My music is best described as alternative rock. While early influences like INXS, U2, Billy Idol, Elton John, Billy Joel, and Motown had a lasting effect on me, it was 90's alternative rock had the biggest influence on my music. Particularly Foo Fighters, and Dishwalla with J.R. Richards at the helm. J.R. continues to inspire me with his solo career.
Cold Blue Morning was written about my journey in recovering from a traumatic brain injury I suffered a few years ago as well as a thank you to family, and friends who were there for me along the way.
It's starts with a soft piano sound that is supposed to give you the feel of falling snow on a cold blue winter morning because that was the last thing I remember before the head injury I suffered that morning when I fell on my head onto the cold icy ground, and suffered a traumatic brain injury.
The song then builds up to pound drums, and rocking guitars which pretty much symbolizes the chaos that followed in my road to recovery. There were a lot of missed memories, and struggles during that time of recovery, so while CBM describes those things, it is also a thank you to family and friends who were there for me along the way, and even though I may not remember a lot things we did, I am sure we had fun. I also like the way this song connects with anyone who has suffered a TBI or have someone close to them has gone through it. I recently had someone thank me for writing this song because he has watched his mother recover from a TBI, and he found it very inspiring on how far along I have come.
There is a lot of unseen pain, and daily life can be an absolute struggle. And for me at times, it still is. I want to be an inspiration to people to show them my road to recovery as well as the power of music therapy. Singing and music has helped far more than any of the other therapies I have had to endure.
The music we are creating is...
Our major influence in writing music is taking personal experiences, translating those experiences, and emotions into a song that may relate to someone else's personal experiences, or inspire them. Wanting them to hear my story, and think yes I have been through the same thing. We want to take them on the journey that seems new, yet familiar.
Cold Blue Morning is the second song released off of our debut EP-Cotswold. I am anxious to see how people react because while this song also rocks like Sunshine Smile, it does so in a different way.
My major influences for this song have combination of my love for J.R. Richards style of music which consists of a nice combination of guitars, a prominent bass guitar sound, pounding drum beats, and of course the piano element. I also really enjoy classical music, and one of my favourite artists is Ludovico Einaudi.
Also growing up, I always loved the way Billy Joel, and Elton John incorporated piano into their music.
Right now we are...
With the release of our debut EP-Cotswold starting to gain momentum on indie music stations as well as some mainstream stations, we are enjoying the tremendous fan support we are beginning to experience from worldwide listeners. We've gained some cool followers from the Netherlands to Malaysia as well as Australia, the Philippines, the UK, and North America.
This is a tribute to the amazing indie music stations, and the amazing hosts running them ! We have a video for our song No One Fights Alone in post-production. It was filmed by brilliant British film maker Min Reid-Richards in Oxfordshire England. We are also excited that venues in our home state of Michigan have opened again, and that we have been able to perform several shows at an amazing new live music venue in downtown Detroit called the Tin Roof Detroit.
It was just announced that we will be their feature act for their July 4th celebration, and you can find us there regularly. We also have an awesome venue in downtown Brighton Michigan called The Pound, and we will be performing there twice a month on their beautiful rooftop bar overlooking downtown through the end of September. And finally, we are excited that we are recording an acoustic cover version of Never Tear Us Apart (INXS), which we hope to have released in the next month.
About the Artist...
Detroit born singer/songwriter. I have been entertaining Detroit area audiences for several years fronting various rock bands, as well providing vocals for my acoustic duo Sugartips.
In 2015, I traveled to Santa Barbara/ California to record backing vocals for JR Richard's two solo albums - Honore Et Amore and Stripped.
After working with JR, we discussed JR eventually producing my original music.
In December 2018, I traveled to Oxfordshire England to record my first two songs at JR's studio. Cold Blue Morning and I'm Not Ready To Say Goodbye were released in late January 2019. In October 2019 I traveled back to England to record 3 more songs to complete my first EP - Cotswold along with my acoustic guitarist, and Sugartips acoustic duo partner, Ryan Harrison. The song Sunshine Smile was co-written with Ryan.
Debut EP - Cotswold is produced by award winning singer/songwriter J.R. Richards (original Dishwalla singer/songwriter), and accompanied by guitarist Ryan Harrison.
I credit my parents, and sister for my early influences in my love for music. As a child, we would listen to Motown, Billy Joel and Elton John during early morning car rides to my grandparents’ house in Detroit. As I grew older, I would listen to Billy Idol, Foreigner, U2, INXS as a teen, and then became heavily influenced by bands like Nirvana, Foo Fighters, and Dishwalla. It was at this point that J.R. Richards became my biggest influence. I sang in choir in school from childhood through high school, and would find the biggest connection with the lead vocals in bands I listened to.
Never losing my love for singing, I eventually started fronting local Detroit rock bands, as well doing acoustic duo work on the side. I always had the desire to create original music, and that became a reality once I started working with J.R., and then my acoustic duo partner Ryan.
What inspires me to create music is every day life. Whether it's life experiences or just randomly thinking of something that sounds like it would be a good line or melody in a song, I'm constantly writing stuff down. It is also a great way to help me cope with whatever I may be experiencing in my life at that time. It's my therapy session.
I like to create music that can inspire someone or help them relate to the music with something personal to them.
That is what's always drawn me to the music I love, so I would like to do the same for others.
I want to bring the emotion, and power of my life experiences to my original music worldwide. My goal is to get my music to as many outlets as possible, and provide everyone with music they will love, and share with their friends. Hopefully inspire some people along the way.
My next goal would be to travel, and tour to perform our original music in other states (and countries of course).
