attention rollo flamme fans! with the masquerade event getting a rerun early august, i wanted to give that man some of the love he very much deserves—in the form of a sfw, fluffy content event!

welcome to the introduction post for my new event! i am your host, auburn! i just wrapped up my 3k event (with many requests still in my inbox sobs) but i wanted to do something for rollo since he doesn't have much fluff for him at all :C

this will be very similar to my sweet shroud summer 2024 event if you participated / heard about that!

both writers and artists are encouraged to participate!

RUN TIME: this event will run from august 9th to august 30th! but you are more than welcome to post your pieces before then if you are finished or after if something came up! it's a very lose time frame that you can absolutely fit to suit your needs!

you do not have to sign up to participate in this event, just to avoid making people nervous about interacting with me (i know some people think i'm scary so jsdjsdjd)

➺ there is no limit on requesting. you are free to request as many times as you want, as long as you are adhering to my rules & guidelines.

➺ please check out my portrayals and muses post before requesting. I update it regularly with characters that I have inspiration for. If you do not see a specific character on there, it means that I do not write for them.

➺ I do not accept SFW requests. This blog is strictly NSFW, and that includes all writings that I post. I am happy to do fluff and smut, but I will never just do fluff/slice-of-life, etc. I typically only write smut-related requests, plot or no plot.

➺ I only write one-shots (4K+ words) or drabbles (less than 4K). I no longer accept headcanon requests.

➺ when requesting, you are free to put as much detail or as little detail as you want. please keep in mind that if you send in a request with little detail, I will likely take creative liberties.

➺ I only write for female readers. Any requests for male or gender-neutral readers will be deleted or deferred to writers who write that type of content!

➺ I do not write canon/canon character pairings or original characters. I strictly write canon/reader (female). Please do not ask me to write about any canon pairings.

writing neutral readers; a guide

(neutral = unspecified gender, race, appearance, etc.)

hi hi here's vee, the one of (hopefully) many neutral fic writers for atsv, showing YOU how to write a neutral reader for your character x reader fic!!!!

this is mainly about romantic x reader fics!!

lil disclaimer: you don't have to write neutral readers if you don't want to! this is just for people who do and might want some advice :) all of these are what works for me — there are plenty of ways to write a neutral reader!

before we get started: why are neutral readers great?

inclusivity! a lot of the times it can be hard to find a fic right for you especially if they tend to be for a certain demographic

forces you to think outside of the box — you can't rely on describing the reader, so you have to describe character interactions more creatively (as you'll see me try to do a lot in this post 😭)

helps with immersion! a lot of the time overly-descriptive reader inserts can make it hard to... actually insert yourself into them

your fics can reach a lot more people if they're neutral (though this is just an added bonus lol)

some colour-coding for your wellbeing: blue = general advice + examples, pink = my personal input

1. avoiding white-coding

this is a big point i'd like to address first because it doesn't get talked about enough! and all of this is in reference to a post i saw like a week ago lmao

i haven't seen this term being used a lot but the general idea is when a piece of writing is catered towards a white reader (usually implied through description)

this is usually done unintentionally but avoiding white coding is an important part of writing totally neutrally!

general things to avoid

describing physical attributes such as hair + skin tone

for example describing hair as silky/smooth implies that it is straight + excludes the majority of other hair types / styles etc

also things like running your fingers through your hair can be impractical w certain hairstyles

i tend to just avoid hair in general ? if you want you can focus on other gestures (hand holding, cupping readers face or sumn)

or just reverse the roles entirely and have reader do the comforting gestures to the canon character

skin tone is definitely more subtle however it can be implied especially through things like blushing

people with darker skin tones DO blush, but it generally tends to be less visible or not at all

instead i tend to describe the feeling rather than the outward changes (face getting warm, getting flustered, heart rate increasing, sweating, stuttering etc)

2. being gender-neutral

okay this admittedly can be difficult to write sometimes

the general rule for a gender neutral reader is to avoid referring to the reader as male or female AND any physical description specific to a certain sex

gendered terms

some people like to use they/them when reader is referred to by other characters

instead of boyfriend/girlfriend you can use partner

i personally don't do these things as you'll see in my next point about re-direction!

there are PLENTY of gender neutral pet names in english

for languages like spanish which have masc and fem versions of words i tend to use nouns (usually non-living or abstract) which have a set gender (such as my heart, my love, etc — one of my favourites is cariño (darling) because it doesn't change based on gender)

though again i rarely write terms of endearment in other languages so i suggest you do your research!

physical terms (sfw only)

also for body inclusivity

again this mainly to try and avoid implying fem!reader but also body types just a tiny little bit

i tend to avoid mentioning body shape but if i do then i use something vague like "shape of your body" rather than "curves" or anything specific

you can just write down the body part without describing it physically (chest, waist thighs, etc)

eyelashes are ... unisex! no way!

you might want to avoid makeup but this is just a *general* suggestion

i tend to NOT describing clothing choices unless it's relevant to the premise of the fic — usually vague references like your school uniform, pajamas, shoes, favourite shirt, etc

you can also cheat this if reader is wearing the other character's clothes 😭 next point re-direction WOOO

3. re-direction / re-phrasing

(a personal choice of mine + totally optional)

re-direction is when you change the focus of a sentence in order to get rid of any words descriptions that may take away from the neutrality of the reader (as you see me talking about in the little pink text everywhere or in the little suggestions in blue)

Re-direction can be used for anything! I think there's a book that exists that uses no words with the letter e and a book that uses no pronouns at all (but don't ask me what they are because I have no clue)

It's not particularly easy or straightforward all the time and you might have to change more than one sentence but re-phrasing your writing can be a good challenge! (if you choose to do so)

for me i tend to re-direct to avoid using any sort of third person pronouns (he/she/they etc) or gendered terms and to avoid using insert tags like y/n

example on pronouns & gendered terms

for pronouns i usually change "he/she/they" to "you" or a noun

"She's not welcome here" could become "Your friend isn't welcome here"

Or the sentence may change entirely to convey the same meaning. The woman turned to you, speaking one simple command: "Get out."

I also tend to use more masc / neutral terms in casual settings like "dude" or "bro"

I also avoid the use of "partner" (though this is just nit-picky) ex. "Is this your partner?" might become "Oh, [character] talks about you all the time!" (entirely dependent on context and if you care enough lol — one of the less clear-cut redirections)

while you could obviously use they in this scenario i personally don't out of preference (to me they/them is an nb set of pronouns if the gender isn't ambiguous and blah blah blah) but it doesn't really matter

example on insert tags

"(Y/N), wait!" can become "Hey, wait!"

Or you could use "your name" rather than a placeholder. He called your name, running behind you. "Wait!"

like i mentioned before things like clothes and favourite foods all tend to revolve around the character rather than the reader. in a lot of cases writing about the foods the character likes or wearing the clothes the character owns can actually be more immersive than inserting your personal preferences into a pair of brackets (in my experience at least)

4. general thoughts and opinions

one big thing i wanted to point out is that it's actually good for your writing to "ban" yourself from using certain terms and descriptions. i find that i focus a lot more on describing events, emotions and character interactions rather than being caught up on the reader.

fem!reader and masc!reader are GREAT too! amazing beautiful wonderful keep writing those — but i think gender neutral readers help to avoid a lot of biases that might (albeit unintentionally) come with a specific gender

and being inclusive for all kinds of readers when you're writing a neutral reader is so important!

to conclude

if you exclusively write one type of reader that is absolutely fine :) write what you want and be happy doing it

neutral readers are GREAT but so difficult to write so pls don't worry if u mess up sometimes 👍

i am still figuring out ways to make my writing more inclusive and i wouldn't know without other people's input! so please feel free to drop ur personal gripes or advice

i have like a little template in my drafts with my basic layout (like title, prologue, warnings, pairing etc and so on) and i just keep it to copy and paste for a new fic. and underneath the header and info section, i just outline messy dot points. and each dot point gets turned into a few paragraphs or a scene. and i always have some typa thesaurus open 😭

oouh!! mostly song titles i think, i always use them as a jumping point. or actually i really love pinterest, and web-weaving type of posts when it comes to themes i wanna explore (mostly in sfw fics, as opposed to like short smut) 😁

omg! rent-a-dilf by @screampied i found it sooo charming and effortlessly engaging and also super fun even tho i've never played the sims.

i forgot to like this and add it to my queue so i took an hour to find this particular one, but what you know by @starmapz sukuna and reader are so well characterised and incredibly written! i also loved little yuuji and choso's cameos :(

and they were roommates by @sugoroo i loved it so bad, so EXCELLENT and the tension and smut had me on the edge of my seat. choso's made me laugh 😭

— 13. whats a common writing tip you always follow?

honestly it feels like a cop-out answer but i always try to remember 'unlearn shame' in my head. like when im writing, like for no reason, i get a bit embarrassed or self aware or im overthinking a sentence?? i just have to remember that it is just never that deep....😭

however, a better answer i think would be that for 99% of my fics (so excluding very short fluff, or straight up jackhammering smut) i always always do worldbuilding first. my favourite authors are j.r.r tolkien and george rr martin so middle earth/westerosi levels of high fantasy are massive inspirations when it comes to the grand scheme of creating a world for my characters to interact in.

also i rlly love mythology, folktales and medieval history so they always play a role in how i write or treat common themes. i think its super interesting and poignant at how some stories survive thousands of years and resonate across different cultures, and they remain classics for a reason <333 if that makes sense

like okay say! even in fics that aren't a part of some royal/fantasy/myth au right, like idk say im writing about gojo dying (rip king 😰) its obviously set within the jjk world in 2018, but i would try to see how the following works express the same theme of grief, battle, leaving a loved one behind:

the death of sigurd in the volsunga saga in norse myths

patroclus and achilles in the illiad

a medieval french epic called the song of roland, where roland's death is felt so strongly by his fiancee that she dies

tristan and isolde (tristan being mortally wounded n knowing that he will leave isolde behind, and she succumbs to grief)

the japanese folklore tale of the warrior tomoe gozen, and how she mourns her lord and lover

29! at the moment 😭 and watch me genuinely write like...2... but one of them that i havent even drafted much out yet, towards the end of the list is like geto x reader long fic (prob will have smut bc 😇) but its gonna be an alternative universe where reader is considered a saint/icon/mouthpiece of the gods and he's been marked for death (a warrior? or smth idk)

hmm honestly, i did have an answer for this at first like 'oh yeah this one xyz i wish it got more notes' but that being said i feel like there's none that i feel truly flopped on par with how im improving writing and getting more comfortable. but! if i had to choose: goo goo muck #1 with the minotaur au because i rlly put some thought into how i could incorporate sukuna, yuji, and yuji's execution with the myth of the beast trapped in the maze.

and ditto! i think its my longest fic so far 😭 and it took me so long to plan out a timeline from childhood to gojo's death

it would be poor form and incredibly remiss of me to not say user @creamflix 🤭 i really love how ur dialogue flows, and the way you describe scenes make me feel like i'm really there (a+ for me)

also @tonycries simply because every time i try my hand at smut, it takes me 4 days to think of something new, and i'm always wondering on how to reword shit so i'm not writing the same thing over and over, but they keep it soooo fresh and new with every fic and soooo well written!!

@kurooh i always find their smut fics sooo creative and fun, and their recent double fantasy fic was SAUUUUUR good!

– Graphics Descriptions of Violence/Abuse/Rape (this includes gun-play and weapon-play with minuscule exceptions), ADULT/MINOR pairings, incest/stepcest, foot-play, mlw, wlw, female readers or female-centric characters, drugs-use, infidelity (unless for plot/story reasons I create/approve), furry characters, piss/scat/vomit, Dom/Top Male Reader, etc.

I TAKE REQUESTS...

– I take requests for male-reader only, with the exception of Gender-Neutral Characters for my non-binary folk (you are loved). You can check my character/fandom index or just look at my masterlists to see who/what I write for.

– Please pay attention to my request status on the intro post. Any requests submitted when my inbox is closed will be deleted. You may send it through a DM, however, if you want to make sure I see it and that you don't forget it. Just don't spam me.

– If a request is out of my comfort zone or mentions any of the subjects I don't write listed above, I will delete the request. If you submit it again, I will delete and message you rather than making a whole post. Also, please DO NOT rush me or keep asking when your request or any update is getting posted. I get to them as fast as I can but keep in mind that I have other responsibilities outside of this.

– My asks are always open if you want to just ask me a question or chat about something.

LAST THING...

– My works are aimed at and written for male-readers and/or characters. This is already been stated. However, I am aware and grateful that I have female readers who read and enjoy my content as well. That's great! I read some fem-reader stuff myself (though most times unknowingly).

– But, let me be clear, I do not appreciate any sort of fetishization of male/male pairings in my inbox or DMs. I also do not take kindly whatsoever to any comment/suggestion/wish of switching or changing my stories to fit a female-centric narrative. I've seen it one too many times, and I've been sent it one too many times.

– All I ask is that if you're going to read and/or interact with my stuff, you be respectful of not just my work but of the other male readers whom it's written for and of my boundaries. We're a tight-knit community on here, male and female readers/writers alike, let's keep it that way!

TW: opinions, mentions of smut, long rant

The Tumblr community doesn’t like fluff writers. Now before you grab your pitchforks and knives to come and attack me hear me out. I have been an SFW fanfic writer for 3 years and an NSFW writer for 1 and a half years. The difference in my notes is astounding. If I went to my NSFW page and posted a drabble, I’d reach 2k easily. But if I post a drabble here, it would get 400 maybe 500 likes? My blog has been up for the last 3 years and I barely reach 2k. I only started writing on other blogs for NSFW and am already surpassing my followers on this blog. Do you see what I mean? The interactions that NSFW blogs dramatically differ from the interactions of SFW blogs. And no, I’m not coming for anyone by making this post, I’m just saying that readers don’t like reading fluff. There are so many good writers on here and it's sad seeing they don’t have the interaction or notes that they deserve only cause they’re SFW. It’s so disheartening to log onto this account and maybe get 1, 2 requests but then go somewhere else and my inbox is flooded. I don’t know, it seems like the SFW community is getting pushed out of the fanfiction space slowly but surely. It’s so sad seeing all these fantastic creators leave because they’re not getting the motivation to write because no one is interacting.
