My Most Ambitious Crossover

I got bored by posting only my second gen Amazon AU, so I’ll get back to that tomorrow, but enjoy this one-shot about Chloe and Marinette creating their own trip instead of their class trip in the meantime. Can’t have you all thinking I’m a one-trick pony, can I?

“-and that’s why we think you shouldn’t go on the trip this year.” Mlle. Bustier tried to look apologetic, but it was as much her idea as the students. Between Marinette refusing to set an example and Chloe associating with her, neither of them deserved to go.

“Oh, thank goodness. I was afraid I would have to get my daddy to donate 30% of the funds like he does every year.”

“I’m just glad I don’t have to take 60% of the trip funds out of my commission profits. That will give me a much bigger budget for fabric and accessories.” Everyone blanched at the statements of the 2 girls. They were saying that they paid for 90% of the trip every year, but that couldn’t be right. They worked so hard on fundraisers every year, they must be lying about how much they contribute.

Marinette just ignored them, turning to her seatmate. “Do you think that our other friends would want to go on a trip with us? Most classes take their trips during May, so we could leave at the beginning of June and take the entire summer.”

“Nice thinking, Maribug. With fewer people, prices go down and we can afford more bang for our buck.” They walk out of the classroom, discussing who to ask and when.

The class just made a big mistake.

By the time the weekend rolled around, Marinette and Chloe had their group list finalized. The people going on their trip were themselves, Luka, Kagami, Aurore, Mireille, and Marc. They got together and started brainstorming fundraisers.

Marinette started. “There are the given examples; you know, car wash, bake sale, raffle. What else?”

“We could host a show.” Luka suggested.

“Like an exhibition?” Marinette asked. “We could have you perform, Kagami do a fencing demonstration, and I could do a small fashion show, using Chloe and Marc as models. Aurore and Mireille could be our MCs.”

“To capitalize on money-making, we could sell tickets, food and drink, and merch for Luka’s solo career as well as commission spots for our resident designer.”

“That’s good.” Marinette starts scribbling in the shared notebook.

“At Le Grande Paris, we could host parties. I know days when the grand ballroom is open. We could host an auction, sell lessons and creations and stuff. We could also host a masquerade ball that we sell tickets for. We could charge for food and drink. The pools are open for private reservation quite often, we could have parties there too.” Chloe takes the notebook and starts writing down her ideas, mapping out all the resources needed while muttering.

“We could also host a carnival or a gaming tournament in the ballroom.” Kagami looked thoughtful. “I’ve never actually been to one.”

Chloe added that to the list. “Should we do anything else?”

“We could start a go-fund-me. Artists and writers do it all the time to get their creations off the ground.” Marc murmured.

“That would be great. What’s our goal for this entire endeavor?”

“Our goal, Maribug, is €45,000. That should cover travel, boarding, tours, food, and souvenirs. Whatever we don’t spend gets redistributed to the group.” Chloe supplies.

“Then that should be it. Nice job, guys!”

“My, what a whirlwind of a planning session. I hope nothing rains on our parade. I wonder weather Mlle. Bustier’s class is doing this well.” Aurore beams at them.

“Mm-hmm.” Mireille agrees with Aurore.

“Probably not. Our classmates couldn’t pour water out of a boot with instructions on the heel. They’ll just listen to Lila that the boot will empty by itself through the toe because ‘I worked on patenting this boot’, then they’ll get mad at the boot for not doing it.” Chloe chuckles dryly.

“Be nice.” Marinette reprimands half-heartedly.

Chloe immediately filed the paperwork with the school board so they could go on their trip with no safety or legal concerns. She recruited Mme. Mendeleiev and M. D'Argencourt to be their chaperones, who were more than happy to go on an all-expenses-paid trip to Los Angeles, Star City, Central City, Metropolis, Gotham, New York City, and Tokyo.

They had their first fundraiser at the end of September, a pool party at Le Grande Paris. Even Mlle. Bustier’s class attended, though they didn’t know who had set it up, only that Luka was performing. They hadn’t even started their planning yet. The group made €3,041.

The next was a car wash in the middle of October. It was cool enough for a car wash to be pleasant while being warm enough that everyone was still out and about. They earned €2,632. Bustier's class was getting ice cream and listening to Lila brag.

They then had an All Hallow’s Eve bake sale, complete with candy decoration reminiscent of the American holiday. They earned €1,800.

During November, they held a carnival, with a full fall theme. It was wildly popular with families from all over Paris, earning them €6,483. It was around this time that Mlle. Bustier’s class held a bake sale, and earned €1,594. They celebrated.

Throughout the holiday season, they took advantage of peoples’ spirit. They held a raffle throughout the 12 Days of Christmas, while also holding a bake sale the day before winter break. Overall, they earned €10,749.

Over winter break, Chloe bought plane tickets and reserved tours and hotels, so all that was left was to get money for the tours and food. They were over halfway to their goal.

During January, they rented a theater, and held their exhibition. They had a crowd of fencing enthusiasts, rock music lovers, and fashion followers. They made €5,830.

They held a date auction and a masquerade to celebrate Valentine’s Day. It was amazing, and they earned €7,284.

They had checked their go-fund-me, and had found that €10,000 was there, putting them €2,819 over their goal. They were ecstatic!

They still held the gaming tournament at the end of April, but let it be free for everyone to enjoy as their celebration of reaching their goal.

Mlle. Butsier’s class had made €7,000 over their 3 fundraisers, and they were pretty proud of themselves. No doubt they would be going somewhere much better than whatever Maribrat and Chloe have planned. Once the girls walked into the classroom, the class started to brag.

“We’ve finished fundraising!”

Marinette smiled and decided to be nice to them. “Cool. Where are you going?”

“We are going to New York City.”

Chloe was not as kind. “Oh, so are we! It was so hard to raise the €45,000 needed for our trip, but we did it. It was so euphoric to meet our goal. How much did you guys raise?”

“We made €7,000.” The smiles slowly slipped off the faces of the class. “What do you mean the €45,000 needed?”

“Well, we needed to cover food, travel, boarding, and tours, and that was just for the 7 of us. I can’t imagine what the budget would’ve been like for an entire class.” Her smile got an edge, like a lioness who knew she had cornered her prey.

Her classmates blanched. “What was our budget, Alya?” Rose looked towards their new class representative, hoping that she had an answer.

“We never had one.”

“Well, at least you filed the paperwork right?”

“What paperwork?”

Marinette responded this time. “The paperwork needed to go on a trip. You were supposed to submit it to the school board for approval of safety and legality. It was on page 17 of the packet I gave you at the beginning of the year. Didn’t you read it, Alya?”

“I-I-no. Lila said that was just extra work that you had given me to throw me off my game. She said you didn’t actually need to do all of that.”

“I didn’t know that Lila had more experience being a class representative than me and Marinette, the only 2 people who have ever been class representative here.” Chloe’s voice became as sharp and sweet as her smile. “Well, have fun with your trip. Marinette and I have to do last-minute checks on our arrangements.”

The class looked at the people that had carried them the previous years, and realized how much they relied on the girls. Lila was cursing herself for pushing away the only people who actually did anything in this class.

The class ended up going to Disneyland Paris, and tried their best to look as upbeat as possible on their social medias. Meanwhile, The group was having the time of their lives.

They stayed in LA for 2 weeks, visiting movie sets and meeting actors. They spent another week just going on everything at Disneyland and California Adventure.

They then spent a week in Star City, touring Queen Industries and having a meet and greet with Oliver Queen and his ward, Roy Harper, who seemed to enjoy Aurore’s outgoing personality. They even saw the vigilantes.

They spent another 2 weeks in Central City, touring STAR Labs and watching the rogues try to fight the Flash family. It was the most meta-filled city in the world, and They toured a forensics lab with Bart Allen. Chloe seemed grimly pleased with seeing the bodies. She might’ve been projecting certain people onto them, not that she would ever admit it.

2 weeks in Metropolis was really fun. They toured the Daily Planet with Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Mireille was amazed by what you could do to report without having to be in front of a screen. They made a scavenger hunt of how many Supers they could find, and they found 2 different superboys. Lex Corp also gave them a tour, although it was more professional than the tour of the Daily Planet.

They spent 1 week in Gotham. They toured Wayne Enterprises and stayed out of the Bats’ way. Luka got the phone number of Tim Drake. Marinette enjoyed the inspiration that the gothic architecture brought her. There wasn’t much of a nightlife scene, considering only fools stay out after dark in Gotham.

Their 1 week in New York City was hectic. The Avengers were all at the tower when they were touring with Pepper Potts by Chloe’s request. Chloe might’ve been unofficially adopted by Tony Stark when she stood up to them and made them ‘cease their bullshit’. The Black Widow also took a liking to the girl. They also ran into these weird teens muttering about monsters when they were waiting for the elevator at the Empire State Building.

2 weeks in Tokyo. Their last stop. They visited the prestigious Ouran Academy, the host club getting Marc to come out of their shell by constantly helping boost his self-esteem. Chloe enjoyed talking business and finances with Kyoya Ootori. Kagami led them all in a traditional tea ceremony, before they all stormed the streets to try the unfamiliar street food.

Marinette ended up being unofficially adopted by 3 heroes, 2 rogues, and 5 billionaires. She was happy getting to spend 7 weeks on the road with only her closest friends.

The class was incredibly jealous of the trip their classmates took. They hoped next year they could go on a trip like that as well, but they had missed their shot.

Graphic Design is such a chore sometimes. :P So what is this, exactly? This was inspired by Coloring Bliss on YouTube, who uses the sheet that inspired this one for her colored pencil reviews. Since the moment I saw it I was hoping she'd eventually release it for others to use because it seemed so thorough and useful. I remember a while back in a video she mentioned they were thinking about making it available on their website, but that was a while ago and I was unsure if it ever came to fruition and also got a little impatient; So I decided to make my own. This technically works out a little better since I was able to customize it to my personal needs. And I did specifically go out of my way to make mine different in some aspects to hopefully stay out of trouble. Likewise and also because if they ever do release theirs to the public it will likely only be for the "Premium" or higher members on their website, I'm posting mine for free. Now, the above image, as I said, was custom made to suit my own needs, and I'll go pretty blow-by-blow over what's here and my intention in a second, but just in case, if you hit the download button on the right, in the .ZIP file I've also included a "blank" version that does not have the Tan/Gray Paper slots filled in and named and the testing boxes at the bottom do not have labels, so that if you so desire you can better customize it to fit your own needs, too. My major rules for either version (the regular one or the "blank" one) are: 1. Please DO NOT remove the "Created by MysticSparkleWings" Mark 2. Please DO NOT re-upload or redistribute the empty worksheets without my explicit written permission (If you've say, filled one out for a review/blog post/etc. and want to upload it, that's fine as long as you follow Rule 1) Now then, as for my intention of how you would actually use this (or at least how I'm going to use it): Up at the top, left to right, we have the "Color Samples & Mixing Test" and instructions, and an area for information about the pencils. Hopefully, these are pretty self-explanatory. The Color Samples I personally will be picking based on my Pocket Color Wheel for the Primaries (Red, Yellow, Blue), and then using those three to mix the Secondaries (Orange, Purple, Green). This tests both mixing ability and color matching/how the color choices for that particular set were to a certain extent, and when completed will also be a nice pop of color to the page . Then you would give that test a Star Rating. Same with Packaging Appearance of the pencils under the information section; I used Star Ratings because that just makes more sense to me to be able to quickly compare different sets, as well as it might be helpful when recommending pencils to others or writing a review. Also, I will note before moving on that by "Available Colors" I meant "Number of Colors Available," but the former fit better both in terms of space and in terms of how it sounds to me. It wouldn't make sense to try and write literally every single color name on that one little line. Oh, and the "Core" line is for the size of the core and stuff like if it's wax or oil-based. Moving on, we have what I call a "Pigment Check" even though it's not labeled, the Softness/Durability Test, and a box for Notes. The Pigment check is meant to test how well the white pencil works if the set came with one (which is particularly important to me), how true of a black the black is (again, using my Pocket Color Wheel), and to see an example of how well they show up on my toned tan/toned gray papers, each section with its own star rating. (I didn't just fill in a solid color; I grabbed pieces of the paper in Photoshop from scanned pictures I had so they would at least visually mimic the look/texture so I don't have to go chop off triangles every time I need to test some pencils) The Softness/Durability Test is a slight modification of Coloring Bliss's "Core Usage Test." It's meant to provide an opportunity to judge how soft the core of the pencil is, if it has any issues with breaking, and it'll give an idea of how layering works with them. The idea is to do three layers; light pressure, medium pressure, and hard pressure, to fill in the circle completely. This also provides an opportunity to see how long the pencil can go before it needs sharpening and then how it sharpens, and then all of that gets another star rating. (And me personally I might end up writing over top of the finished test with a Gel Pen as a test of how they work over the pencils, as I've had issues with that in the past and couldn't manage to squeeze a dedicated Gel Pen Test area in this already packed sheet). The Notes area is for things you might notice during testing, additional tests you might have, any star ratings you need to explain to yourself, etc. Stuff like that. I wanted to have at least a moderate bit of space for that, just in case. Then we have the erasing test, which is explained on the sheet pretty well, I think. I didn't give this one a star rating partly because it was a little tight and also because I didn't think it was necessary. No colored pencils erase perfectly, and generally speaking, results will vary from color to color. And for me personally, I just need to see how well (or not) it lifts off to determine if that's something I need to be worried about or not. The "Overall Rating" Is technically next as we move down the page; And again I think this should be pretty self-explanatory. This is essentially what you would rate them on a site like Amazon, though there are two ways you could go about getting this rating: 1. Be like me and just go with your gut after taking all of the tests and information into consideration, or 2. Average all the other star ratings together. At the bottom, we have arguably the most important section: All the other tests. For me, I have one for layering, blending, blending with the Derwent Blender Pencil, blending with a Colorless Alcohol Marker blender (my choice being the Prismacolor Brush one), and an area to test water resistance; All things I've found myself doing repeatedly on scrap paper. This way I'll have all the tests in one dedicated place where I can refer back to them at any time. But you can write in whatever tests you want on the blank version since I figured not everyone would want to test the same things as me. (This was actually a sticking point with me on Coloring Bliss's; If that version was released there were some tests included that I just simply wouldn't use because they aren't techniques I practice, etc.) I think this will be a good resource for myself to figure out what pencils do what things best, and in theory, I'll be wasting less scrap paper and time trying to test things as they come up. Plus, I'll have more of a standard when doing pencil reviews. (Though all of the tests are based on things I was already checking for; that'll just make it easier to compare and to refer back to after I've not used them for a while). It took my three days of on-and-off working and tweaking, but I think it was worth it. Although if my printer would just print the thing the way I wanted it to begin with, I could've been done a little bit sooner. Which is my excuse for why the overall placement may be a bit off/weird. But hopefully, you guys can negotiate with your printer better than I can with mine. Like I really don't understand; I designed the thing on an 8.5"x11" canvas, so in theory there should have been literally no issue, but it kept trying to give it a border so I had to keep adjusting it bit by bit to get it to print in the right place, and I still haven't gotten it exactly perfect. But I did manage to get it close enough that I'm going to live with it until my knowledge of how to adjust the printer settings and what size canvas to use to manipulate it into printing correctly expands. Story

Intro

Smart Terrarium is the all in one system that provides the necessary information and automation to encourage a full and happy life for your reptiles. This system provides the user with the ability to monitor a variety of sensors in their animals habitat as well as control the lighting and misting system.

Backstory

This system was designed for my chameleon, Curie. She is a veiled chameleon and loves having her cage always kept in the optimal conditions. She is currently benefiting from the daily scheduled misting routines that the Smart Terrarium provides. This keeps her humidity in the appropriate range while also providing her with a nice place to cool off and get a drink.Another great part of having the Smart Terrarium is peace of mind. You no longer need to randomly check on the status of the mister bucket water level. You can always rely on the Smart Terrarium to notify you when you are running low. Also get notifications when the drain bucket is approaching maximum capacity.The most important part of this setup is the monitoring of the UV light. Chameleons require UV-B to produce Vitamin D. When a chameleon does not absorb enough calcium a chameleon can develop abnormalities in bone growth, rachitis, Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD) or just get very weak bones that are prone to breaking. The Smart Terrarium provides constant monitoring of UV light and can notify the user when the average UV index is below a certain threshold.

Hardware

This project uses a Raspberry Pi 3, an Arduino Uno, and a ArduinoMKR1000. The Raspberry Pi acts as our main system receiving readings from the Uno and MKR1000. The Pi also acts as a web server which delivers our app to the client when a user wants to monitor their system. They simply log in to a web page allowing them to interact with the Smart Terrarium from anywhere around the globe.

Raspberry Pi 3 A+

The MKR1000 is the main workhorse for getting sensor data and it sends its readings every second over wifi to the web server running on the Raspberry Pi. It has the following sensors connected to it:

The Arduino Uno is connected to the

Raspberry Pi via USB. It is used to monitor the water levels and also control the relays for the lights and misting pump. It has the following hardware connected:(2) HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Sensor

Software

This system leverages the following open source software:Node.jsJohnny-fiveRethinkDBFirmataVue

Backend

The Raspberry Piis running an Express web server which collects readings from the sensors and saves them to a RethinkDB instance. The readings are being reported to the Pi every second so the user has access to the most current measurements.

The readings are saved every 5 minutes in Rethink DB for historical data.The Uno is running the PingFirmataSketch and using serial to expose the proximity sensors and relays to the Pi using Firmata protocol. The Pi leverages Johnny-five to allow the user to program in javascript.The MKR1000 is running a custom sketch using OneWire for the 5 temperature probes and then using analog inputs for the other sensors.

It posts the values to the Pi every second making sure the readings the user sees are fresh.

Frontend

The Raspberry Pi also serves up the front end portion of this app which leverages Vue.js. It allows the user to log in from anywhere having complete control over their pet's environment. The app works on any modern web browser so you can access it from a computer, tablet, or phone.The Smart Terrarium app allows the user to view the latests readings along with a sparkline graph of the previous day's historical data.The user can click through on any of the sensors

to view their history data.

The Measurements page shows a graph with the entire sensor history. The user can select a section of the bottom graph to display a zoomed in version in the graph above. This allows the user to inspect the historic data for any spikes or dips where the environment is out of the norm.The user has the ability to schedule events including lighting and misting events.

The Event page displays the currently scheduled events and allows the user to add, edit, and delete events. These events are used to automate the lighting and misting sessions which provides peace making sure you never forget.

The Controls page allows the user to manually override the scheduled lighting and misting events. The page displays the current status of each relay and allows the user to toggle them with a click of a button.The Admin page allow the user to enter information about themselves for contact purposes. This is for the email notifications on high/low water levels on misting system as well as notifications for when the daily average UV index gets too low. There is also a spot for the animals birthday so we can provide birthday notifications.

Our current kitties are pretty low maintenance. They get regular brushing to avoid hairballs, and Zoe requires a monthly pedicure. But when Max, our thick-coated Siberian, drooled all over his fluffy fur while recovering from dental surgery, I was sure glad we had some cat grooming supplies on hand. I grabbed a cat-friendly shampoo and gave poor Max a quick clean-up.

To help you gather your own stash of must-have cat grooming supplies, we’ve put together this list. It starts with the basics (brushes, combs, and tooth-cleaning supplies) and moves on to the nice-to-have items (nail clippers, shampoo, towel, and a variety of wipes for eyes and ears).

Of course, the challenge with some cats is to get them to accept these healthy and often necessary treatments. The experts suggest introducing your cat to grooming sessions as soon as possible after they join your household. Start by petting them and shift gradually into massaging, brushing, or combing. Add a few treats to make the sessions appealing. You’ll find plenty of tips in these articles on how to groom a cat and the best cat brushes.

Tackling Baths, Tooth Care, and Fleas

While regular brushing is important, you’ll be relieved to hear that your cat does not need regular bathing! Certified Master Groomer Rose Silcox-Rither, the owner of Better Kitty in Seattle, reminds us that cats are desert creatures. They clean themselves, and washing may remove the natural oils their skin needs.

But what about the times that your kitty requires “spot cleaning” or gets in a real mess that might call for a real bath? (This is particularly true for older cats or cats who are seriously ill—or for a frightened cat who has a pooping accident in her carrier.)

You can handle it, but you’ll need to avoid bath soaps or human shampoos, which can irritate your cat’s skin. There are some great soap-free pet shampoos, but avoid pet products that contain essential oils (some essential oils are toxic to cats).

Silcox-Rither says you can always use Dawn dishwashing liquid, diluted. The unperfumed product is used to safely clean wild animals even more sensitive to chemicals than our domestic cats. “It gets out grease and dirt, and a little goes a long way,” she says. “Take a very wet washcloth with a little Dawn to clean the spot, and then use another wet washcloth to rinse.”

No discussion of grooming supplies would be complete without a mention of the basic (and inexpensive) flea comb. Use it to check for fleas and flea dirt, or to remove fleas. There is no need to panic if fleas turn up—but check out this article on the best flea treatments for cats.

Last, but not least, a few words about tooth cleaning. Dental care should have a regular place on your cat’s grooming schedule to remove plaque and bacteria and prevent the buildup of tartar. If your cat is up for it, you can try tooth brushing, using a special cat-size toothbrush and flavored pet toothpaste with pet-safe ingredients. If toothbrushing sessions are not going over well with your kitty, there are some alternatives. Silcox-Rither says it’s easier on the cat (and safer for your own fingers) if you give your cat special dental chew-treats (just one or two a day) or a use a drinking water additive that promotes dental health.

Whether it’s a dental care session or an emergency shampooing, your grooming session with your kitty will go better if you have the right supplies. Here a list of gentle-but-effective brushes and combs, along with nail clippers, washing supplies, tooth cleaning gear, and wipes.

This basic slicker cat brush is one of the cat grooming supplies you’ll reach for most often. It’s easy to use and comfortable for both the cat and the person doing the grooming. After you’ve removed dead hair and dirt with the rake, the slicker brush smooths fur and redistributes healthy oils, giving the coat an attractive sheen.

This soft-bristled toothbrush for pets has a large and a small brush—you’ll want to use the smaller end for kittens and most cats. Gentle cleanings with this brush and a cat-specific toothpaste will keep your cat’s teeth healthy and help prevent painful gingivitis.

She recommends getting this type of inexpensive clippers specially designed for cat claws—not ones designed for dogs or humans. “The less fancy, the better,” she says.

On September 16, 1999, Governor Gray Davis signed Senate Bill 820 making California the first state to adopt an electronic contracting law. The law went into effect January 1, 2000. Its primary purpose is to "ensure that electronic contracts (records and signatures) have the same legal effect as their hardcopy counterparts." In addition, the law legalizes electronic signatures and even extending the electronic signature, under certain circumstances, to satisfy requirements that a signature be notarized. The law, however, only applies to transactions where the contracting parties have agreed in advance to be bound by an electronic transaction.

Maybe the law’s most extreme fault is that it fails to cover all transactions. The following contracts are excluded:

• Wills, codicils, and testamentary trusts. • Certain transactions governed by various consumer protection laws (for example, notice of mortgage late fees, non-judicial foreclosure notices, and statements of finance charges). • Any transaction under the Automobile Sales Finance Act or the Vehicle Licensing Act. • Some retail installment sales contracts.

Even with these shortcomings, the law undoubtedly will have a significant effect on the future of contract law in California and the nation.
