(Buckle in this is a long one)

Nick, Nickolas, and Nicky all are trans. Nick’s deadname was Nicole (Glenn wanted to do Noelle, but Morgan thought it was a bit much. They didn’t settle on a name until Glenn just picked Nicole Cage in the place where Nick was born, and never told Morgan.), but still went by Nic. Nick’s full name was Nicotine Cage Close. Nick’s egg broke, and he came out and transitioned in the same day, I’d say around age 7 or 8, after Morgan’s death. He just kind of told Glenn during dinner, and that was it. (Glenn was immediately supportive, but messed up with pronouns for, like, three months at most.)

Nickolas’ dead name was ‘Harriet’, though on the day he was born, the doctors thought that he was a boy, and Jodie wrote Harrison (like Harrison ford it was the best one I could think of) on the birth certificate to get it done fast since they had decided on names, like, three months into the pregnancy. By the time they figured out the error, the name was already sent in. Anyways, I’d say he figured it out at about the same time as Nick, but didn’t tell Jodie until, like, five months before they ended up in Faerun. Both parents were supportive, though Jodie was confused on where the name ‘Nickolas’ came from. All the information Nickolas would give is that he just remembered it, and it felt like him. (He didn’t really forget everything, you see. They felt like dreams, half memories that you think are real until you remember what’s actually the reality you live in. That life seemed so much worse, filled with bad smelling smoke and a deep grief that permeated the air, a life that was unpredictable, and unorganized, and chaotic, a life he never had. So why does he feel sad when he compares the two? Why does he feel like he missed out on a life he was supposed to have from the beginning, when things are so much better than this? Why is he crying?)

Nicky doesn’t have a real name, not really. None of the names of his previous selves are really him, Nicky was just the only middle ground he could settle on, and even that doesn’t feel right. Though, at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter, does it. He’s just Nicky. And that’s enough, he thinks. After all, ‘Swift’ was just kind of the name he came up with on the spot. He hadn’t really put much thought into it, just needed a good cover. (He took Freeman as the last name he thinks is the real one. It was the one thing that was consistent, you see. No matter how scattered he felt, how divided, he was always Morgan’s boy. And the things that stayed the same were hers. And at least, this time, even if everything else went to shit, she knows his name.)

There are only two photos left of Nick Close. One is a Close family photo with Glenn and Morgan that mirrors a Foster family photo in the new timeline. The other picture of Nick Close is his last school picture before Faerun.

They are the only surviving photos because they were in Glenn's wallet when he was imprisoned.

Getting Nicholas and Nick smashed together to make Nicky was definitely a lot for the kid to have to sort through, but I hope that at the end of the day, the Nicholas side brought enough critical thinking to shut down Glenn's conspiracy nonsense, and Nick brought enough anti-authority to the table to shut down Jodie's copaganda and both of those things at least were fixed.

I've been doing a six fanarts challenge based around LGBT (specifically DNDads) ships on TikTok, and I just finished the first page tonight! I'm real happy with how most of these came out, and it was a wonderful excuse to fully drawn the characters, as I mostly do simplified designs. I had a lot of fun with this, and am really excited to be able to share it with y’all now!

Went a little crazy with the Oakson one I'll admit that... I'm still taking requests for ships in case anyone was wondering, I plan to do wayy more than just 6.

Taylor regularly endangered his life as a baby/toddler, to a degree that he ended on fire and on the roof at one point, at the age of three.

Nicky developed a sense for whenever Taylor endangered his life, and has been keeping him out of danger (known or unknown) ever since.
