Jealous guy.
– CHRIS STURNIOLO ANGST & FLUFF.
Author's note: I worked hard on this because it's for my biggest fan. You know I love my angsty shit, so I took your idea and combined it with mine. I hope y'all like it. 🤍 Do not copy/steal my work. :)
Ps. I'm the kind of bitch that gets all giddy and shit when Chris says "my girl" in my OWN FIC. Okay.
Warnings: not really a warning but mentions of fighting and a lil bloody lip. Mwuah. Didn't proofread, sorry!
[ YOU ]
"Okay, and what the hell do you want me to do about it?" I almost scream, turning around to look at Chris.
He was fuming, to say the least. His hair was messy, he didn't have a shirt on but wore his usual gray sweatpants. His glare was deadly.
"Uhm, I don't know, tell him to not send fucking flowers to OUR apartment?!" he shouts, throwing his phone on the couch. The irony in his voice is more than evident.
I couldn't believe it when I saw it either Honestly, I never expected him to go to such lengths. Despite being just a co-worker, he's become a relentless presence in my life. Whether it's showing up everywhere at work, bringing me coffee, or bombarding me with emails – it's relentless. The boundary crossed when he managed to find my address; literally searching for my goddamn address and sending me flowers? That is wild. Of course I told Chris about it, but he acts as if it is my fault this psycho found our address.
"I don't even know his phone number, Chris! How would I ever know that he'd search for the address and send me flowers?" I sigh, still very angry.
"I'll beat the shit out of him, I swear.. the game starts in less than an hour, fucking hell.." he says, checking his watch, "how the fuck am I ever going to play when I'm like this?"
I don't reply to him – he really makes it sound like it's my fault and despite my initial enthusiasm for the game, it's waned due to his blame game. Still, I don't want to come off as a heartless bitch, especially on the eve of his crucial match. So, I grab my phone, wallet, and keys before heading over to him.
"I really hope you win." I whisper, placing a soft peck on his cheek before exiting the bedroom and shortly after, leaving the apartment.
[ CHRIS ]
She left. Fucking hell. I always do bullshit like this – I can't keep my big mouth shut and now she's not even coming to the game. I really needed her in this one. But that is my own fault.
In the quiet solitude of our apartment, I try to prepare for the upcoming game; amidst the dim glow of our living room, I meticulously don my team jersey, each movement an attempt to shift my focus. Taking a moment, I inhale deeply, trying to be as calm as possible before the game.
With a determined resolve, I grab my gear, the familiar scent of the hockey bag triggering a surge of adrenaline. As I step outside, the crisp evening air hits me, momentarily clearing my mind. The journey to the rink is a silent contemplation, the distant echoes of the city fading as I immerse myself in mental preparation.
Arriving at the arena, I feel the familiar anticipation. The ambient sounds of the crowd and distant echoes of skates on the ice envelop me, grounding me in the moment. I exchange nods and greetings with teammates. The locker room door creaks open, revealing the sanctum where emotions are set aside, and the game becomes paramount. Amidst the hum of chatter and the clatter of equipment, I sigh; I really want her to come. I still have hope, although I doubt it. The tension lingers as I tighten my skate laces, and Jake, my teammate and friend, notices my distraction.
"You seem off, Chris. Everything okay?" Jake asks.
"Yeah.." I look up at him, and he seems like he already knows, "..just had a big fight with my girl before I left. Can't shake it off," I confess.
Jake pats me on the shoulder. "I understand, man. I wish I could say something but you gotta leave it behind for now. We've got a game to win. Sort things out later."
On the ice, rival players almost immediately target me, seeming to be aware of my vulnerable state; it must be that fucking expression of mine. I can't hide it. During the first period, a smirking opponent skates by, taunting, "trouble at home, Chrissy? Should focus on that instead of the game." he smiles.
Enraged, I retaliate with a forceful check, earning myself a penalty, "keep your temper in check, Chris!" warns the referee.
In the penalty box, I mutter under my breath, "I can't fucking believe this."
As the match progresses, rival players intensify their attempts to provoke me; we've played with those fuckers before, and if anyone has seen me in a game, they know very well the only thing that can affect the way I play is her. Undeterred, I channel my anger into my plays, determined to win this goodamn game while internally wondering if she came to see me after all.
In a breakaway, I find myself one-on-one with the opposing goalie. With a swift deke, I send the puck into the net, equalizing the score. The crowd erupts, and my teammates cheer.
Rival players persist in their attempts to get under my skin. During a tense moment, an opposing forward sneers, "look, your girlfriend's probably enjoying the show. Make sure to not embarass her again."
After that, I almost lose it, and in a heated moment, a rival defenseman delivers a high stick to my face, splitting my lip. Blood drips onto the ice as I stumble backward. The referee signals a penalty, but the damage is done.
Undeterred by the bleeding, I clench my fists, "you think that's going to stop me? You fucking coward!" I almost scream to make sure that fucking asshole hears me.
The game continues, and during a power play, I push through the pain. I charge towards the net, ignoring the throbbing pain in my lip – the only thing on my mind is her and making her proud.
Fueled by a surge of anger and determination, I respond with a spectacular goal that secures the lead for my team. I skate past the jeering opponent, acknowledging the crowd's cheers.
As the final buzzer sounds, signaling our victory, I finally spot my girlfriend in the stands. My heart beats faster. A mix of emotions plays across her face, and I realize the significance of my performance. It's like no one else is around, just us and that is the only thing that matters. I keep eye contact with her, even when my teammates are cheering for me and I smile, even with that bloody lip – she smiles back and I want to kiss her so bad.
[ YOU ]
When I saw Chris' bloody lip, I almost lost it – the restraint within me, resisting the urge to jump in and shove my fingernails into that asshole's eye sockets, is beyond words. I was well aware they were deliberately provoking Chris; his simmering anger was very evident. The recklessness in his gameplay during the initial stages of the game made it even more obvious that he was more focused on what they said than the actual game.
I kept yelling his name at the top of my lungs, unsure if he could hear, but I desperately wished for his victory, especially after that intense fight. Witnessing him wince from the pain now and then, I felt an overwhelming urge to cry.
As he scored the decisive goal and secured the victory, I couldn't contain my excitement, jumping up and down. It brought back memories of our younger days when I always cheered him on during his games.
When all of this was over and I just stood there, I could see him looking at me. His gaze finally finds me in the midst of the crowd, and my heart feels like it might leap out of my chest. Everything else fades away, leaving only him in my line of sight.
I notice all of the team leaving, probably going to the locker rooms and I quickly head to the exit door.
In the dimly lit corridor outside of where the locker rooms are, he finally comes outside and spots me waiting there, my expression a mix of anticipation and apprehension.
"Hey," he calls out, his voice carrying a hint of both excitement and apology.
I look up, meeting his eyes, "hey," a subtle smile playing on my lips, "you played amazing out there."
Still trying to catch his breath, he wraps his arms around me in a tight hug, keeping me close for a while. We are not saying anything, I just hold him close, my fingers buried in his sweaty hair.
"Thank you so much for coming." he whispers.
"I would never lose any of your games. Even when you're being an asshole." I smile, which I am sure he can hear when I'm speaking.
"I am so sorry. I didn't mean to put the blame on you. I just.. I am fucking jealous. I don't want any other guy near you." he keeps his voice as low as possible.
"Shhh, I know. Let's take care of that lip first and then you can apologise to me all you want." I pull away but he doesn't let go of course – I cup his cheek and take out some tissue that I keep in my bag for emergency with my free hand. I gently pat the skin, trying to clean the blood as much as I can without hurting him.
His eyes soften, "seriously, baby. Thanks for coming. I always play better when you're cheering for me."
I look up at him, my gaze softening as well as I cup both of his cheeks now, "I know. I am so, so proud of you. You were amazing, as always." I whisper, leaning in to play the softest kiss on his little wound.
"God, I love you." he whispers, wrapping his arms around my waist, hugging me close to him.
"I love you too."

Nikki Sixx x reader- Savior (angst)
Authors Note: I wanted to write for Nikki again, so we're writing a nikki angst. Enjoy and remember that my ask box is open for requests! <3 ;) Also this obviously isn't going to be the exact story of the '87 overdose, but it's kinda close.
Warnings: Cussing, hard drugs, crying, over all sadness, with fluff at the end. If these things trigger you, please don't read it :)
It was late one night, you were with one of your best friends, and crush, Nikki, along with Steve adler, Slash and his girlfriend. You were all drunk, and high. You were sitting on the couch laughing with Slash's girlfriend, While Nikki and Steve were on the floor doing coke. Slash was passed out on another couch.
You zoned out, watching Nikki's face move and contort. You hated to admit it, but Nikki looked totally hot doing coke, even though you knew it was bad. Nikki looked at you and smiled. You blushed and looked back at Slash's girlfriend.
"Hey guys, I'm gonna go outside for a smoke, I'll be back," I got upp off of the couch and stumbled out of the hotel door.
What you didn't know was that, having a smoke in that moment was a horrible idea, the worst ever. You would go on to regret ever leaving that hotel room. Unaware, you continued through the hotel lobby, and on to the cold night. You looked at the sky, immediately the moon reminded you of Nikki.
You often stared up at the sky, imagining living in one of those distant galaxies, with Nikki. He was had such an alien-istic outlook on life, you had never someone who had such wild opinions, but that's what made him interesting. As teens, you and Nikki would sit for hours outside, talking about life, and the moral out codes of being a rockstar, or what you wanted to do with your life. Beyond the musical aspect of life you both shared, you were much alike, sharing many qualities, but also none at all.
You had once again zoned out, the smoke from your cigarette wisting away along with your conscious. You heard sirens, not thinking a thought of it. You looked across the street at the corner store, deciding to grab some more beers. You quickly ran across the street pulling out your wallet. Lines and lines of beers were stacked up on the back wall. You took your pick and payed for it. Walking out the store and seeing an ambulance, as well as seeing Nikki.
You dropped the beer and ran into the street, not even looking if there were any cars. You ran up to Steve, who was standing with his hands on his head.
"What the hell happened?" You yelled. ""What the hell happened?" You yelled.
"He overdosed on heroin." Steve said, sounding extremely scared.
"YOU LET HIM DO FUCKING HEROIN?" I screamed at him, throwing my hands up in the air.
Any last bit of my high was gone, I was completely sobered up. Tears threatened to spill as looked behind me at the white sheet on the gurney. They pulled him into the ambulance.
"Will anyone be coming with him?" The paramedic asked quickly.
"Take my car," I threw my keys at Steve.
I jumped in the the back of the ambulance. The doors closing behind me. I looked at Nikki, who's face was completely relaxed. You sat next to him, the paramedics stood next to the wall of medical things. They were trying everything, shocking him, CPR, anything they though would work. You grabbed his cold hand, and held it in yours. The paramedics yelled at each other. I sat silently.
"Nikki I love you," I whispered. "You can't leave me now."
I knew he didn't hear me, I didn't care. He was far off in a coma, his body threatening cardiac arrest. I moved my hands to my lap, still staring at his face. It was flushed, and almost lifeless. You felt sick, like you were going to puke. The paramedics grabbed the large gurney, and pulled him out of the large truck.
"Stay in the lobby ma'am," The male paramedic said, holding his hand out to help me down.
I quickly walked behind them into the long hospital hallways before I watched them wheel his body away, I trembled, my legs felt like Jello. I walked to a seat, sitting there quietly. The thought of him shooting up replayed through my brain, a deafening ringing was in my ears, but there was no sound. It was an empty waiting room, despite it being a Friday night.
---
You were overwhelmed and anxious, as anyone would be. Sitting in the waiting room, you felt as though your eyes were as dry as a desert, your throat was stinging, as though you had just been screaming for hours on end. You felt a tap on your shoulder, it was Nikki. You looked over, his face staring straight at yours. You screeched before getting up and stumbling back away from him. He had maggots, and other bugs crawling through holes on his lifeless face. Parts of flesh were missing from his body, he looked like he had been dead for years. You stumbled back into another person, turning around, and screaming again, your eyes veered at Nikki, who was standing in front of you. You looked around, all of the seats had been filled with the image of Nikki's cold lifeless body. You ran down the hall in terror, before stopping at a cross way.
He was every where, suddenly, a young Nikki was in front of you. Staring you down like a hawk. His tiny hands wrapped around your throat, screeching at you.
"why did you let this happen to me?!?!?!"
You couldn't breath, not a single bit
---
The tap on your shoulder had woken you up, it was a doctor.
"Are you with the man who had overdosed?" She asked politely.
I looked around confused, I was sitting in the same seat I was before, but this time, the seats around you were filled up with different people, all kinds.
"Y-yes," I stuttered. "Oh god, is he okay?"
"Do you want to see him?" She asked, her hand on my shoulder.
"Yes please," I got up and she walked me to the room he was in.
I looked at him and immediately ran up to him, his eyes looked at me, smiling. I wrapped my arms around him gently, as he was probably feeling horrible. The doctor walked out, shutting the door.
"Nikki you're a fucking idiot!" I said, looking at him. "If you do heroin ever fucking again, I'll kill you myself you fucker."
He laughed before coughing a bit.
"It'll take more than that to kill me, babe," He smiled, still looking a bit pale.
Your hand caressed his face.
"God I'm so happy you're alive." I hugged him again.
"Yeah yeah," His arm slightly raised, he groaned from pain.
"Don't you dare move until they tell you you can," I look at him."
He rebelled, grabbing my hand, and looking me in the eyes, i blushed slightly.
"I heard what you said." He said quietly.
"Oh?" I looked down embarrassed. "I didn't think you would, uhm, I thought you were gone.."
"I love you too, Y/n," He smiled. "Always have, and always will."
"I think you need some sleep hun," I laughed, chopping up what he had said to him just being disoriented.
"I mean it." He tugged your hand lightly. "I love you"
My breath caught in my throat. I leaned down and kissed him, my lips fit perfectly against his. He kissed back immediately. I pulled up a chair after kissing him and sat down, and after 1 million years, Steve, slash and his girlfriend all show up. They walked in, thanking god that Nikki was alive. Steve started to profusely apologize, Nikki told him it was okay, and that he wasn't mad. I was just happy he was okay, and that I finally had him.
And I could finally take care of him the way he deserved to be.

So many WIPs of yours sound delicious but you know me, I'm curious about Bodies and RoboKid 👀👀 Tell me more with snippets?<3
Oh wow, going from talking about The Black Shepherd yesterday to getting an ask about these two nearly gave my brain a whiplash! Bodies and RoboKid are both sci-fi and centered around themes of identity and humanity so it's cool that you're asking about them together and giving me the chance to think about their differences and similarities! <3
(for anyone curious about the rest of my WIPs, the list is right here!)
RoboKid
I do believe you might be familiar with RoboKid, since I brainstormed the story in our discord chat a while back.
In a not so distant future where robots are taking over more and more of our daily tasks, the MC of the story is the son of a famous scientist who is at the forefront of the development of the first Manufactured Human, the MH01, a robot entierly indistinguishable from a human. Only before the MH01 project can finish, the mother dies, and leaves the MC with an extensive home lab... a home lab that reveals that the first MH was actually successfully created about ten years ago, and that MC's entire existance has been a lie...
Again, like all other stories about human like robots, this story would touch on questions like human rights, identity, and where does the line go between human and non-human? Our poor MC is not going to have a great time going through a very valid existencial crisis while trying to escape the money-sniffing corporations that want to get their hands on him to figure out how he was made.
It's a good thing he'll have a friend by his side to help him stay sane.
Bodies
Bodies is set in a futuristic world where bodies are commodities; anyone can buy themselves whichever body they want. Well, anyone who can afford it. And those who can afford it can have several bodies, some grown by commission just for them. Since they can simply maintain/change their bodies, they never have to grow physically old and die.
A biobod is hella expensive, and the producers are few - but stepping into a biobod that fits you is said to feel right, like coming home.
Most people who want another body have to make do with artificial bodies, made with metal bones and silicone skin. The expensive, well made ones can pass for biobods - if only it weren’t for that unshakeable feeling that something is off. Of course, artificial bodies allow for modifications - wings, animal parts, extra limbs, purple eyes, you name it. Your imagination (and your wallet) is the only limit - and the kinks are limitless. Too bad they don’t fit quite right, like there’s some unnameable part chafing somewhere.
There’s also the uniform bodies, worn at work, every employee wearing the face of the company, artificial bodies that only have the parts and functions needed for the wearer to carry out their tasks at work (they tried robots in different forms, but customer satisfaction plummeted. Venting your frustration at an emotionless robot is just not as satisfying as screaming at an actual human, no matter the face).
Our MC works a low level service job, wearing the uniform body of the company. At the end of the day, they’re looking forwards to getting back into their own body.
They’ve never been able to afford anything else, so it’s their birth body - nothing special, but theirs, and changing back into their own body is always a relief at the end of the day.
Only today, when they get back to the changing room, the body in the wheelchair in the corner isn’t theirs. Someone has stolen their body - and they want it back.
As they struggle to get their body back, they'll meet Tassles (born into the wrong body and now happily in possession of a biobod that's just right for them) and the massively famous model for a biobod manufacturer who changes bodies depending on their mood and the latest trends.
I am both deeply fascinated by this story and slightly scared of it. There are so many interesting but difficult topics to touch on, and such potential for messing up. There's the question of how views on gender and race works in this world? How does identification work; is every body registered to their owner? How do you swap between bodies? There's questions of segregation, and wealth, and how the poor sell their healthy birthbodies to make ends meet, and---!
Tho the plot itself is rather straighforward, this story feels like it'll be a massive undertaking but I do hope I'll one day feel ready to take on the challenge!

need a hand?
cw: no specified pronouns/gender, established relationship, fluff, mentions of blood, injuries and death, canon typical violence.
note: requested by @/fggcgsblog
𝟐𝟎:𝟒𝟗 read the time on your watch. you let out a sigh. forty-nine minutes had passed since your boyfriend told you to "wait for me. i'll be back soon." and then rushed out before you could even ask further.
you and mitsuya finally had some time off from your busy schedules so it was mutually decided that a date was much needed and that it would be a great way to spend some time together. only you were waiting in this café with no call or message from him and neither was he answering either of them.
you waited patiently at first but as the time went on your patience turned into worry. this was uncharacteristic of mitsuya. he wasn't irresponsible. and everything he did was for a reason. so there was only one thing that explained his absence and radio silence— he was in danger.
you wanted to believe that you were just overthinking and being silly over nothing. but as soon as a bruised and bloodied mitsuya came into your mind and the thought of potentially losing your boyfriend plagued your thoughts, your heart rate increased and you quickly grabbed your phone, wallet and keys and rushed outside.
⋯ ୨˚୧ ⋯
takashi scrunched his nose as soon as the metallic taste of blood hit his taste buds. he spit it out, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
eyelids drooping and body swaying, mitsuya launched a fist towards the man in front of him only to be punched straight in his gut by him. more blood spewed out of his lips followed by a pained groan.
he was getting tired now. his body was giving up. he was aching almost everywhere and he knew it would be difficult to shower because of all the cuts and bruises painting his body in reds, blues and purples. that was; if they didn't kill him. which was highly unlikely.
guilt also ate him up when he remembered that he had broken his promise of spending some quality time with you. he had kept you waiting alone in that coffee shop full of couples. mikey called him to take care of some business but maybe even his president didn't know the extent of this "business".
"takashi!" his ears rang. did they hit him in the head hard? he was starting to hear your voice now and here of all places. it was distant and muffled though.
"takashi!" but it was getting clearer. his head pounded. yeah he definitely got a serious head injury.
"takashi!" you screamed.
"huh?" he turned around to see you running towards him.
"oh my God. i knew it, i fucking knew it! i should have come sooner. i had a gut feeling but i ignored it for so long- fuck!" you shouted at yourself. angry that you let this happen to the man most precious to you.
"what are you doing here, (name)? go back! this is dangerous" mitsuya's voice drawled. he tried to scold you to somehow make you listen to him. to get you away from this. but frankly? he had no energy.
though, in all honesty mitsuya was happy. he should have guessed it. he should have known. of course you would come! and now that you were here, he wasn't worried in the slightest.
he looked at you as you looked at him, both mirroring a smile.
"oi!" one of them shouted. "we don't have time for this lovey-dovey bullshit."
"yeah! let's kill them both!" and in typical gang fashion they started chanting "yes" which sounded like noise pollution to you than anything.
that was okay though. these low-lives weren't about to go home in one piece anyways.
"ready?" takashi asked, straightening his shoulder and warming up a little.
"more than ready." your lips turned up.
⋯ ୨˚୧ ⋯
"i wanted to thank you for today." mitsuya speaks up though his eyes don't meet yours. he seems to be content staring at the cemented road below. you support his weight and wince a little with every step. you knew you weren't going to come out of it unscathed.
"unghh," his lilac hair covers his face as the wind blows. you help him sit down on the bike and takashi's face contorts in pain.
cupping his face with both your hands, you make him look at you. "you don't need to thank me, darling. your safety is my utmost priority."
takashi let's out a relieved sigh. your voice is so low and soft, just for him. it's so sweet and soothing to his ears after the loud and noisy shouts of those gang men. the pretty smile that you send his way despite the injuries that you carry, makes his heart skip a beat. you look the prettiest when you smile for him. it makes his heart flutter. the way you look into his eyes as if he is your entire world makes his eyes glossy. he stops himself from crying, gulping down the lump in his throat. sometimes he gets overwhelmed by the amount of love and care you have in store for him. he isn't used to it, having always been at the giving end; not the receiving one.
you risked your safety for him. you saved him. you were there for him when he needed help, when he needed you.
"but didn't i tell you not to get involved in gang business? this was dangerous, (name). this could have been fatal."
"and what? let you die? ever thought what would I do if something happened to you? you don't want to think. if those- those motherfu-"
"shh." he placed his index finger on your lips. you looked down at his finger and then at him, heat rushing to your face. mitsuya leans closer and now your forehead touches his. "you wouldn't do anything. you would continue to live your life normally. you wouldn't do anything to put yourself in danger or make your life miserable. it's not the end of the world. i don't want anything bad happening to you."
"but taka- hmph!"
takashi captures your lips with his and presses them against his in a needy and passionate kiss. a hand brings you closer towards his body as he deepens the kiss. "kiss me."
"a good way to shut me up." takashi lets out a chuckle.

masterlist
You quickened your pace as the footsteps behind you got closer and closer. Refusing to turn around, you kept running, hoping that eventually you would pass someone on the sidewalk and the footsteps would leave you alone. But you weren’t that lucky.
Suddenly, you felt a tug on your purse. The strap snapped off your shoulder and you fell forward, scraping your palms on the concrete.
“Hey!” you yelled, finally turning around. A man with a black sweatshirt stood over you, scrounging through your purse. Your favorite lipsticks fell to the ground as he pulled out your wallet and all your cash.
You knew better than to fight back, but something in you felt brave. You kicked his shin with your stiletto, making him groan out in pain and drop your bag. You quickly reached for it, but yelped when you saw a blade in front of your face.
“Don’t you dare move, little lady,” he hissed, reaching for the bag again.
“Help!” you screamed desperately. “Someone help!”
“Shut up!” the man yelled back, moving the blade close to you. Tears started streaming down your face as you closed your eyes, preparing yourself for any injury.
Suddenly, you heard a whoosh! and the mugger yelled. You hesitantly opened your eyes and saw the man dangling by a web. You gasped, realizing you were just saved by New York’s favorite vigilante. A flash of red fell in front of you, and suddenly, you were face to face with the man himself.
“Hey, hey, hey,” he said softly, brushing the tears off of your cheek. “Don’t cry. You’re okay.”
You smiled at his kind gesture. Something about his voice felt so familiar yet so distant at the same time. He picked up your bag and started putting all your belongings back in it, then offered his hand.
“Come on. I’ll walk you home.”
You gently took his hand and he helped you stand up. You slung your purse back over your shoulder as Spider-Man wrapped a strong arm around your waist.
“Hold on tight,” he warned you.
“Wait! Nononono,” you cried, shaking your head. “Please don’t swing. I have awful motion sickness.”
“Oh,” he said, moving his hand. “I had no idea. We can just walk, then.”
“You don’t have to escort me. I’ll be fine.”
“No, please. I insist. I want to make sure you’re safe.”
“Are you sure?” you asked.
“I promise. Now, come on. We can walk and talk.”
You smiled and nodded before you started walking. Spider-Man quickly rushed to your side. His presence still felt so familiar, but you couldn’t quite place it.
“So, any big plans for this Friday night?” he asked. You could tell he was disguising his voice to sound deeper, but why?
“Nothing really. My boyfriend is coming over and we’re gonna cook dinner.”
“Boyfriend?” he repeated in a surprised tone. “I should’ve known a pretty thing like you wasn’t single.”
You giggled, “Nope. His name’s Peter.”
Spider-Man nodded. “I hope he treats you well. You deserve it.”
“Aw, thank you,” you said through soft laughter.
The two of you continued to make small talk as you walked to your apartment. Something still felt off, though. It was almost like he knew where you lived, but he was trying to pretend he didn’t. He still felt so familiar to you, and you had no idea why.
Within an few minutes, you were outside your building. You stopped walking and turned to the hero next to you.
“This is me,” you said with a smile. “Thank you for saving me and for taking me home. I really appreciated your company.”
“Of course. It’s what I’m here for,” he said with a shrug. “I liked talking with you, although I hope we don’t have to meet under these circumstances again.”
You giggled, “Me too. Thanks again, Spider-Man.”
You placed a small kiss on his masked cheek and headed towards the main door. Spider-Man shot a web and blasted towards the sky, shouting “Woo-hoo!” as he swung through the city.
Now that sounded familiar.
You wrestled over who the masked hero could be as you rode the elevator up to your floor. Who was that voice? How did he know where you lived?
As you stepped through the door of your apartment, realization slapped you across the face.
“Son of a bitch!” you gasped. “I’m dating Spider-Man!”
It all made sense to you: why Peter was always a few minutes behind, why he always had healing cuts and bruises, why he was the only one able to snap a picture of him, why something about the hero felt so familiar.
An almost giddy feeling replaced the shock. You thought you were dating the nerdiest guy in the city, but it turns out, you were dating the most amazing guy in the city. And if Peter didn’t want to tell you, then you wanted to have some fun with it yourself.
An hour later, there was a knock on your door. You set down the bottle of wine you were pouring into two glasses and ran to open it. Peter was standing on the other side, holding a bouquet of flowers. His bright blue eyes lit up when they landed on you.
“Hi, honey!” you said with a smile, stepping to the side.
“Hi,” he responded, placing a light kiss on your cheek. “You look gorgeous.”
“Thank you,” you said, taking the flowers from his hands. “These are so pretty.”
“I know tulips are your favorite.”
“Yes they are!” you answered as you poured water into a vase. You placed the flowers inside and set them on the table.
“I have everything for pasta out and ready. All we have to do is put it together,” you explained.
Peter nodded, “Just tell me what to do, my love.”
You tasked him with chopping veggies for a salad while you worked on cooking the sauce. Some soft rock played in the background while you two cooked.
“How was your day?” Peter asked. You smiled to yourself, knowing this was your opportunity.
“Oh, pretty okay. Spider-Man saved me on my way home.”
“Saved you?” he asked. “What happened?”
You looked over to see him hiding a coy smile. With a playful grin of your own, you said, “I was getting mugged, but he came to my rescue. It was so cool.”
“Mugged? Are you okay?” he said with concern, setting the knife down to look at you.
“Oh, I’m fine now. Spider-Man made sure of it. I can see why he’s so popular.”
“What do you mean?” Peter asked, standing behind you as you stirred the noodles.
You shrugged, “He’s really charming. I bet he’s super handsome under that mask.”
Peter furrowed his brows. You kept playing, though, and pretended not to notice.
“Y’know, my friend at work got saved by him once, and now she’s in love with him. I definitely felt like a high school girl when he saved me: all giddy and smiley.”
“What are you saying?” Peter asked, a little disappointed.
“I don’t know,” you said, setting the spoon down and looking over at him. “He told me I was pretty.”
“And did you tell him you had a boyfriend? Who you love very much?”
With a smile, you shook your head. “Nope.”
A flash of emotions went over his face, from confusion to hurt. “You didn’t?”
“Why would I? It’s not like sexy superheroes save me every day. I should be allowed to shoot my shot.”
Peter frowned, “That’s not fair.”
“Relax, honey. Nothing happened.”
“I still don’t think that’s fair. I don’t want you flirting with anyone else.”
“Peter, it’s not like I’m ever gonna see him again,” you explained. “Don’t get so worked up. Besides, don’t you know him? You’re the only one who gets pictures of him for The Bugle.”
“Yeah, and that’s why I’m a little upset.”
“Oh, honey,” you giggled, draping your arms over his shoulders. “You know I’m kidding.”
“No, I don’t.”
You fake pouted and planted a kiss on his lips. “Stop being so angry. I love you.”
He sighed and finally cracked a smile. “I love you, too.”
You kissed him again before stepping back to stir the sauce. He returned to making the salad, putting all the vegetables in a bowl before grabbing a spoon to toss it.
“Besides, I don’t think it counts as cheating if you’re Spider-Man.”
He sent the spoon clattering to the floor. “What?!”

Somebody’s Baby
a stu macher x fem!reader one shot requested by the lovely @slasherscream
I try to shut my eyes, but I can't get her outta my sight. I know I'm gonna know her, but I gotta get over my fright.
pairing: Stu Macher x fem!reader word count: 5.6k warnings: s m u t, longing, fluff, angst, oral, teasing, honestly I went off (my bad)
Stu Macher never really did stand a chance. At least not when it came to you.
He was putty in your hands, whether you knew it or not. He’d do anything for you, everything for you – even if that meant taking a backseat to Billy Loomis. He had to admit, it was gutting to watch you and Billy interact the way you did. The two of you were close – hell, the three of you were close – but there was something about you and Billy that seemed to just…make sense.
And, for the most part, Stu was okay with that. For the most part being the key words. Because, fuck, he’d be a liar if he said that tonight of all nights wasn’t bothering him. It was a night not unlike any other. The three of you had decided on a movie that Stu couldn’t really bring himself to care about all too much as you and Billy harped on and on about whatever it was the two of you were talking about, but it was your attitude that was rubbing him the wrong way.
You were distant tonight. You were cold. You seemed to smile real big whenever Billy would make a comment about the movie but if Stu said a goddamn word it was as though he’d sucker punched you in the gut. It didn’t feel angry, or at least he didn’t think you were angry, but there was something off about the whole damn thing and it was driving him mental.
You were tucked away in the chair with your knees curled up into your chest, frowning at a particularly bloody scene on the TV, a seemingly important one too, but Stu couldn’t bring himself to watch it. He was far too busy trying to discern what the lines on your forehead meant, what the furrowed brow and small, barely-there frown on that pretty face of yours meant. Had he unknowingly done something wrong? He didn’t think so, but stupid shit came out of his mouth all day long so, he supposed, it wasn’t impossible.
But there was a niggling feeling in his gut that told him that couldn’t be it. You weren’t mad or annoyed, you were cold. You were distant. It was as though you’d barricaded yourself away from him and done so with purpose. But why?
Why, why, why?
“It’s eight, Stu,” Billy muttered, far too engrossed in the movie to bother looking his way. “Didn’t you have to be at whatsername’s by eight-thirty?”
Glancing down at the time on his watch, Stu stretched out his long limbs and chanced another look at you only to find that your eyes were solely focused on the wall just beyond the television. For a moment, he remained still, waiting for you to do something. To look at him, to make a quip about his date, to do literally anything besides ignore him, but when your stare remained cast ahead, Stu sighed and stood up to his full height. “Yeah, yeah, I’m going.” He griped. “Think she’ll put out?”
It was meant to be a joke, something to lighten the mood or, at the very least, get you to crack a smile or roll your eyes, but when all you did was continue in your stare-off with the fucking wall, Stu’s stomach fell.
What the fuck was your problem tonight?
“Tact, fucker. Y/N is right here.” Billy rolled his eyes but shot him a small smirk. “And if she has a brain, don’t count on it.”
“Hilarious,” Stu mocked. “You guys need anything before I go? Some water? Some beer? Handful of condoms?”
“Fuck off,” Billy cracked a grin. “Don’t do anything stupid tonight.” He gave Stu a knowing look, being sure to keep his mouth shut around you in fear of letting anything regarding their little charade slip.
“Me?” Stu feigned hurt. “Never.”
Once again, he waited for you to say anything – a goodbye, at the very least – but when he got nothing in return, Stu merely rolled his eyes and walked out of the house.
You, on the other hand, remained stoic as ever as you blinked back a flurry of tears daring to spill out of the corners of your eyes. Your heart was in your stomach and your nails, which had been digging into your palms for the better half of the evening, carved out tiny half-moons into the sensitive flesh as you fought back every urge you had to scream and yell at the idiot for leaving you yet again.
The sound of the front door shutting was enough to make your body relax just enough for a few stray tears to roll down your cheeks. You were just so mad and so incredibly hurt all at once and, while you should have been used to it by now, it never got any easier watching that tall bitch of a man you’d grown to love over the years walk out for yet another date with another woman who was not yourself.
“You okay?” Billy asked, lulling his head towards you from his spot on the couch. He was the one person in the world to know your true feelings about Stu Macher and, while he’d never admit to it out loud, you knew he was oddly protective of you when it came to Stu’s idiocy, especially where his dating life was concerned.
You swallowed hard, not quite trusting your voice in fear of breaking down in front of him. So, instead, you remained silent and barely nodded. Was it hot in here or was it just you? You suddenly felt like you couldn’t breathe as you sat in the dark room with Billy to your left and Stu now long gone. Deep breaths, you thought to yourself, squeezing your palms yet again. Deep, calming breaths.
You heard Billy sigh as he paused the movie. “Y/N,” he muttered, his tone careful, “how’s he going to know how you feel if you don’t actually say shit about it?”
Through the thick blanket of tears still gathering in your eyes, you focused your glare on the dark-haired man. “Fuck off,” you barked out, “like it’s that easy.”
“It is,” he shrugged. “What’s stopping you?”
“The idiot has a date every week, Billy,” you hissed, “am I supposed to show up with a bouquet of fucking roses declaring my feelings as his tongue’s down some other girls’ throat?” With your emotions at an all-time high, you stood up from the chair and raised a shaky hand to anxiously toy with your hair. “I mean does he have to parade his shit around here the way he does? It drives me nuts.”
Billy remained quiet and still as he watched you pace in front of the tv. He’d seen this frenzied look on your face only once before, but he knew what was coming next. It wasn’t often that you let your feelings finally bubble over to the brink of explosion, but if your current state was any indication, he was about to witness a breakdown.
Standing up to his full height, Billy quietly walked towards you and placed his hands on either shoulder, holding you in place as his brown eyes searched your own watery gaze. “Hey,” he cooed, brow puckered. “Stu’s a fucking idiot if he doesn’t see what’s in front of him.”
You chewed on your lip in an attempt to contain the sob desperately clawing its way up your throat. “I can’t watch him do it anymore, Bill,” you finally said, barely above a whisper. “It just hurts too much.”
It wasn’t often you were met with the soft side of Billy Loomis, but you cherished those moments – though so far and few between – each and every time. With a sigh, Billy wrapped his arms around your shoulders and tugged you close. He said nothing, though, because what could he say? Stu was a fucking moron when it came to you, he knew as much, but uttering those words at a time like this would only hurt you more.
You sniffed, your tears bleeding into the cotton of his white t-shirt. “I swear he—”
“Wow,” Stu’s voice rang out into the silence of the room. Snapping your head towards his sudden appearance, you froze in Billy’s arms, terrified of just how much he’d heard. At first, he seemed to just stand there for a second, staring at the two of you wrapped up in each other’s arms with a resigned, almost defeated look in his blue eyes. But all at once, in typical Stu fashion, that serious undertone slowly morphed into an almost amused sneer. “You two move fast, huh? Guess I should’ve grabbed those condoms.”
You rolled your eyes, barely hearing Billy’s sly comeback as you gently pushed him away. That heaviness in your chest that had made you cry only seconds prior was now a raging fire inside of your chest. The audacity this big, dumb, ass of a man had.
“Hilarious, Stu,” you griped, sniffing as you walked back to your chair. “Forever the comedian.”
“Hey,” he held his hands up in surrender. “No shame in it, I didn’t mean to interrupt.”
“You didn’t interrupt shit,” Billy said. “And you know it.”
“What are you even doing back?” You snapped, glowering across at the idiot. “Or did you get bored of this one already?” You made a show of looking down at your watch-less wrist. “Five whole minutes, that’s got to be a new record.”
Stu pretended to laugh. “I forgot my wallet, ice queen,” he grabbed his wallet off of the table but continued to glare down at you. “What’s your problem tonight, anyway? You’ve got a stick shoved so far up your ass it’s practically coming out of your—”
“I wouldn’t go there,” Billy warned, flicking the play button on the remote. “Stop while you’re ahead.”
Stu barely glanced at him. “Nah, Billy,” he shrugged and took a seat on the edge of the couch closest to where you sat. “I’m curious. Can’t a guy be curious as to why a broad suddenly decides to give you the cold shoulder?”
“I warned you,” Billy merely shrugged.
“A broad?” You growled. “Get fucked, Macher.”
“What is your issue?” Stu reiterated. “I’m serious. You’ve been acting like a—”
“I’m not getting into this with you.” Pushing yourself off of the chair, you stormed passed both men towards the front door. “Enjoy your date, dipshit.”
Stu watched you go in utter confusion but before he could get up to follow you and continue this entire fiasco, Billy smacked him upside the head. “Leave her be, idiot,” he merely said, not tearing his eyes away from The Exorcist. “Let her cool off.”
“Cool off?” Stu asked with a furrowed brow. “Cool off from what? You two got that heated that fast that she stormed out because I came back inside?”
A long, deep, heavy sigh escaped Billy’s lips as he – yet again – had to pause the movie. His eye twitched in irritation as he surveyed the almost dopey look on Stu’s face. “I just want to watch this damned movie and it’s like a fucking soap opera with you two.”
Stu blinked. “What are you talking about?”
“You seriously don’t know, do you?” When all he received was a blank stare from his friend, Billy pinched the bridge of his nose and swore under his breath. “You’re even dumber than you look, you know that?”
»»————-¤————-««
It was a few hours later when there was a casual knock at your front door. Your parents were gone for the night and, as you glanced at the time, your stomach gave a nervous twist. It was nearing midnight and, while it was a Friday and you were by no means tired, just who would be knocking at your door this late at night eluded you.
Debating on whether or not to answer, you remained firmly situated on your couch as you eyed the front door in disdain. Maybe if you waited long enough, they’d move onto the next house and your life could be spared for another night. But, before you could get too much hope on the matter, another loud knock erupted from the door. This time, however, followed by an all too familiar voice.
“Hey dipshit,” Stu’s muffled voice rang out, “open up.”
“The fuck?” You whispered in confusion before making your way to the front door. Sure enough, as you unfastened the lock, there he stood. Stu Macher in all his glory. His eyes were somewhat wild as he silently stood on your front porch, soaking you in from all angles as his Adams apple bobbed up and down in his throat. For the first time in…well, ever, it appeared Stu was at a loss for words.
“Stu, what the hell?” You asked. “My parents could have been home do you know how late it is?”
“Yeah,” he simply said, not moving an inch from where he stood. “But this couldn’t wait.”
You blinked. “What couldn’t wait?” You asked, glancing over his shoulder to see if this was some weird prank that he and Billy thought up. “Come inside, you’re freaking me out.”
“I—” His words seemed to die on his tongue. “I just need to know if it’s true.”
You frowned. “If what’s true?” You racked your brain for a possible answer but came up empty. “Did something come up on your date or something? If it’s about that rumour with me and Matt Sewinski, I promise you that’s not true. The guy’s a creep.”
Stu shook his head but his eyes remained glued to your face, unblinking. “No,” he simply said, “and I didn’t end up going out with Heather.”
You wrinkled your nose. “I thought it was Sarah tonight?”
Stu shut his eyes in sheer annoyance. “Heather, Sarah, whoever the fuck it was,” he opened those blue eyes open again and the raw intensity inside of them made you take a small step back. “I didn’t go.”
You swallowed hard and suddenly felt a wave of nausea overcome you. “Why?” You gulped out.
Stu licked his lips and ran a hand through his hair. He was yet to step foot inside your house and between the maniacal look in his eye and the chilled breeze seeping in through the open door, you shivered absentmindedly. “I talked to Billy.”
Four words. Four tiny little words was all it took to make the room around you spin on its axis. A cold sweat broke out across your chest as you averted your eyes to the wall directly beside his head. Maybe if you didn’t quite look him in the face, you could get out of what was about to become an incredible awkward, painful situation. With your breath trembling, you swallowed again and tried to find your voice. “About what?”
Stu cocked his head to the side. “Y/N,” he warned, “cut the shit.”
Another painful gulp. Your throat felt like it was closing in on you as you stood there facing the boy you’d been in love with for as long as you could remember. You’d often dreamt of this day, the day where he’d finally realize your feelings only to have them reciprocated fully – but when you’d pictured it, Stu looked a lot less crazy than he did looking back at you now. But, even still, there was a glimmer of emotion shining brightly behind those blue eyes that made your breath hitch in your throat.
It made you nervous.
Worse, it made you hopeful.
“Stu,” you tried to find some conviction in your tone, but your nerves got the better of you. “Can you just get inside first? You’re scaring me.” Despite feeling as though you were going to faint, you managed to reach across the divide to yank him inside of your house. Locking the door behind you, you took a few even breaths before turning back around to face him. “What did Billy say?”
Stu ignored your question as he began to pace around your hallway. He was this tall, broad, string bean of a man on a regular day, but the mass of him tonight was all encompassing as he governed your foyer. “Seven years,” he began, his voice slightly shaky. “We’ve known each other for seven fucking years, Y/N. And I’ve hung on your every fucking word for all of six years, eight months and a handful of days, give or take.” He turned on his heel rather abruptly to face you. “But you liked Billy.”
You opened your mouth to respond to the first half of his statement before realization dawned on you. Grimacing, you shook your head. “Billy? He’s like my brother, where the hell did that come from?”
“You act like he hung the fucking moon, Y/N!” He exclaimed, emphatically. “What was I supposed to think?”
“What?” You shook your head in sheer confusion. “Okay, one thing at a time. Billy is one of my best friends. So are you. What’s the problem here?”
“The probl—?” Stu laughed. “The problem? For seven fucking years you’ve been the first person I think of when I wake up and the last person I think of before I go to sleep. And literally every fucking second in between. And this whole goddamn time, I thought you were in love with Billy.”
You were reeling. You weren’t entirely sure if your heart was beating as loud as it appeared to be, but you were sure he could hear it from where he stood a few feet away. “I—” You tried to form a sentence – any sentence – but nothing seemed to suffice. “But the dates?” Were the only words that seemed to spill from your lips. “You were dating – are dating – constantly.”
“Yeah,” he breathed out, “wonder why.”
You weren’t sure when you’d done it or just how your legs managed to carry you back into the living room, but you found yourself falling against the arm of the couch in an almost dream-like state. “What are you trying to say?”
“I’m not trying to say anything,” Stu fussed. “I want to know if what Billy told me was true.” He walked up to you and searched your face. “Do you love me?”
You didn’t answer at first. You couldn’t. Not when it felt as though your lungs were about to explode in your chest. You must have opened your mouth a dozen times over, each time with the promise of a formative sentence, but nothing seemed to suffice.
Suddenly Stu’s hands were on you. Squeezing your thighs with those large hands, he demanded your focus as he swooped down and caught your eye. “I need you to answer me, doll.”
You were so focused in on the overwhelmingly glorious feeling of his hands on your thighs that you forgot to answer. Hell, you forgot to breathe. It wasn’t until you slowly managed to tear your eyes away from his hands to trail up the rest of his body towards that striking face of his, that you found your words.
“You came to my house at midnight. You’ve been the one going on dates like it’s a part time job. You’re the one claiming to have been hanging on my every word for the better half of our friendship so, no, Stu, I’m not saying a fucking word until you tell me what it is that brought you here this late?” You pushed his hands off of your thighs and stood up. “All I’ve done this entire time is sit idly by and watch you carry on like Heffner at the Playboy Mansion. You want me to answer you? Not until I get a—”
Your answer came in the form of a kiss.
On instinct, your hands tangled through his hair as his tongue slid along your bottom lip. He might have been on your shit list at the moment, but fuck he was a good kisser. You’d been thinking about this very moment for as long as you could remember. Longer, even, and god was it everything you thought it would be and more.
His hands were on your face at first, cradling it gently as he backed you into the sofa, and then they were on your neck, holding you close as his tongue massaged against your own. Shivering beneath his touch, you instinctively leaned into his broad chest as the pair of you continue to stand there, kissing like your lives depended on it.
“Stu,” you mumbled against his lips. “What are we doing?”
“Kissing” he rasped out before finding your lips yet again. “Bed or couch?”
Every red flag in your head was going off to stop this and properly talk about what was not so subtly insinuated only seconds prior, but he just felt so good and you’d wanted this so so long. “Bed,” you told him breathlessly, without a second thought.
Stu wasted no time in leading you towards your bedroom, kissing his way down your neck as you stumbled down the narrow hallway. Obviously losing his patience about halfway through, he pushed you up against the wall and trailed sloppy kisses down your jaw and neck. “I love you, if that wasn’t obvious.” He breathed out. “Like, a lot.”
His words struck you blind. Ever the dutiful distraction, however, Stu’s hand trailed down your sweatshirt before settling on the waistband of your pajama shorts. Your body reacted to the promise of his hand. Arching into him, you bit your lip and sighed in contentment as his fingers slipped beneath the band. You were already soaked. Your body responded to the man in a way you couldn’t begin to comprehend, and you weren’t sure you wanted to. And as his middle finger slid into your folds, instantly finding your clit, a soft moan escaped your lips.
“Is this the horny part of your brain talking?” You growled, tugging at the ends of his hair so that you had full access to his lips. “Or are you serious?”
“So fucking serious.” He hummed into your mouth. He pinched your clit, garnering a rather surprised hiss to escape from your lips as your entire body lurched forward. Hearing him chuckle, you popped an eye and began to pull his shirt over his head. When you tossed it across the hallway, his eyes met yours. “Do you love me?”
“Yeah, but I have bone to pick with you first,” you chided, doing your best to control your breathing as he quickened his pace on your clit.
He ducked his head down to bite your lip. “Unless it’s this bone,” he ground his hips into you, and you could feel his rock-hard erection even through his jeans. “It can wait.”
You laughed before you could think of stopping yourself. “Jesus Christ, you’re disgusting.”
He was smirking across at you. “You love it.”
Still grinning, you rolled your eyes before your lips took refuge on his neck. Which, as it turned out, was a massive turn-on for Stu Macher. Running your tongue along it and nipping at the sensitive flesh, was getting him incredibly riled up if the bulge in his jeans was any indication. Biting down on the sensitive flesh, the groan it drew out of his mouth was enough to make your already wet pussy clench around his fingers.
“Fuck,” he drew out, sliding the finger that had been assaulting your clit only seconds prior inside of you.
You let out a small moan of your own as you hurriedly got to work on his belt. “Why the fuck wouldn’t you just tell me how you felt?” When you’d managed to practically rip it off of his waist, you wasted no time in unzipping his jeans. His cock sprung free within seconds.
“I thought you liked Billy,” he rasped out gruffly as you began to pump his cock with your hand. “What was I supposed to do?”
You wiggled free from the hand currently down your shorts and dropped to your knees. Looking up at him through your thick eyelashes, you raised your brow. “You could have asked me?” You reminded him, swirling your tongue around the tip of that perfectly girthy cock. The man might have been a pain in the ass but good god he had the assets to make up for it.
Stu braced himself against the wall behind you and threw his head back. Fuck, you were lethal with that mouth of yours. “Hindsight,” he breathed out.
You released his cock with a pop. “You’re an idiot.” Was all you said before getting back to work. With your hand, you circled the base of his dick and took the length of him inside your mouth, swirling your tongue around the tip each time you made your way back up.
He grabbed your hair and gave it a firm pull. “Fuck,” he growled. “Keep going.”
You hummed against his dick, digging your nails into his thigh briefly before looking back up at him. “Or what?” He allowed his forehead to fall against his forearm currently stabilizing him against the wall. You knew you were driving him crazy, but he’d done the same thing to you for the last seven years and you were nothing if not a petty bitch when you wanted to be. “Say it again.”
He furrowed his brow. “Say what?” Realization dawned on him. “Fuck, baby, you keep doing that I’ll put a ring on your finger tomorrow.” Stu’s blue eyes were hungrily taking you in. How you’d managed to stay fully dressed as he stood there with his jeans around his ankles and his cock out was beyond him but, sure enough, that was his reality. “I love you. A lot.”
You dug your nails into his thigh again, and slowly licked up the base of his cock. “Hmm,” you hummed with a nod of your head, releasing it to stand up to your full height. His eyes were pleading with you to finish him off, but as you slinked up the wall and mirrored his hungry gaze, he surprised you by sliding his calloused hand up the side of your neck until it cupped your cheek. You were practically nose-to-nose as he slowly pinned you against the wall and, as he leaned forward and nudged your nose with his, a slow, lazy grin broke out across your face. “I love you, too.”
Slowly, you leaned in and kissed him. Unlike the deliberate make-out session you’d had minutes prior, this kiss was slow and methodical. When you pulled away, you kissed the tip of his nose and nodded towards your bedroom. “Get on the bed.”
Stu’s eyebrows shot up in amusement. “Pushy.”
You gave his dick a tug. “Go.”
He swooped in again and kissed you before haphazardly kicking off his shoes and jeans, punting them across the hallway as he backed you into your bedroom. When you were close enough to your bed, he broke the kiss to peel off your sweatshirt. Throwing it across the room, his hands were back on you within seconds, kneading and massaging your breasts before taking one in his mouth. Expertly, his tongue ran along your nipple before he began to suck and nip at them. Arching into his mouth, you fisted a handful of his hair and groaned as he pulled you in even closer.
“Stu,” you moaned, shutting your eyes momentarily as you allowed yourself to get lost in the feeling of his mouth on your tits. The man truly was a god with his tongue.
But you had a trick up your sleeve. A little payback, if you will. And this, melting into his mouth, was not part of the plan.
Hating yourself, you pushed him away. The back of his knees hit your bed and you watched as he fell back onto the soft mattress with a slight bounce. There was confusion in his stare as he sat there ogling you. “Get over here,” he beckoned, voice low.
Slowly, you shimmied out of your pajama shorts, feeling his eyes on you every step of the way as you stepped out of them and walked towards the bed. Towards him. Sitting himself up, he opened his legs so you could step between them. His hands were slow as they trailed up and down your thighs, hips, and waist before sliding around to your ass. Squeezing and pulling at your cheeks, he pulled you closer and placed a tender kiss to your sternum before craning his neck up to peer up at you.
“I always knew you had a thing for my ass.” You raked your fingers through his hair, pushing it back and away from his forehead as you grinned down at him.
His answer came in the form of another firm squeeze of your ass only rather than stop there, he tugged you closer until you were tumbling onto his lap. You gripped his shoulders as you straddled his lap, subtly grinding your hips so his erection settled between the folds of your pussy, rubbing against your clit.
“Lay down on your stomach,” he uttered. When he noticed your apprehension, he raised a single eyebrow up at you and squeezed again. “Do you trust me?”
You nodded mutely and did as you were told. And, before you knew it, you were sliding off of his lap to lay stomach-down on your bed. You felt the bed shift as Stu crawled towards you but before you could question him on it, you felt his hands slide beneath your hips to pull you up so that your ass was raised in the air.
“What are you—”
Your words died in your throat as you felt his tongue glide along your pussy. Gasping, you nearly buckled forward, but caught yourself on your pillow. You were face down, buried in the comforter and pillows of your bed, but with your hips bent at the level Stu had moved them into, he had full access to both your pussy and your ass. You could feel his fingers kneading into your ass as his lapped up your every fold until settling on your clit. You groaned and buried your face into the pillow as he began to suck your clit. You could hear how wet you were as his mouth imbibed every inch of your pussy.
His name tore out of your throat and your knuckles whitened as you gripped the bedsheets. The veins in your neck swelled with every laboured breath you managed to draw and you found yourself bucking into his mouth as an orgasm rippled through your body. You moaned and groaned and cursed into the bed but Stu’s mouth was relentless. And as he pinched your clit all the while still lapping you up, you all but collapsed. When he was sure you couldn’t take another second of torture, he pulled away and allowed you to collapse onto the bed. Your cheeks were flushed, and your lips were parted as you attempted to catch your breath. With a quiet chuckle, he kissed his way up your spine, grinning against your skin as your legs continued to twitch.
“Can I?” He asked, his cock at the ready.
Nodding, you gasped when you felt him slide inside of you. He bit down on your shoulder as he thrust into you and his quiet moans and unsteady breath was enough to kill you. “Fuck,” he whispered. “You feel so fucking good.”
This was a high unlike any other for Stu. Watching his cock slam into you, watching your ass slap against him with every wild thrust and pump he provided and feeling just how fucking wet you were for him – this was the unattainable high. You were the unattainable high.
He reached around to play with your clit again. He could feel it throbbing between his fingers and, feeling you tremble made him weak. Quickening his pace on your clit and steadying his thrusting to ensure you finished again, Stu bit down on your earlobe. “Come for me, baby.”
Your answer came in the form of another thick, guttural moan as you came undone yet again. He watched you quiver and shake and the vision of it was enough for him to quicken his thrusts. Groaning, his hands fell from your clit to hold your hips as he pounded into you. The sound of your cheeks slapping against him was drawing him closer and closer to one hell of an orgasm and as you let out one last breathy moan, his whole body seemed to erupt in fire.
His breathing was heavy as he came inside of you and the more sensitive his cock got with every thrust, his pace slowed. For a moment, neither of you moved. Instead, he allowed his forehead to fall back against your shoulder before he slowly pulled out.
“If I’d have known that’s what I was missing, we should have had this talk a lot sooner.” You teased, earning a playful smack to your ass from the man. Grinning, you flopped back onto the pillow and stared up at him. He was leaning on one arm as those blue eyes scraped over every inch of your face. You could see the words he wanted to say splayed out across his face and found yourself reaching up to brush his hair back and away from his sweaty forehead.
“Right back at ya,” you smiled.
Fuck, you really were in love with the idiot.

hello travelers! again, thank you for putting up with my inactivity, it’s been hard to write lately haha. anyways, i thought this would be something fun to post and for everyone to enjoy, whether you celebrate Valentine’s Day or not :) (note: this will probably be more fanon than canon so please bear with me, i’ll make it as canon as it can be :’) i also kept this pretty short, so hopefully that’s okay too,, and sorry for this being late haha—i wrote this very late at night so don’t mind any typos you find please)
much love,
~ anemo-chan <3
(The Playable) Genshin Impact Characters on Valentine’s Day (Romantically)
super romantic; gifts you a bouquet of flowers and takes you out to eat at a fancy restaurant/cooks for you.
Diluc
He is nervous. He’s never paid close attention to the countless amount of people who have lined outside the tavern to ask him to be their Valentine, only to be rejected. There was absolutely no way that he would turn to Kaeya for advice, so unfortunately this was something he would have to figure out for himself. He figures that it wouldn’t hurt to go traditional, so that’s what he does; he buys a large bouquet of roses (which he had to get from Donna, seeing that at the hours that he ended work were very late and Flora’s shop was not open at the time—yeah, that was not fun) and presents himself outside your doorway, to which he invites you to join him for a late dinner—which he makes!
Lisa
She leaves a letter on top of your nightstand, paired along with a singular rose. The letter states for you to meet her outside of Good Hunter, where you find her sitting at a table with a candle dimly-lighting up the surroundings. She greets you with a warm smile, gesturing for you to sit down—the two of you enjoy a candle-lit dinner as well as bolognese she specially requested for Sara to make for the two of you to enjoy together why does this remind me so much of Lady and the Tramp,,
Tartaglia
Oh boy. It’s always a fun time spending a holiday with him, seeing that it could go two ways; one, he would be too busy to celebrate it with you on the day of, and he would take you out the day after, or two—have a store’s entire line of merchandise presented to you outside your doorstep, in which a very, very smiley Tartaglia hidden within the pile (after all, he was the best present!) After you’re done moving all of the gifts into your house (it took up the space of your entire living room), he tells you to cover your eyes and follow him. He takes you to one of the most well-known restaurants in Liyue (which currently doesn’t have a name because it is very late here!), and insists that you order whatever you want, and however much you want.
Zhongli
Over the years, he’s witnessed many, many couples celebrate this holiday and every year he’s wished to do the same. He finds the perfect opportunity to do so when Valentine’s Day is around the corner, and boy does he plan it out for the two of you. He’s even made sure to have his wallet on him at all times—it would be extremely rude for you to have to pay if he happened to forget his wallet. He makes sure to stop by to pick up a bouquet of flowers, as well as a bottle of perfume (not in a bad way, just to clarify) from Ying’er’s shop that he recalled you liked. He makes sure to pick you up early from your work place to make sure you made it to your appointment on time; after all, being late to an appointment was similar to breaking a contract, no?
surprises you with homemade sweets.
Fischl
Oh, she is so nervous—of course, she doesn’t show this. The entire week, she spent researching recipes to create a special batch of chocolate-dipped strawberries just for you—she even sent Oz to the nearby farms to “borrow” the freshest strawberries for the treat (the farmers were too scared to confront the talking bird who “borrowed” their strawberries, so luckily they got away with it). She dips them in a purple-colored chocolate (because what other color would she use, really?) and drizzles on a dark-chocolate syrup to top it off. She’s too shy to actually give it to you herself though, so she has Oz drop it off for her.
Ganyu
Even though she’s quite busy, she’s somehow found time to whip up a special batch of chocolate just for you! She shapes them into Glaze Lilies (which she found quite hard, which is why there are so few of them) and presents them to you in a neatly-sealed box. She’s quite modest when your eyes widen and tell her it’s the best chocolate you have ever eaten, claiming that she only followed a recipe, when she really made it from scratch.
Keqing
Like Ganyu, you have no idea how she finds time to create a perfect array of chocolates, which she made herself! However, with her tightly-packed schedule, she has to drop it off at your house in advance, to which you accept happily. She tried to decorate them with designs of cartoon-versions of your faces, but they’re a bit...messy. Nonetheless, they’re tasty, and to her relief, you enjoy them.
Mona
Somehow, she’s managed to scrape up enough mora to buy you a necklace; yes, a necklace, and a real one at that—none of that fake, costume jewelry stuff! She even added a pendant shaped like star, just so you could be reminded of her whenever you fiddled with it or even glanced at it. She’s quite flustered when she gives it to you, ignoring the way you ask how she managed to save this much mora to be able to buy something like this, changing the subject on how you should never-ever take it off (because it looks great on you.)
Noelle
One word: pancakes. (Have you seen the ones she makes for her special dishes? They’re frigging amazing) As a dutiful maid should, she wakes up especially early to prepare a homemade breakfast just for you, to which she serves to you just as your wake up in bed. The fluffy stack of pancakes are decorated with fruits cut up in heart-shapes, as well the words, “Happy Valentine’s Day, Y/N”, written neatly with chocolate syrup—it’s quite a sight to see, to be honest, and utterly delicious. Lucky you!
Xiangling
The day before, she tells you to meet her at the restaurant around noon. When you arrive, the restaurant is adorned with Valentine decorations, as well as a terrifying amount of food; she insists that she only made it for you, so you better eat up! Before she can show you the other dishes, the restaurant is suddenly filled with a strong, bitter smell—something burning. With a yelp, she runs into the kitchen, coming out a few minutes later with a tray of half-scorched cupcakes, their Gouba-shapes adorned with...a lot of burn marks. Oh well, it’s the thought that counts, doesn’t it?
buys/makes a present for you.
Albedo
Without your knowledge, Albedo has been creating a collection of artworks throughout all the time you had spent together. The pieces include portraits of you, portraits of you and him (sucrose helped with this), as well as just random sketches of the little things that remind him of you, such as the bare, snowy-white terrain where the two of you first met, as well as its flora and fauna. If you request it, he’ll even make the painting come alive (literally), and the two of you run to Sucrose’s dwelling, who is very shocked to see the pair of you running from a Frosted Lawachurl when she peered out her window to see if she could pinpoint the sounds of distant screaming.
Amber
Is there anything better than a matching set of wind gliders? Not only that—they were homemade! She spent the last couple of weeks putting together a pair of gliders for the two of you, customizing them to your tastes (which she nailed!) She quite literally drags you to the nearest hill to test them out, and the two of you end up challenging each other on who can get back to the Knights of Farvonius Headquarters the fastest—spoiler alert: she did.
Barbara
Oh, she would make the cutest card for you—the envelope is decorated with cute stickers (some of them even had her face on it; there’s nothing like promoting merchandise, am i right? jkjks) She also pairs it off with a box of chocolates that she bought from Sara—however, what she didn’t know was that in the box was a special-edition spicy chocolate truffle. With your luck, that was the first one you chose—and boy, were you met a surprise (it was so bad that you were begging Barbara to use her Vision on you, which she refused of course). Fun times.
Chongyun
He’s real sweet. After his expeditions and commissions, he opens the freezer (yes he keeps them in there, don’t judge him) to an array of ice sculptures, shapes varying from flowers, hearts, and such—although it’s quite the simple gift, he’s put a lot of effort into them, even putting in the extra effort to cast a spell to make sure they would not melt; it’s all worth though, when he sees the absolutely giddy expression on your face, and the look of pure awe as you pick one up and study it closely, admiring all of the details and work that’s he put in.
Ningguang
She sends out informants to find out what you like, whether it be something that your gaze settled on for too long or something you’ve mentioned while talking to her—on the day of, you open your door to a mountain of gifts, with Ningguang herself peering out from behind it with a calm smile and a wave (which was the opposite of your reaction, because who has that much mora to purchase all of these gifts?!?)
Razor
He doesn’t have a clue on what the holiday until Lisa asks him if he’s planned something for the two of you during one of his lessons. When he shakes his head no, Lisa suggests that he make you something, to which he sets out on an adventure to do, looking for flowers and flower stems to weave into a pair of matching bracelets—they’re not the prettiest, but he is pretty proud of it; after all, it was his first time making something like that. He’s quite nervous to present it to you, afraid that you might not like it, but all feelings of worry melt away when you slide it on with a huge smile on your face, insisting that he wears his too.
Sucrose
At first, she considers gifting you a present that she created herself; of course, with her work being alchemy, she isn’t sure if that would be the safest option, despite being talented herself. And so, she resorts to buying a present for you—she is very picky with the present though, insisting that it should be perfect since she could not make one herself. She even consults Albedo when selecting some of the presents (he doesn’t help her unfortunately; he believes that she should figure it out herself haha). Like Razor, she’s quite nervous to give it to you, but lets out a huge sigh of relief as you thank her happily for the gift, wiping a bead of sweat from across her forehead (sucrose bby anything you give us would be perfect,,)
whisks you away somewhere sentimental, where the two of you can enjoy a special date.
Beidou
It’s ungodly early in the morning when Beidou presents herself in front of your doorstep, announcing that you’ll be joining her and the crew on a special ride. She tugs you along beside her until you reach the harbor, where you are met with the sight of her ship adorned with streamers and banners, varying between shades of pink and red. Onboard, there is a table filled with goodies the crew collected and made, and boy do they look delicious. The group sets out to sea, and you take your place next to the captain, who even lets you steer the boat (momentarily, at least.)
Bennett
He takes you to meet his dads; yes, yes—he knows that it’s not the most romantic thing to do on a day dedicated to lovers, but he figures it’s just as important. Besides, they’ve been asking about you for quite a while—they even set up a small party within the Adventurer’s Guild, with the help of Bennett, of course. You spend the day listening to their old adventuring stories, as well as bits from Bennett’s childhood (poor boy is flustered from all the information his dads are spilling, but he’s still happy either way; after all, he’s with the most important people to him.)
Kaeya
He quite literally kidnaps you; one second you’re walking in the streets of Mondstadt on your way to work when suddenly someone grabs you by the waist and pulls you into an alley way (that sounds so creepy but i swear he means it in a good way). He only chuckles and shields himself with his arms as you punch him lightly, retorting that he scared you. He doesn’t care that the two of you have an overwhelming amount of work to do—after all, Valentine’s Day only comes once a year, right? Surprisingly, he doesn’t take you the tavern, but instead...Dawn Winery! Diluc received quite the surprise when he is met with the two of you standing outside his gates, with Kaeya requesting a wine/grape juice taste-testing. Yeah...you guys didn’t get any of that, but you did manage to snag a couple of grapes on your way out! Good for you!
Venti
You wake up in your bed, opening your eyes to see a very-smiley Venti laying beside you, chin propped up against his hand as he watches you yawn sleepily as you force yourself out of bed. You’re then presented with a handpicked-bouquet of Ceceilias, the freshest of the bunch, if he may add. You barely have time to thank him before he hoists you up in his arms and out of your dwelling, gliding over the city of Mondstadt as he whisks you away to Starsnatch Cliff, where he’s prepared a special performance just for you (and no, you don’t need to pay.)
Xingqiu
While he’s not the most romantic, he does have a clue on what people look for on Valentine’s Day; after all, that’s what cheesy-romance novels were for, right? Unbeknownst to you, he takes you on a date very similar to the one the main characters in his favorite novels partook in—and you don’t find out until you catch him peeking into the pages while you weren’t (you were) looking. Again, it’s the thought that counts—
doesn’t celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Jean
Sadly, she probably forgets about the holiday. She’s too busy holed-up in her office to notice the couples gathered up in the courtyard, sharing moments with their lover. It’s not until she walks out to take a breather that she notices the commotion—she immediately calls you over, apologizing frantically. Of course, to this you respond that’s it’s okay, but that you would much rather her take the rest of the day off to spend time together, to which she reluctantly agrees.
Xiao
“I do not have time to celebrate silly human traditions like that.” He would say as you bound up to him, exclaiming that it’s Valentine’s Day, the day where you can give sweets to your loved ones, and asking if he had someone special in mind to spend it with. He’s irked when your gaze falters and the grip on the object you’re hiding behind your back tightens—he only grows more irked as you mutter to yourself how you’ll give the chocolates you made to someone else. He scoffs loudly, avoiding your gaze as he lays out his hand in front of you to accept the chocolates (just because he doesn’t celebrate the holiday doesn’t mean he can’t get jealous!)

I’ll take the lot
FanFic Friday are starting to feel more like FanFic Mondays... sorry for the delays! Your picture inspired stuff @rebelwrites, and apparently, a lot of stuff..!! So here’s a whole lot of Bishop fluff thrown at all of you! If you wanna be added to the taglist, please holler, I’ll be glad to!
Warnings : Pet names are female (Querida, Reina) but no other descriptions made, slight language warning, Angel’s still a douchebag, sorry, it’s a theme I guess..!
Gif credits to gif maker, Mayans credit to Mayans makers
- So, Querida, what do you think?
- This is absolutely beautiful, Obispo, I just think it’s really funny that out of everywhere in the State you could’ve chosen, you went for San Luis Obispo County, you answered!
- Ahh come on Querida, I chose the Moonstone Beach not Obispo County, don’t laugh!!! I chose this place because I’ve heard you get to see the most beautiful sunsets in the country, here.
- Have you gotten soft, Presidente? you asked, smirking.
- No I haven’t, he coughed slightly and then you heard him mumble : it’s just really hard to find a place more beautiful than you…
You smiled to yourself, the man was pretty damn near perfect. You’ve had ups and downs, things had gotten crazy with the club then had calmed down, but whatever was going on around, your beautiful boyfriend made sure to spend time with you, to take you out and to go away with you. He never once put you aside deliberately and always included you in every aspect of his life. Crazy lives you two were living, but you wouldn’t have changed it for the world.
- I love you, Obispo, and I love this place, you smiled.
He took your hands in his and smiled, looking out in the distance. He looked deep in thought but when didn’t he? You enjoyed the breeze coming from the ocean as you kept looking at the horizon. He was right, this place was absolutely breathtaking. You knew he had something on his mind because he kept fidgeting with his fingers and yours, while holding hands. You never wanted to pry and sometimes, things were just better the less you knew, but after a while in absolute silence, you got a little bit nervous.
- Is everything ok, Cariño ?
He almost jumped out of his skin at the sound of your voice. Very, very deep in thoughts, indeed.
- I’m sorry Querida, I spaced out.
- Yeah, I noticed… Anything you wanna talk about? you tried.
- Actually, yeah, I think I should. Looks like the perfect time to…
His words trailed off when the both of you heard :
- HEY PREZ!
- You’ve GOT to be kidding me…
You looked over Bishop’s shoulder only to see the Reyes brothers coming your way, rapidly. Angel having cotton candy in his hands, EZ carrying his childish smile around like a trophy for the best brushed teeth in the entire universe. Bishop looked annoyed to no end.
- Hey Prez, what a pleasure! Out of everyplace you could’ve gone to for your day off, we come to the same one! Angel said, excited by the coincidence and clearly not reading the room.
- Out of Every. Goddamn. Places. Bishop mumbles.
The Reyes brothers invite the two of you to spend the rest of the evening together and you both accept, even though you feel like Bishop is long gone in his head again. Although you loved Abbott and Costello to absolutely no end, you were almost mad at the unexpected meet.
*****************************************************************************************************
It both always bothered you and never did, the fact that, as Presidente, Obispo rarely had time off. You managed with the time you had, the evenings when he left early, the lazy Sundays, he would allow himself, sometimes, the lunches he’d bring at your job so you could eat together. Therefore, it took a couple of weeks until he got a full weekend off. You had decided to go North a little and settle for a more deserted destination, near the Joshua Tree National Park. You knew, for a fact, that whatever Bishop wanted and felt ready to share with you hadn’t left his thoughts yet. You had seen the wrinkles on his forehead, the ones he only got when he was deeply worried about something. It stuck from the second he got interrupted by the impossible comedic duo up until you settled in your room, feet away from the park.
- Wow, you’re going all out, Obispo! you teased.
- Well, I try to make it right to mi Reina.
- You know you don’t have to pull all the stops, like this! I’m very happy at the littlest things, you know that!
- I do, he said, pulling you in his arms, but I really want this to be perfect, just like you, he whispered in you ear.
The day went on nicely, you brought yourself a picnic to enjoy while enjoying the beauty and peace of the park. Everything was going absolutely perfectly. Towards the evening, Bishop pushed an outfit towards you, something a little more fancy than you had thought but, what the hell, if your man wanted you wearing that outfit, you’d obliged, especially since the frown had seem to disappear along the day. You walked out of the bathroom and saw Obispo look at you, almost stunned, something very deer-in-the-middle-of-traffic, like. You could’ve almost sworn you saw the man blush. But he turned his head, making sure he had everything, mumbling how gorgeous you were, almost more to himself than to you. You saw him fumble with the hotel key, his keys, his wallet, and stumbled on his own feet. He looked like a baby animal just learning to deal with it’s legs. You laughed at his sudden awkwardness.
- You ok there, El Presidente? you asked, a smirk stapled on our face.
- I’m fine, of course, yes, I’m fine. You look stunning, Querida, did I tell you?
- Not directly, but the fact you don’t remember how to use your legs correctly said it for you… you laughed. Come here.
You pulled him towards you and made him face you.
- Will you finally tell me what’s going on with you? You’ve been so.. distant, in your head, lately.
- Yeah, I will, I promise.
- Tonight?
- Tonight, he agreed.
You left, hand in hand, and walked to a car Obispo had ordered to take you to a gorgeous restaurant, which had a beautiful terrace. You sat at your table and ordered drinks. Obispo kept your hand in his at all time. You could sense he was ready to talk about whatever’s been troubling him over the past couple of weeks.
- So, Querida, after everything we’ve been through, you know, it’s nice to be able to get away, like this, just us, he said, running his thumb on the top of your hand.
- It’s.. you started.
- PRIMO! Alvarez said, just walking in with his wife and coming towards you. What are the odds, my man?
- I’d say pretty good, lately… Bishop stated.
Alvarez and his wife took a seat at the table next to you and chatted you guys all night. You came back very late at the hotel and knew the moment was gone. Again. Early the next morning, Bishop received a phone call from Taza and you guys had to cut your trip short, putting an axe, once again, on that long overdue conversation.
*****************************************************************************************************
You got woken up by Obispo travelling back and forth across the room, grabbing clothes and throwing them in a duffle bag.
- You going on a run? you asked him, surprised as he hadn’t told you about it.
- No, we are, he answered.
- I’m sorry, who?
- You and me. We’re going away. Right now.
- But…
- No buts, Querida, let’s go!
The two of you left, at the crack of dawn, on his motorcycle, for somewhere only he knew. You drove for a while and stopped along the beach, where a beautiful boardwalk pushed into the ocean. Bishop took your hand in his and pulled you towards the furthest part of the walk, the one that pushed the furthest into the great Blue. You leaned on the railway to look further into the sea. The lightning of the morning sun making the water look like it was filled with diamonds. Everything about the scenery was absolutely breathtaking.
- Bish, what are we doing here? you asked, blown away.
- I wanted to find someplace special, since I think we’re long overdue to talk, you and me, he said.
- You didn’t have to kidnap me, you know, you said, smirk on display on your features.
- Pff, if I’d kidnapped you, you’d know, trust me, he winked.
You looked at the sea a little more and turned fully around to give your full attention to the man in front of you.
- So, Querida, I’ve been so lucky to have you stand by me through the years, you’ve been nothing but my…
- Bish, HEY, BISH!
- You’re FUCKING KIDDING ME. WHAT? Obispo asked, turning towards the voice. There stood half the Mayans. Gilly, Coco, Angel and EZ, on their motorcycles.
- What are you doing here, Prez, Gilly asked, isn’t there Templo in an hour?
- Yeah, I fell off that girl’s bed to be there in time, why are you here ? Angel asked.
- Do you even remember her name? EZ asked his brother.
- I don’t think she ever told me, Angel said smugly.
- WILL YOU JUST FUCKING SHUT UP? CAN’T A MAN ASK HIS GIRLFRIEND TO MARRY HIM, ROMANTICALLY, WITHOUT BEING INTERRUPTED EVERY SINGLE TIME? Bishop screamed at his brothers.
Then fell silence. The boys looked sheepishly at the pavement, gathering up excuses to run away as fast and far as they could. You looked absolutely stunned. Bishop looked enraged.
- Is that… Is it… It that what’s been bothering you, lately? you asked, wild eyed, tears welling up quickly to blur your vision.
Obispo just then realized your presence and how badly it went. He’d been trying to find a way, a place, a setting, everything to make sure it was the most romantic engagement, for his Reina and it ended being the worst possible way.
- It wasn’t bothering me… I just… he sighed deeply, I really wanted this to be perfect, you know.
- I didn’t choose you because you’re perfect, Obispo. I chose you because you’re you.
- Hopefully you also chose me because of my impatience and the fact I cannot, for the life of me, get rid of these punkasses.
- Like I said, I chose you because you’re you. And if you come with impatience, tantrums and those douchebags, then I’ll take the lot.
- Are you saying yes? Obispo asked, hopeful.
- Por supuesto, diciendo que si, mi Amor!!
Bishop took you in his strong arms and pulled you to his chest. The kiss you got was quite possibly the most passionate you’ve ever shared. The boys clapped and cheered, Gilly wolfwhistled and got a death stare from Bishop, therefore stopped immediately.
- Hey, just for the record, I never said I pulled tantrums, Bishop said, squinting at you.
- I said what I said, you winked as you felt him push the ring on your finger, squeezing your hand in his, lovingly.

____________________________
Doh Kyungsoo had dragged his feet up the endless flight of stairs seeking solitude...not drama.
A stranger, just one misstep away from a fatal fall, was the last thing he’d expected to find on the rooftop of Seoul’s Park Hyatt at three in the morning. He slipped the rooftop access key card (that he’d borrowed from the security guard in exchange for a 50,000 won bill) in the back pocket of his trousers while simultaneously dwelling on the depths of the rot of corruption. He had half a mind to turn away and forget that he’d just seen someone contemplating their existence on the ledge of a highrise but there was something about you that rooted him to the spot. Dressed in fine evening wear, you’d stretched your arms out like wings as you looked up at the vast expanse of midnight blue, the wind kissing your wild, waist length hair. From his standpoint, you looked oddly at peace.
Kyungsoo had never been an idealist or a victim of the white knight syndrome. He wasn’t one to delve into the ethical and philosophical conundrums for most things in life because to him it was all just a waste of time. Seeing you on the parapet filled him with neither sympathy nor worry. It was your life after all and with it you could do whatever you deemed fit as long as you weren’t inconveniencing others. Scratch that.
As long as you weren’t inconveniencing him.
But right now, unbeknownst to you, you were inconveniencing Seoul’s hottest financial broker, Doh Kyungsoo.
He wasn’t invisible to the hotel’s security cameras and being labelled suspect in an abetment to suicide investigation wasn't exactly what he was looking for after the day he’d had. Albeit inebriated and heavy-eyed, he could effectively calculate the logistics involved in pulling you off the ledge with the cacophony of the omnipresent Seoul traffic drowning out the sound of his footsteps.
Bracing himself for superficial bruises from the impact of falling to the right side of the precipice with the weight of an adult human pressing down on his 173 cm high frame, he took off his custom tailored blazer (that had been flown in from Vietnam especially for that evening) and folded it in half, making sure that the lapels touched. Some habits are hard to shake. He put the blazer on the ground as a makeshift floorcloth for the rest of his belongings. With his back facing you, he allowed himself a moment's peace as he loosened his tie, languidly rolled the sleeves of his pristine white dress shirt up to his elbows, freed himself off the Rolex Cellini on his left wrist, his Bottega Veneta fine leather wallet, and the cursed Tiffany Blue Box that he simply couldn’t bear to look at anymore and neatly placed them all on the blazer.
Letting out a deep exhale, he muttered curses under his breath before turning to your silhouette only to find it...gone.
Kyungsoo’s eyes narrowed and then immediately grew into large circles as he grappled with the shocking turn of events. An inexplicable heaviness bloomed in his chest and he felt sick to the stomach which, in a state of denial, he chalked up to the dubious mixture of spirits he’d downed not too long ago.
Before he could find his bearings and figure out what to do next, a light tap on his shoulder made him jump. His jaw went slack and his heart threatened to leap out of his chest to find you casually smiling at him. In that moment, he wanted nothing more than to climb onto the very same ledge and scream into the void but he simply stood there, mouth agape, wanting to say a million things but he could hardly muster a peep.
Reading the confusion painted across his sharp, well defined features, you uttered an unsure, “Hi?”
“I thought you’d jumped,” he whispered, head tilted to the side, his compelling, bloodshot eyes locked with yours.
“Says someone who’s unusually jumpy,” you jested, but your expression immediately turned solemn when you caught the tremble in his right hand. “Are you on something?”
There came about a sudden shift in his aura. Hands on hips, he deadpanned, “Why? Are you with the cops?”
“No, don’t worry,” you let out a soft chuckle and he started scrambling for his things, “How long have you been standing here?”
Hastily stuffing everything into the pocket of his well fitted trousers, he muttered something along the lines of ‘Chaos. Just chaos everywhere!’
Leaning into his frame, you quipped, “What’s that?”
Alarmed and goggle-eyed, he snapped, “Nevermind,” and turned towards the exit.
“Hey! You seem to have forgotten something!” You called out after him upon finding his blazer on the ground, the silken sheen of it reflecting a myriad of citylights.
No answer.
“I wasn’t going to jump!” You yodelled childishly but the man was long gone.

Seven Hours Earlier
“Natasha -” Kyungsoo huffed.
The feather light Tiffany 1873 Blue Box in his left hand had suddenly started to feel like a giant boulder weighing down on his entire being. The sparkle of the uncut diamond reflected in his misty eyes as her uncharacteristically stoic silence left him struggling for words. He searched Natasha’s face for a hint of mischief...he so desperately wished for her to crack a sly smile and pull him in for a kiss and whisper ‘Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes!’ against his lips like they do in the movies, that he’d almost started to imagine it. It had to have been some sort of an ugly prank.
What reason does she have to turn me down? he wondered.
Kyungsoo breached the uncomfortable spell of silence with a desperate plea, “Say something!” the throbbing in his head intensifying by the second.
Did these three years mean nothing to you? What did I do wrong? Do you hate the ring? Is this not the kind of proposal you wished for? Is it because I left the bathroom lights on all night? Or is it because I forgot to wish your mother on her birthday? A flurry of questions spawned in Kyungsoo’s mind only to die at the tip of his tongue.
“I’m sorry, Kyungsoo, but I can’t do this. I just -” Natasha spoke finally. Gingerly shifting the weight of the box onto the ebony restaurant table, she slammed it shut as if the ring had been eyeing her lecherously.
Meeting Kyungsoo’s gaze almost defiantly, she declared, “Kyungsoo, I don’t think that I could be the kind of wife that would make you happy and I don’t think you could make me happy either.”

Two Weeks Later
Setting your eyes on that distinct pair of Dumbo ears, you excitedly weaved through the peak hour coffee shop crowd with an Iced Americano held firmly in one hand. Slamming the beverage down on the table, you engulfed his giant frame in a back hug and squealed, “Park Chanyeol!”
His wide eyes turned into even bigger brown circles and his mouth rounded into an ‘o’ in surprise. Grinning, he got off the uncomfortably tiny coffee shop chair and wordlessly pulled you in for what was famously known in Uni as a ‘Classic Chanyeol Hug’. You didn’t know how much you missed it until you felt your worries immediately dissipate into nothingness.
He hugged you a little tighter the moment you started to pull away before taking your hands in his and stooping down to your eye level. “Shifu, my love! You’re back in Seoul?!” Chanyeol exclaimed with all the love in the world sparking in the depths of his dark eyes.
Even after all this time, it felt as if nothing had changed….you’d suddenly been whizzed into a not-so-distant ‘Gothic architecture and coffee shops’ past in which a cotton candy haired boy, dressed in a pair of freshly ironed beige chinos and a plain white tee, smiles his sweetest smile simply at the sight of you. Chanyeol always felt like home. Funnily enough, even more so at the moment.
Giving him a good natured smile, you nodded in response, albeit cringing a little on the inside. Having been President of the martial arts club back in the days, you got stuck with an ingenious moniker “Shifu” which you clearly couldn’t shake off even after half a decade since graduation. You did a double take when your gaze veered to acknowledge the person seated opposite Chanyeol who, dressed in an ivory business suit, almost blended into the background. Just the way you could spot Chanyeol’s ears from a million miles away, you could recognize those eyes anywhere and right now they were shooting daggers at you.
“OH! Hi!”
His response to your greeting was a curt nod accompanying a vague hand movement, something between a hi and a failed facepalm.
At this Chanyeol guffawed, “You two know each other?”, his keen gaze rapidly flitting between the two of you.
“Yes -”
“No -”
While gesturing you to take a seat at their table, Chanyeol slumped into his chair and pursued the conversation in a voice laced with amusement, “So which is it?”
You gave your head a little shake, signalling Chanyeol to drop the topic since his friend had made his apprehension quite evident with an unambiguous “No” when asked if he knew you. Which...wasn’t entirely untrue. Even though Chanyeol now seemed to be on the same page as you, for good measure, you deflected his question with a polite, “I hope I’m not interrupting anything?”
“Absolutely not!” Chanyeol assured, deftly steering the conversation back to you, “We could actually use your advice on something but first, Shifu, look at you! How long has it been? Five years?”
“Five years!”
“Wahhh! What brings you back to Seoul?”
With a wistful smile, you answered, “Appa passed away in April...”
“Oh, I’m- I’m so sorry -” stuttered Chanyeol, immediately placing his hand on your arm and giving it a light squeeze. From the corner of your eye you noticed Chanyeol’s friend chewing on his bottom lip and listening to this exchange with rapt attention.
“No, no, it’s erm...we’re doing okay now, I guess-”
It had been two and a half months but every time you talked about it, a black hole burgeoned right in the middle of your chest, sucking you within itself and rendering you breathless. You still hadn’t picked up the art of condoling the “condoler”. What were you even supposed to say to the faultless “I’m sorry”? Who came up with condolence jargon, anyway?
“I’m sorry we haven’t been in touch - ”
“Oh, please. You know how it is after Uni, isn’t it,” you turned to Chanyeol’s friend to make him feel a little less left out, “what did you say your name was?”
“I didn’t,” he answered in a clipped tone while mindlessly scrolling through his phone.
“Yah!” Chanyeol chastised him with a deathly glare before continuing with an impish smile, “He’s Doh Kyungsoo.”
“Ah! So he’s Doh Kyungsoo! I’ve heard a great deal about you!” Your enthusiasm invoked a quick cursory smile from him. Doh Kyungsoo had apparently made it his life’s mission to make this unexpected rendezvous as icky as possible, leaving you to wonder if Chanyeol had ever discussed your brief relationship with him. Ex-girlfriend meets best friend? Not an ideal scenario in any part of the world.
Chanyeol and you had gone out for a couple of weeks towards the end of freshman year until you both realized that you were much better off as friends. Despite being joined at the hip in Uni, the two of you had gone your separate ways after post-grad. While he returned to Seoul to join the family business, you’d stayed back in Milan to explore job opportunities. Messages and phone calls became few and far between and it wasn’t long before both of you had completely lost touch with each other.
And it wasn’t until you met him again that you realized how desperately you needed a friend considering everything that had been going on in your life. You selfishly wished for Kyungsoo to leave you two to catch up on all these years spent apart but clearly that was a lot to ask considering how tacitly territorial he seemed to be getting about Chanyeol.
“So what was it that you wanted to talk about?” you asked in another feeble attempt to water down the rancour.
Chanyeol’s features flared into a bashful smile but the moment he opened his mouth to speak, Kyungsoo held a hand up to him and insisted, “Allow me to spare you the blushes,” before starting to explain the situation in an uncharacteristically eager tone, “This idiot is getting married in three months -”
Boisterously thumping Chanyeol’s back, you showered him with congratulations which he accepted with a shy ‘thank you.’
Kyungsoo continued, “- and we have a road trip planned for next month. As per the pact -”
Head tilted to the side, you shot, “What pact?”
“Some stupid pact that I have no memory of - ”
“That you conveniently have no memory of!” interrupted a salty Chanyeol.
Kyungsoo grimaced. Rubbing the corner of his eye, he continued with a heavy sigh, “It was supposed to be the three of us...Chanyeol, me, and our school friend Yixing.”
“Oh, okay?”
“So Yixing fell off a tractor and broke his back -”
“Oh, my gosh!” You exclaimed.
Kyungsoo’s mouth fell open. “I wasn’t there but I’d bet my ass that’s exactly what he said at the time.”
“What do you mean?”
“Nothing.”
“Wait, wait, slow down, why- how- a tractor?”
“He quit his CEO position to become a full time….farmer,” deadpanned Kyungsoo as if it was the stupidest thing Yixing could’ve done which rubbed you up the wrong way and coloured your otherwise neutral expression.
“He basically did what Kyungsoo doesn’t have the balls to do,” quipped Chanyeol, lips stretched into a gremlin-like grin. Kyungsoo returned his jibe with a strike to his arm causing him to let out a dramatic wail thus inviting the attention of everyone around you.
But none of it deterred Kyungsoo. He continued nonchalantly as if presenting a well crafted business proposal, “Since one of us is unavailable it only makes sense to postpone the trip and that’s exactly what I’ve been asking Chanyeol to do but he just won’t listen.”
“You’re getting married in three months and you’re taking this road trip next month. Will you be left with enough time for wedding planning?” you reasoned with Chanyeol, well aware of the kind of family he belonged to and the kind of weddings these families planned.
“Mr. Park here was way too eager,” Kyungsoo butted in.
“Shut up, Kyungsoo!”
“Wahhh you must really love her ~ ,” you sang, moon-eyed.
“Clearly. He couldn’t even wait for the rest of us to finish singing the birthday song for his Eomma.”
“What?”
“Yeah! He popped the question to Aera right in the middle of it.”
“WHAT!”
“That’s a story for another day,” replied Chanyeol in an atypically calm tone, “but you’re right, Shifu, it’s not enough time and that’s why I’ve been asking this idiot to just -”
“All reservations are for three. It logistically makes more sense to reschedule,” declared Kyungsoo with a hint of finality in his tone.
It didn’t. It definitely didn’t make more sense to reschedule but as gullible as Chanyeol was, he said nothing to counter Kyungsoo’s illogical argument.
“Are you sure your friend Yixing would be okay with it, Yeollie? I’m sure you can wait for him to get better and -”
Firmly setting his jaw, Chanyeol looked you square in the eyes and stated, “It's now or never.”
Kyungsoo stole a glance at you and cleared his throat, hesitance betraying his voice when he spoke again, “Chanyeollah, you’re only getting married stop talking like you’re terminally ill.”
Chanyeol's expression softened to convey an implicit plea causing you to tweak your suggestion, “The two of you can still go? I’m sure Yixing won’t mind.”
But Chanyeol hit you with an unexpected proposal. He asked, “Do you want to come?”, in a tone that was way too serious for a road trip.
“What? No!”
“Why not? You’re here and - “
“- and Yixing’s not,” interrupted Kyungsoo.
Ignoring the sarcasm in Kyungsoo’s voice, you turned Chanyeol down gently, “No, Yeol, it’s just- it doesn’t make sense, bub.”
“Why not? We leave in a month and that’s plenty of time to get all your travel docs in order -”
“Travel docs? You mean….insurance?” You asked hesitantly.
“Yeah! Insurance...you won’t need a visa, though.”
“Visa? Yeah, obviously I won’t be needing a visa. Why would I need a visa for a road trip?”
Chanyeol slapped his forehead and wondered aloud, “Oh, shoot! We didn’t tell her, did we?”
Kyungsoo gave his head a little shake, prompting you to ask, “Tell me what?”
“It’s a road trip through uhhh northeastern Spain -”
Chanyeol’s elaborate account of the itinerary was drowned in the whirlpool of emotions that erupted within you at the mention of the country. That part of your life you had locked away in the deepest, darkest corners of your consciousness now stared you straight in the eyes, forcing you to acknowledge a reality far too jarring for your fragile state of mind. You took a sip of your long forgotten beverage to centre yourself but it didn’t take a genius to know that something was up.
Placing a hand on your head, he asked softly, “What is it, Shifu? I understand if you can’t leave Eomma alone at this point...”
“It’s not Eomma,” you took another sip of the drink to fight the lump in your throat, “Eomma is - Eomma is in Bucheon, visiting her sister. For I don’t know how long but...long.”
“Is it work?” contributed Kyungsoo.
“I quit my job,” you answered and he looked at you as if you, a total stranger, had just asked him his body count.
Chanyeol took your hand in his and reiterated, “Come, then? You need this.”
Your gaze bounced between the two men who wore the exact same expression in expectation of two entirely different answers. And whatever you chose to say next, you were sure to disappoint one of them.
Eyes unfocussed, a deafening ringing echoing in your ears, you declared softly, “I need this,” with a million unpleasant scenarios running through your head, making you sick to the stomach.
Chanyeol pulled you in for a bear hug. Kyungsoo rolled his eyes and let out a deep, disappointed sigh.

Smut section will be in the second part.
Summary: Following one of your shifts at the bar, you end up facing a little trouble. Who knew Dabi was the sentimental type.
Part. 2
11:23 PM 27th April
You weaved in and out of the mindless bodies dancing, sweat lingering with the humidity of the club. Empty glasses and bottles were strung all over the tables, you collected as many as possible and balanced them on a tray. You emerged back behind the bar, the glasses being placed on the counter ready to be put through the wash. You look to your left to find Naomi, one of your collegues, flirting with one of the customers. She was always the center of attention, not that I could say I minded.
“Another round of beer for booth 4" You hear from behind you. You look back at Naomi who was completely unfazed by what your boss had just called out to you.
"I'll cover it!" You sighed, and wiped down the tray, setting down the drinks. You stopped at the booth and placed down the items carefully. Under the low light, you could make out the group of four men around their mid to late forties. However, the one that stood out to you the most was the bald man nearest to you. There wasn't anything special about him, it must have been the way the light bounce of his hairless head, you thought until you noticed the way he smirked made him seem like an asshole. Counting by the number of glasses they had on their table, you noticed they should have been cut off hours ago. You leant across the table to collect a few of the empty glasses, as the bald man's gaze followed you, locking onto you breasts.
"Have I got something on my chest... sir?" You clench your teeth in frustration on your final word.
"Yeah... my eyes" His comment was followed with a wink. You purse your lips and clench your jaw, in attempt to brush off his comment.
‘The things I’d love to do to that sweet body of yours. God, I think I’m getting hard just thinking about it!’
You would have thought that these things wouldn't get to you by now, but they still make your skin crawl. You straighten yourself up and walk away with the tray half full.
‘I do not get paid enough for this shit!’ you think to yourself.
You went back behind the bar, your tray thrown down, empty bottles scattered the side. "What did those glasses ever do to you, you OK?" Naomi walked over to you, a bottle top being played with in her hands.
"Yeah, just one of those nights I think. Nothing that I can't handle, though" You smiled bleakly at her, she didn’t buy it.
“Look, Y/N - “
"Can I get a gin and tonic and a shot of vodka?" A voice echoed behind you. You muster up a bright smile, or what is known as your 'customer service face' and turn face them. Your face dropped as soon as you realised who it was.
“What are you doing here, Dabi?” Dabi was lent on the bar, sweat fell from his forehead. He rolled his eyes before taking out his wallet.
"I’m here for a drink, what does it look like?" You bit the inside of your lip, holding your tongue.
“There are thousands of bars, couldn’t you go to one of them?”
“And miss watching you follow my orders? Now why would I do that?” His lips pulled into a smirk. “Why you even working in this shit hole, anyway?” He shouts as you prepared his drinks.
"I've got to pay the bills some how. Not like I can live the ‘criminal life’ with telepathy and my quirk certainly isn’t up to par with putting someone like you in jail. So both villain and hero are off the list" Your voice was spitting with pettiness as you exchanged his drinks for cash.
“I mean you could steal people’s pin codes...” You weren’t sure if he was trying to give you genuine advice or rub in your lack of ability. Your face contorted into an irritated expression, as you resume cleaning the bar.
“Haha. Very funny, nice to see you still think you have that comedic charm!” Your sarcasm didn’t go unnoticed. He lets out a breath of a laugh, it would have been audiable hadn’t it been for the music. "You look like you could use a break" He turns and hints towards the crowd of people dancing.
"Depends what I'm taking a break from... society, work... you? Either one would be preferable right now."
Dabi shakes his head in amusement. "And you’ve clearly still got your sense of humor."
You rolled your eyes. "I'm glad to be of service." You spit as your eyes narrowed. A smile beamed across Dabi’s face before he grabbed his drinks and started off into the crowd. Just as you thought you would finally get some peace, you hear a faint yell coming from the dance floor.
"Hey, Y/N! I’ll meet you after work!" Dabi’s turquoise eyes met yours, as you turned around, a feeble attempt to mask your smile. You didn't reply to his comment as you simply gave him the middle finger. You guys got on in small doses and he wasn't a bad guy, aside from the obvious reasons that he was a high level villain. He definitely knew which buttons to push, especially when it came to you. You went back to your normal routine for the rest of your shift.
02:33 AM 28th April
The night had a chill in the air which hit you as you began to lock the doors of the club. You threw your bag over your shoulder, the strap pulled down on you (h/c) hair. As you walked under the moonlight you rememberd how this was the only thing that made your job worth it. Finishing during the early hours of the morning the streets were always silent. Your thoughts could run wild without the imposing mutter of people on the street. You were a few blocks from your apartment when you heard the slight chatter of voices.
“She would be lucky to be with such a man, the whore!”
You noticed it was the same men who oogled at your tits earlier that night. Great, you thought. You averted your eyes to the floor, hoping that they would just let you walk past. The smell of putrid, day old sweat mixed with stale beer and a trail of burnt tabacco.
“Hey, sweetie. You got a light!”
“No, sorry. Goodnight.”
“Oh, shit. You’re that waitress from the bar.”
“Why don’t you join us for a good night, sweet heart!” His friend chirped in, his voice almost as sleazy as the first.
“Creepy old men aren’t my type...”
“No need to get nasty, doll. I can show you a real good time” The way his words slid off his tongue repulsed you.
‘I’d fuck the shit outta her!’
Your face creased in disgust at his thoughts “I seriously doubt that!” His eyebrow raised as he seemed to get turned on by your aggressive replies. You caught on “Ew, no! Screw you, old man!” The first slap shocked you as you held you cheek, a small trickle of blood ran down your face from where his ring caught you. You were led by your hair, almost thrown into the alleyway. Your chest moved up and down rapidly as you you realised the danger you were currently in. You shifted your weight as you dodged his attack, his punch nearly coming into contact with your jaw, but your victory was short lived as his other hand caught you square in the ribs. You dropped to the floor as the violence continued in your weak state. A swift kick came into contact with your abdomen as your breath hitched in your throat. You blocked the next one with your arms, as you attempted to get on your feet. Everything was a blur, you could barely see, let alone defend yourself. At this point adrelalin was the only thing keeping you conscious as each blow sent pain searing through your body. His hand grazed your scalp as he pulled your hair, directing your face to his.
“Such a pretty face, it would be a shame if something were to happen to it...” A blade was pressed against your skin, it reflected in the moonlight. Your hands trembled as you tried to push him away with the last bit of your strength. You couldn’t scream. You were fighting with every inch of your life, but you felt hopeless. You were too weak. Your arms felt as though there were cement blocks attatched to them, rendering you powerless as you tried to fight back. You were already on your knees. Despite the shit you had endured, you didn’t want to die. “Please...” His figure didn’t stand that much taller than you but you had never felt so small in comparison. Darkness consumed you, the coldness of the night clung to your skin as you could barly keep your eyes open.
“Get your hands off of her. NOW.” Your attention shifted, as you are dropped onto the dark pavement below.
“Oh who’s this? Mr big shot I see. You think you’re going to get brownie points for being the knight in shining armor?” One of them yelled.
“Keep talking, you bastard. It’s going to make this a lot more fun!” The figure moved under the street light. He wasn’t sure what had taken over him, but in the moment he couldn’t bare seeing you like this.
A strange smell took over your notrils as blue light illuminated the darkness. It was nothing like you’d ever experience before. The smell of burning flesh almost made you sick. You watched as your fellow friend emitted blue flames throughout the alley way, his heat radiated higher and higher with each step. Hairs on your neck stood on end as the men’s screams filled the quiet streets. They flaied their arms around, as they moved them to their face as though they could shield themselves from the battle against the flames. As the flames englufed them, you could hear the sound of them sizzling as though they were meat on a barbeque. You laid there as you watched their clothes melt onto their skin, before their bodies dropped to the ground, their voices fell silent.
A strong arm wrapped around you, your head rested on his chest. “I told you to meet me after work. Why do you never listen.” his voice sounded distant as you chose not to argue.
“Dabi? Where are we... going?”
“I’m taking you to my apartment.”
“No, just put me down... I’ll be... fine” He doesn’t even bother to give you a reply. He knows you are in no fit state to go home on your own. Your eyes begin to fog over before everything went dark.
03:58 AM 28th April
You opened your eyes, your head pounded against your skull. Pain coursed through you as you rolled your shoulder forward.
“Ahh, she’s awake.”
“What time is it?”
“I think 4 A.M, you haven’t been down long. What do you remember?”
“ I rememeber getting out from work, getting jumped by some assholes and then...” You buried your face into your palms, trying to hide from Dabi’s gaze.
“Then what?”
“You killed them...”
“Ahh that’s good. Here, why don’t we try again and see if you can put even more disgust in your voice!” His voice spared you no sympathy.
“What do you expect, Dabi. You didn’t just killed them. I heard their screams as you burnt them to death!” you screamed back, your arms flaied in the air.
“Well things never go acording to plan, huh?”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“What ever you make of it, princess”
“No. I want you to explain!” You demanded.
“You were supposed to meet me after work, Y/N. If you had just waited this would of never of happened!”
“Oh, so I’m to blame for this? Wow, way to make me feel even shitter tonight, Dabi!” Your eyes narrowed.
“You’re such an ungrateful bitch! I put my neck out to save you tonight! I should of just carried on walking!”
You wished in that moment you could just switch off your emotions. His body became distorted as your vision was being consumed by tears. No. You refused to let him get to you like this. You sat up from the sofa, your tone cold.
“Maybe you should of.” Even through your attempts of concealment, you both could tell that it sounded more pained than anything.
He paused before he chose to speak. A sigh breaking his lips. “I shouldn’t of said that. Look, I put a shirt on the bed for you in my room. You’ve got blood all over, why don’t you go get a shower and we can talk about this after?”
You removed your clothes before setting them on the radiator. The bathroom wasn’t very big. As you moved from the door, the toilet was on your right, a white sink and basen opposite. A cabinet was above the sink, mirrors attatched to the doors. The aroma of burnt wood combined with a fruity smell of body wash accosted your senses. As you climbed into the shower, your body immediatly felt soothed, your muscles reducing their need to spasm. You could already feel the tension lifting slightly as you closed your eyes, the water running over you. Tears rolled down your cheek, the water from the shower masking them as you rest your head on the wall next to you. The warmth carressed your skin as you felt safe enough to let your emotions escape. You huddled your knees to your chest as you momentarily flashed back to being in the cold, dark alley. You scrubbed your body as you rememeber where the man had touched you, you almost caused your skin to bleed as you tried to wash away the disgust you felt. Small experations of pain escaped your lips as you tried to supress them, but once you started you began to release an unbroken stream of tears.
A small knock, hit the door.
“Y/N, are you ok?”
“I’ll be out in a minute!” You tried to keep the acid from your tone, but you weren’t sure you were able to censor yourself anymore that night.
You opened the doorway to the main room, Dabi couldn’t help but stare. The way that his shirt fell over your curves, he loved it. His eyes trailed over your breasts, not long falling to your slender waist. He had noticed the way you damp skin glistened under the his apartment lights.
‘I’ve never seen that shirt look so good before. URG! Wait can you hear me? Blink 5 times if you can. Wait, why would you let me know you’re in my head. Shit. Erm, think of something funny..... DAMN! Where is Twice when you need him?’
“Hey, Y/N, you want to watch a movie? I made you a hot chocolate as well.”
“Is that an apology?”
“Don’t push it.”
You enjoy his discomfort as he shifted his weight between his feet. You had almost forgot that Dabi had a soft side. Not many people were shown it, and you felt blessed to be one of them. Underneath, he really did have a nice personality, sometimes it borderlined charming. You took the mug from his hand, your fingers brushed over one anothers during the exchange. Dabi felt his pupils dilate as a grin soon spread across his face.
“Shotgun!”
“What are we? Five?” Your thighs burnt as you charged to the sofa, claiming the middle seat as your own.
You and Dabi were sat on his sofa, the space between you basically non-existant. You were trying your best to maintain your composure, but you kept shaking, it was part of the reason you actually hated visiting Dabi’s apartment. It was as though he had never heard of the word heating before, which is kind of ironic. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see you curled into a ball, your body twitching every so often.
“You cold? Or in pain?” He glanced over to you and then the blanket over in the corner.
“A little of both...” You replied sheepishly. You breathed a sigh of relief as Dabi got up and placed the blanket over you, his body closer now. You found yourself snuggled into his chest as his arm rested on your shoulder, pulling you into him. You suddenly couldn’t concentrate on anything but the sound of your heart jumping out of your chest, you were tempted to use your quirk, to see what he was thinking but you didn’t want to invade his privacy. You hadn’t noticed before but the way the TV light illuminated his face, he looked quite beautiful, his expression somber. It was quite different from how you saw him most days, even though you didn’t agree with what happened tonight, you started to feel guilty for the way you spoke to him earlier, however, before you realised that you were staring, Dabi’s eyes burned into yours, your eyes widening with embarrassment.
“What?”
“Huh?”
“Why are you staring?”
“I wasn’t!”
“I literally just caught you, Y/N. Don’t try and bull shit me!” Your bodies moved slightly apart, you now faced one another.
“Sorry, I...erm. I just wanted to apologise for what I said earlier. You were just trying to help and I acted like a bitch. What I should have said was ‘Thank you’.” After your apology, you both sat there, both averting eye contact. You couldn’t help but cringe at your own words, you can’t believed you just admitted you were wrong to Dabi - of all people.
“Took you long enough!” Dabi doesn’t miss a second before he replied. Your fist collided with his shoulder, pain reminded you off what you had experience earlier that morning.
“Ow. Shit. God, you’re such an ass. I can’t believe I just apologised to you! I take it back.”
“Oh no, you can’t you’ve said it now. You can’t take it back. Tough luck, princess.” he taunted as he closed to small gap between you. His breath hit your face, as you glanced at his lips. You pulled him by the top of his shirt as he leant into you, your mouths begged to be with one another. The kiss was soft in the beggining, it quickly being changed to a deep one. Your moved your hands from his shirt to his neck, forcing him towards you. Dabi obliged, as his body pinned you against his sofa. Your hands crept along his waist as you pulled him onto you, your legs wrapping around him. You winced in pain as his arm brushed over your ribs. He pulled back from you, his hand removed from under your top.
“Are you ok? Do you want to stop?”
Your cheeks glowed red as you slowly pushed yourself out from underneath him, your arms clicked under the pressure.
“I think that’s probably best...” Although he said nothing, you could tell he was disappointed. You were so embarrassed.
“I think I should get going anyway. I’ll just go get my things.” Your voice chocked you in your throat, you felt like such an idiot.
“Don’t be awkward, Y/N. I’ll sleep on the couch. You can have my room. I’m not going to make you walk to your apartment after what happened tonight.”
“Are you sure? I don’t mind, honestly.”
“No, it’s fine. I’ve slept in worse places, trust me.”
You both sat there, the silence killing you both. You decided to drop it and chose to accept his offer, not wanting to get into another disagreement. You were certainly more of a hot head and after tonight your fuse was even shorter. “Ok, well I should get some rest.”
“I’ll see you in the morning.”
You took a deep breath and smiled to his reply. You made your way into his room before you sinked into his sheets, tiredness taking over.
03:15 PM 28th April
Dabi woke up, the afternoon light filling his apartment. He groaned as he rolled off the sofa, cracking his back from his uncomfortable night sleep. Dabi entered his kitchen, and thought after the night you had he would at least try and make today go a little smoother for you. The door to his bedroom creaked open as he walked in with a plate full of pancakes, a few peices of bacon on the side. Not long after he entered, he slammed the plate on bedside counter. His bed looked almost untouched, hadn’t it been for the screwed up blanket thrown over the top, he wasn’t even sure you had stayed. The room felt uncomfortable all of a sudden, he had never noticed how empty it had felt until that moment, but he wasn’t sure why he felt this way. It’s not like he was used to you being there. He returned to the sofa, scanning every inch until he found his phone, your contact hovered under his thumb. He called you, it immediatly going to voicemail, his voice wavered as he left a message.
“Hey, Y/N. Look, I’m sorry about what happened last night. I didn’t mean to make it awkward between us. If you can just give me a call back, when you can.”
As he remained in his apartment close to his phone, he waited for your reply, only to find it never came.

Trapped, Cold, and Bruised
John Kennex X FemaleReader
Okay so this was from my 25 days of Ficmas (Day two snowed in) and I didn't like it as much so I rewrote it. You guys got the slow dancing with Kennex instead but what the hell...here ya'll go. Have some Kennex love and Whump. 😂
Warning: There is Blood and broken things in the little one-shot so please proceed with caution. Don't slip on the ice!
No beta typos with be a thing!
-H ❤🖖
“How long until we’re at the hospital, Jax?” you asked through the small window, the much older man glanced at you quickly, “bout twenty hun,” he smiled and looked back at the road. You looked at your charge on the stretcher, his eyes were closed and his pulse strong. You expertly inserted an IV into the man’s wrist; taping it off you let the medication do its work. You proceeded to examine the guy more closely looking for any more injuries other than the broken arm and bad concussion. “You know you could have just asked,” a low voice startled you. Taking your hands off of his leg you, which was obviously a prosthetic. Sighing you jumped seats so you were by his head,
“Good, you’re awake. Can you tell me your name?” you inquired already knowing the answer having checked his wallet. The man groaned,
“John Kennex,” he mumbled as he lifted his hand to his head, but you stopped him.
“Stay still, and tell me what day it is,” you said clicking a penlight on and checking his pupils.
The man- Kennex hissed in pain at the sudden extreme brightness. “December 2nd, 2049. Can you not?” he asked, swatting away the pen. With the quick movement of his arm, Kennex yelped in pain. You raised an eyebrow at him,
“Wanna hold still now?” you asked amused and he scowled at you.
“Do you remember what happened, Mr. Kennex?” you asked, lowering your voice into a whisper out of pity.
“John, please. Uh and maybe I was driving,” he said screwing his eyes shut.
“You were in a car accident detective. Black ice is pretty bad out of city limits,” you said adjusting the stretcher so he was sitting up.
“I was...I don’t…” he mumbled and growled in frustration, “damnit!” his shout made you sigh,
“Listen, John, head wounds are tricky. Not remembering what happened during the accident, it happens. You’ll get it in time,” you spoke gently but not too gently to sound patronizing.
Standing up you reached across the stretcher and began to dig through the cabinets. “Damn I really need to restock this, hold on,” you muttered before pulling out a box of sanitary napkins.
That’s of course when the night decided to get worse, the ambulance jerked sharply to the side sending you crashing up against the wall that separated the rear and the cab. “Jax!” you shouted wincing at the sharp pain in your shoulder, You shoved off the wall and into Kennex’s line of sight. He was gritting his teeth in pain clutching onto his splinted arm. You opened your mouth to ask John if he were alright but the tires squealed, this started the domino effect. It’s like time slowed, your eyes met Johns and you were flying through the air. Everything flipped and rolled over and over again; you screamed out in surprise before you felt your head strike something hard. The world spun again until it came to an abrupt stop with a thunderous crunch. You could barely hear Kennex calling out for you but his voice was distant and you were falling into the dark.
John coughed and groaned, he kept his eyes on your unconscious form lying awkwardly on some cabinets. The ambulance was currently on its side and down an embankment, if he were to guess, “Only I could get into two car crashes in one night,” he muttered, wiggling so his good arm could undo the safety straps of the stretcher. Undoing the one across his chest helped him breathe a bit easier, reaching down toward the one across his legs he triggered the release. Clearly not thinking his plan through he tumbled to the ground with a painful thud,
“God damnit son of a-” he cried out kicking the surface below him in agony. Getting his breathing under control John sat up maneuvering so he was on his knees, the lights were out and he couldn’t see a damn thing. Cursing again Kennex fumbled around for the penlight he was assaulted with earlier; finding it he turned it on and shined it towards you. He shuffled over to you and checked your pulse, breathing a sigh of relief when he felt a strong steady rhythm. Checking your head and neck he saw that you have a deep gash on your temple; wincing he painfully lifted you so you were flat on the ground. “Alright sweetheart I got you,” he whispered, shining the light lower checking your legs, it reached just below the knee when he stopped. Sucking in a breath John swallowed hard; your leg was broken, ‘a compound fracture’ if he remembered correctly.
Bone stuck out of the ripped pant leg and blood started to coat the white floor beneath you. “Shit,” John hissed and turned to grab one of the emergency kits lying around. Ripping it open he pulled out gauze and gently applied pressure to the wound, getting to his feet John searched the ambulance for a leg splint. A pounding at the window of the cab caught his attention. Opening the window John saw an older man struggling to open the passenger side door, “Oh thank God, hey man. Is my partner alight?” he asked looking down at the window, “She’s alive, but she needs to get the hell out of here,” John said looking back at the woman. The driver cursed “I can get out. Let me see the damage and we’ll come up with a plan,” he said finally pushing the door open. John grimaced when Jax got a face full of snow,
“Fu-” Jax yelped and Kennex coughed easing back towards you, splint in hand. Pulling on a pair of gloves John replaced your bloody gauze with new ones before carefully easing the splint onto your leg. “You know, this is your job that I’m doing,” muttered to you. He tapped a button and the splint began to tighten so it hugged your leg just right. Reaching into the bag John pulled out an already prepped injector filled with a clotting agent mixed with a light pain killer. Popping off the cap John injected it by the break wincing in sympathy.
The sound of someone banging on the back doors to the ambulance made Kennex look up from the emergency blanket he was unfolding. “Ey man I can’t get the door open you’re snowed in! I’m going to go up to the road and see if I can flag someone down or get a signal.” his voice muffled but still understandable.
“Looks like it’s just you and me…” he paused squinting at your nametag, “(Y/N). I think we may be here a while,” he sighed adjusting so you were between his legs lying in an upright position against his chest. Moving the crinkly blanket so it covered the both of you John let his head tilt back and rest on the chilled wall behind him.
An hour later; according to Kennex’s dying limb. You woke up. Everything hurt; your head throbbed, your ribs ached, and your leg burned as if it were set on fire. Sitting up quickly you gasped pain shooting from almost every nerve ending. “Whoa, careful. Don’t move so much,” a voice mumbled from behind you. Turning despite his advice you saw Kennex leaning up against what used to be the floor of the ambulance. “Wha-” you were confused and quite frankly nauseous; after pulling you back to your original spot he spoke, “we swerved, and flipped off the side of an embankment,”
Kennex pulled the disturbed blanket back to wear it was, “I think I remember the first part,” you offered sheepishly. You took another deep breath, in through your nose and out your mouth shakily. “You okay, do you need anything?” John asked quietly, you gripped the blanket tightly “Just dizzy, I’m not allowed to pass out okay?” and John nodded. “You have a compound fracture to your right leg,” he whispered, pulling the blanket away from your leg so you could see the damage. “I did my best to stop the bleeding. I figure I would check on it again in another forty-five minutes,” he offered and nudged you when you didn’t respond; staying awake was harder than you thought it was going to be.
“Alright fine,” you grumbled making Kennex laugh, his chest vibrating your back. “Favorite type of food, go,” you said trying to keep the conversation going.
And that’s how they found you; pale, freezing, and laughing your asses off at the story John was telling you about his partner Dorian. You were being loaded into a new ambulance when John waved away his own paramedics. He jogged over holding your phone in his hands, “Hey your partner dug this out for you,” he said with a smirk.
“Thanks for your help John,” you said, taking the device. He bowed his head and waved off the thanks,
“Try the city sometime, the roads are almost as salty as you,” he said backing away slowly. You barked out a laugh,
“Yeah maybe, but don’t forget who ate a slug Kennex,” you teased with a wink. John grinned and shook his head, a car pulled up next to him, a young man got out lights dancing along the side of his face. ‘Must be Dorian,’ you thought with a smile. The doors slammed shut just as Dorian turned his head to look at you with curiosity.
The next morning you were greeted by a text, tilting your head you tapped the screen to see who it was. A smile pulled at your lips, “When you’re better I hope you’d be up to the best noodle joint in the city,” you read out loud. Chuckling you typed out a response, ‘You’re on Kennex, as long as I don’t have to eat a slug and you have to try Thai,’
“You know I don’t know about Thai food,” a voice said from the doorway of your hospital room. You looked up and grinned.

My Kingdom for a Shield
In which I project my experiences onto Skyward Sword Link; by which I mean I suffered so I make him suffer.
BTW, i realize that description is misleading. This is not angst. Mostly comedic. I hope you enjoy!
All he wanted was the shield.
Ever since he first heard the rumor about an indestructible shield, Link knew he had to have it. No more repairs, no more potions, no more having his shield break mid-fight and leaving him defenseless. He’d never have to buy another shield again. It sounded like a miracle, too good to be true.
So when the Thunder Dragon had issued his first challenge, Link threw himself into it head-first.
He’d forgotten what they said about things that are too good to be true.
The first time he took on the challenge, he’d been defeated on the eighth boss, Moldarach. It was like rubbing salt in the wound—not only had he failed (and his defeat had been long, painful, and drawn out for that matter), but the shield had been right there.
Still, he was exhausted, so Link listened to Fi’s advice and retreated.
Once he was out of Lanayru’s sight, he’d laid down on the ground and screamed.
Still, he wanted that shield. So he’d rested and prepared, and took on the Trial with renewed determination.
This time, he’d died on the 7th boss—to Moldarach. Again.
Cue more screaming.
Fi made some pointed comments about his mental state, so once more, Link had taken a break. He rested. He prepared.
What’s more, he planned.
This time, when he went down and took the trial, he had the heart medallion in his pouch. He downed a souped-up Guardian potion.
And most of all, when Lanayru asked him which enemy he’d take on first, he picked Moldarach.
Soon after, Moldarach exploded into a cloud of purple mist, and Link was ready to take on the rest of the Trial with his pride avenged and hope in his heart.
One by one, he tore through the bosses. Some were more difficult, leaving him bruised and bleeding and exhausted, but the Goddesses seemed to be smiling upon him, for the 7th boss was Scaldera, and at the top of Scaldera’s ramp grew a whole cluster of heart-flowers.
With seven wins to his name and all his hurts wiped way, Link knew in his heart that this was it. Third times the charm, after all.
And he did. He beat Koloktos. He beat the third stage of the Imprisoned.
HE’D DONE IT.
As the Imprisoned vanished in a burst of brilliant light, Link felt triumph sweep through him in a glorious wave. It’d taken a long time, and he’d paid in blood, sweat and tears, but it was all worth it because the shield would be his!
“Well done!” Lanayru rumbled. “You’ve defeated all nine bosses. Here is your prize!”
Link sucked in a giddy breath as the dragon clapped his hands.
“2,000 rupees!”
…
WHAT
The Chosen Hero stared blankly at the dragon, waiting for all his prizes to appear. Especially the shield.
He waited a few moments. He spun in a circle, examining the ground around him. He dug frantically in his pouch.
Fi let out a soft chime. “Master…” her voice was hesitant. “There is a 97 percent chance that the prizes for the Trial are not, in fact, accumulative.”
Link swallowed hard. “So… my shield…”
“It appears that in order to acquire the shield you must stop after defeating the 8th boss in the trial.” Fi said.
Her voice, usually free of nearly all inflection, sounded distinctly apologetic.
Link stared for a few moments into some middle distance that only he could see, then slowly nodded.
“If you’ll excuse me for a few moments,” He said to the dragon, his voice distant-sounding; then, without waiting for an answer, Link turned on his heel and meandered off.
As soon as he got out of sight, he collapsed, dug his fingers into the ground, and screamed. He screamed for five minutes straight, until his throat ached and his eyes burned with the tears that refused to fall.
“2,000 rupees.” He muttered into the dirt. “My wallet can only hold 1,900. And I already had about 500 at least. After all that. I didn’t even get 2,000 rupees.”
Fi floated above Link where he lay prone, hesitating. Finally, she spoke. “You may have not gained the shield this time, Master, but you did finish the trial. That proves that gaining the shield is well within your capabilities. With adequate rest and preparation, you can once again attempt the trial—”
“No,” Link said, and pushed himself off the ground. “No.”
Fi stared down at him, discombobulated.
“You said it, Fi,” Link said, beginning to clamber to his feet, a determined light in his eye. “I proved I can get the shield. So I’m going to. Now. I’m not gonna wait any longer and let my skills get rusty. I’m going to get that shield.”
Fi floated uncertainly for a moment, before bowing her head.
“…Perhaps you should at least get a fresh Guardian potion?”
Link considered this. “All right. But then I’m going to go get the shield.”
~~~
Link got the Guardian potion, and wasted half an hour trying to get bugs to upgrade it, before dismissing it as taking too long and heading back up to Skyloft. Fi radiated a mixture of disapproval and concern, but Link didn’t care.
Today was the day, and he wouldn’t stop until he had that shield in his hands.
He equipped his shield, he downed the Guardian potion, and he picked Moldarach for his first fight. It was a bit harder than last time, as the potion wasn’t as effective, but the stupid scorpion exploded into purple smoke and Link was off to fight Ghirahim.
One by one Link stabbed, hacked, ran and slashed his way through his old opponents, frantically consuming heart-blossoms and trying to get through each enemy as quickly and safely as possible. After what felt like hours of exertion, here Link was. His Eight enemy.
Koloktos.
Link wielded the whip with confidence, darting forward to lure the enemy into a strike before dancing away and snatching away the guardian’s arms, before running in and striking the core. Ducking and dodging behind pillars, grabbing at heart-blossoms and striking down zombies. His heart raced, his breath came in pants. The insides of his gauntlets grew slick with sweat, yet Fi as ever remained irm and sure in his hand.
And then—with deft flicks of his wrist, the whip snatched away three arms, and Link was scooping up one of Koloktos’ large swords. A surge of emotion flooded through him: hope, determination, satisfaction, expectation, and last but not least, sheer rage.
And with a yell, Link chopped at the legs of Koloktos. The colossus crashed to the ground with a discordant clang, but the Chosen Hero didn’t hesitate for even a moment. He swung at the torso with a yell.
“This is for Skyloft!”
Another sweep across the grating.
“This is for Hylia!”
The grating snapped, leaving the crimson core pulsing and exposed. Victory was near at hand, the shield was near at hand—
He swung again.
“This is for Zelda!”
Koloktos shuddered. Link hauled the massive blade back, sucked in a deep breath, and yelled.
“AND THIS. IS. FOR. MY. SHIELD!”
He brought the blade down in a gleaming arc, slicing directly across the core.
Koloktos jerked, shuddered, and Link let out a final scream of victory. “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”
The golden guardian fell to the ground with resounding crash.
“I did it.” Link whispered, a wild grin crossing his face. His hands squeezed around the grip of his sword and shield, his heart still racing, his mind frantically trying to accept the fact that he’d won.
The room filled with a brilliant white light, and it was finally over.
Link was back in the bubble of the ancient past in Lanayru Gorge, the Thunder Dragon before him.
“You have done well, and beaten your previous record,” The dragon rumbled. “If you quit now, you will get an absurdly strong shield—”
“YES.”
It was beautiful A deep blue, adorned with three golden triangles and the familiar shape of a crimson bird. Link stroked his fingers reverently over the metallic surface.
In that moment, Link knew it had all been worth it.
“Congratulations, Master,” Fi chimed. “You have succeeded against great odds, and have obtained the Hylian shield. This shield has a 85% chance of drastically increasing your success rates while battling enemies.”
“I know, right?” Link said, his voice giddy. The fight was over now, but he still felt pumped up. His blood rushed through his veins, and all of a sudden neither his arms nor his legs felt tired anymore.
“…Master,” Fi added, the tone of her voice faintly cautious and pleading, “now that you have gained your objective, I recommend that you return to Skyloft and get the proper rest and recovery your ordeal demands. You have just fought seventeen bosses in the space of a day, and there is a 72% chance that—”
“I’ll rest later.” Link said, bouncing on his feet a little. “I don’t feel like I can rest right now! I wanna do something!”
Fi was silent for a moment. “What activity do you have in mind, Master?”
“Well…” Link said, a manic gleam in his eye. “If you beat four bosses, the reward is a Piece of Heart—"
~~~
...So yeah I got the Hylian Shield. And this is how I got it. So I made Link get it the way I did because I was still buzzing with adrenaline, still on the high of that cinematic finish with Koloktos (I shouted what I made Link shout) and I wanted to do something.
So I made Link suffer as I have suffered.
...also I did get the piece of heart but it was a near thing. And then my dad made me get off because I’d been playing for 2 and a half hours and it was past 1:00 am.
So yeah.
I’ve got my shield now, and I am very happy 💖
(I also got the piece of heart 😉)

I loved your Edward Cullen piece! I feel that that he would have a constant sexual urge brimming underneath and you accurately portrayed it boiling over. May i request another piece on how the MC and Esward met?
A/N: Sorry this took a bit, writers block + still being in school was tough but I managed, even If i’m not all that happy with the result! Prob will do a part 2 sorry the dialogue is awkward. I imagined like a scenario like the cannon universe where edward is into her but also scared of harming her but hes also just a teen boy with his first crush, both Y/n and edward arent sure how to act with it.
Tw: Being scared to walk alone at night?? Idk just put that just in case!!
The midnight wind blew through Y/n’s hair, a chill running up her spine not just from the cold, but with every set of glowing headlights that passed her by. Y/n was never one to walk around at night, the fear of what may lurk had been pushed upon her since she was a child, and now as she wandered the dim streets her chest felt so tight with fear she wasn’t sure if she could breathe. Y/n wished she had accepted Dr. Cullens offer of a ride home, but she didn’t want to inconvenience the man and instead lied about taking a taxi. Her and Dr. Cullen had become close over the past few weeks that she had been volunteering at the hospital, hoping to gain experience when she applied to universities to be a doctor. The two were inseparable there, Y/n watching with wide eyes and bated breath whatever the doctor did, and Carlisle carefully walking her through step by step the process of what he was doing.
She pulled her sweater tighter around her body as she rounded the corner into an alleyway her e/c coloured eyes darting around. She could see her breath as she tried to calm her breathing, but that was proved futile when she stepped on a can, the loud crunch startling a scream out of her. “Get it together Y/n.” She muttered, squeezing her eyes shut for a moment, trying to regain composure as she heard distant voices approaching. Her hand, stiff from cold, dug into her pocket, grabbing her keys and sticking them through the paces between her fingers. Feeling a little better, Y/n continued her walk.
Y/n had to admit, despite her terror, the night time in forks was beautiful. The way the streets were illuminated by the passing headlights of cars, and the occasional coloured lights of stores reflected through the puddles that seemed to forever be there in the rainy city had the ability to take her breath away despite how small they were. The awe of the neon painted town distracted her from the silent footsteps coming behind her.
“Y/n?” Spoke a familiar voice. She spun around at the sound of her name, her grip on her keys tightened, only to loosen a bit when she recognized the man in front of her. Edward Cullen. “It’s late, why are you out here alone? You must be cold.” Y/n hadn't talked to the Cullen boy before, or really any Cullen other than Carlisle. At school the Cullen kids seemed like an untouchable group, but seeing him now, soaking wet, she felt as if he wasn't so high above the rest as everyone thought.
“I-I’m fine. Just a little chilly.” She lied, feeling the chill seep past the wet sweater she wore and into her body. The Cullen boy seemed to notice it was a lie, taking off his jacket and placing it over her shoulders in a fluid movement. “But won’t you get--”
“I don’t get cold easily.” Edward cut off her question, “Besides, my car is nearby. It’ll be warm in there.”
“No no it’s fine I’ll just take a cab.” Y/n said quickly, though the feeling of being in a warm car filled her thoughts she didn’t want to inconvenience anyone and much preferred to do things on her own despite her empty wallet disagreeing.
“It’ll be no inconvenience, besides It’ll save you money.” He replied as if he read her mind. Y/n opened her mouth to come up with a reason to not go with him but all that came out was a sneeze.
“See, you’re already catching a cold. Lets go.” Edward put his hand on the small of her back and began to lead Y/n to a Volvo parked on the side of the road. Y/n felt bad for bothering him but she could feel herself getting sicker with every sniffle, and her body was ice cold. She really wished she had initially accepted Dr. Cullen’s offer for a ride, fear dawning on her as she realized she would have to call in sick. If Edward noticed how she was feeling, he didn’t show it, staying silent as he ushered her into the car and passed her a blanket he had stored inside.
The car ride was quiet, the air between the two thick and awkward as they both figured out what to say. Y/n wished she could read minds, know what he was thinking. She hoped he wouldn’t tell Dr.Cullen about the meeting between the two, not wanting to appear like she rejected his car ride for any reason other than her own stupid independence. Y/n was about to say something, a question about how he found the weather, anything to make the ride less awkward, when he pulled up to her house. Quick pleasantries were exchanged between the two and Y/n headed inside, only realizing she had Edwards' coat once he had pulled away.
For the next few days the Cullen's were no shows at school. Y/n had the coat stashed in her locker to give to him, and yet she couldn’t find him. It drove Y/n insane. Every day she would walk into the cafeteria ready to finally get rid of this coat whose presence was weighing heavy on her subconscious, only to face disappointment when he wasn’t there. She knew a jacket wasn’t all that important in the long term, but it smelled so much like Edward’s car and reminded her of him and his stupidly attractive face, Y/n wanted to rid herself of it before her budding crush blossomed into a full blown one. It took a few days for Y/n to muster up the courage to talk to Dr.Cullen about it. Worries filled the back of her mind that he would think her to be stupid or weird, but as the were cleaning up for the night Y/n decided to bite the bullet.
Y/n sprayed the sharp smelling sanitizer on the table, wiping it down with a cloth and repeating on the next, her lips pursed as she thought of how to bring up the situation to the doctor across the room from her, who was busy looking over papers. Luckily the blonde seemed to notice first, standing up from his seat and walking over.
“Y/n, what’s on your mind?” He asked casually yet looking at her with the look of concern only a father could give.
“Well a while ago, when you offered me a ride home because my car was in the shop and I said no and I would take a taxi, I actually decided to walk home because I didn’t want to bother you and then I ran into your son Edward and he gave me a ride home, but then I forgot to give it back to him, so could you?” Y/n asked, her words spilling out of her mouth quickly, glad she could finally get the situation off her chest.
Carlisle chuckled, grabbing a sticky note and writing on it, handing it to Y/n. “I have got to stay late but here’s my address. You can go give him it now or later.”
Y/n nodded, giddy with the excitement of finally getting away from the burden of having to return the coat. “You’ll be fine here without me?” she asked cautiously before she got too excited.
Carlisle nodded. “Yes, go give my son his coat. And tell him he needs to wear it more often.”
The Cullen’s house was beautiful at night. A mansion buried in the woods, it seemed so serene. Y/n wished she lived there so she could gaze out of the many lit up windows and into the forest. But there was no time for daydreaming about the lush scenery, Y/n was on a mission. She held the grey fabric tightly as she stepped out of the car, nervously approaching the door. She hadn’t heard of anyone going to the Cullen’s house, was she the first from her school? She was nervous as she approached the door, about to knock when the door opened, revealing a small teen with a dark pixie cut. Was it Alexa Cullen? Y/n wasn’t too sure on their names.
“Edward, a cute girl is here for you!” The girl, possibly named Alexa, shouted into the house. “You are here for Edward right?”
“Uh, yeah…” Y/n said awkwardly, looking to the ground and tightening her grasp on the jacket, looking at the pavement that was illuminated by the open door. After a few moments of silence the light disappeared and she looked up, her eyes meeting Edward’s piercing amber ones that seemed to know her deepest secrets.
“I’ll leave you two lovebirds at it” the girl chimed, closing the door and locking Edward outside.
“Sorry about my sister Alice, she’s a little…odd” Edward trailed off, looking to the side. Y/n was glad to know the name of the girl before, but also happy to just look at Edward, as creepy as it sounded. He looked perfect as always, hardly a strawberry blonde hair out of place, and those that were just made him look more perfect. Y/n could feel herself falling hard. Ever since the night he helped her out he seemed irresistible.
“It’s fine…” Y/n replied, the two sitting in silence for a while before Y/n remembered her task. “Oh here, I came to bring you your coat. So, uh, yeah..” She pressed the balled up grey coat into his hands. “Carlisle said you need to wear it more.”
Edward let out a chuckle. “I guess I’ll have to…” he stared at the grey fabric as if it would tell him what to say next.
“So I’ll go then?” Y/n said, though it sounded like a question. She didn’t want to bother him more than needed and began so walk away, pausing only when she heard his voice.
“Wait, before you go. Dinner, Friday, at eight? To make up for the effort you put in giving me my jacket back.” Y/n felt butterflies fly through her stomach, wondering if he possibly liked her back.
“Dinner… sounds good…” Y/n blushed with a smile to the ground, waiting for him to go back inside before giddily running back to her car. “I got a date with Edward Cullen!” She sang to herself as she pulled out of the driveway, oblivious to her crush smiling inside the house at her thoughts.

steal my heart // vic & cass
TIMING: current PARTIES: @natusvincere & @stolensiren SUMMARY: cass cases out a big house in a nice neighborhood, and vic has her suspicions. CONTENT: none
Thievery wasn’t quite as fun as it used to be now that Cass had so many people she cared about in town. It was stupid, but some part of her always felt like she was letting them down, just a little bit, when she slipped her hand into someone else’s pocket and came out of it with a wallet full of cash. But… a siren had to eat, even with the deal on rent she’d scored by moving into Marley’s old apartment. She couldn’t raid her friends’ cabinets forever, especially not when most of her friends didn’t actually need to eat and only bought food so she’d have something to snack on when she was over. And stealing did remain one of her most marketable skills.
So, she was here. Scoping out a pretty decently sized place, home to someone she’d seen display a pretty good amount of wealth in spite of the fact that she seemed to only work as a bartender. It was the kind of situation that screamed ‘family money’ in a way that made Cass feel way less guilty about casing the place from the sidewalk across the street, where she leaned on a building and pretended to look at her phone.
She was just about to finalize her cunning plan when she felt someone settle into the space beside her. Glancing up briefly, she felt her shoulders tense at the realization that the owner of the place she was casing was now leaning against the wall beside her. Clearing her throat, Cass waved her phone absently. “Waiting on an Uber,” she lied smoothly, flashing a grin. “I think he’s lost.”
The quiet was a welcome respite. Being a vampire with enhanced hearing meant there was always too much noise for Vic. Children crying, couples fighting, cars screeching across the roads… it was all too much. So when there was quiet, she reveled in it. Her paintbrush danced along the canvas in front of her, the peaceful scratch of its bristles a welcome prominent sound, muddled only by Winnie’s snores next to her. That is, until there were some unexpected distant sounds from outside.
Ever vigilant of unexpected visitors, Vic put the paintbrush down, heading toward the front of the house where it seemed the noise was coming from. She looked over at Winnie, her snores practically drowning out the sounds from outside. “Some guard dog you are”, she scolded. She peaked out a front window as she passed by noticing a young woman suspiciously looking at her phone, A hoodlum, probably. She took a chance to slink out of the side door, getting across the street in expert time, and apparently out of view of the girl.
She wasn’t interested in putting on airs when there was an apparent delinquent in her neighborhood, so instead she stared at the girl with as much shame as she could muster, her eyes squinting together in disapproval. “Are children even allowed to call Ubers?”, she scolded, looking the girl up and down. “And shouldn’t you be in school instead of staring at my immaculate home?”
The woman had a certain air about her, the kind that Cass felt probably confirmed her ‘old money’ suspicions. Rich people were always haughty, but it took a special kind of rich person to make her want to roll her eyes immediately like this. She didn’t bother resisting the urge, shaking her head as she did so. “I’m not a child,” she said, and it felt like something she was saying a lot these days. Just because half the people in this town were literally hundreds of years old didn’t make her any less of an adult! No matter what anyone said.
Irritation quickly turned to dread as the woman mentioned her home, and she wondered if she’d been caught already. In all honesty, Cass was rarely ever caught. In the early days, sure, she’d had some close calls. But she’d always managed to talk her way out of them, silver tongue sitting heavy in her mouth as she lied and charmed and persuaded so well that she’d convinced herself it was something superhuman after a while. (Technically, she supposed, she hadn’t been wrong about that.)
Recovering quickly, she squared her shoulders and tossed her hair over her shoulder as if it was nothing, as if she hadn’t essentially been read for filth by the person she’d been actively planning to rob. “Is that your place? It’s a little gaudy, for my tastes, but I’m glad you like it, I guess. If I was staring at it, it’s just ‘cause it’s ugly.”
From inside the house, Winnie seemed to have come to her sense, and she let out a few barks for good measure, right before Vic watched her head pop into view from one of the front windows. She was definitely excited for the prospect of a new friend, but Vic knew how to use the fear around her breed to her advantage. “Oh, that’s my vicious, angry Rottweiler, Winnifred, in case you were wondering.” Winnie wouldn’t hurt a fly or a trespasser, or a weird teenager watching her house from across the street, but what this stranger didn’t know wouldn’t hurt her.
“Well, you certainly look like a child”, Vic countered with a scowl. She looked ahead at her home, admiring how pristine the flowerbeds were looking, the early spring weather really complimenting their color and growth patterns. A bit of the girl’s hair hit her in the face as she tossed it, but she elected to ignore that in favor of some more house admiration. But when her sudden insult was spouted in that whiny, waffling voice, Vic turned to her, mouth agape in shock and utter disgust.
“I’m sorry, my hearing must have gone out for a moment, because there is no way you just called my home ugly while standing this close to my property. Want to try that again, little girl?” She pushed herself from the wall, crossing her arms over her chest. What was this kid doing here, anyway? “I have the mind to post your photo on the neighborhood watch facebook group for trespassing, you know.” She huffed, crossing her arms. “What time is your uber supposed to come, then? I might as well watch you while you wait.”
A dog popped up in the window, barks muffled from inside the house, and Cass made a note of it. Dogs always made things a little bit harder… but she was pretty good with them. Animals were just as easy to figure out as people were. Once you realized what they wanted, all you had to do to control them was give it to them. “Cute dog,” she offered with a breezy smile, as if she wasn’t unpacking how to rob the place around the presence of the Rottweiler.
“Maybe you just look old,” Cass shot back before she could stop herself, wincing internally at the words. That was so not what she’d been after here. She didn’t want to piss the woman off — she hadn’t even wanted the woman to see her at all. The best thieves were the opposite of memorable, because it was hard for a person to point fingers at someone they couldn’t recall entirely. If she did go through with this job, this woman was probably going to suspect her. She seemed pretty suspicious already, and Cass hadn’t even taken anything yet.
She was doing a really bad job of being unmemorable all around, it seemed. But she also couldn’t exactly back down. If she got arrested, Marley would probably bail her out. If her pride was damaged, there were only so many ways to repair it. “I’m not trespassing,” she replied. “I’m on the sidewalk. The sidewalk is public property. So. No trespassing.” Not that she wanted her picture on any kind of neighborhood watch page. That would really mess up her work. “I don’t know,” she said, faking another look at her phone. “He keeps driving around in circles. I think he’s lost.”
“She’s not cute”, Vic answered, clearly annoyed. “She’s vicious. Look at her collar.” Whether or not Cass could see the dog’s spiky collar from this distance was neither here nor there, but the point still stood. “I’d have a ‘beware of dog’ sign up if they weren’t so incredibly tacky.” She squinted as she looked over her house again. Was it gaudy? Did her neighbors sit together and laugh at her outdated decor?
The irony of how much younger she was than she looked was not lost on Vic, but she couldn’t help but think this young woman was trying to insult her. “Hah. That’s how I know you’re young. There’s nothing wrong with a little age, Darling. With age comes maturity, and sense, and practicality. All of which you’re clearly lacking.” With a perturbed blink, she realized the kid was right about trespassing. Perhaps if she posted a false flag in the facebook group, someone would call her a ‘Karen’, like people lately had been doing when others posted something similar. Which would be ridiculous, her name was Vic, nor Karen.
“Well… you’re loitering, anyway. I bet your Uber driver is scamming you, too. People love to do that to young women.” Vic tried to peak over at the girl’s phone, to see if she could see proof of this elusive, maybe-scammer. “Why are you in this neighborhood in the first place? I don’t recognize you at all.”
“I can’t see her collar. She’s, like, a million feet away.” The exaggeration was, of course, an intentional one. Cass got the feeling that it would really irritate the woman and, at this point, that seemed like the most entertaining thing to do. “I think those signs are mostly for fences, anyway. In case somebody’s walking by. Why would you need one in your window? The only people who’d be coming into your house would be ones you invited, right?” She blinked, as if perplexed. As if the idea of breaking and entering was so foreign to her that it never crossed her mind at all.
Darling. Who did this lady think she was, Emma Frost? Cass rolled her eyes. “I don’t know, I think threatening random strangers who are just standing there by talking about your big, scary dog in your big, ugly house lacks a certain amount of maturity, too.” She kept her voice light and cheery, smile sharp. She might not have finished high school, but she’d definitely finished Mean Girls. She could pull off a pretty good Regina George when she wanted to.
“Loitering is such a dumb crime,” she huffed, shaking her head. “Like, I’m not allowed to just stand in a public place? That’s stupid.” She moved her phone deftly as the woman leaned in, angled it away from her in a way that was intentional without looking intentional. “He’s got five stars, so he’s probably good. Just having an off day.” What she really needed was for the woman to leave her alone long enough for her to figure out her next step here. “My sister lives just around the corner. I was having dinner at her place, but her boyfriend showed up, so she kicked me out. Really didn’t want to be in earshot of the two of them, so I figured I’d wait for the Uber from here.” It was all made up on the spot, but there was little sign of the deception in her voice. Cass was good at lying. It was the one superpower that didn’t end up being a siren perk. (At least, she was pretty sure it wasn’t.)
“She’s across the street. Do they no longer teach measuring distance in school?”, Vic asked, an intentional jab hidden in there somewhere. “I’d hope so”, she quipped nonchalantly, looking at her fingernails. “But I do have a pretty intense security system if not. State of the art- the best money can buy. So I suppose I really don’t have to worry about young hoodlums moonlighting as innocent passerbys either way.” She let out a scoff and turned to face the young vagrant, annoyance and disdain now playing clear on her face. There was no more need for pleasantries (if there ever was, that is). She wanted her out of there, even if she was innocent.
“I’m sorry, is warning you about my dangerous animal a threat, now?” She could have sworn she saw Winnie licking the window just as she uttered the words. “I’m just doing my due diligence as a pet owner. Next time I’ll just lie to you, honey, since clearly all a snowflake like you cares about is niceties.”
Vic couldn’t believe the nerve of this kid, acting like she was above the law, or something. “You can think something is dumb all you want. It doesn’t change the facts now, does it? Run for office if you’d like to change the law. When you’re old enough.” There was a hint of an eye roll when the phone was moved away from her, and she huffed again in annoyance. “Wow, really? I can’t imagine someone finding any reason to kick you out, you’re just so pleasant!” Her sarcasm was fake enough to be noticed, even to the daftest of dummies. “Wait in front of someone else’s house if you think mine is so ugly”, she spat, ready to walk across the street again. She had to glance at her house once more, though, attempting to study it from an outsider’s point of view. She really had to google the word ‘gaudy’ when she got back inside.
“Wouldn’t know. My grades were pretty shit even before I dropped out.” It was the kind of statement her caseworker used to scold her for. You only say things like that to shock people, to make them uncomfortable. It isn’t very kind. And that was true. Cass knew that was true. But sometimes, she didn’t want to be kind. Sometimes, she only wanted to be heard. Shocking people was a damn good way to achieve that. “Expensive security, huh?” That usually meant someone had something to protect. Security systems weren’t Cass’s specialty, exactly — she was more a con artist than a thief, better at breaking into people than she was at breaking into places — but there were still things to be done with that. She’d gotten passed a security system once by calling the company in tears, claiming her boyfriend had locked her out and away from her dog, sobbing and putting on a show until the security employee had taken pity on her and disarmed the system. People were far less infallible than technology was, at least for Cass.
Not that she thought breaking into this place was a particularly good idea anymore. This woman was definitely going to remember her when she walked away, no matter what she did. People who made you angry tended to leave a pretty lasting impression. It was a rookie mistake on Cass’s part. She knew that. “I mean, when you drop it mid-conversation with someone who’s just chilling near your house? It feels pretty threatening?” She scoffed at the words, rolling her eyes theatrically. “Be honest, how many times have you seen Fight Club? Calling people snowflake was cringe by, like, 2004.”
The woman was clearly angry, and part of Cass relished in it just a little bit. She didn’t think she could rob her anymore, but she could still piss her off. It might not pay her bills, but it would offer some form of entertainment. And Cass would take what she could get. “Oh, I can’t. I already told the guy to pick me up in front of the ugliest house on the block. If I move now, he’s gonna get all confused.”
“Wow, I can’t imagine why”, Vic quipped sarcastically. In truth, there was something sickeningly sad about kids being rated and graded on their intelligence, compared to their peers instead of focusing on their own growth. But this particular kid was all grown up, so any sympathy Vic might have felt for her was waned. “More expensive than you can imagine. Ever heard of Area 51? My security laughs at the thought of theirs.” She was going overboard to an unbelievable degree, but she really didn’t care.
“Do you find the ‘Road Work Ahead’ warning signs threatening as well?”, Vic asked through accusing, squinted eyes. “I’ve never seen a fight club in my life, that sounds miserable. I like to avoid violence if I can help it.” Now this was a lie Vic even told herself, so it shouldn’t have been hard to convince Cass. “In the grand scheme of things, 2004 isn’t really that long ago, Sweet Heart.” Especially not for someone pushing 450. “That just proves, again, your innocence and youth. Trends always recycle, so I’m technically just ahead of the game now.”
Arguing with this forsaken stranger was equal parts fun and infuriating. Part of Vic wondered when she got so starved for entertainment that she would find something like this amusing. Her mouth opened in shock and she looked back up at her house, standing up straighter. “You’re ridiculous. If there were a Homeowner’s Association in this neighborhood, I would surely win most outstandingly beautiful home for the last decade, you absolute buffoon. No wonder your Uber driver is lost… he’ll never find it with such a lie for a description.”
“Public education,” Cass replied with a shrug that said what can you do? Her educational failings weren’t something she really cared about, one way or the other. It wasn’t like she really needed book smarts in White Crest. Street smarts were the thing that had kept her alive this long, and they were also what would help her out against supernatural bullshit. Knowing how to do math wouldn’t do anybody much good against an angry vampire or a hungry zombie, would it? “Wow, seems like overkill. Unless you’re keeping proof of alien life in your attic.” Which did pique Cass’s interest, no matter how unlikely it was.
“No, but I don’t drive, so it doesn’t matter to me if there’s road work anyway.” Cass was being intentionally contrary now, just trying to get a rise out of the stranger. She couldn’t tell if it was working or not, but she was having a good time. That was all that really mattered, wasn’t it? “If you like to avoid violence, you should probably train your dog to be nicer,” she pointed out. “2004 was a long time ago if you’re not… old.” She made a face at the word, shaking her head. “Should you be out this late, anyway? I thought people your age liked to be asleep by seven.”
Calling the house ugly seemed to be a pretty sure-fire way of getting under the woman’s skin, to the point that she’d use words like buffoon with so much seriousness to her tone that Cass had to bite her lip to keep from laughing. “Is that what a Homeowner’s Association does? I thought they were just groups of old white ladies who told you you’ve got too many trees in your yard. I wouldn’t put too much stake in what they think looks good, anyway.” She hummed at the woman’s words, tapping the back of her phone thoughtfully. “No,” she said, “I don’t think that’s it. There’s no more accurate description than this. Oh! I should tell him it’s the big ugly house. Maybe that’ll help!”
“Please don’t tell me you’re one of those people that believe that there are strange and mysterious creatures living in this town”, Vic accused with disdain, shaking her head in disappointment. Being a monster herself didn’t mean she gave credence to all the other ridiculous idea floating around town, and anyone who believed them without question was entirely too delusional for her taste. “Besides, there’s no proof of alien life anywhere, anyway. That’s the whole point of aliens.”
“If you take a bus, the road work will hold you up. Unless you’re implying you walk everywhere”. How could she be so frustrated by a person who’s name she wasn’t even privy to? Wait- how did they even get to arguing about road work, anyway? Wasn’t this about getting her away from her house? “The way I avoid her acting out on her violence is by warning people about it”, she insisted. Winnie, for her part, was probably getting into her paints inside. “Some people take that as a threat, though, so maybe I need to change my method.” She shook her head and gave the girl a judgemental look, clearly annoyed. “Listen, kid, you can keep calling me old, but you’re wasting your breath. It’s the least insulting label you can grant me.”
Vic had lived in a few neighborhoods with HOAs in her time in the United States, and the kid wasn’t exactly wrong about what went on in them. “They love to give awards”, she lied, looking back across the street at her house. She huffed again, wondering the kinds of things someone needed to do to justify making a citizen’s arrest. “That’s fine. I’ll just wait out here with you until he finds it. It’d wouldn’t be very kind of me to leave a child out here all on her own. It’s my duty as an old person, isn’t it?”
“Don’t tell me you’re one of those people who thinks Earth is the only planet in the universe with intelligent life,” Cass shot back, a judgemental tone to the words. Of course, strange and mysterious creatures were something she knew lurked throughout White Crest thanks to personal experience, but… There seemed to be some kind of unspoken ‘Fight Club’ kind of rule to it all. People didn’t talk about the supernatural unless it was to someone they knew was already in the know. Cass didn’t know if this woman fell into that category, and she didn’t like her enough to try to figure it out. Alien life seemed like a safe alternative. “There’s no proof of alien life that you’ve seen, you mean. Haven’t you ever heard of a coverup?”
The argument wasn’t getting anywhere. Cass knew that. But it was kind of fun, and there was no way she was going to let this woman have the last word. “I do walk everywhere, actually,” she replied, just to be contrary. “Or run, if I’m in a hurry. Makes the road work, like, super easy to avoid.” It was hard to keep up with what they were even fighting about anymore, but the thrill of it was still there. This might be the only thing more fun than conning someone. “I think you probably need to change a lot of your methods. Ma’am.” The last word was tacked on, though she doubted the stranger would understand the significance of it. It would probably be funnier if she didn’t. Let her think it was a token of respect instead of the opposite; Cass would recount the story to her friends later. She thought she might be able to cheer Ari up with it, and Kitty would certainly get a kick out of it.
Rolling her eyes, Cass sighed at the obvious standoff she’d found herself in. She had no Uber coming, and this woman wouldn’t leave until one got here. “Shouldn’t you go check on your dog? It doesn’t seem like responsible pet ownership to leave her alone, either. As an old person, you should know that.”
“You mean one of those logical people? Because yes, yes I am one of those people.” In truth, Vic often quietly wondered about what might lie beyond what everyone thought was reality, at least in terms of universes and galaxies. Space was a big vast emptiness, apparently. Bigger than any of them could ever imagine. But it was clear not agreeing with that opinion would annoy this annoying intruder, so she was more than willing to keep up her facade of disbelief. “Oh, so you’re a conspiracy theorist too, then”, she mocked with pursed lips. “It’s no wonder your Uber driver is intentionally leaving you out to dry”.
“Maybe you should walk out of here, then”, she spat, pointing down the road. There was the tiniest hint of a smile playing on her lips as she listened to the nonsense coming out of the girl’s mouth, but she barely noticed it. There was a nod when she was shown the respect of being called ‘ma’am’. Maybe this kid wasn’t too bad after all. “It seems you’re finally coming to your senses. Maybe if you keep up with the pleasantries enough I’ll let you call me Vic like all the big kids do, Sweetie.”
“People leave their dogs alone for hours while they're at work. She’s extremely well trained and self sufficient”, she huffed, but she chanced a glance back toward her house, just in case. She did feel kind of guilty about leaving Winnie alone there, when she so clearly wanted to join in the fun. “I’m heading back, but only when I’m sure my neighborhood is safe from a hoodlum like you. And only when you realize I’m not going back because you told me to.”
“One of those gullible people,” Cass corrected, shaking her head like it was a real shame. Truth be told, after everything she’d learned in White Crest, the idea that aliens weren’t real seemed more ridiculous than the notion that they might be. If vampires and werewolves and fae and sirens all existed just on this planet, what might exist out in the rest of the universe? The possibilities were certainly endless. (And it helped, Cass figured, that the idea of whole worlds beyond the atmosphere, felt a lot less lonely than the absence of them.) “My Uber driver probably saw you and made a break for it, actually.”
Cass tried not to laugh at the woman’s nod. She really didn’t understand that ma’am, in this context, was the furthest from a respectable title. It made things so much better. “Wow, you mean it?” The sarcasm was thick in her tone, and she wondered if Vic would notice that or if she’d be too wrapped up in the desire for respect to recognize the lack of it.
A car drove by slowly on one of the side streets and, seeing an opportunity, Cass looked at her phone. She tapped at the screen, pretending to open a message and read it. “I was right,” she announced, “my Uber driver is skeeved out by you. He says you’re giving off real bad vibes. Wants me to meet him down the road.” She motioned towards where the slow-moving car had disappeared to. It might have been fun to stay and mess with Vic some more, but… if Cass ever wanted any hope of conning anyone in this neighborhood, she couldn’t hang around for long.
“Probably. They were probably intimidated by my beauty and poise”, Vic deadpanned back, wondering how long the two of them could go at it. The implication that she was naive for a lack of belief in the beyond was not lost on her, but there was literally nothing she cared about less than this girl’s opinion of her. It was all she could do not to squint her eyes at the girl and give her a threatening look. This was basically a child, after all, she probably shouldn’t scare her too much. “No. You’ll never be allowed that privilege”, she said, as if it held all the weight in the world. She tried again, with no avail, to glance at the kid’s phone, because if that was true, that Uber driver should be fired for being so rude.
“Well”, she huffed awkwardly as she watched the girl move toward the car, “Be safe”. She regretted it the moment it came out of her mouth, and jetted across the street in double time so the girl wouldn’t have a chance to comment on it. “And don’t forget! The next time I see you in front of my property, I’d better be having a nightmare!” It was probably no use- the car, and the girl, had already disappeared around the corner by the time she uttered her threat, but in truth, she wondered if they could do that again as soon as tomorrow.

Threading Our Future
Summary: When up-and-coming designer Virgil Psykhe lands an interview with his favourite fashion label, he has no idea that the attention he's drawn to himself is being taken away from someone very important: the Lady of the Summer Court. Scorned and furious, she sends her son to kill the insolent human.
But when Janus lays eyes on Virgil for the first time, his breath is stolen by the fluttering of his heart and he knows he won't be able to follow through with his mother's orders.
A modern fae re-telling of the Eros and Psyche myth!
Pairing: Virgil/Janus (background Logan/Patton) Characters: Virgil, Janus, Roman, Remy, Patton, Logan, Remus Rating: T Warnings: mild violence and blood mention, nonsexual nudity, literal sleeping together Word count: 10 363
-----
Virgil Psykhe groaned as he stood from his chair, bracing both hands against the small of his back and pressing until he felt a satisfying series of pops from his hips and up his spine. He should know better by now than to spend hours on end hunched over his projects without taking proper breaks, but he honestly couldn’t help it. Once he got focused, his whole world narrowed to sketch, cut, sew, trim. It was like he was possessed by some crazy spirit who deemed his sarcastic, introverted ass worthy enough to use as a vessel for creation. At least, that’s how he described the near-frenzy he would fall into when his worried fathers questioned after his health.
Was he getting enough sleep? (No.) When was the last time he’d had something to eat? (Did the granola bar he had earlier count?) Would he be willing to drink more water if Papa cut up some citrus to add? (Actually, that wasn’t a bad idea...)
He knew their fretting came from a place of love. As the youngest of three, he was the baby of the family. Both of his older sisters had married a few years ago, now living with their husbands in a couple of larger, nearby cities. They had told their parents the distant moves were for their husband’s jobs, but Virgil knew better. His sisters had never seemed to fit with the unique … energy of their small hometown.
Virgil, however, had yet to even move out, let alone find anyone who would want to spend the rest of their life with him. Thankfully, while his dads did want him to eventually find love, they were mostly just happy to support his dreams of becoming a famous designer.
Rolling his eyes, Virgil glanced around his cluttered studio. Like he would ever actually be a big name in the fashion industry. Yeah, sure, he wanted more than anything to get his designs out there for models of all backgrounds and appearances to showcase the beauty that was in every body type, but he didn’t want his first name attached to that kind of attention. Nope. No thanks. He would much rather people enjoy his work for what it was, not just because it came from him.
Maybe a pseudonym would work? Eh, he still had time to think about it anyway. It wasn’t like he was going to be traveling far from his studio in his dads’ basement any time soon after all. Picking up his phone, Virgil glanced at the time and cursed under his breath. Shit, he was late to meet up with Remy, and he had forgotten to plug his charger in. He groaned as he shoved his phone in his pocket anyway and grabbed his wallet, headphones, and house key. That drama queen was probably going to bitch and moan about being made to wait until Virgil finally agreed to pay for his drink. Not that Virgil really minded, but he had appearances to keep up.
With one last glance around to make sure he had everything, he dashed up the stairs to head out.
-----
Jogging down the street, Virgil turned past the Spirits’ Temple, where the town’s inhabitants left offerings to the spirits of the forest on the first of every month. Tradition claimed that each month was to be dedicated to one of the twelve local spirits who held dominion over different areas of day-to-day life, and that by honouring them, the town would prosper. At the height of the monthly festivals, there would be candles lining the marble steps, fake vines and string lights wrapped around the temple’s stone columns, and a wide spread of wine and honey-sweetened foods to be served. Some of this would be up for grabs on the buffet table, but a selection was always saved to be placed in one of the twelve bronze braziers, which one depended on the month, lining the sides of the temple. Each brazier was set in front of a stone statue carved with a symbol that denoted which spirit it belonged to.
At some point during the evening, everyone in town would take a moment to approach the massive fireplace along the back wall of the temple and toss in a part of their meal with a quietly murmured prayer for luck in some strange-sounding language. To this day, Virgil wasn’t sure what exactly he was saying, but his dad had taught him the correct pronunciation, and he was too superstitious not to follow through. Besides, it wasn’t like he could look too ridiculous doing it when literally everyone else was doing the same thing.
Approaching one of the two coffee shops in town, and the only one he ever frequented, Virgil shook his head to rid himself of thoughts of weird small-town rituals. Inside, it was easy to spot Remy sitting at their usual table with his sunglasses tucked into the front of his shirt and a drink already in hand. As he slid into his side of the booth, Virgil was surprised to see his favourite order (hot chocolate with whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles, and a slice of banana bread) already waiting for him.
“I was gonna apologize for being late, but clearly I don’t have to,” he said, glancing up and narrowing his eyes. “What did you do?”
Remy threw both hands up in a gesture of innocence. “Hey now, why did I have to do something wrong in order to surprise my best friend with his favourite goodies?”
Virgil snorted and crossed his arms, giving his friend a Look.
“Fine, fine!” Remy blew out a sigh and dropped his hands onto the table. “So, maybe I did do something, and maybe you’re gonna be a little mad at me for it, but I promise it’s okay! It’s gonna pay off and you’re totally going to thank me for this one day!”
Virgil dropped his face into his hands with a groan and dug the heels of his palms against his eyelids. “Just spit it out, Remy. What the fuck did you do?”
“Remember that photoshoot we did a couple weeks back with the latest ‘famous-one-day’ designs you sewed up?” Virgil could hear the familiar sounds of Remy typing on his phone. “Well babe, you’ve been making ‘one days’ for too long! So I decided to make ‘one day’ into ‘today’! Ta-dah!”
Bracing himself, Virgil peeked out from the dark safety of his hands, blinking a few times to clear his blurry vision and focus on the phone screen wavering in front of him. Right there, staring back at him from within Remy’s well-manicured clutch, was an email addressed to Penelope with attached photos from their shoot.
“Please, please tell me you didn’t sen-”
“I sent our pics to your favourite fashion label! The one and only Penelope! Known for their breathtaking lines like ‘Faith’ and ‘Fidelity’ that reimagined what it meant to be fashionable! And the best part!” Remy paused for dramatic effect, all but wiggling in his seat. “They emailed me back! They want to do an interview with you next month on the first!”
There was a loud thud as Virgil’s head met the table. If they hadn’t been sitting in public, he definitely would have started screaming too. Instead, all that came out was a muttered, “I fucking hate you. Why would you do this to me? You know I suck at talking to people; they’re gonna hate me and then tell all of the other companies to never work with me and then I’ll definitely never make it.”
A hand settled on top of his head and began to run through his hair, gently scratching at his scalp at the same time. “Don’t be so dramatic, Virge. This is gonna be great for you, I promise. When have I ever led you astray?”
Virgil glared at his friend and opened his mouth, but Remy cut him off.
“Ahp-ahp! Rhetorical question, babes. You're going to thank me for this, I promise.”
When Virgil remained silent, the hand that had been petting his hair slid down to cup his cheek and lift his chin up.
“Hey,” his best friend murmured softly. “If you really, really don’t want to do this, I can email them back and cancel, but I think you should go for it, Virge. This could be your big break!” Remy’s thumb had begun running a soothingly back and forth over his cheek. Virgil didn’t even try to hide the way he relaxed into the comforting gesture, leaning more weight into his friend’s palm. “I’ll even come with you to the interview, okay? I’ll be right there the entire time - gotta make sure they meet your number one model after all,” he added with a playful wink.
Damn Remy and his extroverted influence. Virgil sighed and sat up fully, reluctantly pulling away from the comforting hold and silently relieved when Remy’s hand dropped to link their fingers instead. “I guess as long as you’re there too, then I won’t be the only one making a fool of myself.”
“That’s the spirit!” Remy cheered, ignoring the looks some of the other patrons shot their way at the noise.
Keeping their hands interlocked, Virgil picked up his hot chocolate and took a sip of the sweet ambrosia as he listened to his best friend ramble about his plans for their future.
-----
Somehow, the word got out. Everyone and their cousin’s dog knew about Virgil’s interview and had seen some of the photos that had been leaked. All of them wanted to get a glimpse of not only the representatives of the big fashion label (who may as well have been celebrities to the small community), but also the unobtrusive young man who had brought the attention onto their town.
Virgil clung to Remy’s hand as they approached the café where the interview was going to be taking place. It wasn’t their usual haunt, something Virgil was grateful for; if things went south, he didn’t want that memory attached to one of his favourite places. People were already gathering outside, gossiping amongst themselves or attempting to peer through the front windows. He longed to pull his hood up and hide his face, but Papa had spent all morning helping him make sure his hair and make-up (and everything else) looked interview ready. Not to mention he wasn’t even wearing his favourite hoodie to tuck himself away into.
At Remy’s insistence, he had donned one of the outfits he made last year. The top was made of a flowy material, tighter at the wrists and loose in the arms, wrapping comfortably around his chest to tie in the front above his navel. It was sewn from a high-quality plum linen with a black lace webbing over top. For the bottom, Virgil had pieced together different shades of grey and black fabrics until he had a pair of loose patchwork pants that sat at the hips and left a strip of his stomach visible. He had completed the look with a fresh pair of high-tops that tied the look together despite the discordant styles. With one last look to his best friend for reassurance, Virgil nodded and they waded through the crowd together, on their way to their future.

Singing to herself, Roman stepped through the woods with all the ethereal grace granted to her by her station. As she made her way to the quaint little human town, Roman was accompanied by a pair of mourning doves. While one had alighted on her shoulder, the other fluttered about, and both were cooing in harmony with her otherworldly song.
Her body was draped in a sheer chiffon number, as blood-red as the wine she drank from each year at the celebration of her power and beauty. It was naught much more than a thin layer of fabric over one shoulder and wrapped about her shapely waist, exposing one breast and leaving little work for the imagination on the rest of her body. The finest embroidery coloured the lower hem with twisting rose vines, as if they had sprung from the ground she walked on and reached up for her attention. Her hair was left to tumble free, as wild and untamed as the waves she had been born from so long ago. The Lady of the Summer Court had arrived.
In no time at all, the temple the humans of the village had built for her and her compatriots so long ago came into view. Roman hurried her steps, eager to feast on the delightful offerings she knew would be awaiting her. She hoped one of them left pomegranate; it was her favourite. The plump fruit so easy to tear open to reveal the juicy flesh inside - and the crunchy seeds! Oh!
Grinning, Roman moved around the side of the temple, stepping between the columns to slip inside and make her way towards her ceremonial statue along the right with the other ruling gentry of the Seelie Court. However, when she got close enough to see into the massive dish, indignation began to boil in her blood. Before her, in her brazier, lay half as many offerings as were given to her in the years passed. She looked around, hoping to find something else had been set aside or misplaced, but there was nothing. Seething, she spun on her heel and stalked towards the front of the temple in search of answers.
Outside, two attendants were working to douse the remaining candles to be collected on the morrow after Roman had departed. Well, they were certainly going to be in for a surprise when they returned to find their pitiful offerings still there in the morning. Even with the great distance between them, as a fae, Roman’s sharp ears did not struggle to overhear the conversation between the two humans.
“-believe something like this could happen in our little town,” the one on the right was saying. “Especially from that quiet kid! What’d you say his name was again?”
“He’s the Psykhe’s youngest boy, Virgil.
“No kidding! Sam was telling me the kid showed up for the interview wearing this wild statement piece, like a full fashion runway. I bet his dads sure are proud. I heard half the town was outside Burnsen’s hoping to get a front-row seat. They certainly weren’t here, that’s for sure.”
“Damn shame,” the second human agreed. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a turn out this small for a Spirit’s Night. I just hope it doesn’t come back to bite us in the ass.”
The pair continued their gossip as they finished with the candles and moved onto tidying some of the other nonessential decorations. Roman wasn’t interested in listening any further; she had what she needed. Turning away from the pitiful little temple those putrid humans had so desecrated on her day of honour, the Lady of the Summer Court stormed back into the forest, seething vitriol.
“How dare these humans offer this worthless boy the worship and reverence meant for me! My status is all but set in the very stars and they do nothing more than drag it through the muddy earth!” She screeched, scaring away the doves who had been lingering nearby. “So much for me, the ancient mother of this forest who feeds and fosters the very nature of this place! If nothing lusts, then nothing reproduces! Did they ever consider that before they forced me to associate my status with a mere mortal child?”
As Roman cried out, the very trees parted for her, leaning their trunks away and raising their boughs out of the path of the furious fae. She paid them little heed as she marched down a trail long familiar. “Won’t this boy, whoever he is, be glad to know he has claimed the honours that are due to me by right? Not for much longer, this I swear by my very name! He will regret this beauty to which he has no claim!”
At the climax of her tirade, Roman stopped before the ivy-woven doors of her son’s lofty domain. She would teach this Virgil what happened when you scorned the fae.

Across town, still wearing the outfit and makeup from earlier, though much disheveled, Virgil ran as if his life depended on it. At this point, though, his life may as well have been over, so what was the point in struggling on? Down the street and through the park, he sprinted until he could go no further and crumbled to the ground at the top of the large hill that overlooked the fish ponds. On his hands and knees, he clutched at the damp earth and panted heavily through his heaving sobs.
It was over. Penelope didn’t want to pick him up as a designer. Sure, they liked the selection that Remy had sent them, enough to come talk to him about it, but when the representatives had taken a look through the rest of his portfolio? They hadn’t said they hated it outright, but Virgil was certain his designs were too gothic, too dark, too risky for mainstream fashion. They were going to talk with some of the higher-ups back at the designer studio, but Virgil wasn’t going to be holding his breath. He’d seen their expressions clear as day while they flipped through his work.
Collapsing forward, Virgil buried his face into the crook of his elbow and curled his knees towards his chest, sobbing even harder. He had told Remy after the interview that he needed some space, but now that he was out here alone, he wanted nothing more than a hug from his best friend. Fuck, how was he going to tell his dads about this? It would break their heart!
Virgil shook his head free of the thought; he couldn’t handle any more right now. So he lay on the ground with his cheek pressed against the cool night grass, and cried until he passed out from exhaustion.
-----
In the twilight between wakefulness and sleep, Virgil stirred when he felt a pair of arms slide under his body and hoist him up into a strong hold. His head lolled to the side until his temple dropped against a firm body. Then, a kiss was pressed to his forehead, tickling his skin with...a mustache?
“Go back to sleep, little human,” a high, scratchy-sounding voice said. “Jay doesn’t want you to see anything just yet! We don’t want to ruin the surprise, eh?”
Virgil’s face scrunched in confusion, but before he could crack his eyes open to see who was carrying him, a warm breath blew across his face and carried him off to his dreams like a gentle breeze spiraling high into the air.
-----
When Virgil woke for the second time, it was with far more peace and tranquility than he usually felt when greeting the day. His bed was extra soft and luxurious beneath the swell of his hip and he was comfortably warm, though he couldn’t feel the usual weight of his blanket. Stretching his arms far above his head, Virgil suddenly snapped his eyes open when his fingertips were greeted not with the hard wall behind his headboard, but with a damp, spongy texture instead.
Scrambled to his feet, he looked around to discover he was at the edge of a clearing, carpeted with a thick moss that his feet sank slightly into and surrounded by trees who towered so far above him their canopies seemed lost secrets of the sky. To one side a stream babbled a song, its waters bright as day and clear as glass. Breathless, he turned a slow circle, feasting on the seemingly supernatural wonders with starving eyes. The sight that greeted Virgil as he turned full around, however, could have subsisted him for a lifetime.
At the very heart of the grove, sitting in its focal point, rose what he could only describe as a palace. The trees which made up its supporting columns were an ivory birch, though much wider than any Virgil had ever seen, with leaves seemingly grown from pure gold that glittered in the dappled sunlight they let through. Framed by these otherworldly goliaths, ivy vines had been woven together to form a grand door which opened of its own accord and bid Virgil to enter. Under a spell spun from his own awe and curiosity (and probably some of whatever magic this place had to be made of), Virgil strode forward.
Inside, the palace seemed to emulate its own light, reflecting off the vaulted ceiling and highlighting the polished stone walls decorated with endless silver reliefs of animals real and imagined. Virgil trailed his fingertips along the slithering spine of a snake as he passed, admiring the lifelike detail in each scale, but before he could venture much further, a voice spoke.
“Welcome.”
Virgil jumped, spinning around to search for the source of the voice, but no one was there. When they spoke again, it sounded like they were right over his shoulder.
“You have been invited into the home of the fae as a guest of honour, Virgil.” The man in question felt a strange twinge in his chest hearing his name from the voice. “If you follow the doors to your left, you will find a dining hall in which you may eat your fill; the foods are from your home world and you need not fear consuming them. To your right lay the bathing and bed chambers. Please, make yourself at home. You are safe here, my darling.”
“Who are you? How do you know my name?” Virgil called out into the empty room.
There was a small pause before the voice replied. “You may call me Janus for the time being. It matters not how I know your name, but you need not worry that I will give it to anyone else.”
“Not creepy at all,” Virgil murmured before raising his voice once more. “Where are you? Why can’t I see you?”
“Ahh, my darling, take care with your curiosity before it gets you into trouble. Fret not, I am here with you, though you cannot see me. I know it is hard, but you must trust in me, my love. I shall visit you this evening after the light of day has given way to the dark of night. So long as you promise not to look upon my face and let me remain shrouded in shadows, then I shall answer more of your questions then.”
“What? I’m supposed to trust you, but I’m not allowed to look at your face? What the fuck, dude?”
“I understand this may be a cause for alarm, but you must understand my perspective, dear one. If you were to gaze upon me uninhibited, I fear you would not fall in love with me in a manner which would be best for us both. Promise to me, Virgil.”
“Okay, okay, I promise. Why is this so important to you anyway?”
“Thank you. I wish to form a genuine bond with you, beloved, and I cannot do that if you are influenced by my appearance. That is not how I desire to court my future husband.”
“Husband? What do you mean future husband!?”
Virgil stood in place, waiting for any further response from the invisible person, but it seemed his host had vanished into the very air he spoke from. Blowing out a heavy sigh, Virgil looked from left to right and decided the faint grumbling in his abdomen was something he could ignore for the time being; he probably wouldn’t be able to stomach anything right now anyway. So, he made his way towards the baths, hoping a splash of cool water could wake him from this crazy dream.
Unfortunately, even after dunking his head under the cool water, Virgil was still stuck in the extravagant palace with an invisible host. He braced his hands on the sides of the stone bowl carved from the wall, staring blankly at the trickling waterfall that fed into the dish he had rinsed in. How the fuck did he get into this mess? The voice had mentioned something about this place belonging to the fae? What the fuck? There’s no way any of this could be real. Well, that Janus had said he would answer Virgil’s questions tonight, so there seemed little more he could do than wait.
The bedroom he had been given was grand, far larger than even his entire basement suite back home, and all of its drapings were more luxurious than Virgil had ever seen. He ran his fingers down the curtains that hung from the bedposts, marvelling at the quality and the depth of the colour. What he wouldn’t give to be able to create with fabrics of this pedigree. He fiddled with the tie of his shirt around his middle and settled onto one of the plush armchairs by the window. Now, to wait.
-----
Hours later, Virgil was startled awake from a light doze by the sound of footsteps approaching his door. He scrambled to his feet, keeping one hand braced on a bedpost to orient himself as he squinted through the darkness. It was so dark he couldn’t even make out the vague outlines of the furniture around the room.
The door opened.
Virgil tensed, gripping the bedpost tighter and raising his other arm in front of him defensively. From what he could see, backlit from the hall, the figure entering the room was about his height, maybe a little taller. It was difficult to make out in the dark, but the shadow he cast onto the floor seemed to be larger than his body mass would produce. The door closed, leaving the two of them alone in the dark.
“Janus?” Virgil asked nervously, hoping there wasn’t anyone else in the palace who would be coming into his room this late at night.
“Breathe, Virgil, it is only me.”
It was as if a spell of calm soothed over him, easing the tension from around his neck and within his chest. Virgil took a deep, relieving breath. Janus hadn’t come any further into the room, seemingly content to linger by the door.
“Um… hi?” Virgil winced at how awkward he sounded, but continued on regardless. “You said you would answer more of my questions, right?”
“That is correct, beloved. I will tell you as much as I am able to at this time.” There was the sound of shuffling in the dark. “May I join you on the bed? I think we will both be much more comfortable being seated for this conversation.”
Virgil bit his lip, looking between the bed and Janus despite not being able to see either. Eventually, he nodded, and then blushed when he realized what he’d done.
“Yeah… yeah, you can come sit over here, I guess.”
“Thank you, my darling.”
When the pair had gotten settled, Janus was seated at the foot of the bed, leaning up against the bedpost and seemingly unbothered by the strange situation. Virgil, on the other hand, had his back pressed against the headboard with his knees hugged to his chest. His feet were buried in the blankets and he was absently scrunching the soft material under his toes in a comforting, rhythmic motion. It was Janus who broke the silence first.
“What would you ask of me first, dearest?”
Virgil blew out a sigh. “Why did you bring me here? What are you going to do with me? Am I ever going to be allowed to go home? Will you-”
"Sh sh sh,” Janus crooned, “One at a time, beloved, all will be answered. In short, I do not know when you will be able to return to your home, or if you ever will, but it is for your own good!” Janus hurriedly added before Virgil could panic. “You see, there is someone very powerful who is very angry with you. Intentionally or not, you have caused her a great disrespect, and she will not rest until her dues have been met.”
“How do you know all of this?”
Janus sighed. “Because she is my mother, and she sent me to kill you.”
“What!?” Virgil screeched, throwing himself off the bed and slamming against the nearby wall. His nails scrabbled at the stone, desperate to clutch, claw, escape. No, no, no, he didn’t want to die! He snapped his head back and forth, searching for any sort of way out, but he was blinded by shadows and fear. A sharp cry escaped him when a hand suddenly wrapped around one of his own and he whimpered as it squeezed, expecting pain. Instead, a gentle crooning cut through the ringing in his ears.
“Breathe, Virgil, you are not in danger. You must calm down and listen.”
Janus’ voice was surprisingly tender for how powerfully it could be heard through Virgil’s panic. He was able to focus on it like a tether to pull himself into a more relaxed state of mind. At some point, he had begun to time his breathing with Janus’ as well, steady and even to a count known only to the fae holding him. When Virgil had relaxed enough to come back to himself, he tensed all over again, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
“How can you say I’m safe, when you’re gonna kill me?”
“Because I have no intentions of killing you,” Janus replied, now cradling both of Virgil’s hands to his chest. Even this close, the darkness was so impenetrably thick that Virgil had no hope of glimpsing his face. He kept his eyes averted regardless. “I brought you here to remove you from my mother’s gaze and conceal you from her misplaced wrath.”
Virgil was silent, processing, as Janus gently tugged on his hands and guided him back onto the bed. There, the fae leaned against the headboard with his legs stretched out in front of him and carefully pulled Virgil to recline on his chest. Virgil resisted for only a moment before complying. Everything else about this was already way out of his depth to manage, he may as well allow himself to be comfortable wherever he could. Janus was either going to kill him or leave him alive, and there likely wasn’t anything Virgil could do to sway that decision at this point. So, Virgil settled himself against Janus’ chest with his body laying between Janus’ legs and stretching out until their legs tangled together. He was grateful now for the dark that hid a probably searing blush as his cheek pressed flush against the fae’s warm skin; Janus wasn’t wearing a shirt and his nude torso was warm to cuddle against.
“Now,” Janus murmured, shifting Virgil’s focus from his embarrassment to the situation at hand. His fingers ran over Virgil’s scalp and through his hair, carefully brushing out any tangles and soothing in the same motion. “If you will let me continue, I was going to say my mother had ordered for you to be killed, however, I do not agree with her decision. She is acting rashly over a slight you did not directly commit.”
“What did I even do to piss her off so bad?” Virgil murmured from where his face was tucked against Janus’ collar, resting more of his weight closer with each breath.
“I do not know the exact details, only that you were the cause for drawing her worshippers away from the temple on her day of adulation. The fae do not take kindly to being stolen from, especially not my mother.”
“The interview,” Virgil breathed in horror. Pushing himself upright, he clutched at Janus’ arm. “I swear, I didn’t mean for everyone to skip out on the Spirit’s Festival! If it had been up to me, none of them would have even been at the cafe! I didn’t want them there, you have to believe me!”
“Calm yourself, beloved. I believe that you did not intentionally act to anger her. However, you must understand that even a perceived slight is considered very real and serious to the fae. That is why you must remain here under my protection, until my mother’s ire cools or I can convince her to redirect her anger.”
As Janus fell silent, Virgil curled in again and pondered what he had been told, trying to remember anything he could about the fae. It wasn’t like there was one consistent guidebook he could follow, but some of the stories the older people used to tell his grade school classes at the library were starting to make a little more sense now. He had been told the forest couldn’t lie, so maybe that meant the fae were bound by the truth? A stretch, sure, but weren’t all myths rooted somehow in reality? They were also regularly told that the spirits of the forest loved beauty, especially in the form of attractive people, and could bestow gifts on those they enjoyed looking upon. Virgil had always felt so disheartened hearing that. He wasn’t anything special, just a plain-looking boy, so the forest would never favour him.
Why then had Janus?
“So,” Virgil broke into the quiet, “you supposedly brought me here to protect me from your mother, but that doesn’t explain why you called me your future husband earlier.”
Janus hummed. “When I set out to observe the human who had offended my mother, I was prepared to be faced with a disgusting example of your kind. What I found instead was the most beautiful face I had ever laid eyes on.” Virgil gasped when the hand that had been in his hair slipped down to cup his cheek and tilt his chin up. He felt a pair of lips brush so lightly against his forehead that he thought he imagined it. “You were sobbing so hard for a deeply rooted pain. I found myself desiring nothing more than to stop your tears and see how much your already breathtaking countenance would shine when lit by a smile.”
“I - you -”
Virgil was sure that he had been kissed before, because now he felt those lips curl into a smile.
“Is it so hard to believe you are so attractive?”
“Well, yeah,” Virgil huffed, his eyes closed as he leaned into Janus’ palm. “It’s not like I heard it all that often.”
“Mmm, I shall have to change that, then,” Janus whispered, resting his cheek on Virgil’s head, cradling him close once more. “Do you have any more questions, beloved? If not, it is time for you to rest, you’ve had a long day.”
The gentle petting and warm embrace were taking their toll on Virgil’s exhausted mind. He let himself rest heavily on Janus, nuzzling his face into the crook of his neck and wrapping an arm around the fae’s chest. “Jus’ one,” he murmured, voice already dipping into that sleepy slur. “Wanna make sure m’dads know ‘m safe…”
“I’ll see what I can do, my love. Rest now, Virgil.”
Like a spell had been cast over him, Virgil drifted off to a dreamless sleep.
-----
When Virgil had awoken, he was alone in the massive bed. He was surprised to feel a twinge of disappointment in his chest, having hoped Janus would stay despite the fae not wanting to show his face. Sighing, he slid out of bed and got himself ready for the day, slipping into some comfortable clothes he found in a set of drawers. When he came down for breakfast, his host’s invisible voice greeted him and informed him that his dads had been told of the situation and were relieved Virgil was alive and relatively safe.
The next few days played out much the same. Virgil was left to his own devices during the day, waited on by some sort of invisible staff as he explored the palace. He never saw another soul, but whenever he needed something, he learned to simply call out for it and it would be delivered to him by magic.
Each night, Janus would arrive in his bedroom once the sun had disappeared. He never asked for more than Virgil was willing to give, but Virgil found himself cuddled close every night without fail. They would speak for hours - about Virgil’s dreams, his dads, and Remy - nothing was too simple for Janus to inquire about. The fae was fascinated by every aspect of human life, and Virgil enjoyed discovering a sense of romantic joy over the little things he had experienced. There was something about Janus that soothed away the ever-present worries that were always yelling inside Virgil’s head.
There was one worry that couldn’t be silenced, however. No matter how much Virgil was coming to trust his protector, he could not ignore the fact that he had no idea what Janus even looked like. It was eating away at him not to know, and the longer he sat alone, the Janus in his head looked more and more like a monster waiting to prey upon him. This couldn’t go on. He had to know.
-----
During the day before he was going to enact his plan, Virgil spent his time in the massive library he had discovered on the second day, scanning the shelves and making a show of selecting a couple books. He made himself comfortable in one of the oversized cushions piled near the floor-to-ceiling window and pretended to read. Between absently scanning the pages, Virgil looked up and glanced around the room, as if his mind were wandering with the tale he was apparently focused on. In reality, he was scouring the room for ideas.
Countless candles were lit around the library, their wax melting at different stages, some newly pooling while others formed thick layers around the base of the candelabras. They were lit now, but there was no way for him to have an already burning flame in the bedroom when Janus arrived for the night. He would have to find some way to light one on his own. Maybe he could just -
“Excuse me?” He called into the air. “Could I please have more candles, and some matches for them? I want to go read in my room, but, um, the smell is really nice in here.”
Like always, the items he requested popped into existence on a low table nearby: three candles and a pair of matches. Huh, he hadn’t actually thought that was going to work.
“Thank you!”
Hugging both books to his chest, Virgil collected his new tools and jogged up to his room. There, he placed the candles onto the small table between the armchairs and lit them with a match. The second match, he carefully tucked inside the front knot of his shirt, pressing against his breast. Now prepared, he settled in to actually focus on the novel he had picked up. There was nothing but time to kill.
-----
By the time Janus arrived, Virgil had already blown out the candles and crawled into bed. He cuddled in as soon as Janus had laid down, laying his head on the fae’s chest and trying to keep his breathing steady as they fell into their usually nighttime conversation. Janus’ claws delicately traced the bumps of his spine the entire time they spoke.
Once Virgil was sure Janus had fallen asleep, he began the slow process of extracting himself from the fae’s embrace. Janus really was a cuddler, and loved to hold Virgil close while they slept, but thankfully he was also quite a deep sleeper. Virgil was able to carefully pull himself away and tuck a pillow into Janus’ arms. The fae squished it to his chest and curled onto his side, none the wiser.
Breathing a sigh of relief, Virgil went to work. He grabbed one of the candles and fished the match out from under his shirt, striking it against the table to light it. One hand held onto the base of the candle, while the other carefully cupped around the flame, protecting it as Virgil walked around to the other side of the bed where Janus lay. With a deep breath to steady himself, he pulled his hand away and gasped at the sight in front of him.
Janus never wore a shirt, which meant Virgil’s hands had felt the broad expanse of his naked back every night they had slept together. That didn’t explain why there were now a pair of gorgeous, tawny wings sprouting from between Janus’ shoulder blades. The feathers looked softer than anything Virgil could imagine and shined like spun gold in the candlelight. Virgil ached to caress the speckled feathers, to scrunch his fingers in the fluffy down near the wings’ base, but as he reached out, Janus rolled over and Virgil’s breath was punched from his lungs. The face of his protector was carved by the gods. Janus’ skin was a rich, dark brown, reflecting the candle light to accent his strong jaw and sharp cheekbones. Virgil could only imagine what colour his eyes could be behind his lids, framed by perfectly shaped brows and a shapely nose. Oh! Those lips! So plump and full! What would they feel like pressed against his own?
Enraptured, Virgil tried to get a better look, but as he leaned forward, some of the melted wax from the candle spilled over and landed on Janus’ cheek. The fae yelped, startling awake and clutching at his face as he threw himself upright. Virgil jumped back in shock, falling on his ass while somehow keeping the candle lit. The clatter drew Janus’ attention and his head snapped to the side to look at Virgil, who saw the moment Janus’ eyes widened with understanding and heartbreaking betrayal.
“You promised!” Janus hissed. “You promised me you wouldn’t look! Does your word mean so little to you!?”
“N-No - I, I just, I wanted-”
“What!? What was so important that you had to break your promise?”
“I wanted to, to make sure you weren’t some sort of … monster … who had kidnapped me to… to eat me,” Virgil muttered, suddenly feeling incredibly foolish. Why did he have to give in to his anxieties so easily? The next moment, his heart crumpled with Janus’ expression.
“Get out.”
“Wait, what?”
“I said. Get. Out.” Janus growled, spreading his wings high above his head as he leaned over the edge of the bed. “Get out of my sight, and out of my home! If you cannot hold to one simple promise, then I will not protect you! You can deal with my mother’s wrath on your own!”
About to protest, Virgil cried out in fear as Janus slashed out him, narrowly missing his face with those lethal claws. He didn’t waste any more time, dropping the candle and scrambling to his feet to run out of the bedroom. The empty halls echoed with his laboured breathing and the slap of his bare feet against the tiled floor as he sprinted through the palace and out the ivy-woven doors. The moment he was out, the doors slammed shut behind him.
Panting heavily, Virgil bent over with his hands on his knees, his entire body trembling from fear and exertion. He dropped to the ground and clutched his head in both hands, curling smaller and crying as silently as he could muster. It was a long time before his breathing evened out and he was able to drag himself back to his feet.
A glance around the clearing revealed what he had known upon his first arrival: he had no idea where in the forest he was, or which way led back home. So, he did the only thing he could and picked a direction to start walking. Through the night he stumbled over roots and around tangled shrubs, not stopping until he finally tripped over his own exhausted feet and fell into the shockingly cold waters of a stream. He spluttered and gasped, miserably dragging himself back up the bank. The sun was rising overhead, the forest waking up around him; he didn’t have the time to huddle here in a ball feeling sorry for himself.
-----
As the day progressed, Virgil noticed the trees beginning to thin and the gaps between the trunks growing wider. Suddenly, the canopy overhead parted to reveal a mountain, vast and tall, that should have been visible long before this moment. Placed at irregular intervals up the cliffside were six palaces woven of different plants woven together with even more grandeur than Janus’ home. Over the edge of the mountain, the tips and edges of presumably more palaces - these ones sculpted and shaped from various stones - were visible against the pale sky.
Virgil squinted, trying to get a better look at the strangely familiar shapes carved into the rock face near each palace. He gasped. The symbols matched those carved into the statues above the bronze dishes in the Spirit’s Temple, more specifically, the dishes meant for the spirits honoured in the spring and summer. That would mean - there! On the left! Beneath a palace of myrtle trees and rose vines, was the symbol belonging to the seventh spirit. That had to be the home of Janus’ mother, the spirit - or fae, rather - who was supposed to have been honoured at the start of this month.
Biting his lip, Virgil looked back the way he came then up at the palace once more. If what Janus said was true, and he wasn’t going to be offering protection anymore, then Virgil would have to face her on his own. It was either that, or cowering away until she tracked him down and killed him. Also not a desirable option, but Virgil would rather have some form of control over the end of his life. Beginning to climb, he just wished he would have been able to say goodbye to his dads first.
While there were worn deer trails to follow, the journey was not an easy one. Virgil had to cling to the rocks, heaving himself ever upwards, trying not to slice his bare feet or palms on the uneven shale. The summer sun climbed alongside him, growing hotter and hotter, sapping his energy and strength. Still, he pushed on until he stood before the lush gates shaking with exhaustion and dizzy from the heat.
Before he could gather his wits, the thorny vines that sealed the palace from the outside world began to withdraw. Where they parted, massive sanguine roses bloomed, as if to cushion a passerby from the sharp thorns. From within the depths of the palace strode out a figure so radiant and commanding, Virgil immediately felt subservient to her will. He quickly looked away, cheeks hot, as both of her breasts were exposed and only a lightweight wrap covered her lower body. His body recoiled when her piercing laugh broke the silence.
“Finally! The wretched beast comes crawling to its master, the Lady of the Summer Court. Had enough of playing at royalty, have you? Look at me when I’m talking to you, Virgil!”
Virgil immediately snapped his head back towards her, paling when his eyes met with her seething ire, but unable to drop his gaze any lower. He gripped the sides of his pants with white knuckles. “I - I’m so, so sorry! I n-never meant-”
“Look at this!” The fae cut in, causing Virgil to flinch again. “The pathetic mortal trying to inspire pity from me with your anxiety and melancholy! I will not be made a fool and relegated to some cheap handmaiden!”
With a shriek of rage, the Lady of Summer darted forward faster than Virgil’s eyes could track. The next moment, he was sprawled on the ground, ears ringing. He brought a shaky hand up to his stinging cheek and felt his stomach drop when his fingertips came away bloody. Rolling onto his back, he choked. The Lady was looming over him, one of her hands dripping with his blood as she pinned him down with a foot on his chest.
“It seems only fair to me, mortal, that I give you some chance to win back my good graces. Therefore, you shall complete a task for me, or else I will take your life as compensation for your disrespect.” The Lady of Summer announced with a wave of her hand. Virgil looked to the side, wincing as the cuts in his cheek dug into the gravel, and watched in surprise as a pile of mixed grains appeared nearby.
“You will sort this mass and disarray of seeds - wheat, barley, millet, poppy, chickpea, and lentil - into individual piles. I will know if a single grain lays with the wrong group. You have until this evening.” With that, the Lady of Summer kicked off his ribs and spun her skirts, vanishing into thin air with a flourish and leaving only the heady scent of roses as a sign of her presence.
Virgil lay on the ground in silence for a long time after she disappeared, barely daring to breathe. When he was finally able to bring himself to move, he slowly rolled onto his hands and knees, hissing at the pain in his ribs - definitely bruised. Crawling over to the pile of seeds, he reached a hand out but hesitated before he could touch the tiny grains. How the fuck was he supposed to sort these? He could hardly begin to tell them apart! Sitting back on his ass, Virgil dropped his face into his hands and burst into tears.
Then, he heard a high-pitched giggle.
Flitting to-and-fro above him were four - five - eight, no - seven? Seven little pixies were spinning, twirling, dancing through the air above him. Their bright, insect-like wings caught the sunlight and sent out flashes of colour like a rainbow in motion. One-by-one they drifted to the ground, settling in a half circle in front of Virgil and his miserable collection of seeds. They stood only several inches tall and were dressed in leaves and petals. A pair stepped forward in front of the rest; they were holding hands.
“Hello, hello!” The one on the right chirped, waving up with his free hand. He had gorgeous light blue butterfly wings that fluttered when he spoke. “We heard you crying and came to see, to see! What happened here, here?”
Virgil sniffled, wiping away his tears and snot on his sleeve. “Well, um,” he hiccupped and took a deep breath. “It’s the Lady of the Summer Court. She wants me to sort all of these seeds by type before tonight, but I have no idea how I’m going to do that so she’s definitely going to kill me!” He slapped a hand over his mouth to muffle a sob, tears running down his face.
“Easy now,” a new voice murmured as two little hands pressed against his knee. Virgil blinked his eyes open to see the second pixie - this one with veiny wings like a beetle’s - rubbing his leg soothingly. “You need to take slow, deep breaths to calm yourself.”
Virgil nodded and attempted to follow suit, counting to four on each inhale and exhale until the tears had slowed and he was able to relax somewhat to continue the conversation. “Th-thank you, um, what are your names?”
“You can call me Pat, Pat!” The first pixie announced twirling himself up into the air and drifting back down again.
“Ah, so you are quite new around here,” the second pixie mused, keeping his hands on Virgil’s leg. “You may call me Lo. Names have great power to the fae and it is imperative that you do not give yours away lightly, else someone may have complete control over your will.”
“But the Lady of the Summer Court already knows my name, and so did Jan- her son.”
“At any point did you give it to them, though?”
Virgil thought back over the last few weeks. “No… no, they both just, sorta, knew it somehow. Oh, uh, I guess you can call me Vee, then?”
Lo nodded. “Then it is likely they only heard your name somewhere, but they do not own it. Do you understand? They can exert some measure of power over you, but they cannot remove your free will entirely. Now then. Why is it the Lady wants you dead?” The pixie offered a small smile, nodding his head as Virgil explained how he got into this situation, that he knew Janus (though he referred to him as Jay), and why he wasn’t with the other fae anymore. When he finished, it was Pat who puffed up angrily.
“The Lady has gone too far, too far! You didn’t mean to make those people leave, leave! And it sounds like you didn’t actually make a binding promise, so Jay is acting a bit silly, bit silly. So, we’re gonna help you sort these seeds, and get everything cleared up, up!”
Logan nodded in agreement. “Indeed. Pat, you stay here with the others to aid Vee. I am going to go have a word with our feathered friend.” With that, Lo leaned in, kissed Pat’s cheek, and flew off down the mountainside.
Virgil watched the glint of Lo’s wings until he was out of sight, then turned back to the remaining pixies to watch as their quick, tiny hands got to work on the grains. “So… how do you know Jay?
Pat grinned widely up at him. “Jay is one of the Princes of Spring, Spring!” He works with love magic, and helped Lo and I get together decades ago in exchange for our help weaving that pretty gate in front of his palace, his palace!”
While they continued to converse, the pixies worked away at the seeds to form six unique piles, sorted from darkest to lightest. Before long, the entire jumbled mass had been reorganized without a single seed out of place. Once their job was complete, the five other pixies twittered their goodbyes and flew off up the mountain. Only Pat remained, sitting on his knee and chattering away as the sun set. Virgil shivered as a chill breeze licked at his exposed skin.
A sudden snap rent the night air, spooking Virgil, who lurched forward to cradle Pat in his hands protectively. Looking over his shoulder, he felt like vomiting when he saw the Lady of Summer standing over the grain piles with her arms crossed. He internally thanked any of the spirits who may be on his side that her chest was covered this time.
“This is not your work,” she hissed. “These were not organized by your hand, but by his!” She pointed an accusing finger at Pat, who had been peeking around Virgil’s arm but quickly hid back against his chest at the attention. “How dare you attempt to deceive me, you cretin!”
With a wordless shriek, the Lady lashed out with her vicious claws, aiming for the unmarked side of Virgil’s face. He scrambled back on his hands and heels, his ass dragging on the ground while Pat clung to the front of his shirt. Before she could take a second swipe, however, the dust and grit kicked up around them, obscuring their vision.
With his eyes covered, Virgil could only hear the flapping of large wings that cut off before there was the thud of a body dropping in front of him. Opening his eyes, he gasped. There, with his back to Virgil, stood Janus, with his great wings spread wide and his claws flexed at his sides. Lo, who had been holding onto the fae’s shoulder, now zipped down to the pair on the ground, holding Pat close and ensuring he was unharmed while the pixies huddled together on Virgil’s lap.
“You will not lay another hand on him,” Janus hissed, standing over Virgil protectively. Virgil felt Pat grip his thumb, but he couldn’t look away from the pair above them.
“What are you doing? Get out of the way, my son.”
“No. You wanted your revenge on him, and you got it. Look at him; he’s terrified, injured, and exhausted. The original disrespect against you was not even intentionally caused by him; it was the doing of numerous others. I do not fault you for your affront, but you are carrying on like a tantruming toddler!”
The Lady of Summer took a step back and clutched at her bosom. “You dare to speak to me like that?”
“I do, and so does the rest of the Seelie Court.” Virgil watched as Janus rolled his shoulders back and stood straighter. The Prince of Spring then reached into a bag tied at his hip and pulled out some sort of wooden charm dangling from a hemp rope. At the sight of it the Lady of Summer gasped and covered her mouth. “I have spoken before the Queen and her retinue, and she has decreed you will leave this mortal alone. In exchange, he will return to his town and gather a proper celebration for you by the end of this month.”
Virgil held his breath, not daring to twitch a muscle as he awaited his fate. The Lady of Summer let nothing show in her expression, but the hard lines of her face had softened attractively as Janus spoke. She shifted, looking over Janus shoulder and directly at Virgil. “You. You will do as this deal demands?”
Nodding rapidly, Virgil held up his hand in oath. “I will, I promise. I’ll go back home and speak with the curator of the Spirit’s Temple. We’ll host another festival and you’ll get the offerings you were supposed to be given at the start of the month.”
As if a switch had been flipped, the Lady of the Summer Court beamed a smile and grasped her hands over her heart. “Well then! That wasn’t so hard, was it! My dear, smart son, finding a way to set things right. I’m so proud of you, my little songbird.” Looking at her son, she cooed and cupped Janus’ cheek to tilt him up to kiss his forehead, smiling at his grumbling. “I won’t linger much longer, don’t you worry. I wouldn’t want to embarrass you in front of my future son-in-law after all! I’ll see you soon, Virgil, dear,” she called, a cool edge to her voice for a moment before she smiled brightly once more and waggled her fingers. With a dramatic wave of her hands, the Lady of Summer vanished once more.
A quiet settled over the remaining quartet, broken by a tinny clearing of a throat. Lo stood in Virgil’s lap, tugging Pat up next to him. “I believe it is time for us to depart as well. I am relieved we were able to arrive in time to prevent any harm coming to you, Vee.” The pixie looked from Janus to Virgil and smiled. “Let us know when you are in the woods, we would enjoy visiting under more ideal circumstances. Farewell, for now.”
“Goodbye, Vee, Vee!”
In a flash, the pair of pixies flew off into the night, their hands held tight together. They flew loops and circles over the others before darting off in the direction the other pixies had traveled hours ago.
On the ground, Janus helped Virgil to his feet. He cooed in sympathy, tenderly touching the tips of his fingers beneath the angry red cuts on Virgil’s cheek. “I am so sorry for what she has done to you, darling. And I am even more sorry that my own actions drove you from the safety of my side. I was meant to protect you from unearned rage, but instead I subjected you to further punishment and drove you towards your would-be killer. If I hadn’t gotten here in time-” Janus exhaled heavily, his wings sagging behind him. “I am so sorry, Virgil.”
“I mean, I’m not gonna say it’s okay, because none of this has been okay, but, I guess I can understand where you were coming from. If I were as attractive as you, I’d also be worried about people taking advantage of me.” Virgil blushed and dragged his big toe through the dirt. “So, yeah, I forgive you, or whatever.” He looked up with a fire in his eyes and jabbed his finger into the center of Janus’ chest. “But don’t you ever do that again, you hear me?”
Janus hands cupped around his own, cradling it close. “I swear, to the end of my days, I will treat you with the dignity and respect you deserve, my dearest.”
Despite the tenderness of the gesture, Virgil was unmoved. “I mean it, Janus. If you want us to work out, then I can’t be afraid that you’re going to banish me from your home every time you get upset. It’s not a relationship if you’re going to treat me like I’m disposable. I’m worth more than that. If you want more reassurance, or something, on my promises, then we can work something out, but what you put me through was terrifying, and I can’t go through it again. I won’t.”
Janus sighed, holding Virgil’s hands up to his lips and resting there a moment before slowly gathering Virgil into his arms. His embrace was loose enough to break, if Virgil wanted. “I understand, darling, and I will never be able to apologize enough for what I have done. However, it is not my words you want, but my actions, and I will do whatever you desire of me in order to make it up to you.” He cupped Virgil’s uninjured cheek. “I want us to work, too.”
There was a long pause as Virgil searched Janus’ golden eyes for any signs of deception. When he found only an earnest honesty, Virgil allowed himself to be held closer. He wasn’t sure which of them moved next, but they came together as one, lips pressing softly at first before quickly gaining heat. Then he was spun and dipped down, laughing hard as he clung to Janus’ shoulders, the fae’s wings held aloft to keep them balanced.
Maybe ‘future husband’ didn’t sound so bad after all.
