Rest Day

Author's note: a birthday gift for a friend @twistedintern! By the time of this post, happy (belated) birthday! <3

Vargas doesn’t stop exercising even if he has a rest day! He’d plan a whole day dedicated to honing in the whole body, much to your dismay, and drag you along with him. He’d justify his reasons as being ‘for the benefit of your health’, or somewhere along those lines. 

Time doesn’t wait for no man, as you’d find yourself in the middle of nowhere: just you and Vargas together on this trip with Mother Nature. What a better way to spend a rest day, he’d comment as he takes you by the hand into the woods. You’ve seen firsthand how this can end up per his students’ bemoanings about his camp sessions, and now, you hope that he (or his colleagues) do anything suspicious on this trip. 

You cling to this worry as you tail after Vargas, just trying to catch up with him as he keeps a brisk pace. He urges you to catch up, even encouraging you to enjoy the scenery together. 

Perhaps you weren’t built for this extreme of a workout; you found yourself winded, even sweating, after a grueling day. You were amazed at Vargas' strength - you couldn’t even imagine what his routine would be if he took a week long vacation.

As you savored your resting time, Vargas worked out beside you, his energy boundless. You don’t know how he does it, but judging by the smile dancing on his lips, he seems to have appreciated the time you two spent together on this day off.

While Crewel would appreciate a day off away from school, he’d never thought he’d be forced to do so in the context of a mandated order from Crowley. On a normal day, he’d be grading schoolwork from his students (the one activity that feels like a chore after a while), taking his puppies out on a walk, and spending the rest of his day doing what he enjoyed the most: racing his car. 

Yet, he had to change his plans now that he has you in the picture - of course, his puppies would love you, but as for driving around.. He’ll ask you if you would like a meal with him in the meantime. The night before, Crewel would weigh the options of what to do for a day off with you - he’d think of something to do with you besides a meal, a moment of quality bonding time, and take into consideration your preferences as well. 

At some point, you had received a text from him about what you would like to do on a day off; depending on your response, Crewel wouldn’t mind adjusting his plans to your preferences - besides, he’d like to spend some time with you. 

Once both of you finalized your plans together, it was up to Crewel to see its fruition: he made sure you were content with this day so far. He’d venture if you were comfortable with the plans thus far, and see if a drive was possible. Besides, nothing can beat a rush of adrenaline, right? You simply couldn’t say no to him, tailing him with a spring in your step.

With your permission, the two of you ride out in his beautifully red car, the rushing wind a beautiful feeling as the sun shines brilliantly on the horizon.

Crowley probably took more days compared to the rest of his colleagues, but he claims that these are well-deserved - business trips in his words. You were quite suspicious of his motives when he asked you out for a date on his “off day”.

You’d pry more into details, but the ‘kind’ man doesn’t go into detail, whisking you away into the unknown. Besides, the Headmaster had been dying to spend some time with you on a day off like this.

Such novelty warranted an adventure, activities for the both of you, and even a romantic dinner, ah, just the perfect idea that Crowley had thought of. Alas, with your suspicions, he had to make sure everything didn't go wrong and also appease you. Yes, you have had your reservations with the man himself having yet another day off, but Crowley insists that this day off was truly a day off, his work does have him off on certain days, you know! 

If you accuse him of folly, consider him heartbroken! He wallows in his misery upon your complete and utter underestimation of the man. Upon this revelation, he’d spend the rest of the school day in tears, whining to his colleagues that you out of all people would refuse such an offer to hang out with him! Is he that old? Was he really a hopeless worker who did relatively nothing to the school? Oh the pain! 

Yet, the Headmaster would be incredibly nervous before the big day; summoning his colleagues about any ideas on what to do; surely, the Headmaster has some ideas himself, but he wants to try something new beyond the common activity. Yet, he’ll settle for a picnic, amping up his charm to take you along for a romantic getaway with just you and him together.

Trein didn’t mind a day off. Rather, he’d love to have a day to catch up on some reading. Usually, his day off would be simplistic: spending time with his daughters and favorite feline. 

Why, he'd also use that time to enjoy the little things in life; a quiet moment with a warm cup of tea and a good book at hand, an ideal activity. 

With that in mind, as his guest, you hoped not to intrude on Trein's much needed break; he had spent a week chaperoning a whole class for a school trip, one that easily drained his energy. You find yourself scarce by sitting across from him, ensuring Trein that you weren't going anywhere. 

With a gentle smile on his lips, the man encourages you to do whatever, as long as you enjoy yourself. You nod, shyly accepting his offer, in which you invite yourself to his library with a good book. Occasionally, Lucius would sit on your lap, purring as if enjoying your presence.  

Trein figured some time to relax was needed on your part as well; he noticed your expression relax as time passed. He'd make a note to have you often visit when you have the chance. With that thought in mind, he invites you to a meal, where the both of you cook a pleasant dinner together.

Rarely did the Shadow man himself have a day off - he had been busy running the shop on campus; sure, he could’ve left his shadow to help with the work, but the silhouette often relied on his physical presence. Sam enjoyed his time running the shop and the students that went into the humble abode. 

The rare times he’d have some downtime would be during school hours, and before classes began for the day; in the case of a day off, he’d have to ask Crowley. Days off are a rarity for him; however, he’d figure something out if he wanted a day off for himself. 

Ideas from tracking stock in the store, replenishing said inventory, and reorganizing the shelves for aesthetics. He’d make a list of things to do on his off day, making sure he was being productive and at least spare some time for himself to enjoy himself. Perhaps, he’d have his shadow play some music while he worked.. Many ideas swirl about his mind as he fathoms some ideas. 

You suggest helping him, reaching out as a colleague if he would like a hand on whatever he needs to get done and helping run the shop while he goes on his day off. He gladly takes the offer, his silhouette spinning circles around him on the extra hand.

Although busy, the two of you were productive on his day off as his shadow played music on the piano in the shop. The two of you worked together to create something unique for the shop and remake it to retain its unique charm while keeping the basics for shoppers to look around for any necessities. After a long day of work, Sam wouldn’t mind turning the shop into a ballroom for the two of you, music guiding your footsteps into a dance for just the two of you.

tu.lin has definitely tried using the whole sage business to self-aggrandise himself above things he doesn't want to do before ( not because he genuinely doesn't want to do them or anything. it just doesn't seem like a good use of his time as the sage of wind, y'know? he takes this job veeery seriously and is more responsible now, even if he only pulls this shit on the chores he is notoriously infamous for avoiding in the past — which is just a coincidence btw! he's grown past that, he swears!! ), but sa.ki and te.ba shut that down pretty quickly

like "oh, the sage of wind has no time to be a flockling who cleans out our aerie even though it was his agreed turn of the cycle? well, clearly he has no time to be a nestling who receives hugs from us either" and it gets tu.lin every time dlkfjkd

on serious reflection, though — beyond these instances and him running his beak off about his adventure with li.nk to his friends and the other villagers immediately after resolving the whole thing with colgera, once the novelty wears off, i don't think he actually sincerely says much about being a sage unprompted. it's not humility per se, he just doesn't see a point in addressing it if nobody asks ( and is more than happy to answer, otherwise ). in an ironic twist of events, he's got better things to do with his time than puff himself up over sagehood slfkjdf

it's due to a quiet sort of confidence, yeah, but also just...a nebulous understanding of his purpose as a sage. while he recognises his responsibilities as a flockmember and the eldest child of the elder ( which holds weight in terms of any impressions he makes of his family rather than any real emphasis on bloodlines ), he's still figuring out what being the sage of wind could mean for his people outside of being there for li.nk when he needs it/the whole of hyrule when it needs him — the full severity of which still kind of eludes him, honestly.
