Sign-ups are OPEN!!

It's here! The sign-up form for our gift exchange is open, and ready for your responses!

This form will be open for one month, from November 15th to December 15h. After it closes, we'll take some time to sort through the responses, before sending assignments out sometime around January 1st. Please reblog to spread the word! We're stoked to see how the responses from last year compare to now.

Welcome- again!

Hello and welcome to the Dungeons and Daddies winter gift exchange official blog! This gift exchange (also called a “secret santa” in some places) will be run by fans, for fans, and will be a place to spread some DnDads joy. This is our second time running the event!

If you don’t know how this works, basically: Soon, we will be releasing a Google Form where we will gather general preference information from everyone who wants to participate. We’ll be using this information to both assign you someone to create for, and assign someone to create for you! Who’s creating for who will be kept a secret until it’s all revealed during the final week of February(the 22nd-29th), where everyone will be gifted their works. Fun!

This event will be accepting all kinds of creations: fanfics, fanart, cosplay, crafts- you name it! Here’s our official rules, which include some regulations on what you can request content-wise. Returning people should make sure to reread them! They’ve changed since last year.

This event will be celebrating season 1 AND season 2 of Dungeons and Daddies, along with some of the miniseries when possible. All of this will be tagged accordingly so people won’t be spoiled, and in your preferences on the sign-up sheet you’ll be able to state what you are and aren’t interested in. Easy as pie!

Our current schedule is:

November 15th to December 15th: Sign-ups open!

December 15th to January 1st: Sign-ups close and assignments are sent out, including a link to the (once again optional) Discord server.

February 22nd to February 29th: Gifts are revealed!

Returning people may notice the creation period is a little shorter this time around- this was unavoidable since February is a short month, but after careful consideration we’ve concluded that the lack of holiday chaos will probably mean people have more free time, even without the extra days. If this ends up actually being an issue, we’ll extend a little into March! Winter starts then for people in Antarctica anyway.

When the time for gifts being revealed comes, we’ll be asking everyone to post their gift here on Tumblr with the tag “#dndads winter gift exchange 2024″. There will also be a collection on ao3 for any fic that ends up posted there!

(p.s… you may notice we skipped a year, even though the events have been consecutive. we’re basing our event year title on what year gifting week takes place in- and since it’ll be in 2024, there you go!)

Sign-ups update #2

Doodlers, we did it! We've surpassed our sign-up amount from last year!

We want to avoid saying an exact number until sign-ups are closed, just for hype's sake, but we will officially be having more people join than we did last year. This is super exciting for us and we hope it is for you all too. Thank you for your interest in our little event!

We're about halfway through the sign-up window, so get your forms in asap- we can't wait to see you there!

Sign-ups update #3

Hey y'all! Sorry we've been a bit MIA, but we're just popping in to announce sign-ups close in just two days!

We'll be posting tomorrow, the day of, and the day after sign-ups close in case some people are just a little late. Make sure to get your forms in ASAP(here's a link)- we're still on-schedule to send out assignments January 1st, but may have a small announcement about the opening of the Disord(which WILL be opening, just maybe a little later than assignments).

3 days til sign-ups open!

Hey Doodlers, just a friendly reminder that sign-ups are going to be opening soon for the gift exchange! When they open please make sure to fill it out asap- they'll be open for a month, but we often see an influx near the end of people who nearly forgot. Which is fine, but we'd hate for someone to get left out.

Sign-ups update #1

Hey Doodlers! Sign-ups opened a couple days ago now, and we just wanted to post and say how blown away we are by the initial response. We're already over halfway to our participation count from last year! This is about what we expected, since more people are now aware of the gift exchange, but it's exciting nonetheless. We'll let you know the final tally when sign-ups close.

It's been so heartwarming to see both new and old faces on the sign-up form. To returning people, thank you for joining us once again, we're happy to see you! To new people, we're stoked about your excitement and can't wait to get the ball rolling!

Sign-ups close December 15th, so if you haven't filled out the form yet there's still plenty of time to do so. We'll be reblogging our announcement post periodically so nobody misses it, and encourage you all to do the same. The more people involved the beter!

Rules

Here are our official rules for the event! They’re subject to change, but we’ll be trying to keep them all steady as not to catch anyone off-guard, and we’ll reblog this post when they do. In general we’ll be pretty light on rules except for some big things!

Last update: Nov. 1st, 2023. 

Rule #1: No revealing who your Giftee is before Gifting Week. This goes against the spirit of the gift exchange! Accidents happen of course, but please try your best to keep it a secret. If you need to reveal early then message us and we’ll talk it through!

Rule #2: No bigotry. This includes, but is not limited to: racism, transphobia, homophobia, sexism, and the such. Works mentioning / having these topics are allowed so long as they are tagged properly and treated with care- and, of course, so long as the giftee hasn’t explicitly said no to them.

Rule #3: Respect Each Other’s Preferences / Headcanons Obviously, this doesn’t go for everything- our general rule of thumb is “If it isn’t erasing anything actually important, it’s cool”. If you think Nick is trans that’s wonderful. If you think Scary is black we still love you. And for any other headcanons, even if we don’t agree, they’re all fine, and we expect everyone to be respectful! We only have a problem when we come across things like “Glenn is white”, to which we say: don’t!

Rule #4: No Incest. We aren’t here to tell you what to and what not to ship. But because the theme of family is so important to Dungeons and Daddies, we just don’t think it would make sense for us to accept incest into this event. Hope that’s alright with everyone!

A note: Last year, we had a mid-event reveal that made a certain ship, uh… A little awkward! Basically it turns out a teen ship in season two consisted of two family members. Since this was mid-event, we made an exception to the rule and allowed those who’s giftees were comfortable to continue working on their gift with the ship. We won’t say the ship’s name to avoid spoiling people- but that ship will not be allowed since it’s a fresh start, and of course if anyone is early in the series and unaware we’ll reach out if they accidentally request it.

Rule #5: No NSFW. Specifically, no actual porn / smut. Tragic for an event about a BDSM podcast! But we don’t want any uncomfortable situations when minors might be involved, especially since minors are very much so able to, well, lie. Off-screen stuff and allusions or even mentions are fine. Basically: if it goes further than it’s gone in the podcast, it won’t be accepted.

Rule #6: Gifts CANNOT be part of a series To be specific, a fanfic gift cannot be from a pre-existing series that was created before / unrelated to the event.  This is unfair in the event that someone should feel they need to read a whole series to enjoy their gift, and it's also a way to bypass the rule on having no porn. Works can only be in a pre-existing series IF the series of a series of unconnected one-shots, and for that matter they should, again, have no rule-breaking content in the series. This rule also goes for comics and fanart, though the rules there are much looser due to the medium.
