Are you a van owner looking to transform your vehicle into a cozy home on wheels? Look no further than adding a bed to your setup. With a comfortable sleeping space, you can hit the road and explore the great outdoors without sacrificing comfort. A van bed can come in many different forms, from a simple mattress on the floor to a fully customized platform with storage underneath. Whatever your preference, there are plenty of options to choose from to fit your specific needs and budget. Not only does a van bed provide a comfortable place to sleep, but it also maximizes the space in your vehicle. With the addition of storage underneath or around the bed, you can keep your belongings organized and easily accessible while on the go. 🚐💤🌲1. The Benefits of Adding a Bed to Your Van ConversionHaving a bed in your van conversion can make all the difference in your travels. Here are some benefits: Comfort: A bed provides a comfortable place to sleep and rest after a long day on the road. Convenience: No need to set up a tent or find a hotel room, your bed is always with you. Cost-effective: Saves money on accommodation costs. Flexibility: You can park your van and sleep anywhere you want. Privacy: You have your own private space to sleep and relax. Health: A good night's sleep is essential for your physical and mental health. There are different types of beds you can add to your van conversion: Foldable bed: Easy to store during the day and comfortable to sleep on at night. Fixed bed: Provides a permanent sleeping space, but takes up more room in the van. Bunk bed: Great for families or groups, but takes up more vertical space. Hammock: A unique and space-saving option for solo travelers. When choosing a bed for your van conversion, consider the size of your van, your budget, and your personal preferences. Don't forget to add some cozy bedding and pillows to make your sleeping space even more inviting. 😴2. Choosing the Right Type of Bed for Your VanWhen choosing a bed for your van, consider your needs and the space available. Platform beds are sturdy and provide storage space underneath. Folding beds can be stored away during the day and offer more living space. Bunk beds are great for families or those who want to maximize sleeping space. Think about the height of the bed and how it will affect your headroom. Low beds are great for those who want to sit up in bed. High beds provide more storage space underneath but may feel cramped. Consider the materials used for the bed frame and mattress. Wooden frames are sturdy and can be customized to fit your van's aesthetic. Metal frames are lightweight and durable. Memory foam mattresses are comfortable and can be cut to fit your van's dimensions. Don't forget about bedding. Choose bedding that is easy to clean and store. Consider using sleeping bags or blankets instead of traditional sheets and comforters. Ultimately, the right bed for your van depends on your personal preferences and needs. 🛏️🚐💤3. Essential Tools and Materials for Building a Van Bed 🛠️ Tools needed: drill, saw, measuring tape, screws, screwdriver, jigsaw, sandpaper, and level. 🛏️ Materials needed: plywood, foam mattress, hinges, brackets, L-shaped brackets, wood glue, and screws. 📏 Measure the van's dimensions to ensure the bed fits. Cut the plywood to size and sand the edges. Attach hinges to the plywood to make it easier to lift and access storage underneath. 🔩 Attach L-shaped brackets to the van's walls to support the bed frame. Use brackets to attach the plywood to the L-brackets. Add brackets to the center of the bed for extra support. 🔨 Cut and attach support beams to the bed frame for added stability. Use wood glue to secure the beams to the frame. Place the foam mattress on top of the plywood and secure it with screws. 👍 With these essential tools and materials, building a van bed is easy and affordable. Get creative with your design and make the most out of your van living experience.4. Step-by-Step Guide to Building a Custom Bed for Your Van First, measure the dimensions of your van to determine the size of the bed platform. Consider the height of the platform and the thickness of the mattress. Use 2x4 or 2x6 lumber for the bed frame. Secure the frame to the van floor using L-brackets. Add crossbeams for support. Next, cut plywood to fit the frame and sand the edges. Place the plywood on top of the frame and secure it with screws. Use foam or a mattress pad for comfort. Add storage underneath the bed. Install a privacy curtain for a cozy feel. Finally, add finishing touches such as LED lights or a headboard. Test the bed for stability and adjust as needed. 🛠️🔨🛏️ Happy building! 5. Tips for Maximizing Space and Comfort in Your Van BedWhen it comes to van life, maximizing space and comfort in your bed is crucial. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your sleeping quarters: Invest in a high-quality mattress to ensure a good night's sleep. Consider a platform bed with storage underneath to maximize space. Add curtains or blinds for privacy and to block out light. Use a memory foam topper for added comfort. Install a fan or vent to keep air circulating and prevent condensation. Other tips to enhance your van bed experience: Use a sleeping bag or duvet instead of traditional bedding to save space. Add throw pillows for a cozy touch. Hang string lights or use a dimmable lamp for ambiance. Consider a blackout curtain or eye mask to help you sleep better. Use a small shelf or bedside table for storing essentials like books and water. Remember, the key to maximizing space and comfort in your van bed is to get creative and prioritize your needs. With a little planning and some thoughtful additions, you can turn your van into a cozy and comfortable home on wheels. 😊6. Maintenance and Upkeep of Your Van Bed: What You Need to KnowKeeping your van bed in good condition is essential for a comfortable and safe journey. Here are some tips to help you maintain and upkeep your van bed: Regularly clean your bed with a damp cloth to remove any dirt or debris. Use a mattress protector to keep your bed clean and protect it from spills and stains. Rotate and flip your mattress every few months to prevent sagging and prolong its lifespan. Check for any signs of wear and tear, such as holes or frayed edges, and repair them immediately. Invest in quality bedding and pillows for a good night's sleep. When it comes to the upkeep of your van bed, prevention is key. Here are some things to keep in mind: Avoid jumping or standing on your bed to prevent damage. Don't overload your bed with heavy items that could cause it to sag or break. Keep your bed dry to prevent mold and mildew from forming. 2.5" solid Black Walnut bed! I made this bed 14 years ago at 18 years of age. I remember at the time playing around with the layout of planks for that headboard and lining up the sapwood like that and placing it to run across the centre and I thought I'd nailed it! Nah, the mattress I ended up getting was far deeper than anticipated. Now those beautiful pieces of well oiled Walnut spend their time hidden away behind pillows 🤦🏻‍♀️ What a prick! #blackwalnut #walnutbed #diybed #measuretwicecutonce #sapwood https://www.instagram.com/p/Bx0tHO4FUMq/?igshid=dwc41lah1f0u

koholish was created by @changeling-rin! i just used it in this translation, it isn’t mine
english/original fic here!
me at the beginning of this being like “oh this’ll be a fun short project to take a break from my other stuff!” oh you innocent, innocent soul. i think i’ve spent hours on this thing and it’s only a bit over 1k words. i was gonna translate these final notes too but by now i’m like “fuck no”, i translated the original notes but that’s IT. i’m sorry for any mistranslations or inconsistencies, my brain isn't registering words anymore lmaoo
“hyar” is the word for “just”, the just hero says “hya!” lol
Kubj is so ugly, why is Link’s Koholish name Like That. originally i was gonna translate his name in the fic too but i decided not to bc 1) i hate “Kubj” 2) Link would introduce himself in his native language yada yada excuse excuse
honestly names in general (or at least the ones in this fic) are hit-or-miss in Koholish. Martha’s name becoming “Nelërgel” is acceptable, but “Marin” to “Nlëub” is. not my idea of aesthetic oof. i could’ve gone w “Nelëub” but idk it feels too long and i don’t want to get rid of every “nl” cause that sound is native to Koholish
the pronouns are really pretty, gew = he, gua = his, gwë = her, tiy = you, tiylëw = you’re. though “they” turned into “regwet” which just sounds like owofied “regret” lmaooo
i didn’t translate “hmph!” letter-by-letter bc it’s an onomatopoeia, instead i used a few sounds that are natural to Koholish and smushed them together in a way that resembled a scoff. same with “hmm” to “ernn” and “huh” to “ekk”. hey i mean “huh” sounds like “wha” just rearranged just like how “ekk” sounds like the first syllable of “qegler”(“what”) just rearranged too. see i can be smart once in a while are you proud of me pin mother
i also didn’t translate “Koholint” bc presumably the Koholint residents would tell Link the name of the island in Koholish, not Hyrulean, so yeah Koholint is its actual name. also bc Jigikubr is awful, why are Koholish names so bad :((( Koholish is really pretty at some parts, like how “storm” is “ariën” and “water” is “qlerwë” and “after” is “ledrewë” — and then Koholish pulls stuff like Kubj and Jigikubr
Link still thinks in English bc he thinks in his native language, Hyrulean, and bc he’s the pov character i’m using English (most of the readers’ native language) to stand in for Hyrulean
i didn’t really have a pattern for inserting the e’s? at least not one i noticed, you could probably pick one out if you tried though. i sort of just put the e’s between any syllables my mouth tripped over, not based on the number of consonants — bc consonant clusters are common in multiple languages, so i didn’t want to just get rid of all of them. also, for “agwe” (“she”) i put the e at the end instead of between the g and the w so it would look more like the pronoun for “her” (“gwë”). and for “le” (“a”) i added that extra e bc “l” by itself is kinda weird for an indefinite article so yeah, “le”
