some people had a tendency to view the world through ROSE-COLORED GLASS, and others  –  the superior realists, bordering on pessimists  –  had a more grounded perspective. odette was the latter, and emma–god bless her–was an extremist version of the former which drove her friend to the brink of insanity. although emma claimed to practice the whole keep-your-house-keys-between-your-fingers-at-all-times schtick when leaving her home, her inability to turn down strangers in need of assistance brought her back to SQUARE ONE. “ one of the many, many things that baffles me about you is that you remain unmurdered. ” odette refrains from condemning the other further, and instead puts down TASER as a future birthday present.

    it’s ingrained into him  –  this  LOW TOLERANCE  for liquor, deriving from childhood fear and teen abstinence. he drinks, but not a lot. never to the amount where he is now : wobbling, leaning onto a frailer stature for support. emma’s a trooper, really, to respond to a phone - call made  –  not by him, of course–his password was  LOST  in the drunken haze, and frankly he would’ve been unable to type it with any accuracy, regardless–but by a well - meaning bartender. small towns are good like that, he thinks, they all know who to call.   “   i think that you’re amazing,   ”   he starts, one arm slung over her shoulder.   “   and i mean that in a  COMPLETELY PLATONIC–unless you don’t want it to be platonic ‘cause i could make that happen right away–sort of way.   ”   it’s word vomit unlike ever before, but  LOGICAL THINKING,  and the much needed shame, were held off by a barrier consisting of beer, and whiskey, and some more beer.

When you hear that this life favors some folks more than others then I count myself to be one the luckiest person to have you. I can boldly say that life has favored me so much.

Behind the Scenes

(A Clexa Au)

“It’s almost time,” Lexa whispered, standing in the wings of the stage. Clarke looked over at her girlfriend, dressed as Hippolyta. She remembered when Lexa had got the part they both laughed at the name,

“You can never name a girl that!” Clarke had protested.

“Well you could back then, Clarke.” Lexa beamed at her, kissed her on the lip.

“But you don’t even look like a Hippolyta!” 

Lexa laughed, “that’s a good thing, I think?” she shrugged a little. But she couldn’t stop bouncing on her heels with excitement, “you’re going to help me practice it right??”

“Of course,” Clarke had laughed, “how could I turn down an amazonian queen with a magical girdle??” 

Lexa snorted, took her by the upper arms and leaned in and kissed her on the lips before saying, “magical girdle, huh? I think you just want in my pants.”

But now it was opening night, and Lexa looked so nervous, she was twisting her hands and Clarke could tell that she was going through lines in her head. So leaning in Clarke kissed her on the lips. Lexa blinked quickly and looked up at her> Clarke gripped her girl by the shoulders, “you know this part, babe...inside out, backwards..” she nodded quickly to reassure her, “you’re going to nail this, okay?” 

“Okay.” Lexa smiled bravely at her.

“Places, everyone!” Indra, the director of the calls called out, “Curtain in five minutes!!” 

Clarke looked toward it in time to see other actresses and actors scrambling about to get into their places. Including John who played Philostrate, and Lincoln who had the role of Theseus. But Lexa hadn’t moved and Indra bellowed,

“Lexa! That means you!”

“Coming!” Lexa called out. She turned and looked at Clarke and their eyes met again. Clarke smiled at her and checked her over, her hair was perfect and it was hard to see her really through the heavy stage makeup. But she could see her girlfriend’s nervous green eyes. She squeezed her hand, “time for you to go.” 

“Clarke…..” Lexa whispered. She didn’t show nerves often, in front of anyone. But Clarke knew where to look for them and squeezed her hand again,

“You got this baby. And I’m gonna be right in the front row cheering you on.” 

Lexa laughed softly, “don’t cheer too loudly. It’s not a football game.” she tried to tease. Clarke just laughed, kissed her hand, and slowly backed away, “break a leg...but not really okay?”

“Got it, Clarke.” Lexa laughed. 

“One minute!” Indra shouted, and quick as she could, Clarke dashed off the stage and ran down the ramp and around the side to slide into her seat in the front row near Raven. She was holding her breath and didn’t even know it. She stared at the red curtain, waiting for it to go up.

“Breathe, Clarke.” Raven shouldered her.

“I can’t help it. All she’s wanted to do is be an actress.” she pulled in the breath though. The next thing she knew, the house lights were dimming..down and the curtain went up and so did the stage lights, illuminating a moderate set that was supposed to be the Palace of Theseus, Lexa was just entering at the side of the stage, walking with Lincoln and John. Lincoln’s was the opening line,

“Now, fair Hippolyta, our nuptial hour draws on apace; four happy days bring in another moon: but, O, methinks, how slow this old moon wanes! She lingers my desires, like to a step-dame or a dowager long withering out a young man's revenue.” Lincoln glanced at Lexa. 

Lexa answered, “four days will quickly steep themselves in night” the trio stopped in the middle of the stage, “four nights will quickly dream away the time…” Clarke had her hands in front of her chest and was whispering the lines along with her, “and then the moon, like to a silver bow new-bent in heaven…”

“-Clarke,” Beside her, Raven her off.

“-what??” she hissed under her breath, not taking her eyes off of Lexa who was deeply in character right now and Clarke was still whispering the lines right along with her, “..shall behold the night of our solemnities.”

“Will you hush??” Raven elbowed her, “I’m trying to watch!” 

“Okay!” Clarke gave in, “okay!” she slumped in her chair, watching her girlfriend command the stage. Soon she was smiling and lost in the play. Lexa captured Hippolyta perfectly and Clarke laughed at the irony. 

It was going to be a really good night
