i finished skamfr s2. lord help me
this is a season. that Exists
watching this made me remember all the things that i didn't like about og, so i'll be coming back to that a lot, but i won't give skamfr a lot of credit for these offenses since og did them first
final comment before diving in the story and characters... the cinematography here is such a mess. why do they have to ruin their shots with oversaturated colors and weird lighting? like, just look at these
THEY LOOK SO WEIRD AND UGLY. as a gifmaker, if i'd been coloring something like this, this would've been the point where i say "alright that's WAY too much, let's backtrack a little". pre s3 skamfr gifmakers i'm so sorry for y'all
okay. what does skamfr accomplish better than the original... i found emma slightly less annoying than eva during s2. it was cute that she didn't treat her breakup w yann as a really good fuck, but a genuinely nice moment that she treasures in her heart. manon was never as mean to daphné as noora was to vilde in og, which is always appreciated. didn't feel like she had a personal vendetta against her and her morality, but that she played the part in not taking daphné seriously - and also stopped when she realized that the girls felt uncomfortable w that. the little changes in manon felt... better this time around? she's not the preachy tumblr feminist that noora was at the beginning of s2, so when she tried to use the syrian crisis stuff to say that charles was Bad, it didn't felt as if she was clinging to non existent morals to keep herself from falling for him, it just felt like an excuse she'd say to not get together w him.
but again it IS my problem w og that we never got a season of what it means to have those tumblr ideals in the real world and while skamfr didn't do anything to go down that route, at least they didn't do it as bad. from manon's part, that is.
the fight scene and the party w charles' brother were great scenes, i liked how they synced the shots and the music.
manon's actress is really good! most of her emotions were believable, though the "convos happen way too fast" problem often dragged her abilities down lol. she's a far better crier than emma's actress.
as for charles... eh. i'm glad his portrayal was more believable from the actor's part. didn't take me out of the story anymore, so props to him i guess
i feel like i've run out of good things to say so let's dive in on the remains of this fuckery.
mika is ANNOYING AS FUCK. was eskild ever so fucking annoying during s2........like during his first scenes i kept wondering if i found him to be more funny than annoying, but annoying won by far. i wish they didn't spend so much time on his very unfunny very loud scenes where he's annoying to manon. that said... mika and manon feel way more like a sibling duo than noora and eskild felt to me, so that's a win i guess. immensely dragged down by how much i dislike mika
same goes to the lynn character whose name i already forgot. she doesn't hold the same relatability that lynn held, and the annoying comedic relief spot is already taken, thank you so much. she often destroyed the emotional impact of some scenes and it just made me feel bad for manon's actress :/
the girl squad is fine i guess not a lot happens w them in s2 that makes their bond stronger or whatever. they're just... side characters w annoying side plots that have nothing to do w manon and just serve as a distraction to the mess that it's the central plot. but that was an og problem, so don't worry france. the bar was... low, though
like why are they so emotionally deaf towards their friends.... that scene where emma was reading manon's article to the girls and manon starts crying and emma says "am i reading it wrongly?"...... what the fuck is wrong w you????? your friend is crying???? go comfort her???????
some of those moments are clearly played for laughs and it's sad that they sacrifice relationship development for the sake of jokes that don't even work.
final comment on manon's friendship... how is it. that manon is telling everyone "i will go on one date w charles so he stops playing w my friend's feelings" and everyone is like haha that's great you're gonna fall in love this is so Funny and Okay. can manon get better friends to tell her that a guy blackmailing you into a date via hurting one of your friends is.... not cute or normal in any way?????? jfc. again, this is an og issue first. and again, fuck the bar was so low.
yes i've avoided talking about charles and the relationship because... sigh. it's the part that i dislike the most and it's all over the season and i'm bored!
there's such missed potential in a charles & manon friendship, that ties into skam not knowing how to deliver an enemies to lovers plotline in an organic way. the fastest way to make that happen is to have william blackmail noora into a date... which immediately ruins everything because that's just an incredibly nasty thing to do. and charles (william?) never truly does anything to redeem himself. they have a nice dynamic during the sleepover scene but charles is too occupied being the Mysterious Bad Guy™ and also super creepy in general and it just doesn't work!
i swear that in every moment where the show kinda did its job and made me empathize and understand charles, he just said something so emotionally abusive and manipulative that it'd took me out instantly. and i can't remember if william did the same in most of those scenes.
it's sad because noora's season is never about noora, but her relationship w william. there's nothing to be said about her family, her morality, her ideals, her friendships, her conflicts. everything stays the same except for her relationship w william. and here is pretty much the same... at the end, if you're not a noorhelm fan, you'll get bored. and after manon and charles got together everything was boring to me.
idk what i can say to express my dislike for the relationship, because it kinda has already been said. charles just doesn't evolve for the good, it's manon who changes for him because she's the one who has to be the bigger person and give him the benefit of the doubt and try to understand him and get to his intimate side. and i'm so bored of that trope. women are not rehabilitation centers and they shouldn't be forced to deal w someone's toxicity because they may Be Good Inside. anyways watch skam españa season 3
the show doesn't really do anything to acknowledge manon's flaws and while they do address charles' they never do anything to change his toxic ways, so what we're left with is a boring het couple where you have to squint really, really hard to see charles as a highschooler. og's fault too, and france didn't do anything to better it.
what else is there to say... eh. i'm glad i'm done w this because i'm pretty sure it can only get better after this season

MONTH OF October
Ready to bring those crisp edges back, Bull? Prepare to optimize your life as the Libra Sun activates your healthy, organized sixth house until October 23. As a methodical earth sign, you really do function best with a simple, streamlined routine, and this month gives you ideal conditions for creating that. Chaos will fade (mostly) into the rearview as you plan and prioritize. Pinpoint the parts of your life that have gotten unwieldy—then delegate, declutter or dive in for a cleanup mission.
The Libra new moon on October 8 is particularly prime for starting a new habit, work project or wellness practice. With holiday hedonism on the horizon, regular exercise and clean eating will help balance out the impending temptations that will be way too good to resist. Want to get more in tune with the rhythms of your spending patterns, health and time management? There’s an app for that; install a few! The sixth house rules service, so look for volunteer opportunities or initiate a giving drive at work. Bonus points if you round up a few friends and turn your do-gooding into a social occasion. Since pets also fall under this new moon’s domain, pay attention to the unconditionally loving critters in your life. If you’re thinking of adopting, start your search!
All of this grounding (if unsexy) stuff will have a secondary benefit: to distract you from your ruling planet, Venus, turning retrograde October 5 to November 16. The galactic guardian of love, sensuality and harmony shifts gears for six weeks every 18 months, a time when humanity’s graciousness can go AWOL. Venus will reverse through Scorpio and your seventh house of partnerships until October 31, then it will back into Libra and your sixth house of work and wellness for the duration.

This month, you could struggle to feel in sync with your closest peeps, especially in love. But don’t despair: repair! Take this as a cosmic cue to lean in closer and make some proactive changes. Direct communication is always good, but with gentle Venus on the lam, you’ll want to don a pair of kid gloves before you start ladling out the truth serum. For some Bulls, a little separation might be the only thing that helps one or both of you cool down and regain perspective. Retrogrades are notorious for bringing back people from the past, and you could see an old flame or work rival resurface. What might this person have to teach or reflect back to you, Taurus? Professionally, this could be a tricky time if you’re negotiating contracts or working on a joint project. The other party could seem ruthless, rude or fickle. Take your time and make sure everyone is being treated humanely.
Luckily, you’ll get a bit of cosmic counterbalance starting October 23, when the Sun enters Scorpio and your zone of dynamic duos for a month. Forget about using that old “Screw people—I’ll just do it all myself!” strategy. The stars will insist that you encircle yourself with a few true-blue souls who have your back through it all. (You may need each other for a little extra support if Venus retrograde starts acting up!)
In the midst of any interpersonal drama, the stars will cut through with a blaring PSA: You’re awesome, Taurus! That message blasts over the lunar loudspeaker on October 24 as the year’s only Taurus full moon casts its brightest beams on your first house of self and independence. If you’ve been focusing too much on what THEY did/said/thought, switch to your front-facing mental camera and put all that attention back on yourself. A big idea that’s been percolating since your birthday could also come together powerfully, perhaps with some public recognition and applause. If you’ve been letting others lean too heavily on you or have been putting their needs before your own, don’t be surprised if you get a surge of righteous anger that prompts you to (finally) say, “Enough!”

If you celebrate Halloween on October 31, be aware that the night could get a bit intense. With the moon in Leo and your sensitive, domestic fourth house, you might opt for a chill house party (or pass out candy to the tiny revelers) since you’ll be a bit of an emotional sponge, especially with the moon in a testy square (90-degree angle) to the Sun. Venus, still retrograde, will also make a jarring opposition to unpredictable Uranus in Taurus before backing into Libra and your skittish sixth house in November. Under these impulsive skies, your moods could be extra temperamental, so if you do venture out, make sure you feel grounded and supported.
LOVE & ROMANCE:
It ain’t over till it’s over? This month, the past could circle around as love and romance planet Venus turns retrograde from October 5 to November 16. This tricky six-week cycle, which happens every 18 months, is a time for relationship review and reflection. Are you on the right path when it comes to seeking or nurturing love? Is your heart fully in your current situation? Do you have unresolved stuff still in the space, like unspoken resentment or an unexpressed need? That could all come rushing out, ready or not.
Since Venus is your ruling planet, you may be more affected by its backspins than other signs. This time, it will retrograde through Scorpio and your committed-relationship house until October 31, then it will back into Libra and your orderly sixth house until turning direct (forward) on November 16.
This month, Venus could bring an ex back into your orbit or turn your thoughts to a former relationship that needs closure. Where do you have baggage that hasn’t been handled? Couples could bicker more often or feel a dissonance as harmonious Venus goes adrift. In more extreme cases, Venus retrograde can prompt you to end a going-nowhere relationship or to finally address a sticking point that’s kept you from progressing. If you’ve been obsessing over a lost love, this Venus cycle could help you finally accept an ending and release your grip on the past so you can start moving forward again.

But what DO you want, Taurus? With driven Mars in Aquarius and your goal-oriented tenth house all month, your heart isn’t the only metric for decision-making. No matter how much you adore someone, if your efforts to create a shared long-term life together are constantly thwarted, it will be hard to keep the good vibes flowing. Is it time to adopt a “no more excuses” policy? (Hint: probably!)
With Mars heating up your career sector, your busy work schedule could also distract you from romance—which might actually be a good thing while Venus is retrograde. But if you’re dealing with drama both at work and in your personal life, that could take you to the edge.
That tension reaches a peak on October 10, when Venus and Mars lock into yet another of this year’s heated squares, a month after their prior one. With both love planets in stubborn fixed signs, you could not only feel pulled between polarizing interests, but it may be hard to get anyone to compromise.
Luckily, you’ll have articulate Mercury in Scorpio and your partnership house from October 9 to 31 to mitigate some of the Venus drama and help you put those complicated feelings into words (or an email that you “save to Draft” and sleep on first!). Try to use “active listening” techniques, including letting people speak without interrupting (or assuming you know what they’re going to say next) and mirroring back what they’ve said so they feel heard. If you need the same in return, set up ground rules before you have any tough discussions to keep things civil between you. Key Dates: October 24: Sun-Uranus opposition Compromise doesn’t have to mean giving up too much. When these fierce planetary forces face off, no one wants to budge. The choice is yours: Stay locked in a stalemate or be the one to make the first concession.

MONEY & CAREER:
Ready for a career coup? You may finally feel like you’re making serious headway on a professional ambition this month, when driven Mars returns to Aquarius after a teaser of a visit from mid-May to mid-August—and most of THAT time, it was in reverse. You might have felt you going nowhere fast! But now the action planet will heat things up in your tenth house of success and public image until November 15. You’ll have the motivation AND the energy. Just add a clear goal and the sky’s the limit!
Note that Mars can also heap on the tension, so as demands and deadlines intensify, make sure you have a healthy outlet for stress. Because the red-blooded planet will push you to “work smarter, not harder,” you need to stay focused on your most important objectives instead of getting lost in the weeds. Adopting a strong sense of leadership will get you through—and earn you major respect.
Lending support is the Sun in Libra and your sixth house of organization and efficiency. A good practice between now and October 23 would be to simplify all your systems and delegate everything that doesn’t require your personal input. If you only have one day to devote to that, make it October 8, when the annual Libra new moon turbo-charges this realm and offers the opportunity for all kinds of fresh starts. Seeds planted then will get a little extra cosmic fertilizer!
One thing to watch out for is pseudo-allies who actually DON’T have your back. With your ruling planet, cooperative Venus, spinning backward in your partnership corner from October 5 to November 16, your normally sharp antennae may be a little rusty. To be safe, avoid anyone who can’t (or won’t) give you a direct answer or always seem to whip up drama and distraction. Don’t assume a deal is done until the ink is dry. If things stall, rather than get frustrated, use that time to do a little more due diligence on this thing so that when Venus resumes forward motion, you can hit the gas and GO!

A Conversation: Lost Under Heaven
“The Manchester duo Lost Under Heaven, or LUH, have never been keen on subtlety. Super-sized in every dimension, the music of former WU LYF leader Ellery Roberts and visual artist Ebony Hoorn sought grand answers about love and mortality by way of drastic melodies.”
First off, for people who dont know, who is Lost Under Heaven? Ebony Hoorn & Ellery James Roberts Collaborative life work.
The first time I heard of you guys was 'I&I' on the HBO show Ballers and I was hooked. I originally thought of bands like July Talk etc, where the voice coming from the person is a surprise, in a very fascinating and amazing way. Was there a moment you can remember when you (Ellery Roberts) realized you had such a unique voice? When I was young I found a cathartic uplift in singing as hard as I could, usually in response to the noise of the rest of what ever teenage band I was playing with, since then I’ve learned to control it, focus it, People always tell me my voice is unique, it’s just how it comes out, but these days I am singing quite differently, working on a softer croon. I have nothing to shout about anymore.
In regards to the previous question, whats it like to get your music featured on HBO Ballers and even Netflix 13 Reasons Why, among other content? How surreal is that? Its always strange to see a song that has quite specific meaning or ambiance to you, put in a totally different context, but that is also the beauty of creation, once you release something you never know what it may go on to inspire.
With how unique Ellery's voice is and than to be accompanied by the other beautiful voice that is Ebony, I am surprised your music isn't showing up in a lot of other content. I picture LUH having a song in a tv show as the intro in my opinion. How much longer until North American tv/movie productions start taking notice you think? Have you gotten any offers you turned down? We haven’t turned anything down, sure it would be nice to have some high level syncs, make cash flow easier and get the name out to a wider audience, but these things always come out of the blue… We enjoy narrative, atmosphere and an expansive sound in our song writing so it lends well to soundtracks. We are actually working on our first soundtrack for ‘8 days with hopper’ a feature film due in 2021, a really beautiful project that we are very excited to be a part of.
Before we dive into the bright future that is Lost Under Heaven, we gotta go back to the past. Before you (Ellery) joined Ebony for LUH, you started in a band called WU LYF, mindset wise, what was it like being in WU LYF vs LUH? And creatively how different was it? WU was a teenage jam band that got picked up on a wave of hype. I loved the creation of the record and feel it is a very genuine document of untamed youth, but after touring it for 18 months relationships soured and the joy, the fire was gone- trying to write the second record and growing in awareness to the state of the world I fell into a deep depression, I longed for a deeper life and my heart knew I needed to make a change. I broke the band up quite impulsively which I regret for it needlessly hurt those closest to me- but life moves on, wounds heal. creatively all the songs came out of 4 people jamming together for hours and hours- with LUH the process is much more focused, considered, I sit at a piano or with a guitar & write songs working with Ebony to produce them in a cinematic world of atmosphere and tension. I only miss WU LYF in the nostalgic way people miss their teenage years of wild abandon.
With endings come new beginnings.... Right before the end of WU LYFE, did you guys always know Lost Under Heaven was the next project in mind? And has it lived up to the expectations of what you pictured? Lost Under Heaven began when I moved to Amsterdam to live with Ebony, we were not really anticipating working together but it naturally came with me making music whilst she made her visual art in the same small apartment. We then started to have grande visions of what we could create together, we see LUH as a life work, ever evolving, a process thru which we can experiment with ideas and express our ever evolving level of consciousness.
You guys are just absolutely marvelous, I even went as far as calling you my favourite band of the last decade. You guys present not just new ideas, but new sounds and something I have not yet seen. You guys have such a unique vibe its insane. Have you guys ever been approached by any labels or music reps to change anything up significantly? And what do you think of artists doing that to get signed? Fortunately we both have always had a very clear idea of what we should be doing. We are ever motivated to create and have great gratitude that we are able to live this life. To be honest nobody’s ever really challenged us to change, the way in which we work is essentially D.I.Y so we just explore where ever the energy take us. We probably would benefit from some business management, but the blessing of doing everything yourself is you learn and grow at a high pace. As to other artists, each is own their own path and they have to live with themselves so I have no judgment- personally I have never compromised my art to get a wider appeal, or more success, I strive for soulful honesty- not just entertainment.
Little backstory: I was once standing on a beach somewhere in a middle of nowhere, and the beach was a temporary home, something to hide away in but it was only a band-aid of escape. In the mist of the sunset setting and nothing but ocean in the backdrop, your track Loyalty from the album Spiritual Songs for Lovers to Sing came on, and everything made sense in that moment. One of my favourite songs ever, hands down. Talk about what that song means to you guys? How did it come to be? Loyalty is one of my favorites, it was actually the first song Ebony sang on, the first time I really heard her voice- I wrote the cello part years ago, probably when I was a teenager and always had the idea to make an epic street hassle (Lou Reed) kinda record, but could never figure out how, then I came up with this guitar riff and sang along it all started to come together but I had no idea how the chorus should go, so I asked ebony to just play around and those line’s “we are going to sail away…” came out of it- perfect! yeah I love that song, we have never really been able to play it well live (with out a cello player!) so I haven’t heard it for a few years- but you made me want to revisit it now…
While we are on the topic of your first album, what was the song writing process for it vs your second album Love Hates What You Become? Would you say there was a difference creative wise between the two? Spiritual Songs was written in lots of little fragments over a couple of years (2012- 2015) I mostly wrote it on a piano and then straight into Ableton so its a lot more processed production, - Love Hates I wrote whilst we toured the 1st record in 2016- I had started playing guitar for the live band so I wrote nearly all the songs on 6 strings, I finished it up in a week in January 2017 so it was fast, focused- we produced the record with Jon Congleton in 3 weeks recorded and mixed, so it was all very fast- I felt the record to had a raw urgency, to keep us moving, keep the band on the road, but then the label stagnated the release schedule for 18 months and it kinda lost the energy, I am proud of the record- but it was quite a frustrating period, which I am happy to have behind us.
I've always wondered, with your album titles like Love Hates What You Become or Spiritual Songs for Lovers to Sing, where do these ideas for album names come from? The Unified Field. I don’t know man, ideas arrive and you note them down and then months later they have meaning, that’s the way titles, lyrics most of what we do comes to be- I like walking around aimless, letting my mind roam, writing down anything that feels exciting
Speaking of creative, you guys recently left Mute Records to start your own label LUH International. What prompted this big change up? And in a nutshell what can we expect from these big changes? As eluded to earlier, after the release of Love Hates we had become frustrated by the slow and bloated process working within a label system can place on your creativity- We were looking for new way to work in the world with more intimacy and spontaneity, an opportunity had arisen with a de-centralised video platform called Vevue that enabled us to become financially independent for the foreseeable future- so we decided to make LUH.international formalised as an entity- to release our work, not necessarily a record label, I see it more as creative studio that will periodically make short run pressings of our projects- we are currently putting together the First, a book that consolidates our work on the Love Unite Humanity web series release via Vevue.
What advice can you give someone who would want to start up their own record label? Patience, perseverance and maintain a level of success consciousness- law of attraction vibes.
You guys are not just starting your own record label, but developing original content (and music) titled Love Unites Humanity (Episode zero here) and will be featured on the video platform Vevue. In saying all that, what does this project mean for you guys? And how will this take Lost Under Heaven onto the next level? Love Unites Humanity brings together a lot of our thoughts and experiences over the last few years, I see it as a way of articulating our world view, thru artistic expression. It also provides us a free space to experiment, creating work quickly and immediately releasing it with no middlemen, the Vevue platform enables us to directly earn from our work with it token exchange economy.
When can Canada expect to see LUH live in concert? ah man, I have no idea, we’d love to get over to you tho- perhaps some one reading this will want to make it happen.
5 rapid fire questions, give the answer that comes to mind first If you were not called Lost Under Heaven what else would you want to be called? Ebony & Ellery James and their Famous Flames Best venue to play in? The White Hotel, Manchester Favorite current song? ROSALÍA - Juro Que Best underrated artist? So many but my today I say, Kali Malone Favorite song that is your own? Here Our Moment Ends or Black Sun Rising

Flip-Flappers episode 5, first impressions!
Edit: Wait, hol up! Apparently I watched the episodes out of order, and this was episode six! WHOOPS!
Well, that was weird. And sad.
Y’know, Cocona keeps having that recurring dream about the creepy girl in the boat, and every time it happens it intrigues me, but I always forget to make note of it. So, here it is. Dream has been acknowledged. Looking forward to learning more about her past and who that girl is.
Despite my nitpicking the sometimes sloppy execution about how Cocona and Papika’s relationship development has been, I like what they’re doing here. Like, okay, let’s just jump ahead. They’re in sync now. They’re partners, they’re joined at the hip, they’re drift compatible, and they’ve been working as a homoerotic duo for a time now. Like, this was the goal, so let’s just get to it.
Which means we get to spend more time in weird worlds, and ho boy, we have a doozy! Pretty much establishing that Pure Illusion is the collective dream world of the world at large, and this is them delving into the subconscious of Iroha, their artistic upperclassmate friend.
Okay, you know I like unconventional storytelling, you know I like surrealism, and you know I like these deep dives into the human psyche, so I was all over this. And you know what? From a purely objective standpoint, this story shouldn’t feel as important as it does. A friend of theirs feels guilty about not keeping her promise to her mentally devolving aunt because she was a kid at the time who didn’t understand what was going on. That is completely unimportant to the plot at large, but through some really clever narrative devices and excellent direction, it just feels huge. Much like how Cocona and Papika jumped into her subconscious memories, so does the audience jump into her perspective and experience everything from arguing parents to her beloved aunt’s illness from the viewpoint of a child, which makes it feel huge. As such, just this small act of kindness, of them taking time away from their mission to help their friend deal with her guilt suddenly feels like the most important thing in the world. And I love the recurring motif of the nail polish being used to convey that.
Also, I really loved how the narrative refused to explain anything as it went along. Like, you have it all figured out by the end, but you have to piece it together yourself as the story plays out, which just makes it more interesting.
Though seriously, why exactly is Papika’s sense of smell so good.
Also, how exactly does them still going to school with Yayaka work? Are things like super awkward when she and the girls have to have classes together? And what’s up with the Black Lagoon Hansel and Gretel twins that follower her around? Questions, questions.

Key Dates: October 12: Sun-Pluto square The devil is in the details, and yet obsessing over them will make your life a living hell. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, Taurus, so don’t go looking for clues or jumping to hasty conclusions unless you WANT to court trouble.

Positive Celebrity Exclusive: Duo Transcend talks about AGT, charity and more!
Positive Celebrity Exclusive: Duo Transcend talks about AGT, charity and more!
Transcend Duo has blown those near and far away with their intense performances on America’s Got Talent. And their most recent performance has everyone on edge, following a stunt mishap. But persistence is key and that’s exactly what Duo Transcend has give rise to in their AGT acts.
America’s Got Talent has brought the worlds best acts into one competition. Out of all the acts, Duo Transcend is one to remember. Both Mary Ellen Wolfe and Tyce Nielsen make “Duo Transcend.” The pair are extremely in sync and they work well together while performing.
Tyce and Mary met when they were performing as high divers in a cliff diving show. They got married and decided it was important they combine their talents and perform together. The decision came when they both realized, performing separately would mean less time spent together.
Taking into account how amazing they do, we’re glad they chose that path for their career.
Both Tyce and Mary love Duo Trapeze and they even took on Duo Roller Skating, which is incredible.
They have worked on a number of shows including Circus Flic Flac, Cirque De La Mer, The Great American Variety Show, and the one most are familiar with, Cirque Du Soleil.
The talented couple are both from Salt Lake City, Utah and love spending time with their son Jaxx when they are not performing.
We had a moment to catch up with Transcend Duo and learned what brought them on their journey to America’s Got Talent.
“We’ve been working professionally for 7-years and we are so grateful to make a living doing what we love. But, we are on the road touring a lot and would love the opportunity to work in Vegas full time so that we can have a more convenient family life. There are so many talented Cirque performers who want to be in Vegas so it can be hard to break into that market. We are hoping that AGT will hope us get there.”
They shared insight on how getting married had a great impact on their decision to work together because they didn’t want to spend time apart.
“We were working separately as performers and when we got married we realized that we would probably have to spend a lot of time apart working in different shows and we didn’t want that to happen. We decided to put an act together and only take jobs where we worked on the same show. Mary had a bad foot injury from a diving accident so we figured learning something in the air would be the best thing for us to do”
Duo Transcend shared how they’ve only performed with fire once and it’s because they wanted to bring it up a notch.
“We have only performed with fire once, on America’s Got Talent. We wanted to step things up and add more danger.”
That’s incredible (I used to have two friends who worked small shows in Las Vegas and they would always practice juggling with fire. They honestly gave us a free show about 3-times a week).
They opened up about the value of being genuine.
“We’ve learned that people really appreciate people who are “real” we’ve gained a lot more followers on social media and we decided to not try and put on an act for how we are in our normal life. We’ve been posting more videos of us doing our daily routine and we don’t edit anything out. If Tyce farts on camera we leave it in because that’s who we are. We want to be real and people have let us know they love seeing that side of us.”
That’s really what it’s all about though, being true to yourself and when you’re living your dream, that’s when you know there’s a lot of passion in what you do.
During the show, there was a mishap and it didn’t go completely as planned. But their passion, and persistence shines bright, and the judges know it.
Howie told them both how amazingly persistent they are after he comforted them about Mary being dropped near the end of their act. He was in shock after Mary hit the floor but Mary stood right back up proudly and wanted to attempt the act again.
“‘You almost got hurt very badly and your first thought was ‘let me do that again,’ and only America’s Got Talent does that happen!’
Duo Transcend
We wanted to know how it felt to hear those words come from Howie. Especially after their considerably painful fall. Their persistence and passion pushed them through judge-cuts.
Just as they deserved because they truly have worked years for this opportunity.
“We’ve worked so hard to pursue our dream, and it hasn’t always been easy. Most days we don’t feel like going to the gym and training. Now we think back to all those days that we didn’t want to go train but did anyway and I see how that hard work is paying off and it drives us to work even harder.”
After the fall we wanted to show the judges that we weren’t willing to give up and it felt amazing when the judges gave us positive feedback even though our routine wasn’t perfect.”
You don’t have to be perfect, persistence is everything, you learn so much from mistakes and your passions become stronger.
There are so many people that want to audition for the next season of America’s Got Talent. And they don’t know what to expect or how to feel.
Duo Transcend shared their advice and what they’ve learned about the process and what you should do.
“You need to be ready to take chances and have the confidence to put yourself out there to be judged by millions of people. Some people will love you and some won’t. Focus on the positive and not any of the negative and realize what is most important in your life. After we had the fall we had so many people asking if we were upset that it happened. The answer is of course, but we won’t dwell on it, we have to move forward and be happy with what really matters, which is that we have each other and our family is safe. Be happy with what you have while still pursuing your dreams, never look back.”
That’s the truth, no doubt. It’s great advice, so, if you’re thinking of auditioning for AGT, be sure to have confidence in yourself and don’t worry about those who aren’t impressed. Just be proud of who you are and proudly share it with the rest of the world.
When it comes to their favorite types of trapeze acts to perform, they both enjoy being “dynamic.” That constant change truly develops with every performance.
“(Static, swing, etc). We love dynamic static trapeze”
Duo Transcend always brings it up a notch. We asked what they would love to master in their future acts.
“We would love to incorporate water in our act”
When you’re performing on AGT it can be fun to see yourself on TV for the first time. We asked Duo Transcend how it felt the first time the episode aired.
“We were in Europe working when our first episode aired so it was 4 am our time. When we watched it. The day our audition filmed was a very emotional one for us because we had been traveling non stop that month and had hardly seen our son and we were tired. We questioned even if we should audition but when we saw our episode and got so many messages from people saying things like we inspired them we were so happy we decided to take the chance and go for it.”
That’s great they were able to “take the chance and go for it.” They’ve done fantastic. And in order to continue doing well, you have to train and book shows. They’ve been keeping busy and hardly had time to celebrate.
“haha, we had to perform that day so we didn’t do a ton of celebrating but we were happy…”
Duo Transcend loves charity. Especially because Tyce has an eye disease called keratoconus. She opened up about the disease.
“Tyce has an eye disease called keratoconus which causes his corneas to slowly deteriorate. Luckily we have modern medicine and access to a doctor who can give Tyce the surgery he needs to prevent him from eventually go blind. So many people in the world with eye conditions don’t have access to good doctors or the finances to get the help they need. There is a charity called the Seva Foundation. They focus on helping people get the care they need to prevent them from going blind, especially women and children.”
What is keratoconus?
After reading about keratoconus, it’s become quite clear how amazing their performances have been, considering the fact that Tyce is legally blind in his right eye due to this progressive eye disease.
“Keratoconus (KC) is a disorder of the eye which results in progressive thinning of the cornea. This may result in blurry vision, double vision, nearsightedness, astigmatism, and light sensitivity. Usually both eyes are affected. In more severe cases a scarring or a circle may be seen within the cornea.”
Tyce and Mary are amazing, they have such great coordination and emotion when they work together. They are super impressive and we can’t wait to see what else they bring out on America’s Got Talent.
