2024 On Mind, BJP Brainstorms Over Chief Minister Choices For 3 States
The BJP will choose its Chief Ministers for three heartland states — Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh — with an eye on the 2024 Lok Sabha election, party sources have said, adding that new faces may be chosen in all three states.
The BJP won the Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, results of which were declared on Sunday. The party’s central leadership has been holding discussions on the Chief Minister probables in the three states.
A four-and-a-half hour meeting was held at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence yesterday, during which the frontrunners in the three states were considered. The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda.
This marathon meeting followed a series of meetings held by Mr Shah and Mr Nadda with the BJP’s in-charges of these states to gather feedback about state leaders.
The BJP’s central leadership is likely to appoint observers for the three states soon. These observers will oversee meetings of newly elected MLAs in the three states to elect their leaders in the Assembly.
In Madhya Pradesh, incumbent Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is a contender for the top post, along with Union ministers Prahlad Patel, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Narendra Singh Tomar, and senior state leader Kailash Vijayvargiya.
Several names are doing the rounds for the Rajasthan top post too. While former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has been elected as an MLA, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Arjun Ram Meghwal, state party president C P Joshi, and prominent leaders Diya Kumari and Mahant Balaknath are being seen as probables.
Former Chief Minister Raman Singh is among the contenders in Chhattisgarh. State BJP president Arun Kumar Sao, leader of opposition Dharamlal Kaushik and former IAS officer O P Chaudhary are also being seen as contenders for the Chief Minister post.
It must, however, be kept in mind that the BJP leadership is known to spring a surprise with its choices.

Following Madhya Pradesh, it is now Rajasthan's turn. The names of BJP candidates have been finalized for 24 seats; the list will be released soon.
The first list of BJP candidates includes most of the seats where the party's position is strong. Additionally, candidates' names may also be announced for seats considered relatively weaker, about five to six in number. The national leadership of BJP had requested a list of potential candidates for approximately 65 seats from the leaders participating in the core committee about two weeks ago.
After Madhya Pradesh, the first list of BJP candidates for Rajasthan could be announced at any time. The party has confirmed candidates for more than a dozen assembly seats. Following consensus in the State Core Committee on these names, the national leadership of the party has also expressed agreement. Candidates' names will be declared for both strong and relatively weaker seats. The first list of BJP candidates includes most of the seats where the party's position is strong. Additionally, candidates' names may also be announced for seats considered relatively weaker, about five to six in number. Two weeks ago, the national leadership had requested the list of candidates. About two weeks ago, the national leadership of BJP had requested a list of potential candidates for approximately 65 seats from the leaders participating in the core committee. These leaders had submitted their respective lists to the leadership. Consensus was reached on one name among all leaders for two dozen seats. Consequently, it was decided to release candidates' names for these seats in the first list. A member of the core committee disclosed that Lok Sabha MPs Diya Kumari, Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuria, and Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Lal Meena have almost reached consensus on contesting the assembly elections. According to sources, the first list will include the names of former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, opposition leader Rajendra Rathore, Deputy Leader Satish Poonia, Kirori Lal, and Diya Kumari. These seats will be included in the first list. Out of the 200 assembly constituencies in Rajasthan, BJP holds a strong position in Bundi, Kota South, Ladpura, Ramganjmandi, Jhalrapatan, Khanpur, Asind, Bhilwara, Vidhadhar Nagar, Sanganer, Udaipur, Rajsamand, Ajmer North and Ajmer South, Bhopalgarh, Bikaner East, Ratanpura, Alwar City, Sojat, Pali, Bali, Sursagar, Chaumu, Fulera, and Jhotwara. The names were submitted to the national leadership by the core committee members. These seats are considered the strongest for BJP. Moreover, in the last two to three elections, candidates from these five to six seats have faced defeat. Their names will also be in the first list. According to sources, Navalgarh, Sikaraya, Lalsot, Fatehpur, Dantaramgarh, Vallabhnagar, Badi, Bassi, Todabheem, Nathdwara, Bagidora, Sanchore, and Sardarpura are included in the list as the weakest seats for BJP. Relatives of MPs and senior leaders will not receive tickets. A member of the core committee revealed that there is a clear directive from the national leadership that tickets will not be given to any relative of a sitting MP or senior leader. MP Jasakaur Meena wants to field his daughter Archana from Sawai Madhopur, Rahul Kaswa wants to field his father Ramsingh from Sadulshahar, and MLA Suryakanta Vyas wants to secure a ticket for his son. However, according to the party's established guidelines, contesting for these seats is being considered difficult. Out of 15 seats, victory was only achieved on three. The argument against fielding relatives in elections is that in the 2018 elections, BJP had given tickets to relatives of leaders on 15 seats. Out of these, only three managed to win, while the rest lost. Therefore, the party believes that voters do not favor dynastic politics. Read the full article

Rajasthan Has Become India's "Rape Capital" Under Gehlot Government: BJP
BJP MP Ranjeeta Koli, who comes from the Dalit community, said the state has been known for its tradition of respect for women. But it has been reduced to "rapist Rajasthan", she alleged.
New Delhi: The BJP alleged on Thursday that Rajasthan has become the “rape capital” of India under the government of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and asserted that he has no right to remain in the post.
BJP MP Ranjeeta Koli, who comes from the Dalit community, said the state has been known for its tradition of respect for women. But it has been reduced to “rapist Rajasthan”, she alleged.
Diya Kumari, another woman MP of the party, also slammed the Congress government in the state, citing the recent case of a girl being allegedly raped and killed. The girl’s burnt body was recovered from a coal furnace in Bhilwara.
“Rajasthan has become the rape capital,” she said, citing National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) figures of cases of atrocities against women in which the state fares poorly.
Both the MPs at a press conference cited several recent cases of sexual assault and killing of women.
“Women are not safe even at home,” Ms Kumari said.
Taking a swipe at Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, she said Mrs Vadra goes to the state on vacation but has never met the families of women victims.
