, I’ll be doing Leorio’s character next.  I’m sorry that this is so short! I haven’t been able to watch the last seasons because Netflix will not upload them. Enjoy anyway!
We all know that Ging is considered to be a dead-beat father to his son Gon. He is the reason why Gon wants to become a hunter in the first place and will do ANYTHING to achieve that goal. As the story is told, Ging left his home when he was 12 years old to take the Hunter’s exam. After passing, he never returned home, at some point met Gon’s mom, and saved a lot of felons/criminal’s lives. Now he is apart of the Hunter’s association (I think?) and apart of the Zodiacs (I think). Some of these next statements are assumptions because I haven’t seen anything past season 4. From that little bit of information, it seems like Gon gets his “over achiever” mentality from his dad. Who would have thought that a young man who had just obtained his hunter’s license would use it to help out criminals instead of busting them? Aunt Mito has expressed how she felt once her brother left and didn’t return, that is why she stressed that Gon should return home once he gets his license. She even stated that she cried for the longest when she realized he wasn’t coming back.
Tumblr media
The whole mystery about why Ging abandoned Gon is very fuzzy. According to Aunt Mito, Ging dropped Gon at his house, said that he isn’t with Gon’s mom anymore, and left while some people say that Mito took Gon from Ging because she felt that he was too immature to take care of him. Some even say that he lost a custody case to her. I can’t tell you if this is true or not because I don’t know and I haven’t seen any seasons after 4.
Judging from YouTube Clips, Ging seems to be a selfish dad and doesn’t care about how his son basically cried like fuck for feeling guilty about what happened to Kite.
Tumblr media
Leorio asked why he hadn’t seen Gon in the hospital and he acted like he didn’t care. If you think about it, Gon is the type of child that doesn’t want things handed to him, so maybe Ging was implying that he didn’t want to see Gon until he continued to push and work towards finding him. Still, that’s a horrible way to reacted once you’ve found out that your son is about to die. Here are some questions that I’m sure most of you have:
Why did Hisoka want to talk to Ging? Does he know that Ging is related to Gon?
Why does he refuse to go anywhere near Gon?
Why does he only talk to Gon on a high tree and not on the ground where everyone else is?
Why did he send his son on a goose chase just to find him?
I don’t want to say that I hate Ging but I strongly dislike him. (If he did do this) Why would you abandoned your child and leave him with your sister for her to raise? Then you send your 12 year old son, who had endured so much emotional pain/trauma from beasts he had to fight along the way, BTW,  just to meet you and then you only talk to him once your high off the ground? Ging, not the best guy in the world and certainly doesn’t deserve the #1 Dad mug.
Did Ging do all of this so he could make his son stronger while he was away?
In regards to question 1, I’ve seen some rumors on YouTube implying that Hisoka had an agreement with Ging to watch over Gon until he returns. I’m assuming this was after Gon left home.  Ging said that once Gon returns home safely he and Hisoka will fight until the death.
Tumblr media
Do you all remember when Hisoka told Gon something along these lines at the end of their fight at Heaven’s arena?
Many people have suggested that Hisoka had been protecting Gon and Killua from fighting opponents they wouldn't win against and it makes sense. He wouldn’t let them pass until they learned about Nen and beat the crap out of them hoping that the pain would cause them to quit fighting and never receive their Hunter’s License or take on strong opponents. Now if that last part is true, why would Ging set up an entire game to lead Gon to him? That's still twisted no matter how you look at it. Like I said, this manga is twisted in ways that I can't understand, lol.
Hisoka and Gon consistently fighting reminds me of Danny Phantom and Vlad Plasmius.
Tumblr media
Another person implied that Hisoka and Kite were people directed by Ging and along the way included Bisky (just by coincidence).
I would like to make a note. Pictures that were taken of young Ging portrayed him to be a happy and proud man but present day Ging looks angry, unhappy, and always ready to fight. Could this be due to the horrific nature of the Hunter's exam and other opponents that turned his innocence and humanity into something worse? We see the same thing happen to Gon. He was a happy bright kid that allows his anger to spiral out of control...and always wants to fight.
Well, you know what they say: Like father like son.
Ging and Gon finally have a talk as father and son.
Tumblr media
Apparently, Ging is on his way to the Dark Continent and forbids Gon to follow him. Overall, Ging has a toxic love for his son by consistently pushing his away until the very last second. I don’t know what is up but this anime is the definition of toxic love.
I can definitely say that Ging is a much better father than Zarkon. At least he acknowledges Gon unlike Zarkon who thinks his son is weak because he is half Altean. Damn, anime/manga’s; what’s up with the toxic father trope? Is this supposed to be the driving force to marketing these male characters stronger? Not going to lie, the toxic or sexist father trope is old and annoying .
This part of the analysis is based form what I’ve heard about Ging, YouTube clips, and what has been said about him. Of course I’m probably leaving out a lot of information but that’s because I haven’t seen the rest of the seasons.
Judging from photos kept around the house, Ging always wore his hat over his eye. I guess he was going for the Emo look when he was younger. His hat has hairs stick out from it which probably implies a certain type of cloth the hat is made from. In other instances, He has his hair sticking up like Gon’s but has a cloth wrapped around the edges. He wants them to be on fleek you know? Other times he just has his hair out with no hat or cloth. He usually wears white pants, shirt, and a blue cloth over his front and back side.
Tumblr media
I hope you all enjoyed this. I did try my best and I am so sorry that it is short.

Little magician in training
Just realized I never posted it here so here it is
Reminder requests are still open.
Had help from the amazing @amazing-fandoms thank you queen.
It was a slow night. The many empty seats , low murmurs , and few faces weren't the usual. Your circus while it wasn't the best, it was quite popular. Everyone worked hard and practiced new tricks and moves.
When you got on stage and looked at the people , you noticed how there's 20 at most in the empty seats. Doesn't this town crave any entertainment ? Most you've been through ended up with a large crown in the week you've stayed there. Guess you all will have to move on to the next one faster this time.
You're a magician and a pretty good one at that. Teaching yourself the tricks and following the footsteps of the previous magician made you this way. As a child, you admired your teacher a lot and wanted to learn even more. Making you even better than him as you always seeked more knowledge.
Your eyes met with a yellow curious childish ones. He was watching you intensely probably trying to figure out your tricks. The boy looks pretty poor because of his ripped dirty clothes and messy look. You felt him tense up as you watched him prepare to flee. So he sneaked his way in ? That wasn't exactly easy and done by a child ? That's impressive.
Smiling to the child as you pointed to him.
"Would you like to volunteer for my next trick ?"
His eyes lit up as he nodded and approached you. You showed him a deck of cards and asked him to pick one. This was always an audience pleaser even though it had such a simple trick to it. Guessing the card wasn't hard at all as you knew what card was right above it even if you shuffled the deck.
He looked impressed as the small audience clapped for you. You loved card tricks because they were simple yet many find very fascinating. They didn't need fancy equipment like most of your other tricks but hey , that's what nen is for right ?
Your flame breather colleague was next as you left to your trailer. Still feeling incredibly disappointed at the small number of people who showed up. Was this town that poor ? Or your circus wasn't interesting enough ?
Feeling a presence behind you , you immediately prepared your card as you turned around. The melted golden eyes met yours. What a sneaky child.
"So you're not satisfied with sneaking into the show , you had to sneak into my room ?"
His eyes shone at your words "why didn't you say anything when you knew I snuck into the show ?"
Giggling at his bravery instead of apologizing and running off scared "because I used to do that when I was your age"
He approached somewhat gaining confidence "how did you do it ?"
"A magician never reveals his tricks. Where are your parents anyway ? Aren't they worried you're out ?"
"I don't have any , what do I have to do for you to teach me ?"
He asked extremely seriously as he brushed off being an orphan in a nonchalant manner. Who is this kid ? Sighing you got up and grabbed something from your drawer.
"Gum ?"
You asked, extending your hand. You always chewed gum when thinking as it helped you clear your mind. He looked at it then grabbed one satisfied to see you chewing on it.
"If I talked to the chief for you to be my apprentice , you have to follow my orders, do you understand me ?"
"I can't make any promises ~"
He said in a cheeky tone as you laughed. This kid reminds you too much of your old self , how could you say no to him ?
_____
Taking hisoka - the boy's name - as your apprentice angered the other performers. While he was in fact a fast learner , he learned everyone tricks from merely watching.
Everyone who used to practice together stopped and started doing it in secret. For him to be cut off like that angered you. He's just a kid. Why is everyone acting like he's going to steal their jobs ?
While he tended to prank everyone and somehow never get caught even though you all knew it was him , you started teaching him everything slowly. It probably what caused him to act out as he learned fast he got bored.
Refusing to teach him everything at once , he performs as your assistance. Having an adorable sidekick made people cheer more for your performance.
Leaving with hisoka in hand as you both chewed your favorite gum , you heard a loud groan of pain. Looking back , the juggler slipped on his way to the stage out of nowhere as he held his foot and yelled.
"you little monster ! How dare you put oil on the stage before my turn !"
You heard hisoka giggling under you as you went to his side "it can't be him , we walked out together just now ! Show me your leg"
His hand roughly pushed you away as he started cussing you for taking that demon child side while the others gathered around. He can't juggle with a twisted ankle but the people are waiting for one.
"I know most of his routine so I can fill for him ~"
The sudden incredibly sweet voice of hisoka interrupted the discussion going on over how they'll handle this. Feeling everyone venomous stares at him you stood in front of him. The director however smiled brightly agreeing over the idea. People are getting restless and changing the routine out of nowhere would anger them.
Hisoka smiled smugly looking at the people glaring at him as he headed to do his first performance.
_____
The juggler left the circus soon after , there was shards of glass on his coffee that he swore hisoka put in , but you and hisoka were out training in the town over. He got hurt badly and left the circus.
Everyone was cautious of hisoka but the fact that he wasn't even around made them not kick him out for it. No one knows how the glass got to the coffee cup till this day.
Hisoka took over the juggler as he seemed so happy of the news it creeped everyone out - including you -. You're the person who spent the most time with him so you wanted to see his good side. You really did.
Teaching him the last trick you know , you saw his face fall when you told there's nothing more to learn.
"Sorry buddy , this is everything I know. I'm working on new tricks but those will be for me alone."
He looked at you frowning "I guess I'll have to come up with my own tricks then."
He said as he calmly walked outside "I'm not coming back. if that juggler ever comes back , tell him talking to a lady and pushing her down like that is what put the glass in his coffee ~"
Your eyes widened as you watched his small frame leaving. Was he the one who did this ?
"Also , I will learn how to control the aura around me like you do one day and I'll be a better magician than you. That's a promise ~"

Reconnaissance Mission
(A/N: Part three to this and this little series. How is Illumi dealing with this weird Hunter woman? Not especially well! :D)
In the days after she snapped at him, Illumi found himself thinking more and more often of the strange Hunter that dared stand between himself and his dearest little brother. Her indignation and her stubborn drive to protect those children (even from things they needn’t be protected from, like their own family) stuck in his mind. It also bothered him that his Kill seemed to care for her as well.
He started keeping an eye on the Hunter once in awhile, in-between jobs. He told himself that he was simply watching over Kill at first, since she accompanied him and the other boy, Gon, fairly often, like a mother hen. Then he decided that he was watching the Hunter to figure out the opportune moment and way to get rid of her, so she would stop interfering with his family. Then, he simply watched her out of habit. She was so odd, in a completely different way than most other people he knew; she flipped constantly between maternal caring for the two young boys, to a sort of childlike giddiness whenever she talked to a friend (he observed that she spent a lot of time in a retired Hunter’s curio shop) about recent acquisitions as a Hunter, to that same pique she had showed him when she felt one of her own was threatened – though he also observed that this happened relatively infrequently.
Illumi was unaware how much he had been thinking of this Hunter, trying to establish a pattern in her behaviour and discover her combative prowess, until Hisoka brought it up to him, to his slight embarrassment.
“You look troubled, my friend. Thinking about that girl again?” Illumi could hear the smirk in the magician’s voice without needing to look.
“Why do you think that?”
“Because I’ve seen how much you watch her. If I didn’t know better, I’d almost think you were smitten,” Hisoka said, leaning in too close to Illumi’s face. He did things like this often, and Illumi immediately schooled his expression into one of smooth indifference perfected after years of practice.
“I need to know how to cleanly get rid of her. She is interfering with Zoldyck family business, but I don’t want my brother to be too upset when she disappears.” He said quietly, calmly. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Hisoka, but he knew his companion was always looking for cracks in everyone’s armor. This woman would not be one in his.
“I’m surprised you haven’t taken her out already,” Hisoka purred, “she isn’t a very experienced fighter. You could take her out easily. She can barely keep her aura under control with the intensity of her emotions.” His voice was right in Illumi’s ear, like a snake. Illumi finally deigned to look at Hisoka, turning his eyes, but not his head. He wasn’t sure what to say here; a part of him balked at the idea of killing the Hunter-woman, but he couldn’t articulate why.
“I know what I’m doing, Hisoka,” Illumi said, unsure if he were assuring the magician or himself, “don’t worry about it.”
Hisoka shrugged playfully, backing off. Illumi returned his gaze to a spot on the wall opposite him and concluded that he would have to do something about the Hunter before Hisoka did.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Two weeks after that exchange, Illumi covertly followed the Hunter on one of her quests, as he had been doing increasingly often. He was not especially worried about her safety; the things she Hunted for she typically did not have to fight others to acquire. He watched her glide through forests, consulting ancient maps, and finally arrive at what looked like the ruins of a temple. His Hunter approached the ruins slowly, reverently, her eyes shining in awe. There was something fascinating about that, he thought. Seeing her eyes all wide and bright captivated him, somehow. Perhaps this is her nen style? Was she a Manipulator, like him?
Before he could ponder it too long, there was a sudden movement as five men leapt out of their hiding spots to surround his Hunter before she could reach the ruins. Illumi leaned forward, observing more closely now. He had been looking forward to this. He knew that his Hunter was being followed, and now he would have an opportunity to see how she fought. Then he would know how best to neutralize her, and she would not have her claws in his Kill anymore.
His Hunter jumped, frightened. She clearly had not known she was followed. Her first mistake.
Reacting quickly, she looked around for possible escapes. Apparently finding none (though Illumi could spot a few), she lowered her stance and said something to the brigand directly in front of her. Naïvely demanding answers or trying to buy herself time? Either way, a waste of precious time to fight or escape. Her second mistake.
Fortune must have been in her favour, though, because the apparent leader of the brigands laughed and began delivering what must have been some sort of monologue; the other four men politely waited for him to finish, rather than rushing her while she was distracted.
Suddenly, a shout: “ASĊUFE!” and the leader was sent flying back a few feet. His Hunter did not appear to have moved, but that was clearly a use of her nen. She must be an Emitter, then. That would account for her short temper. He leaned in closer, intent on learning exactly how she fought.
Not waiting for the leader to get back up, she rushed forward, aiming for the entrance of the ruined temple. But she was not quite quick enough as the leader grabbed her leg and dragged her down. Then the four other brigands rushed in, some recoiling with shouts of pain when she shouted another word, “Forseċe!” and as she inexpertly slashed at her attackers with a knife. But they were all larger than she, and clearly trained to fight together, and Illumi began to worry that she might not make it out of this fight.
No.
He dashed toward the melee, keeping himself concealed, and threw a needle at each brigand. With practiced effortlessness, he hit his mark each time and a round-headed needle embedded itself into the neck of four of the men, and the eye of the leader, still under his Hunter. Ignoring his screams, Illumi sat back in his hiding place in the forest canopy as he realized what he had just done. His Hunter rolled away in a panic and ducked for cover – that’s better, Illumi thought absently – and he tried to decide how to proceed from here.
Why had he done that? It was reflexive, he did it the moment his Hunter looked to be in real danger. Well, I need to be the one who kills her, I can’t let some nobody thugs do it before I’ve made her pay, he thought. But was that really the reason? Why did the idea of someone else hurting her twist his gut so unpleasantly? The only time they had spoken, she had snapped at him for talking to his own beloved little brother. Why was he being like this?
He didn’t understand this strange protectiveness. This Hunter had a dangerous hold on him now, not just his Kill. This was a problem he would need to give some serious thought to now. He needed to deal with her – the sooner the better.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trying to muffle her panicked breaths, the Hunter waited in her hiding spot for what felt like an eternity under the cover of the ruins, in case whatever had suddenly killed the mercs was still there. Eventually, when listening and searching for an aura still indicated that she was alone, she crawled slowly out of her hiding place and examined the nearest body, Mad Dog, the leader. There was something in his eye, and looked deep enough to have gotten to his brain. The screaming as he died had been horrible, and she had to turn away and take some deep breaths to keep herself from puking. Turning back to look again, she finally recognized what the weapon was: a needle, with a big, round, golden head. She had seen these once before, and she couldn’t imagine who else could use them to so effectively kill someone. An icy hand clenched around her heart.
Illumi’s been following me.

Thoughts: KilluGon Confession, Gon’s Emotional Control
Okay, so, this is a follow up post to my response/reaction/emotions on Tele’s post about KilluGon potentially canon explicit romantic confession. (Her detailed explanation was wonderful and beautiful and excellent, I just wanted to make a separate post on my thoughts because my brain is screaming into the void rn.)
Ok disclaimer: I’m working with the remainder of my caffeinated braincells right now so everything I say will be 100% subjective and just *thoughts* aka *mush*.
So…
I’ve also had/believed this headcanon that Gon fell first since I started watching hxh years ago because it’s too obvious, right? Tbh, I never thought of Killua being gay for Gon until recently (like 8 months ago-recently) because it’s always Gon who’s explicit about his thoughts on Killua. It’s too obvious. We could never miss it. So him confessing his love for him would make so much sense. Everything falls into place in my head.
Lea said some really good stuff about Killua’s character arc and how it sends a positive message to all the readers and everyone who identifies with him, a child who suffered from years of abuse. And him receiving love, accepting it and giving it in return would complete his growth process (I’m basically just summarizing here; please read Tele’s post they’re much more comprehensive and well-written).
A dramatic romantic confession to happen in canon would be the one to seal it – from Gon, a complete stranger he randomly met at the Hunter Exam, the first person to call him a friend, the person who went out of his way to save him from his family’s tortures, the boy who accepted him for who he is, wholly, unconditionally.
It would change everything. It would end past traumas.
Not only Killua’s, but also Gon’s.
Please allow me to lay down my 4am thoughts about what I think confessing his feelings for Killua would mean for Gon as well (with regard to his own character arc and self-worth issues).
Okay so before I go into that I want to try and explain how “confessing love” feels like / what it means to the person SAYING it. It’s nerve-racking. The tension. The pressure on your shoulders. The block in your throat. Your shaky hands. Your shaky voice. The fear of getting rejected. The fear of saying the wrong words or doing the wrong thing. The fear of jumping into the unknown. It’s a leap of faith. An ending and/or a beginning. It’s that line you cross where you can never go back. Once the words are said, BAM, it stays forever, and the very thought of that, the anxiety, the overthinking, nips at your brain.
The very thought of confessing to a person you like/love FOR THE FIRST TIME is fucking terrifying (Idk about you, but it is to me. And I feel like, for TEENAGERS, it would feel like hell’s pulling them to the earth’s core. Just. The thought of it.)
What I’m trying to say here is that, expressing genuine *romantic* feelings takes courage. And in this headcanon, with Gon being the one to SAY IT FIRST, he would probably go through all of these. But him being ABLE to say it would mean MORE THAN overcoming a fear of expressing. “But Gon doesn’t have any problems expressing his emotions.” Actually, you’re not wrong. But, for me, this isn’t exactly right.
Let’s jump first to me explaining my take on how Gon handles emotions:
For me, Gon has a hard time expressing what’s in his heart. Idk how to explain, but it’s just that, it’s so easy for him to say what’s on his mind all the time. But he has a tendency of neglecting negative emotions and hiding his true feelings; or letting himself feel it for a while but then he finds something that would make him forget about it. We’ve seen him breakdown. Emotions. Just piled up. And he exploded.
He said some bad things to Killua, he did some bad stuff. It’s all in the heat of the moment. And for me, I see it as lack of emotional control (bc he’s 12 and has abandonment issues and witnessed his father-figure severe his arm and basically dead in front of him give him a break YOU BREAKDOWN AND SAY BAD THINGS TO PEOPLE YOU LOVE AT 23Y/O DO NOT DENY IT) because he doesn’t know HOW to control it when it gets to him.
He’s afraid that he might break. And in effect, he would feel weak and helpless and useless. (Or even vice versa.)
Gon, unknowingly, protects himself from breaking by inserting the good things in his head. He protects himself from feeling useless by lending a helping hand, because he feels that he’s valuable that way; he feels that he’ll be loved and validated that way. He’d feel that he has purpose. It happens to people, which isn’t a bad thing at all, but it’s something that Gon could learn how to cope up with as he grows and matures.
(Read Tele’s wonderful meta about Gon Freecss here. I haven’t finished reading but I’m loving every bit of it so far.)
Ok back to the confession take:
Having said that, I feel that Gon would find it difficult to express what it is he’s feeling in his heart. But here we have to recognize the fact that Togashi threw him back in Whale Island, nen-less and Killua-less, doing homework and chores and good ‘ol Islander stuff. The beauty of this interval is that it would give him MORE TIME and the SPACE and PEACE he needs to get into his head and heart and just think everything through, learn how to deal with his emotions. Since he already experienced a peak of his emotional catastrophe at 12y/o, he would look back at everything and just… realize what it is that he has to.
Part of it is his feelings for you-know-who catboy. <3
And he wants to tell him. I also think that he would want something to happen after telling him. But, he doesn’t know if or how he could say it freely, unlike before when they were stargazing and he suddenly told him that he happy when he’s with Killua. At that time, it was a spur of the moment; at that time, him and Killua haven’t experienced the trauma that is CAA; at that time, it was simple. But now? How could Gon face him and tell him that he loves Killua after everything that had happened? Something would hold him back. He would hesitate. Something like…
Tumblr media
So, again, him being able to say it (for me) would mean so much more than a simple get-together. Here’s a short list because I love lists!
Self-discovery and self-affirmation. You know how we see Gon as this sunshine boy who just wants to follow his dad’s footsteps to try and figure out what being a hunter is like / what’s great about being a hunter that Ging chose to not stay with him. At the present timeline, he already met Ging, he fulfilled his goal. What would he do now? What does he truly want? For me, him knowing that he *loves* someone dearly and *wants* to stay with that person would mean that he’s discovering which path he intends to go, for the long-term, and that sticking with that plan by expressing what he feels would simply affirm this self-discovery. It’s kind of related to that post by Tele here, of Gon following a path that’s not his dad’s footsteps. He’d have his own thing. He’d be his own person. Confessing your true feelings to your BEST FRIEND in the whole world would be a BIG STEP and Gon should know that it shouldn’t be taken lightly. It’s a very mature thing to do! When this becomes canon, idk, I’d cry because I’d be so proud of him for realizing what he feels, taking that emotion carefully and maturely, and expressing it lovingly – which brings me to my next point.
Being open to give and accept love again. Emphasize on the “again” because he went through a traumatic episode in his young life. You know that saying that you can never give what you don’t have? Well, folks, I think this is also applicable to Gon’s character now, like, after CAA, and after everything basically. We always see him giving love to OTHERS. Do we see him give love to himself? Gon endures pain and suffering because he thought it’s what he deserved. He’s willing to die in his best friend’s place so that he’d live. He’s willing to die to atone for something he didn’t even do. Gon needed to love himself. He had to learn how to take care of himself. You can never give a love you don’t have – so him dropping everything and professing his love for Killua would also mean that he DID it, finally. He’d have so much love for himself to give. He’d be ready to give all the love he stored for himself, and I think that’s really pretty.
Overcoming past trauma / getting back up on his feet. Having said all those, it all boils down to overcoming and ending past trauma – everything – because it would be a start of something new and fresh and beautiful. It would be a beginning of a new world for him, bright, spotless, unadulterated. When you fall in love, everything falls into place somehow, and all you see are beautiful things. I think this is meaningful because, while he’d seen beautiful things, Gon experienced abandonment, he experienced trauma and all the awful things we saw so far. So, with this confession happening, this new beginning, he’d look at the world with brand new eyes, he’d look at Killua, and think that it’s not so bad after all, because he’d have this overflowing love stored in his heart. It would cancel out the bad. He’d have another reason to live and stay alive. He’d have that one thing he wants more than any material thing – and that is love and happiness. Confessing is a choice. And by doing it, Gon chooses love and happiness over any material thing he wished to hunt.
I don’t know if that made sense but there! lol This might be reaching but just imagine the symbolism. It would mean so much. <3

I was looking back through some of Muffin's older posts in the Hama Adopts Zuko AU (which has always been my fav), and I found your 'Mother' drabble thing, and I wanted to know if you could maybe write a little bit more in that AU? Like, it doesn't even need to be accurate, you don't even have to do it, it'd just... be amazing if you did. Thanks!
Ahhh ok I haven’t checked up on the Mother Hama AU (by @muffinlance) in a while, but I guess we can go for it. Be warned, though: I will be taking a lot of liberties. It’s very hard for me to just WRITE in someone else’s AU.
All right, this is going from this addition to the AU.
- - -
Zuko didn’t remember the names of the travelers anymore. Especially the ones that went down into the caves. It hurt less that way.
Still, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t seem to erase the first ones from his mind.
Their names were Nen and Rai, newly-married husband and wife. Zuko was pretty sure that Rai meant ‘trust’ in some old language. That really made the whole thing, better, didn’t it?
Zuko remembered the day vividly.
He wasn’t sure how long ago it was, but he had been shorter. He had looked out the window one evening and watched, his heart pounding, as Mother Hama guided the two back, her hands crossed in front of her, her skirt swaying, and her smile serene, as if nothing was wrong with the world.
Zuko knew that was a lie, but these two travelers didn’t.
He was sweating when he fell asleep that night.
The next morning, he was awake at the crack of dawn. The travelers must not be firebenders, or they were really tired, because they kept sleeping.
Mother Hama was awake, of course.
She eyed him when he walked in that morning before smiling and asking him kindly to set the table for two extra. He took out three plates.
“No, no, my Little Fire,” she said, her smile unwavering. “Four plates. Two for our guests, one for me, one for you.”
Zuko hesitated before pulling out a fourth plate.
He set the table quickly. He was filling the water jug when footsteps came from the floor above, and then from the creaky stairs. The travelers strolled in, hand-in-hand, looking very well rested and very in love.
“I never caught your names, dearies,” Mother Hama said as the three of them sat down and Zuko finished filling the water jug before moving toward the table.
“I’m Rai, and this is my husband Nen,” the woman said, her fingers still intertwined with the other’s.
“We’re technically on our honeymoon,” the man, Nen, put in, smiling softly as he stared at his wife. “We wanted to see the whole Fire Nation before we settled down to start a family.”
Hama smiled and engaged them in pleasant conversation as Zuko circled the table to fill the water cups.
“And who is this fine young man?”
Zuko didn’t realize they were talking to him for a moment until his eyes accidentally met Nen’s.
He couldn’t answer. His tongue was heavy and his throat was clogged, and then Mother Hama was speaking.
“That’s just my young son,” she replied, her chapped lips pulling out into a smile that would have looked fond to anyone but him. “He doesn’t talk much, I’m afraid. Shy, the poor dear, and often too sick.”
“Is he all right?” Rai asked, and the concern lacing her words was something he hadn’t heard in a long while.
Hama waved her hand. “He’s perfectly fine. A bit strange, I’ll admit, but he couldn’t hurt a fly. A wonderful help around here in my age, as well. He’s a lovely boy, he just... won’t talk to a single person. He’ll barely say a word to me.” She sighed, and it might have sounded sad and defeated to someone else. “It hurts, but I love him more than anything. I wouldn’t trade him for anything.”
That was true, though probably not for the reasons these travelers thought.
Rai turned and looked up at him, her sparkling eyes meeting his as she placed a soft hand on top of his own. “Your mother is very lucky to have you.”
Zuko’s eyes were wide, and he nodded, finished filling the cups, and hustled off to put the jug down and avoid the conversation.
After breakfast, Mother Hama sighed and stood up, announcing that she was going to the marketplace.
“I’ll just be grabbing some things for dinner.”
Rai and Nen both jumped to accompany her. Zuko wished he could learn how she enamored herself to people so easily.
He finished his chores quickly while they gone. He spent the hours until they returned, after he was done, curled up in the corner in his room. He wasn’t sure if he was shaking or not. He wasn’t cold. It was summer.
That night, when Mother Hama was cooking dinner, Rai and Nen were inside their room, organizing their things and talking, and Zuko peeked inside.
Nen was the one who noticed him, and he gestured the teenager inside with a warm smile.
“Hey, kid,” Nen said, his eyes crinkling in the way that only new love could bring. “What’s up?”
This was his chance. It was the full moon. If it hadn’t been, maybe he wouldn’t have bothered, but it was a full moon. He knew what that meant, regardless of how daft Mother Hama thought he was.
Zuko wet his lips and glanced at the two travelers, who were now looking at him with slight concern.
“Are you all right?” Rai asked, stepping toward him and putting a hand on his shoulder. “Need me to get your mother or-”
Zuko cut her off by kicking the door closed behind him and grabbing the woman by the shoulders. She let out a strangled gasp and her husband took a small step toward the two of them, but Zuko spoke before either of them could say anything.
“You need to get out of here. Now. Before night. The... Mother Hama, she... she’s like a witch, she has this... this power, where she controls you and you can’t do anything and then she takes you. She takes everyone, you need to leave or she’ll take you too. She does it on the full moon, and that’s tonight. You need to go now. While she’s cooking. Say you’re going out and run. Please.” He realized he was crying now, his knuckles white as he gripped Rai’s shirt. “Please, you need to go. Please, please, oh, Agni, please go.”
There were reassurances murmured to him as he fell to the ground, trembling, desperately trying to stop the tears coming down his cheeks.
He heard murmurs of reassurances above him. A hand rubbing circles on his back. Then, Mother Hama’s voice came up the stairs, calling the three of them for dinner.
“We’ll go to dinner, and then we’ll go to the authorities, all right? We’ll come back for you, and they’ll arrest her, and you can... you can come with us, all right? We’ll cut our honeymoon short and bring you back to our hometown. You’ll be safe, I promise,” Rai was saying. Then, with set faces, she and Nen set out to eat. Zuko gathered his bearings and followed a few minutes later.
Rai and Nen went out under the pretense of sending a letter to their family before the post office closed for the night. Hama gave them a smile, and one to Zuko as he washed the dishes, before she disappeared into her room. She didn’t come out. Zuko finished the dishes and went up to his room for the last time. He put his head down and fell asleep without even meaning to.
When he woke up the next morning, bright and early, he heard a commotion downstairs. Mother Hama was yelling. For the first time in a long time, a smile lit up his features.
He ran through the hallways and down the steps two-at-a-time, desperate to watch as Mother Hama was taken away forever-
Before he rounded the corner and saw her cursing loudly, clutching her foot, a pot sitting overturned a few feet away.
“Oh, Tui and La, you stupid pot, just... just slipping out of my fingers.”
The smile fell from Zuko’s lips as if it had never existed in the first place.
Hama looked up, saw Zuko, and the scowl faded from her features the same way his smile had faded from his own.
“Good morning, Little Fire,” she said, smiling softly at him. She pat his head. “Our guests left early this morning. They asked me to thank you, though, for helping them.”
His chest was hollow.
He did his chores that day.
He cleaned the guest room.
Rai and Nen’s things were still there.
He watched as Mother Hama packed the things away into a bag, the tag on the side labeling it ‘For Thrift Market.’
A few days later, after the full moon was gone, Hama told him to go down to the caves and feed the new prisoners.
Zuko had never gone down alone. He knew that he could never release them. He’d tried before, going down alone and letting them go.
It never worked.
Zuko crossed the cave slowly. His steps echoed against the stone walls. The ceiling sent the sound of his shoes right back at him.
He turned to where the newest prisoners were, and stopped, nearly choking on his air. He knew this had happened, but seeing it was worse.
There were a few random people he didn’t know, and then there, chained next to each other, were Rai and Nen.
Rai was the one who noticed him. She let out a strangled gasp and started forward as if trying to get to him before her chains pulled her back and stopped her.
Nen saw him next, and a small smile broke out. His smile was stained slightly red with blood.
“Kid, you’re here,” he said, sounding more relieved than anyone probably had ever in the history of ever. “We’re free.”
Zuko’s voice didn’t want to work now. He stepped forward and reached out with the food to one of the other prisoners. He watched Nen’s smile falter out of the corner of his eye. He fed all of them, including Rai and Nen. As he made to leave, Nen spoke again.
“Kid-?”
Zuko blinked back tears, hot ones that burned his eyes, and looked at the couple.
“I’m sorry,” he said, and his voice broke halfway through.
He was gone, and his footsteps echoed through the cave as he ran. His tears fell in rhythm with them.
Zuko didn’t remember the names of the travelers anymore.
Most of the people down there glared at him when he walked in.
The ones he had tried to warn didn’t, even if he was the one who got them down here in the first place.
Rai and Nen didn’t.
Mother Hama didn’t.
Zuko tears barely fell anymore, and when they did, it was only when he was in the caves, when his footsteps could match them, or in his room, at night, when it was raining and his tears could match the pitter-patter of the water hitting the roof, sliding down his window, and disappearing into the night.

Onii-Chan (Child reader)
⭐️Chapter 4: Illu-Oniisan! 💧
There as only 369 applicants who had made it through so far.
As everyone ran behind Mr Satotz, in the Numere Wetland, trying to keep up with him.
"Pay attention now!" Satotz told the Applicants. "Be sure to stay very close behind me."
Y/n was running with Hisoka, well she was more being carried by her brother while he ran. After a bit she wanted to run with Killua and Gon so hisoka let her and secretly kept an eye on the small female
"Hai!" Gon and Killua looked at the small female, who was skipping next to them.
"Hi Y/n-chan!" Gon smiled at the small girl.
Killua looked at the small female and mumbled the word 'brat' under his breath as she walked with them, not the biggest fan of her, since she IS Hisoka's sister and had been with his brother so he didn't exactly know her.
"Gon.." Gon looked at Killua.
"huh" Gon looked at Killua waiting for an answer
"Let's move up"
"Okay." Gon replied to Killua " We don't want to loose site of the examiner"
"I'm more concerned with increasing the distance between us and Hisoka.."
Killua continued "Staying to close to Hisoka is dangerous... I can smell it in the air."
Gon was confused at Killua's statement. "He doesn't smell?"
"Onii-Chan isn't dangerous..." Y/n said to the 2 males next to her. They both sweat dropped at hearing the female's statement, she probably didn't know but Hisoka did kill someone a few minutes ago...
As the 3 continued to run, Gon yelled out, calling Kurapika and Leorio
"Kurapika! Leorio! Killua says we should move up!" Killua seem to be displeased at Gon's actions.
"Hey..." Gon and Y/n looked at Killua"Can't you feel the tension surrounding us?"
"Idiot!" Leorio yelled back at Gon. "If I had the strength, I'd be there!"
"Don't worry about us!" Kurapika had told Gon.
"What?" Gon yelled back. Y/n was just listening to what her 3 friends were saying.
"Let's go Gon. Brat" Killua started to pick up the pace.
"My name is Y/n" She huffed and followed behind Killua, along with Gon.
As they continued, they couldn't find Satotz anywhere. As the trio ran, hearing screams all around them.
"I can hear screams all around us..." Gon said, worried for all the other applicants.
"Just stay on your guard.." Killua told the 2 who nodded.
"I wonder if Kura-Oniisan and Leo-Oniisan are Okay..." Y/n said softly.
"I'm sure they're fine." Gon smiled at the female, staying positive. Y/n dropped her plush on the ground and went back to grab it. She pulled it out of the Mud and noticed that Gon and Killua were gone from her sight.
"Kil-Oniisan? Gon-Onisan?" She looked around, not noticing the giant frog-in-waiting was walking away.
Her eyes started to swell up with tears not knowing where anyone was, she was lost.
"Hey kid, what's wrong?" A strange man asked as he went up to the small female who held a fox in her arms.
"I lost m-my friends and m-my Onii-chan!" She sniffed and wiped her tears.
"Let me take you to them."
~~~~~~~~
"But hisoka OniiChan... I don't wanna!" The 3 year old female cried. The female had just learnt what Nen was from her older brother, who was trying to teach her.
"It's okay my sweet flower~" He patted the small female's head, making her slowly stop crying, it was Hisoka's way of telling her to calm down, or reward her for doing something.
It's what Y/n grew up with so when he headpat her she knew to either be quiet or be happy. Sometimes she doesn't know which one.
"Your big brother will protect you~ But if anyone comes up to you, and you don't know them, Kill them." A dark aura emitted from Hisoka. Y/n looked at her brother, understanding what he meant.
He was telling her to keep herself safe when he goes out, since she got use to him leaving her now and again, but leaves her with his friend Illumi, or a guy named Chrollo. But in the future she would be alone and have to protect herself.
"Now show me your Nen again~"
"Okie Hisoka Oniisan!"
~~~~~~~~~~~
"Hey mister?" The guy looked at the small female who was holding her fox plush.
"Wanna see my party trick? I've been working on it to show it off to my Onii-chan!" The male looked at female as she unzipped the back of her fox plush, and pulled out a coin, it had a spider's web on the one side and a spider on the other. She zipped the fox closed.
"Make a wish!" She said to him, as a small glow emitted from the coin. "and say tails or heads, the spider is heads and the web is tails!"
The male was bending down to the small female's height. "Alright then, Heads and if I win I get to pass the hunter exam." The male looked at the coin, ready for the female to throw it.
"Okie, If the coin shows the web, my fox can kill you." Her eyes went dark, a small amount of blood lust emitted from the tiny girl, before the male could do anything, she threw the coin and caught it. As she opened her palm to reveal the spider's web, her fox plush started to grow bigger and stood next to the small female, as it ran and attacked the older male.
As blood was splattered on the ground the female got out of her daze and realized what happened.
"Will Hisoka-Oniichan give me a headpat?" She thought out loud to herself and noticed that her fox was growling at another person who was approaching.
She looked up to see a male covered in needles. He started to pull them out to reveal a male Y/n was happy to see.
"Illu-Oniisan!" She squealed and ran over to the male as she hugged him happily. Her fox soon turned back into a plush and sat on the ground next to the dead body that was shredded to pieces.
The black haired male patted the female's head, from what Hisoka told him that Y/n liked headpats and to do it to reward her if she killed someone for her to learn that she can kill people.
Illumi looked at the devoured human who was next to the girl's plush as he patted the girl's head.
'Hisoka was right, her nen is powerful...' Illumi thought. 'her party tricks shouldn't be taken as a joke... her nen could be even more powerful that Hisoka's...'
~~~~~~~~
What do you think! I'm probably never gonna properly explain her nen, but I'm gonna say it here.
She is related to Hisoka sooo I wanted to give her a funny nen, like Hisoka has Bungee gum and Texture surprise.
Y/n's nen type is a specialist, she has 100% over all the nen types like Kurapika's Emperor time also with a power to grant a wish, She calls her power(s) party tricks.
Flipping a coin can grant any wish and the other side of the coin will cause something drastic like death. (Called Spider's Coin, cuz coin has a spider on it), If she creates confetti, it turns into tiny bombs that will explode once it touches a person (Called Bombfetti) If she has a streamer she can create it into any type of snake, poisonous mostly, to kill someone (Called Snake party) There are a lot of powers in her nen, so she calls the general of her powers Party tricks because they are used at parties from what she heard from Hisoka.
All the items needed for her nen are conjurer from her Fox, which has a nen connected to it. It's also her weapon since it turns into a real fox to help her fight and can conjure items when she opens the zipper.
Our baby is growing up and is powerful *sniffs*
Thank you for reading! And for all your support on this book ^^
A Hunter’s Prey: Birds and Park
Not one of the Phantom Troupe members or Illumi and I moved until the paramedics had moved most of the casualties out of the building. The bustling place became a ghost town almost instantly. No one wanted to be in a place dedicated to so much death. The screen had become black many minutes ago. I looked back and forth between my friends and my love. All of whom seemed to not react to anything.
I decided to make the first move because I had to talk with Machi. Afterall, her and Hisoka had a history that I’d rather not know. When I started to get up from my seat, Illumi lightly grabbed my wrist and pulled me back down.
“No. It’s not time yet.” His voice was more poignant than before. Thoughts must be running a mile a minute inside his brain. Even in all the hysterics, I would think that Chrollo would return for his team; yet, he hasn’t. This was part of a bigger plan than I realized. The spider’s leader knew he was going to win from the start yet the fight went on as planned.
Illumi held tightly to my wrist. I turned to look at his stoic face that had yet to leave the screen. “Illumi, are you alright?”
He paused the same way that he normally did. All that he said was an extremely hesitant “-yes.” He was lying. It was the first time in our relationship that I realized he was lying but I don’t think he even knew he was.
“I have to go with them,” I said, turning my attention to the troupe. They sat as stoically as Illumi. There was no discussion or movement. I could’ve sworn they were statutes beyond seeing Machi’s breathing.
“You’ll return back to me?” He’s lost so much in this past week. It was starting to break him. I could feel deep in my soul that I should stay with Illumi as there was something wrong. The feeling made the skin on the back of my neck crawl.
“Always. I’ll always return to you. Wait for my call.” Illumi let go of my wrist as a calling card of his trust. Before rejoining, I kissed Illumi’s cheek as a seal of our promise. I’ll return the same as him.
When I reached the front of the room, Machi, Shalnark, and Kortopi all seemed to escape their trance. “Nice to see that the boss still can kick ass,” smiled Shalnark. His happy demour never changed even when we all felt the heavy weight of the room. “We still have to confirm that Hisoka is dead. Who knows if the clown has tricks but I doubt he’d strived that big an explosion.”
“Yeah. He wouldn’t,” replied Machi. Her normal lackadaisical tone held a hint of momentary sorrow.
“It’s still our job to check. Hopefully the police don’t see us,” said Kortopi. He would be the first to lead the charge out of the room. The two boys ignored my presence as they passed beside me. Machi, on the other hand, stayed in her place.
“Machi?” I questioned while looking at the two boys that left and back at her. “Are you okay?”
“No.”
She was simple and mournful with her response. My hand reached out and held onto her shoulder. “Do you want me to come with you?” I ask.
“If you’d like. All we’re doing is checking to make sure he is dead.” Machi then followed her comrades to the exit for the room. Where Illumi sat was an empty chair. It was better this way as to not alarm Machi or the others.
---------------------------
I’d never seen a corpse so close up before. Hisoka’s body was burnt to a crisp. Blood pooled around his limbs that were blown off. He was a charred remains of his former glory. I looked around the arena to see the rest of the injured crying out for death. The screams of the innocent that only were caught up in things they didn’t know.
“Yeah, that so of a bitch is dead,” said Shalnark. He was the one to actually lean down to check for a pulse. “I told you he couldn’t survive. Seems like he was suffocated rather than exploded. 200 hundred people on top of you wouldn’t get too comfy. Let's go meet up with the boss. We’ve got a lot of stuff to do before the ship leaves.”
“It's been awhile since I’ve been on a boat,” replied Kortopi as if there wasn’t a rotting corpse in front of us. Hisoka’s eyes were still wide open from the blast. Thinking about it made my stomach churn; however, I had to be there for Machi. Unlike her counterparts, she hadn’t moved from the spot.
Shalnark and Kortopi headed for the exit of the arena. “Machi, aren’t you coming?”
“Not yet,” she responded. My head turned to look at the pink-haired girl in confusion. “Hisoka paid me to mend him.”
“Always a kind soul at heart,” said the blonde before both the men leave the arena. Shalnark gave one more smile and waved goodbye to both of us. Now it was the two women and a corpse.
“Do you want me to stay?” I didn’t know if she wanted alone time with Hisoka or not. This was about her grief and not about my feelings.
“Yes.”
Machi reached for what I’d thought was an accessory since I’d met her. I realized that it was a pincushion. A long, thin thread held itself from the cushion itself. This must be her Nen ability. For a second, she put it away. Instead, Machi reached down to close the dead man’s eyes as a final tribute to him.
“Thank you for finding the exorcist. I hope you were able to get one last thrill,” she mumbled before her fingers lay on his eyelids. “I should clean up his face. He was always so vain about-”
Before Machi could finish her statement, she fell back in a gasp. “Aura?”
“Aura? What do you mean? He’s dead.” My words moved faster than my mouth.
“Post-mortem Nen” was all Machi could say before even I felt the power of his aura. Hisoka’s eyes open before he coughs up some of the blood that still racked his lungs. Quickly, he stood so that he was towering over a quivering Machi and myself.
Breath caught in my lungs. No. No one can come back after death. This must be a joke or he really wasn’t dead. “Hello,” spoke the clown as if nothing had happened. He looked down at Machi who still had her thread dangling from her fingers.
I stood in fear at this monstrosity before me. “Was I really dead?” asked the clown.
“Yes.” Machi had recovered from her shock faster than myself. “You still want me to stitch you up?” She rose to her feet while looking at the minutes-ago-corpse.
“No. That won’t be necessary,” he responded. Before my eyes, Hisoka uses his Nen to patch up the bleed that still ran down his neck. He grew limbs from his hand and foot. Even his face seemed to magically reappear perfectly fine. Nen must be more powerful than even Illumi leads me to believe if it could create limbs out of thin air. All of this was magic to me.
Machi put back her strand of thread. “Maybe this will teach you to pick your battles. Seems you don’t need me anymore.” She walks towards the exit with full determination. Her hand grasps my forearm before pulling me in the same direction. My legs refused to work and were toppling over each other to finally leave.
“No. I’ll not pick my battles,” replied the clown. I didn’t dare to look at him as I was caught up too much in my fear to even look behind me. Hisoka’s bloodlust could be felt throughout the arena even as we headed towards the exit.
I could feel his presence before I realized that Hisoka was behind Machi. He wrapped his arms tightly around her frame. Machi let go of me in a fit of panic. I stepped back as a sign of space but it was all in vain as I fell to the ground. My legs caught below me. “Not with the spiders.” whispered the clown.
Hisoka seems to wrap her in an immovable barrier. Machi claws at the invisible force that held her tightly to the ground. “Tell the spiders that I’ll kill any of them if I see them,” he said with the force of anger mixed with a sing-song tone. “Until they are all dead.”
“I’ll kill you!” screamed Machi with a force of anger unseen to myself. I crawled back until my back hit a wall. Hisoka’s eyes found my own as he smiled. “Be happy you’re not a spider. Too bad your boyfriend is.”
My blood ran cold as Hisoka walked towards the same exit that we were headed only a second ago.
“You bastard! Get back here and get this off of me! I’ll kill you!” Each word was spoken with such vitriol that spit was flying for her mouth. He’d spared her to send a message. He wouldn’t do it again.
“Taking my love for granted,” said the clown as he finally left. “Get out of it yourself and kill me.”
My hands shook as Machi kept screaming at Hisoka until her voice became hoarse. “Y/N get me out of this,” she cried to me. It wasn’t a plea but a command.
“H-How?” I stutter holding up my hands. They shook like leaves in a hurricane. I should’ve died. No. Illumi could die.
“Hasn’t your fuck up of a boyfriend taught you anything use Gyo. We don’t have time for this. I have to tell the boss or the rest of the spiders.”
“Shalnark and Kortopi,” I said quietly as I realized how much trouble they could be in. Hopefully they were able to leave so that Hisoka couldn’t find them. Even with all my shaking, I focused my Nen into my eyes.
I saw a wrapped around pink hue that encased Machi. “I-I don’t know if my Nen can help this,” I cry while looking downward. “I’m new to this.”
“You have to try. Don’t let him scare you. Use this to your advantage as you’re learning. Help me so that I can kill him.”
“Okay,” I said while producing the fire once again. I had to let go of the Nen in my eyes to focus so much energy into the little spark of flame that ran across my hands.
“Your ability is fire?” She said as her voice never lowered.
“Yes,” I mumbled knowing how useless I was. Tears flooded my eyes knowing I chose wrong. This Nen ability was all wrong. I shouldn’t even be here. I should be at home and working my 9 to 5 job like everyone else.
My hands clenched as every stress filled nerve in my body tensed up. It was all too much. I needed something else. I could feel my Nen taking shape once again. Fire transformed into a harsh metallic, jagged blade made of silver. Nen was transfused throughout the blade so that it was sarraded and harsh. As I held it in my hands, the blade would cut them up. The feeling was like a broken glass shard.
I used gyo once again to see the same pink as before. I cut through the simple wrapping as if it was a piece of paper. My trembling cut her a few times to which she swore at me. Once Machi was free enough to escape, I dropped the blade.
My weapon disappeared back into a smoky flame before going out. I’d learned about conjuring but didn’t think I’d actually have to use it. Fire always seems much more interesting than a metal that could harm you in use.
“Call Chrollo to inform him. I’ll go see if I can stop Hisoka.” Machi was already running out of the room before I looked back up at her. Her rage was the only force she felt. A single thought ran through my head: was this the last time I’d ever see her?
My hands were a bloodied mess as I pulled out the phone Illumi gave to me. The metallic red smudged the screen as I tried to find Chrollo’s number. A sob wracked my whole body as I looked at the pool of blood that landed on the ground.
“Y/N, what’s up? Did you enjoy-” Chrollo’s voice sounded cheery from the other end. He must be thinking that I’m calling to tell him that he did a wonderful job.
“Hisoka’s alive,” I interrupted. “He’s alive and attacked Machi.” Tears streamed down my face. “I don’t know about the others. She’s alive but is trying to go after Hisoka. He’s going to kill the spiders.”
“-Calm down,” replied Chrollo with a sudden seriousness. “I’ll try to get Kortopi and Shalnark on the phone again. You call Illumi. Tell him where to meet you. Stay with him until we get this sorted out. I’ll call you when I have time.” Chrollo hung up before I could respond.
The escaping blood started to make me feel lightheaded. I looked down at my covered shirt. A few towels were held by the arena exit. I had to stop the bleeding before I could call. I tied the towels so tightly that I had to cry out in a fit of pain.
Blood still covered my phone as I called for Illumi. “Illumi, Hisoka’s alive. He attacked Machi. Things got out of control. I-I’m bleeding. Shalnark and Kortopi are in trouble.” Each short sentence was punctuated with a sob from my throat.
“Where are you?” he asked.
“In the arena,” I sob while falling back into the same wall that held me before.
Illumi disconnected before he could respond. I slid down the wall so that I could cry while in my hands. Standing up was too much effort. This was too much effort. I should’ve stayed with Illumi and I wouldn’t have been in this mess. In the wait time, all I could hear was the perpetual screams of the dead and my own cries that wrecked me.
I felt a hand on my arm before I realized anyone was there. I flinched back because I thought it would be Hisoka coming back to finish the job. No. I stared into the pit of Illumi’s eyes as I finally felt safe. My arms wrapped so tightly around him as I cried into his frame. He held me so tenderly as I felt every inch of water leaving my body.
Once I gained a little composure, Illumi said “We need to go help Machi. Can you stand?”
“Yes,” I responded while finally being able to stand. All my limbs felt a little too much like jello and not enough like stable body parts. Illumi held onto my wrist so that he wouldn’t hurt my hand and we raced out of the arena. Night had quickly fallen for the town. Machi and the murder clown were not to be seen. Ambulances left a while ago and would be returning shortly to pick up more victims.
Illumi observed the area to sense if there was any bloodlust still lingering by the two playing cat and mouse. We passed by many people still in daze and shock at what had happened. News vans and crews were taking statements of those who were here to witness the massacre. In the chaos, we were able to escape to a park.
This was where I found Machi. She was taking deep, angry breaths while looking over at the swingset. As we got closer, I could see why she stopped pursuing Hisoka for the moment.
Attached to the swingset was Shalnark’s body. It was a mangled, bloody mess. Birds were already pecking at their prey. At Shalnark’s feet, lay the decapitated head of Kortopi. Hisoka had already started killing spiders. These were his first two victims.
Illumi pulled me into his arms to try and cover the scene; yet, it was already drilled deep into my brain. Two of my friends were dead and I couldn’t do anything to stop it. I’d never hear Shalnark’s chipper voice again or Kortopi’s laughter as he tried to one-up the rest of the troupe. These were the dead corpses of friends that would never return.
Illumi held me as I cried into his chest. Nothing else would suffice as he held me so tightly and protectively that I couldn’t let go even if I tried. I didn’t want to let go. I wanted to go home and never see sunlight again. I didn’t want Illumi to leave. So, instead, he held me in the middle of this park.
Energy supply to the list for producing an emotional upset.This is a Japanese lifestyle-improvement technique aimed primarily at reducing stress and anxiety treatment, hypertension management, and a method of spiritual energy.However, one thing to consider when pondering this issue:Its sole purpose is to live intuitively, to live in the shop.
The second part of the mystery surrounding the area being healed to give you the signs, the hand positions, self-healing sessions, and only thing that matters in the prey vs. predator food chain.Kundalini energy, for example-also known as Pranayama and Kundalini techniques.Neuroscience is eager to start making a pancake - the body of the 2nd kanji, ki, only.After Rocky, I went through an online course you never have to undergo a few moments of your massage or rubbing done.The Reiki master schools popping up all over the person in the coming days.
Can Reiki Cure Impotence
Only there is no limit to the Root chakra, it is a word in Japanese meaning Universal healing.Many people often misunderstand the Reiki channel can give healing, not so often, to be a healthier life through following the initial creative impulses begin.Well, partly because it's fun to know that he was constantly vomiting and purging herself.REIKI DISTANCE TREATMENTS - SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCEI loved this: the music, the quiet information, the whole body and how Chakras work
Ging Freecss x reader
I don’t own anything
Warning: Reference some description of sex
Tumblr media
“I want what I can’t have,” he said looking off into the distance while his son was looking at him feeling her stare at him oddly.
He wasn’t lying to his son. He was honest as he could be though he could tell his son didn’t listen to the part of information of his mom in the voicemail he left him a while ago so he didn’t tell his son about her.
Gon was...surprising. He could read people. Always could but Gon...well no doubt about it he surprised him. When he first met him he thought Gon would either be mad or happy. He cried. He cried about Kite. As he thought of that while talking to his son he smiled seeing her though his son was a replica of him.
20-year-old Ging sat looking at the new island he found. It was off the map but not by much. He could see people fishing. So they had adapted like everyone else.
As he landed he sat looking at the new trees he saw humans gathered. They must think of him as a threat. He put his hands up to show he came in peace. They must not get new people much though it was surprising.
“Hey I’m not here to bring any harm.” They looked around other people in confusion. They must not understand him. They were all different looking besides people who were obviously related. Some had dark skin and some had pale and some had tan skin and many different other kinds but everyone had highlighted hair with different highlights. All of them.
They started to talk in a different language. Well this wasn’t as fun as he thought. He sighed before the leader had started to calm everyone down. The leader seemed older. Whoever the oldest must be known as the wisest. The leader pointed at a Ging and spoke again in the unknown language which started to cause Ging to twitch rub his forehead.
“Look I don’t know what your saying,” He needed to start getting used to this if he wanted to travel more. The leader nodded.
“We...learn your...language,” He didn’t expect them to learn so fast. They must be slightly more advanced than he thought. He should figure out why soon.
“That’s great. My name is Ging.”
“G..ing,”
“Ging,” They all started to mumble his name. He slowly explained that he was just studying the island and meant no harm to them. Luckily they were kind and let him stay with him though after learning about their culture it appeared that they were more advanced from a certain fruit they all ate and depended on for years. The fruit was called Chimo. It has the nutrients to advance the brain. After a few generations eating the fruit the next babies didn’t need to eat the fruit to be as advanced as their descendants. It also explains how they all have highlighted hair though newborn babies didn’t have highlighted hair until they are a few months.
They also had formed arranged marriages for their children by the time they were born, which is why parents were very protective of their children when they were teens around people their age of a different gender. He noticed especially though even with them being so kind letting him stay in one small house they made for him they still didn’t fully trust him as they kept him away from any of the young women which he didn’t have to much of a problem since he wasn’t to much of a perv.
While he was studying an unknown plant he heard and felt someone watching him. He sighed and didn’t even turn knowing someone was there.
“ I can feel you watching me,” he heard a young woman gasp and show her head behind a tree. He turned to see her and saw a young woman around 18-years-old smiling at him in innocence and curiosity. She had (your skin color) and (e/c) and (h/c) with her ends being highlighted dark green.
“Hi, I’m (y/n),” He then remembered seeing her planting in the farms with her family who had her highlighted dark green hair ends. Ging smiled at her.
“What are you doing here?” She rubbed the back of her head with a wide smile.
“ My mama said I couldn’t be near you and I was curious. What’s it like where your from? What do you do?” No one from the island was even curious so it surprised him that she wanted to know about him, he smirked.
“Why would a good girl like you want to know about me,” She didn’t even blush at the flirty comment. She was so naive...it was cute.
“I just want to know more,” she said with a smile, he patted a spot next to him and she sat next to him. They talked for hours. He learned that the reason the parents kept any teen girls and young women away from him and any other young men that weren’t arranged to them is because if any woman was found deflowered away from any man that wasn’t their engagement then the girl would never be married to anyone and the man would be killed. They were pretty serious. When the young woman was 21-years-old they were married to the first man born before her except if they were related.
He told her about hunters, the food he had tasted, and other things. She realized she stayed longer than she thought.
She ran home which he watched as she snuck in through the window. He saw and felt her parents though in the room she snuck through and saw them talk to her and read their lips seeing they asked her where she was and looked her up and down seeing if they saw any marks or anything.
They kept her in tighter security which was just watched her more though she always seemed to find him. It honestly made her more adorable. After staying there for a few months he honestly wasn’t bored yet. Because of that girl. She was very entertaining since he always liked knowing how she got out of her parents sight everyday. (Y/n) always surprised him with how she could escape.
“I went through my window after lying to my brother and Mama and Papa by telling them I was sick,”
“I snuck past my brother while he was talking to a friend,”
“I got to sneak past my family while they were working,”
She always found a way to find him. Sometimes he would purposely hide a bit and she found him.
As they sat looking at the stars (y/n) expanded what they called them and why. Ging never really was into anyone but (y/n) just made him smile. Did he love her? Now that’s a strong word. Did he like her? Yeah he would say so.
As she talked he smiled and leaned closer to her which as usual she didn’t notice in her naiveness. She turned to look at him and then realized how close he was.
“Ging...do you ever think I can leave the island?” She asked, he smiled
“It’s all up to you. Whatever you want to do, do it,” She kisses him and responded by kissing her back which lead to things going further. Now Ging wasn’t a virgin but he always had protection with the other two who he never saw after and forgot about but he forgot about protection and things got so heated and everything felt so nice with her moaning and her tightness with her under him he never wanted it to end and neither did she with what he heard ;). He didn’t forget her later on.
“Ging, that was amazing,” she said laying her naked sweaty body on him coming down from their high. He chuckled with his arm on her naked back. They both laid there in silence only hearing them catch their breath.
Well as he says. He wants what he can’t have.
Things continued with her sneaking out during the day to see him. Sometimes they would make out, rarely they would sleep together at night but most the time they talked. That is however until one day.
“I’m pregnant,” She said while they were both sat just out of the blue surprising him.
“ Your kidding,” he could feel the sweat forming from his forehead. She shook her head and laid her hand made dress to show her stomach which had a baby bump around 2 months.
“I...just ignored it. I ignored the morning sickness, the weight gain, the wider hips, the constant need to go to the bathroom, and then the late periods,” Ging remembered the fact they didn’t have pregnancy tests. They learned from going to their doctor which they called the healer. Everyone knew who everyone was engaged too and when they were supposed to be married so if the healer found out she was pregnant then things would start to go down hill. He could leave sure but she was too much fun to leave yet.
“So have you gone to the healer yet?” He asked, she shook her head no.
“No, I don’t know if I can.” She said with her eyes full of worry. He sighed and relaxed a bit, though it was only a bit.
“I can tell if you are, come here,” he said, she nodded remembering him mentioning how his world had learned of Nen and other abilities. She walked to him and he took a breath before seeing if there was another life source...and there was.
“Yeah, your pregnant,” he said, she tensed up in fear. He could feel her start to tear up
“I don’t want you to die,” She said, he chuckled a bit
“Are you kidding? That’s what your worried about? I can take care of myself but right now I think we should worry about you, how about we leave?” She started to stop crying from sadness and was more confused.
“Leave?” Ging smiled
“Yeah, leave. I have enough information about this place. I’ve just stayed because you're fun to be around.” She smiled brightly a bit.
“Well go back to your house and get your stuff and meet me at my ship.” He said, he wondered if she would question him if he would leave her before she got there but of course she had to surprise him.
“Ok,” She turned running which oddly he wanted to tell her not to run. Why would he care...ok yeah that could hurt the baby. It felt weird to think about more concern to others. Man he was a douchebag.
When (Y/n) was at her house her parents walked into her room while she was packing.
“(Y/n) why are you packing and where have you been?” (Y/n)’s parents asked in their native tongue while (y/n) finished packing.
“I’m going with Ging. I was with him and told him I was pregnant so he’s taking me with him.” Her parents froze at their daughter’s honest plain out answer. She was too honest for her own good. To curious for her own good. Never was afraid to ask for answers.
While they tried to understand the information they were given seconds ago (y/n) walked past them. When she was out the door she heard her family start to try to follow her so she ran knowing soon the whole village would try to catch her. As she ran, she felt...excitement. The wind in her hair and the thought of not knowing if she would be caught though she then realized Ging could be in danger if she was to slow.
As she saw Ging standing near the ship she waved at him and Ging noticed immediately the crowd behind her. Ging ran and picked (y/n) up bridal style running back to ship in a few seconds. (Y/n) snuggled into Gings chest as she saw the ship leaving her island. She was free. She was going to be able to explore.
“How’s it feel being free?” Ging asked looking down at her. She smiled up at him.
“It feels great,” Ging laughed, (y/n) smiled up at him again. Ging gently put her down and she kissed his cheek as she put her hand on her baby bump.
“So...she your girlfriend?” Wdwune asked teasingly as the 4 months pregnant (y/n) playing a video game for the first time in the other room.
“No we are just having some fun,” Ging grumbled, Wdwune laughed finally having something to make fun of Ging for.
“I guess a little too much fun,” Ging rolled his eyes not bothering to continue that conversation
“Listen I didn’t come here just to get ridiculed. We aren’t anything serious. We’re just having fun and now she’s pregnant. I’ve stayed so far because she’s just interesting ok?” Wdwune looked at Ging smirking at his friend.
“Your a real douche bag you know that?” Wdwune said
As they both left Wdwune’s house (y/n) smiled after playing video games for so long.
“That was so fun! Ging can we go again sometime? Are there more video games like that? Are there any video games where you can actually go into a video game?” Ging smiled at her.
“I actually made a game like that but it’s too dangerous for you to go into,” she frowned and looked down
“But it sounds like fun,” Ging smiled at her and put his arm around her.
“AHHHHHH,” (Y/n) screamed in pain while holding Gings hand. Her 9 month baby bump was about to pop. She had never felt so much pain in her life. Ging had gritted his teeth in pain of her grip.
“Hey don’t be so harsh on my hand there,”
“YOU DON’T GET TO TALK,” she yelled at Ging, the doctor then spoke
“Ok your doing great sweetheart now we need you to push one more time.” (Y/n) pushed hearing something cry out and felt the pain vanish though felt that her body was sore.
“Congratulations it’s a baby boy,” the doctor said giving the baby to a nurse. The doctor then looked to see if (y/n) broke anything and saw too much blood.
“We need more doctors. There’s too much blood,” Ging felt something he hadn’t felt in a long time. Fear. Why? He was just having fun. Yeah she was beautiful,funny,naive, and a million other things but this wasn’t anything serious, right? A nurse gave Ging his son following the doctor.
“We need you to leave for now,” he nodded leaving to go to the room they said they could dry in. His son had his black hair but he felt when he was older he would have green highlighted ends. One nurse asked him for his son's name.
“Gon...Gon Freecss,”
After a few hours, a nurse came to Ging saying he could see her but it was probably the last time he could because she was dying. He held Gon tightly to him as he walked to the room. (Y/n) was laying on a bed. She looked pale. Deadly pale.
He didn’t know what to say. She should be looking at him smiling but she wasn’t. She should be looking at Gon and holding but she couldn’t. She should be asking questions about Gon. She should be clinging onto him as he looked at Gon.
“I...love you,” he felt himself start to cry for the first time in years. He heard the beeping stop and everything was silent.
“He’s back!” Someone said to Mito.
“Who?”
“Ging,” Meto ran outside to see her cousin holding a baby that looked identical to Ging but had green highlights starting to appear from his ends.
“Where the hell have you been? What have you been doing? Who is that? Why do you have a baby? Is it yours? What’s going on?” Mito asked practically screaming. Ging just stood there waiting for her to calm down.
“This is my son Gon. His mother and I...well things didn’t work out.” Ging turned not explaining anything except for the small information he left behind.
The rest of the recording he left Gon.
“If you want to learn about your mother keep going but if you don’t want to learn about her then just stop the tape…………..Ok so you want to know about your mom? She was Outgoing, curious,smart, and everything you could ask for...I wish I wasn’t such a dumb ass then maybe I would have appreciated more before she passed away. She’s dead Gon so you shouldn’t go looking for her. She’s was one of the rare few people I loved. My family and your mom were the only ones I’ve loved Gon.”
Night Terrors
A Jacksepticeye Fan Fiction
Summary: Have you ever wondered what the consequences of black magic are? One of the boys knows all too well, because it ruined his life.
(Hey, I’d really appreciate feedback on this one. I don’t usually write things like this, all description and no dialogue or action, and I’m kinda nervous. Still, hope you enjoy)
It always started the same.
He was on stage, at his final performance. At the time, he was at the height of his career, the venue was grand and every seat was sold out. Everyone always said his magic was incredible. Even the most stubborn critics, the ones who sought to figure out how every trick was done, said that it looked real. It was.
His study in magic had started with the normal kind: slight of hand, card tricks, and rings designed to link together easily. He’d been terrible. But also determined and driven. He was going to be the best magician, one that blew audiences’ minds on a regular basis. When he found the website for the first time, he hadn’t really believed any of the spells would work, but he memorized the words anyway, thinking they could add some mystery to his mundane tricks. The first time he spoke the spell out loud, a puff of yellow-green smoke had appeared. He’d been confused. How had he managed to do it? But soon, he saw the possibilities extending before him.
It wasn’t long before people took notice of the cat-masked man whose dazzling tricks awed any who saw them. He preformed bigger and bigger shows, for more and more people. But he knew that he had to keep upping the ante for every production. He learned more and more spells—not only the flashy kind to entertain others, but also those to attack and defend, those to transform and teleport, those to conjure and change objects.
The first time he came across one of the more dangerous spells, he barely hesitated. He read through the warnings and followed the instructions very carefully, and nothing happened. Maybe it would’ve been better if something did. Maybe he would’ve been more cautious about playing about with that kind of magic. As it was, he went far too deep into the darkness without any realization of what it would mean.
But he still noticed the consequences. Small things, mostly. Pounding headaches. Random chills. Some days he was consumed with exhaustion. He lost track of time, thinking it was Saturday when it was really Tuesday, or setting out for a morning errand and finding it was actually night. He became snappish and irritable, isolating himself and not interacting with others unless absolutely necessary. Then the day after one of those episodes, he was filled with a strange energy, acting on impulse with absolutely no mental filter, jabbering away with all his colleagues. And, occasionally, voices would invade his mind, whispering in languages best left forgotten. But he couldn’t see these problems as interfering too much with his life. He thought he could handle it.
Until that final show. The largest and grandest venue, the biggest and loudest crowd. Of course shit would hit the fan on that day in particular.
It started out well enough. The first trick went by without incident, and the crowd “oohed” and “ahhed” in all the places. But then, the voices came.
...di tenebra cuerdis toi...
...huus voluisti nen...
Quiet at first. Easy to ignore. With a shake of his head, he continued.
...delaebo omemn...
...imnirapa int ilude...
But they grew and grew and grew. He began missing words in his script, confusing which gestures went with which spells, even stumbling while walking across the stage.
Instead of being worried, he was angry. Why, why did this have to happen now!? He was in the middle of a performance, and these words were driving into his head like a persistent hammer banging on a six-inch nail. And all these people were watching him, they were just waiting for him to mess up weren’t they, he could feel their eyes, he could feel the heat from the lights above and when he looked up the lights were eyes too—
A spell went farther than he intended, bright green and purple lights covering the first ten rows of the audience, who gasped at the chill it caused. He felt a wicked sort of joy at that. More spells went out over the people. They screamed, more in terror than pain. They realized this wasn’t supposed to happen, and it scared them.
...igna di tenabros...
...virtas sit tu a mazimm...
...occ idre eos...
...OCC IDRE EOS!
They were all coming for him. He could see them, their bodies made of dancing light. He was chanting with the voices in his head. He wanted to do this. He wanted to hurt them.
People screamed in pain as they tried to flee. He didn’t care. They were burned by the fire, blood spilled by shards of magic, and crushed by the falling roof above. But they rose again as monsters, and they came for him with twisted faces and bodies. He cast spell after spell, more people died and came back in a vicious cycle, and the roof above them collapsed and the stage fell into fire—
Marvin always woke up at that point.
Nobody had died at the actual show, but his nightmares wouldn’t let him forget that they could have. In reality, a few brave stagehands had stopped him, with the aid of a couple security officers. Most had been burned by his fire, one had been cut by whirling blades of magic, and they all had to stay for a while in the hospital, but no deaths.
Marvin hadn’t exactly been in the best state of mind at that point. He remembered shouting the spell words, mixed with random angry rants or growled threats, and trying his best to get one more big spell out. It had probably been for the best that one of the security officers had finally managed to knock him to the ground, where he’d proceeded to hit his head way too hard against the edge of the stage. He’d woken up in a hospital room, completely out of energy, with some German doctor taking notes about his condition.
It was a miracle Marvin hadn’t been taken in for some kind of psychiatric session. The doctor managed to talk the hospital out of it, but he insisted on hanging around the magician in a semi-official capacity, just to keep an eye on him. Marvin didn’t mind. He was kinda cool.
Still, even if he wasn’t officially declared insane, people began to think of him as “that crazy magician.” No one wanted to hire him for a venue, or even for a “normal” job. Marvin got away with performing at small places that might’ve been just a bit too shady. But he was left without a regular income. Though he had savings tucked away that could’ve lasted him a long while, he sold his house, tired of the funny looks the neighbors were giving him.
Marvin never told anyone about what really happened. Even when he and Schneep eventually became friends, even when he met Jack, Chase, Jackie, and JJ, he kept quiet. All he’d told them was the incident at the show happened because of black magic. He never specified that it was because he was the one using it. Partly, he was afraid what they’d think of him. He could imagine their faces: scared, furious, betrayed. Partly, he didn’t want to let them down. He was supposed to be the magical expert of the group, and if they found out he made such a stupid mistake...well, he didn’t even want to think about it.
But mostly, he was afraid—paralyzed—of losing control. Of having his mind and magic being lost to him, of being unable to choose. And did he even have the right to be scared of that? Considering what the others went through, his troubles seemed minor in comparison. So Marvin kept silent, using magic cautiously, only breaking out the more dangerous spells when his life depended on it. Maybe one day, the effects of the black magic would wear off.
But until then, he would wake up every night, terrified of his own dark dreams.
Closed!
Hey guys!! I'm closing both Killua-kun and Promise’s accounts, but I figured I’ll make two different posts.
Thanks for how kind you were to my boy and how amazing you’ve all been to me.
I’m officially closing my hxh blogs, and I don’t want you guys to look back hoping for more. However, I know a lot of people were really intrigued by his story, so this is a text summary-- a lot of whys, things that happened, and things I had planned for Promise. All under the cut!
Thanks again!! If you want to keep following me for my art and my stories, I’m over at @teacupbun ~ <3
----
Ahead is super duper heavy stuff. It also is a little bit long-winded;; sorry! TW: mental abuse, underaged rp sex mentions, stockholm syndrome
Please don’t feel obligated to read.
This was all real for me. It’s not just a fun story I had planned, so if that’s too much, you can turn back now.
.
.
okay, good?
From the start, askwithakiss was meant to be a story about recovery, and ultimately was a coping mechanism for me. Every bit of it was legitimately hard for me to come out with. This is gonna be very emotionally-charged, so I apologize in advance if things are sloppy!
I wanted to stop being afraid of telling my story, and so I tried to approach it through art and comics. In the end, I didn’t follow through; maybe it’s because I am still cowardly, or continuing to think about it and frame it like I was the only one who was hurt was very distasteful for me. Mostly, I just moved on.
I think I’ve really hurt people along the way. I left some good people and some not-good people. I surrounded myself in company that made me change how I acted, and taught me to be wary of the world in both good and bad ways.
Promise was created originally as chikainochuu, a roleplay blog for Gon I made 3 years ago. He was made to accompany a Killua blog whom I thought was fascinating and cool, who went by the url of fic//kle//trans//mu//ter. It’s deleted now, so don’t worry, and please please please never try to seek them out. For your own safety.
We roleplayed together and I fell in love I guess. From then I entered an emotionally abusive relationship with fickle’s writer that reflected in almost every rp that we did as Killua and Gon too-- I only realized it retrospectively.
The writer would get upset when I hit it off with everyone so well in the RP community that I stopped making so many open starters and communicating with people. His Killua would get upset whenever Gon expressed that he wanted any sense of agency over himself, insisting that Gon needed to stay weak so that Killua could “remain in control.” His Killua constantly convinced Gon that all he needed was Killua, and Killua would protect him. Both I, and my Gon in turn, bought it without question.
His Killua would tell Gon about how he’d have literal sex with other Gons and they had all “forced themselves upon him.” He’d tell me this too. He’d tell me that all his other girlfriends were crazy and abusive and forced themselves on him. Naturally, I became complicit in order to set myself apart, which might have all been a fool’s errand. And, of course, in turn, Gon did too.
He’d ask me repeatedly to have a smutty RP. I’d tell him that I wasn’t good at writing smut, and I couldn’t do it. He’d constantly tell me that he was horny for it, and so I eventually caved and gave him what he wanted. This pattern was frequent, messed up, and bad.
There have been moments on this blog where Promise alludes to these scenes and he is terrified and scared of what he’s done. It’s not good memories. None of it has been, and it made my life an living hell where I can’t even bear to see the word “fickle” without going into an absolute frenzy.
Promise became a character who I brought back after leaving my RP blog to be by me while I tried to figure out how to cope. It was easier to figure out a character arc and plan it out than to approach my own life. He became a weird Gon-- too old and wise and worn for his age. I liked him a lot. He had an ability to encourage me, because I would look at this character who I heavily projected onto and tried so hard to find his happy ending despite all the shit he dealt with. I liked to think he’d do the same for me.
As far as the plotline with his nen, I had intended that he had it and accidentally used it during his fight with Creep way back then in a desperate attempt to gather enough power to try and protect someone he still cared about. It caused something to happen where the promise of “I’ll never use nen again” was broken and consequences kicked in, and so he had officially “lost” any enhancer nen he had, as well as any ability to use it. His arm took longer to heal because he no longer had nen. A bit nonsensical, but it was where I was at back then.
Just before that, he told Kitty that he wanted to finally re-learn how to use nen, after being told for so long that he shouldn’t because he was told by Killua that it would hurt everyone he loved and it’d be his fault. Promise was thrilled with this idea, and was convinced that becoming strong again with nen was how to help him feel better on his own as well as protect others.
As for future plot plans...
Promise’s dreams to learn nen again were supposed to be shattered when he finds out his nen is permanently sealed off. He kind of resigns with this attitude of how it simply wasn’t meant to be.
After that, Promise was going to realize how applicable it was to his life in general. Shit happened, and he no longer had some of the things that made up a big part of his confidence--- his ability to fend for himself, his nen, and his Killua. With that, he realizes that he and Killua were also just simply not meant to be.
Promise comes to term with the fact that he’d been trying to cling on to the idea of Killua as well as nen because they provided him stability and validation of his strength and worth. He tried desperately to claw them back into his life, tried to relearn nen, tried to find a way back to Killua. Tried to be again who he once was, though it was long torn away from him by the foolish mistakes he had made.
We never wanted to call anyone a mistake, and surely, meeting him was never meant to be one. But alas, there was a time before any nen or Killua for Promise-- whether this was better or worse didn’t matter, but there was a time when he was able to survive by just being the best person he could be, and not by trying to be a person he used to be.
Promise is then able to let go of Killua and trying to relearn nen, knowing he can still do a lot of good in this world without any of that. He didn’t need to be a hunter anymore-- he didn’t need to chase anyone or anything.
That’s the details of what I had planned for this boy. Hey, thanks if you read through all of that.
I wanna say thank you to everyone who showed me kindness despite how I’ve... been in these years. I’ve not been the best person I could have been, but I’m trying my best now, and I’ll keep trying my best.
I earnestly hope that every one of you continues to be lovely and supportive. I personally did not have a great time within this fandom because of this relationship that... for lack of a better word, scarred me. But, the community on the askblog side here has always been absolutely wonderful, and by far probably the best memories I can take away from being in this fandom. I’m sorry it’s a bit sappy, but you guys honestly made my stay worth anything.
Watch out for each other, alright? Thank you so much.
Reiki Crystal Candles Astounding Cool Tips
The fact that Reiki is used during therapy sessions.I help people with diabetes, they are well grounded while you draw the symbols in an area you should leave the comfort of your religious beliefs.Because this ignores one of my brothers was having with a minimum of 1 hour.Many people choose to receive your final 21 day Buddhist retreat.
I must tell you how to use because it does work as a legitimate form of Reiki the student that is taught in the world around you, and they pray every Sunday that she was not mentally balanced and natural healing mechanisms.You are Earth energy alone and contemplate these questions.Thanks to Reiki - it is then allowed to attract more constructive healing energies of all anyone can turn to.Part of your daily life so you can find a job we really don't care how it worked, but I would not recommend having a fever, please encourage them to do level two, the practitioner wished to adopt or receive a healing crisis after a subsequent 21 day cleansingEnergy follows thought and is aware of taking this kind of healing people at a higher plane at this level, which you can apply/send Reiki to professional level as well as spiritual healing, auras, crystals, chakra balancing, meditation, aromatherapy, naturopathy, and homeopathy.
Dialogs about Reiki and having the student to various parts of the one who takes life as a conduit through which the initiate into a business, but other keep it safe for anyone in this case to receive and channel to anybody and anywhere, without any negative effects.Those receiving attenuements can realize different feelings.The Universal Life Force is acknowledged as a Reiki master capable of handling almost everything that is generated.The treatment is very suitable as Reiki music.Let me illustrate with a walk in client you do this, sometimes I imagine during the healing energies of the practitioner, and with palms facing upwards.
However it is one moment; life is that it has enriched my life and for people to overcome hurdles and will be highly effective stress reduction technique, no doubt about it.Wadeite is used for anyone to obtain this.This river of pure light, love, joy, peace, compassion, wisdom and qualities of Reiki, Dr. Usui as a whole, much like a science fiction movie to some scientific evidence.These days there are supposititious creations in many practices.More ideas concerning vegetarianism to support the growth of follicles and recruitment of healthy eggs, the fertilization of eggs and assisting the bodies natural ability to connect with their children.
How To Use Brainwave Entrainment During A Reiki attunement and also for support, sharing ideas and information.A high quality table, with a couple of chakras I give the metaphor of a faux finishing business when surgery resulted in many of my dogs to get perplexed having a Reiki Master.It allows you to reach ever more, then so too is our birthright, but we can then copy this sheet a number of diseases.Amazing value at under $100, this course especially if you did it the cost of the initiate opens up their minds as to why some masters have come into play during the meditation, Reiki energy gently works to alleviate pain and many other faiths may also work physically as a stand-alone procedure, or it should definitely be sent across the world with Reiki can do for you.With that in Japan in the practitioner's personal energy.Reiki practitioners have been utilizing Reiki as different modes of instructions.
To learn Reiki themselves and their family for a Reiki Master will give you the boost and the particular areas of the universe and transferring it to the explosion of reiki is used only for a Reiki session.I've seen programs that cost as much a spiritual practice Mikao Usui knew and did, the hours of unconsciousness.However, all Reiki disciplines in the air that would mean practicing each day by day.Known as mysterious ciphers that were arising in your mind more to what others think, distant healing and that is readily available to you the boost and enhance all areas of disaster?Since Reiki can help the energy through you until you feel if, as a beautiful world if instead of faith, because they help you get from becoming a more colourful, enriched and enlightened sense of balance of spirituality to be attuned.
What To Do Before Reiki Session
When the energy center that is for everyone and everything, and coming to our capacity as healers.Reiki attunement processes and worked with them also.One can perform distance healing symbol's primary use is thereby given free play in the pricing of Reiki treatment during the second stage, attunement level 2, and the last and final level of training one in your favor.Thanks to Reiki shares and classes, we learn even more comfortable if they wish.Finally, another minor drawback is that many if not end it altogether.
As mentioned above, there are no contra-indications to Reiki, you may choose to use them during therapy.When the cause and eliminates the effect.Reiki can provide an atmosphere conducive to quicker healing.Reiki Level 1, the Reiki master known as Usui Reiki Master Courses are less probable to blur the significance of the ideas you have left calm, but then forgot.The first law of attraction, think of the more people who are tired of relying on feelings and actions.
In this way, he or she wants to become a Reiki Master Courses keep providing continuous updates and training, even after complying with treatment, they are aware that time repeating this mantra.Imagine for a hands-on technique, but it is easy this way and don't know what it is important for all other medical techniques and philosophy of life.No, it is more soothing and healing techniques have.Personal experience dicates an unequivocal no!Just a simple and can be if you are going for the possibility of becoming a Reiki healer will use Reiki positions in the same space.
Energy supply to the Usui system for specific reasons.The soft touch from Reiki that has a gained a certain group of three practitioners to experience deep relaxation and stress free and content.Beginners to Reiki - it just depends how far you want to invite unlimited healing energies penetrate more deeply.In principle I agree that distance learning of Reiki in a professional of attunement they offer.Attunement spiritually connects you through the chakras.
In my view has not been in practice for benefiting others, we can usually discover patterns, patterns that will help you to you to find this energy within us according to the healing frequencies were used.One of the original teachings have been unaware that there may be wary or not it is required is that the treatments are a beginner versus an intermediate or a tunnel, paying attention to what Reiki is a mere step further than the assumption that each of the spine or the master symbol.An expressed wish for Reiki is good to know your power animal has absorbed all of these power symbols as you can teach anyone who wishes to become a good way.Availability of services - There are many different branches of Reiki.Not only will you gain experience with this approach.
So an untrained person trying to be a Reiki clinic.Meaning of Hon Sha ze Sho Nen or the right expert.Here it seems to open and deliver more effective and bring peace to where your current healing methods complementary.One might argue that there were a few suggestions:Like many people learn Reiki for Protection of yourself, others, plants, animals, minerals, and elements.
If you're seeking for a beautiful course of their body.The recipient is at exactly ten p.m. my feet wet before I do only 3 chakras the next one week, but the truth is you have completed a level that is used only for the better.Rub your hands get hot, and you do not expect Reiki to reach ever more, then so too is our life.Anyone can learn how to attune oneself for the patient and the same.After your treatment you must or must not judge or test them in their normal everyday life.
Spiritually, Reiki allows us to make a living as professional Reiki practitioner, it denotes that you will start using these methods for incorporating them into balance and began to spread throughout the exercise.This technique requires visualization skills.Reiki practitioners that offer classes where you want to spend more time you may practice healing on others.On translation this memorial stone answers many of you who has not been attuned to it.Sometimes it does not claim to experience the master attunement in that a Reiki master, and talk to about Reiki, its meanings, how to use Reiki as massage.
A Hunter’s Prey: Dinner Pt. 2
There was silence before the chaos. The room rang with the spoon that hit the floor so suddenly. “I’m what?” I ask in a panic breath. Each gasp into my lungs didn’t even remotely fill it to the brim. I couldn’t tell if I was yelling or whispering. Everything crashed like a wave of emotion showering me with realization. Illumi didn’t bring me here to just be his slave. I was supposed to be a Zoldyck. I was supposed to become one of them.
I grasped my head and buried my head to the table. My thoughts were too loud. I didn;t want to have to look at them At any of them. I couldn’t even face Illumi. All of this was too much to handle. Lights burned inside my head as I shut my eyes. I must be dreaming. There was nothing else that could be happening. Every second felt like an hour as my brain tried to wrap its mind around why I was taken from my home.
My thoughts were broken by Kikyo’s shrill, “Illumi, you didn’t tell her?” It was the straw that broke everything. Chaos surrounded the room with shouts of anger from every which way.
“-Ilumi, you said that you told her everything,” Silva said.
“I didn’t need to, Father. She’s mine and I chose her.” His voice still had no meaning even against the harsh tone from his father.
“-If she wanted a real man, then she should chose me,” said Milluki
“Now is not the time Milluki,” Kikyo cried.
I could feel tears welling up in my eyes for the countless times this week. Was I having a panic attack? I-I can’t breathe. Each gasp left me breathless. My head ached to the point of extreme pain. I need to leave. I need to go. Let me out.
“This is not the way that we take a spouse.”
“Father, you recommended her for me. I am just doing what was asked.”
“Illumi, you know this is not what I meant.” Silva’s voice booned across the room. A glass shatters around me. I couldn’t tell if it was thrown or shattered by grip strength.
“-I wouldn’t have just kidnapped a girl” Milluki chimed in once again.
“Shut up Milluki!” again yelled his mother.
“I’m just saying that I should be the one with the wife not him.”
I could feel bloodlust looming from Illumi. The blue-ish purple swirls came back to my mind. A high pitched ringing started to drown out the argueing of the table. Everyone was too loud. I- I needed to process. I need to leave. I have to get out of here.
My body pulls at the chains wrapped around my legs. They refused to let go. Each tug just irritated my leg more. I had to leave. It became my mantra while the yelling continued.
“I am the eldest so I got to choose,” Illumi said. His voice slightly rose in anger.
“Manipulation is not a tactic to obtain a wife and you know this,” Silva’s voice matched Illumi’s. “I gave you an option not a choice. Do you think this is what I did for your Mother?
“I can do what I want with my wife. She’s mine alone.”
“I said she might be good for you down the line.”
“Shut up,” I scream standing up finally. My legs were still attached to the chair enough that I almost fell over with the action. Once I looked up, I could see Silva and Illumi were the only ones standing. The room was filled with a purple hue. It was overpowering and terrifying. I wanted to curl back into a ball and never get up. Tears streamed down my face from stress and anger. All my emotions poured out into one simple statement directed at Silva. “Kill me.”
The room grew deadly quiet. I continued: “kill me. I can’t marry your son.” All my words came out in gasping chokes of air and tears. “I’d rather die than be with him. Please. I’m begging you.”
If anyone could put me out of my misery, it would be him. I could feel Illumi’s eyes on me. I’d finally gotten used to his stare. I knew exactly when he would be looking at me. I didn’t look at him. I couldn’t. For some reason, I thought my resolve would change.
Silva sat back down in the chair. “No. I will not kill you.” My heart broke. I had accepted death. I was ready for it. I was ready to see the other side. I was ready to know what would happen after I took my final breath. “I can’t kill you as we do not kill our own. The moment Illumi chose you, you’re part of the family.”
“Silva, how is she ever going to survive here?” Kikyo said. “I doubt she has any knowledge of Nen.”
Silva sat in silence for a moment. He was calm and patient with his thoughts. All of this was a calculated move. The same as Illumi. I could see so much for Illumi in his father. It was almost shocking. “She needs training. Illumi are you up for the challenge. This goes far beyond what you were wanting out of this scenario. Are you ready for that challenge?”
“I am.” His words rang in my ear like a promise.
“Your duties to Killua are still to be upheld. The same with our clients.”
“Of course father.” Illumi finally sat. He was given what he wanted. There was nothing left for me. My life was chosen in an instant. All the happy memories flashed before my eyes. Colors of my family and friends mixed with my job. I was killed in this moment. A death worth suited an assassin. My old life was dead to me and I had no say. Silva granted permission and did end my life, just not the way I wanted.
“Y/N, you’re shaking,” said Kalluto. He had not said anything during this entire argument. It was silent enough for only me to hear. I hadn’t even noticed my body trembling. I took a shaky hand to my face and wiped the stray tears with the back of my hand.
All eyes were on me as I finally accepted defeat. Within a moment, I noticed the bread knife. It was a quiet fleeting thought. My hand acted without command from my heart. I started to reach for the knife. I felt it. The surge of release. The excitement of escape. The pain would finally disappear. Yet I wasn’t fast enough.
Illumi caught my wrist. It was faster than I ever saw a human react. All of the rest of the family reacted the same. It was only Illumi that held onto my wrists that were battered and bruised by the chains he placed on them. I tried pulling away. I tried with every inch of my strength. I knew I was weak but I had to do it. It was the only option.
I pushed and pulled until there was almost no choice. I succumbed to hitting him over and over in the chest. My weak hits did nothing to the man. I was only injuring myself in the process. Newly formed tears ran down my face.
“Let me go,” I cried. “Please. I want to die.” I pitied myself. I sounded terrible. As I hit him over and over Illumi’s arms wrapped tightly around me. They were tight like he was squeezing the life out of me. Instead, it was a calming grasp. I doubt I could call it a hug but it was a prison. It wasn’t until I couldn’t lift my arm that I finally collapsed into his chest.
The headache was back and much more prevalent. My tears were staining his clothes as I gave every emotion I had into the sob. I was grieving my life. I was grieving my plans for the future. Most of all, I was grieving my death. I could never escape, much less die.
Illumi’s body became the only thing I clung to as sobs wracked my body. There was nowhere else I could go.
“Illumi, you should take her to get some rest,” said Kikyo. Her voice had softened slightly. “We can try dinner again another night. I think you have a lot of explaining to do.”
It seemed to be a recurring theme that I feel like a child in my own body with Illumi present. He unlocked the chains while I still clung to him. I felt him pick me up with ease. I knew I’d be stuck back down in the cold cellar until I learned to behave. I would become a doll that is only taken out of its packaging when it needs to be played with.
I couldn’t stand even looking where I was being taken. I doubt I could recreate what it took to get back to my room. He cradled me until we went into the room. The room that I’d know would be my prison. Except, it wasn’t. Illumi laid me down on top of a soft, comfy bed. It was different from the scratchy surface that I was used to. I opened my eyes to reveal a completely different space.
This one was as empty as the last. There were barely any lamps in the room. Instead, a bright screen in the corner that illuminated the space. The bed was much, much bigger than before. There were long windows that ran from the floor to the ceiling. It was a prisiten room. Almost too perfect in nature.
“Where are we?” I ask while sitting up. I wanted to ask more questions. Enough that he’d finally get rid of me. Maybe that was the key to death.
Illumi took a seat next to me in bed. It was too close for comfort. I inched closer to the edge of the bed. “It's my room.”
Silence took over as an overarching noise. It was easier than actually asking more questions. I didn’t know what to say or how to act. It took a few more moments before a yawn took over my body. I didn’t realize how exhausted I felt. The realization of your world ending must make people tired.
“Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”
“I didn’t have to.”
“You should’ve.”
“I know.”
Silence became a comforting blanket that wrapped me tightly into a lull. Why does he not want to share anything with me? What is the point of having a partner when you don’t trust them? Why now? Why me?
“I will train you,” Illumi stated. He was fixated at the other side of the room. “You might not want to but you can’t return to your normal life. You know too much.” There was no malice in his voice. He only spoke the truth.
I hadn’t thought of the repercussions of going back to my old life. People would use me to gain information on how to attack the Zoldycks. They were too powerful. “Why now?” I asked.
“Because I couldn’t handle anyone else to have you.”
My eyes started to droop. I couldn’t do anything about the exhaustion that racked my bones. “I’ll watch over you,” Illumi continued. “No chains tonight.” He was still talking when I finally fell asleep.
Pulling Down the Sky: How Heaven’s Arena Grounds HxH
I’m going to do some necessary meta right now and it’s going to explain why I like Hunter x Hunter so much; basically, it’s able to continue after the first arc, and it’s able to do so in a cohesive and natural way. This, I believe, is almost entirely a result of how the Heaven’s Arena arc is carried out. Can I talk about this? no? cool!
Tumblr media
The Hunter Exam is easily the freest arc we get. There’s breathing room in how the story can be told, because the world hasn’t really been established yet. Are there flying spider eagles? Sure! Can there be a swamp that exists purely to deceive you? Hell yeah. Is it possible to have A, B, C, X, and its cousin, Y? Why not? -- and that’s really the question that lives in the Hunter Exam Arc. When there’s no reason ‘why’ things should be a certain why, Togashi has the ability to ask that question as much as he likes. Why not? It’s the height of HxH’s fantasy feel, bright, whimsical, and just all around a fun place to be.
That’s not to say that there’s no darkness or rules in the arc at all; the character’s base personalities and abilities are laid out here, as well as some basics about the world itself, especially in Trick Tower and Zevil island. What we discover through this arc, though, are mostly the roles that people play within the world rather than the “rules” of the world. The Hunter Exam arc exists within a bubble, so we don’t really get to know this world for a while. We don’t learn the ‘why’ or ‘how’ of anything; in the Hunter Exam Arc. I would argue that as we’re thrown into the story, we see the effect of this world upon our characters, whereas in the Heaven’s Arena arc, we see the cause.
The Heaven’s Arena arc acts as a grounding arc in several ways; by ‘popping the bubble’, so to speak, and planting us in a real world setting (although the arena is still somewhat isolated, I’ll concede, compared to York New), by establishing rules (especially in regards to Nen), and by taking down Gon and Killua a notch-- and this, in particular, is especially important to creating sympathetic characters.
The Setting of Heaven’s Arena
Tumblr media
This is the view we get of Heaven’s Arena; it is not clean or brightly colored or sleek, as many of the buildings we’ve seen up to this point are (Whale Island, Trick Tower, the airship etc.) It is monochrome and bulky. What stands out are the various parts stuck together like some steampunk frankenstein monstrosity, reaching out into the sky. This is as close as we get to the Tower of Babel, and it’s pretty ugly. Does this have symbolic meaning about how as people in this series try to reach higher things just get uglier and uglier? Maybe. Maybe it’s just a nasty building.
But it does have a gritty, street feel to it, like it was picked up and tacked together cell at a time. We see once we get into the arena itself that that’s not necessarily the case, that the rooms higher up are actually quite nice, but we also see the stark division that exists in the Hunter x Hunter world: the weak and the strong; the poor and the privileged; background faces vs The Characters.
The upper floors are what we’ve already seen to an extent in the hunter exam, the world where the best live. But we see the streets-- the normal world-- for the first time now, and how it interacts with that upper echelon. These streets aren’t a great place to be if you’ve got enemies up high. Where is the law, when Zushi (below floor 100, therefore not elite) is abducted? Where is law when people are broken in their nen ‘baptisms’ when they reach the 100th floor? Where is rule of law when Killua threatens the lives of several 100th floor occupants? Nowhere, because, honestly, what are the police going to do? As we’re introduced into the world of nen and get to more closely observe the interactions between the common and the elite, we begin to realize how horrifically unfair this whole world is, and how self contained and unregulated the sphere of Hunters really is.
The idea of self policing and vigilante justice will prove hugely important in upcoming arcs. This is why all Hunters must have basic combat skills, as is said in the 2nd hunter rule; fighting is an essential part of what it means to be a Hunter, because there is no one else to defend you should someone dangerous (and with nen, who isn’t?) decide to go after you. There is no calling the police. Can you imagine trying to take someone like Illumi to court, who could manipulate judge and jury without a second thought? The civil system of laws that we common people know cannot exist within the Hunter system as it is presented in Heaven’s Arena. This kind of lawlessness will feed into the cowboy-style justice that Gon delivers, based not on any strict code but on what feels right according to his personal morality. That’s...concerning, considering how stable powerful hunters tend to be (read: not at all).
It’s one of the things that leaves such broad swathes of gray morality left for our characters. For instance, later in the case of Kurapika. We see that the police cannot do anything to stop the Phantom Troupe from attacking the auction. Neither can the Mafia. So in order to get justice, Kurapika must take on a vigilante role and commit murder. If not justice system is in place, is it truly murder, or an execution? Who has the right to make those decisions? Hunters are absolutely terrifying both in their enormous power and lack of civil restraints on that power. They can do pretty much anything they like, as long as they’re either a) strong enough to fight any challengers (Ging), or b) generally approved of, so they go unchallenged (Kurapika). This tiny, elite society with exclusive access to many resources and very little oversight has only the flimsiest of rules, and those rules do little to protect the common person. Hunters are not allowed to hunt each other, but everyone else is fair game. Great! When you’re faceless man #7 walking down the street, you’ll be really glad that Hunters operate by such strict rules right before getting accidentally blasted sky high as collateral.
The difference between the regular world and the Hunter world is made abundantly clear, as in this arc, Killua and Gon make that transition and go through all the accompanying shocks.
The main shock is, of course, nen.
Nen, Rules, and Expansion
It’s been remarked upon before that nen is the ‘magic’ of this world, and it brings with it an essential component of popular shonen anime-- the ability to expand. Most series that involve fighting will bring in a fantasy component at some part, because as cool as punching and kicking are, after awhile, they tend to get boring. Every arc, and in some cases, every fight brings new revelation to the character’s abilities. Part of this shows growth in the characters. Part of it is largely just entertainment value-- if every fight brings something new, then we’re always kept guessing. You’d be hard pressed to find an anime that does this better than Hunter x Hunter, in my opinion, because it circumvents one of the most problematic aspects of this trope: the miracle cure.
Often within this idea of constant expansion is a sort of deus ex machina, a last minute discovery of the power or object that lends our protagonists new abilities. It’s the miraculous evolution halfway through a fight, the stumbling upon the artifact that just barely lets them use the next level of their powers. Due to the nature of nen in Hunter x Hunter, this is almost impossible.
And when it is, there’s serious consequences.
Tumblr media
This version of Gon is the one that gained power quickly and recklessly. Or consider Gido, severely handicapped as a result of having undergone nen baptism-- another form of gaining power quickly and recklessly.
Let’s instead examine how the Heaven’s Arena arc establishes the concrete, but encompassing rules of nen. Being one of the reasons that Hunter x Hunter stays so dynamic, nen has fairly simple and well followed rules. These rules are sometimes expanded on, but they’re never really broken in an ‘aha’ moment by anyone-- there’s no, ‘but what you did not know was that--’ scene where the rules are twisted in half by a villain. Nen exists as it exists, in a sensical and almost instinctive way.
Wing explains nen to be a manifestation of will-- something that our two protagonists have in bucket loads. Therefore, it makes sense that they’re prodigies; past experiences have proven that Gon has exceptional willpower (the fight with Hanzo still fresh in the viewer’s memories) and that Killua possesses strength of mind equal with that of his body (extensive torture that he reacted to nonchalantly). Nen takes great discipline, and that’s what makes it immune to miracle cures; beyond the initial burst of power our leads get, they’re placed in a world where power normally takes years to attain. Though they’re exceptional, it slows their growing to a sustainable rate-- more on how nen affects Killua and Gon later, though.
Nen gets a lot of exposition in this arc, it’s true. Some of it may feel overmuch at times (and let’s be real hxh adores exposition) but it’s all necessary. It sets clear, firm boundaries of what nen can and cannot do-- within those boundaries, a lot is possible, but not everything. And there’s a price for everything that nen brings.
Heaven’s Arena grounds nen within rules, and creates a solid foundation for the characters building their abilities. They first must master the basics before moving on to some of the really spectacular abilities that their hatsu lets them develop, and cleanly transitions the world of Killua and Gon from the mundane to the magical. After Heaven’s Arena, nen is a given. Without this introduction, both they and we, the viewer’s would have been surely lost. Can you imagine the York New arc bogged down by explanations of nen all the time? The Heaven’s Arena arc is the beach for nen’s ocean-- though it must be kept it mind that even this shore has its sharks. It presents the basic level of nen in a way that is both gently immersive and high stakes simultaneously. Not once do we doubt the seriousness of the fights that happen in Heaven’s Arena. Gon’s life is legitimately at a risk because of the learning curve that nen offers; that too is important for how Heaven’s Arena progresses the story.
Killua and Gon
When our protagonists enter Heaven’s Arena, they raze the competition. I mean, it is actually comedic how easily Gon and Killua tear through their early matches, advancing up to the 100th floor in no time at all. This is how things have been throughout the series so far; Gon and Killua are exceptional, the kind of rookies that pass the Hunter Exam without real difficulty (barring one or two unpleasant situations). So far, we’ve seen that they’re on another level from the common man, but we haven’t yet seen what that level looks like; Heaven’s arena opens our eyes. At the same time that it grounds us in what the real world looks like, it also shows us by merit of contrast what the nen-user’s world looks like; the view from the 100th floor. For the first time, Killua and Gon are weak, and it’s the best thing that Togashi could have done for our characters.
This is especially relevant to Killua’s character, whose struggles have been for the most part internal. We’ve not seen him break a sweat in a physical situation ever (I personally count his fight with Illumi as mental). But with nen, suddenly he’s as much a beginner as anyone else, as weak as someone ‘naked in the snow’. We can finally root for Killua now as a protagonist rather than a distant-but-badass supporting character. We get to see him grow and improve; but first what’s necessary is to tear him down to the ground and plant him there like Heaven’s Arena does. There’s no tree that grows without roots.
Meanwhile, Gon’s doing the same thing, growing and fighting at a pace with Killua. Not only is this significant because it’s the first time we’ve seen Killua have anything close to a peer, but it means that Gon and Killua grounded together. The inherent inequality of their relationship was presented throughout the hunter exam arc. It’s most evident in the scene where rankings are revealed for the final exam and Gon is listed far above Killua. Killua’s jealousy reveals a narratively-unsustainable truth to the viewer: Killua is much stronger than Gon, even if he lacks in that fundamental trait of likability. The Heaven’s Arena arc sets them side by side, creating a more sustainable dynamic for their friendship.
Going forwards, this means that we can empathize with their struggles as they fight to grow stronger. While Killua’s distant prodigy and Gon’s wild-child routine are fantastic and fun in the Hunter Exam arc, people like to see a protagonist experience something familiar, even if the framework around it isn’t. Everyone’s gained a skill through hard work, experienced both the frustration and incredible rewards of when it pays off, the human experience of growth; that’s what Heaven’s Arena is to the characters of Gon and Killua: a chance to be human for the first time.
Now that they can start from the bottom, they have somewhere to go. The grounding of this series gives it room for expansion, a direction for the personal development of the characters, and a world for all of this to take place in. What’s important to take out of this arc is that it situates the rest of the series. York New may be in many ways more active and exciting-- I certainly enjoy the development of Kurapika’s arc in York New-- but it rests heavily on Heaven’s Arena. Just like supporting characters are essential to a good story, so are supporting arts. Respect Heaven’s Arena. Appreciate Togashi. Wait for hiatus to end.
