Declawing the Cat - Chapter 3

(Sorry it took so long guys, between testing and homework and executive functioning, I could NOT get this done. Anyways,

“Father, do I have to go?” Adrien asked for the hundredth time.

“Of course Adrien. I refuse to go on a business trip as important as this one without you. You’re my son.”

Felix rolled his eyes. He and his mother were visiting the two bachelors (against his actual will, obviously). Everyone in the room knew the real reason why Adrien had to go; he was the face of the brand, and it was common fashion knowledge that to go to such a high-ranking event without your leading model would get you shunned and cancelled. ‘You’re my son’ EVERYONE’S arse.

It was obvious that Adrien was all too aware of this fact, because he couldn’t seem to run out of excuses for why he couldn’t go.

Well, he could also not wish to go because of how brain-numbingly boring the whole affair is, and honestly, who could blame him? This year’s Annual Pre-Junior’s Fashion Competition Assembly was being held in Sydney, and all of the biggest names in the industry were going to attend. The assembly takes place over the course of two. Entire. Months. For what, not even the attendees know. Felix swears, these designers were as mad as a bag of ferrets.

I mean, if you’re into that sort of thing, like Miss I’m-all-that Ginger Breadhouse, you’d probably be in Seventh Heaven there, but if you were, how do you say, normal, you’d sell your soul to be another else. In fact, Felix could almost bet Chat Noir’s Miraculous that Adrien would sign that demonic contract in a heartbeat if that were an option.

“But Father, what about school? I’ll miss so much instruction-”

“Natalie will tutor you, just like she did before you attended that … institution.”

“And my fencing practice? Surely, you wouldn’t want me to miss out on those.”

“Adrien, are you suggesting that they don’t have fencing areas in Sydney?”

“No, I’m just saying that fencing without Kagami wouldn’t be the same…”

“Well, you aren’t going to be fencing with her forever, so think of this as a sample for the future. Now, no more of this arguing, Adrien. You are going to the Assembly and that’s final. Have I made myself clear?”

Adrien’s shoulders slumped in defeat and for a heartbeat, Felix felt sympathetic. “Yes, Father.”

“Good, now go pack some clothes you will need for the weeks. We won’t be at the events the entire time, so I will permit you to bring some of your own wardrobe. Please remember we will be there for a long time, so pack accordingly.”

And with that, they were all dismissed. Adrien trugged upstairs looking particularly peeved. He invited Felix to come with him, and Felix agreed, but only to keep up appearances. If he knew any better, Felix would have sworn that he heard him talking to someone on the way up, but he decided to ignore it; he couldn’t be bothered to guess what weird habits his wanker of a cousin had.

Once they got to Adrien’s room, Felix sat himself down at the piano while Adrien took out a suitcase from his closet and started choosing some informal clothing for when they were just doing day-to-day activities.

“Can you believe that he’s making me go, Felix?”

“Yes, I can believe it.”

“AND we have to leave tomorrow! I won’t even get the chance to say goodbye to our friends.

“Not to worry, cousin dearest. I’ll tell them for you. Anyways, don’t look at this trip as a burden, look at it as a new opportunity. You can gather information and resources for your friend Marinette.”

Adrien’s face brightened at the mention of his friend and Felix rolled his eyes when his back was turned. He swears, all it takes to cheer him up was to be reminded that Pigtails was alive and well somewhere on the planet.

“You’re right, Felix! This way I can help her pursue her dreams! I can’t wait until we get back to tell her everything I’ve learned about the industry.”

“...Can’t you just text or call her?”

“You mean with my phone?”

“No Adrien, I mean with a plastic banana you can buy at the baby store. Yes I mean your phone!”

Adrien paused in the middle of folding a t-shirt and packing it into a suitcase. “I didn’t tell you? Father confiscated it for ‘my own good’. He thinks I spend too much time around my friends and not enough time focusing on my studies, so it’s with him for the time being.”

Well, there goes Felix’s plan to pull a quick cell prank before Adrien leaves. “Adrien Bartholomew Agreste, is that resent I hear in your voice?”

“Yes, it is. I’m tired of responsibilities and having people depend on me every second that I breathe. That’s why I wanted to go to school in the first place; it gives me eight hours of non-Agreste related freedom.”

Felix narrowed his eyes. What did this boy know about responsibilities? All he had to do was play a keyboard, wave a stick around, and look pretty for pictures. Felix couldn’t understand how a job like that could burden someone so badly.

“Goodness, Adrien. You make it sound as though Uncle asks you to carry the weight of the entire ever-loving world on your shoulders.”

Adrien sighed. “That’s just how I feel, sometimes. Anyways, I think these are all of the casual clothing Father will let me take with me. Maybe if I’m lucky, he might not see the video game I hid under them all.”

The next day was a Saturday, so Felix the delivery boy was going to have to give the mega-twits the message at a later time. Today, it was all about acting as emotional as he could for the departure of his Cousin & Co. gabriel thought it would be a good idea for Felix and his mother to stop by the mansion every once in a while to make sure everything was all right, accounted for, and in the case of the house plants, watered. This was news to Felix. He doubted his uncle was even a living being, let alone the type of person to have plants in his home. Right now, they were standing next to the family limo. Natalie and gabriel were talking to Ape Man about transportation in Australia.

“Oh, darling Adrien, I’m so sad to see you go. We only just now got here, and you’re leaving. Why must the fates keep up apart?”

“It’s alright, Aunt Amilie. We’ll be back before you even realize we’re gone.”

“We? Oh, I wasn’t talking about your father, dear. I wouldn’t mind some time away from him. Anyways, I hope you have the best time in Australia. Bring something back for me, will you? I’ve always wanted to get a real boomerang, ever since I was a young girl.”

“I’ll be sure to get you the best boomerang in the country, Aunt A. What about you Felix? Do you want me to get you anything?”

Felix, who was standing some ways behind the others, pretended to ponder it over. “Bring me a friendship bracelet.”

“...A friendship bracelet?”

“If you can’t find one it’s okay I really don’t mind-”

“No, I’ll get you a bracelet. I was only surprised because you aren’t really the type to want one.”

He’s right- there was no way on Good Green Earth would he want some dingly little arts and crafts project. There also wasn’t any way that maybe he wanted his cousin thinking about him during his trip, that he wanted to envision Adrien getting something for him. Don’t even think about considering that Felix felt bad for him, dealing with the devil himself in a new place and wanting to give him something to do. Nope. Not a chance. Felix simply thought that Adrien would look hilarious running around Australia looking for beads and twine.

“...Just make sure you make me a good one, alright?”

Adrien smiled as though he could read right into Felix’s mind, and of course he had to look completely handsome in doing so. Stupid model. They practically had the same face and somehow Felix ended up looking like the off-brand knockoff.

“Adrien, we have to go now. The plane leaves in five hours,” gabriel said, entering the car.

“Why do we need to leave so soon?”

“So that I can buy fabrics with threads, gather all of my designs, double check with Natalie that the suite is still booked for us-”

“Alright, Father. I understand. Well, bye Felix. I’ll miss you.”

With that, he entered the limousine and the four of them drove away.

“Come Felix. Let’s go check the house for anything they might have accidentally left behind. We wouldn’t want them to leave something important,” said Amilie, still a little teary-eyed over the loss of her precious little baby nephew. She couldn’t stand the idea of being away from him for so long, even though his look-alike (her own bloody son) was right in front of her. Of course, Felix wasn’t bitter! Why wouldn’t ever say such a thing?

“Yes, Mother. Would you like me to check Adrien’s room?”

“Please, dear. Oh, look at you, watching over your cousin! And to think you said you wouldn’t like him!”

It was as though his mother never met him. Couldn’t she see that he was just trying to gain some sort of upper hand against Mr. Perfect or to uncover a secret of his? On the sunny side, at least he knows his facade is effective. He was beginning to worry that someone other than Blue-Eyed Phoenix Wright would figure him out.

Felix pushed open the door of Adrien’s room and immediately began to look around and turn things over. He was being extremely careful to make sure that everything he touched was put back in the place he got it from. After looking through his closet and library, however, he was disappointed to find that Adrien was actually as innocent as he seemed (and acted). In fact, the worst thing he could find was a disturbing amount of Ladybug memoria. It was a pity, really. Felix hadn’t blackmailed anyone in a long time, and he was beginning to get antsy. He turned around and headed out.

“Adrien, is that you? I thought you said you weren’t going to come back for another two months.”

Felix did a complete 180 and faced the source of the voice, which seemed to be some sort of floating cat-thing. It looked like a deer in headlights.

“You aren’t Adrien. Wait, are you okay, you seem to be swaying-?”

The thing was right; he was feeling woozy, and it didn’t take him that long to hit the floor, having fainted. The last thing he heard was the talking cat muttering,

“Shit.”

Where were you three hours ago? Was passed out on the living room couch and probably dreaming away, lmao.

Have you had anything alcoholic in the last 24 hours? Hmm, I’m trying to remember but I don’t think so. I went outside to eat, but I doubt they put any alcohol in my meal since I literally had a truffle-based pasta. No plans to drink this weekend, either.

How long have you known your 1st phone contact? At least since the 6th grade cos I think that’s when she had transferred to my school.

Are they a relative? Nope, I went to school with her. We were seatmates for a while in sophomore year and that’s when I was able to see how talented she was at drawing and painting. She ended up transferring to UP as well after getting accepted to the fine arts program so we got to be collegemates as well, though I don’t really remember what university she initially got admitted to.

Would you ever consider getting back together with any of your exes? Yeah, because I’m a dumb fuck when it comes to these things. I WILL SAY though that I’ll be so much kinder to myself should this ever happen, and no longer tolerate her bullshit and emotional/mental abuse under the guise of ~unconditional love. There’ll be a lot of shit she’ll have to pick up and fix, and I wouldn’t get back with her unless she acknowledges her mistakes and seek to correct them.

Would you ever go skinny dipping with the last person who commented you? That would be Leigh, and no. Idk if I’ve shared this or if this has ever come up on a survey but Andi actually once asked me if I’d like to be a part of a threesome with them and Leigh, and I just had to immediately decline because I view Leigh as a younger sister more than anything and I can’t bear to see her all naked loooool.

When was the last time you saw a movie in theaters? December 2019.

When did you last talk to the last person you shared a kiss with? I think the morning of New Year’s Eve. I was already starting my healing process by then and the holidays were getting me feeling kind of peaceful, so I sent her a few voice notes thanking her for the year that was but giving her a heads-up that I might not talk to her for a while, because I realized I was starting to get happier on the days I didn’t force conversation with her.

I honestly thought ‘a while’ would only take a couple of weeks, but I’ve since gotten used without her presence and it’s been 3 1/2 months since our final encounter; and I think it will stay this way now.

Has anyone called you beautiful today? No.

Are you still friends with the last person who broke your trust? That would be JM, and yeah. I find him ridiculous for lying to our faces about joining a fraternity in law school (frats are a big yuck where I live because of their toxic hazing and misogynist culture), but I mean I still sort of understand why he had to do it - obviously not for the above reason, but for the perks and support that usually come with joining frats. From now on I’ll always see him as someone who can smoothly lie to my face, though.

Does drama seem to follow you everywhere? No. I would hate that lol, that would just be too much to handle.

Do you feel like anyone is playing mind games with you right now? No.

How would you feel if your best friend hooked up with your ex? I think my literal first reaction would be to laugh out of sheer disbelief, and then proceed to call her stupid for cheating and for choosing to cheat with her. After that’s died down, I think I’d mostly feel disappointed and betrayed.

How long did your last relationship last? The stint lasted 4 years, but we were technically together for 6 years if we’re counting the whole on/off thing.

If you knew you had the right person, would you marry them today? No. That’s what I had thought and they left. I’ve stopped trusting my feelings about these things anymore, and will assume anyone is capable of leaving.

Does it make you uncomfortable to talk on the phone around people? I just don’t want to be loud enough that I’m almost screaming around other people, but I can’t always monitor that since I have to concentrate on what I’m hearing on the other line.

Day 3 at Japan Expo Malaysia (28th July 2019)

Today was the last day. The day that I would last see the KiREI members. Cue gonna be a cry baby and go through Post Concert Depression (look it up hahah). Since I wanted to make the most of it, I wore the KiREI T-shirt I bought the first day I met them, which is gorgeous by the way (albeit it was a stock from their concert in Bangkok), especially the back side and I really love it!

As I said in the part one in Day 2’s report, I promised Hanapii that I was gonna draw an illustration for them. But here’s the thing, I initially thought to just post it on Twitter, but then my father said, “You should show them tomorrow” and that was exactly what I did! Now, the previous night’s adrenaline rush and fatigue was no joke, I was so exhausted, and my mind was so jumbled since I was still processing what happened at AKB48’s concert and at the airport (toldya it was VERY overwhelming). Thankfully I brought my drawing tablet in this trip (I don’t know why I did, but thank God I did). I barely finished sketching until I succumbed to exhaustion and went to sleep. The next morning I literally finished breakfast within 10 minutes and went back to our room and stayed there to finish the illustration. Since their last concert started at 2, and I had like 3 hours left to finish it (I wanted to be there by 1). Thankfully I finished on time and I quickly made my way to Pavilion.

When I arrived, once again I was surprised with the lack of people waiting at the stage (outdoor by the way), and this time I didn’t care what people thought and I just stood at the front row under the blazing sun, all in black clothes, and texting to my Discord fellas (lol). So first Austin and another host went up the stage and gave a quick introduction about KiREI and apparently KiREI was made up of 3 disbanded idol groups named “Tokyo Clear’s Smile” (this is the group where Hanapii originally came from, which I found out a couple nights ago lol), “Spring Chubit” and “Astarisk”. The girls were called in and dear gosh! Today they wore yukata again, but different designs than the first day! I just really like it when J-idols wear yukatas or any form of traditional clothing. It’s even more amazing that these girls were not just dancing, but also jumping in them! You have to admire their abilities, if not, impressed, cuz here’s the thing some of their dances were pretty vigorous, and after seeing their performances 3 times now, I could tell that Chori-chan is the ‘genki’ girl as she tended to jump the highest, dance with the most energy and also the one to rile up the audience. Miayan has the best and brightest smile that would capture anyone’s hearts (which explained why she has a fan account). Meanwhile Hanapii has the best balance in terms of her dance, her movements weren’t too extreme, and the fluidity and precision made her dance moves better, hence for me she’s the best dancer among the trio.

For this performance, Mianyan noticed me the most and as I said, her smiles were SO BLINDING! I could feel myself getting overcome by it that I had to look through my camera lens instead of my own eyes lmaoooo. Since I’m heavily biased for Hanapii I tended to look at her the most, and I couldn’t help but realized that she seemed a bit down today. I guess it wasn’t surprising since 3 days straight of performing and doing meet-and-greets could tire anyone. However, when she made eye contacts, she made sure to smile as much as she could (God I love her). Meanwhile, Chori-chan climbed in my Oshimen radar because of her bright and energetic interactions with the audience, including myself, especially whenever she invited the audience to chant with her. She’s really like the Takamina in this trio (that’s what I call ‘charisma’!)

Before they started the fifth song, Chori-chan told us that it would be their last song (cue the “Eeeeehhh~” by the audience), and I started to sob and felt my heart twinge a bit. Emotions from the previous night in the airport kind of resurfaced and once again I told myself to not cry or that would make them feel bad if they noticed. Their last song was ‘Dame Otoko’ and I’d say this was my most favorite after ‘Say Yeah! Away!’ (which I kept humming and singing to when I was at the airport the night before) and ending it with this song just made it twice the impact. The performance went splendidly but there was one point again the tears just started to leak, and I had to use my camera to hide my face. Again, I was like “NO. Don’t ruin this for them!”

After they were done, they girls professed their love for being in Malaysia, wanting to come back again (OH HECK YAS, please come back again! And I will too!) Then everyone was called for the obligatory group picture, and now me being in the first row finally paid off!

After the photo session the girls needed some time to freshen up for the last greet-and-meet session. And being the excited fan I was, I waited nearby at their booth, trying not to stand out as much as I could lol. When the booth opened, I immediately lined up behind some prepared fans. This time the man who was selling the merch definitely remembered me as he was like “Welcome back!” This time I was gonna be greedy and bought two Cheki tickets for each member and a towel. He was counting the total cost and I told him “Sanbyaku ringgit (300 ringgit)” which impressed him, and he was like “Oh! Your Japanese is good!” While I was telling him that wasn’t true, he noticed the KiREI T-shirt I was wearing and smiled even more. Honestly I really wanted to shake his hand right then and there, to thank him for his great work, but we just ended up chatting a bit more hahahah.

Before I was about to join the line, Hanapii saw me and she thought I was gonna immediately take pictures with her (oh you sweet darling). But I told her that today I was going to take pictures with everyone, and that I would start from Mianyan, then Chori-chan and finally her. When I went to the line Chori-chan spotted me and immediately assumed that I was gonna take pics with Hanapii as she asked “With Hanapii, right?” I told her I was gonna take pictures with everyone this time, and she was VERY happy, as in she started hopping (ADORABLE).

So I took a picture with Mianyan first. She kept saying I was cute and ‘comel’ (Malay for ‘cute’) and she wrote that on the polaroid frame. I told her where I was from, and since she had a confused look (cuuuuuteee) so I explained the location. I also thanked her for following me on Twitter (she was the first one who followed me). For the first round she and I took a pic with the freshly bought towel hahaha (she was really impressed that I wore their T-shirt too). I was gonna take another picture with her since I bought 2 tickets for each of them but she needed to assist to take pictures for other people, so being the social awkward I was, I stood back awkwardly and ended up going back in line since I wasn’t sure if I should’ve stayed and wait for Hanapii and Chori-chan to be free so I could take pictures with them.

While I was lining up in the very long line I realized Hanapii ran past me to the end of the line to give the last guy a sign that says ‘the end of line’ ah so adorable, at the same time I guiltily thought “Ah crap, I bought 6 tickets which meant I basically took 4 to 5 people’s chance to interact with the girls…!” When I reached them, I made sure to use two of my Cheki tickets in one go so that I didn’t have to go back in line as I specifically said, “Two tickets”. Chori-chan was so happy when I said I was using two tickets (can she get more adorable??). The first round she and I did a heart pose and when she was signing it poor girl thought my main name was “Nagatsuki” she actually remembered me on Twitter (gasp!) and she double confirmed my name with Hanapii like “‘Nura-chan’ dakke? (Was it ‘Nura-chan’?” And Hanapii was like, “Un! Nura-chan!” LOOOL! Before taking a picture for the second round, I told her on my Twitter I post my art and showed her an illustration of them that I made. She went “Amazing!” so many times I thought she was going fangirling as she started hopping on the spot (SO KYOOT). For the second round she held me close with one hand while her other hand was patting my head (I find this a bit endearing since she and I are about the same height while the other two are taller). While waiting for the polaroid to print and while she was signing them she kept saying I was cute and all, then asked if I was travelling so I told her that I came here in order to visit the event, that I was willing to fly over. She then asked me to come and see them again in Japan and before I could even respond she pulled my pinky with hers and made a pinky promise looooooooool. I remember I was so shocked that I stuttered, “Ahhh yeah yeah I’ll definitely try”.

Since Mianyan was busy I had to take pictures with Hanapii first in order to let the line go smoothly. I don’t care how many times she has greeted me with the cutesy “Nura-chan~~~” my heart still fluttered so much! Before we could take a picture, I mentioned about the previous day’s promise that I’d draw something for them and showed my illustration to her. She was like “Eh?!?! No way!” as I told her that I finished it earlier that day. She was so shocked that she was speechless and Chori came over to us and was like “Amazing right! She even drew my red ribbon!” while pointing at my phone. They traded a couple of words together and I just stood there smiling like an idiot. So we ended up taking a picture with that illustration lol.

For the second round, Hanapii was so happy with my visits, my support and the illustration that she was thanking me so many times and she literally hugged me so closely for the picture (I’m not joking, even I was like “Is hugging okay???” and she was like “Yes its completely okay!”). I thought that I still needed to put some distance between our faces, just as precaution, but nope, Hanapii pulled me so close that our cheeks were touching each other! IM SO GLAD IM A GIRL cuz so far I’d seen when they hugged guys (I was the only girl who lined up for the meet-and-greet), they still put some distance. So yeah, I was SO HAPPY with how Hanapii treated me. I then told her that I teared up a bit during their last song since it was their last day and she was like “Eehh don’t cry~” and started patting my head. She then said, “Let’s meet again in Japan, I’ll wait for you.” I thought I’ve died enough. But this comment, THIS COMMENT. I remember I blanked out for a second or two and just nodded (I couldn’t make that promise since I needed to consider my circumstances but MAN I WANTED TO PROMISE HER SO BAD). I was very reluctant to leave and this may sound pretentious but it seemed like she didn’t want me to go either cuz when she held my hands it was firmer than the last 3 times she shook my hands. Before leaving she asked me if I was gonna attend the closing ceremony later that night. Sweetheart you know I won’t miss it for the world so I promised her that I would.

For the last handshake I told Mianyan that I cried during their last performance and she was like “Ehhh~ don’t cry~ were they happy tears?” I took a second or two to rethink my words and spewed “It was both happy and grieving tears since this is the last day” hence we both ended up laughing. I was gonna show her the illustration on my phone, she ended up commenting my Murayama Yuiri lockscreen “Ooh~ cute!” and I almost had to bite my tongue to stop myself from saying “Ah that’s another idol (who happens to be my waifu)” so I just giggled a thanks. Thankfully she was also very happy with the illustration that she took the phone from me (she also added I must post it on Twitter). She then asked me if I just started liking idols (girl if only you knew hahah) so I told her I’ve always loved idols. After taking the picture, Chori-chan told us I was good at winking (I didn’t realize I winked to be honest) so Mianyan went “Ehh seriously??” and quickly checked the polaroid frame and was like “Oh yeah!” while I was fluttering, going “oh nononono, I didn’t mean to do that”. Then she asked something I did not see coming, “Can you do it to me?” and I was like “Eh?” then she said SO CUTELY “A wink”. I laughed embarrassingly at first, but I did it anyway and she was soooo happy. I knew Mianyan is the boldest among this trio but guuurrrrllll you’re climbing on my Oshimen radar too strong! And that’s how I ended my last meet-and-greet session with KiREI members in Malaysia.

Habits -- Youngbin

Because he has these habits that will be the death of you.

Youngbin was an enigma. He was alluring and fascinating and just oh-so-lovely. He was both incredible and the slightest bit annoying. He was good at almost everything he laid his hands on. He was like an ethereal jack of all trades. He constantly left you in awe of just what he was capable of. You were lowkey incredibly thankful you got to know him over the last few years after meeting him through Inseong, who was your high school best friend.

He was good at most sports and always made you work hard to try and beat him. He was an incredible dancer and while you weren’t the most coordinated he always danced with you. You’d never admit to him or Inseong that that’s what ignited the fire in your heart that burned for Youngbin. He was also very studious and if he wasn’t in the apartment he shared with Inseong or in the dance studio on campus, he was in the library. Youngbin was incredible in many ways, all of which you could go on and on about for hours. Poor Inseong experienced it once when you were drunk, you did not drink alone with him ever again.

The one other thing about Youngbin that drove you up the wall and left you in awe was his caring nature. In your eyes Youngbin was an actual angel. He always travelled with at least two extra jackets or hoodies in his car when you hung out with him and Inseong. He always made sure you got home after a bar crawl, even if he had a few drinks and had to walk you back to your apartment. He would text you throughout the week to remind you to eat when finals got close and made sure to send you little encouragement texts when you seemed down. The group chat you had with him and Inseong was full of very parental like things, reminding both of you of meals and to rest. The most shocking text he’s ever sent is he reminded you to go buy some “lady products” since your time of the month was just around the corner. You didn’t face him for three days after that because he knew you that well. Since then Inseong has been trying to get you two together because obviously Youngbin cares a lot about you.

Today had been one of his latest attempts. Friday night pizza at the local parlor to celebrate surviving another week of university, his treat. That was enough incentive for you both to clear your schedules to meet for dinner.

However you weren’t prepared for the torture your poor heart would endure. Youngbin had had a good week. He went on to tell you two more about his routines that were getting praised and how he was going to have a spot in the semester Arts showcase, which was a huge deal. He had aced both exams he had earlier that week and his group for one of his classes had finished thier project a week early and already submitted it.

When Youngbin got excited and talked a lot he had the habit of biting and licking his lips more than usual. Which the habit already left you distracted. You had been wanting to kiss Youngbin for the last two years, almost since you first met him. Meaning anytime he did anything to bring your attention to his lips you pretty much died. And his lips were more than kissable, they looked soft and to die for.

“Are you listening (Y/N)?” Youngbin teased, snapping you out of your trace.

“Of course. Professor Kim is considering you to close the showcase out. That’s amazing, congrats.” You smiled at him, feeling at ease when his cheeks turned pink.

“Yea that’s really cool man!” Inseong chimed in. “Who else is she considering?”

“Just a few other performers, there’s four total up for the ending spot. Two are instrumentalists and the other is another dancer. All incredible.” Youngbin’s hands twisted together.

“Hey, whether or not you get the spot being considered is huge. And you’ll get to show off all your hard work regardless.” Your hand rested on his, stilling their movement, before his eyes shot up to yours.

“Exactly.” Inseong chimed in again, watching the interaction with a smug expression. “And we’ll be there, front row, to show our support.”

“Yes! I’ve already bought tickets!” You beamed, “So you can’t say no.”

“Thanks.” Youngbin looked down at your hand on his for a moment. “Seriously, you two are the most supportive people in my lives.” He bit his lip.

You were about to say something when the waiter brought your pizza out and Youngbin slowly pulled his hands away from yours. He always got shy when you and Inseong praised him so much. You looked up to see Inseong giving you his infamous, ‘do something’ look. You looked over at Youngbin to see him already plating pizza. He handed the first plate to you before getting Inseong and himself some. You took the plate from him and your fingers touched. Your heart nearly jumped out of your chest from the warm feeling that started from the place of contact. You watched as Youngbin’s tongue quickly darted out to wet his lips before he tore his eyes from yours.

He was trying to kill you.

Inseong started the conversation up again, asking about plans for the rest of the night and if you wanted to come back with them to watch a movie or something.

“I’d love to, really, but I have a paper due Monday I haven’t even started on.” You giggled uneasily, watching them both give you disapproving looks. “It’s only 3-5 pages and I have the topic picked out, no need for the scowls.”

“We shouldn’t stay out too late then.” Youngbin said after he swallowed a mouthful of pizza. “You lose motivation after midnight.”

“Way to call me out.” You grabbed your shirt over your heart. “I’m hurt.”

“He’s right.” Inseong stuck his nose up a little. “No one knows you better than Youngbin.”

“Of course I know a lot about the people I care about.” Youngbin countered as if it was no big deal.

“Right.” Inseong looked skeptically at his friend. “I’m gonna get a refill, you two need anything?”

“Please.” You held your nearly empty glass out for him.

“I’m good.” Youngbin nodded as Inseong took your cup and walked away.

“Ah, I have something to show you!” You rushed to pull your phone from your little purse as you remember this cool dance video you saw on instagram.

You continued to eat your second slice of pizza as your searched for the clip again. Painfully unaware of the way Youngbin was watching you, and admiring the way the light from your phone lit up your face in the dim parlor. When you had found it you grinned to yourself before jerking your head up. Your eyes locked with his. Time stood still, this hadn’t happened before. It never felt this intense before. Your gaze moved to his mouth again when he licked his lips again. The video forgotten for a moment as the two of you had a silent moment.

“You uh,” Youngbin started as he scooted forward on his chair. “You have -- hold still.” His hand moved from his side and his thumb rested on the corner of your lips. His forefinger curled under your chin as he, almost teasingly slow, wiped the bit of pizza sauce at the corner of your lip. “There, even a little sauce can’t ruin your beauty.” He mumbled to himself as he rubbed his thumb onto his napkin.

“Th-thanks.” You nodded and swallowed the lump in your throat. “I found the video.”

In the next second it was all back to normal. Youngbin scoot forward and pushed the pizza to the side to get a better look at your phone. Inseong sat back down by the time the video ended, he was the only one aware of how red your face had gotten. He gave you a suspicious look but you jus shook your head, if he wanted to know you could tell him later.

You finished the pizza with their help rather quickly and since you had a paper to write, as did Inseong but he didn’t announce it, the bill was paid and the three of you left the restaurant. Since it was so close to summer break the soft spring breeze was welcoming and refreshing. You walked between your best friend and crush with a light heart, despite of how erratically it was beating just twenty minutes ago. It was just late enough that the sun had started to set so the view for your walk home was breathtaking. Without overthinking you looped your arms with both guys and walked happily.

“Inseong you can head straight back, I’ll walk (Y/N) home.” Youngbin break the comfortable silence as you came to the fork in your path, they stayed in the complex two blocks to the right and you stayed in the complex four blocks to the left.

“Alright, I’ll see you when you get back man.” Inseong winked at you as he hugged you. “Good luck with your paper, if you’re done by tomorrow night, movie at our place.”

“Yea, yea. Challenge accepted.” You smiled at him, not realizing the double meaning to it.

“I expect to hear all about it.” Inseong replied easily before he patted Youngbin on the shoulder and went right.

“Thanks for walking me back.” You said once you and Youngbin had started down the first block.

“I’d be worried till you texted me you where home anyway, so it saves me the stress.” Youngbin admitted with a quick lip bite as he looked anywhere but you.

You hummed in response as you looked away, the urge to kiss him suddenly all you could think about. You completed the second block by the time the double meaning to your last conversation with Inseong clicked in your mind. You stole a quick glance at Youngbin to see him already looking at you. Your eyes flew to the bench far off in the distance before you took a deep breath.

“I like you, Binnie.”

“I like you, (Y/N).”

Both of you froze. Your head swiveled to Youngbin and he gawked at you.

“Really?” You squeaked.

“Yea.” Youngbin nodded, bottom lip between his teeth again.

“I’ve been waiting to hear you say--”

Youngbin cupped your cheeks and kissed you. It was all you could have ever imagined it to be and more. It ended as quickly as it started and his eyes were wide.

“Sorry, I just, I’ve been wanting to do that for so long.”

You kissed him then and returned the favor. There was a moment where you felt like your heart was going to burst before you pulled away from him. This had been the focal point of your dreams for months, you’d been secretly so in love with one of your best friends for so long it didn’t feel real.

“What a development.” Your head snapped to the left to see Inseong peeking from behind a tree. “Finally. I’m done being the inconspicuous middle man. Have a nice night, I’m locking you out Youngbin.” And he was gone.

“So.” Youngbin laughed as you hid your face in his shoulder. “Can I stay the night.”

“Of course.” You nodded and started walking again but with Youngbin’s hand in yours.

“You still have to work on your paper though.” He teased only to get a groan from you.

“I know.” You laughed after a moment as you snuggled into Youngbin, ready to talk about this later.

Summary:  She’s fascinated with his hair. Just his hair. But Ryousuke finds it invasive, and of course he won’t let her off that easily.

Chapter Four: Trigger

"Copy?" Aya flops down on her bed, brown hair splayed all over her pillows. "What does he even mean by that?" She holds up her sketchbook, flipped open to her drawing of Haruichi. Then, even if it had been a month since she actually talked to him, she remembers how Haruichi talked about his brother.

Haruichi had enrolled in Seidou – had started playing baseball, even – because of his older brother. And with him playing second baseman today, it's easy to deduce that Haruichi likes to follow in his brother’s footsteps.

And based on experience, the older Kominato doesn't like that.

"Oh no!" She suddenly sits up. "What if, right at this moment, poor little Haruichi is out doing errands for his seniors and he accidentally bumps into his brother who would bully him?"

Or maybe not.

Maybe Kominato only doesn't like being followed by her. Maybe he just doesn't like her.

"Well, it's just one more year. That's nothing compared to the rest of his life without me." Aya falls back on her pillows, then turns to her side to hug the nearest one. "He should even consider himself lucky." She hides her face under the pillow and closes her eyes. "He won't be the one returning to a life of stagnant gray."

The next day, Aya spies the principal and vice-principal heading towards the field to presumably watch morning practice. It's one thing to be caught by the Coach sometimes, and another to let the misunderstanding of her constant presence there extend to the school officials. No way would she let that happen.

But then she doesn't watch the after-school practice, nor drop by for the next two practice days. And despite her excitement, she doesn't even attend the Kanto game anymore.

Firstly, it's a school day. Secondly, Seidou would play against Yokohama, where most of her old classmates back in Kanagawa are now studying. She wouldn't want to hear again the lines, "As expected of Makoto-san! If she's not holed up in a corner with a sketchbook, you'd find her in the bleachers of a baseball game!" and "What's that? You're drawing baseball players now? You've just combined your eccentricities!"

And, okay, maybe she's still a bit bitter.

What is she even trying to prove? That she can survive without a muse? She certainly did before, so it shouldn't be any different now. And didn't she once wish to stop depending on the senior so much for her to be productive? But here she is, in the middle of a creative stump. The world has become a boring gray, hence it started reflecting on her daily works - if it's not black-ink-abused, it would simply be colorless.

Friday rolls around and she's kicked out of the club room, only allowed to return once she picks herself back up. In the one year she's been with the Art Club, she knows it's just out of disguised concern and trust, so she harbors no hurt feelings. But it leaves her no choice but to set out for the field.

Nope. She also has the choice to procrastinate for one day more.

On her way home, she shoots Miyuki a message to ask if there's a game tomorrow, to which he answers hours later with an affirmative.

(Yet it was an unusually clipped reply. Aya is highly suspicious that he's pissed – not at her, though, for there are telltale signs if it is so – but unless she wants to be put into a grayer mood – for an upset Kazuya would, in turn, upset her too – she chalks it up to him just being exhausted.)

And what luck. To narrow the participating players in Summer Nationals down to twenty, double-header games have begun. In one day, two schools would be invited over for practice games against Seidou's first-string and second-string at the same time on different fields.

It hadn’t been a problem last year. With Miyuki and Kuramochi getting into first-string, she got to support them while she watched the pink-haired senior.

This year, though, Haruichi has been confirmed to be promoted to second-string.

Damn Kominato Ryousuke.

If she chooses the first-string game, it'd be like betraying a new friend. And if she chooses the second-string game, he would believe what she said last time about preferring Haruichi over him and—

WHAT.

Why does she even care what the third-year would think? Why does she even think that he would so much as spare a thought of her?

As she mulled things over, Aya's feet leads her to Field A well after two innings. She barely finishes squeezing her way towards the front of the crowd when Furuya steps off the mound, as urged by Miyuki – the evil being who 'forgot' to inform her that today's a double-header.

Not long after, Tanba runs out of the dugout, claims the mound, and immediately throws a curveball that leads to a strike.

"Hey, hey! I'm getting bored out here!" Jun-san complains lightheartedly when his friend throws another strike.

"You seem to be in a real good position," Kuramochi adds.

But all these had happened only in Aya's peripheral, for her eyes had already instinctively searched for him and locked there.

"You're finally acting like the ace," Kominato Ryousuke says with his signature smirk. "A little late, though."

Despite being in the gray moment of indecision, she still ended up choosing the older brother. "This is crazy," she mutters to herself.

What's even crazier is that two weeks later, she's still banned from the Art Club.

What is going on with her? Is it because she only drops by during games now? Does she really need to see him every day? Or has she ultimately jinxed everything and the world of colors had finally failed her, as what everyone back home expects?

On times like these, she reverts back to drawing pictures of the past – of her elegantly boring life back in Kanagawa. Today, she draws a portrait of herself in a kimono, in her personal favorite color – gray. The color that describes her family's status, and the future she is being forced into. But it's also the color of her safe space. It's true that she had fought to get her parents to arrive at a compromise, yet a gray life is what she could always fall back to if this all turns out to be a wrong decision, a mere whim.

"Won't you be ruining your eyesight, drawing in a place like this?"

Aya stops. Slowly, she straightens up and looks to her left.

The twilight shining in through the stair windows is still bright enough for her to actually see what she's doing, even to see the gray dust motes floating in the air. And right now, floating in between her and Kominato Ryousuke.

"Just where did you come from?" The moment she asks that, she realizes she had dropped polite speech. She opens her mouth to apologize.

But he simply answers, "I forgot something in the classroom."

Right, the Art Club is way up in the third floor of the school building, where the third-year classrooms are. It is close to the set of stairs that not a lot of people go through at this time of day, so Aya had been settling there in hopes of the members taking pity on her when they see her.

What a successful plan that is, so far.

"I see." She nods slowly, then hesitantly turns back to the sketchbook in her lap, not quite knowing if she should continue drawing.

Maybe Kominato let her rude question slide, but maybe he won't appreciate being blatantly brushed off when he for once approached her with nothing but curiosity. Especially when he doesn't move at all from his seat on the steps, with only Aya's box of colored pencils finally serving a purpose – a barrier between them. "So this is where you usually are these days," he finally speaks again.

"Actually, I would've been in the club room, but since I'm temporarily not allowed in there for producing very uninspired works..." she trails off with a sigh.

"How so? You were even watching the second-stringers' game today. Haruichi had played."

"But you didn't."

The senior goes silent.

This is the part where Kominato would call her out for being creepy again, and Aya is ready for it.

But today he just... continues to say nothing in response.

Confused, Aya turns to look at him again.

The dimming light from the stair windows doesn't do much, though, especially when his face is turned away from her. But he is obviously biting his lip.

"Kominato-san? Are you okay?"

He breathes deeply. "You're really… something else."

That statement is still grounds for an argument to start, but there's just something about his tone that says otherwise. That suddenly makes her heart flutter. That slowly triggers colors to seep back in. It's so startling, that the only thing she could do was to look back down at her sketchbook.

Kominato finally clears his throat. "May I... see the drawings you usually do?"

"Huh?" Surprised yet again, she snaps her head towards him. What is going on? Why is he suddenly interested, when all this time he had hated the idea of her drawing him? And did he of all people stutter?

The guy is apparently not looking at her, but at her in the current page of her sketchbook.

Of all the things she has to draw today, it’d have to be of her fitting a kimono. Not-so-discreetly covering it with her arms, she decides the best way to take his attention off it is to comply with him. And he is asking nicely. "Sure, why not?" But she pauses at the first drawing she reveals. "Oh. Do you mean you want to see the drawings I have of... of you?"

Kominato nods. "I want to confirm something."

Again, what exactly is happening here? Is she in some kind of dream?

He looks up at her. "Well?"

This has got to be the craziest thing to happen to her this week. "Okay," she says, dragging the last syllable out of reluctance, but then continues to turn the pages.

Now, it's one thing to have a muse who doesn't exactly get flattered for being one. And another to have said muse looking at your unsolicited drawings of them.

But she isn't cringing, for all her brain registers right now is that the boy had scooted closer to practically hover over her shoulder and she could feel his warmth and he smells so nice and –

"Are requests open right now?" He's suddenly putting the distance between them back up.

"What?" Her eyes widen at all her thoughts during the ordeal, the sudden loneliness she felt when it ended, and the weirdest thing that's ever come out of his mouth.

"Requests. You take requests from people and draw, don't you? Commissions, you call them?"

"You... you want me to commission you a drawing."

Kominato suddenly faces forward, at the big windows. "Yes. But please draw my eyes properly."

It takes everything in her not to laugh out loud. She bites her lip. "I'm sorry, Kominato-san, but that's pretty hard to do. I don't exactly know what your eyes look like."

"Is that so?"

"Mmm-hmm, so - what are you doing?"

"How about now?"

She's now backed up against the wall, a clear view of Kominato Ryousuke's black irises right in front of her. Relying on her photographic memory, she closes her eyes after a few seconds. "1200 yen. That's an inked close-up portrait of you, in full color."

"That's fair."

"I think so too." But when she opens her eyes, he's still there. "Senpai," she now whines, sliding the sketchbook in between the small distance between their faces, "is this actually a trap?” And with a sudden burst of courage, she jokes, “I didn’t know you feel that way."

"Oh, I'm sorry." Finally, he draws back from her. Even better, he stands up. "Okay. I'll see you around."

She peeks at him from one corner of the sketchbook. "Please expect your order in a week or so."

Kominato nods noncommittally, already bounding down the stairs.

As Aya tries to process everything that just happened, she first notices that the world of gray is gone.

Next day

I pull my aching body from the comfort of my sheets and strat rummaging through my chest of draws settling in an oversized plane black t shirt and faded blue skinny jeans it was going to be a long day she knew it just by the feel of the morning after pulling on her flat riding boots on and grabbing a black jacket and her purple handbag/ back pack its one of those multi functional / compasidy bag that can hold literally everything perfect for my slaying gear and of cause my school supplies.

Grabbing my mobile placing it in my bag and quickly doing my make-up just light done to hide the bags under my eyes and the fact that I slept for literally 3 hours.

Then I head down to the kitchen where I hear Aunt Jenna toast I can make toast

Elena : it's all about the coffee aunt Jenna

Jeremy: is there coffee

Me : there's always coffee.

Oh aunt jenna have you forgotten about your meeting thing?

Jenna : that's at crap now...

Me : Go will be fine right guys

Jeremy huh .

Elena: of cause we will be.

Oh Nicki are you coming to school with me and Bonnie or making your own way?

Me : if it's cool with Bonnie I'd like a lift

Elena : I'll tell her it's both of us then.

Me : cool thanks .

In Bonnie's car.

Bonnie : so my Grams is telling me that I'm a psychic.

Me : maybe you are?

Bonnie : really not you too .Elena hey elena back in the car ..

Elena : oh god I did it again didn't I.

Me : its okay Elena we get it

Elena : you were saying that ?

Bonnie: that I'm physics now.

Elena : then product something somethings about me.

Bonnie : I see ..

Crack ..

Me : was that a bird ?

Elena : uhm.

Bonnie : yeah it was like a bird I'm so sorry guys.

Elena : it's okay we can't be freaked out by cars forever.

Bonnie: I predict that this year will be kick ass and all the sad and dark times are over and you two will be beyond happy.

Then we get back on the road and arrive at the school when Bonnie starts again.

Bonnie: total lack of male reliastate , oh wow look at the shower curtin..

That's where I choose to stop listening I don't like ragging on people's cloths it's not cool regardless of weather they appear to be wearing a shower curtin that's their perogative.

I'm pulled from my thoughts by Elenas whine he hates me.

Bonnie : that's not hate thats you dumped me and I'm to cool to show it but secretly I'm listening to air supply's latest hits .

Me : she's right he doesn't hate you.

Maybe you are psychic?

Bonnie : umhum.

Wait who's that ?

Elena : all I see is back.

Bonnie : that's a hot back, I'm scencing seattle he and he plays a guitar

Me : not gonna drop this are you.

Bonnie: nope I'm pretty much going to run it into the ground.

Care: oh my god Elena Nicki your here how are you, how are they are they good

Me : yes we're fine

Elena : much better.

Care : you poor things she says as she breezes past us into her other friends.

Elena : no comment.

The bell rings and we all go off to class I sit second left at the back because Tanner didn't want me helping Elena in class so here I sit the new guy is in front of me and there fore behind Elena. Tanner called on Elena and Bonnie and the new guy jumped to there rescue just as I was about to, I'm kinda glad because i was too tired to play the Knight in shining armor today, he even rubbed Tanners face in it. Harsh considering he was just trying to make them pay attention but it's was nice enough of him I think he's trying to let Elena know he's interested witch she already knows. But he might not know that so I'll give him some credit but you know I can't get this feeling that he's... there's something not right he feels old. He feels like Angle but different too he's the same and yet not. Deciding to shake that thought away since he's new and I'm supposed to be in class not in slayer mode not that I'm ever out of it but he's knew deciding I'll text Wilson see if he knows anything.

Its probably just my elevated paranoia but still.

I look down at my phone send a quick text and head to my next class without waiting for Elena since I'm in art next.

She has French on the opposite side of the school.

So I sit in my class drawing on to my canvas over the dry paint to draw a silhouette of the moon that I will paint later .

There's a few stems of trees too that will have leaves when I find my natural sponge.

I'm pulled from my thoughts by a text from Caroline.

Have you spoken to the new guy ?

I send her back a message No.

And continue as I ignore my phone after putting it on silent.

To continue the project scenary views the moon is the view from my window I have a picture to prove it.

My teacher loves that I work in the style of Bob Ross. So she's okay with me using it alot.

All in all I like this class it's a lesson where I don't have to hide just got to be me that's it.

The rest of the day went really quickly since I had double art and pe last. I found myself walking home to avoid the Stephen talk.

I also wanted to stop in to see Wilson see if he turned up anything.

Oh boy did he ever.

Inside Wilson's spacious but cluttered apartment he is sat at his desk I'm opposite him reading his ansesters diary on the Salvetor brothers. Getting frustrated I lean back into his blue arm chair using a ribbon as my book mark.

Wilson: Stephen is a ripper, a ripper that forces himself to eat animal blood to survive according to my ancestor he's actually a good guy when he's on the waggon.

But his brother Damon he's a peace of work. And determined to make Stephen suffer.

Me : grate. Anything else I should know ?

Wilson : not yet but if I find more I'll tell you.

Me : this is just grate Stephen is vampire that may aswell have a drug addiction and he brings his brother that takes glee in murder and all things that vampires reval in.

Wilson : you may have to kill them.

Me : yes only problem Stephen is Elenas new thing.

Ugh this will be hard.

Wilson : your going to need to cast a protection charm.

Me : grate how do I do that? I don't have a spell book the things I taught my self were just academy's that kept happening I learned to control them

Wilson : here, taking the offered book I check the index .

So herbs holy water vervain talismans will that work on them they are of a witch made line.

Wilson : humm yes just pay attention to the making talismans really understand what you want them to do.

Me : right okay what do I use ?

Wilson : stones crystals metal wood just about anything really.

Me : okay where's that book on stones and what there for?

As if he predicted it he handed it to me then he sat with me and we found the one that will make it so they have to be invited in every time they leave and come back.

With that in mind she started digging through the crystals making sure to have them represent an angle since they are strong representation of a protector.

Carful to choose the representation stone tigers eye for Jeremy, Lapis lazuli for Elena , strawberry quartz for Jenna and amethyst for me. I figure I'm lucky that he keeps these things he's abit of a pack rat.i smile as I think this.

Then I made one for the house to be kept by the front door and it had all 4 stones in it each one is made from stones and steel for durability.

Then Wilson drove me home and thanked me for all my help with the restoration of old books.

Jenna might know but Elena and Jer don't so secrets to be kept.

After hanging the houses talisman up then I had jenna her one I attached them to the keys jenna nodded understanding and then I give Elena and Jer theirs and they thank me Jer likes his and Elena dose too its nice.

I never hide the supernatural I just don't come right out and tell them either.

They would never believe me.

And Elena would want to help but that would probably get one or both of us killed. They know I believe in this stuff and they think I'm mad for it. One day they'll know I hope but for now I'll just be the crazy sister.

Yes I am I'm just debating on an outfit I'm thinking riding boots to below my knee thermal leggings black boots navy leggings black dress top.

And a leather jacked .

She beeps back no the swishy floral top I gave you for your last birthday.

Laughing at her since she's grate at this kind of thing I pull on the top she demanded I use, and then the rest of the outfit.

Pulling it back off placing it to one side I think I'll just wear it all day tomorrow that way no big change and frees me up but care would kill me so my burgundy long top in place of the floral top for school.

Same purple bag I take for everything always be prepared.

Then I did a cleansing to keep out the vampires that Elena might end up inviting in, but she they won't be able to get in and out as they please.

I love Care but her need to be popular is suffercating its why we don't have the whole BFF thing going we are but out of the lime light I'm the one she can just be herself with not even Bonnie can claim to have that.

We have sleep overs monthly and she catches up on everything and in-between Elena tells me her self absorbed versions care is definitely the more trust worthy for gossip but you need to take her exaggeration with a pinch of salt.

With that last thought Nicki found herself headed out to patrol. She just hoped that she wouldn't have to slay Stephen tonight that would be a major downer.

Have you ever wondered about the artists behind your favorite works? What they do and who they are when they’re not wowing you with their creative ability. If so, the Official Thiam Library brings to you a new series we call ‘Behind the Screens.’ Each profile highlights an artist (or artists) within the Thiam family, giving you the inside scoop on their life, well, behind the screen.  

Today is a special Behind the Screens profile. We are excited to bring you Alicia (@extrasteps) and Ashlee (@ashleejohannah). If you are a fellow fanfiction fanatic, you might recognize their AO3 usernames, ExtraSteps and AJP_37, respectively. In our chat, they gave us the low-down on their origin as friends, their ultimate Teen Wolf Laser Tag/Paintball team, their number one tips for writing and sticky life situations, and much more.

The profile is separated into three parts. First, we will learn about Alicia, then we will get to know about Ashlee, and finally, we will explore them as a pair. For each question, the speaker changes using the following labels:  ‘ES’  for ExtraSteps (Alicia) and ‘AJP’ for AJP_37 (Ashlee).

Without further ado, have a look!

Alicia! Using a sentence, where the word count is either equal to or less than your age, tell us about yourself. (Now, describe Ashlee using her age as the word count.) 

ES: I care deeply about people but rarely show it. I hang back in a crowd and observe. I have fooled people into thinking I’m a responsible adult.

Ashlee is the light of my life. We are literally the same person. She is funny, the life of the party, and always up for shenanigans.

If you could build the ultimate paintball/laser tag team from any five characters on Teen Wolf, who’d be on your team and why?

ES: Theo and Liam, obviously. They’re my boys and they already have amazing teamwork. Peter, because he’s funny. Corey, because he can turn invisible, which is obviously handy. And finally, Brett, ‘cause he has an eight-pack, he’s shredded.

Lol, accurate! How did you come to the Thiam fandom? What about them drew you in?

ES: It’s actually really funny. When I watched the series through the first time, I was actually really loyal to the original pack, and so everyone new that came in, I just loathed. I really did not like Liam’s character at all, and I found his relationship with Hayden boring. Then Theo came in and was threatening Scott, and Stiles, and I literally just rolled my eyes every time he was on the screen.

Then, literally out of nowhere, 6b arrives and I was watching episode 14 I think and I was messaging Ashlee as I always did while watching, when she made a comment about the two of them. I frowned and was like, nope, no way, that’s fucked up. Then in 15, she was like, no really, these two are actually really growing on me. It wasn’t until 16 and I watched triggers that I paused and it hit me like a tonne of bricks. I fucking shipped it. Like I fell hook, line and sinker for them. Their dynamic, the snark, the punching, their words saying one thing, but then just always having each other’s back, I adore them together!

AJP: I think it could even have been later mate! We literally whined so much about all the filler! (How wrong we were!!) And then I think it was like maybe 17 when I was like hey- Thiam? And you were still like no. And then 19 and 20 happened and then we were dead! Haha we were literally screaming at the TV during the elevator scene for them to kiss.

ES: I seriously can’t believe we ever thought those episodes were filler. Now I watch back and I adore both of them and every single scene they’re in, but it very much was a last minute thing.

Do you write novels or short stories about original characters, as well? If so, share one you’re particularly passionate about.  

ES: I have a fantasy novel that I have been writing off and on for many years now that I hope to eventually publish. I’m from Australia and I live out in the country, so I really want to write something set in the area where I live and explore how magic exists in this beautiful region along the Murray River.

Also, Ashlee and I have also joked many times that we are going to quit our jobs and write gay porn for a living, so there’s that.

What would you say your writing Kryptonite is? How do you fight it?

ES: Oh my god, my writing Kryptonite is switching between past and present tense. I do it all the freaking time. I literally have to go back and carefully check everything I write because I just do it without thinking.

Characters often find themselves in situations they aren’t sure they can get themselves out of. When was the last time you found yourself in situation like that and what did you do?

ES: This is a hard question to answer. I’m not the sort of person who does things that I don’t want to. I’m very independent and I don’t cave to peer pressure. Ashlee could tell you how stubborn I am. If there is something that I’m not comfortable with, or simply not interested in, I just won’t get involved. I mean, sometimes there is no choice, like if it is something at work, and I’ll suck it up, but otherwise, it’s not common for me. 

My advice if someone was in this sort of situation would be to take a step back and assess what they’re happy and comfortable with and try and find a happy medium, and if it is just not possible, walk away for your own wellbeing. Look after yourself!

Finally, what’s next for you?

Well, I just bought a house, so there’s that. I will be doing that up and moving in and all of that fun stuff. I’ve also been contemplating learning an instrument, possibly the drums.

When it comes to my writing, I want to keep pushing myself to write longer things and keep getting better, because I would really love to be an actual author and publish my work.

Ashlee, your turn! Let’s start off with you telling us about yourself.  The word count should be equal to or less than your age and try the same for Alicia. 

AJP: Peachy keen and generally delightful, but salty at the core. I dabble in art and don’t deal with my anxiety well. I don’t have volume control.

[About Alicia] My soul mate- literally puts up with me cuddling her. Better speller and faster reader- she is the keeper of my secrets. She keeps me sane.

ES: Thought of another one [about Ashlee]: Menace to society. Gets slutty when she drinks pink wine. Gropes me during our sleepovers. 20% gay but it changes every time she touches my boobs. Hahahahah >:D

AJP:  Yeahhhh that is all true…

Hahaha and if you could build the ultimate paintball/laser tag team from any five characters on Teen Wolf, who would they be and why?

AJP: Alicia will tell you I am a seriously competitive person- I always play to win. Obviously Alison and Parrish because they are trained (and Ryan Kelley’s abs give me life.) Derek got training when he was depowered- so he can be on the team. Jackson- because the snark and the tail, and Theo because he would be ruthless.

ES: She’s not joking about being competitive guys. Like she would stab someone to win. She often fights with our other friend Sarah because they’re as competitive as each other. I’m always the mediator!

If both of your team squared off, it’d be one hilarious blood-bath. Also, it’s so fitting that Theo would be a double-agent. How did you come to the Thiam fandom? What about them drew you in? 

AJP: As I snuck into Alicia’s answers, I noticed it first - maybe around episode 17. I had been digging Liam for a while I think- I liked the longer hair on him. I think I messaged Alicia and was like ‘Liam and Theo?’ And she was like ‘Ew, no.’  I think there were like 15 stories on Ao3 at this point. And then by the finale Alicia was like ‘Yes please.’

Do you also write novels or short stories about original characters? If so, share one you’re particularly passionate about.  

AJP: Not really- I paint a bit and have done some sculpture in the past, I’ve always been better at that than writing. I have a few stories rolling around but have never done much in the way of writing original stuff. My family is a little bit hilarious- I’d love to do something with that.

And, your writing Kryptonite? How do you fight it?

AJP:  Re-writing canon bores me. So I tend to lose interest there. Sometimes Alicia has to bribe me with things in order to get something finished.

Characters often find themselves in situations they aren’t sure they can get themselves out of. When was the last time you found yourself in situation like that and what did you do?

AJP: I am very lucky to have an awesome friendship circle where we can work through situations. Like the kind of friends who drop what they are doing to come to your house with wine and help you plot your next move. 

My boyfriend is also a huge help most of the time. He doesn’t always get things I do- but he generally goes with the flow. When I was really upset aboutSomething that happened at work- and he happened to be going away for a few days- he reached out to Alicia to make sure I wouldn’t be alone. He’s a good egg.

I said before I don’t deal with my anxiety very well. I’ve been on medication before but it didn’t work for me- I didn’t like who I was on it and I was a uni student at the time with limited funds. Art and writing help- my mum has always said I’m a much more grounded person when I have something to work on. 

I’m also an amazing cook. 

So to answer the question- I distract myself- with friends, family, art, writing, food, and then just keep on going.

And last but certainly not least, what’s next for you?

AJP: Well it’s nearly summer holidays so that means I’ll be sitting in my blow up pool having a wine reading some fanfiction. Last summer Alicia and I had an obsession with reading Bodice Rippers set in the highlands of Scotland (think awesome pun titles like ‘Kill or be Kilt’). And then after that I am starting a new job at a different school which is scary but exciting. 

ES: (And yes, I am fucking devastated.)

AJP: I’ve also been reading a lot of Sterek lately- so maybe I’ll give that a crack at some point!

There you have it–Ashlee and Alicia. And lucky for us, there’s more to come! While these two write separately, they have recently began collaborating on one story, so we discovered more about them as a pairing too. 

How did you two meet? Start writing together? 

ES: We have known each other for two years as we have been working at the same high school. How we actually became friends is another story. I think I’ll leave that one to Ashlee!

AJP:  So I had literally been working at the school for maybe 2 weeks max, and Alicia and I were sharing a desk separated by a desktop computer. I was running late to my lesson and went to grab my laptop cord ACCIDENTALLY pulling out the power point of the computer Alicia was working on.

Obviously, I apologised and offered to help her retype everything and she just sighed and said ‘it’s fine.’ I was convinced she hated me but I gradually wore her down.

And then we realised we were in so many of the same fandoms and had so many of the same ships and now we are practically the same person. It was actually so amazing to meet someone in real life who had so many of the same interests.

ES: I have to say that I was very overwhelmed initially by how happy Ashlee is. I think I said to Sarah something along the lines of ‘she’s just so fucking cheerful, like all the time’ which is so not who I am as a person. But I think that once I realised that this was just a mask that hid the snarky bitch underneath, I fell in love. We’re pretty much inseparable now. Squad goals, as our students say all the time :P

AJP: there was this pic on Tumblr a couple weeks ago and it was ‘peachy keen, Nectarine reluctant’ and that sums us up 100%.

ES: And the writing together started recently. We had been helping each other and running ideas past each other for our stories and had been considering a collab for awhile. This story just caught both of us and we really wanted to write it, so we figured that the time was now!

If someone were to write the following headcanons about you two as writers/friends, what would they say:

Headcanon 1— Who’d be the first to bawl while writing an emotional scene

ES: Me, for sure. I have been crying at the drop of a hat recently (partially because stress but mostly because Thiam). I am also far more likely to write angst than Ashlee!

AJP: 100% agree- she literally cries all the time- I’m getting used to it! Haha I’ve actually seen her cry over new pictures of Cody Christian.

ES: Can you even blame me? He is perfection. And it’s mostly when I laugh though. It’s not my fault you’re so funny, Ashlee!

AJP: It’s true- I am hilarious.

Headcanon 2 — Who’d be more likely to send the other something random in the middle of the night without context.

ES: Hah, Ashlee.

AJP: What even is context? Haha we have a code for ‘super secret best friend chats’ that we don’t talk about in public. It’s usually something that is wayyyy to much info or that I have been drinking Rose’….

Headcanon 3 — If you were both at a party, who’d be the center of the party and who’d be in the corner with a book?

ES: Ashlee would be the centre of the party for sure. I wouldn’t be reading a book, but I would be hanging back and observing, probably taking snapchats and uploading them to my story for the debriefing the next morning.

AJP: there is also a good chance I would be asleep in the corner… I have been known to just lie down in public…

ES: Actually, yeah, good point! Getting Ashlee out somewhere is literally a fucking nightmare. She hates planning things, so you have to spring plans on her and pray that she isn’t already in her pj’s. Generally, once she’s out she’s fine and happy, but she’s a little homebody! I love going out and dancing (I’d like to meet a guy this fucking century after all) but nope, not Ash!

AJP: literally- if you give me too much time between making plans and going out I will find a way to get out of it- or if you wait too late and I have committed myself to my bath and PJs… then there is no chance.  Alicia has discovered she can distract me by playing her tinder- (read her tinder story- I’m Mason!!!) and that keeps me occupied and happy!

What’s your writing process like together? How do you both work on a story or chapter? (I.e. alternate povs, write the chapter together, etc.) In what ways is it different than writing separately? 

ES: We have a google doc that we can both edit. We discuss our ideas and plot out the story together and then we generally dibs scenes that we want to write. I wrote a lot of the start of the story, because as you guys have probably noticed, I write like a demon possessed. Ashlee adds in a lot of the funny little one-liners. She has been writing a lot more recently, the chapter between 6a and 6b is hers. Ash is a lot more inspired with how we are diverging from canon, whereas I have written a lot of the stuff that complies with it. I’m the main editor, because Ashlee’s computer hates google docs, and I try and get our writing styles to flow together so that it isn’t too disconnected. It’s not really that different from writing separately, because we are best friends and so we naturally bounce ideas off of each other anyway. We’re actually really excited for you guys to see where we’re taking this story!

AJP: We watch shows and message each other all time- and have been known to have sleepovers where we literally sit on the couch and watch TW and not really speak. So writing together has been really natural- we balance each other out a lot. We planned out the story and I remember just sitting and watching as Alicia pumped out like 5 chapters in practically one night trying to work out where to jump in!

Like I said I find re-writing canon stumps me. 6a I offered lots of ideas and added in some one liners (the sparkle- as Alicia calls it) I really got into the writing with the in between chapter and a fair bit in 6b- I’ve been loving the pack dynamic we are building (especially between Scott and his two bitten betas!) The scene after Hayden leaves and Liam is in his blanket burrito and the pack all comes in and lies with him is one of my favourite things I have written! The original outline for the chapter was really light and funny and I found myself breaking my own heart writing it (Alicia’s love of angst is wearing off on me!)

And, let’s chat about your story, Red. First, for anyone unfamiliar, give us a quick synopsis.  

ES: Theo returns from hell but has lost all of his powers, including his chimera status, making him completely human. He also has a red string of fate wrapped around his left wrist, connecting him to Liam, the one who brought him back. When Malia attacks him, she nearly kills him, and Liam and Lydia step in, all but forcing Scott to bite him and make him a werewolf. Making Theo pack, and the growing connection between him and Liam, changes the whole outcome of season 6.

AJP: pretty much sums it up. I was going to say ‘Theo was dead- but then gets better.’

What struck the idea to write it?

ES: This is just an idea that we had brewing for awhile that merged with other ideas and then became the Red that you guys are now familiar with. I think originally it was just a red string of fate, and we talked about how funny it would be to have it be this tangible thing that no one else could see apart from Theo, and it would make him trip and fall over all the time, and then he would use it to do the same to others, especially Hayden, and it just sort of evolved from there.

AJP: yeah I think originally I came up with it for a one shot- I love a trope! and then I never did anything with it- but we kept talking about it and coming up with awesome ideas- we would literally be crying we would be laughing so hard. So when we decided to write a multi chapter collab, it seemed like a natural fit.

Can you give any spoilers for things to come in the next few chapters?

ES: Hmmm, a spoiler? Theo has a pretty big fight with Scott, resulting in him leaving Scott’s house and sleeping in his truck. I’m sure you can guess what happens next…

AJP: Liam’s bed is both soft and hard. Like a dick. Theo doesn’t want to sleep in the dick bed. (This was an actual conversation from 3 o’clock Saturday morning about Alicia’s actual bed) lol

ES: That is in the far off, misty future (AKA Ashlee’s favourite part of Red)

AJP: Any time we come up with an awesome idea- and don’t know where it fits yet- we put it on the last page of the document and it is my favourite part.

Finally, we wanted to ask about sex scenes because you both seem comfortable writing explicit content and do it well. What advice would you offer any writers who want to strengthen their ability to write sexual/sensual moments? How do you each personally increase tension? How do you avoid the dreaded cringe-worthy scenes everyone has come to know?

ES: Ok, I’m not gonna lie, we watch gay porn. It’s all research guys! Sometimes having that visual is all I need when I am really stuck on a scene. The tension definitely comes from the emotion. You can’t describe the physical actions, but also not look at the emotion behind it. It really helps when writing scenes about sex. As humans, we rarely have sex with some random stranger just for the hell of it. There’s normally some form of attraction or attachment to that other person that we want to express with our bodies. When it comes to writing Theo and Liam, they are literally each other’s anchors, so it’s so easy to write intimate scenes between them because they are already so connected. As for how I void the cringiness, I think that being older helps. I’ve been in a few relationships and I’ve had good sex and bad sex and I have a pretty good idea of what makes someone feel good. For someone without that experience, it would be difficult to write that, which is understandable! I write smut because I like sex and I like exploring the reasons and motivations behind these characters having sex with each other. And, let’s be honest, it’s just fucking hot.

AJP: Sooooo much gay porn. Like I have specific videos I would keep open for specific stories. Haha.

I am a big believer in really fun, light sex. So I tend to write it with a lot of laughter - and after a couple glasses of wine!!

I’d agree that being a bit older and a bit wiser helps. I’ve been in my relationship for 8 years (since I was 18) and I’ve done a lot of growing as a sexual being in that time. Things that I’m into now - there is no way in hell I would have been into as a 18 year old. There is no rush and no point in doing something if it doesn’t feel good. I think both of us have been really surprised by things we have been into since starting writing for Thiam (Alicia- I know you have!)

ES: Yep!!!!!

AJP: …but we just go with it and explore it in our writing and that is fun.

Alicia will tell you I’m probably a borderline (ES: Borderline? HAH!) sex pest (my BF will agree) so some of what I write comes from experience - there is one scene in one of my stories I wrote and said something about ‘extensive research’ which is 100% me- I am always 100% sure before I do something.

My advice for anyone who wants to learn to write smut is to honestly watch porn- read it too (we read a really awesome Ebook called ‘The Back Passage’ by James Lear that was sooooo freaking hot!!). 

Work out what you are into and explore that. The writing will come- it does get easier!!! I agree with Alicia - I write porn because I like sex- it’s not something that I try to force - if it doesn’t work- it doesn’t work. Sometimes I come back to things- others I change the story. And boys kissing boys is fucking hot.
