ok so my ACTUAL thought process for picking perdita's name was me attempting to find a name with a relevant meaning that also reasonably sounded like a name (and maybe less modern sounding than carson). i had no ideas which means i end up plugging words into google translate and just poking around languages until something sticks. this is like my latch resort for name picking when i REALLY dont know what to do. so long story short perdita is latin for lost and when that came up i was like. oh nice that's a name i know exists. and apparently perdita is also the name of a Shakespeare character so thats cool

Kym Marsh, 48, Defends New Romance Against Critics

That One Time The Feature Presentation Logo Was NAVY

A little while ago, I looked at some of the small details that began appearing on American Disney VHS tapes released in the year 1992...

One of those things was the iconic cursive Feature Presentation logo that wrote itself across the screen against a lilac blue background, a bumper ingrained in the brains of people my age...

The very bumper that debuted on second pressings of the 101 DALMATIANS VHS. 101 DALMATIANS hit stores on April 10, 1992. It's very possible both the 1st pressings that have no previews whatsoever and the second pressings that DO have them were on the racks the same day. My copies that have the previews and this bumper were printed as early as February, so it's possible!

As a long-time collector and enthusiast of this stuff, someone who is really into the minutiae and nuts-n-bolts of these things... I've always had a burning question about this:

That's right, there exists a navy blue version of the logo. And the text curiously lacks a drop-shadow...

This only appears on one VHS as far as I know, and that's the 1992 release of THE RESCUERS. That came out in mid-September, a good five months after DALMATIANS.

That's the third-ever appearance of this bumper, whichever color, period. DALMATIANS, the July 1992 release of THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE, and then this. Other VHS releases from that same year and 1993, such as SO DEAR TO MY HEART, use a much different Feature Presentation bumper. Or sometimes, a screen saying "Feature Program".

Around 90% of the time, this bumper was reserved for the VHS releases of animated movies. It had appeared on the Masterpiece editions of hybrids like MARY POPPINS and BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS, depending on the pressings. A few live-actions, such as THE SANTA CLAUSE, GORDY, and - unusually - a Disney Channel HEIDI miniseries, had it on their respective VHS releases as well...

So yeah, THE RESCUERS was the third tape to have this logo... And it was in navy blue with no drop-shadows for some reason...

The next tape to use the logo was BEAUTY AND THE BEAST a month later. It was back to the lilac color scheme. PINOCCHIO in March 1993 as well, and ALADDIN months later. Etc. You get the idea. Navy Feature Presentation was never seen again.

I wonder why it ended up on the RESCUERS tape, and what it is.

Much like the Sorcerer Mickey Walt Disney Classics logo having 3 1/2 variants, it appears that - visually - the Feature Presentation logo from 1992 has at least two. Audio-wise, there are more, such as the FP logo with Beau Weaver's voice-over instead of Mark Elliott's.

My quasi-educated guess would be this... When they were creating this bumper, they had tried out of multiple color schemes. Lilac blue, navy gradient where the top and bottom are black, maybe some other colors... Before they settled on lilac blue... And then the navy gradient was accidentally used on the RESCUERS VHS.

Not dissimilar to the RESCUERS LaserDisc using the gradient Classics logo that Walt Disney Home Video didn't really use much after its appearance on the 1988 CINDERELLA VHS. (Of course, the tape that debuted the whole logo in the first place.) Ditto those '92 pressings of ROBIN HOOD using it as well. Quebec really seemed to like that gradient variant, for half of the Classics releases over there used it... Or the Classics logo in general - whichever variant - showing up well after it was retired, on the 1996 Masterpiece VHS of POCAHONTAS (early copies, that error was corrected *quickly*) and the 2003 UK (!) VHS of PINOCCHIO.

Anyways... Yeah, one of those unsolved Disney VHS mysteries. Stuff that happened in the editing room that was likely never given much thought, if any... And weird-ass people like me wondering to this day why [x] tape uses [x] version of [x] logo...

Dizzy and Dee Dee- Pups from Delilah’s second litter! It’s unknown which pup has Doug as a father or which pup has Dandy Dot as a father

Desmond- Adopted pup from the pound. She/her. Desmond makes little accessories for everyone and gives people modified collars too! 

Delphie- Adopted pup from the streets. Delphie had badly infected eyes that needed to be removed, they were found, sent to the hospital Delilah works at and she instantly took Delphie back home once they were healthy. Delphie uses they/them pronouns and just is part of the flurry of spots that plays games and enjoys going to the park. Delphie’s a good pup to play catch with!

Dafydd- Pup from Delilah and Dandy’s first litter. Dafydd helps with gardening! She’s the reason the house isn’t riddled with holes from Diesel’s digging. Uses she/they pronouns

Dinlo- Adopted pup and a littermate of Da Vinci! He/him. Dinlo helps makes everyone’s beds, a job that is much thanked in the household

Donburi- Adopted pup from the pound (He’s based off the pup that got snatched in “The De Vil Wears Puppies”) He/they. Donburi is a quiet pup that’s part of the flurry of spots. A selective mute that just enjoys hearing the chaos. 

Declan- Adopted pup from the pound. Donburi’s littermate. He/him. Declan is a quiet pup but he at least talks, is part of the flurry of spots and mostly sticks with his sibling

Diana- Adopted pup from the hoarder house. She/her. Diana is one of the youngest pups and she mostly sticks by her older siblings from the same house, mostly Doris

Ditto- Adopted pup from the Hoarder house. He/him. The poor conditions made Ditto’s fur grey-ish and gave him breathing problems. He spends a lot of time outside when it’s clear for him, is one of the pups under Deepak’s “TLC” list to keep calm with his mediation.

Cruella's a classic sociopath. Little patience or impulse control. In the original book she and her husband wanted to start a fur farm and she plans to make the coat reversible to hide it. In the actual films, well she probably doesn't need all those puppies, but the title stuck. But like I said she's a sociopath. in the 90's film, she stole *all* the puppies because she was that impatient. Ditto for the sequel where she wants the coat even though she's only out on parole.

oh absolutely, I believe that to a tee that shes a sociopath! the fur farm sounds smarter as its basically a puppy mill with an extra step...although if she were to actually do it, having a bunch of grown Dalmatians to pump out puppy's for the furs would basically make that work.

i doubt she get far tho, as whos in the market for a Dalmatian fur besides herself....or maybe the REALLLY rich who would hoard the fashions

Heyo! Just wanted to put up my speculations on the 101 Dalmatian Street lore. I have no group yet to share these with so Imma just gonna scream it out into the void here and see who hears me!

One thing we know so far about 101DS lore is that Doug and Delilah are actually previously married or with one/other partners. Dolly isn’t Delilah’s biological daughter and ditto for Dylan with Doug. Fair enough, people (Erh dogs...) remarry. No big deal.

Its just were never sure whos related to who outside those four. Not that it makes them less family, just that this idea peeked my interest. For starers a  theory is that Dolly and Dylan are the only ones from previous relationship, Doug and Delilah met up after those two and then had the rest of their puppies, but I don’t think thats true. Mostly due to one line.

Dawkins calls Doug by his first name. Given that he is the boy genius type character and its not usual to make a joke about them calling their parents by their first name, I just don’t that thats what happening. Far as I can tell, he refers to Delilah as mom. Which make me think Doug isn’t his biological father (Though he clearly likes him. Dawkins just gets tired of his shenanigans.)

Anyone bellow Dawkins is fair game for now though. Its hard because some of the puppies have English accents and some american. Which you think would make things easier, until you remember Dylan has no accent and he was born in England soooo... yeah.

HOWEVER, as a last note. There is ONE puppy about the same age as Dawkins, or even a little older who we can figure out. That would be Dante as I argue that he is actually one of Dougs kids. For a few reasons, one being Doug’s lower half and back looks just like Dante.

Then finally, something I just noticed in the episode Flea-Mageddon (Ep 9b-Season1) Dante and Doug both have the same muzzle scrunch. 

Other than that I think its safe to assume Dorothy is Doug and Delilah’s, but not sure where else the lines draws. Heck some of the puppies could be fosters or even adopted...

So thats as far as I’ve gotten for Biological linage. Dante and Dolly are full siblings and Dylan and Dawkins are full siblings. Feel free to shoot me some ideas of your own and feel free to use this 2.

Did somebody say Pokémon AU??

I honestly have no clue if this has been done or not. But here' what I'd think a Pokémon AU would look like complete with Pokémon teams.

So for the most part everything follows the show with the added bonus of Pokémon being a thing. The Magnus Institute exists to investigate and catalogue paranormal and supernatural experiences that fall outside the range of regular Pokémon shenanigans. So in the beginning, Jon is an even more cynical ass that chalks everything up to being just typical ghost Pokémon messing with people. But there are greater forces at work that fall outside of even Arceus's range of understanding. And there is more to fear than just Pokémon lurking in the shadows.

Jon: He wasn't like most kids with grand dreams of being a Pokémon master. He was and still is much more content reading a book than training Pokémon. All the ones in his team caught him more than the other way around which is really just par for the course for Jon really. He also can’t be bothered to name any of them.

Absol: It just started following him after the brush with the Leitner and just refused to leave. It tries to warn Jon about bad situations but the man has zero self-preservation instincts. Essentially acts like a beleaguered mom looking after her self destructive toddler.

Rotom: It really just kinda came with the tape recorder.

Unknown: Jon didn't intentionally catch it. The unknown just live in the Archives and made themselves at home in his office until one finally just tapped into a pokeball conveniently left on his desk. It likes helping him find real statements in the Archives and tries to work with its brethren and Absol to warn Jon about incoming dangers. He’s just too buried in statements to see ominous warnings literally floating above his head.

Buneary: It was the first and only Pokemon he ever purposefully caught. It hated him when he caught it and it still hates his guts now but they both refuse to let the other go out of spite. Tim gets a kick about teasing him about it.

Purugly: His first pokemon given to him when his grandma's purugly had kittens. It spends all its time skulking around the archives just doing cat things.

Chandelure: He caught it in the woods as a litwik as a kid and used it as a reading light. He doesn't believe in the stories surrounding them stealing your life force but it definitely does and he’s just too hyped on caffeine to notice.

Martin: I imagine Martin as the breeder type who loves to nurture Pokémon from eggs and just overly spoil his entire team. He of course names all his pokemon after Romantic poets.

Joltik:  Used to belong to Jon before he gave it away after the Leitner incident. He really just kinda threw the ball as far as he could and it hit Martin upside the head. Jon doesn't realize that Martin was that kid or that that Joltik was his and it makes both of them very sad. The only pokemon he hasn’t named since he doesn’t know what Jon named it and it didn’t feel right to change it.

Araquanid: He named it Byron after Lord Byron. Pokémon who, depending on who you ask, either drowns unsuspecting Pokémon or cares for them. Fits Martin to a T if you ask me and he would take pity on a poor, misunderstood spider.

Sylveon: He named it Felicia after Felicia Hemans. He raised it from an egg he found in the backyard. It was also his first Pokemon period that he hid in his room because his mom didn't want any Pokémon in the house. When she did find it she begrudgingly allowed it. She always seemed to dote on it more than she ever did Martin himself...

Klefki: Named it Will after William Wordsworth. This little guy is half the reason Martin is able to get into half the places he does.

Chansey: Named Keats. Another Pokemon raised from an egg, it is just as doting as Martin is to the others in the archives. It is also consequently the most powerful member on his team.

Zorua: Named Percy after Percy Shelley. He initially thought he was catching a volpix when he caught it. He bonded with it over having to hide who he truly is too. It is the overprotective guard dog he deserves that no one realizes how dangerous it truly is.

Tim: his team is comprised of beautiful Pokémon that can absolutely kick anyone's ass at a moments notice. They are all as salty as they are beautiful. He names his pokemon after famous actors and actresses.

Roserade: Named Angelina after Angelina Jolie, it was the first Pokemon he ever caught, the two are a dazzling duo charming anyone that crosses their path.

Yamask: It showed up and started hanging around him after his brother was taken by the Stranger. After that, he knew without a shadow of a doubt his brother was dead. He dotes on it constantly because of it despite how much it creeps others out. He, of course, named it Danny.

Milotic: Named Kiera after Kiera Knightly, he evolved it from a feebas he hatched from an egg. He still treats it like his baby.

Lopunny: It was his first Pokémon. His brother gave it to him as a gift and he took it as a challenge to get it to like him enough to evolve. He named it Audrey after Audrey Hepburn.

Liepard: Its stealthy nature is extremely helpful when scouting locations and doing research for the institute. It also hates Jon as much as Tim does. He named it Jackman after Hugh Jackman.

Diancie: He inherited it from his bro after his passing. Danny found it while exploring an old cave and used to travel everywhere with him. It and Danny are still inseparable. Its name is Mila after Mila Kunis.

Basira: Her team is as practical as she is. They are all extremely powerful and could easily take down the entire league if she wanted to. She just doesn’t want to. Her no-nonsense attitude means she just doesn’t see the point in naming any of her pokemon.

Arcanine: What's a cop without their traditional canine companion? Her arcanine fell in love with Daisy's before they even had a clue they were made for each other and set them up in a very 101 Dalmatian style.

Serperior: Her first pokemon given to her from the local pokemon professor. They share the same unimpressed icy stare.

Mightyena: They are truly cut from the same cloth and is honestly more of her partner than her official partner.

Alolan Ninetails: Her strongest Pokémon and her fiercest protector. It loves playing mind games with people.

Umbreon (evolved during the Raynor incident. It seems especially keen on picking up on paranormal activities making it very useful to have on hand)

Mewtwo (cause if anyone has a legendary Pokémon, it's Basira. She caught it during one of the section cases she took and just didn't tell anyone)

Daisy: She is the “gotta collect them all” type of pokemon hunter. She catches any new pokemon she comes across and sends them to the local professor cause she has to fill that pokedex.

Arcanine: Second verse same as the first with this one of being a staple of being a police officer. It will look for any excuse to burn someone. The only person it likes besides Daisy is Basira and her Arcanine.

Houndoom: Her first pokemon she got as a houndour. She terrorized the neighborhood kids with it and is essential for her hunting down both new pokemon and perps. 

Treevant: She caught it as a phantump after it showed up as she was looking into a cold case. At least if she never was able to file an official report, she at least knew how the case ended.

Sawsbuck: She caught it as a deerling and was the first pokemon she ever caught. What kinda hunter hasn’t caught a deer right?

Espurr: She got it after the whole coffin incident. She just kinda cam across it by chance and felt a kinship with it about having to restrain a flood of overwhelming power it holds.

Lyanroc Midnight form: It is as vicious as she is when in full Hunt mode. 

Melanie: She is the one type kinda trainer and it’s, of course, ghost types. She is determined to prove the paranormal exists outside of ghost type pokemon.

Gengar: It was the Pokémon that started her fascination with ghosts and the first Pokémon she ever had.

Honedge: She found it when looking into that ghost train and couldn’t not catch it. When she’s threatening to stab someone, she uses honedge to do so.

Sableye: Found in an abandoned, haunted mine shaft.

Banette: Cause what kinda ghost hunter doesn’t have a haunted doll?

Gourgeist: She caught it as a pumpkaboo on her very first ghost hunting trip.

Spiritomb: Caught it poking around the wrong place at the wrong time she came across it and had to catch it cause if anyone would have a spiritomb, it would be her. It’s just as bloodthirsty as she is.

Sasha: Do I mean this team was made by Sasha or Not-Sasha? The answer is yes.

Mimikyu: The first pokemon she ever caught. Wait... wasn’t it supposed to be a pikachu?

Ditto: This one just speaks for itself.

Baynette: After she caught it she started reading up on the stories and pores surrounding certain Pokémon that put her on the path of working at the institute.

Gothitelle: It started crying nearly immediately after Sasha started working for the Institute but didn't buy into the wives tale about them predicting their trainer's deaths. It mysteriously disappeared after the Prentis incident.

Claydol: She found it wandering around artifact storage and felt bad for it.

Parasect: Her first pokemon. She really just found it as a paras in her parents' backyard as a kid and begged them to let her keep it. It evolved during the Prentis incident while trying to help her fend off the worms.

if we’re pulling disney up for trademarking stuff......I would like to point out that Pocahontas was a real person, Mulan is based off an ancient Chinese ballad, Robin Hood and The Sword in the Stone come from English legends, Pinocchio and The 101 Dalmatians were adapted from children’s books, (ditto The Jungle Book), almost all the other princesses come from folktales from different cultures. My point is that over the years, Disney has had very few original ideas and they can’t trademark shit.

- tends to be more a follower listening to the Top Dog

- can perfectly mimic other voices in his family and that's how he tends to talk the most. In fact, nobody in his family's have ever think they've heard his own natural voice.

- when he gets older and explores more his personality, he becomes a ventriloquist

Daffydd

- enjoys watching older cartoons

- since he's young he still doesn't have much of a personality

- is a fraternal twin to Dingo

- the two tends to play wrestle together

- one of the younger pups

- more or less creep other pups out with talking at the same time. Dante has tried multiple times to dress him up like the twins from The Shining

Dumpling

- one of the younger pups, not quite Dorothy's age, but still pretty young

- love pigs, and pig squeaky toys

- still doesn't have too much of a personality, but is very curious in what her other siblings are up to
