WIP Snip

thank you so much @ghostofnoir for tagging me to drop a WIP snip!! a couple of weeks ago i'd've probably said i don't have a WIP on the go, but i'm slooowly starting to accept that i'm probably going to attempt to finish another chaptered fic 😭 atm i'm in the stage of refusing to write anything at all bc i want to "feel ready" (haha) but as it happens i do already have 30k of it sitting there waiting to be whipped (WIP'd) into shape the plot tl;dr: harry sneaks into a nightclub under polyjuice and accidentally makes friends with the slytherins, who don't know who he is. this is a lil chunk from (probably) chapter 4 – a bit from chapter 2 was previously posted here!

“Draco,” he says, “come and dance with me.”

Malfoy glances at Nott, who frowns at Harry. Harry knows he should feel bad for interrupting them, but the alcohol and Polyjuice in his system make him feel like himself again, like he can be impulsive, like he should be—so he keeps his gaze on Malfoy, keeps his hand extended in invitation.

“Oh, all right,” Malfoy says, shrugging—but Harry is watching him so closely that he doesn’t miss the way Malfoy looks at him through his eyelashes with a small, pleased smile teasing the corner of his mouth.

The shots, the anonymity, the thrill of being in Phoenix—it all bolsters Harry, makes him feel confident, makes him feel free. Once they’re in the middle of the crowd, music thumping around them, through them, Harry pulls Malfoy close and murmurs in his ear that he’s sexy when he dances.

Malfoy snorts and tosses his head. “I’d return the compliment, but I have no idea what you actually look like.”

Harry hesitates. The powerful feeling inside him falters. “Sorry,” he says—almost a question.

Malfoy shrugs. “I don’t care what you look like, as it happens,” he says, though his voice is a bit too casual. “You have a hot personality.”

Harry covers the swooping in his stomach with a laugh. “A hot personality?”

“That’s what I said. Now, come on. Dance with me, if you think I’m so sexy.”

Harry dances with him. There’s no hesitation when they touch each other now—just lingering eye contact, hands finding shoulders, waist, hips. Harry presses closer automatically. Malfoy tips his head back and moves to the music.

i want more 1:1 moments between the girls!! the only dynamic that's been explored so far is tabogen (we got faran/imogen crumbs last week). praying for that in s3

is it me or are all of imogen & johnny's scenes just her trauma dumping myyy god. don't get me wrong i like them together but it just sends me, i also wish they'd explored the whole "player" trope a bit more it could've been interesting to see. i just don't know how believable it is to go from THAT to loverboy in the span of an episode but i guess we have the 8-episode season aspect to blame

faran and greg: where to even start. i saw this ship coming before the season even started and (hear me out) i do not think they'll be endgame. i personally don't hate greg (maybe it's just elias' charisma) but it feels very contradicting to the show's values to pair faran & greg together. still, it is a semi-realistic situation. i just hope they proceed with caution & are smart about whatever happens next. i do not want faran to be babysitting him into becoming a decent human being

just need to bring up the "my cousin kevin, who lives in riverdale" moment cause i was crying w laughter. this show is so unserious sometimes (shoutout kevin keller tho)

Hi! I'm a long time lurker processing some feelings about the supposed "love triangle", and I had some thoughts about the way Penelope's feelings are being talked about. I think to some degree, the girl really spirals and catastrophizes so bad she makes her situation worse, hence her reaction to Eloise's near call with the queen and it seems to be how she reacted to the two instances she seems to think mean Colin would never have any romantic interest in her.

In the "You're Pen." scene she seems to take that to mean that she doesn't even count as a woman, when it's him expressing that he holds her to such high regard that she matters so much she transcends those boundaries.

In the "I would never court Penelope Featherington." scene, it feels like she really takes that as some kind of final break in her crush brain dreams of ending up with the guy she's infatuated with, purely because she's already spiraling from the Eloise situation. I think she's internalised the idea that she literally does not count as a woman based on her treatment from the members of the ton and her family and projected that haaard on Colin and his words and actions in that petty way teenagers whose crushes don't like them back do.

And while I hate it so much 😭😭😭😭 that's the point of the third (wheel) point of the triangle is, I think. Lord D is a seemingly highly eligible bachelor (based on Lady Danbury bringing him up to the queen) and seemingly has little to no ties to the majority of the ton, which means he's a wealthy titled Lord... is a vegetarian? (idk, he doesn't interest me, but his narrative potential is interesting) importantly; isn't influenced by the tons perception of her and he seems taken by Penelope...

the guy who probably could go for the diamond of a season goes for her when she's trying to be beautiful and seen as a woman, and that's probably really flattering after all... AND YET... SHE IS STILL SEEMINGLY NOT INTERESTED!! SHE LOOKS GENUINELY UNHAPPY(?) IN THE TRAILER CLIP WHEN HE TELLS HER SHE'S LOOKING BEAUTIFUL (can be other sections spliced together, admittedly) SHE KEEPS SEEKING OUT COLIN WHEN SHE'S TALKING TO HIM, SHE WANTS COLIN TO BE THE ONE WHO SEES HER (the way she seemingly keeps looking at him and Ben at the Moon and Stars Ball clip in the trailer)

idk, she finds a perfect mans on paper, gets her makeover, gets her confidence up, and she's this close to winning in the Regency London Game of Life, and she STILL can't help looking back towards the one thing she really wants- her eat pray love boo making just the saddest eyes at her, which is fair and valid Pen, those beautiful blue eyes really do shine when he's being kind ❤❤❤

You’re so right tho !! I apologize if I don’t express this exactly how I want to bc my thoughts are all over the place 😭

but I think she wants to have someone look at her in the way that she sees Colin and admires him, and to be desired in a way that she’s seen so many other young lords and ladies be desired and wanted, so I can see how she’s so confident and feeling on top of the world with her new transformation. And then to have someone like Lord Debling take interest in HER right away and not the diamond of the season or any other leading lady must have her ecstatic, because that’s what she would like to have someone treat her as- desirable and love her for her and all of her traits that no one seems to notice (except for Eloise and Colin respectively) and Lord Debling is giving her exactly that. So far from what we’ve seen and heard them say is that he’s respectful and likes her for her and has all of the qualities and attributes that someone like Pen would like to see or find in a husband, but she just CAN’T shake whatever she still feels for Colin, even tho she’s very clearly making efforts to try and get over her long held feelings.

As much as love triangles frustrate me (because a lot of the times they’re done in a very silly manner and create drama for the sake of drama) I think it will be very well done this season. And I say that because while it’s Pen and Colin are figuring out their feelings despite having Debling in the picture, I don’t think they’ll continue it to the point where Lord Debling is taken advantage of (like Pen accepting a proposal and then breaking it off etc etc) and I think they’ll give us a very delicious hint of a triangle without actually making it a full-blown triangle. I really don’t think Pen will develop any deep feelings for Debling, and if she does, I assume it’ll be more out of admiration and understanding than of actual attraction or love (because she still resides those feelings for Colin even if she doesn’t quite realize she’s doing so)

i had to think about this team bc once again, so insanely hard to pretend this is live. zoi was just good onstage, tegan has that voice, and tk surprised me. they clearly want preemy gone tho i hate it hereee

honestly i love love love this team composition but i don't think the stage really showed their strongest points...i think a different wayv song would've made all the difference tbh

tbh there are some people here with lots of screentime who i don't understand the hype for, although both of them did better than their auditions. anyways yeham!!! she barely got screentime apart from her lines but i loved her voice with this concept tbh, it added a much needed freshness? brightness? to the performance. i need to see a full stage ver with no cuts though

7. team: love destiny 2

pangjang just has the voice, what is there to say really. i feel soooooo bad for ninnint, she did well but this was really not the song for her. fly high girlie 😔✊️

seoyeon has greater ability than a lot of the contestants but her energy really isn't there to the point where i can't help but wonder if it's on purpose...?

the chaba krista rjing vocal meal in the beginning was so sick omg

the rest of the performance didn't really click even though no one was bad at all. need maliya to be saved though like that's a Face

picking a winner is tough for this team because you have some singers who can't dance/perform & some dancers who don't sing as well. in truth pream, rjing, xueyao, and maybe maliya are the most balanced, but xueyao in particular didn't really stand out. pream stood out because of her center time, but this is far from her best (her presence is usually a lot stronger). maybe id go with rjing? but id need to see a full stage with no cuts

10. team: pieces of love

you have to suspend your disbelief a bit with these shows but i couldn't even pretend this was live & it's so distracting 😭 yuan ke & jessica are my next picks but i need them to focus more on facial expressions

my top 9?

honestly i've had a really hard time coming up with a group, if only because i genuinely like 47ish of the contestants (others i dont like or simply don't know). also, i do think it'd be nice for most of the group to be thai. i scrolled through the contestants and just picked the first 9 that i saw who made me go "yeah, you" lmfao and this is what i ended up with:

yean feels virtually indispensable at this point. she can dance, she's a great pop vocalist, and she can fit any concept. the show is also very on her side.

wang ke's performance in 7 rings convinced me of her star power (honestly she's been hit or miss to me until this point). wang ke didn't need to be the best singer or dancer to stand out on stage, it's her energy that really sets her apart and that's a hard skill to learn.

tegan...she's just a surprisingly strong contestant. i wasn't really a fan of how she acted during the theme song arc (all 7.5 minutes of it, lol) but i do understand that she was trying to lighten the mood. from the theme song to round one she showed that she really could hold her own on stage if she put her mind to it. other factors: star quality, demographic appeal, growth idolism, unique tone/strong vocals

rose is my underrated pick. she has a great voice and i think she can be styled to fit a number of concepts. she hasn't gotten much screentime, but i really hope she makes round 2, just to force the show to show more of her strengths. in some ways she's a little bit filler here, but i think she's necessary for the group to gel

ruan, our summer dream center...idk i just like her a lot. she suits different concepts and is super super hardworking & serious about this, while also being really kind. i want to see her learning/speaking more thai and english hopefully!

qiao yiyu is a talent & demographic pick (and one of my overall main picks at this point) she's another member who i see as indispensable. she's a main dancer who can fit multiple styles (but she's also for the girlies). in this pic she kinda looks like yuqi? lmfao

p.amp, my other totally biased pick 🥲 she's so gorgeous onstage and has so much presence i don't understand why the masses aren't seeing her 😭. she's a filler visual here but hot take, we don't need a wannabe gangsta rapper who can't dance self proclaimed quote unquote "real rapper" in the lineup when so many gg raps are pre-written and last for max 4 lines. p.amp can do it while dancing, being charming, and looking hot. i rest my case

geumhee is my pick of the csr members, although duna's rank is the best & seoyeon is the one getting a storyline. geumhee would be slightly filler here, but her singing ability would make her a lead vocal, and he experience and preexisting intl audience would make her indispensable. tbh she's the first member i personally noticed in csr, but i think that csr could live for a couple years without her and then benefit from her return.

mingming is good, although im generally on the fence about her. she has great lead vocal potential and is very likable. i kind of think the mindy members will be fine if none of them make it, but i do feel her voice is a little wasted there.

nationalities: 4 thailand, 2 china, 1 usa, 1 japan, 1 south korea

other contestants to consider:

pailiu! i really like her (and she's currently rank 2) but im not seeing a group that she fits into in the top ranks. maybe if maliya, jessica, xueyao, yuanke, p.amp, jaoying, etc were a bit higher. it's too soon to tell though i suppose

elyn's (#1) fanbase is really showing out for her considering the relatively minimal screentime she's had. her vocals aren't as strong as rose's, but she could potentially replace her in the lineup and add more (in terms of fan loyalty & demographic appeal).

emma not making my off the top of my head top 9 was really unexpected! i make the top 9 and then went wait where's emma? i think i would replace mingming with her, although honestly? emma's a star and should probably try to go to a company with some power, like perhaps yuehua china. for a survival show group, it's good that she stands out as an individual but in terms of cohesion...eh. she couldn't be filler, but she also probably couldn't be the star with the rest of this lineup. it's tough

absolutely LOVE krista's voice, but the reason i stopped voting for her is that she is kind of an absolutely miserable dancer. the great part is that she's super young, and can train to work on her dancing & her stage presence + facial expressions. krista (and others) make me wish that chuang was like produce japan, where the funding company (there lapone, here ryce) takes on trainees from the show for future permanent or temporary groups. krista would be a great candidate for that.

kitty, natty, & jaoying i noticed for the first time this round. i don't have much to say but they would be very solid filler members (not a drag, btw). im looking forward to seeing more of them!

yuan ke & wan yan jiayi are growing kind of indispensable if they want to have a foothold in china it seems. my personal pick would be yuan ke, but i think jiayi is moreso on the rise.

TBH i have 21 more contestant photos saved but let me just move onto another potential top 9

all i did was replace rose & mingming with elyn & emma, which brings the nationality count to: 2 thailand, 3 china, 1 japan, 1 usa, 1 malaysia, 1 south korea. see but now i'd say they need at least one more thai member! now sort of i want to put jaoying in over elyn lol. oh well 🤷🏿‍♀️

1. rv run devil run = 10/10 SOOOOOOOO perfect. loved the new arrangement love how they distributed the lines love the outfits love the execution like omggggg. this + be natural and a blunt

2. tvxq psycho = 9.5/10 was actually really impressed by this even though i wished they had done a seulrene song. other psycho covers currently found dead in a ditch. loved the arrangement (i do feel like they could've made it more tvxq tho) and i like how they distributed the lines. everything was so cunty. we need more male artists covering female artists like this

2.5 boa end of a day = 9/10 so beautiful and so respectful i literally couldn't help but cry. i'm so happy it was her that sang this. it's different from the ballads that she has in her discography and she did it so well with so much feeling. i'd give this a 10 if it was a shinee member singing it

3. wayv juliette = 9/10 my beautiful weishineev 💝 exactly as good as i expected it to be 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️ only not giving this a 10 because i wish they had used more grit in their voices when they sang. loved the line distribution and the tiedye outfits and the rearrangement (that xiaojun high note with the dreamy background was CRAZYYYYYYYYY)

4. exo git it up = 8.5/10 they actually went balls to the walls with this. you could see how much fun they were having. beautiful vocals and great stage presence and again i'm surprised i liked this bc i thought they'd fuck it up

5. aespa rum pum pum pum = 7/10 i am sad to report that i found it mid even tho it was the performance i was looking forward to the most.... i didn't like the stage outfits or how they distributed the lines or the way the girls were dancing the choreo, but i was happy to get the f(æ) moment i've been waiting for since 2020 lol. i liked some parts of it and i don't think it was bad, i just hoped it was better. maybe if they red light or nu abo or milk or pinocchio it would've been great

6. wish miracle = 6.5/10 well... not as bad as i thought it'd be. it's still weird to see them as five i guess but they did well.

7. suju i pray 4 u = 6/10 i thought theyd fuck it up (and hoped for it!) but it wasn't as bad as i wanted it to be lol. it was okay lol

8. 127 you in vague memory = 6/10 they had good energy... from what their manager said i was expecting to be blown away but its okay i guess lol

9. r**ze hug = 2/10 center 5 and sm need to have a bomb dropped on them for this atrocity

10. dream love me wrong = 1/10 my expectations were low but they managed to make it worse... hated the arrangement hated the clothes hated the way they sang hated the way they danced hated the dance break hated the rap parts like this is fr unsalvagable. why did they give one of sm best bg best songs to these guys. did they not think how stupid they'd look.
