My attempt at a sort of 'meet the artist'.

Hello poppies! I am IronRye.

A female character creator in the states.

While I'm dipping my toes in the selfship community (and I've meet some FANTASTIC fellow people there) my main go to is ocxcanon. I LOVE designing fancharacters with the high priority of fantasizing about them smooching my favorite characters.

I've been making characters in a physical art form for over 15 years. Many of my ocs are created with great care to make stories about them, whether to further the canon story or create a alternate story with the canon characters, rather then primarily used for wish fulfillment romance (not that there's anything wrong with that of course). As well as include those characters in fics I might post eventually.

I love Disney and Dreamworks movies, Renfield 2023, The Pirates of the Caribbean movies, The Lost Boys, The MCU pre phase 4, and The Mummy 1999. Some of my favorite shows include Gravity Falls, Hellsing, Courage The Cowardly Dog, anything X-Men, and Avatar the Last Airbender. I'm not really into video games, but ones I like are Mario, Crash Bandicoot, Resident Evil, Overwatch, and Sea of Thieves.

I hyper fixate on one fandom thing to the next and back like crazy. I rarely drop a comfort show or movie I've indulged in, rather it sits in the back of my mind before springing back up.

Hey there everyone, and welcome to night four of the ninth annual Wreck-it Ralph Pin Post Month!

Tonight we have the DLR/WDW, Holiday Gifting 2020 Series, Vanellope Von Schweetz, Wreck-it Ralph pin. LR.

This pin was released in Walt Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World for a limited time during the winter holiday season in 2020. As a part of the Holiday Gifting series, it originally came with a unique box and frame like other pins in this series. The box for this pin being a soft pink and teal striped candy shaped box, almost like a tootsie roll or a Christmas cracker. Tied shut on each end with pink ribbon, though thanks to the clear plastic side of the box the pin was perfectly visible. The pin itself features Vanellope marching along side one of the princess quotes used for merchandising the Ralph Breaks the Internet movie released two years prior of this pin. The pin itself is also completely covered in a layer of glazing, offering some added protection to its painted surface.

Confession time! I'm fairly certain that those who are reading this are wondering why I had to describe the box rather then show it. Well I'm embarrassed to admit that while preparing for Pin Post Month last year, my cat confused the box and all its ribbons for a toy. While the damage itself thankfully isn't too severe, it's rather distracting and well embarrassing. My cat has also made it clear that he shows no remorse and would do it again! Moral of this story, don't leave delicate collectables alone with your young pet. That aside, the pin itself does well to capture the spirit of the princess scene in the film. Meanwhile thanks to the added protection applied to this pin, as well as the nature of limited release merchandise. It makes an ideal pin to gift to a younger collector looking to show off their pins proudly on their lanyard. Making this pin something that likely brought many children delight during its time on the shelf.

Being Disney Adults With Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae

The clutch this couple has me in— good lord

Disney was something that ran through your veins

Having lived in, and grown up in Florida, Disney World was a common thing in your life

You met Johnny and Candice when you started working for WWE as a writer's assistant

You three got along like a house on fire and were inseparable ever since

You three made trips to Disney all the time

If you had a day off, you were there

If it was a holiday, you were there

Almost any excuse you three had to go to Disney, you would go

You three were the people who would hang on each other and cuddle while you waited in line for the rides

You and Candice consistently tricked Johnny into wearing matching shirts

You all had lanyards to trade pins

And you and Candice both had extensive collections of Minnie Ears (whether they were from the parks or from small businesses you found on Etsy)

Some days all you guys would do it go to Magic Kingdom, sit on the hub grass and just people watch

Other days you guys would try to cram in as many rides as possible

And then there were days when the three of you would try a lot of snacks

Johnny and Candice sometimes regretted those days because the follow day training would wipe them out

If you went to Magic Kingdom you would always stay for the fireworks, it was a tradition

And you all cried every time because it was so magical

When Johnny and Candice formed The Way you guys brought Indi and Austin with you to Disney

It always amused the three of you to see them basically become big kids with eyes like saucers

You guys had to basically parent Indi and Austin because they wanted to do everything at once

It was an odd little family tradition that even when Austin and eventually Candice and Johnny moved up to the main roster while Indi stayed in NXT you all still managed to go to Disney together at minimum once a month

i like this artists combination of references, and blends them together

this work to me feels like a weird combination of tv shows and movies i have seen, which in turn makes it feel off putting

like the simpsons house, spider-man hanging from a web and bambi having arms dressed in a dress that looks like its from shrek, and even the skeletal brain man in a robe, with tentacles for feet

its like a collage of elements that form like a window into the world of pop culture, or maybe showcasing child-like imagination -> like a deer human, skeleton octopus man, spider-man

it is i guess weird to me or off putting that these characters aren't true to their original depiction however i feel as if this work is alluding to the boundaries of this

i think for this artist i am intrigued by the composition, more specifically the look and feel of the work, i like how the work emits this feeling of collecting or having a collection of objects that hold value?

all these objects put together creates this by acting as souvenirs or a momento, however in this work its almost as if the artist is showcasing the nature of these souvenirs once collected, positioning them in a manner that showcases their individual characteristics whilst also giving information as to the origin of these objects, like from a holiday or theme park etc.

it kind of reminds me of toy story,

i also like that it comes across as a process image, if that makes sense, like how early concept drawings of an animation or something

or like a pin board in someones room that holds key information, personal notes, important photos -> stuff that means the most to the individual

for me when looking at the objects individually my mind automatically tries to draw connections to places that i have been, like disney world, the beach etc. but i also feel like this work is highlighting the significance of these souvenirs/memento and how each object holds different meaning, memories attached to them, like showing the beauty in something that doesn't necessarily allow someone to question the nature of it ( like if someones room had a souvenir from somewhere, you don't necessarily associate it with memories its more so the place) i'm not sure if that makes sense though

INAUGURAL THRIFT HAUL!

hello and welcome to the first installment of my thrifting adventures here on tumblr. I don’t get clothes that much, and when i do they’re almost always 80/90s grandma/elementary school teacher vests and sweaters.

i usually get cards, knick knacks, trinkets, toys/plushies, craft stuff, and media (VHS, cassettes, and books are what i seek out the most, but dvds, cds, etc are cool too)

so welcome to my first post of many. i won’t do just hauls, next will probably be my VHS, DVD, Cassette, or CD collection (i am a heavy advocate for physical media), but this blog is called opossumthrifting, so ya! lets get on with it!

ESTATE SALE (09/26)

pictured above is 3 ceramic skeleton keys (non-functional) [$1 all], a VHS boxset of the original star wars films in great condition [$10], and an x files 1998 calendar that i mistook for a vinyl </3 [$1]

an entirely mechanical novelty pendulum clock from the 1960s! i only got it for $1 because the nice people running the estate sale thought it didn’t work, but it does! below is a video of it :]

GARAGE SALE 1 (09/27)

in a small town 20 minutes away (that i frequent for a really good thriftstore there, its basically the only one i go to regularly), they were having a townwide garage sales! its nearing the end of yardsale/garage sale season, so i decided to pop in and found some goodies!

pictured above is a Craft Bazaar edition (i have a halloween and a ‘mega’ edition, so i guess i have a collection now!) [.25], a cookbook for my best friend, its not all gingerbread but it sure is all baking! [.25], a random cookbook that was in fantastic condition, so i’m gonna try and learn some of them! [.25], and a precious moments “tender tails” turkey! [$1]

the people there were really sweet, there was a man who was putting stuff out/straightening things up and he called me kiddo, and there a woman who was sitting at the cash table(??) and called me hon :}}

GARAGE SALE 2 (09/27)

next stop! this was listed on the towns website for the event, it had vintage hallmark pins listed (which i collect)! they were a tad expensive, and the ladies were so sweet i felt bad haggling :[ so i didn’t, they had a lot but i only got a st. patty’s day mouse [$10] (i don’t have a st pattys pin yet), then i got the rescuers book (with special edition cover for the ‘brand new’ motion picture!) [$1], a set of ribbon [it was tagged as $2 but i think she might’ve put it down to a $1 because of my total), two ET chapter books [$1 each]

…and a little surprise in the reflective cover ET book! this definitely was a kids favorite once upon a time, and i’m honored to have it in my possession now (and the cutie little bookmark!)

disney’s alice in wonderland picturebook from 1975! there are some pencil/graphite scribbles by the one and only Lisa (who’s name is scrawled on the front page), but i don’t mind! [$1]

last but definitely not least, papa turkey to match the baby turkey i got at the other sale! he wishes to protect his baby, so he proclaims “EAT HAM” with his clever little sign! [$3]

I had chatted with the two women running this particular sale for a bit, and apparently they’d been elementary school teachers in the 80s (from what i could gather)! they’d switch out the pins for each holiday, put the papa turkey near the entrance to their classroom, and the books probably belonged to a small classroom library! there was also a carrying case FILLED with 1980s MLPs, including a flocked one in AMAZING condition, but it was $50 for all and she wasn’t willing to split D: i hope they all find a nice home together though :]

GARAGE SALE 3 (09/27)

only got one thing here- this 1984 (or '83, can't remember for sure) Tonka 63 piece jigsaw puzzle featuring Pound Puppies! the lady there was really nice, i asked if she knew if all the pieces were there, she said no but counted them up for me :] they're all there!

QUICK THRIFT-STORE STOP (09/27)

alas, this post comes to a close with the thrift store that was my gateway into the various activities in the town; it's come to the point where some people think i go to the local highschool (whoops), but here we go! my dad (who was driving) had to go to the bathroom, so we stopped by and i rifled through some things for a bit. I'd already been there wednesday (today being friday), but I saw the basket of plushies was much fuller.

a majority of them were knock-off catholic beanie babies (so many that i started saying "holy copyright infringement batman!), but i still found some good stuff!

i collect vintage greeting cards! i have a few artists/series i collect in specific (bunnies by the bay, suzy's zoo, precious moments, and russ cards to name a few), but i didn't rifle through the CARD TOWER (trademark pending) as much as i usually do, but i pulled out a couple cuties! three teddy bear cards, and an embossed flower card by hallmark (of which i forgot what flower it is...)!

above is (from top to bottom and left to right), a beanie boo backpack clip for my best friends sister, a Snowden (and friends) mouse, a little pink bear with no tag and a detatched mini thread spool (which i will soon sew back on), two Aurora roosters (i couldn't separate them D: that would just be cruel), and three state beanie babies (i heart mississipi, lousiana, and alabama bears) for my mother!

Here’s some of the things I ordered from the Disney Movie Club this morning. I got a Mystery Holiday Gift Box, The Emperor’s New Groove 2 Movie Collection, Encanto, Wish, a Wish Lithograph, a Cars 3 pin, a Buzz Lightyear Night Light, a Princess and the Frog Lapel Pin, a Lithograph Book, and Disney’s Holes. I was actually quite surprised to see all the exclusive blu rays that are out of stock. Like dang, they sold out fast. Guess I’ll have to rely on EBay to get the movies I missed out on even if the prices are super high. I spent over $90 just from all this stuff 🙄🤑📀 Oof 😮���💨 Oh well. At least I’m getting some good stuff and a few things were free which was nice 😁
