Listen, I understand and respect the fact that Matt and Critical Role are trying to do something different with Campaign 3... they're trying to keep it exciting and keep viewers invested and you can't fault them for that.
That being said, I feel like they're trying to do TOO much.
One of Matt's greatest talents as a DM is allowing the story to go where the story needs to go and making adjustments on his end, but with Campaign 3, it feels more and more like there is an idea in his head on how he wants this campaign to go and it's stunting the natural development of other possibilities.
Last night is the perfect example, in my opinion... I have zero issues with a shift to the focus on the Crown Keepers with the eventual goal of them connecting with the Bells Hells, however, last night was not the night to do it.
FCG just died, and the party needed time to be sad and focus on that and instead, we get a sudden party switch. I understand that this may have been planned far in advance of last week's episode, but if the story wasn't in a place that made this switch appropriate at this point in time, adjustments needed to be made.
It definitely makes me more convinced that this campaign is setting up something specific, either a new system for campaign 4 or a new world/era for campaign 4, but whatver it is, this campaign just needs the space to breathe rather than there always being something needing to happen.
Some of the best moments from C1 and C2 were when there WASN'T plot and the party was allowed to fill that space with what they needed. We haven't really seen that this campaign

Things I'm obsessd with from Eltingville club:

-Pete is obsessed with chicks covered in blood meanwhile him and his friends are often covered in blood but from actual fights with each other
-Pete is apparently into the old sexy dracula movies and Josh takes note of that
-Bill's nightmare starts as basically a wet dream with sci fi babes (sci fi being Josh's thing) until it devolves into a dream of being drowned by a white liquid that comes out of Josh, pardon my Freudian dream analysis but I think something gay is happening
-Jerry who is the DM for this session has a princess with the same colors as his main ones and his friends remark how pretty she is.

And later Jerry dates a girl who looks really similar to him, and once again the other guys comment how hot she is.
And idk if this is anything but they all call themselves Secretary of their respective interests, which 1-is cute and 2-why not president or whatever? Most ppl see secretaries as a feminine thing, specially misogynist toxic fans from the early 2000s. I really feel like they are exploring things with each other, they roleplay as secretaries and princesses, they rough house a lot, they say they hate each other but always stick together even for their detriment. It feels like they all have underlying feelings for the others and can't express them from under the 10 layers of nerd culture as a way to be at the top of a social hirarchy and need for superiority most of them equate to happiness.
Jerry is the only one that managed to get out of that loop bc he used his interest in the Tragic cards as a healthy tool for him to express something he likes among people who don't feel the need to claw unto eachother to see who knows more trivia or whatver, it's a genuine competitive game he is passionate about instead of a thing he has to know all about to feel superior to other fans. It rly shows a good distinction between healthy engagements with media (playing cards together) and u healthy ones (everything else)
And also I interpret some things as being closeted trans girls, Jerry roleplaying as the princess with his color palette, Pete liking chicks covered in blood when he gets converted in blood a lot, Bill denial on letting any woman on his team and claiming he never cosplayed bc he never flaunted his boobs which just makes it sound like he wants to live those thing, he is shaming others but also repressing himself through all of that.
Also the reason Josh lost the trivia off on the pilot was because he his first thought when asked about whose catchphrase something was his first thought was his friend Jerry. Which is just sweet, he has taken note that he has been doing the catchphrase almost as a vocal stim and now associates the sound with his boy friend.
I genuinely believe deapite everything despite their need to feel superior, their need to indulge on whatever and how horrible they are to each other, they actually care.
I genuinely believe that they love each other, they are just not in good spots to communicate that and use their personas and interests to hide that love and sincerity

Anyways here's Pete defending homoeroticism good for him I guess

Hello wiggles my question for you is who is a streamer/cc/whatever that you hear about a lot but never got into yourself. Like oh that’s interesting but I have never felt a need to watch it
hi dm!! tbis is a good question bc i have a habit of not. watching streamers. and you guys may be shocked but ive never watched a full punz stream. he is a cool dude and i like seeing him in mcc and also mello freak out abt him (he is v attractive), but bc he doesn't upload on youtube (i had to check - his last upload was last year), i don't tend to see him a lot
however,, bc i have actually watched clips and bits and pieces of his stream,, i will give a 100% answering the question answer. most of offlinetv (bar toast and micheal reeves) i am not rly a fan of,, they seem nice and stuff but when i see clips i'm like: yea. cool. pokimane is also an exception bc i watched an anthony padilla interview w her and she seemed v nice :D
i think if someone exclusively streams on twitch and doesn't upload to youtube,, i am likely to hear/see a lot abt them from tumblr, but not watch them myself bc of that (i am a youtube's dog or whatver ludwig calls them),,
OH i class georgenotfound under this as well. cool dude. he confuses me for several reasons, many woukd get me cancelled on twitter i think. you can ask and i will reveal them.
i am aware of the irony
#wiggles asks#hi dm :D#v good question thank u!!#yes my brand is dnf. no i don't watch george not found. yes we exist.

As a writer, you can ask those questions in your writing, but understand that they do evoke those responses.
Additionally (in my very strong opinion), there’s a word writers need to be VERY careful about using in writing, and that word is “would.”
Would...is a conditional word. VERY conditional. If you’re not sure what that means, then take whatever you want to say with “would” in the sentence, and phrase it more thoroughly.
Example 1: take the statement, “He would walk to the table and sit down to talk with her.”
Seems pretty straightforward, yes? Except it isn’t.
Would means this is something you want to do...but something is preventing you.
So, always double-check your use of would in a sentence when writing a story by...expanding the sentence.
He would walk to the table and sit down to talk with her...but he tripped over the cat on the way there, ruining the moment.
He would walk to the table and sit down to talk with her...except the phone rang, and he detoured to answer it.
He would walk to the table and sit down to talk with her...if she hadn’t taken both of the only two chairs by sitting in one and resting her feet on the other.
Would is a conditional statement. It always indicates that some condition has to be met before the sentiment being expressed can be followed through. This can be something preventing them from doing whatver-it-is, period...or something preventing them from doing whatever-it-is right now.
Example 2: “She would like to go to the mountains.”
She would like to go to the mountains...before the snows of winter fall / ...after the snows of winter melt.
She would like to go to the mountains...but doesn’t want to go alone.
She would like to go to the mountains...but will simply have to wait until her leg heals from fracturing it while water skiing.
(You do not have to put the ... into your sentences; this is just being done as a visual reminder to expand them beyond where you wanted them to stop.)
Example 3 comes straight outta the fifth book in my milSF series, Damnation:
“It would be an honor to call you by your given name,” Ia agreed under her breath as they strode out onto the stage together, to the applause of the people gathered in the auditorium, “but this is still very much a formal moment, Sir.”
As you can see, would is used correctly in this instance. It has a conditional modifier attached; she’d call Admiral-General Christine Myang by her given name, Christine...except they’re in a formal moment, walking onto a stage for an awards ceremony.
Additionally, the character Ia (remember, it’s pronounced ee-yah with an i-a, not Lah with an L-a) is always very careful about her use of would statements. She often uses them to make it seem like she’s complying with orders, or at least willing to comply with orders, without actually lying to her superiors about her knowledge that the future isn’t always going to the way they want it to go. (Even if she has to help nudge it away from that path personally, in some...okay, many...instances... >.>* )
Would is also a very passive statement. The reason you want to avoid it in your narrative sentences (you can use it if you like in dialogue since people do that all the time) is because it prevents the action from happening.
In all cases like Example #1, using would is like trying walk when your legs are bound to a chair. You’re not going to get very far. Literally, let’s use Example #1 again--the need to get your character over to the table, seated, and ready to talk with someone--and compare it when it’s phrased with would, and when it’s phrased without would.
Which sentence version sounds more dynamic?
He would walk to the table and sit down to talk with her. Hint: He hasn’t moved yet, because something is stopping him from moving!
He walked to the table and sat down to talk with her. Hint: Holy crapoly, he actually moved!! Mainly because nothing was stopping him, and no conditions needed to be met to allow him to move!
Now, sometimes you want to prevent an action...but again, would is a passive method of phrasing things. You can make it much more active and dynamic by rephrasing it in a different way, and here are a couple examples for contrast and comparison:
He would walk to the table and sit down to talk with her, but with his social anxiety running high, he could not remember how to walk normally, and did not want to let her see him jerking and wobbling across the kitchen like a total dork. Okay, this one’s a bit wordy, but that’s what you get when you rob the action through passive-voice tactics.
He wanted to sit and talk with her, but his spiking social anxiety paralyzed him in place on the far side of the kitchen, frozen under a staggering fear of wobbling with each step like a total dork if he even tried to go to her right now. I made this one equally long (more or less) for comparison, but it has a more active quality to it than the first version, wouldn’t you agree?
The “right now” bit is also a conditional modifier, but it’s not an assumed one. It’s explicitly stated that, at this moment, certain conditions are preventing him from moving immediately. But since it’s a distinct unit of time (”right now”), it gives action to the inaction, because it reassures the reader that eventually “right now” will become “later” and his anxiety will release him, allowing him to either move toward her, or flee the area entirely/strategically retreat.
Additionally, if you’re doing RP, roleplaying...would is even more of a conditional modifier.
Remove would from your descriptions of how your own character is choosing to act, because your DM or GM (dungeon master / games master) might assume you are not doing said action...with the exception of stating, “I would like my character to move past the security guards to the elevator.” That’s a case where the security guards (presumably non-player-characters, NPCs) are going to have to react to the attempted movement.
That’s because if you are talking about something your character wishes to do with (or to) another player’s character (NPCs are usually considered the DM’s characters in these circumstances), then use “would” to give the other player a chance to decide whether or not their character will agree that such-and-such proposed action took place.
Anyway, word-choice is very important. How you say something can & will affect how others perceive it, absorb it, internalize it, react to it, & express it themselves at some later point.
Be kinder to your children, be more active with the way your stories are told to your readers, and remember, most NPCs should not be randomly killed. Some might even be essential for your own survival...and it would be a shame if you killed them, only to find out later on that they were the only person who would have been able to save you from an even greater threat later on...

Hello I am here to rotate some ideas past you
The ideas are double life pairings I think would have gone super well
-pearl and etho: okay, so they’re both in Saturday night stabby stabby, so they know each other decently. They’re both super clever and not afraid to really tempt with fate. They aren’t afraid. I would fear them.
-pearl and grian: the sibling duo we needed tbh also they’d either be dead of their own stupidity or have killed everyone the second they hit red. I am craving more pearl and grian interactions all the time bc they’re besties
-unrelated to double life I kinda wanna see a pearl and doc rivalry in hermitcraft bc I think that would be interesting
-why is everything abt pearl
-more things should be abt pearl
more things SHOULD be abt pearl ur so correct dm. the pearl vs doc hc thing is so correct i would love to see them interact more. i think it would be so interesting!!
grian and pearl would be absolutely hilarious you can tell they gel well whenever they talk to each other. i think they'd also be quite formidable as a pair, make it to the end perhaps. i'm now imagining scott and scar as a pair bc of it and i am rotating it in my head
etho and pearl weren't paired together for the sake of the server. they'd be unstoppable or die instantly. i love ethos whole vibe and whatver pearls going on sepeaelt , so together it'd be quite the combo
thank u dm for rotating these ideas past me i enjoyed looking at them from many angles 10/10 shapes yup :D
#did grian come from brian#sorry i mistyped it and now i'm thinking too hard abt it#wiggles asks#hi dm :D#thank u for sending ask v much appreciated dm ur a gem :D
