A month or two ago, I finally succeeded in using the Disting mk4's I-J algorithm, "Audio Playback." I was so excited about getting the recording of an overloaded washing machine ratting items in my apartment playing that I have yet to actually use its features other than play back an audio file.

In the video above, the rattling noise is run through a phaser effect on the FX Aid XL, as well as Ears. Ears is sending triggers and an envelope that at times modulates the phaser and the wavefolder on the Befaco Pony oscillator. The field recording also frequency modulates the oscillator at times. Finally, there is a channel of the oscillator ring modulated with the field recording.

When I got into modular, the idea of a fully analog signal chain appealed to me. Clearly, this patch relies heavily on digital modules, and it confirmed somewhat my hesitation to get digital modules. When I set the feedback too high on the phaser, it can get glitchy in appealing ways, but also in annoying clippy ways. I don't hate the digital artifacts or things that sound digitally processed, but it's not necessarily what I want out of Eurorack.

Oscillator roly poly update 2: Looking slightly more roly poly-like! He has also been named Oscar for the record. The issue with the adder was a silly one, and I sorted that out immediately after looking at it again later. Currently, I'm using the disting mk4 as my adder, but I think I remember there being a way to use VCAs for the same purpose. Cus turns out I need more adders.

Green signal: Rectified sine from Pam's, same as last time.

Blue signal: I now have this added to the Pam's signal to make that arc. Which is such an obvious solution in retrospect. But hey, knowledge gained!

Red signal: Id like Oscar to have alternating colors on his bands, but im not sure of how to do phase shifts with my current modules. I know Pam's can do phase shifted waves, but I also want to explore less obvious solutions so I can look cool and smart. So for now it's just a second square oscillator that's going in and out of phase with the first. Making this one arc like the blue signal is also why I need that second adder.

DFAM is leading the charge with a groove that’s going into the @ondemagnetique Marantz Cassette Echo, which is then going into the @obliterations_rml EFCcv for some annihilation, then out into the ext. in of the Mother-32 to use its filter for shaping the sound further. there, the DFAM is also joined by the pulsing oscillator of the Mother-32, both going out into the @expertsleepers Disting Mk4 for another round of delay. in anticipation of my next big purchase (Buchla Easel Command), i figured i’d try a little west coast approach with the @makenoisemusic DPO complex oscillator going into @intellijel Polaris with the cutoff all the way down and treating it as a lowpass gate, with Maths as envelope. joining it, are the STO into uBurst for a little stereo texture, and the Telharmonic with some rising shepard tones. then Plonk and @ericasynths Sample Drum take care of the other drum sounds. In this video I started without any patch cable plugged in. You can follow my patching steps.

I use a lfo as a clock for the turing machine. from the turing machine to the disting mk 4 (quantizer mode). disting mk 4 to dixie 2+ maths (both triggers 1 and 4 are on) maths to dixie 2+ FM1 and FM2 dixie 2+ to roland VCF 521 roland VCF 521 to output

I will be doing lunch break modular sessions more often!

😂😂😂😂😂. I don’t know what to say about this patch other than it’s absolutely ridiculous. Marbles (Cara) makes great drum beats with Braids and Plaits as well as a rocking bass line on the 0coast. The weird theremin sound was coming from the Disting MK4. I recently reworked about half my modular synthesizer, with some key priorities in mind, among them (1) introducing some modules with their own strong personalities, notably the 4MS Spectral Multiband Resonator and the Ieaskul F. Mobenthey Swoop, and (2) having a means to be always recording. I added a Expert Sleepers Disting MK4 between the mixer and the output to use as an always-on recorder. This track is a first attempt I made at using the IFM Swoop. Here the Swoop is producing a triangle wave, bounds of which are changing as the track proceeds (among other variables I'm just beginning to wrap my head around). It's secondarily being sent through a low-pass filter, to take the upper edge off. The attached photo shows the patch, though some of the knobs were fiddled with as it ran. (Perhaps the main thing I learned today was that it's sort of a hassle to get the SD card in and out of the Disting. The always-on recording was nice, though. This is the end of a longer segment, the opening part of which was even lower on the learning curve. When I was done, I just edited off the opening half and introduce a fade-in. The fade-out was done manually with my in-rack mixer.)
