For the endocannabinoid system, this means it helps regulate the immune system, the digestive system, and the nervous system and brain. Binding to CB2 receptors, CBG has anti-inflammatory effects through the immune system. In a study against colon cancer in mice, CBG was documented to block cancer cell growth receptors, causing the cancer to recede in growth. 🤔 When CBG binds to CB1 receptors, specifically in the eyes, it demonstrates powerful vasodilation abilities. This has researchers to believe it might be a good aid for glaucoma as it can lower intraocular pressure. 👁 Overall for the brain, CBG shows neuroprotective features like CBD and THC do. The three phytocannabinoids also share analgesic, antidepressant, and immunoregulatory abilities. 👀 However, what sets CBG apart in the brain is from a 2015 study with mice suffering from Huntington’s Disease. An aggressive neurodegenerative genetic disorder with death usually occurring in the 40’s or 50’s, it was able to be held back through CBG activity in the endocannabinoid system. Regulation of inflammatory response, an increase in antioxidant protection, and neural protection against toxicity from Huntington’s Disease were all observed. This led scientists to believe CBG, especially with other phytocannabinoids thanks to them all working together, may be a promising aid with Huntington’s Disease. #LearnSomething #HealthyKnowledge via @districthemp - Journey Through the Cannabinoids: THC 👩‍🏫⁣ ⁣ 📚THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, was the first phytocannabinoid discovered in 1964 -- and thanks to its discovery, scientists then found anandamide, the first endocannabinoid we found. THC is actually very similar to anandamide, aka the “bliss” molecule, in structure and function. Both cannabinoids attach directly to CB1 receptors in the brain, which is why both can have psychoactive properties. Anandamide actually gets us “high” as well; you just don’t know that it’s anandamide! “Runner’s high” is one of the most well known examples of “natural highs”, and you can thank anandamide for it. THC, on the other hand, is a bit more potent than anandamide, which is why it gets such a bad rep. Of course, for some people looking to fix their endocannabinoid deficiency, getting high is a drawback instead of a bonus. But that doesn’t mean absolutely no THC! THC naturally has the same analgesic and anti-inflammatory (among others) properties that anandamide has, so don’t be quick to rule it out. CBD is a great buddy for THC, as it can amplify the relieving signals THC sends out from CB1 receptors while diminishing THC’s psychoactive properties.
