Today’s bug friend is a male black swallowtail—our state butterfly!

My folks found him lying on the grass by their house and when he hadn’t moved after half an hour they thought he might be dead. I got down to look closer and saw he was moving a little so I offered a finger for a ride to somewhere he wouldn’t get stepped on. He climbed right on! #disneyprincessmoment

Once gently let off onto mom’s chrysanthemum he started opening and closing his wings slowly. We noticed a little tear on his right forewing, but just a few minutes later I went back to check on him and he was gone and nowhere to be found in the yard, so hopefully he fluttered away safely!
