wondering whether the trope of the tragic detective with a dark past whose best days are behind him is like. partly due to the nature of detective fiction as backward looking. thinking abt this bc paradise killer and disco elysium both have nostalgia as such a strong theme. the job of the detective IS to search through the past. Plus detectives often need to actively not confront the future, in modern source material especially there is often a tacit ackowledgement that prison is not actually a meting out of justice but the work will ignore this during the pursuit. a willfully obtuse viewpoint that candy really did taste better when you were a kid <=> a willfully obtuse viewpoint that if you can just put all the pieces together and read the past correctly, "justice" will be done ?

I’ve played a few lesser-known games lately that I feel would appeal to other fans of Paradise Killer and Disco Elysium. They are all vaporwave-esque and have fantastic soundtracks.
The Immaculate Drag is for anyone craving a smoke and conversations about life and the meaning of existence. Very noir-ish. It’s extremely short but can be played several times to see different dialogue options and endings.
Hypnospace Outlaw is for anyone who misses the early days of the internet. Only it’s not quite the internet and there’s definitely some weird stuff going on. Full of nostalgia and absolutely fantastic parodies of all sorts of things.
Broken Reality is deceptively simple, it’s all about popularity and getting likes while exploring. But as there always is, there’s more to it than that. Where it really shines is in the tools you collect and learn to use to solve increasingly complex puzzles. Also some great parodies here.
I also really enjoyed Pentiment, which is a different style entirely. If I’m not mistaken, it’s more well known than any of the other games I’ve mentioned.
If anyone wants to add more similar games, please be my guest!

Would have played Paradise Killer earlier if someone had told me that your Kim Kitsuragi was a blue multi-dicked quad-armed nasty demon fox who insults you then vanishes each time you find him.

Live Report: Foster the People at The Roxy (August 14, 2024)
Live Report: @FosterThePeople at @TheRoxy (8/14/24) The L.A. indie-rockers introduced a packed Roxy to their disco-fied new sound @AtlanticRecords #FosterthePeople #livemusic #concert #newmusic #rock #indierock #disco #pop
Local heroes Foster the People returned to The Roxy last Wednesday night to celebrate the pending release of their new album Paradise State of Mind. The packed house led to a humid, sweaty dance party as the band played a mix of their disco-fied new songs and alt rock catalog classics. It was standing room only on the floor and in the VIP section, where a mix of label people mingled with stars…

Lady Love Dies just wanted some peace and quiet to go over her evidence when who should show up but Harry Du Bois. It’s an inter-dimensional detective rooftop bar chill out/mutual questioning session.
