About the job: Disney English. I will be teaching English to Chinese children in Shanghai in China through the Disney Company. I am almost in my 2nd full year working for the Disney company and I love every second of it! I was born to make magic it seems to me and I love making people smile. I have been teaching for the last 2 years as well at an inner city school. I have taught many grades in my short amount of time but have found working with children the most rewarding. Everything is new to them and they love to learn. I can't wait to spread that magic to children on the other side of the world! Reasons I need the money: I need the money because getting the visa is not cheap. I have to get a new passport $160 , authenticate 2 documents $200 each, Doctors visits and shots have come around $350, and the actual visa costs $300. I also need to have money for an apartment when I get over there. I need to pay the down payment and the first months rent before the company starts paying the rent for me. I will be put up in a hotel for 21 days and in that time is when I have to find a place to live in Shanghai. I also will get there Aug 23rd and won't get paid until October 1st (paid monthly) so I need a little to help me eat while I am over there. Before I go I also need to buy new uniform pants and shoes and a belt for Chinese clothing will be way too small for me. I actually do not own a pair of khakis, can you believe that, and that is the uniform over there.   I hope this information helps you donate to my cause. Hello, This is Becca. Things to do

It seems like the things I need to do to get ready come in a neverending stream

Complete my commitments with Last Night of Ballyhoo and Richard III. Help WCT find and train a new volunteer coordinator. Spend as much time as I can with family and friends, making sure that I at least see all my siblings, parents, and grandparents. (Have plans already to see parents, one brother, and one set of grandparents over spring break. My sister and another brother I can catch in one way too short weekend and my other grandparents another short weekend. The problem will be seeing my oldest brother. My free weekends are scarce and a plane ticket to Chicago is expensive. Everyone else, if you don't live in Wichita, I'm sorry, but I probably won't be able to see you. This is all coming up too fast). Complete online the Teaching English as a Foreign Language-for Children certification. Complete the pre-work for teaching English as a Foreign Language in China-check. (actual class will be a week in Bejiing). Complete all the stuff needed for a Visa, a little scared this chance will disappear at this step. Complete all the other things they send. (there seems to be no end to this one). Tell my boss I will miss the last week of school and will not be back next year-check. Tell my landlord I'm leaving and ask if I can pay only half for May-half check. (someone else was in the office when I paid rent. She said she would tell, but haven't seen him yet). Tell my bank that when they see charges in China, it really is me and not fraud. (told them but I need to let them know again about a week before I leave). Buy a good camera because chances of a lifetime should be documented. Start a blog-check (this also goes under the documentation category, but also that I'm going to be learning so many new things. If those things stay with me, great. I will be enlightened and living with broadened horizons. But it would be so much greater if I share those things. Knowledge means more if all of society knows). Buy an IPod because I'll be riding the bus a lot and also I've heard China can be loud. Save money because I'm supposed to have a lot to get me through to my first check. (some of these other steps counteract this one. Good thing I got a big tax return). Go back to Dick's Sporting Goods for a few hours a week? (can't conflict with play rehearsal. When are we getting that schedule?) Tell student loan people that if they insist I pay while I'm away, payments will be in Chinese money. Shut off internet and electricity. Stop my gym membership. (Good thing I didn't sign up for a plan with a contract). After, I get my visa, take that, a boatload of money, and other papers to a courier service (not regular mail) or a Chinese Consulate to get my work Visa. Get rid of a whole bunch of stuff. Get my parents to take and store a whole bunch of stuff. Pack only a little. Breathe. Board plane.

 Whew....Am I forgetting anything?
