i made an important decision today, & i'm not sure if it was the correct one. i did what I could reasonably do, so i don't regret it one bit. either way, this post has more to do with a playlist/movie I made after rewatching 'call me by your name'.

the film takes place in northern italy & revolves around two lovers, elio & oliver (played by timothée chalamet & armie hammer respectively). it's a period piece that is set in the year 1983, with a soundtrack reminiscent of dance clubs & the synthwave that would rise from the transition period borne from post-punk.

a song that is used twice in the film is the 1982 single by the psychedelic furs, "Love My Way". this song would go on to fit snugly on their third album, 'Forever Now'.

even though the watch is held together with the sort of melancholy that follows first loves, a lot of the glue in between is sweet & honest. there's a speech in the movie that has always stuck in my head, even upon my initial watch in theaters way back in 2017. I won't spoil the speech, but it perfectly encapsulates loss, & the feelings associated with becoming more closed off as time goes on.

truly an amazing movie, & an even better song to act as a sigil for the intent of the narrative. it meets the audience halfway in the most organic & real way possible.
