Nourishing Pre-Wash DIY Hair Mask

For a long time I was contemplating if I should post on Tumblr so here I go.

I am actually doing this for myself because I feel that I will be adding value to people’s lives in some way if they benefit from the quick DIYs I will be posting. Secondly, it might help me reduce my social anxiety because I usually don’t even post.

Anyways here it goes,

If you feel your scalp is dry and flaky, this might help you. I have been suffering from a flaky scalp for years, and although the dandruff is still present, the flakiness has reduced, and my scalp feels very nourished.

Tip: try using glycolic acid or ketoconazole shampoo to help with an itchy scalp. These shampoos are strong, so use them only once during your shower. For the second shampooing, opt for a hydrating shampoo containing ingredients like milk, argan oil, or any other moisturizing agent. Remember, using strong shampoos twice could contribute to dryness, so it's crucial to follow up with a mild or hydrating shampoo. Hence, one-time use of anti-dandruff shampoo followed by a mild or hydrating shampoo.

Now, let’s get started with the recipe:

Ghee is a staple used in Indian kitchens. If you don’t have ghee, you can easily make it at home. There are thousands of recipes available on the internet, or you can buy it from any local market. Ghee is inexpensive and readily available. It is lactose-free and rich in vitamins, nutrients, and fatty acids, such as omega-3 and omega-9.

This is a two ingredient recipe - in this ghee is going to be our star ingredient and coconut oil is our second ingredient which is easily replaceable. If you don’t wish to use coconut oil, you can substitute it with any other carrier oil which you have example avocado, almond oil, etc.

I am using coconut oil because it is very light, and since ghee itself is heavy, we want to maximize the benefits from it. Additionally, coconut oil is readily available in most households. However, if you don't agree, feel free to skip it and use another oil or even yogurt instead.

Instructions:

In a bowl take ghee and coconut oil in 3:1 ratio (if you are using yogurt then do it in 1:1 ratio)

Mix well and slightly heat the mixture, it should be lukewarm, like heat max 10-30 seconds, just to ensure ghee is melted. After that massage it in your scalp for good 15 minutes.

You might smell like butter popcorn when you are applying ghee and make sure that you remove ghee well from your hair really well because it is really nicely stuck on your scalp as it is very sticky and greasy.

Keep it for 30 mins-3 hrs then wash it off as you usually do.

You can even keep it overnight but since it is very sticky, I would advice to wash off a little earlier because more time you keep the more harder it becomes for you to remove it.
