[Spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen Law and Order season 18]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Currently obsessing over Rafael Barba from Law and Order SVU, and not only is he the sassiest, sexiest, and best-dressed lawyer I have ever seen, but he is also a perfect gentleman?????
Specifically talking about Season 18 episode 4, when he says "We are making no comments" to reporters until they say that paying for sex makes it okay to be rough and he turns around and goes "Except about that" and then goes on to make a statement that no always means no, AND then later when the bipolar victim takes her shirt off in a manic episode, he immediately takes off his suitcoat and covers her until they are able to clear the courtroom.
(And his three-piece suits are a conversation for a whole other post. No man should look that good. 🥵)
Basically, Rafael Barba is now my ideal man, and I will cry myself to sleep that he is just a character

I'm here writing and creating terminology and lore for Project Zero. I don't know why, but I'm absolutely in love with the concept of the hero districts; and some other tidbits I'll be sharing once I finish completing the entire google doc I'm working on.
I might consider opening a google form and leaving applications open for potential collaborators, maybe even mods later down the line if I'm feeling bold enough. I am ridiculously excited for this project, I have to be honest-
A lot is coming, so if anyone wants to be tagged when that comes out, leave a comment or reblog this!

the idea of getting a peaky blinders themed tattoo is so hilarious to me i would not do that, but i'm imagining a guy rn getting that silly undercut and then tattooing 'by order of the peaky blinders' on one of the shaved sides and how big of a beeline i'd make around him, etc

((Incoming Fictive nonsense))
I honestly think it's great that people are going back through and watching all the WKM lore breakdown streams, because they actually shed light on a lot of minor details that could give a better trajectory of where the story as a whole could be going.
But on the other hand I'm kind of just, lurking in the eaves laughing my ass off, because every time I'm mentioned in a post poker night state, the assumption is that either my existence is some strange group delusion, or I'm being impersonationated, but no-
Where I'm from, I specifically came back to cause problems on purpose, there's a reason Dark thinks I'm the most annoying bitch in existence.
I'm God's least favorite cryptid and the urge to just start shitposting about how I've made everyone's existence marginally more unbearable by haunting the narrative is strong.
I'm not standing by Actor because I'm scared of what will happen if I don't follow him, he's scared of what I'll do if I'm left unsupervised.

TV characters and their mentors
I have realized as I watch TV and find myself liking a character I also start considering who their mentor in @lorata's THG District Two system would be, almost as a personality test. I've put too much thought into it to not publish it somewhere. So, here is a very niche character analysis. TV characters and their District Two mentors. If you are a fan of these shows and have no idea what I'm talking about because you don't read Lorata, do it now. I haven't read the Hunger Games since middle school but I return to Lorata's District Two every few months.
The Mentalist:
Patrick Jane: Callista. The way this fits is actually one of the reasons I decided to actually write a post. He considers himself immune to the rules. He hates authority. He is charming and manipulative, with only fleeting indications he has a conscience. A chaos agent. Exactly what Callista looks for. He would absolutely break up the career alliance early because he decides he doesn't want to kill the youngest tributes if he doesn't have to for his survival and he would rather kill his "allies." It gets Callista in hot water with the other alliance mentors but she is just like "he's excellent."
Teresa Lisbon: Brutus. Lisbon is actually a lot like what Petra would probably become in twenty years. Still hot-headed, still stubborn and rules-focused, still wanting respect at all costs... but a little more chill about it. She's a pretty easy choice for Brutus because she gets things done and doesn't resort to the flashy nonsense of certain Calli tributes. Speaking of... Jane and Lisbon kind of work as an inversion of the classic "back-to-back Victors are a wild girl and chill boy" and would probably hate each other at first before slowly becoming closer as time goes on.
SVU (this is a weird case because I've published a THG AU, but lets just say all of them are Two in this case):
Alex Cabot: This is the hardest of all of them for me, but I'm going to say Devon. She fits the dreamer archetype of always wanting to make things better for everyone (even with the weird season 18 twist SVU pulled, Alex is still fighting for what she perceives as justice). That twist however does rule her out for most of Brutus' branch because it's coloring too far outside the lines. She's very charming and witty, but is focused on trying to do right in the world, rather than the more self-focused goals of Callista or Misha (my runner up for this character).
Olivia Benson: Brutus. Pretty much for the same reasons as Lisbon. She is very closely tied with the rules; even when she disagrees with them, she never really thinks about leaving. She is District Two in the AU I published, so I'm to promote myself and say for more insight into how she views the Games as a Career, go read that.
Rafael Barba: Lyme. The essence of a Lyme tribute. Abusive childhood, attachment issues, using flash to cover for insecurities, depression, and ambition. Has a very tough time in early recovery because he has difficulty squaring the horrors of the Games with his motivation for volunteering---a Claudius-esque (though less intense) desire for family and acceptance.
Sonny Carisi: Tough to decide between Devon and Emory but I'm going to go with Emory. He bakes for everyone. He tries to be a good person even the face of horrors. He has no real desire to do violence to people except when under massive amounts of pressure. He didn't even necessarily need to be volunteering, he just did his best, tried to make friends, and figured they'd tell him to stop when he failed.
Bones (this is another interesting case because I have written a THG AU but have not posted because of how much it uses Lorata's characters in the absence of mentor characters in Bones, and in the AU Temperance is from District Nine, but they will both be Two in this case):
Temperance Brennan: Artemisia. She isn't really sorry about anything from Career training, viewing the Program as the only rational choice given the Capitol's governmental system. She often insults other candidates on accident, because she is the best according to the rankings so why do they take offense when she points it out? She avoids serious injury because she really is the best. It cracks Misha up just reading the file. After it becomes clear in recovery that many of her nightmares come from the foster family that she was sent to after he parents and brother abandoned her, Misha tracks them down to make sure they...understand her displeasure.
Seeley Booth: Emory. He is Two in the AU I'm writing so I've thought this through at length. In the show, he is very pre-occupied with being a good person despite having killed people, and Emory is described as the most decent of the Victors. I've thought of an argument where as Lyme is to Claudius, so Emory would be to Booth growing up in District Two. He also has a habit of pushing all his emotions down because he views them as unimportant, something Emory is shown to have a very good way of countering as a mentor. Emory and Misha meet up to talk about how their Victors are clearly infatuated with each other, Emory dismisses it because Misha had a crush on her, but Misha is like "no this is different." They wager a batch of cookies (Misha's would be baked by Devon). Misha accepts her cookies at Seeley and Temperance's wedding.
ER:
Kerry Weaver: Lyme. A lot of the characters I like have similar vibes, so the explanation for this one is kind of similar to Rafael. She has a harsh persona that is used as a cover for someone struggling with abandonment issues and wanting to belong. As a District Two candidate, she likely would be a lot like Petra (quick to anger, sensitive to being disrespected or not taken seriously), but with less regard for duty and more personal investment. She cares about the people of her district, but she wants to win for herself and the family she would be promised. I've almost written an essay on Kerry and how she behaves and her mental health while she thinks she has a shot at fitting in to ER's found family, and how it declines after she realizes that they will never accept her around season 7 and 8. She really, really wants a family, and Lyme is drawn to those types of tributes.

the problem with playing D&D is you have ships 'n' blorbos that only 4 other people know about
#still thinkin' about that motherfucker Cormac from the Thieves Guild#and how he lives rent free in Ariadne's brain#and therefore my brain#and how i have to deal with the fact that she wouldn't think about#that as much as she's plagued with conflicting feelings about this motherfucker#i honestly don't think that there's much reason that she would've made as much of an impact on him as he has on her#and it's driving me insane#like he got under her skin instantly because the first time they met she had just used her inspiration point only to roll two nat 1s#trying to get a crowd to disperse before things got rough#and this motherfucker sweeps in and does what she couldn't while also kind of shitting on the temple#which she couldn't even really argue because he wasn't really wrong but also this is the thing that makes up her identity#and she was fuckin' pissed#i mean we did also get sent to make a deal with him to keep the city chill while rise of the zombies was dealt with in the high district#so she#the temple's Brand Newest Paladin in full fuckin' armor gets sent into the den of the Thieves Guild#to talk with the guy who's been pretty openly (and frankly fairly) dunking on said temple#and we come out of it having to do a favor for him to get his help#and as much as she'd love to cover it with 'well we're really doing it because the prince wants us to and it's for the good of the city'#the fact that at the end of the day they were doing something on this motherfucker's orders was such a bur under her saddle#i think he got the party drinks while we were talking with him but ariadne didn't touch hers#because A) she's pretty sure someone would've spit in it and B) fuck u cormac fuck ur hospitality and fuck u#ANYWAY#all this happened over a year ago irl (not sure how long in-game) and YET#there's also the problem that our sessions have been shorter and more sporadic#which gives me more time between sessions to obsess over stupid shit#like a NPC who we haven't seen in a fuckin' year

i — gemma johnson, victor of the sixth annual hunger games
Her mother doesn’t expect to ever see her again, and maybe that’s what spurred her to win. Anyone could tell from the recordings alone. Their half-braindead Capitol-worshiping mayor was struck silent by the anguished screams of Ardene Johnson. She saw some shocked reactions from people in the Capitol who watched her Reaping later. During the 25th, there was a rewatch of all the previous Victors, and even a few in the studio audience known for their nonchalance at the worst cruelties, were almost shell-shocked for a moment by the sound of the shrill shrieks of a grief-stricken mother.

(If she ever gets patrons who tend to make frequent 'appearances' on the news, how often does she recognize them, and how awkward are those interactions? Does she ever report them to the GCPD or feel tempted to do so?)
send me questions you have about my character!
Tumblr media
You'd think a waitress in a demanding job would at least have a somewhat decent memory when it comes to recognizing faces but honestly? Khare has a horrible memory and isn't likely to start remembering faces unless they are REALLY distinct (or have visited enough times for their appearance to register in her brain). Seeing the Joker himself strolling in and ordering up some pancakes is the most you can expect for her to acknowledge there's a serious fucking situation on hand but after that? Forget it, she's not likely to make the connection.
However, this is Gotham so chances are that at least somebody's going to rock up at the diner in their costume. Khare may be so preoccupied about getting their order right that... you know, it's going to take a minute or two to catch on that something's not right about their appearance, but she can't quite put a finger on it. Alexa, play the Jeopardy! Think Music! It's probably more awkward for the patron visiting that everything is so calm - The waitress isn't screaming bloody murder or jamming the silent call button beneath the counter to alarm the police that trouble is there, she's just smiling and doing her best to remember their order, just as they want it but on the off chance she does recognize somebody... she really, really doesn't want to call the GCPD and cause a scene, because really, nothing's happened.... yet, and the thought of police taking her statement and asking awkward questions is a far more frightening prospect than the Mad Hatter asking for a pot of tea, because... you know, she's an illegal immigrant at this point, and if she calls the police, who's to say she's not joining them in jail after her shift ends? Having a bad memory makes life difficult but in Khare's case, it might have saved more than a few potentially dangerous situations from blowing up as a hungry rogue gets a tasty meal without any screaming or overhearing any hushed calls begging the GCPD to arrive, because even criminals need to eat and boy, do most people feel a lot better after getting a proper meal inside them!

With their rations of trail mix and their full canteens, the four of them had managed to carve out some sort of impermanent safety. It was enough for now, for tonight. One day, one hour, one moment at a time. They'd settled into the Captain's Quarters, and night had fallen over the arena, the sound of screaming long since tapered out. Bram was chewing a cashew, chatting idly with Mercuria when the noise happened. The anthem of Panem, blaring all around them, as if coming from the air itself. She froze, looking up. Looking around. They scrambled from their places, lopsided up to the main deck of the ship, where the sky was aglow. The display of fallen tributes was just about to debut, the day's deaths on parade in a spectacular review.
It was warm and humid, and Bram sat down on a sturdy section of plank, cradling her canteen. "How many do you think are dead?" she asked, to no one in particular, feeling guilty that she hoped the bodycount was high. She craned her neck, face turning upward as the first tribute illuminated the sky. District Three: Mo Therboard.
